Chad Michael Murray: Actor & Graphic Novelist

Leilei & Chad Michael Murray
I had the pleasure of meeting one of my favorite actors from one of my favorite tv shows, "One Tree Hill" at Comic Con this year on Friday July 22, 2011. My daughter and I would watch marathon after marathon of OTH  when she was younger, and is one of my fondest memories I have of her while she was growing up. That's also the same thing I told Chad when he signed a poster and took a photo with me. What I didn't expect to see was him signing copies of 'Everlast, Phoenix: A Short Story' his first graphic novel at the Archaia booth, and I of course had to have a copy to read what it was all about. I know he is an awesome actor, but can he write? To answer that question is an understatement. His writing style is very descriptive and a bit dark, but that's exactly what he was going for. He puts the reader in the story as if they were actually there, living it along with the strong, compassionate character that Derek Everlast is. The story takes place pre-apocalyptic and we follow him throughout his destined life choosing people, good people to guide them to a place of renewal called Haven. During these explorations "he must deliver his last charge safely to Haven before the End Of Days," as Chad puts it. Sounds pretty dramatic and adventuresome to me.

"The Chad" writer of graphic novel 'Everlast'
Hmmmm, is this why Chad has been out of the lime light for about seven years since I last saw him on OTH? I suppose so because it definitely shows in his writing. He calls it "a seven year labor of love." The work is beautifully done from the creation and writing to the illustrations, which were done by JK Woodward. He was very nice and friendly towards me as he signed the poster for me as well as for my cousin Jasmine. I didn't see the 'Everlast' t-shirts the first time around so I purchased one when I got in line for the second time and he signed that as well. I told him he didn't have to sign the shirt because it would wash off after I wore it. That right there put a smile on his face when I told him that, and  he signed it anyway. I did wear his shirt the very next day to show him my support. And when I came back to the Archaia booth the next day for 'The Immortals' raffle drawing and signing, Chad actually called out my name. Wow, he remembered my name. How awesome is that?! Yah, some of the girls were hating on me, and even asked me if I really knew him. I told them I just met him yesterday. Then Chad said, "you're wearing it," (meaning the 'Everlast' shirt) with a big smile on his face and I said, "of course I am, I told ya I would" and he proceeded to give me a high five, whilst all eyes were on us. I told him I wanted to get a picture of us both wearing the shirts, but he wasn't wearing his that day, but that didn't matter. He said he was at the booth for just a little while and leaving in a bit, but to come back in a few hours because he was scheduled for more signings. Hey I was down for that because right now I was too excited about winning the raffle to meet Henry Cavill, Kellan Lutz, and Stephan Dorff of  'The Immortals." So later after the signing and flirting with these beautiful actors, I return back to the booth for another photo op with 'The Chad ' haha.....we talked for a little bit and I told him my cousin and I read the short story and LOVED it! I also said that I was looking forward to it officially coming out in a couple months and I would be the first one to purchase a copy.

Leilei & Chad Michael Murray
It's so cool that Chad is writing. Seeing an actor spread his wings to accomplish more in life made me think, because that would mean that he was much more than just that. Surprisingly that he could be more versatile and show depth in his character and in his work. Writing says a lot about a person, it very well mirrors the soul. The man Chad created in this graphic novel, published by Archaia Comics, Derek Everlast is someone who is a loner but also good and compassionate, a survivor as well as a savior. I am looking forward to reading 'Everlast' and seeing how Chad develops Derek's character and also seeing how the story unfolds in the upcoming months. It is a dark story but a story that needs to be told. Hopefully during his book tour I'll get to see him again and get a signed copy by 'The Chad' himself.....;)

Captain America: The First Avenger (Chris Evans)

I finally got to see 'Captain America' starring Chris Evans a couple weeks ago, it was released July 22, 2011 but I was attending the San Diego Comic Convention that whole week, so forgive me for this late movie review. I didn't think I was going to like it as much as I did but I really did enjoy it. The time era in which the story takes place is nostalgic (1942), and the story really does have a story line, setting period is the time of World War II. The main character Steve Rogers, is frustratingly declared unfit for military service due to his sicklyness and underdeveloped size. But soon his life takes a turn when he meets Dr. Erksine, who chooses him for Secret Project Rebirth. He chose him not for his courage, but for his ability to have courage, extraordinary courage at that. Rogers eagerly agrees to the experiment and his meek body is quickly enhanced and transformed into the perfect superb soldier. He is tall, he is muscular, he is fast, much more handsome and stronger than he ever dreamt he could ever be. Soon  the German science division known as HYDRA, and it's masochistic head of this department named Johann Schmidt aka Red Skull believes that Dr. Erksine's project threatens them for this war between Germany and America. So what does he do? Well he sends someone in to infiltrate the Americans and spy on their success, and when it's been reported that in fact the experiment is indeed a success, Erksine is assassinated.

Steve Rogers is then left a man to represent America for propaganda, selling everything including war bonds to promote the war. He then is forced to perform in USO shows for the fighting military men and pretty much degrading him and misusing his special abilities as a super soldier. But when his fellow comrades need him after being held prisoner Rogers follows through by successfully proving himself the 'Captain America' he truly is by rescuing them as a spy under the codename 'Captain America'. Ah so that's where he really got the name. With his bravery and keen sense of power and abilities, Rogers then sets forth with a new and improved unit to go after Schmidt and sabotage his plans. And thus the war begins between Captain America and The Red Skull.

The story was entertaining and had me wanting more after it ended, but wait ...this is after all a Marvel comic book made onto the big screen so you know what that means. YES......the thing that Marvel is best known for at the end of their movie credits.....THE EPILOGUE! And what an epilogue it was, I got so excited because it was THE trailer for the new 'Avengers' movie out next year! OH My God is all that I could say after watching Nick Fury (aka Samuel L.Jackson) appear only to give me goose bumps as Steve Rogers was asked to join forces with him and his special team that consists of Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Hulk and Ironman. Yes this is just the beginning of yet another epic Marvel comic movie sensation. Will it be turned into a trilogy as most of these movies have been? Lord I certainly hope so!

The courageous & sexy beast Chris Evans aka 'Captain America'
I just received my official Captain America 27x40 double sided theater poster in the mail today (for only $10 + S & H on Amazon! What a steal riiight? ) and it inspired me to write this review. I hope you will watch it and be thoroughly amazed by the CGI graphic effects that were used to reverse his already awesome hard body to the small and meek body he began from, and the special effects which for this movie were well needed. I for one will definitely purchase the bluray when it is released in the stores. Here's a photo of my poster I hope to get signed by Chris Evans himself someday to add to my wall of fame!

Best Male Video: Justin Bieber
Best Collaboration: Katy Perry & Kanye West
Best Hip Hop Video: Nicki Minaj

THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NIGHT:
Britney Spears Winner of  MTV Tribute Award, her performance was a winner as well!

Chris Brown performed remarkedly well as he sang and danced to "Yeah 3x" & "Beautiful People" by soaring above the stage and audience. Wow,  I was in awe of the choreography and man can he move!

Adele sings "Someone Like You" so beautifully and with such emotion, I can't wait to see her live in concert one day, she has become my breakout music favorite this year by far! Her performance tonight was epic and very emotional.

Bruno Mars pays tribute to Amy Winehouse, a legend in her own right who died too soon. She sits in the same category as other great jazz singers like Ella Fitzgerald. Tony Bennet remembers her unique voice and shares his love for her. I would have loved to hear him sing his new hit song "Lighters" with Eminem.

Katy Perry wins Video Of The Year!  And what a year it has been for her with hit after hit after hit!

Young Giant performs "My Body" !

Beyonce' confirms baby by showing her 'baby bump' after her perfromance! Rubbing it so proudly while Jayz smiles so intently at her!

Lady Gaga is her alter ego tonight as she opens the awards with some comedy number and then sings "You & I"  then out comes Robert Plant rocking it out on his electirc guitar!

And finally the long awaited teaser trailer for "The Hunger Games"...Jennifer Lawrence could not be there in person to introduce the video sneak peak, but she appeared via satellite and although the sneak peak was awesome...it just wasn't long enough. All we saw was 'Katniss Everdeen' running from something in the arena avoiding being killed and shooting her bow and arrow. I would have loved to see Peeta & Gale somewhere in this teaser as well.

THE MOST TALKED ABOUT MOMENTS:

Lady Gaga as a dude....yah that didn't sit too well with me at all. I would have preferred to see her in one of her outrageous get ups.....her "You & I" performance was good, but sang like a guy too...hmmmm, she should stick to being a girl. Just sayin'....

Will Ferrell, Jack Black, Seth Rogan & Odd Future did a lil' diddy, attempted to rap and break dance before they presented Best Hip Hop Video.....Yah that didn't work for me either.

Then Finally there was JayZ & Kanye West performing "Otis" Live , didn't raise the roof or eyebrows with me either....

I would say THE BEST PERFORMANCE of the night goes to Chris Brown. He is the next Michael Jackson. He is a triple threat with awesome looks, dance moves and awesome voice .... I give him a thumbs up!

Well there it is folks, same channel & same time next year, let's see if the front runners this year are also there next year!

True Blood Recap: Burning Down The House

All chaos continues to break loose at the Tolerance festival, as Antonia commands Eric to kill Bill. Sookie tries to prevent it, and Bill opens fire on Eric and the other vampires with silver bullets. Nan uses what she has, mainly pencils and stakes some offending vampires. Fed up, Sookie uses her microwave hands, and blasts Eric, who remembers everything. Antonia looks around in shock at the carnage as humans lie dying. Her heart aches as she looks at a child crying over her mother. She takes her coven and disappears. Nan (Miss First Responder), and Bill quickly work to spin PR.

Jason and Jessica talk about Hoyt. Jason feels guilty over what he did to Hoyt, but Jessica doesn’t feel so bad. Jason knows that what they did would kill Hoyt, and he blames it on the blood. He asks Jessica to take away his memories, and Jessica refuses to glamour him. No one can make her forget, and upset she leaves.

Alcide takes Tommy to safety. Tommy tells him that he’s dying, and his body spasms. He begs to go home to Merlotte’s, and Alcide complies.

Tara and the rest of the coven being held hostage look for ways out. Holly looks for a spell to undo the spell Antonia used. Antonia returns, claiming that she is risking her soul for them, but they just want to be free of her. Marnie’s body shutter, like the spirits within her are warring.

Nan wants information of Sookie, while Bill is worried about other things. A glamour crew is trying to clean up the mess, and Bill is taking back control, threatening to go to the Authority. He wants to go after the necromancer immediately, like he had wanted to in the first place.

Eric remembers everything. Sookie says that his memory changes everything, she’s almost scared of him now. But Eric tries to convince her that the sweet part of him still exists. He may have his memories, but he’s not the old Eric, he’s something in between sweet amnesia Eric, and ruthless cocky Eric. The problem is Bill, Sookie cannot have a world without Bill. Although she loves Eric, she loves Bill too. Eric has a hard time understanding her love for both of them. He gave her his everything, and he expects the same in return. Pam comes, overwhelmed with having her maker back. She sounds less than grateful to Sookie for breaking the curse, but her joy of having Eric back is clear. Bill plans to blow up Antonia. Sookie doesn’t want the innocents sacrificed, especially Tara. Tara may have chosen the wrong team to back, but she did warn Sookie about the impending attack on Bill. Bill doesn’t want Sookie’s help, and warns her away. Sookie leaves.

Sam arrives at Merlotte’s as Alcide arrives with Tommy. Sam wants to give him some V to help him heal, but Tommy doesn’t want it, Alcide agrees that a man should be allowed to choose his time. Sam tends to his brother, offering him comfort. Sam, Tommy and Alcide talk of death, and Tommy finally apologizes for everything. Sam and Tommy mend their relationship as Tommy slips away, and Sam tells Tommy that he’s loved. With his death, Sam tells Alcide that Marcus is a dead wolf.

Hoyt comes to see Jason, and there’s an awkwardness in the room. He misses Jessica, and it makes Jason all the more uncomfortable. He claims he’s happier without her, but he’s clearly miserable. He asks to stay with Jason, to get out of the house that he and Jessica shared, and Jason agrees.

Terry and Arlene stage an intervention on Andy. Andy claims that its not his V, but Arlene warns him off, and Terry sends her away so he can talk to his cousin alone. He tells Andy that the two of them have to go to Fort Bellefleur.

Jason sits at Sookie’s table, eating. She wonders about his lack of sympathy, and he asks to stay with her. She asks for his help, and spills Bills plans.

Andy and Terry go to their old tree fort. Terry stayed up there for a year when he came back from Iraq a broken man, and Andy helped him, and so he’s going to help him now, even if Andy isn’t willing to admit his problem. Andy thinks V makes him better, and Terry tells him to prove it.

Jason and Sookie go to Lafayette and Jesus for help. Jason and Sookie know they need magic to save the trapped coven from Antonia. Jesus wants to go to Marnie to talk sense into her.

Holly and Tara continue to look into magic to solve their problems. Tara has a lack of faith, and Holly gives her all the reasons why she should have faith. Antonia leaves Marnie’s body. Marnie wants Antonia to finish her work, but Antonia does not. There was too much innocent bloodshed. The world is too big now, she does not think that the prize is worth the cost. Marnie blames the vampires for the teasing, the mocking, everything that she endured, that none of the people are innocent. She convinces Antonia that she is needed, that she can still do good, and Antonia buys into Marnie’s dogma, and resumes control.

Bill, Nan, Jessica, Eric and Pam are bound in silver together in Bill’s house. Nan spews her threats towards Bill and even Eric. Bill has his own plans, and looks like even Eric is on board lying blame solely on Nan.

Lafayette, Jesus, Jason, and Sookie meet in front of the Moon Goddess Emporium. Jesus goes to reason with Antonia, as he tries to cross to the store a force field keeps him out. Antonia goes to talk with Jesus, she asks where he’s been. He tells her he’s been in Mexico with a sick grandfather, she tells him to come through the protection spell to earn her trust. Fighting the magic he goes, crawling, and Sookie and the rest let him, hearing his thoughts that he wants to keep trying. He makes it through, exposing his demon face in the process.

Debbie sits with Marcus, who pumps her for information. Alcide hasn’t been home, but Marcus doesn’t tell her about Tommy. Debbie tells him about her dreams, of running with her pack, of having babies. Alcide doesn’t want a child, and Marcus makes his move on Debbie.

Alcide and Sam go to Marcus’s shop looking for him. Alcide stands by Sam’s side against one of the offending wolves for what happened to Tommy.

Andy tries to focus, but finds himself unable to hit a single target. Terry shows him how its done. He wants Andy to admit he’s a drug addict, so that he can finally get Andy help. Andy and Terry talk about their childhood. Andy and Terry hash out their childhood and revert to a schoolyard-like fight.

Jesus and Antonia talk about his demon that serves him, about his magic. Antonia is looking for a stronger host, she wants Lafayette. Jesus tells her that Lafayette is too scared, but he could come around if Antonia removes the spell and lets him in, but Antonia refuses to take down the protection spell. Jesus finally asks for Marnie, but Antonia is reluctant to release control. Marnie comes through, and she’s happier than ever. He sees that she wants to be possessed, that she’s crazier than ever, and he warns Sookie that it’s Marnie who’s behind the vampire hatred now, that she’s running the whole show, and Antonia is the puppet now. Holly and Tara chant a spell, the wind rushes around them as their magic works. Jesus tells the ones outside to run as Marnie shows him the vampires she has under her control. Holly and Tara get outside, and Sookie and Lafayette run towards them. Antonia seeing the betrayal, uses a spell and the four disappear leaving Jason behind.

Andy tells Terry how hard of time he’s really having, how he’s ashamed. He doesn’t want to be who he is, a V junkie letting the drugs eat his soul. Terry tells him that this is what rock bottom feels like. And he can only go up from here. Fort Bellefleur really did help, and they head home with renewed promises. Terry leaves Andy to walk home a new man.

Eric drives Bill, Pam and Jessica to the Moon Goddess Emporium looking all g man hit squad, ready to burn the place down.

But as they set out in a tiny speedboat, the college friends discover the lake has been stocked with hundreds of massive, flesh-eating sharks! As they face one grisly death after another, Sara and the others struggle desperately to fend off the sharks, get help and stay alive long enough to reach the safety of dry land.

True Blood Recap: Let's Get Out of Here

Alcide  carries Sookie to safety, when he’s bowled over by Bill, who steals her away to her home. He tries to feed her his blood, but she’s not responsive, and he has Alcide to answer to.
The witches regroup, upset over having the beautiful Eric in their presence, but he’s completely over Antonia’s control. Tara questions why the olive branch that the vampires offered wasn’t taken. Antonia orders the coven to cast a spell, and Tara and Holly refuse, dividing the group. Antonia spews more of her vampire hate, and scares more members of the coven, as they try to flee, she locks them all in.
Sookie awakens, and her thoughts go to Eric, which causes distention with Alcide. He leaves in a puppy huff, and Sooks thanks Bill for the blood.
Luna and Sam discuss Marcus, which only makes Sam more protective of her and Emma. He wants to take them away, go back to nature. And it sounds picturesque, and Luna is smitten.
Debbie sits at home watching cheaters, pretending to be asleep when Alcide comes home. He crawls naked into bed, trying to not disturb her, and her eyes wolf out.
Jessica cries to Nan about her boy problems, and it reaffirms Nan’s wish to never wish to become a maker. Bill, Nan, and Jessica are bound by silver as they discuss a vampire event, a festival of tolerance, that is set to take off the following day. Bill wants it cancelled, while Nan refuses to do so.
The rooster crows on Hoyt’s phone, and he awakens looking less than chipper, being poked in the bottom by a Taylor swift cd. Hoyt packs up all of Jessica’s things, as Lafayette strolls in with baby Mikey waving a gun. He forces Hoyt from the house. Arlene and Terry freak out in front of Jason, since their baby is missing. Hoyt calls Jason and tells him where the baby is. Andy takes a hit of V before heading out with the others.
Sookie lies on the couch dreaming of Eric. She’s surprised that he’s there in the daytime, and he takes her in his arms. As Eric kisses down Sookie’s body, Bill appears. Bill says Sookie has never stopped loving her, but she claims that he’s only in her dream since Bill gave her his blood. The boys fight, and Sookie stops them, being all sultry and tells them that they need to talk.
Marcus shows up at Merlotte’s looking to cause trouble, and he finds Tommy. Like a school yard bully he lays out a time and place for a throwdown, and leaves. Tommy takes the information.
Andy and Jason show up at Hoyt’s to reclaim the baby. Andy is starting to fly off the handle, and Jason tries to control the situation. Lala takes a shot at Andy after Andy breaks down the door. Arlene and Terry show up and only make matters worse. And Lala says that her name is Mavis.
Emma chases bunnies, and Luna and Sam sit by the lake. Emma says that she hopes that she’s a shifter rather than a werewolf., but its only so she can pet a bunny. Sam says that he’ll go catch her a bunny, and turn into one.
Debbie buys V from a street dealer.
Dream Sookie tells Bill and Eric that she loves both of them, and proposes that they both be hers. Bill claims that he’s King and he shouldn’t have to share. And Eric agrees that she needs to chose. Sookie tells them that its either both of them or nothing, and when she drops her pretty little red robe to reveal the red lace items underneath, the boys forget their protests. Sookie awakens.
Andy freaks out, and puts Jason in charge. Jesus arrives. Jason asks about their role playing, and if he’s ever been Mavis. Jesus makes his way in alone, Lafayette/Mavis sits rocking the baby. Jesus tries to reason with Mavis, and she doesn’t believe him at first until she looks down Lala’s pants and realizes that everything he’s said is true.
Debbie comes to Sookie’s bearing flowers, and even though Sookie has a hard time getting past the whole trying to kill her thing, she still invites her in. They have a little girl talk in the kitchen, and Sookie says that shes not over the whole almost killing thing. Debbie says she’s wants to try to help, and tries to convince her, but Sookie tells her to be quiet so she can listen. Debbie’s thoughts seem at least sincere. And Sookie is happy to take the help offered.
Jesus tries to help Mavis, he tries to jog Mavis’s memory, so that she can know where her baby is. Mavis relives the night when she died. She was killed in the house, and buried near the tree in the front. Lala returns the baby Arlene, and apologizes, Terry tells him its ok, that “sometimes these things happen.”
Alcide comes to Marcus about moving up in the pack. Marcus questions the sudden desire, and he says its because of Debbie. Marcus recruits Alcide as his muscle.
Jason has a little intervention with Andy, yet again, before heading to help the others with the digging. Jesus and Hoyt find Marvis and her baby’s remains. Mavis holds the baby, and Jesus sets their souls free.
Debbie takes a little trip over to the Moon Goddess Emporium. She’s come to pledge her allegiance to Antonia as Sookie sneaks in the back. Debbie talks big game about hating vampires, and Sookie snoops around looking for Eric. She finds him, but he tells her to go. He’s to kill the king. Tara catches her. Debbie claims she’s brought Sookie to Antonia. Tara sends Sookie a message with her thoughts, and Sookie charges at Tara’s prompt. She and Debbie get away, much to Debbie’s chagrin, and head to Bill. Antonia takes Bill, and locks the others inside. When they try to get out their hands are burned.
At the Tolerance Festival, Nan and Bill are the only vampires there, to prevent potential problems.
Jason fixes Hoyt’s door, and finds Jessica’s cd. He says it goes in the monster box. Jason says that she’s not a monster, but Hoyt says she gave him nothing but some fanger scars, and he convinces Jason to take her stuff to her.
Sam and Luna continue to enjoy their camping trip. Meanwhile Sam/Tommy shows up at Marcus’s shop. Surrounded by his pack Marcus demands that he leave Luna alone. Sam/Tommy goad Marcus into beating him up. They beat him good, as Alcide tries to get Marcus to call the rest of them off. Tommy turns back into himself, and Alcide takes Tommy to safety.
Sookie taunts Debbie to driving faster.
Nan speaks at the Tolerance festival, as Eric arrives proving to be a distraction for the other vampires so the Antonia can mind fuck more vampires he lures from outside.
Jason shows up Vampire Bill’s house with all of Jessica’s stuff. He’s taken the liberty of crossing out the For you Monster that Hoyt had written on the box. Jessica invites him in, and although he refuses, he takes her in the back of his truck.
Debbie and Sookie makes it to the festival, and she sends Debbie home to Alcide. Sookie interrupts the rally, and all the guards are slaughtered while the cameras roll. Antonia sicks Eric on Bill, and Sookie tells Bill to Run!

In this inspirational true story, Machine Gun Preacher is about Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing criminal who undergoes an astonishing transformation and finds an unexpected calling as the savior of hundreds of kidnapped and orphaned children. Gerard Butler (300) delivers a searing performance as Childers, the impassioned founder of the Angels of East Africa rescue organization in Golden Globe-nominated director Marc Forster’s (Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland) moving story of violence and redemption.

When ex-biker-gang member Sam Childers (Butler) makes the life-changing decision to go to East Africa to help repair homes destroyed by civil war, he is outraged by the unspeakable horrors faced by the region’s vulnerable populace, especially the children. Ignoring the warnings of more experienced aide workers, Sam breaks ground for an orphanage where it’s most needed—in the middle of territory controlled by the brutal Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), a renegade militia that forces youngsters to become soldiers before they even reach their teens.

But for Sam, it is not enough to shelter the LRA’s intended victims. Determined to save as many as possible, he leads armed missions deep into enemy territory to retrieve kidnapped children, restoring peace to their lives—and eventually his own. The explosive, real-life tale of a man who has rescued over a thousand orphans from starvation, disease and enslavement, Machine Gun Preacher also stars Michelle Monaghan (Due Date), Kathy Baker (Cold Mountain), Madeline Carroll (Mr. Popper’s Penguins), Academy Award® nominated Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) and Souleyman Sy Savane (“Damages”).

Joe Manganiello To Play A Stripper?

Image Credit: Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images
Were you disturbed by all the panting you heard today? It may have been caused by the news that our favorite nakey butt werewolf has found a way to remain that way after the True Blood season wraps.

Joe Manganiello has found yet another role that requires him to shed his clothes, and bare those luscious invitation muscles. Today EW is reporting that Joe is in final talks for Steven Soderbergh’s movie about male strippers, Magic Mike.

And if that isn't enough to get your heart racing the movie already has signed hotties Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey and Matt Bomer.

Joe is set to play, and I kid you not, a character named Big Dick Richie. As far as I'm concerned it doesn't matter what the movie is about, cause there's a good chance Joe and the rest of the boys are going to be nekkid. But if you are wondering about the plot, Tatum's character mentors Pettyfer in the art of hustling at McConaughey's club.

Magic Mike will start shooting on Sept. 14 for a 2012 release.

Game of Thrones Comic Con Panel 2011

The much anticipated Game of Thrones panel took place on Thursday, the first day of comic con, and I’m not sure why it was in Ballroom 20 (the biggest of the ballrooms, but still) when there were plenty of folks who waited in line for hours only to miss it, and the much larger Hall H sat fairly empty for much of the day. But we did manage to get in, and bring back pictures and a few tidbits from the event.

The panel was moderated by the genius author George R. R. Martin. Joining him were the ultra sexy king slayer: Nikolaj Coaster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister), the too adorable bastard son: Kit Harrington (Jon Snow), the beautiful incestuous queen everyone loves to hate: Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), the vice ridden, quick thinking, brilliant and did I mention Emmy nominated: Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), the larger than life and still in full Khal makeup: Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo), the newcomer, fully clothed, dragonless beauty: Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), and writer/producers David Benioff, and DB Weiss.

Jason Momoa was an obvious fan favorite during the entire panel, for the guy who got killed off during the season, people were very excited about him. And those fans were the ones who actually got Jason cast in the first place. Apparently unable to find the right guy who embodied Drogo the producers turned to fan sites, and struck gold when pretty unanimously they all said Jason Momoa. “No offense, I hadn’t heard of you before,” said executive producer David Benoiff. “I hadn’t kept up on my Baywatch.” Later Jason threw his lot in with Drogo when asked who would win a fight between Khal Drogo and Conan (whom he also plays in this summer’s movie reboot) “Between you and me, Drogo would kick Conan’s ass.”

David Benioff likened the phenomenal series to “crack on paper” and author George R. R. Martin was asked why he loves killing off his beloved characters. His answer was simple.  “It keeps you on your toes,” he replied. “I want people emotionally involved in my story. … I want readers to be afraid to turn the page, not knowing who’s going to live and die.” And I know as I read each book I struggle not to read the ending and ruin the whole thing, just so that I can know who makes it out alive. Martin insisted "I mourn all the characters as I kill them - I tell myself, it's not me killing them, it's the other characters."

The content of the DVDs was also discussed. Although there won’t be any deleted scenes as most of the content shot was used, there will be the first auditions of all the actors, including the dance that Jason Momoa did that won him the role. Apparently sometimes breaking into a spontaneous dance during an interview does indeed get you the results you want. Peter Dinklage gave a little shimmy of his own on stage, when the fans started chanting for Momoa’s dance. Benioff noted that the dance wasn’t even actually in the scene Jason was reading, but Jason went for it, and ripped open his shirt.

And yes next season, as well as later seasons, were also mentioned. “Everyone dies,” Benoiff joked. “It was all a dream,” added Weiss. But seriously, new characters will be introduced, like the Red Priestess and some more bad stuff from the wall. The dragons and wolves will be growing up. They plan to stick with the short seasons for each of the books, and if there is a season three, it’s probably going to be broken up into two seasons, as Storm of Swords is just too big and there are too many important points for a single season. But Benioff went one to say that no matter what happens the Battle of Blackwater will be in the show even if they have to start collecting fan donations to fund the battle. “We’re going to pass my hat around to get some extra contributions,” Martin joked.

And finally the ending. The cast was asked where they’d like to see Martin end their characters, as he hasn’t finished the series yet: Kit: “I want Jon Snow to be on the throne.” Nikolaj: “20 years later…it’s a small cottage, Jaime and Cersei sitting there, ‘finally my love, finally.’” Lena: “Bring Khal Drogo back for sure and have him and Tyrion co-rule.” Peter: “Dance number.” And although no one asked Martin that, one fan did ask if he was concerned about “pulling a Lost.” “Well I think Damon Lindelof is in the room, so I have to be careful what I say. Yes, I am concerned about the ending. I’m juggling a lot of balls. I’m going to juggle as fast as I can and bring everything together in the magnificent way I see it in my head. In terms of people happy, hopefully it will make some people happy. I’ve always been a fan of the bittersweet ending. I’ve said to people that’s what to expect.”
