The Librarians S1E3 - "And the Horns of a Dilemma" Recap

Ezekiel, Cassandra, and Jake are being chased inside a warehouse but the person chasing them is Eve. She's training them and chides them on their lack of readiness for potential fights on assignments. Jake needs to not be smarter with his moves instead of simply relying on brute force. Ezekiel bailed on his team members and Cassandra simply stayed hidden out of fear. Eve intends to drill them again tomorrow. New pages are still appearing in the library's clip book, so there's already assignments out there waiting, but Eve has refused to let them out ever since Flynn left. Jenkins warns Eve that being in harm's way is part of the job and she'll have to let them out eventually. While they debate the issue, the Potentials peek at the book and find that Henry Birch, a chemical engineer and Fulbright scholar in Boston has recently gone missing and whatever the reason, it's connected to seven other disappearances.

Though the victims were from all over, they disappeared in Boston and were all interns at Golden Axe Foods. Jenkins shows them what they've been working on; a "backdoor" that can be used as a wormhole to open as a door anywhere. Jenkins is still working out the kinks but it's certainly faster than a plane. The team begins by questioning Ms. Willis, the CEO of the company, who claims to have no idea that eight of her interns have gone missing. She's also confused as to why NATO is interested in what's happening. She sends them to look through the records at HR.

Eve is certain that Ms. Willis knows more than she's admitting so Eve says she'll check the server room and sends the Potentials to HR. When Eve reaches the "server room," she instead finds the room is full of Minoan artefacts. As for the Potentials, they find that "HR" is actually a room filled with human skulls. While Eve calls the Potentials to tell them what she has found, the Potentials realise that there's a Minotaur involved in this somehow, according to Greek mythology. They're in a labyrinth of sorts and are find themselves trapped wherever they go.

Eve calls Jenkins to say what has happened and says that he needs to figure out how to get his backdoor to open in the labyrinth to get them out. Eve then heads down into the labyrinth after the Potentials. They're eventually able to find their way to one another but they're being chased by the Minotaur. Fortunately, Jenkins is able to activate the backdoor and get them out in time. Eve is not concerned by the group, believing them to still be trapped in the labyrinth.

The team continues to do research and determine that Golden Axe Foods is drawing magic from the Minotaur and sacrificing interns in order to have good harvest and stock prices. Cassandra is let down that they won't be able to save Henry and Eve advises her that they will find justice for him. The team also realises that since the labyrinth affected their minds so the city became part of the labyrinth and the Minotaur has now taken on the appearance of a biker.

The team determines a course of action, as they must go deeper into the maze to pull the plug on it. Cassandra begins calculating some mathematics and then the team must split up. Eve and Jake will fight the Minotaur while Cassandra and Ezekiel will go back into the labyrinth. Cassandra will do more calculations to get them to the centre of the maze, and Ezekiel will steal the thread from which the maze is drawing its power. Everyone is able to do what Eve advised them to do. Jake fought smarter against the beast, Cassandra overcomes her fear, and Ezekiel bails on the team… or at least he pretends to in order to defeat Ms. Willis. Cassandra and Ezekiel unravel the thread of the labyrinth and it loses its magic.

The team is back in the annex, safe and sound, and now the thread is their first retrieved artefact. As for Ms. Willis, she will have to face the wrath of the Minotaur, a creature that is known to hold grudges. Cassandra expresses concerns to Jake, who doesn't yet trust her completely because of what she did. But he opens up to her about how he has never opened up to the people back home about his brilliant mind. Jake never trusted his loved ones with the truth about his mind but he had trusted "Cassie" but now that's gone. I wouldn't rule out these two getting something more going though.

The Librarians airs on Sundays on TNT at 8PM.
