True Blood Graphic Novel "All Together Now" Book Signing

For people who don't know me, I am huge True Blood fan! I got to meet the cast at last year's SDCC but I just can't seem to get enough of these love to hate vamps, shapeshifters and werewolves. The cast members that were to show up for the meet and greet book signing on February 26, 2011 at the Grove, in Los Angeles Barnes & Noble Bookstore were Sam Trammell who's character is Sam Merlotte: shape-shifter & bar owner, Deborah Ann Woll as Jessica Hamby: newborn vampire, Rutina Wesley as Tara Thornton: human & best friend to Sookie Stackhouse, and Nelsan Ellis as Lafayette Reynolds: gay cousin to Tara, & cook for Merlotte's Bar & Grill. Unfortunately Nelsan did not make it for this event which made many Trubies very upset, me included since I got up at 3:30 am, went to go pick up a friend at 5:30am, drove an hour and a half, arrived to the bookstore by 7am...waited for the store to open at 10am to receive the wristbands and purchase the graphic novels, then waited in yet another line to have them signed. What an ordeal you say? Shoot, anything for True Blood, that's how much I love them as well as 8 million other Trubies who watch them religiously every Sunday night.

I was happy to hear from the HBO people that we were allowed to photograph them as they were arriving and also while they were at the table signing, but we were not allowed to take photos with them. Darnit! I couldn't get any photos with the cast at Comic Con so this was very disappointing, but oh well I had to deal with it. We were allowed to get a maximum of six books signed by each of them so I took advantage and got one each for my cousin, two brothers and two for my good friend supafly hehe! I think everybody who arrived, which only the first two-hundred early birds were able to participate in the meet and greet autograph session bought six books each. Rutina, Sam & Deborah were all so very gracious and signed without rushing. They took their time and spoke to each and everyone of us answering questions we may have had about the novel and especially about the upcoming season 4.

After my meet and greet, HBO handed grab bags which was an actual True Blood gift bag with the Tru:Blood beverage inside! WOW, I have never tasted this soda pop before so it was pretty exciting i must say. It had an orangey-citrus flavor to it, not too sweet but tasty. After I drank it I of course washed it well and saved the bottle, it makes for a very nice conversation piece, haha. Ok now for some even more good stuff that happened. I for some reason was picked out of the couple hundred people there to be interviewed by HBO! What did they ask you might say? Well let me see if I can refresh my memory. They asked me if I actually read comics, I said yes. I love comic books especially Green Lantern, Thor, Iron Man, X-Men, Captain America etc. They asked me what it is about True Blood that I liked. I said that I absolutely love the whole supernatural genre of vampire, werewolves, fairies and shape-shifters. They asked me how early I got up to come there today for the event and told them 3:30, They asked me who my favorite characters were on the show and I of course said Eric & Alcide! Well I also added Sookie and Bill because they are the main characters of the televison show, so I had to mention them as well. But for all intense purposes I love Eric and Alcide because they make my heart palpatate. During this whole interview my friend took photos of me during and after because who really gets to be on HBO? Yes they did have me sign a waiver stating they could use any portion of my interview for promotion purposes.

When I told all my friends and family what had just happened, they were all so very happy and excited for me because they know how star-struck i get around celebrities, and not only that get to actually speak on all Trubies behalf about True Blood. Yes I will be getting my 2 minutes of fame on HBO if that!

In Review: Pale Demon by Kim Harrison

Format: Hardcover
ISBN: 978-0061138065

A Witch, a pixy, an elf and a vamp on a cross country road trip. No it's not a dirty joke waiting to happen it's a really great piece of story telling that was next to impossible to put down.

Rachel needs to get to the West Coast for the much talked about Witches Conference in San Francisco in hopes of getting her shunning revoked.

Trent is on an Elf quest also in the West Coast, and Rachel can't resist an underdog. As much as she says that she doesn't like or trust Trent, she's constantly working for him and coming to his aid, even if she has to think of ways to justify it. These two are complete kismet, romantically or otherwise.

We finally get to see the otherside of Trent's business persona, and even a hint of what could be. Because lets face it, Trent is badboy hotness dripping with unknown power, and Rachel loves that more than Jenks loves calling Tink a Disney Whore.

And speaking of othersides, we see a different side to the ever after and more surprisingly to Al. Al may not be a strong contender for Rachel's love interest, but they are a pair to watch... Not that Rachel doesn't have enough troubles. Learnign more about demons, she learns more about herself.

The tying up of Pierce and how Rachel feels about him, is more than satisfying. Personally, lately I'd rather see him get smacked around than anything else, because all his good intentions, well, they pave the road to hell and really really suck.

Ivy and Jenks, I understand that Rachel doesn't really need them, she could survive without them, but I can't see a Rachel without a Jenks. And too much felt like goodbye. Rachel and company have grown so much since Dead Witch Walking and there are truths that can no longer be denied once brought into the light, but that doesn't mean everything should be abandoned for something new. I'm hoping for an expanding family, not a disppearing one.

I loved this ninth installment of the Hollows series, one of the best of the series. Many of the subplots have been resolved, which I appreciate, and new possibilities abundant. Overall, a fun little jaunt into the Hollows that leaves the world full of possiblities and choices.

I Am Number Four Pre-Screening Sponsored by Hot Topic

When I heard about this event I was pretty excited because not only would I get a a chance to attend a pre-screening of this action packed science fiction movie with some pretty hot actors, but I would also get the chance to meet them in person and get their autographs! Wow what a deal right? Well on February 12, 2011 I would actually meet Alex Pettyfer an English actor known for his work as Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker (2006), Tormented (2009), and Beastly (2011), Dianna Agron, who also stars on the hit television series "Glee" on Fox, which by the way is one of my favorite shows, and Teresa Palmer known for her works in "2:37" (2006), "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" (2010), and "Take Me Home Tonight" (2011).

First they would be making an appearance at the Hollywood & Highland Hot Topic located at 6801 Hollywood Blvd, CA. 90028 at 2pm. Hot Topic +1 members could purchase any I Am Number Four T-shirt at this location and receive a wristband that guarantees the opportunity to meet these three beautiful stars and also have access to the special screening immediately after the signing event. Only one catch though, there would be no photos taken with or of Alex, Dianna & Teresa during the meet and greet session. We did come away with a nice sized poster with their autographs, which by the way is among the other signed posters I have on my wall of fame from last years Comic-Con 2010. Dianna was nice enough to actually sign the "Glee" poster I acquired that year so I am definitely glad I had brought it along since she was not among the cast members to not show up. The publicist for "I Am Number Four" wasn't too happy about it but Dianna didn't seem to mind. She was actually the only one who extended her hand out as she greeted me, Teresa and Alex not so much of a greeter. In fact Alex didn't even say a word, just smiled and nodded as I said "I can't wait to see you in 'Beastly' next month as well." All in all it was fun meeting and talking to them in person.

Now for the pre-screening of the movie. It would be my very first time watching a movie at the Grauman Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, because as you know this is where all the red carpet premiers take place. As an avid movie goer, I was so ecstatic! So after waiting a few hours in line, in walks Alex & Dianna with a couple of Hot Topic backpacks! Alex wore a Star Wars Storm Trooper backpack & Dianna wore an oh so cute Yoda backpack. Now how awesome is that! I couldn't tell if Teresa had one too, but nonetheless I am such a huge Star Wars fan myself that when i saw them wearing them i screamed a little inside. I only wish that i could have taken my own pictures and recorded the whole thing for everyone to see. I did mange to get a few photos from Hot Topic though as you can see. Dianna, Alex and Teresa said a few words about the movie and Teresa stressed how sweet the soundtrack to the movie was and to be sure to get it. Nice plug for the artists i must say.

The movie was as good as I thought it would be, the storyline riveting, the acting genuine, the love story very believable, well there have been rumors that Alex & Dianna had been dating, and the special effects pretty damn awesome. There was also a hint of a sequel towards the end.
So yes I would definitely recommend watching this movie and of course anything these fabulous three are working on in the future.

In Review: Circus of the Damned- The Charmer by Laurell K. Hamilton

Published 1/19/11 120 pages
Publisher: Marvel
Format: Hardcover
ISBN: 978-0785146889

Anita Blake is back in a new graphic novel, sort of. The story has already been told, but now its being presented in gorgeous color. And this is the one I've been waiting for. If you couldn't tell by previous reviews I'm a Richard girl through and through, and well, this one is where we first meet the delicious junior high school teacher.

Anita is looking for a killer, which leads her straight to Jean Claude and his wicked little Circus, where she gets a little more than she bargained for. Throw in shapeshifters and a giant snake and its a pretty good time. A little gory, but that's what the mature content label is for.

Storywise it's pretty light, some small foreshadowing, but then this is only the collection of the first five of fifteen in the series, plenty of time to flesh out the story. It does stay right along with the original, which makes me very pleased with Jess Ruffner-Booth and Ron Lim.

Art wise, I absolutely love the style. My only complaint is with some of the head to chest ratios, namely Richard. Sometimes he is perfect as he should be, and other times he has a pin head and overly large body. It's distracting, but the everything else was so good I'm still left anxiously awaiting the next one.
