Supernatural Recap S9E01: I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here

The boys are back! Finally! And picking up from last season, they're pondering the "meteor shower." No rest for the wicked, and Dean has a bee in his bonnet over Sam dying, again.

Sam is in a coma, and things don't sound good. The doctor gives the grim news, Sam can't recover from this latest malady, and only God can fix him now, something Dean isn't ready or willing to accept. Rather than praying to God, he prays to Cas. He doesn't care that the angels fell, only that he needs his other "brother." When Castiel doesn't answer, he sends out an all points bulletin to every angel within hearing distance, offering his help for theirs, and angels head his way.

Comotose Sam continues his chat with Dean in his car. Sam isn't ready to believe Dean, but he has to. Sam questions Dean on his plan, but of course seeing as its all in his head, Dean can't spill the beans on his plan, and when he questions if they should even fight, in pops Bobby.

A disorientated Castiel nearly gets himself smashed by a truck, and sounds fairly crazy as the driver tries to help him. The fallen angel isn't quite use to being human.

Sam tries to sort things out, as Dean and Bobby argue over why they're there. Bobby transports him out, so that they can have a private chat.

The driver drops Cas off at the nearest gas station, and gives him money for a phone call and sandwich, and a reluctant Cas takes it. But he's still not use to being human, and his social skills suck. Castiel runs into another fallen angel, Hale.

Dean isn't ready to speak with the grief counsellor who comes calling, ready to talk about the inevitable. Dean's beacon of hope is just a bit shinier than hers, and then he remembers his ace in the hole, the king of hell. Before he can cut any deals with good ole' Crowley our first angel arrives, and with his blade at Dean's throat, he seems a little hostile! The angel is looking for Castiel, and before he can drive that angel blade into Dean, he's saved by a second angel. The two angels fight it out, the first seemingly has the upper hand until Dean drives his own blade through him. He doesn't reveal his name, and but offers his assistance, then passes out.

Hale tells Cas of her falling. Cas may have lost his grace, but not his angel radio. Many angels are without a vessel and scared, and Hale fears a life with no heaven. But Cas tells her that she and the other angels can build a life here. He asks her what she wants most to do, and she tells him she would like to see something she built, the Grand Canyon.

The second angel awakens in the midst of a fire ring. He reveals his name is Ezekiel. Although he fell, he still believes in the cause that landed him here in the first place, and is willing to help him.

Sam is lost, unsure of what is the right choice.

Dean worries that Ezekiel cannot heal after his fall. Cas tells Dean that the angels falling wasn't the trials, but instead a spell. Dean tells him about Sam, and he plans to come help after he helps Hale. He gives Ezekiel his stamp of approval though. Dean warns him to be careful, to abandon all of the angels and get to the bunker alone. Without his grace, he's human. The entire hospital shakes, and Ezekiel tells him its the other angels looking for vessels. Dean gets to drawing protection symbols, and Cas tries to ditch Hale. Hale doesn't take it so well though, and smashes his head with a board. Night, night Cas. Dean locks up the room so that nothing can come in or out, and Ezekiel tells him that they're already here. Dean rushes out to clear the hospital of everyone.

Cas awakens in Hales car. She's clinging to some sort of structure. She blames him for making the angels fall. She plans to become one with him, to take his vessel, hers is decaying.

As Dean tries to save the grief counsellor, she shows her true colors and tries to stab him with an angel blade.

Bobby convinces Sam to give up, that he'll be waiting with a cold one, and Dean shanks him. There's still something to fight for, but Sam has to go into the house to do that.

Dean gets roughed up by some angels looking for Castiel, but doesn't spill the beans, not even when one drop kicks him in his pretty face.

Sam enters the house and finds death, literally.

Ezekiel hears Dean getting his tush kicked, but just as the angels think they have the upper hand Dean blasts them away with a sigil he made with his own blood. Back in Sam's room, Ezekiel is weaker than he thought, and he's unable to fix Sam. The only option Ezekiel has left to give him is possession. Dean is reluctant to accept this offer, but what choice does he really have? Dean wants proof of how bad Sam is, and Ezekiel gives it to him.

Death chit chats with Sam. He's come to collect Sam personally, but Sam needs to know something before agreeing to go. He needs to know that this will be his last hurrah, that it won't be undone. Dean does not like what he sees. Just what is Sam up to?

Cas drives the car into a wall, poor Hale, should have buckled up.

Dean struggles with this decision.

Cas looks at the damage he's caused. Hale, having been thrown from the car is pretty mangled. He tells her that he wants to help her and all the angels. But Hale tells him that angels don't want his help, but to hunt him down and kill him. She threatens to rat him out if he doesn't let her in, if he leaves her in the broken body she's in, and he stabs her with his angel blade.

Dean tries to talk Death out taking Sam, but Death leaves his fate in his own hands. Dean pleads with Sam, tells him theres no me without you, and of course Sam is willing to do whatever Dean needs him to. When he agrees to be helped, Dean turns into Ezekiel. A yes is a yes, even in deception apparently.

The hospital is getting cleaned out, and only Ezekiel remains, but he has no clue what happened. Ezekiel chats in Sam's body with Dean. There's lots of damage, and Dean debates telling Sam he's possessed by an angel. Ezekiel convinces Dean to keep that information from him, as he can be ejected, and Sam would surely die. Dean agrees to keep the information a secret until Sam is healed. Ezekiel tells Dean he'll erase all his memories so his coma time will be like it never happened.

Castiel hits a Laundromat to wash the blood from his clothes, but as he goes to put the last of his change into the machine the vending machine calls with its snacks. Cas does the logical thing and steals someone else's clothes and gets himself some water.

Sam awakens in the passenger seat. Dean tells a little white lie, and they prepare to get to work. It's a brave new world full of fallen angels, and lies that will divide when they come to light, but hey, every season has to start somewhere.
