Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Reboot Gives the Turtles a New Alien Origin
That sick feeling you have, that was Michael Bay drop kicking your childhood in the nuts.
And what did Bay, the Childhood Dreamer Crusher have to say when he heard fan outrage over the alien origin?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will feature alien origin story
says Michael Bay. Because, you know turtles mutating into super ninjas and fighting to save the world from the evil Shredder, just wasn't original enough.
Platinum Dunes producer Michael Bay stopped by the
Nickelodeon upfront presentation in New York last week, where he revealed some
intriguing information about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, which is
being produced by Nickelodeon Movies in conjunction with Platinum Dunes and
Paramount Pictures.
Here's what Michael Bay had to say, revealing that the
Turtles will get a new Alien-based origin.
"When you see this movie, kids will believe one day
that these turtles do exist. These turtles are from an alien race, and they're
going to be tough, edgy, funny, and completely lovable."
Previous reports have indicated that this would be a
completely new re-imagining of these crime-fighting turtle characters, and an
origin story involving an alien race of turtles certainly falls in line with
that news. The flick will also be live action.
Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol writers André Nemec and
Josh Appelbaum are penning the script. Jonathan
Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles, Wrath of the Titans) is being courted to
direct. No production schedule has been given for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Also a new TMNT animated TV series is hitting Nickelodeon in
the Fall of this year.
“Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read
the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of
Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are
including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just
building a richer world.”
I'm sorry this statement does not give me any sort of hope for this new reboot. Instead of delving deeper into all the great and creative source material that has come before, Bay is chucking it all out of the window, and selling another Alien's come to Earth story line. I'm sure there will also be plenty of explosions, and weird puffy lipped models who distract from the actual story, and really serve no purpose. Just please throw Alan Tudyk in there somewhere so there will be some sort of highlight.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comes to theaters December 25th, 2013.
