Legit: The Complete First Season Review

“He wants to help. In the worst way” is probably the most apt tagline yet. “Legit” is as lewd as it is funny, in that awkward I cannot believe he’s doing this, way. Australian comedian Jim Jefferies plays a comedian in LA who decides that he wants to accomplish some good in his life. But Jefferies soon finds that being a better person isn’t so easy. The attempts are shocking to say the least and the results are hilarious. And since it’s no fun to fly solo on the good deed front, he enlists the help of his neurotic best friend Steve, and Steve’s wheelchair bound brother, Billy.

Jim isn’t completely altruistic, hell he’s downright selfish at times, and more often than not sexist. Even some of his efforts are borderline creepy and gross, but like all of the characters on the show he’s is multifaceted, and likeable.

DJ Qualls stands out as Billy, showing that although he's handicapped, he's just a normal guy who wants to go out and party and get laid. He's also the catalyst for more than one of the more hilarious episodes.

The tone of “Legit” is unlike anything else on television. It’s certainly raunchier than FX’s other hits “Wilfred” or “Always Sunny In Philadelphia,” but it also has a lot of heart.  If you’re easily offended, “Legit” may not be for you, but it is very funny.

The two disc DVD set contains all 13 episodes of season one, plus a handful of bonus features. There is the director’s cut of the pilot, episode commentaries, deleted scenes, gag real, Jim Jeffereies’ Journey, and Rodney Autotune.

Video: We reviewed the DVD, not the blu ray, which would have different spec. but it’s the same 16×9 friendly 1.78:1 aspect ratio it was originally broadcast in and looks great.

Audio: It’s just as crisp as when it aired. With minimal effects, there is little to be overly impressed by.

Special Features: The Pilot- It is nearly twice as long as the one aired on TV. The deleted scenes clock in at about ten minutes. My favorite is always the gag reel, and at fifteen minutes it is full of plenty of laughs.

“Legit” The Complete First Season
This outrageous new comedy stars Australian Jim Jefferies as an edgy, foul-mouthed stand-up comic living in Los Angeles, struggling to make his life and career more "legit." But every time Jim tries to do the right thing, his good deeds turn into wildly inappropriate and utterly hilarious escapades. Joined by his neurotic best friend and roommate, Steve, and Steve’s wheelchair-bound brother, Billy, Jim takes comedy to a whole new level, whether it’s visiting a Las Vegas brothel, partying with the mentally-challenged or trying to pick up women at a gay bar.
