Sleepy Hollow S1E3 - "For the Triumph of Evil" Recap

Abbie dreams that the teenage version of herself is interrogated by Ichabod in the police station. There's also a forensic psychiatrist present. Ichabod's eyes turn white and then he becomes a white demon with sand falling from his hollow eye sockets. Sand man?

She's woken by a call regarding a jumper. Upon arriving on the scene, Ichabod briefly questions her regarding her dream before they're interrupted by Irving. He questions Abbie as to whether he knows Dr. Mara Vega, the jumper, as she is refusing to speak to anyone but Abbie. When Abbie reaches her, Dr. Vega says, "It's my fault. Everything she saw was real. I believed her and I lied." Turns out she's referring to Abbie's sister Jenny, who was once Dr. Vega's patient. When Dr. Vega turns to Abbie, her eyes are white, like Ichabod's were in Abbie's dream, and Abbie also recognises her as being the forensic psychiatrist in it. Dr. Vega jumps from the ledge to her death. Abbie tells Irving and Ichabod about Dr. Vega's eyes and when they examine her body, the white eye is visible until it explodes into a puff of sand.

Irving sends Abbie to the hospital where the doctor worked. Abbie tells Ichabod the rest of the details of her dreams and Ichabod tells her that she had a prophetic dream and it must relate to the passage about them in Revelations. Ichabod believe this evil is part of what he and Abbie must fight against. After looking through the tapes and records, they find that Dr. Vega believed Jenny wasn't delusional, but kept her institutionalised out of fear for also being thought of as crazy. Ichabod convinces Abbie that they should visit Jenny.

At the institution, Jenny doesn't want to speak to Abbie but when Abbie is prepared to leave, Ichabod asks Abbie if he may go speak to her alone. Also, she's in room 49 - remember what vision-Sheriff told Abbie? Jenny admits she let Ichabod visit her because she was curious. Ichabod delivers the bad news to Jenny about Dr. Vega and tells her he needs to know what she knows. She wants to send him away but he tells her the Four Horsemen are coming and that the first one is already here, taking victims. She tells him that her conscience is clear and to ask Abbie if she can say the same.

Abbie confesses that when they were teenagers and passed out in the forest, it felt like they'd only been asleep a few minutes but had actually been out for four days. Abbie denied seeing anything and Jenny's sticking to the story of what they really saw is what got her locked up. Also, the rancher that found them also saw the demon that came out of the ground but like Abbie, he never admitted to seeing anything.

They set out to visit Mr. Gillespie but before they arrive, he goes to sleep, wakes from noises, cuts himself on a nail, the blood spatter forms the shape of Ichabod's tattoo, and shoots at the demon from Abbie's dream before it disappears. When they arrive, Captain Irving and other officers are already there after receiving a call about shots being fired. Abbie goes inside, armed and wearing a vest. Mr. Gillespie is in the kitchen, sitting on the floor with white eyes. His wife is being held hostage. When Gillespie sees the demon behind Abbie, she shoots into the air but Abbie radios Irving to tell them all to stand down. Gillespie tells her that the Sandman is coming after her and that she's dead the next time she goes to sleep. He then shoots himself in the head.

Abbie tells Ichabod the story of the Sandman, as he's unfamiliar with it. They research the legend and realise that it's a creature from a Mohawk myth. This demon would strike when people didn't do what was morally right but sometimes, the spirit could be warded off by a particular symbol. Ichabod suggests they visit a Mohawk shaman and the only one they're able to track down is a used car dealer named Wendel Clark. He refuses at first, thinking they're insulting his heritage.

Ichabod asks Wendel what he'll do when the Sandman comes for him but Wendel says that his conscience is clear. Ichabod quotes Edmond Burke, saying "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." Clark finally agrees to help and takes them to a cabin where he tells them the story of the demon. He gives Abbie a tea to send her to the dream plain where she must fight the demon. If she loses, she will die. When Ichabod hears the riskiness of the mission, he takes some tea for himself, much to Abbie's objection. The tea will only put them to sleep and they must be stung by scorpions; the venom is what sends them to the dream plain.

In the dream plain, they are separated but both are in a forest. The Sandman appears behind Abbie and throws some sand falling from his eyes into her face. Ichabod finds a red door in the forest and opens it. Abbie tries to shot the demon but its to no avail. Then she's back in the interrogation room seeing her teenage self with her sister. She then sees that the officer is actually the demon in disguise. When Ichabod goes through the red door, he is in a hallway where the Sandman's victims are all hanging from nooses. He comes across Abbie being attacked by the demon and tries to stop him, but he turns around and begins attacking him. Abbie then finds her strength and confesses her mistakes and states that she was a coward for abandoning her sister and that she will not do it again. The Sandman begins to turn to glass and Abbie then smashes him to pieces.

Abbie and Ichabod awake from the dream plain, unharmed. They chat and recover from their ordeal in the records room where Captain Irving comes across them. He tells them not to break any more walls and says that he'll get them a key to the room. Ichabod offers to discuss how they stopped things but the Captain doesn't want to know any more than the fact that it's over. Ichabod stay in the records room and Abbie leaves to visit her sister. When she arrives at room 49, she finds that Jenny has escaped through an air shaft.

Sleepy Hollow airs on Mondays on FOX at 9PM.

Masters of Sex S1E1 - "Pilot" Recap

In 1956, a nationally renowned fertility specialist met a former nightclub singer. Ten years later, they published a scientific understanding of human sexuality.

Dr. William H. Masters is honoured at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri for his work in Obstetrics surgery. Following this, he watches through a peep hole as Betty DiMello, a prostitute, has sex with a client named Ernie. He has a timer and takes notes on his observations. Afterwards, he interviews her as part of his research on sex. She tells him she had faked her orgasm and he is amazed, having never learned of this. He doesn't understand why a woman would lie about that and she tells him if he really wants to learn about sex, he should get himself a female partner.

Ethan Hass, a young doctor, tells Bill about a new female employee that is in the midst of divorcing her husband. Bill says that he is getting support from Scully about presenting his research to the board but Ethan doesn't have much confidence in this study. Bill assures him that it would be conducted in secrecy. When Bill returns home to his wife Libby, she has a romantic set-up in place. Their conversation reveals that they are having difficulties getting pregnant.

Ethan drives Virgina E. Johnson home and flirts with her. She tells him that perhaps they will be friends but when he admits he has been thinking about kissing her, she tells him friends can kiss. The next day, Ethan tells Bill that she gave him a blow job and calls it "incredible." Ethan is highly infatuated by her and brings her up to the Obstetrics wing to show her a c-section taking place in which Bill is the lead surgeon.

Virginia interviews to be Bill's new secretary. She is studying behaviour sciences and will have her degree by the end of the year. She says she has been married twice and has two children from the second one. They discuss love, marriage, and she says she believes womyn often believe love and sex are the same but she says they can be separate. He says he has never heard a woman express that opinion before. He asks her why a woman would fake an orgasm and she says it could be to get the man to climax quicker so she can get back to whatever she was doing. Virginia heads to the registrar and signs up for some sociology courses as an undeclared major.

Bill meets with Scully who tells him he didn't present the project to the board because they will dismiss it as smut. Bill finds it illogical that there are libraries of books about babies being born without any information about how babies are made. He says they should be researching it as doctors but Scully will not see reason.

Bill returns home and finds that Libby is distraught over the fact that her period just began and she is therefore not pregnant. Virginia is hired as Bill's secretary and Bill tells her Libby will be coming in to join his cervical cap trial to try to help her conceive. Ethan drives Virginia home where they have sex and she teaches him to perform cunnilingus, something he has never done before or even considered attempting. He enjoys it thoroughly.

Bill's patient is distraught because she lost her baby and other doctors have told her she will not be able to have another one. Bill promises he will not rest until she has another baby. Post-sex, Bill tells Virginia that Bill's low sperm count is what prevents his wife from being able to get pregnant but his ego keeps him from telling anyone about it. Ethan only knows this because he snuck a peek at Bill's file. Virginia politely kicks Ethan out, saying it would be confusing for her children and also, they are just friends. He expresses his confusion to Bill over the great sex but lack of emotional involvement. He says he is in love with her but she is killing him. Bill wants to focus on helping his patient(s) conceive.

Bill has Betty come in to take part in his new study on sex. Ethan begins treating Libby since it's against protocol for him to be the one to treat her. While Bill is hooking the monitor up to Betty, he learns that she is gay. Bill informs Virginia about the nature of his research and asks her to assist him with it since he believes she has good instincts for the work. She recruits Jane, another worked in the hospital to take part in the study.

Bill designs a dildo with a camera built into it to. He has Scully come in to observe what happens inside as Jane masturbates with it, though her identity is kept anonymous from him with the help of a curtain that hides her upper half. Bill presses Scully to submit his proposal to the board but when Scully remains stubborn, Bill threatens to quit, which would cost the hospital a great deal of money.

That night, Bill and Virginia sit and wait. Ethan comes in and is upset when Virginia tells him to go out without her, despite their having had plans to head to a benefit together. Bill warns her that their behaviour must be without reproach, as their study is already scandalous by other people's standards. He expresses his frustrations with people's attitudes about sex and dismissal of the importance of scientific research on it. When they are about to leave for the benefit, Scully leaves and gives them the approval to continue their research.

Bill and Virginia head to the benefit. They recruit Dr. Austin Langham to take part in their study. He is married, but has a reputation for having extramarital affairs. Ethan gets upset at Virginia and they head outside where he complains about her beginning to spend more time with Bill than him. She tells him they are friends but Ethan says that friends don't make love to each other. She apologises for hurting him but then he hits her. She hits back and he breaks thing off, calling her a whore before storming off.

Virginia is left with a bruise on her face but returns to work and meets Bill's patient, who is overjoyed at the news that she is pregnant again. Langham meets Jane and is charmed right off the bat. They are both hooked up to wires and Virginia tells them there are no rules and they only need to move through the four stages so the necessary data may be collected. Bill and Virginia observe from the other room. Bill later tells Virginia that they run the risk of potential transference between them and their patients. He suggests that they have sex with each other to deflect any inappropriate interaction with the patients and then they will be able to interpret the data first-hand. Virginia asks to think about it over the weekend.

Masters of Sex airs on Sundays on Showtime at 10PM.

Once Upon A Time Recap S3E01: Heart of the Truest Believer

The new season starts back at Henry's birth, when Emma refuses to even look at her new baby as she gives him up. And then back to the present day as everyone holds tight to Hook's boat as it heads into Neverland.

Henry is already there, being held by his kidnappers Tamara and Greg, but he knows that his mother will rescue him. They're here to destroy Neverland, the hub of magic. Who they work for is unclear, and their no questions asked policy doesn't serve them when their only mode of contact seems to be a toy.

Hook is melancholy on his return, and Regina ponders a happy ending. Do Villains get to be happy? Neither of these two are true villains though, so maybe there's hope for them yet.

Snow tries to be a parent to Emma, but Emma can't accept her words. Snow and Charming are not only her age, but they've never been parents to her. Emma lashes out on her parents, regretting the breaking of the curse. The optimism is infuriating, for both Emma and me, and Gold steps in. Thank goodness for Gold. He'll rescue Henry himself, pointing out that leaps of faith aren't Emma's strong point, and he disappears.

The "home office" steps forward, and they aren't who they claimed to be. The lost boys sent Tamara and Greg after Henry, and they aren't planning on sending Tamara or Greg home. I smell a rumble in the jungle brewing, and I don't think Pan plays fair. Pan's shadow quickly dispatches Greg and Tamara is no match for the Lost Boys. Run Henry run he tears into the jungle. A former lost boy comes to Henry's rescue, and with little to go on, Henry follows him. I don't know about you, but the stranger danger alarms are going off in my head.

Hook walks in on Emma preparing for a fight. Cheeky and kinda sweet as always, he gives her one of Neil's old weapons, unaware that Neil is not only alive but with Mulan, Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip in the Enchanted Forrest. Sleeping Beauty offers to make contact with Emma, and give her a message.

Hook missses Neil. Is it just me, or does anyone else want these two to hook up? Emma and Hook, there's just something fantastic between them. But before he can get too sentimental something rocks the ship: Mermaids. These are not the sweet creatures of Disney, beautiful and deadly they plan to rip apart the ship. Charming refuses to be capsized by fish, and Snow and Emma quickly get to work to snag themselves a mermaid. Regina resorts to magic and blasts them away while the girls haul in their catch.

Henry and his Former Lost Boy, FLB until he reveals his name, lose the Lost Boys, and he's not exactly optimistic. What Pan wants he gets apparently. Henry spouts off some more hope, sure that his family will find him, although FLB hopes they don't for their own safety.

Mulan grills Neil about the otherside. Aurora is unable to make contact, but Neil knows someone who would be able to and Neil plans to go to his father's home to search for something that could help him get home.

Gold finds a dying Tamara, and he removes the arrow from her back, healing her so she can speak, and sing she does. She tells him that she didn't know it was Pan she was working for. She asks for forgiveness, and Gold takes her heart, crushing it to dust.

Hook and Charming want nothing to do with the mermaid, but the girls have other ideas when she blows her seashell and sounds a warning.

Mulan asks Neil why Emma never mentioned her, and he tells her that he broke Emma's heart. Mulan realizes some things about herself, and likely that lopsided love triangle she's in.

FLB and Henry think they've aluded the Lost Boys but an arrow wizzing just shy of them says otherwise.

As everyone on the ship decide what to do with the mermaid, she smiles as thunder rolls in. Charming debates on killing her, but when Regina supports the idea, Charming rethinks his stance. Through all the arguing Regina turns the mermaid into a statue, but that doesn't stop storm, or the giant wave from overtaking them.

Neil and Mulan make it to Gold's home, but they aren't alone. Robin Hood is in residence.  Robin knew Gold, and actually had his life spared by the dark one. Neil looks for a magical item, and finds Gold's former cane, which reveals a magical door.

Hook and Emma fight to control the boat. Snow and Regina battle each other as the storm rages on. Charming tries to step in, and Hook gets into it as well. Emma realizes that it is them that is causing the storm, their fighting is causing the turbulence, and throws herself overboard to save them all.

Henry and FLB reach the end of the road. FLB is willing to give up the pixy dust to save themselves, since the dust is defective. But its not the dust that's defective, but the boy's belief, Henry dumps the dust on them, and takes a leap, and the two fly away to safety. Am I just being cynical, or is FLB a mole, or is it Pan himself? Mark my words he will betray Henry.

Everyone bands together to save Emma. Charming dives into the water, and Emma is rescued. Snow and Charming hold Emma while Hook and Regina watch from the sidelines. She wakes and the storm has passed.

Gold recieves a welcome from one of the lost boys, who turns out not to be Pan. He warns Gold that if he goes against Pan to take the boy, they will be enemies, and Gold draws his line firmly in the sand, ready to take down as many Lost Boys as possible. The boy throws at Gold's feet a familar doll and some painful memories.

Neil finds what he's looking for, but it doesn't work until Mulan coaxes him to think of Emma. And he sees she's in Neverland.

Regina wishes to fix the Jolly Roger, but Emma wants a full front attack, Pan already knows they're coming. Emma wants them to band together, as they are rather than pretending to be what they are not, and to save Henry. With all the ferocity of a mother bear she rallies then and they fall into line, even Regina,  unbeknownst to them that Henry is just overhead flying to "safety". And Henry's worst fear comes true, his companion is Pan! Betrayal comes early this season! Pan needs the heart of the truest believer, and Henry just proved he believes with that little leap with the dust. Pan calls in the boys, to play a game Henry is not likely to enjoy.

And that concludes the premiere of Season 3. Who else is excited for some Neverland craziness, maybe a Hook/Pan showdown, and of course more magic and mermaids. It's going to be a great season from the looks of things.

The Hollow Crown's "Richard II" - A triumph in America!

The complete series of "The Hollow Crown" is already available for purchase on DVD.

Coming to America

On September 20, the first instalment of the BBC hit, "The Hollow Crown," aired on PBS as a part of its long-running "Great Performances" series. This debut was long awaited by Shakespeare fans in America, as well as those who have pledged their allegiance to the army of Tom Hiddleston. Promotion for The Hollow Crown's move to America included a viral video of the man himself instructing Cookie Monster on the merits of delayed gratification:

#TomNomNom hit a million views in a matter of days.

History by Shakespeare

The first of this Shakespearean tetralogy, Richard II, is a tale that demonstrates parallels to Greek mythologies of doomed protagonists undone by their own hubris. For those unfamiliar with English history, Richard II is a historical figure who reigned as the King of England from 1377 to 1399.

Great Performances, Indeed

Ben Whishaw's BAFTA-winning portrayal of King Richard II is both mesmerising and enigmatic. Several characters demonstrate a propensity for speaking in rhymed couplets to convey heightened emotional intensity, though none indulge in such fanciful speech patterns more so than Richard. As Richard finds himself losing allies, his title, and arguably, his mind, Whishaw's performance only becomes more gripping. His mannerisms, hand movements, and overall delicacy all aid his bringing to life a character that has led a life of privilege and been consumed by it.

Yet another performance worth mentioning is that of Sir Patrick Stewart's. Though John of Gaunt is not present past the second act, he still manages to deliver one of the most famous speeches of the entire play. Stewart commands the screen with eloquence and ease.

Final thoughts

Overall, Richard II is aesthetically pleasing and paints a portrait of a King undone by his lack of compassion for his people, selfish concern for his own well-being and luxury, and lack of understanding of the politics of his royal position.

Viewing aides

  • - During this time period, a King was believed to be divinely selected by God. To go against a King or make efforts to overthrow him was seen as a form of blasphemy. Such religiously rooted fears greatly influence the decision-making processes of the characters.
  • - If one character curses another, or speaks of their inevitable downfall (or hardships to come), it should be taken seriously. Shakespeare is highly fond of such curses being used as tools of foreshadowing. (Think back to Romeo and Juliet, as Mercutio's dying words, "A plague o' both your houses," foreshadow the play's ending).
  • - Foreshadowing in general runs abundant not only throughout the confines of Richard II, but spanning from this play into the instalments that follow: Henry IV (Part 1), Henry IV (Part 2), and Henry V

Henry IV (Part 1) has aired as of September 27, Henry IV (Part 2) is set to air October 3, and Henry V on October 10, on PBS. Check your local listings.

Atlantis S1E1 - "The Earth Bull" Recap

A young man named Jason from 21st century England goes off in search of his long-lost father. He is determined to know what happened to his father so he goes in search of his submarine. His father gave him a necklace and seemed to know he wasn't coming back. Jason is alone in a submarine and dives deeper and deeper until he finds a ship with the word "Oracle" written on it. Suddenly he is pulled towards a light and unable to reach the ship from which he dove. The glass cracks and...

We see a woman's eyes open, as if she's just had a vision of his fate. She calls his name and Jason is shown to have washed up on a beach, wearing nothing but the necklace his father gave him. He calls out to some people that have just taken a small boat out onto the ocean. He steals their clothes and heads off into a strange, ancient-looking land. He enters a market place and wonders if he is dreaming when he encounters a two-headed reptilian creature he's never before witnessed. The creature chases him through the marketplace and he manages to beat its heads unconscious and is then chased by some guards. Other guards shoot arrows at him and one hits him in the arm. He jumps off a high balcony and crashes on a roof, dangling off the side of the balcony. He is rescued by a man inside and the guards begin banging on the door in search of Jason. Jason implores him to help him and the man hides him in a secret comaprtment under the floor, safely hiding him from the guards who barge in. When they leave, the man opens the compartment and finds that Jason has passed out.

When Jason wakes, the man is tending to his wound and tells him he is in the city of Atlantis. Jason asks if he is referring to the lost city of Atlantis under the ocean and the man is confused, asking how a city could be under the ocean, since everyone would drown, and why he is calling it lost. The man introduces himself as Pythagoras and when Jason calls him "The Triangle Guy," Pythagoras asks how he knew he'd been thinking about triangles. A hefty man comes in and Jason learns this man is Hercules. After Hercules leaves, Jason tells Pythagoras that he is searching for his father. Pythagoras tells Jason that his necklace is a symbol on the Temple of Poseidon and that visiting the Oracle may yield some results.

Jason asks the Oracle why Atlantis feels so familiar and she speaks cryptically about long-lost memories. He realises he was born in Atlantis. She tells him his father took him to the "other world" when he was just a baby and that he has many memories here. She warns him to tell no one of his journey through the gateway and says that his father walks among the dead. Jason asks about the identity of his mother and the Oracle says there are some things even she cannot see. She says that only he can help the people of Atlantis and Jason is confused about what she says. Jason is sent away and he leaves with many still burning questions. The Oracle's helper asks her why she did not tell him the truth and she says that it will be much safer for him if he does not know who he is.

Jason tells Pythagoras that his father is dead and does not know where his home is. He conveys a life-long feeling of not belonging and of feeling lost. They watch a strange ritual and and Pythagoras says that tomorrow, seven tributes will be selected to be sacrificed to the minotaur so they will not incur the wrath of Poseidon. Pythagoras offers Jason a place to stay.

Hercules is upset about harbouring a fugitive but Pythagoras reminds him that he never paid a debt back to Pythagoras and Hercules drops the matter. That night, Hercules sneaks out and Jason wakes Pythagoras to tell him what has happened. Pythagoras says Hercules is trying to avoid being chosen as a sacrifice and that they must go after him since the guards will execute him on sight. They catch up to Hercules and Pythagoras implores him to stay. They are almost caught and Hercules falls off a balcony but is for the most part, uninjured. The trio runs to avoid hunting lions and just when Jason looks as if he'll be caught, he displays superhero-like athleticism and is able to get away. Pythagoras asks him how he did that and Jason is unable to answer.

The next morning, the trio gather with the other citizens of Atlantis and are addressed by the King. They are told that if they draw a white stone, they will be safe. If they draw a black stone, they will be sacrificed to appease the gods. Hercules is the first of the trio to draw a stone and it is white. Jason is next and also draws a white stone. He notices the princess Ariadne staring at him but she looks away when he looks back at her. He also draws a white stone. When Pythagoras goes up, he draws a black stone and Jason and Hercules look on in horror. That night, Hercules and Jason try to strategise a plan for him to survive. Pythagoras appears resigned to his fate and they agree to drink and enjoy their last night together.

At the palace, the princess Ariadne won't eat as the sacrifices the citizens are forced to make have made her lose her appetite. Her stepmother, the Queen, loses her temper and strikes Ariadne.

As the sun rises, Jason looks at the black stone and decides to sneak off with it. He grabs a sword, the stone, and heads off to the palace. Ariadne looks at him, knowing what he has done. The King tells the tributes that there is no greater honour than to give their lives for their city and king. Jason is washed by a servant in preparation for the battle and Ariadne comes over and sends the servant away. She questions Jason why he is there when she saw him draw a black stone. He says that he has come in place of a friend and that after speaking with the Oracle, he believes it his fate to kill the minotaur. Ariadne asks for him name, which Jason gives, and she gives him an enchanted charm to help him in the labyrinth. They have some smouldering eye contact before the sound of drums calls Jason away.

Pythagoras slaps Hercules awake and tells him what Jason has done. He catches Jason as he is marching in, and Jason tells him that he and his triangles are destined to bore children in school throughout history, and that this is Jason's fate, not his. Pythagoras grabs some weapons and tells Hercules he plans to sneak into the caves before Jason and the other tributes arrives. Hercules suggests sneaking in, leaving the weapons, and leaving the caves again before any harm can come to them. Pythagoras reminds Hercules that Jason has saved Hercules' life and offered his own up in place of Pythagoras', and therefore he will not let Jason face the minotaur alone.

Pythagoras and Hercules and the tributes reach the caves at the same time as the tributes. The two of them run down and Jason grabs a sword only to have it knocked from his hands by a guard. Two tributes are let free and Pythagoras and Hercules are sent in in their place. Inside, the tributes sneak around and eventually they encounter the minotaur. Though he is nearly killed by it, Jason is able to stab the minotaur and it slowly turns into an old man. He thanks Jason by name, and Jason questions how he knows his name. The man tells him that it was foretold that he would lift the curse placed on him, he knew and betrayed Jason's father, and he has a great destiny ahead of him. The man dies in Jason's arm.

In the temple, the Oracle utters, "The Earth Bull has been slain." Her assistant says that he is indeed the answer to their prayers. She warns that others will come to realise this and seek to destroy him.

The king celebrates the fact that no more citizens will have to be sent to the minotaur. He thanks the trio and says that the city owes them a great debt. Jason privately thanks Ariadne for the necklace but the Queen notices the interaction. She asks Ariadne about Jason but she plays coy. She suspiciously down at him from the place. Hercules celebrates the potential profit to be gained from this boost to their reputation and Jason and Pythagoras tease him for attempting to act as if he had any part in slaying the minotaur.

Atlantis airs on Saturdays on BBC One.

Haven S4E3 - "Bad Blood" Recap

A city worker goes down into a sewer to work but is attacked by an unknown creature. Dwight calls Vince and Dave in to go to New Hampshire to identify a body that may or may not be Audrey's. Lexie is still holding William at gunpoint, trying to get answers out of him. Now she wants answers, but William then says she's not ready. She escorts him to the door and kicks him out. But when she's behind the bar and turns back around, William is sitting there again with a beer.

Dwight and Nathan head to the sewer where the body of the city worker has been completely drained of blood. However, there's no obvious puncture wounds that they can find. It's then that Dwight gets a call about a second body.

Jennifer is staying in Audrey's old apartment at the Grey Gull. Duke is having nightmares and Audrey can't sleep well since Wade won't stop partying late. As Jennifer prepares to cut another orange, she nicks her finger with the knife. Duke jumps back to avoid being near the blood because of his Trouble. Duke then tries to get Wade to go back to the city but Wade doesn't want to return to his old life.

The second body was found near an open manhole but the victim is a postal worker. Nathan's somewhat considering a vampire-like theory. The manhole is connected to the same line in which the first body was found. A third body is found in a house along the route of the same sewer line. Outside, Dwight and Jordan spot a life-like pool of blood travel back into a sewer outlet.

Lexie asks William how he got back into the bar and he responds that the bar isn't real. Jennifer wakes up from a nap hearing sounds from a party. But when she goes downstairs, there is no party. The only person in there is Duke and Jennifer begins to wonder again if she really is crazy. Nathan, Dwight and Jordan discuss the blood monster and Nathan theorises that it must have begun at the end of town. Jordan says that Mike Gallagher lives there; Mike is a worker that Nathan met that morning who had given him a hard time and also had a bandage on his hand.

Lexie isn't feeling well so she leaves to go home and hopefully feel better. William watches her leave but then she immediately comes back in. The barmaid, Rhonda, bids her good morning but Lexie knows that she had just left.

At Mike Gallagher's, they learn that his wife has just died - the likely trigger for the Trouble. Dwight gets a call about a worker having just spotted a "red monster." In tracking the blood's movements, they realise that it is headed for the police station. Duke brings Jennifer to the station to talk to Nathan about what she is hearing. The blood is there and kills an officer before going after Duke and Jennifer. They locks themselves in Nathan's office and Jennifer starts hearing voices again. A few drops of blood get on Duke's hand and the blood retreats. The blood triggers his Trouble and his eyes flash silver. He's able to recover as Dwight, Nathan and Jordan arrive with Mike Gallagher. Jordan tells Jennifer that Duke is an "evil sponge" for Trouble blood. The blood comes on the attack again and is headed for Nathan. Dwight uses his taser and it momentarily stuns it before is comes after Nathan again. Mike says that he cut himself yesterday and tried to be careful, but some of his blood must have made it down the drain. He doesn't want Nathan dead but doesn't know how to stop it. Jordan touches the blood with her bare hands and it stops it only temporarily like what happened with the taser.

Vince and Dave are at the New Hampshire morgue and Vince is struggling to go in and see the body. Dave tells him they have to go in and do what Dwight asked. Vince realises this is what Nathan must have felt when watching Audrey go into the barn. Back at the bar, Lexie asks William if she's dead.

There's no theories left for how to deal with the blood so Duke decides to absorb it, even though Nathan is worried it could kill him. While under the influence, he nearly strangles Dwight but Nathan is able to talk him down. The rest of the group goes searching to make sure there is no remaining blood, while Jennifer stays to talk to him, now understanding his reaction to her cut. He reveals to her that it doesn't hurt, but actually feels "heroine-amazing." After seeing what this Trouble did to his father, grandfather, and the rest of his family, he wants Wade gone before he ends up with the same Trouble and has his life ruined, too. Jordan has a quiet moment with Nathan, saying she can't live like this anymore with her Trouble and that he has to do what he promised and end the Troubles.

Dave and Vince first check the body's left foot and find there is no scar - Audrey had a distinctive scar on it. They then check the face and again confirm that the body is not Audrey's. William tells Lexie that she's very much alive and Jennifer hears him say that. Jennifer then hears Lexie say that none of the people are real. When Lexie accepts that none of the people are real, they all disappear.

Vince and Dave return to the station to deliver the news. Vince tells Dave that Nathan is their only chance. At the Grey Gull, Duke apologises to Dwight for nearly crushing his windpipe. Wade overhears Dwight talking about Duke being a hero and Dwight leaves, knowing that he doesn't know about the Trouble. Jennifer interrupts and tells Duke to call Nathan. When Nathan arrives, Jennifer tells him that Audrey was talking about a place that wasn't real and Duke realises that she must still be in the barn. Even though Nathan saw the barn implode, Duke points out that time moves differently in the barn. William tells Lexie that the bar is the barn, it's dying, and if they don't hurry, it will take her with it.

Haven airs on Fridays on Syfy at 10PM.
