Lost Girl Recap S1E9: Fae Day
Bo practices her sword play, nearly skewering Kenzi. She’s a
little high strung, and the fae have been looking for her, leaving messages on
Kenzi’s phone.
They head to the Dal. La Shoshain is in full swing. It’s the
one day that the light and dark fae can get together and it’s all good. Kenzi
is enjoying Fae Day, when a banshee lets out a ear piercing scream, thus
killing the festivities. Predicating a death is a real buzz kill. One of the partiers
are going to die, soon, but luckily they can narrow it down to only a handful since Banshees don't scream for everyone. Yeah for those not a part of the old families.
Trick clears out the bar of anyone not of the five families,
since they’re the only ones in danger. Dyson comes to track down the banshee,
and Bo is going to help, but first he has to check on Trick. Trick is packing
up Luanne’s items, she went into hiding, and with good reason. Luanne was the midwife at Bo’s birth, and everyone connected to Bo is in danger from something, just who the heck knows what exactly.
Dyson is tired of lying to Bo, but Trick doesn’t plan on telling her the truth
any time soon.
La Shoshain is a holy day, the fae can’t use their powers,
or feed off of humans, which is just one reason Dyson wanted to bring Bo along, since she doesn't play by the rules and is unaffiliated with either side she can do what she wants.
They catch up to the Banshee quickly.
Kenzi makes friends with a fae at the Dal and they start a
death pool.
Bo force feeds the Banshee a liver shake, apparently they
have a bad reaction to iron, and it’ll make her talk. Shawn Cavanaugh is named
the victim, and he has until sun down.
Kenzi gets schooled at a game. She gets to know her game
mate, and he tells her he’s good with money. He attracts wealth, and this makes him all the more attractive to her, because lets face it Kenzi likes shiny things, but the guy is cute to boot so its a total bonus. It’s not the
old man that’s going to die, like everyone was secretly thinking, but instead the cute guy Kenzi has been playing
with. He’s less than chipper about his impending death, and Kenzi suggests a
bucket list. I guess neither of them chose him in the death pool.
Bo and Trick discuss Banshees, looking for a way to help
Shawn. Banshee’s wails are involuntary, which is why it was ok that she wailed
on La Shoshain, they don't control the magic, it controls them. Trick give Bo a book on La Shoshain, so helpful about everything, except telling Bo about her parents. Shawn wants to reconcile
with his dark fae brother Liam, and sends Bo to retrieve him.
Bo and Dyson track down Liam quickly. She tells him
everything is forgiven, and tells him about the Banshee wail. But Liam could
care less, he’s a little bitter.
Kenzi pushes this whole bucket list thing, and pushes Shawn
towards another woman, when it seems like she would like a little chance with
him. Though when he tells her he’s never kissed a human, she blows him off. Bo
comes to find out the whole story between the brothers. Liam is a bit of a
screw-up, and Shawn tried to teach him a lesson, which horribly back fired.
Kenzi saves Shawn from nearly getting skewered by a chandelier. With just a few
hours left Kenzi takes Shawn out for a little trouble, because it's not like he's going to have to face any real consequences, he'll be dead soon either way. She takes him out to
steal a car.
Bo and Dyson sit on a stakeout, and Dyson tries to not let
Bo behind his defenses.
Shawn takes Kenzi with him to see his father for the last
time. Daddy isn’t exactly the warm type, and Shawn tells him that a banshee wailed
for him. His father is more worried about his son's will, than his son’s impending
death. It's not like Daddy needs the money, but would rather not have to clean up after his son. Or maybe he does, Kenzi notices Daddy likes the races.
Bo catches up on her history as she waits for Liam. She uses
her powers to get Liam agree to come with her, and he reveals that he put a hit
out on Shawn. He’d been waiting for his mother to die so that he could put a
hit on Shawn without breaking his mother’s heart.
A Goblin comes to attack Kenzi and Shawn. Shawn offers to
give himself over to save Kenzi, and Kenzi kisses him. Bo and Dyson get there
in time. Dyson gets punched in the throat, and Bo gets knocked around. Dyson is
finally forced to draw his gun to save the day, but its not like he wolfed out, and then convinces Bo to do
this disposal by the books, which means calling and notifying the Ash.
Liam made an unsanctioned hit on the most holy of days, both sides are going to be pretty pissed. Shawn goes after his brother with a cross-bow. Bo invokes Agallamh, which forces both sides to put aside their fight and talk. Everyone is shocked by Bo’s proclamation, because if talks fail the invoker forfeits her life. Yeah, maybe in hindsight she should have read the whole book before trying to invoke anything.
Trick is less than pleased with Bo’s invocation of
Aggallamh. She asks for Trick’s help. She sets the circles, and begins the
ceremony, starting with getting a claimor, one who will kill her if the Aggallamh
fails. Dyson takes the position. The brothers bicker, Liam unwilling to listen
to reason, and calls to an end of talks when a goblin appears, but Trick will
not allow blood spill in his house. Liam’s heart is full of hate, and while Bo
stalls for time, Kenzi runs off to hatch a plan. Bo calls a recess, and Dyson
tells Trick he could save Bo.
Kenzi heads to Daddy Cavanaugh’s home.
Trick looks over his tools, torn, as Dyson tells him the recess is over. As Bo is closing the Aggallamh, Kenzi delivers dear old dad. As he’s sworn in, she asks him why he stole the money, thus implicating his son. Liam’s life was ruined because his father let him take the fall. Seeing his error, Shawn gives up his birthright to Liam for sacrifice, Liam will repay the people he’s swindled, and Bo moves for closure. Dyson quickly seconds it.
The brothers make up, but Fate is a cruel mistress and Shawn still dies, he takes a bullet to the back, saving his brother from an angry man that lost everything because of one of his Ponzi schemes.

Poor Kenzi loses the first potential love interest. And she
takes it a little hard. I don't blame the girl, she's always so focused on Bo getting a little piece of happiness she doesn't ever grab a piece for herself.
Dyson and Trick talk Bo. Trick ask if Dyson would have killed her. And Dyson asks if he would have used his blood to save her. Which begs the question, what the heck is Trick. He's definitely more than a bar keep, he's definiely someone important, but just how important? Dyson again tells Trick that Bo deserves to know more. And they toast to the blood king, Trick, and all he’s sacrificed. Dun dun dun, so that answers one question, and leaves me with a dozen new ones.
