Nano Delivers Strong Debut In Melodifestivalen

Newcomer Nano first developed some intrigue about him when he was announced to be closing the first semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2017. As the closing slot in the running order of semi-finals is typically reserved for acts expected to do well and leave a strong impression, it was clear that something was brewing. His song, "Hold On," is one that he co-wrote and is inspired from deeply personal experiences and sends a message of overcoming one's struggles in life. The staging for his entry relies heavily on camera work, as Nano himself doesn't do much to move about on stage. Further flashiness comes in the form of dramatic lighting that's dark in the verses and brightens up in chorus. There is also a backing choir to add a bit of punch.

Whether Nano can maintain his momentum to win the entire contest remains to be seen, but his general attitude seems to be more focused on making the most of the experience and spreading his message to the people. The competitive aspect of his participation is at most, secondary. He gives off every impression of being unaccustomed to the fast pace of Melodifestivalen and the hustle and bustle of being chased for (Swedish) reporters hungry for clickbait. But we will certainly keep an eye on his numbers as the contest progresses to better gauge his chances at the final.
