Supernatural Recap S9E05: Dog Dean Afternoon

Taxidermist, who seems overly found of rodents and Game of thrones, words on his newest piece. Something goes bump in the night, and Elmer Fudd acts like a big breasted girl from a horror movie and investigates the noise, as his dog freaks oThe guy with the lizard tongue chokes the heck out of him before he goes all Bane, and breaks his back.

Sam is ready to get back on the road, but Dean is hesitant. Sam presses for the human taxidermist, turned pretzel case, and Dean cannot exactly argue. They're off to Enid, OK. The boys arrive on scene all suited up, and they divide and conquer, finding a odd symbol on the way in. Dean questions a witness, and he spills that the entrails buckets were empty, which was the only thing missing from the shop. The only witness to the crime, is the Colonel, his dog. The symbol is the for an animal rights group, SNART. The douch bag sunglass wearing group is all cocky until the boys reveal that there was a murder. They spill the beans. They tried to were "maced" hence the sunglasses when tagging up the taxidermist shop. They never saw the culprit. Mace was not the toxin, but rather snake venom Sam concludes based on their injuries.

Snake guy goes shop at the local pound. Apparently pussy cat is his menu of choice. All is going well, until the boy working the front desk sees him going all boa constrictor on the cats, and then things get messy.

The boys head off to the scene of the latest snake man scene, and they see a familiar face, the Colonel. Dean is suspicious, but the dog passes the test. The Colonel does not seem to like hats, and the boys decide he's a witness. The boys adopt the Colonel, and Sam plans to mind meld with the dog. Dean takes point instead, and bottoms up the nasty concoction and casts the spell. Theres no immediate fireworks, and Dean has nothing. It takes time, but Dean begins to hear the dog clearly, and they start arguing about music. The Colonel begins to spill about snake man, as Dean takes on some very doggy characteristics as he barks at the mailman, starts scratching and playing fetch with Sam's trash, and Jensen proves once again why he is so perfect.

So Kevin didn't tell them everything, before Dean took the plunge, and he's not sure how long with will last. Poor Dean can't even enjoy a candy bar. Dean prepares to takes the Colonel back to the pound to question the other witnesses, and learns that its not only dogs he can understand, but he's a regular Doctor Doolittle as he argues with a pigeon. Dean and the Colonel ride with their heads out the window, and the colonel gets to come inside but not before both Dean and the Colonel give some serious bedroom eyes to a poodle. The rest of the dogs prove to be no help, except for the yorkie who extorts some belly scratching from Sam for the information on Snake Boy. Dean releases all of the dogs, and the boys go to investigate the restaurant.

Chef Leo is the first suspect, who's shrugged off, but he's the snakeman! They find a drawer full of pills, and the cage of mice lead Dean to a very odd mix of animal parts. The chef is using magic and animal parts to turn himself into the perfect creature. THe boys hear a noise and goes to investigate, they find a sous chef. They claim to to be the health department and shut the place down, while  the workers go quietly, the boys split up to cover more ground on their hunt, but Chef Leo has another power they weren't aware of. Pulling a Randall, he pops out of the wall, and slices up Sam, but Sam's angel kicks in long enough to heal him, and Chef Leo decides that Sharktopus doesn't sound as delicious as unicorn, Sam gets fast tracked to main course.

Chef Leo prepares his blades, and Dog boy Dean stumbles upon him. The chef gets the upper hand on him quickly. Dean quickly realizes that the chef has cancer, and in great evil villain fashion, he spills the beans, as Dean tries to break his bonds. Chef Leo prepares the perfect concoction to kill Dean, deciding that Big Bad Wolf is the best course. But he wasn't counting on Dean's pack. The dogs run down the wolf, and the Colonel gets his revenge.

Dean goes back in and can't reach Sam or Zeke, before he resorts to licking Sam's face, Sam awakens. The Colonel gets homed with the SNART people, and its for the better. Right as the Colonel is about to reveal Dogs real purpose, the spell wears off. Leaving that as one of the unanswered questions of the universe. Sam wonders what Chef Leo meant, about what he was, and Dean tries to explain it away, digging himself in deeper, but in Sam's eyes he doesn't quite believe him. Dean's on borrowed time, its not a matter of if Sam will find out, but when, and how big the fall out will be. Poor Dean.
