Misfits S5E1 - "Episode One" Recap

Alex is recovering following his lung transplant. The gang meets a group of scouts using the community centre. Rudy visits Alex and babbles that Jess is still angry at him for cheating on her. Finn strikes up a flirtation with a cute girl in the scouts. They prepare to have sex and she asks to tie him up. He agrees, believing it to be a prelude to kinky fun. She then calls the other scouts in and finds himself lying in the middle of a pentagram. She lights candles and he is told he is to become an agent of Satan. The scout leader's eyes turn red, he recites a chant, and sacrifices a chicken, splattering the blood across a nearly-nude Finn. Finn uses his powers to shove the knife into the scout leader's face and run away.


The gang is at a pub discussing Alex when Finn runs in still tied up, wearing only his pants, and covered in chicken blood. He fills them in and the following day, they look on suspiciously as the scouts sit in a circle and sing a song. Alex is visited by a woman who had accosted him at the hospital. She tells him the lung he has received came from a person who had the ability to remove powers. His front door slams on her hand and she uses this as a seg-way to explain that she has the power of being accident-prone. With this new power, he can remove her power through sexual intercourse. He doesn't believe her, believing Jess is testing him. She then begins taking off pieces of clothing to reveal several burns, scars, and marks as a result of all her accidents. Jess then shows up to vent her frustrations over his cheating but then he had to go and get stabbed to save her life. She then sees the partially dressed girl behind him and storms off after declaring their relationship over.

Finn is approached in the loo by the scouts leader who now has a bandage on his face. Finn tries to use his power to hit him with a fire extinguisher but hits him with a bar of soap instead. The leader trips on it and hits his head. He recites a chant and the possession switches to Finn right before he died. Rudy and Abbey come in and give him an ice cream before heading out to get supplies to help get rid of the body. Finn's possession is then officially revealed by his eyes momentarily turning red.

Rudy Two tries to get Rudy to attend a super-power support group with him but Rudy refuses, preferring to wear his old scouts uniform and attempt to tie knots. While out at a pub, Rudy and Jess note that Finn has now become tremendously confident. Alex comes in to try to explain what happened with the girl but Jess doesn't want to listen. Finn then comes over and gets into an argument with Alex, even going so far as to smash a bottle and hold it to his neck. Alex storms off and Finn tells Jess that Alex will always shit on her.

Alex is approached by the accident prone girl again but she is hit by a car. Rudy Two attends the super-power support group and opens up about his existence being a result of the storm. Alex sits next to the accident prone girl's bed. She wakes up and he tells her he doesn't even know if he has the power and doesn't want to her. She tells him there's only one way to find out and that she's so stuffed full of pain killers that she won't feel a thing. He shuts the curtains and awkwardly has sex with her. She asks about Jess and he says he messed up by cheating on her. He says he still likes her but doesn't want to talk about it. He becomes uncomfortable and wants to stop but she pleads for him to continue. He comes and there is a flash of white light. She smiles and thanks him.

Finn performs the same ritual he was first put into and possesses Rudy. Following this, he possesses Abbey, who catches Jess right as she figures out that Finn is possessed by a devil. Jess runs away from the possessed trio and heads to Alex's place. She tells him all about what has happened and then they are visited by Rudy Two, who knows about Rudy being an agent of Satan. Rudy Two says that the book on satanic rituals says they have to douse a possessed person with holy water and recite a chant in order to remove the possession.

The non-possessed group head to the club where the possessed group are partying. Jess asks to speak to Finn alone and she then douses him with holy water. She holds the other two off at gunpoint and reads the chant. It doesn't work and when Jess tires to shoot Finn, the gun doesn't work. Rudy Two apologises to Alex and shows him the bullets, saying he is one of them. They fight and Alex gets the upper hand. Alex is now on his own and the only one not possessed.

Alex breaks into the community centre and knocks Finn out. He ties Jess to a chair and put tape on her mouth. He tells Jess he is doing this for her and apologises for cheating on her. She watches awkwardly as Alex has anal sex with Finn, thus freeing him and the others from possession. Finn wakes right as their community service leader comes in and sees them still in the position. He apologises and uncomfortably walks out. Finn is horrified but Alex insists he was only shagging the devil out of him and was doing it for Jess.

The leader of the super-power support group presents Rudy with a sweater, saying that she knits the future. Based off of what's on it, he begins to wonder if he and/or others are going to become proper superheroes. Alex has now been sentenced to community service with the rest of the gang for breaking into the community service. The gang continues to tease Finn and Alex for their de-possessing anal sex despite their pleas for them to forget about it and move on.
