Catwoman, Selina Kyle, may not be a bat or really even in the bat family, but that doesn't stop the Joker from coming after her in the first part of this series which collects CATWOMAN #0, 13-18 and a story from YOUNG ROMANCE #1. As a part of the "Death In The Family" Arc, Catwoman finds herself in a an unlikely chess game where the stakes are high, and proves she's got hero tendencies. The Joker uses her caring heart to gain the upperhand, finding a weakness, orphans. Seeing herself in the child held captive, she allows herself to be captured.

Joker attempts to beat her into submission, all the while exposing his own weakness. He loves the bat. He doesn't want to destroy his nemesis, only make him stronger into the man he wants him to be. But that's not her bag anymore, and they part ways.

Then, Catwoman is hired to steal the Black Diamond - the source of Eclipso's power! The girl falls from bad to worse, and finds the appeal of shiny things quickly lose their appeal.

The book wraps with a little tale of how the bat and cat met, and a little break down in the aftermath of the "Death In The Family." while setting up Selina Kyle's new arc, and raising the question of who she really is.

Overall the flow of action is fantastic, especially the Joker scenes. And the character development is equally well done. Catwoman will always tow the line like a good Anti-hero does, and seeing a little bit of her tragic past not overshadowed by her rocky present is refreshing. The storyline is fun and smart, making Selina a character you root for no matter whether shes battling a demon or the Batman.
