Game of Thrones Recap: Lord Snow
The party finally arrives at King’s Landing, and Starks duties start immediately. In the throne room, he runs into Jaime Lannister, and he’s just as pleasant as ever. In untarnished armor he taunts Stark. Seems Stark’s brother and father met their death here, and that Jaime stabbed the former mad king in the back, gaining him no favor in Stark’s eyes. He continues on to the assembly to discuss the kingdom’s affairs, and there he learns that the crown is in debt to the Lannisters.
Cersei, the Queen tends to Joffery’s wounds, and the two discuss politics and life. She tries to make him understand that the truth can be crafted to his liking, and that after his duties are fulfilled he can have the world. The spoiled brat prince that he is does not understand tactic, or reason, and still Cersei tries to instill wisdom upon him, “everyone who isn’t us is an enemy.”
Arya and Sansa get into an argument, before Arya is sent to her room. Sansa is a spoiled, petulant child, and even still Stark tries giving her a special doll to make up for having to kill her direwolf. Poor Ned, has no clue how to deal with his daughters. He goes to Arya’s room, and finds her with her Needle. They all know that Joffery lied, and so did Sansa, but Ned makes it clear to Arya that they’re in a dangerous place, and must band together to survive. He decides that its time for her to get training.
Bran watches the crows, and listens to the stories of the White walkers, and the hard winter that killed many when his brother Rob sends away the nurse. Bran claims that he remembers nothing, and Rob doesn’t believe that he fell. Bran wishes for death, than the life of a cripple.
Catelyn Stark rides into the capital, thinking her coming is unknown when an escort comes for her. It’s Baelish’s doing. He tells her that the dagger the assassin wielded was his, but he lost it to Tyrion Lannister.
John Snow is being put to the test in training, he easily battles off his comrades in training. A raven came with a message, which holds both good and bad news.
Stark also receives a message via raven, and learns that his wife has come to King’s Landing. When Baelish brings Ned to the whorehouse, he miss understands, becoming angered until he sees his wife.
The men that Snow beat during training corner him as he puts away the weapons, Tyrion stops them, and Tyrion enlightens him on his comrades and their circumstances that brought them to the Night Watch. The Night Watch is not what Snow thought it would be and only Tyrion tried to warn him that, and now it is too late to choose otherwise.
Baelish tells them that to accuse the Queen of plotting to murder their son would be treason, and advises against it.
Cersei and Jamie discuss Bran, and get a little incestuous.
Ned sends Catelyn back home, to safety while he stays and tries to find proof that the Lannisters tried to kill Bran.
Robert discusses death, and first kills. King Robert taunts Jaime, the kingslayer, and makes him share his first kill story as well. The story is short, and the king brings up the Targaryen kings death as well. That story too is short, and Jamie leaves.
The Khalessi, Daenerys continues to learn about the Dothraki way of life, and this time, that means learning about the slaves. When she sees a slave get beaten she has the tribe stop and rest until she says otherwise. Her brother comes, raging about being commanded. A tribesmen lassos him, wanting her to teach him respect, but she chooses otherwise. She does not have him hurt, nor does she punish the man who lassoed him, and Viseys is forced to walk instead of ride.
Snow walks in the cold nothingness that is the wall to find his uncle< Benjin. His uncle is getting ready to leave on a mission, and Snow cannot follow. He tries to make him understand that he will get no favors coming in this place, everything is earned.
Tyrion has doubts about the real dangers of the wildlings, believing that the only difference is which side of the wall their ancestors ended up on, but Benji believes different, and Tyrion makes plans to return home.
Daenerys tries to learn the Dothraki language, and her maid, Irri brings to her attention that she’s pregnant. As Ser Jonah Mormont discusses the merits of armour with one of the Dothraki, upon hearing of the Khalessi’s pregnancy he’s quick to ride with the news.
Snow makes an effort to help his brother’s in arms in training. The summer has lasted the past nine years, and the upcoming winter is going to be a long one. The number of wildlings captured has increased. The old men of the Night’s Watch are concerned, there are too few men guarding the wall, too few weapons, food, and a complete lack of experience. They urge Tyrion to tell his sister the Queen, because when winter comes they will not be prepared for the onslaught of trouble it will bring.
The Khalessi is sure she will have a boy, and the Khal is pleased at the thought.
Tryion and John say their goodbyes.
Arya meets her “dance instructor” Syrio Florel, and he begins teaching her the Knight’s dance of swords. Her father looks on with pride, and foreboding.
