Good Golly! MAGIC MIKE's new Poster is Ab-tastic!

It's easily going to be one of the steamiest movies of the summer, and finally Magic Mike has a poster worthy of it!

Our favorite hot bodies are absolutely drool worthy, and now the only question is where can I get my hands on one, uhh, poster that is.

If you've been living under a rock, and have chosen to ignore the sighs around you, Magic Mike stars Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello and Matthew McConaughey.

Magic Mike is inspired by Tatum's experiences working as a stripper before his acting career took off. But instead of the lead, Tatum plays the mentor to Pettyfer's character, a performer in the troupe.

Magic Mike arrives in U.S. theaters on June 29, 2012. It also stars Matt Bomer, Olivia Munn, Riley Keough and Cody Horn.

ARVID NELSON’S REX MUNDI SLAYS DARK HORSE PRESENTS, GETS OMNIBIZED!

May 31, MILWAUKIE, OR—Arvid Nelson’s critically acclaimed Rex Mundi gets collected in two omnibus volumes and returns in the Eisner-nominated anthology Dark Horse Presents #15, with a new tale of murder, mystery, heresy, and the occult!

Paris, 1933. Europe is still in the grip of feudalism, sorcerers stalk the streets at night, and secret societies vie for power. When a medieval scroll disappears from a Paris church, Dr. Julien Saunière begins uncovering a series of horrific ritual murders connected to the Catholic Church. His investigation turns into a one-man quest to uncover the deepest secrets of Christianity, a trail of conspiracy that extends all the way to the walls of Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Rex Mundi is the tale of a quest for the Holy Grail told as a murder mystery, set in a world where magic is real and the Catholic Church never lost its grip on power.

The story in Dark Horse Presents is the perfect introduction for new readers, and I think old-timers will get a kick out of it, too. Wanna Own A Piece of Superman? Here's your chance!

CHRISTOPHER REEVE,
MARLON BRANDO COSTUMES
FROM SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE
WILL BE FEATURED
AT PROFILES IN HISTORY'S
JULY HOLLYWOOD AUCTION

THE AUCTION WILL BE THE WEEKEND OF
JULY 20 IN LOS ANGELES

LOS ANGELES- May 31 - Profiles in History, run by Joe Maddalena, is proud to announce that a complete Christopher Reeve Superman costume and complete Marlon Brando "Jor-El" costume from Superman: The Movie will be for sale at their July Hollywood auction. These items are a part of the fabled Dreier Collection, a collection of such breadth and immensity that it will take several years to completely auction off.

The complete Christopher Reeve Superman costume consists of a long sleeve leotard of blue and red stretch jersey, a chest emblazoned with the trademark Superman “S” and an interior Bermans & Nathans label typed “Christopher Reeves [sic] 12186 Superman”; a pair of matching blue stretch nylon tights with interior Bermans & Nathans label typed “Christopher Reeve Colour A 18629”; a yellow-painted leather belt; a long flowing cape of scarlet wool with padded shoulders and interior bias label handwritten “C. Reeve Colour B Walking,” the back having a yellow Superman “S” logo with black stitched borders; and a pair of knee-length red leather boots with zipper closures, each boot with Bermans & Nathans labels typed “Christopher Reeves [sic] 12188” and handwritten “Waterproof.” The costume was originally acquired by a sub-contractor who worked as a set decorator and a special effects flying/rigging technician on the first two Superman films at Pinewood studios in London. Its ownership was later transferred to a make-up artist in Nashville, TN, whose letter of provenance will accompany this fantastic costume. Studio labeled throughout, this costume is without question, the finest original Christopher Reeve Superman costume Profiles in History has ever encountered. Easily one of the most recognizable costumes in Hollywood history, it is the most important complete costume from this landmark film ever brought to public auction. It is expected to fetch $60,000 – $80,000.

Marlon Brando wore this amazing, complete Jor-El costume in his memorable role as the father of Superman in Superman: The Movie. The costume consists of a tunic with the iconic “S” insignia with faux jewel detailing, sleeveless full-length robe with faux jewel detailing on the shoulders, pants and boots. The entire costume is layered with a luminous silver/gray reflective material, which appears to glow when subjected to strong light. This ingenious costume effect was first innovated in this production and used on all of the inhabitants of the planet Krypton providing a fantastic otherworldly appearance. Tunic, robe and boots have Bermans and Nathans labels typewritten “Marlon Brando Superman.” The costume comes with a Warner Bros. certificate of authenticity and is expected to fetch $60,000 – $80,000.

You can also own the screen-used Kryptonite crystal and box from Superman III. This green resin “crystal” formation of the crippling mineral Kryptonite is Superman’s only weakness. Measuring 12 in. long and 6 in. tall, this particular prop can be positively screen-matched to the scene where Christopher Reeve is shown cradling the piece in his hands, as a small imperfection on one edge is clearly visible. The box was used by Gus Gorman (Richard Pryor) in disguise as an army general to deliver his synthetic Kryptonite to Superman at the Smallville town fair. Includes a dark wood box with polished brass fittings and measuring approx. 12 in. x 12 in. x 8 in. It includes a letter of authenticity and is expected to fetch $8,000 – $12,000.

The Beastmaster with Don Coscarelli

Who doesn’t love The Beastmaster?  I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve watched it.  Marc Singer was the coolest; talking with animals & slaughtering the Jun Horde was just awesome. How could my viewing pleasure be any better?

Crypticon Seattle topped all my previous viewings with a screening featuring live commentary with director Don Coscarelli, Crypticon board member Steve Lange, and Seattle comedians Emmett Montgomery and Elicia Sanchez.
It started out as fun facts and turned into a home show version of Mystery Science Theater.  Besides adding little known facts like a guy at an S & M shop designed the costumes and claws for the mindless Death Guards, there were also hysterical comments throughout.  For example, during the scene where Tanya Roberts falls and her butt shows.   Don comments, “I always liked that shot.”

The small venue (about 25 people) allowed audience members to ask questions about their favorite scenes.  One viewer wanted to know how Don was able to get such great footage of the hawk soaring.  Don replied the hawk only soared as it was landing.  Therefore, they put it in a bird cage and attached the cage to helium balloons.  When the cage was high enough, they triggered the door to open and filmed the bird as it soared down to its trainer.
Sometimes comments did lean toward the adult viewing pleasure.  Picture the scene:  camera angle from the end of a rope cropped tightly around Marc Singer’s hands as he pulls the rope through a ring, then Elicia Sanchez utters, “Great shot, very sexual.”  In another scene, Roberts kisses Singer and asks if he will now come with them.  Emmett Montgomery replies, “I’m gonna *** all over you” while Singer just smiles on screen.

The comments continued intermingled with Don’s ‘cool facts.’  Did you know that the Death Guard’s mask didn’t have any eye sockets?  “That’s right,” Don chuckled, “the actor kept running into walls.”  Now go back and watch this movie at home.  Try not to crack up when you see the Death Guard running aimlessly though hallways swinging his arms so he wouldn’t run into a wall, I dare ya.
There were also other hazards in the Jun Horde temple.  The torches used put out black smoke.  The entire crew wore breathing masks while the actors completed the scenes.  The make-up people continually used Q-tips to clean out the actors’ nostrils.  Don said he chuckles when he sees the one shot where Roberts has black around her nose.

Don also shared limitations on budget. The scene when Singer meets his father has them surrounded by local dirt farmers.  It was shot at night in a Simi Valley.  Dan hired local homeless people since the budget only allowed for $25 a day per person.  “It was freezing outside.  We gave them robes and huddled them by fires.  They looked like dirt farmers.”
One day Singer came to the set making a honking sound.  Don said he asked him he was making that noise.  Singer replied, “I have to talk to the hawk.”  Singer continued practicing his ‘hawk’ sound all day.  The next time singer saw the cat, he started going, “Grrrrr.”

As the movie was ending (spoiler alert), one of the ferrets falls into a fiery pit.  The entire saddened audience went, “Awwwwe.”  To which Don replied, “Someone had to die.” Then poof!  The sadness was gone.  Don continued, “In the original script Robert’s character died, but the producers over ruled me.”
This is my new favorite way to watch eighties movies.  Instead of a scripted director’s commentary on DVDs, I think they should include a taping of the director and two comedians watching the movie.  It’s much more interesting.

I want to thank Don Coscarelli for sharing his memories and poking fun at his cult classic.  Wonderful idea Crypticon Seattle, this should be an annual event.  Maybe Don with Phantasm next year.

Lost Girl Recap S2E7: Fae Gone Wild

Bo isn’t ready to open the box that the Morrigan gave her. She thinks it all gloom and doom, though Kenzi taunts her to toss it out, they both know that she can’t do that either.

Some pretty leather clad girls give the police station a little show. And not a single one of the officers stop the girls as they disarm them and strip them down, all while some creeper in the holding room watches. Hmmm, so what are the dark fae up to now? Dyson and Hale return to the office to see most of the guys in half dress, and their prisoner missing. The Zephyr, who’s human was broken out, and Dyson can’t ID the girl caught on camera, yet.

The suspect girl’s mother comes to Bo and Kenzi for help. She’s been missing for the last 10 years after a fight with her mother. Bo is willing to take the case so long as Sheri isn’t working with Zephyr. Kenzi doesn’t completely believe the mother, but a digging they will go. Kenzi starts with her Russian peeps for info, and Ksenia Solo shows off her dialect skills.

Hale got no information from the officers in questions, nothing he can use. Thankfully Dyson has a lead, and Kenzi has one for Bo too, which leads Bo to his parked van, and Sheri’s getaway clothes. Bo gives the van a quick once over, but she has company. Trying to find a place to hide, she finds Zephyr, and Dyson and Hale find her. Zephyr is not only dead, hung and missing a hand and possibly something from his side, but Bo isn’t sharing her goods. She makes a quick break as the boys are left to investigate. The death looks ritualistic, and they plan to take the body to Lauren.

The girls go through Bo’s pilfered glovebox goods. For being tree-folk they seem a bit carnivorous, and not nearly as woodsy as Kenzi would like. And Bo’s day just gets worse, as Dyson’s girlfriend or whatever Ciara arrives. Bo wants the low down about Ciara from Trick, and turns out she has something more to one up Bo on, she’s some sort of Billionaire, and Bo lives in a house with no walls. Poor Bo-bo. Kenzi scores a VIP membership to a gentleman’s club, and Kenzi plans their outing to the strip club. Dyson connects one of the officers, Officer Boyd, to the dancing girls; they just have to find out how he knows her, since he gave her his key card to get into the station in the first place.

Bo and Kenzi arrive at the strip club, which is full of all kinds of writhing beauties, who are hypnotizing one very enticing  fae. Even Bo looks a bit awestruck. They watch Sheri as she works the crowd, and Kenzi is feeling more than a little hot and bothered. Bo is feeling horny, but not hypnotized, when her stage time is done, Kenzi calls her over for a lap dance. Bo makes small talk, and Sheri gets nervous. Kenzi’s quick talking leads to Bo’s getting a job.

Kenzi is calling this job done, but Bo isn’t satisfied with the answer. They found the girl, but there is so much more left unanswered. Looks like Bo will have to work the strip club after all.
Hale interrogates Boyd. He claims that he was set up, but Hale doesn’t believe him. Boyd spills the goods on the strip club and how he knows Sheri. He may have spilled about his high profile prisoner, but he didn’t give her his card.

Trick gets some bad news. Light fae nuns attacked dark fae customers at a charity clothing drive, and it looks like it’s not first attack on his map. Bo comes asking about the missing pieces of Zephrys’s body, and its odd matter of death. It’s has all the makings for a Hand of Glory, a thief’s wet dream. As long as the candle stays lit the user will be invisible. The more vicious the killer the stronger the hand. Lauren gives Dyson the same information, Lauren cautions that the Zephyr’s hand will be a strong candle. Dyson asks if she’s shared his Intel with anyone, like maybe Bo, but she has no clue what he’s alluding to. Dyson lets Lauren hang around, and she calls Bo. She doesn’t give Bo anything she doesn’t already know, and that isn’t the only reason she called. Lauren is curious if Bo got the answer to her solution, which make Bo a little prickly.

Bo serves up drinks behind the bar, and she’s able to get close to Sheri. Sheri is less than chatty, and her favorite boys come visit her at work. The coincidences are too much for Dyson, and he grills her. Bo doesn’t admit much, but she gets Dyson to hold off on arresting Sheri until they get the info on the need for the hand of glory. Dyson isn’t sure he can trust her, but Bo convinces him to let her stay undercover.

Bo does a little snooping around the boss’s office, and finds his hidden safe. Which isn’t what it seems to be, she takes a picture, and gets caught admiring the room of sea creatures. Bo slips away from the sleazy manager, and gets his cup to boot. Dyson and Hale checkout what Bo found, and the prints come back, Lewis, sleazy manager is a Water Spirit and dark fae. The boys give her just a little more time to get the information from Sheri.

Bo and Kenzi question Sheri’s momma, who was of course not being completely honest. They aren’t treefolk, they’re selkies, seal shifters. Dear old mom fell in love with a fisherman, and gave him her pelt. She hid away her daughter’s pelt, never revealing to her what she was. She found her pelt, and left home. Without a pelt a selkie can’t return to the sea, hence the grand scheme. Bo catches Sheri before she uses the hand, and Sheri spills the beans about Zephyr and the rest of the selkies, all of the girls are selkies who had their pelts stolen by Lewis. The girls prepare their heist, and Lewis catches them in the act. Before he can stop them, Dyson and Hale come to the rescue/arrest. Bo has no choice but to light the hand with Sheri and go after the pelts. The hand works better than advertised freezing everyone but the two girls, and they use the hand to open the safe.  They grab all the pelts, but the spirit of the hand tries to take its revenge on Sheri. Bo extinguishes the hand, and delivers the pelts to the rest of the girls.

Hale arrests Lewis, but Dyson doesn’t think its enough. Bo appeals to him, and Sheri tells him that the pelts are a special part of them, asks him if he knows what its like to lose something so precious. Of course he does. He plans to make a new crime scene with Bo.

Trick continues to get calls about fae activity, leading him to place a call of his own to Lauren.

Sheri and her mother reunite and make up thanks to Bo. Sheri leaves for the water, but promises to visit often.

Dyson gets in some naked time with Ciara, as she makes his home her own. He may be going through the motions, but there’s a void there.

Trick tells Lauren about the unprovoked fae attacks that are on the rise. She enjoys her little outings, but she’s still not suppose to talk to Bo after her slipping the Ash’s leash. Bo apologizes for her reaction, even though Lauren was also unfair. Bo gives her the box the Morrigan gave her, and Lauren is relieved that the secret is finally out. Nadia’s coma is Lauren’s fault. Nadia followed Lauren, and Lauren came across the fae. Nadia was the only human that caught the fae illness, and Lauren pledged her allegiance to the Ash for his resources. The girls open the box together, and its some rusty nail. Neither know what it means.

Game of Thrones Recap: Blackwater

War is finally upon us. Stannis’ fleet sails to King’s Landing, but it’s a rough journey. The tide is against them, though the wind is with them. Davos seems less than enthusiastic about this war, though his son has full faith. Davos tells him that the walls have never been breached, but his son doesn’t sway in his faith.

Tyrion spends his final hours before the war in bed with Shae. She fiercely vows to protect him, but he doesn’t wish her to. He’s stuck in this war no matter the outcome, but Shae will not be persuaded. She makes tender love to him, like it’s their last day.

The Maester speaks with Cersei, but she hurries him to his point. He gives her some Nightshade, a calming potion, that can easily turn deadly. She takes it from him, and sends him away.

The men of King’s Landing feast. Bronn indulges in song and whores. The Hound enters, and he’s just as chipper as usual. The Hound seems more merry than normal. He tells Bronn that “killing is the thing you love, just like me, only smaller.” And just as things are about to turn bad between the men, the bells of war sound.

Tyrion gets into his armor, and Varys questions his trust in the boy who is assisting before he shows him a detailed map. Varys gives him news on Stannis and his taking up with the Red Priestess. Varys has seen too much, and he believes what Tyrion does not. He thinks that Stannis taking the throne would be the worse thing possible, and that the only person that can stop him is Tyrion.

With their imminent arrival known, Stannis’ men begin to drum,  and speed up their arrival.

Tyrion and Bronn discuss their friendship, and he spots Sansa and Shae. Sansa hasn’t gone to safety yet because Joffery has asked for Sansa to see him off. Joffery shows Sansa his new sword hearteater. They spar with words, and Sansa’s distaste for him is ever at the surface. Shae tells her that many of the men will not come back, but Sansa knows that the worse always survive.

Joffery tries to flex his power stupidly, as if he flexes it any other way, and Tyrion again put the boy in his place.

Cersei gathers with the other women. Sansa wonders why Cersei wishes her there, if she hates her. Shae tells Sansa that she’s likely jealous, when Cersei calls to her. Cersei offers her a glass of wine, but Sansa tries to refuse it.  Cersei gets news of the first betrayal, and Cersei gives swift orders to have their heads mounted to instill fear upon the common folk.

Stannis’ archers get in place. Tyrion’s men hold fast, and Joffery wonders where the rest of his ships are. Stannis’ nmen wonder the same. The ship looks to be empty. The Alchemist passes a flame to Tyrion, and Davos sees the wildfire. A single archer shoots his arrow, and ignites the wildfire. Boom, the fleet is ingulfed him flame, and everything is a light all bewitching green. The men at King’s Landing watch the sailors burn in shock, only the Alchemist smiles at the destruction. Stannis orders his remaining ships forward intent on winning.

Cersei calls Sansa over again. She’s quite peckish. She asks her what she’s doing. Sansa tells her that she is praying, praying that everyone will be okay. Cersei calls her foolish and stupid, and tries again to make her drink wine. She forces the girl to drink. She tells Sansa that she wishes she were borne a man, the waiting does not sit well on her. She tells her that women have more weapons that just tears, and that if the city falls the men will ravage them.

Joffery nearly wets himself seeing that the remaining men are still coming. His craven colors are showing, but Tyrion, gives his commands, and plans to slaughter all who approach. The men of King’s Landing rain arrows upon Stannis’ men, and still they come. The Hound leads his men out for some hand to hand. Lancel takes an arrow to the chest.

Cersei talks about her childhood, how she and Jaime looked so much alike as children, she could not understand why she was treated differently. Jaime got to become a knight, and she was sold off to Robert. Sansa tells her that she was a Queen, but sold she was all the same Cersei says. Cersei spots Shae and begins to grill her when Lancel comes in with news. Cersei tells him to bring Joffery back. Finally she reveal why her bodyguard is really there to Sansa, “Stannis may take the city, he may take the throne but he will not take us alive.”

The fighting intensifies around the Hound. And as he stares into the flames, he’s forced to fall back into the keep. Tyrion wishes for the Hound to go back out, but the Hound refuses, he’s lost half his men. Joffery throws a little tantrum, and Tyrion points out that they will lose the city if he does not fight. But the Hound has a very Fuck everything attitude.

Stannis’s men begin to ram the gate. Lancel comes to collect Joffery, and Tyrion bids him to stay. If he will not fight for his kingdom, why should his men. But Joffery is a craven to his core, and he sends his men out to die in his place as he runs to his mother. Tyrion sees what he must do, he will lead the attack against Stannis. His men begin to draw away, but Tyrion is ready for a plan. He tells them quite a pep talk. There is no reason to fight for kings, kingdoms or riches, only what is already theirs. The men rally, and follow Tyrion. Lancel gives bad news, and Lancel wishes to escort Joffery back to the castle. Cersei strikes him, and the women go into a panic. Sansa immediately calms the women, and Shae hurries her away, telling her that Stannis will not hurt her.

Sansa finds the doll that her father once gave her, and the Hound lurking in the dark. He tells her that he is going some place that isn’t burning, and offers to keep her safe and return her home. She tells him that she’ll be safe here, that Stannis won’t hurt her. The Hound tries to talk sense into her, and tells her that she’s surrounded by killers. She knows he will not hurt her, and he agrees, leaving her.

Tyrion and his men take the field, and annihilate the enemy, or so they think, until the second string come charging in. Tyrion is injured in the battle.

Cersei tells Tommen a story on the Iron Throne, a tale of good lions and evil stags and wolves. The battle rages on outside. As her story goes on, she toys with the Nightshade, giving it to him. But before Tommen can drink it, a slew of men arrive. Tyrion lays upon the battlefield. Tywinn has arrived, and she drops the Nightshade. The battle is over, they have won.
