American Horror Story- The Coven Recap: Bitchcraft

1839: Madame Delphine LaLaurie (Kathy Bates) tries to sell off her daughters to suitors and her youngest with no "marketable" skills, suggests perhaps she excels in the boudoir. Later, as  paints her face with blood, old blood, when the solution becomes apparent. Her saucy daughter shacks up with the help, and she takes him below for a different type of fun. They beat him, and mount him with a bull head, and makes herself a minotaur.

Present Day: Zoe (Taissa Farmiga) brings a boy home, tangled up in normal teenager stuff, and losing her virginity in the process when Charlie starts bleeding and convulsing. Zoe leaves on a train. After Charlie's death, her mother breaks the news that she's a witch, a genetic trait that doesn't show up in every generation. The Salem witch trials didn't involve actual witches, who were too smart for their pursuers, but once done, they made their way to New Orleans, where Zoe is forcibly taken for her protection, to go to witch school.

She enters a seemingly empty house, with doors that open and close of their own volition, and cue the creepiness we expect from AHS. With creatures running just out of her view, and figures dashing about. Finally they surrounds her, and fairly scare the poor girl. Her scarers turn out to be her housemates: Madison (Emma Roberts), Nan (Jamie Brewer) and Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe).  Cordelia (Sarah Paulson), head mistress, shows her around, and explains bloodlines, supreme witches, and controlling their powers. Powers that can be magnificent, like necromancy, but also can lead to fear by outsiders and death.

Fiona (Jessica Lange) talks with a researcher about his work, animal testing and  the experimental m47. She's desperate for a shot of vitality, but he's unable to give it to her. It's not ready for human consumption, so she does the logical thing, and gets all coked up as she watches the news. But the doctor does what she wants, and its still not enough, its not helping her, and when he threatens to turn in his resignation, she goes all Carrie on him. Using her powers, she sucks the life out of him, but his youthful vigor doesn't have a long lasting effect.

Dinner is all creeptastic, and Madison proves shes a spoiled brat as she first tortures Spalding (Denis O'Hare), before turning her attention on Zoe. Zoe isn't interest in talking about Charlie. Madison reveals what landed her there, shes telekinetic, Queenie is a walking voodoo doll, and Nan is a clairvoyant. Madison doesn't exactly get along with the other girls, and lucky Zoe is her new best friend whether she wants to be or not, and their headed to a Frat party.

Cordelia works with her plants, when Fiona arrives. It seems that Cordelia comes from supreme lines, and thinks she could do better. Mommy dearest is overbearing, and doesn't show any signs of leaving any time soon. Fiona sees it as Salem all over, and they need to be proactive in this media age. Cordelia doesn't want her help, but Fiona is insisting, and well she is the Supreme.

The Frat boys prepare to party, and the lead boy, Kyle (Evan Peters), goes over the dos and don'ts of the night. Madison arrives, and she's instantly noticed. While shes off to get a drink Kyle zeroes in on Zoe. While they make small talk, his friend chases after Madison, who stays firm in her queen bee role, and ends up with more than she bargained for as she sends him off to get her another drink. He gets her more than just a drink, and while he may have his bit of fun with his friend recording it, I'm betting this is not going to end well. Zoe goes looking for Madison, and Kyle does not like what he finds. He fights off the other frat boys, but its too late, the damage is done, they can't unrape her now. Zoe is determined to make them pay. She runs after them, but she's too late, and Madison takes matters into her own hands as she flips over the bus they try to get away in.

The frat accident is of course all over the news, but Madison of course does not want to hear anything about it. Zoe wants to tell someone about it, worried about Kyle. Fiona already knows that Madison was responsible, but very sloppy. When Madison mouths off, she slams her into a wall, and that shuts her up. Fiona tells them to dress in black, and they go for a little walk. They head to Madame LaLaurie's home and crash a tour of the house.

Madame Delphine LaLaurie stayed young with a poultice made from human pancreas. She tortured her slaves in her home, and met her own demise there as well. Taken in by the promise of a love potion, to secure her straying husband she takes it, what the slave Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett) had given her, but it was too late for Marie Laveau's lover, the minotaur, and Madame Delphine LaLaurie body was never found. Until now, looks like Nan has located something.

Zoe heads over to the hospital looking for Kyle, and instead finds the guy who raped Madison. She closes the door.

Fiona's luggage arrives, and Cordelia questions her motives, and where Zoe has been. Fiona doesn't care though, she has something more important to concentrate on.

Zoe meanwhile has coming to some realizations, the girls need each other, they have to find a way to band together and use their talents. With Kyle dead, Zoe decides to put her curse to good use, and bones his friend to death.

Fiona opens her box, and inside is a very alive Madame Delphine LaLaurie.

This show always has some seriously great casting, and the rest of the season looks pretty horrific in the way that only AHS can be. Who else is excited for the season of the witch?
