Magic Mike's first tease

Magic Mike has been one big tease since it first began announcing it's casting, but this is the first official tease from Steven Soderbergh's upcoming stripper film also highlights co-stars Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Joe Manganiello.

Director Steven Soderbergh explores the world of male strippers with Magic Mike, and ahead of the film's June 2012 release, Warner Bros. has unleashed the first still from the dramedy.

Magic Mike stars Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello and Matthew McConaughey are all accounted for in the photo, with the latter apparently dressed as a shirtless Uncle Sam. The rest of the actors, all of whom play strippers in the movie, are only showing off their arms for now, but each of the sexy hunks has their own signature dance. Whether or not the dances are actually shown on screen come June remains to be seen.

Magic Mike is inspired by Tatum's experiences working as a stripper before his acting career took off. But instead of the lead, Tatum plays the mentor to Pettyfer's character, a performer in the troupe.

McConaughey plays Dallas, a former stripper who owns the club where the two perform -- though from the looks of the photo, he doesn't take his retirement very seriously.

Magic Mike arrives in U.S. theaters on June 29, 2012. It also stars Matt Bomer, Olivia Munn, Riley Keough and Cody Horn.

Kate Beckinsale is back as Selene in Underworld Awakening. The fourth in the Underworld franchise - and the first shot in 3D - Selene leads a battle against humans when they discover the existance of vampires and lycans. It's a good thing they are showing this in IMAX, as the action is bigger, and the lycans are bigger. A lot bigger, as in crazy big.

Underworld Awakening comes to theaters January 20th.

Publication Date: January 04, 2012
Format: FC, 32 pages
Price: $3.50

A shady corrupt Factory owner, Blank, makes a fatal error and it costs many of the women inside his building their lives. But not only does he get off on all charges, he became a hero. He didn’t start the fire true technically that was done by an out of control taco truck, but because of all his cuts, because he locked the women inside so he could diddle one of the girls, many lost their lives.

But the survivors and their families, they were not satisfied with any of it. And so they picketed, which only angered  Blank, who sent union busters and police to beat the picketers into submission. When the people need help, but police are all corrupt, they turn to the Goon. He runs the construction worker union, surely he can help the garment workers union.

Franky has his reserves, but few injustices get past the Goon. He may be a thug, but he’s all about the little people, it’s a huge part of his charm.

With the Goon against him, and his police and union busters neutralized, Blank turns to some dark forces to make his profit. But obviously he doesn’t know the Goon, he doesn’t back down from a challenge, and neither will the women.

Powell delivers a power story and even more powerful message. Fans of the Goon will love the action, the story, and the art, which is all classic Goon, and the twist will throw a few for a loop.

The Adventures of TinTin Review

The Adventures of Tintin are based on the classic comic of the same name by Belgian artist George Remi, who wrote under the name Hergé. The series is widely popular in Europe, the little boy sitting next to me in the screening explained before the movie starts. Paramount and Sony Pictures are hoping that interest will jump across the pond and delight those in the US, unfamiliar with the franchise as well. In fact, if it's a success there are 2 sequels planned.

The movie follows Tintin, a young journalist, and his dog Snowy on an adventure over land, sea and air. Tintin's life is soon turned upside down after purchasing a model of a three-masted sailing ship, the unicorn. Very soon he discovers there is so much more than meets the eye, as people vie for the shipping, going as far as to kill for it. It's up to TinTin to uncover it's mysteries before it's too late.

Steven Speilberg directs the motion-capture film, which isn't as creepy as prvious motion-capture films. Yes, I'm talking about you Polar Express. And it makes fantastic use of the technology. I usually love a live action movie over the motion-capture, but in this case I'm not sure a live-action could have accomplished half of the stunts with a budget any studio could provide it. I'm thinking the crane battle alone would have been a catastophy in a live action movie. And lets face it, few dogs could really do all that Snowy did without endangering him.

It's fun and fast paced, very Indiana Jones, well the first 3, can't say about the last one never saw it. But it may be a little too fast paced at times. With the 3-D, it was too much. I was dizzy with all the action, which for me was a definite negative.

The film covers three of the comics The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham's Treasure. The script is inventive, the characters enjoyable and it'll charm grown ups, children and everyone in between.

The Adventures of Tintin opens in theaters December 21st, 2011

Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity's lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus' godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans' strength grows stronger as Zeus' remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon's demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Criminal Macabre: Omnibus V2

As a reminder: ALL REVIEWS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
Publication Date: December 21, 2011
Format: FC, 368 pages, TP, 6" x 9"
Price: $24.99
Age range: 16
ISBN-13: 978-1-59582-747-0

Cal McDonald, the pill-popping, alcoholic antihero of the hit Criminal Macabre series, is back! Teamed with his undead partner Mo'Lock, Cal protects the sin-infested streets of Los Angeles against a growing horde of zombies, vampires, and occultists!

This trade collects Criminal Macabre Volumes 4-6, the one-shot story “Feat of Clay”, "The Creepy Tree" and "The Trouble with Brains" from MySpace Dark Horse Presents, and "Hairball" from Dark Horse Presents #102-#105, featured in color for the first time!

The book opens with “Hairball,” and it classic Cal McDonald, big chip on his shoulder, doing right with the odds against him, and taking no prisoners. After dealing with a Giant headed problem Cal gets a huge influx of odd cases, but when a client brings in a baby hand, it peaks his interest and he investigate. But what he finds may be more than he can handle. What’s a little more body damage, this is Cal freakin’ McDonald we’re talking about. But I do love his first person narrative, and his hit/damage counts.

Unlike Niles’ other series 30 Days of Night, Criminal Macabre isn’t all blood sucking vampires. No, that would be too easy for our prickly hero. In this omnibus alone he battles werewolves, clay golems exacting revenge, pissed off councilmen, rat toothed old world Nosferatu, brains, killer trees, con artists and cops. He has a few allies besides Mo’Lock. There’s an ex-girlfriend, a possessed car, lots of ghouls and a demon baby that offer assistance.

Two Red Eyes is among my all time favorites. Cal gets a beating. Cal sobers up. Cal is pissed off. Cal Kicks some major butt. Cal realizes he just got a hollow victory. Though that synopsis can describe most of the stories, it doesn’t make this one any less amazing. A close second is My Demon Baby, where I have to agree with Mo’Lock, Cal’s baby talk is utterly disturbing.

The love/hate relationship between Cal and Mo’Lock is fantastic. Cal fights the inevitable, as Mo’Lock bides his time, and deals with Cal’s childlike behavior. They have an odd chemistry, a mixture of support and enabling, that works wonderfully. Throughout the book, Cal is in various states of disrepair, and when no one else is there for him Mo’Lock picking up the pieces.

One of the fantastic things about the Criminal Macabre series is that if you’re not a long time reader you can still jump in and have the ride of your life. This series is not only seriously fast paced, it is absolutely exhilarating the way Niles weaves his tales of pure perfection. Each of the stories has a different artist, but each manages to capture the darkness, the grittiness, and the dark humor of the series. This Is one of my favorite series, and lovers of horror, hell, for lovers of good writing, this is one you should be reading.

Brody's Ghost- The Midnight Train and Other Tales

As a reminder: ALL REVIEWS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
Publication Date: December 28, 2011
Format: FC 32 pages
Price: $3.99
UPC: 7 61568 18938 4 00111

This one shot is actually a collection of four shorts that were featured on the Myspace Dark Horse. It doesn’t serve at all as an introduction to Brody’s strange world of ghosts, and only has the slightest mentioning of the “Penny Murderer” which is much of the focus in the regular series.

The Midnight Train: Brody’s Ghosts are trying to give him lessons, and although he’s learning them, even when he does good, he doesn’t do good enough.

The Scene of the Crime: Brody tries to enhance his vision skills by revisiting a crime scene, but he’s mistaken for the killer instead.

The Test: Long deprived of all of his senses, Brody can no longer take it, and he demands his freedom. One of his ghost shows him the worth of the exercises with his test and a valuable lesson is learned.

The Big Game: Brody tries to have a normal day, but one of his ghosts forces him to do otherwise.

Brody’s humor flutters just under the surface here, and really this one-shot is for those already familiar with the series. If you're unfamiliar with the series check out Brody's Ghost Book 1 from Thirteen-time Eisner nominee Mark Crilley, and you definitely won't regret it.

Angel and Faith #5

As a reminder: ALL REVIEWS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

Publication Date: December 28, 2011
Format: FC 32 pages
Price: $2.99
UPC: 7 61568 18152 4 00511

Harmony. Harmony. Harmony! This issue is all about the buxom blonde vampire and she wouldn’t have it any other way. She’s now a super celebrity in the vampire world and a sex tape on the verge of being released could bring down her empire, so she enlists Angel and Faith’s help.

It takes readers back to Angel’s private eye days, and away from the events of the last comic. I’m hoping in the mean time tensions are building, and it’ll make for a much higher octane next issue.

Angel may be looking for salvation, but not mindless oblivion on Harmony’s level. And honestly, he’s more fun when he’s brooding anyways. So far the pacing of the series has been much steadier and more consistent than Buffy Season 8 was, which makes for a much more enjoyable read.

For a preview check out Dark Horse.

And this mastery shall have but one purpose…” Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the White House. While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. FRANCESCO FRANCAVILLA UNLEASHES
THE BLACK BEETLE!
COMING TO DARK HORSE PRESENTS #11!

December 15, MILWAUKIE, OR– Adding an exciting new layer to Dark Horse Presents, Dark Horse Comics is proud to announce a new three-part story by New York Times best-selling artist for Batman, and currentCaptain America artist, Francesco Francavilla: The Black Beetle!

The Black Beetle is centered on a pulp-noir character and takes place in a fictional universe that’s based in Colt City. Francavilla published several stories online and even put out an ashcan. When the ashcan sold out, Francesco quickly realized that many fans were interested in exploring this world with him. It was only a matter of time before Dark Horse approached him about bringing some Black Beetle tales to Dark Horse Presents!

“I’m working on a 24-page story, titled Night Shift’ that will be spread over three issues of Dark Horse Presents. I am hugely influenced by pulp stories of the ‘30s and ‘40s, and wanted to develop a series that used that influence as a jumping-off point to explore some modern storytelling with fun twists. I think this will be a great introduction to readers who are new to this character and universe, but will also be an exciting new adventure for those who’ve been reading the online stories over the years,” Francesco states.

“As a huge fan of pulp and noir, working on my own characters and stories really gives me free reign to explore this world and create lots of fun scenarios and thrilling situations. The stories are definitely full of mystery and intrigue, plus I get to give The Black Beetlelots of cool and funky gadgets. ‘Night Shift’ promises to be full of action, excitement, danger, and double-crosses, so I am overjoyed to see this new tale in print, and hope this is the first of many more to come in Dark Horse Presents.”

The Art of Alice: Madness Returns

As a reminder: ALL REVIEWS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
Publication Date: April 27, 2011
Format: FC, HC, 184 pages, HC, 9" x 12"
Price: $34.99
ISBN-13: 978-1-59582-697-8

Do you like your Alice in Wonderland delightfully bloody? This one may be for you. The art from EA’s Alice is dark and twisted.

The idea behind the art wasn’t to twist the ideas of the classic Carroll story and make it something it was not, but instead to embrace it, and see the evolution of what it could become, because lets face it, Wonderland has never exactly been a sweet and cuddly place.

The pages of the book hold the explorations, concepts, sketches, and final renders that chronicle the development of Alice’s next chapter. The story, and process behind the game give a great inside look to the final product.

The artwork is absolutely masterful, it is seriously crazy. And whether or not you’re a fan of the game, it’s great material for those who love Alice in all her incarnations.

Check out a preview at Dark Horse.

Men In Black 3 Trailer Is Here

Columbia Pictures has released the first trailer for Men In Black 3. It's a little more of the same old gags like the use of the neuraliser; there's also Will Smith jumping off a very tall building and Josh Brolin doing a really, really good Tommy Lee Jones impression.

The plot sees Smith's Agent J travel back in time to prevent the assassination of his partner Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) in 1969 - which he must do with K's younger counterpart (Josh Brolin). Also appearing are Emma Thompson as another agent In Black, Jermaine Clement, Alice Eve and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Photographer Holly is prepared to travel the globe to adopt a child, but her husband Alex isn’t so sure, and tries to quiet his panic by attending a “dudes” support group, where new fathers get to tell it like it really is. The Legend Ends- New Dark Knight Rises Poster

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is the final film for director Christopher Nolan and actor Christian Bale. Focusing naturally on Tom Hardy’s Bane, the big villain of Chris Nolan’s next – and, as driven home by the tagline here, final – Batman film. The poster is dark and gritty, and I am beyond excited to see Hardy in action as the back breaking Bane. If the poster is any indication Bale's Batman is in for a bad time. Trailer to follow soon I'm sure.

It's Official: Chris Meloni Joins True Blood as a Series Regular

The buzz around the internet has been that True Blood has been in contact with Law and Order: SVU's Chris Meloni. And today it was announced that Meloni will indeed join the cast as a season regular for season 5!

Alan Ball says Meloni will be "An ancient, powerful vampire who holds the fate of Bill and Eric in his hands.” Can't wait to see what that means exactly.

True Blood doesn’t have an official premiere date for Season 5, but at this point we can probably expect the series to return June 2012.

Chad Michael Murray Everlast Signing in San Francisco

The adorable Chad Michael Murray made his way to Northern California to sign his first book, the graphic novel Everlast, which I will be reviewing later this week, so make sure you check back later for that.

He arrived early, and before the signing, happily snapped pictures of the line of fans that had come up to see him. Some of those pictures you can find on the Everlast Blog.

The signing took place at Comix Experience on Divisadero Street. If you've ever been in there, you know its small and intimate, really the perfect place for a guy like Chad, who is really kinda shy.

But it really gave him a chance to actually talk to fans, unlike other signings, where everything is rushed.

Though most of the his fans know him best from One Tree Hill, there were a few little girls who adored him from A Cinderella Story. And Chad was more than happy to interact with all of his fans no matter what brought them in. I brought one of his smallest fans with me, and not only did he take extra time to interact with her, but he picked her up for a couple of pictures as well, making for a very memorable experience for her. Thanks for being so fantastic, Chad!

ATTN: Dark Horse Present's John Arcudi's The Creep!

DARK HORSE PRESENTS:
JOHN ARCUDI’S THE CREEP!
December 12, MILWAUKIE, OR – With another incredible addition to the increasingly impressive lineup, Dark Horse Comics will publish John Arcudi’s three-part suicide mystery, The Creep, beginning in Dark Horse Presents #11!
In the summer of 1987, a young teenage boy commits suicide. The boy’s mother is unsatisfied with the police’s lack of interest in the motivation behind it, or what connection it might have to the suicide of the boy’s former best friend. She remembers that she heard an old college boyfriend of hers, Oxel, is a private detective. What she doesn’t know is Oxel suffers from a debilitating condition called acromegaly. Will the contact from his old flame be all that Oxel needs to take the case?
“Murder mysteries are common in suspense fiction, but you don’t hear much about suicide mysteries. Oxel starts to wonder if maybe he was hired to help this woman solve the riddle of her life more than that of her son’s death. But then, in the end, it turns out that this really is a suicide mystery, after all. And add to all that the additional layer of this ex-girlfriend knowing nothing about Oxel’s disfiguring illness, since she hasn't seen him in 20 years,” Arcudi says. “And after seeing Jonathan’s Dear Creature,it struck me that he was perfect for The Creep and we were lucky to get him.”
“I’m very pleased to be working with Dark Horse again and a comics vet like John. We’re just getting into the swing of things, but I already have a lot of interesting material to draw. Since I’ll be coloring The Creep, it’s also a good chance to stretch myself artistically (most of my comics have been straight black and white). The fact that I get to do that in service of a good writer is icing on the cake.” – Jonathan Case
Dark Horse Presents #11is on sale April 18th, 2012!

ATTN: Dark Horse Collects Brian Wood's Channel Zero!

DARK HORSE COLLECTS CHANNEL ZERO!
THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION OF BRIAN WOOD’S FIRST SERIES!
December 12, MILWAUKIE, OR – Out of print and unavailable to readers for more than three years, Dark Horse Comics is giving new life to a critically acclaimed classic with the complete collection of Brian Wood’s Channel Zero!
DMZ and The Massive creator Brian Wood launched an all-out assault on the comics medium in 1997 with Channel Zero, an influential, forward-thinking series that combined art, politics, and graphic design in a unique way. Hitting on themes of freedom of expression, hacking, cutting-edge media manipulation, and police surveillance, it remains as relevant today as it did back then.
The Channel Zero collection contains the original series; the prequel graphic novel, Jennie One (illustrated by Becky Cloonan); the best of the two Public Domain design books; and almost fifteen years of extras, rarities, short stories, and unused art. Also featuring the now-classic Warren Ellis introduction and an all-new cover by Wood, this is the must-have edition. A blistering take on media control in a repressive future America!
"Channel Zero is literally the start of my comics career, the first proper comic I ever made, and as such as informed everything that's come after it, especially DMZ and the upcoming THE MASSIVE.” Tells Brian Wood. “It also put me and Becky Cloonan together, helping build a creative partnership that has lasted a decade. This edition here is the definitive one, including everything worth printing, including a color section that includes the original covers to the single issues."
Praise for Brian Wood & Channel Zero:
“Wood’s message is clear enough: apathy is the real enemy, and it is harder to fight than any totalitarian government.”—Wired
“It’s about anger as a positive force of creation…Someone’s remembered what comics are for. Meet Brian Wood.”—Warren Ellis, award-winning writer of Planetary
"Dramatic Black and White visuals...Controlled sense of rhythm." I.D. magazine
“Your handbook for the media revolution.”—Eyeballmagazine
"Strangely prescient... lucid and sharp”- Matt Fraction
"A seemingly endless barrage of powerful art"- Newtype USA
"Fascinating... this is a paranoid future Grant Morrison could not conceive of" - Comics International
The Channel Zero Collection is on sale May 30th, 2012!

Orchid #3

As a reminder: ALL REVIEWS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

Publication Date: December 14, 2011
Format: FC, 32 pages
Price: $3.50
UPC: 7 61568 16912 6 00311

The heartbreak and sorrow of Orchid’s world has never been so palpable as it is when General China’s story is finally revealed. And as shocking and tragic as it is, it isn’t his alone. Orchid, Yehzu and Simon’s rescuer is much more than she first appears to be, but she may not be the savior they need.

Anzio’s execution still lies on the horizon, and they still don’t have a plan to save him. The world is a dire place, especially when it’s full of bears with scorpion stingers.

I adore this storyline, each new element makes the story more vivid. The action took a bit of a backseat this time, so that the story telling could shine. Morello’s imaginative take on the future, has a Mad Max and Lost World feel. This should be in your must read pile.

As always to check out a preview head over to Dark horse.

And each issue features new music by Tom Morello at www.NightWatchmanmusic.com
