Doctor Who S9E2 - "The Witch's Familiar" Recap

Clara's not actually dead, but that should surprise no one. She wakes up hanging upside down outside the Dalek city with Missy, who explains that they were able to escape by using the energy emitted from the Daleks' weapons to teleport themselves away through the use of vortex manipulators which they had also used to find the Doctor previously. But what this also causes is that the devices are destroyed in the process.

The Doctor forces Davros out of his wheelchair to use in to break into the room containing the Supreme Dalek is. The wheelchair generates a force-field that protects the Doctor from the Daleks firing at him. He tries to force the Daleks to return Clara to him but they still believe Clarak is dead. Sarff sneaks up on the Doctor and knocks the Doctor out.

Missy and Clara have snuck back into the city through a Dalek sewer where defective and broken down Dalek mutants are sent as they are no longer of use. Missy tricks Clara into triggering an alarm before handcuffing her to a wall to bait a Dalek. Missy then injures that Dalek so the mutant Daleks will attack it for being abandoned. Once it is destroyed, Missy tells Clara to get into the Dalek casing so they can sneak back into the main area of the city. When Clara is hooked up to the Dalek system, any declaration of her name will translate outwardly as "I am a Dalek," and any emotional sentiment will translate as "Exterminate."

The Doctor wakes in the infirmary where Davros informs him that the life-support cables surrounding them are connected to every Dalek on Skaro and it is their combined life-force that keeps Davros alive. Davros tries to goad the Doctor into destroying every Dalek by way of the cables but the Doctor won't do it. The Doctor shares how he willingly came to see Davros due to the compassion he felt for his sickness. The Doctor shares how Gallifrey was not actually destroyed and Davros congratulates him on this before seeking moral advice on whether or not he was right to create the Daleks. But it's not long before Davros' health begins to further wither. He shares how he wants to the the sun rise once more so the Doctor tries to rewire the life-support system to allow this, but it isn't enough. The Doctor releases a small bit of Time Lord regeneration power into the cables to help restore Davros' health but the Doctor finds himself trapped in Davros' scheme to get this Time Lord energy into every Dalek on Skaro.

As each Dalek grows more powerful, Missy becomes alarmed while Clara is left confused and still trapped inside the Dalek system. Hybrid creatures are created from the Daleks combined with the Time Lord energy. This was something that had been referenced in Gallifreyan mythology and Davros believes that this is the true reason that the Doctor had ran from Gallifrey. Meanwhile, Missy breaks into the room to save the Doctor and kills Sarff to do it.

The Doctor, now free from the system, tells Davros that he knew his plan the whole time and this regeneration energy also revitalised the defective Daleks in the sewer, who have now begun breaking through the city's reface and promptly begin attacking the function Daleks as vengeance. Clara in the Dalek casing tries to tell the Doctor that she is trapped inside and Missy tries to trick the Doctor into killing the Dalek in revenge, claiming that it killed Clara. All the statements are translating into "I am a Dalek" but when Clara pleads for mercy, the Doctor says that "mercy" is not a word that should be in Dalek vocabulary so he tells the Dalek to think "open" and the casing will open. Clara does this and the Doctor frees her. While pondering how it was that the Dalek had a concept of mercy, he order Missy to run. She does so and once she is cornered by some Daleks, she declares that she's just had "a very clever idea."

The Doctor summons the TARDIS with his new sonic sunglasses, as the TARDIS had used its Hostile Action Displacement System. The Doctor and Clara watch from a safe distance as the city is destroyed and the Doctor once again tries to determine how the Dalek system was able to ask for mercy. He then realises what he must do and goes back to see young Davros. Using the Dalek gun, he shoots all the hand mines surrounding the young Davros. Davros asks the Doctor which side he is fighting for in the war, and the Doctor tells him that side don't matter, so long as there is always mercy. He then takes Davros home.

Doctor Who airs on Saturdays on BBC One at 9PM.

Doctor Who S9E1 - "The Magician's Apprentice" Recap

A battle is underway in an unknown war. A boy gets trapped in a field of "handmines," which are creatures that are hands with eye that drag their victims underground. The Doctor shows up and tosses his sonic screwdriver to the boy to try to save him, but is shocked when the boy says his name is Davros (the eventual creator of the Daleks).

Some centuries later, an alien creature named Colony Sarff who serves Davros, visits various planets in search of the Doctor. Sarff even visits the headquarters of the Shadow Proclamation, an intergalactic police force, as well as the planet Karn. Sarff has a message for the Doctor, that Davros is dying and that he "knows" and "remembers." Sarff visits Davros, whose condition is worsening rapidly, and delivers the bad news that he has not found the Doctor. Davros still possesses the Doctor's sonic screwdriver, and pushes Sarff to track down the Doctor's friends in the hopes that they will be able to help track him down.

Clara is teaching her class when she notices that a plane is frozen in the sky. As is turns out, planes worldwide are frozen in place. She is summoned to the Tower of London by UNIT to try to get hold of the Doctor. She also learns that the planes haven't stopped but are frozen in time, thus no one on board can be contacted. UNIT receives a message on a channel specifically created for the Doctor to use but the message is actually from Missy.

Clara goes to meet Missy at an open-air café, who admits to freezing the planes due to her pressing need to contact the Doctor. Missy shows Clara the Doctor's confession dial, which is the Time Lord equivalent to a last will and testament. They are typically delivered on the day prior to a Time Lord's death and had been sent directly to Missy, not Clara. Missy believes that this means that the Doctor believes he only has one day to live and she is concerned for him, believing him to be her friend albeit one with whom she has an immensely complicated relationship with.

Missy and Clara track the Doctor down to Essex in the year 1138 where the Doctor has spent the last three weeks "partying," and bringing forth a number of items out of place in that time period, including an electric guitar, tank, and fish. The Doctor is reunited with Missy and Clara but then Sarff appears, having followed the women. He reveals that he is a colony creature made up of one large snake plus several smaller ones, though he normally wears a robe to take on a more humanoid appearance. Sarff threatens the safety of everyone in the arena but the Doctor shuts his threats down, prompting Sarff to deliver Davros' message and returns the sonic screwdriver.

It's revealed through flashbacks that the Doctor had abandoned Davros when he was trapped in the handmines. The Doctor feels great shame for his actions and agrees to go with Sarff as his prisoner, despite Missy and Clara's objections, though they insist on coming along as prisoners too. Bors, the medieval man with whom the Doctor had been interacting, is revealed to be a Dalek puppet and procures the Doctor's TARDIS for the Daleks.

Sarff brings the prisoners to a space station, the Doctor is brought forth to Davros. Missy tells Clara that there's something off with the gravity and it doesn't feel artificial the way it would on a space station. They step outside and find they are on a planet and the Doctor begins to figure the same thing out as them: that they are on Skaro, the home planet of the Daleks.

Missy and Clara are captured by Daleks and brought to the room where the TARDIS is being kept. The Daleks intend on destroying it and Missy offers to help the Daleks utilise it instead of destroying it but they seemingly exterminate her before doing the same to Clara, though the Doctor had pleaded for her life but Davros says he can't control them. The Doctor expresses remorse for not destroying Davros when he had the chance and the loss of his friends. Davros wants the Doctor to admit that his greatest indulgence, compassion, is wrong.

Finally, we see the Doctor once again at the handmine field and meeting young Davros, who asks if the Doctor will save him. The Doctor says he will save his friend the only way he can, "Exterminate," while aiming a Dalek gun at young Davros.

Doctor Who airs on Saturdays on BBC One at 9PM.

Doctor Who S8E12 (Series 8 Finale) - "Death In Heaven" Recap

Clara is still trapped with the Cyberman in the 3W headquarters in St. Paul's Cathedral. She attempts to  trick the Cyberman into thinking she is The Doctor.

The Doctor is still in shock over the revelation that Missy is the Master. Citizens are snapping selfies with the Cybermen when UNIT, led by Kate Stewart, arrives on scene to apprehend the Cybermen. Unfortunately, St Paul's releases 91 Cybermen. These Cybermen fly off so that one will be over each city and major town in the UK. They will explode and release Cyber pollen over the graveyards and reincarnate the dead as Cybermen.

Danny is still in the Nethersphere. He learns that everyone in the "cloud" will be released back to their decomposing bodies through the use of rainclouds. They will be upgraded to Cybermen.

UNIT knocks Missy and the Doctor out but before he passes out, The Doctor passes on the message to guard the graveyards.

Clara is unable to convince the Cyberman that she is The Doctor but she is saved by Danny, who has been reincarnated as a a Cyberman.

The Doctor is on board a protected UNIT plane and learns from Kate that he has been nominated as President of Earth. He has control of the armies on the planet but is against this. He also believes there is no way to save Earth now.

Missy escapes and kills everyone in the room, including Osgood the scientist. The Doctor confronts Missy and learns that she arranged Clara and his being together. Missy has exploded the side of the aircraft, and the plane is on its way down having been attacked by Cybermen. Clara calls him on the Tardis phone, being at a graveyard with Danny, whom she has learned is a Cyberman. Danny wants her to delete his emotions, wanting the pain to stop. Clara pleads for his help.

Missy teleports out of the plummeting plane while the Doctor has to jump out of the plane and get to falling TARDIS. He gets inside and gets to Clara and Danny in the cemetery. The Doctor tells Clara not to turn Danny's emotions off, saying he will kill her after the fact. Danny insists he will not harm Clara. Danny convinces them to delete his emotions, saying he will be able to offer insight into Missy's plans from the core Cyber hive. After his change, he says that a second rainfall is coming that will convert living humans into Cybermen too.

Missy arrives at the cemetery and gives The Doctor control of the Cyber army as a gift. The Doctor instead gives it Danny, who leads the Cyber army into the sky where they explode and stop the second rainfall. Humanity is saved. Missy gives a set of coordinates that are apparently where Gallifrey is. Clara demands that The Doctor kill Missy so she doesn't repeat what she has done. The Doctor stops Clara, needing to save her soul. The Doctor prepares to kill Missy but a rouge Cyberman does it instead. The Doctor and Clara run over and find Kate lying on the ground, still alive. The Cyberman was a conversion of Kate's father and saved her from the fall out of the plane. The Doctor bids him goodbye with a salute, something he had always hoped to get The Doctor to do when he was still a human.

With Missy's control bracelet, Danny has the option to resurrect himself but he apologetically tells Clara that it can only be used once and has to keep his promises. He sends the child that he accidentally killed through instead. Clara is sad but agrees to help the child find their home. Clara meets with the Doctor and prepares to tell the truth about about Danny not being resurrected. But before she can, The Doctor says he understands that she is back with Danny now and won't want to be flying around anymore, and claims he has found Gallifrey using Missy's coordinates. In truth, Gallifrey was not there. They both maintain their lies to protect the other one when in actuality, they are both in a great deal of pain. The Doctor and Clara say their goodbyes. Clara thanks The Doctor for making her feel special.

In a mid-credits scene, The Doctor hears a knock on the door of the Tardis. He is shocked when Santa Claus comes in and asks what he wants this year.

Doctor Who will return to BBC One in December for a Christmas special, and in 2015 for series 9.

Doctor Who S8E11 - "Dark Water" Recap

Clara rings up Danny, ready to admit everything to him about her travels with the Doctor and that she loves him. The line goes quiet and a stranger picks up the phone and tells Clara that Danny was hit by a car and is dead. She struggles to come to terms with his death and calls the Doctor, determined to have him help her change the past. In secret, she puts a plan together where she suggests they visit an active volcano, collects all seven of the TARDIS keys, and incapacitate the Doctor with a sleep-inducing patch after it has taken off.

The Doctor wakes outside the TARDIS and Clara begins to throw the keys into the lava, one by one, threatening to destroy them all if he doesn't help her rescue him. The Doctor warns her that it would create a time paradox and Clara destroys all of the keys, tearfully telling him he would do it again. The Doctor then reveals that she was only having a vision, a result of the patch she had intended to use on him. He knew something was wrong and wanted to see what it was and far she would go. He offers to take Clara to the afterlife to try to find Danny and bring him home.

The Doctor links Clara to the telepathic interface of the TARDIS in order to locate Danny. Danny has woken in an office, where is greeted by Seb. Seb tells him he's in the Nethersphere; a giant city inside a sphere where people go when they die.

The Doctor and Clara arrive at a museum containing tanks filled with human skeletons underwater. The Doctor explains that these are tombs of sort. They then meet Missy, who is putting an act as an android receptionist. She then introduces them to Dr. Chang, a scientist at the museum. Meanwhile, Seb is helping Danny to get adjusted to being dead. Danny still feels connected to his body, feeling cold, meaning his body is likely being kept in a refrigerated morgue.

The Doctor asks Dr. Chang about the skeletons not drifting apart and Chang says they are submerged in a substance called dark water, which allows organic material to be seen. These bodies are encased in a support exoskeleton. Seb has arranged a meet between Danny and a young boy Danny accidentally killed while a soldier. Danny tries to apologise but the boy runs off without saying anything to him.

The Doctor continues to ask questions about the facility. Dr. Chang says it's based on the discovery of voices of recently deceased folks in the white noise of broadcast signals but the Doctor continues to be skeptical of this. Seb and Danny are talking when Seb notices that Clara is trying to contact Danny, who doesn't know that Clara has journeyed to the Nethersphere. Clara and Danny are able to talk to each other while The Doctor leaves with Dr. Chang to further investigate the facility. The Doctor warns Clara to ask questions to Danny to ensure that it really is him.

Missy begins commanding the skeletons in the chambers to rise. First, they drain their tanks and stay standing tall. Dr. Chang tells The Doctor that Missy isn't an android, but his boss. Missy is disappointed with Chang and thus kills him. The skeletons are revealed to be Cybermen. Missy show the Doctor a spherical device named the Nethersphere, but it is actually a Gallifreyan Matrix Data Slice that holds the consciousness of the dead before inserting them into new Cybermen soldiers after their emotions are deleted. The Doctor questions Missy, trying to determine who she is. She appears to be a Time Lady, as she possesses two hearts which he had first noticed earlier. The Doctor runs outside and finds that they are still in London, inside St Paul's Cathedral.

Clara is still on the phone with Danny and promises that she will do whatever it takes to find him. Danny won't let her sacrifice herself so he gets her to end the call. Danny breaks down in tears and Seb offers him the option of deleting his emotions. Clara is still trapped in Chang's lab when she sees that a Cyberman is in there with her. The Doctor tries to warn the civilians to run away while Missy dismisses his shouting as the ramblings of a madman.

The Doctor asks Missy again who she is and she says he already knows. "Missy" is short for "Mistress," as she couldn't call herself "the Master" in her current form (what a load of sexist garbage writing that is). Danny is about to deactivate his emotions when he sees the reflection of the boy he killed in the screen's reflection.

Doctor Who airs on Saturdays on BBC One.

Doctor Who S8E10 - "In the Forest of the Night" Recap

A little girl named Maebh stumbles across the TARDIS in the middle of a forest-covered Trafalgar Square. Maebh claims something's chasing her so the Doctor lets her in. The Doctor calls up Clara and learns that Maebh is one of hers and Danny's students that had all gone together to an overnight stay at the London National History Museum. The entire world has been covered by forests in just a few hours. Danny's not happy to learn that Clara's still in touch with The Doctor but together, they lead the students to meet The Doctor in Trafalgar Square.

The Doctor thinks that the fabric of time needed to have been messed with for these trees to grow so quickly. Everyone boards the TARDIS and Danny looks through Maebh's notebooks. The Doctor is amazed to find pictures of an angry sun beaming down on trees. Clara tells The Doctor that Maebh, who is now missing again, has been put on medication to quiet the voices she began hearing after her sister Annabel disappeared a year ago. The Doctor is convinced that Maebh has a condition that allows her to be in tune to what's really happening.

The Doctor and Clara head out to find Maebh. She has been leaving a trail for them to follow of personal items. While following it, they encounter a government service team trying to burn a pathway through the forest but the trees control the oxygen so the trees can't catch fire. The Doctor says that Maebh's drawing shows a giant solar flare much like the one that destroyed the Bank Karabraxos. That event is happening presently and will strike the Earth but it doesn't explain why Maebh knows this.

Wild animals have escaped from the London Zoo, as the metal cages were torn open by the trees. The Doctor and Clara rescue Maebh from some wolves but then a tiger arrives, as it is chasing the wolves. Danny arrives in time to scare off the tiger and all of the students reunite with the group. Maebh runs again with her hands waving about and the students say this is a nervous tic she developed after her sister died. They all catch up to Maebh and she says she created the forest from a dream. The Doctor uses the sonic screwdriver to adjust the local gravity, exposing multiple glowing firefly-like creatures. They communicate through Maebh and say they have persisted throughout time and were called there by Maebh and created the forest just as they have before. They said they didn't send her after the Doctor, though.

The Doctor releases the gravity and Maebh drops to the ground. The Doctor realises the the Earth is doomed by the solar flare and he can't fight physics. Clara tells the Doctor to leave so he can save the next world. The Doctor goes off in the TARDIS but then he has an epiphany and comes right back. He has realised that these flameproof trees have saved the earth before and they have appeared now just to save the planet from the solar flare.

The problem is that the government plans to use defoliating agents to strip the leaves from the trees to they can be burnt, which means everyone will die in the flare. The children put a message together that Maebh reads over the world's cellular networks cautioning everyone to not harm the trees and pleading with her sister Annabel to come home. The Doctor offers the group the opportunity to witness the solar flare's impact from the TARDIS but Danny says he'll take the children home, while Clara goes up with The Doctor. Danny knows Clara lied to him about her travels with The Doctor but he forgives her and wants to carry on with their relationship.

The Doctor and Clara watch the flare hit the Earth, as does Missy on her tablet, noting the surprise of this turn of events and how she loves surprises. The Doctor and Clara later watch the trees all disperse from her flat and The Doctor says that humanity will forget about this just as they have before but it would linger as little more than a fairytale of sorts. When Maebh and her mother return home, a set of bushes disappears that reveal Annabel waiting.

Doctor Who airs on Saturdays on BBC One.

Doctor Who S8E9 - "Flatline" Recap

The Doctor's preparing to drop Clara off at the time and place from where he picked her up but when they exit, they find the TARDIS is half its normal size and they're in Bristol. Clara heads off to take a look around while the Doctor stays to try to figure out what's gone wrong with the TARDIS. Clara learns that people have been disappearing, after which they turn up in a mural on a pedestrian tunnel. She calls the Doctor to tell him what has happened and upon returning to the Tardis, finds it even smaller than before. The Doctor can't fit through the small external doors so she tells him to pick up the TARDIS and find whatever is doing the dimensional leaching. He hands her the psychic paper, the sonic screwdriver, and an audio/visual earpiece so he can keep in contact with her.

Clara poses as "Doctor Oswald" and befriends a local graffiti artist, Rigsy, who is on community service. The Doctor doesn't quite trust him but eventually decides he may be useful. Clara shows Rigsy the Doctor and the TARDIS to gain his trust as he's about to leave the flat of the first known missing person. They also team up with PC Forrest, a police officer.

The Doctor wants Clara to tear out the walls of the flat because the energy source may be inside them. When PC Forrest steps out of the room, Clara and Rigsy hear her scream as she is seemingly sucked into the floor. When they run out to check on her, she is gone. They find a strange mural and the Doctor determines that it is PC Forrest's nervous system. The first mural they found was a closeup of human skin of the most recent victim. Strange entities begin to move towards Clara and Rigsy. The Doctor says these creatures are two-dimensional and are experimenting on gaining an understanding of the three-dimensional world. Clara gets a call from Danny, who hears them crash through a window and escape from the creatures. She lies to Danny about being in trouble. The Doctor overhears this and determines that Clara has lied to the Doctor about Danny being okay with her travelling in the TARDIS.

Clara and Rigsy return to the tunnel where the community service group are preparing to paint over the murals. The Doctor realises that these murals are camouflage for the two-dimensional creatures. The creatures absorb one of the community service workers and then the paintings turn around to face the rest of the group. The group runs away and they take shelter in an engine repair warehouse.

The Doctor helps Clara to communicate using mathematics, to determine what and how much they are aware of the impact they are having. They find that the creatures are aware due to their repeating back the numbers of the service workers they are consuming. They take another service worker, forcing Clara and the others to escape again into a subway tunnel.

Their escape route has been flattened to two dimensions but the Doctor gives Clara a device to restore the dimensions. The creatures then emerge as three-dimensional beings, thus continuing their chase of the group. They're draining even more energy from the TARDIS. The group loses the TARDIS and it falls down a shaft onto an active railway track. The Doctor activates the TARDIS' siege mode to protect it from an oncoming train but there's no power to return it to normal.

Clara uses the sonic screwdrivers to stop a train and tries to use it to hit the creatures but the train gets turned two-dimensional instead. Clara finds the TARDIS, which now looks like a Galifreyan cube. The group is in an office space. Clara decides to pain a fake access door on the back of a large poster so the creatures will try to turn it three-dimensional, which will allow Clara to steal the energy and feed it into the TARDIS. The plan works and the Doctor is able to send the creatures back to their original dimension after the TARDIS is restored. Everyone else returns to their normal lives as well.

Doctor Who airs on Saturdays on BBC One.

Bad Education S2E6 - "Fundraiser" Recap

Fraser gives the school's remaining funds to a man claiming to be the Nigerian Minister of Finance, with the promise of massive returns on the investment. Needless to say, it is a scam and the school is left in financial ruin. The staff brainstorms how to raise funds and Professor Green implements an austerity drive, which leads to several cuts. Alfie is tasked with teaching a biology class in addition to his history class. Green plans to shut down the library, too. The heat is shut down, leading Alfie's pupils to bundle up in thick winter clothing. They are horrified to learn that they'll have to go to St. Edward's if Abbey Grove is closed.

Rosie tells Alfie she has applied for a job at a school in Soweto, saying she needs a change in her life. He implores her not to leave, saying the school needs her as does he. She tells him she has only applied and to wait and see. Green continues with the budget cuts, planning to sell all the school's books and asks Rosie and Alfie to get the kitchen staff to work for free. Green asks Alfie to stay behind and asks her to begin calling her "Mummy."

The kitchen staff walk out when they are asked to work for free, minus the one worker who has hearing aids. Rosie finds that Green has sold the food and they have nothing to serve. Alfie decides to use the dead frogs used for dissection in biology to make frogs legs dishes. Alfie's pupils present him with a small jar of money consisting of their pocket money. They want it to go towards Abbey Grove but Alfie gives it back to them, saying there must be a better way.

Fraser tells Alfie he only has two days to pay the bank back. He butters the floor to try to have a student fall, which he will record, put on the internet, and profit off of when it goes viral. He baits a student into slipping but forgets to record it.

Alfie visits Rosie, who tells him she got offered a job at Soweto. Alfie attempts to profess his feelings to her to get her to stay but he chickens out and says that he is an alcoholic. She knows he is lying and is unimpressed by the attempt. He tries to prove that he is crazy and will drink anything by consuming a glass of sea monkeys.

Alfie reaches his class and finds that Green is trying to take his television and collection of videos which she intends to sell. Alfie becomes determined to put on a fundraiser and convinces Fraser to give him permission by saying that his band can play at it. Rosie suggests they auction staff members off for labour. They struggle to get people to attend the fundraiser, though Alfie's dad does show up to spend time with Green. Alfie has Rem Dogg use his being in a wheelchair to guilt people into attending and spending money.

At the end of the day, they have only managed to raise £1,000. They decide to go ahead with the man auction as a last resort. Fraser ends up sold for £100 to Gladys, the hard-of-hearing lunch lady. Rosie becomes emotional when introducing Alfie to the man auction, saying he exemplifies what she will miss about Abbey Grove. She begins his auction by bidding £50 for him. Grayson, Chantelle, and Rosie bid for him but then Jing announces that a man she is standing with is making a bid on behalf on a mystery bidder for £25,000. Alfie is sold and Abbey Grove is saved.

Rosie tells Alfie she will not be going to South Africa and says that she needs the school. Alfie is about to kiss her but she says they made this mistake last time - kissing in front of the kids. They run off to snog elsewhere and stumble across Alfie's dad Martin hooking up with Professor Green in the bounce house. They stop long enough to tell Alfie that they are getting married. Green tries to charge Alfie and have him "hug Mummy" but her high heel punctures the bounce house and it traps her and Martin inside.

Alfie and Rosie are about to kiss but Jing interrupts to say that the anonymous bidder says he has to leave immediately otherwise the deal is off. A driver opens the door of the SUV waiting for him to get in. Rosie kisses Alfie and promises to be there when he gets back. Alfie cops a feel before getting into the car. He finds that the anonymous bidder is Pickwell. She tells him the German consult she had previously told him about died recently and left her all the gold he had stashed in Switzerland. He asks what she could possibly want him to do for £20,000. She hands him a saddle and rides around on his back.

Tune in this December for Bad Education's very first Christmas special.

Bad Education S2E3 - "The Funeral" Recap

Alfie and his pupils prank call Pickwell and when she storms off to their classroom, they are not in there. However, it is rigged so that she is covered in goop and has feathers blown onto her to make her resemble a chicken. Following the prank, Fraser announces to the staff that Pickwell has gone missing and makes it clear that "Chickengate" might have had something to do it. Her car has been found by authorities abandoned by the side of the road. Alfie then finds a suicide note from her in his teacher mail slot. In it, she blames Alfie for her jumping off the bridge, though Alfie says another name when reading it out loud.

Fraser promotes Rosie as interim head mistress while he looks for a more permanent replacement. Alfie is haunted by guilt over Pickwell's suicide and the blame she placed on him. He begins to wonder if he's being haunted by her so at the suggestion of his pupils, he decides to put on a memorial for her. Alfie is further alarmed when Rosie shows up during the planning with a hairstyle much like Pickwell's.

Alfie assists Fraser with the interviews for Pickwell's replacement. The applicants include a man who has been working in medieval-themed pornography, a woman whose name is "Gay Phistor," a man named "Mark Skid," and a man that may or may not be suffering from PTSD. Power seems to be going to Rosie's head, as her demeanour continues to become increasingly Pickwell-like. Also, Alfie is still seeing visions of Pickwell.

When Fraser announces that Pickwell's funeral is coming up, he asks to go with the attention of  appeasing his guilt. He brings Joe along. At the funeral, Alfie asks to say a few words, but upon getting up to the front, Joe points out that they are at the wrong funeral. Rosie threatens to report Fraser because of all the medieval pornography now on campus if he doesn't offer her the position permanently.

Grayson threatens Alfie and pulls him into a classroom, only to break down crying because of Pickwell's suicide. He then forces Alfie to give himself a wedgie as a cover for what they were doing together in the classroom. Alfie has another vision of Pickwell, made more frightening by the fog on the ground, which is later shown to be the result of a chemistry experiment. Joe loses his mobile phone and it's revealed to be in the casket of the man whose funeral he and Alfie mistakenly crashed.

Pickwell's memorial is underway, with all of Alfie's pupils dressed up in black and reading the various interactions they'd had with Pickwell. None are all that moving, though they all read them as if they are. Things begin to go wrong. They release some pigeons, wanting them to be like doves, but instead they end up defecating on the pupils. The wrong music begins playing, and the portrait of Pickwell is also defecated on, making her appear to have a Hitler-stache.

Alfie and Rosie make up and Rosie returns to her normal physical appearance as well as behaviour. Alfie heads into the art closet and begins making some pottery before Pickwell sneaks up behind him and reveals that she faked her death and cashed in her life insurance. She plans to visit a pen-pal in Argentina but needs a thousand pounds from Alfie first to get away. He tells her she will be missed and that Grayson was devastated. She reveals that she had also made him feel he was to blame for her death. In total, she had done this to about five people. She thanks him for the memorial, saying it was the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen. She kisses him and smacks his cheek before walking out.

Bad Education airs on Tuesdays on BBC Three.

Bad Education S2E2 - "The American" Recap

Alfie and his pupils are playing Class Wars but are interrupted by new teacher Kevin Schwimer, an American. He says that he has been tasked with taking over Alfie's class and Pickwell has merely failed to tell him so. Fraser calls an assembly to welcome Schwimer to the school. He begins listing his accomplishments including winning a gold medal for Team USA at the recent London Olympics. He also begins cracking jokes to charm the students and staff. Alfie tries to crack jokes but fails to charm people in the same way.

Alfie expresses his displeasure to Fraser about losing his class. Fraser tells him that Pickwell has threatened to report him to various child-services if he doesn't do what she says. Alfie then confronts Pickwell, saying she can't take his class away from him but she remains unmoved. She introduces him to his new form, 2J, and they are a wildly rambunctious group. He tricks Schwimer into leaving the class to aid an injured (fabricated) student. He speaks to his pupils and finds that they have grown fond of Schwimer and are impressed by his many accomplishments.

Alfie attempts to flirt with Pickwell to get his class back but when she demands sexual favours in return, he's unable to go through with it. He is upset to find that Rosie, his pupils, and even Grayson prefer Schwimer to him. Alfie embarrasses and injured himself trying to do a skateboard trick in front of his former pupils and Schwimer.

Alfie begins packing up his belongings and Jing then comes in asking to talk to him. She says that Schwimer isn't who he says he is. She finds that one of his photos of his accomplishments is poorly photoshopped and claimed to have attended Harvard in California when it is actually in Massachusetts. She tells Alfie that although he is an idiot, at least he is a kind man. They then team up and begin finding the inconsistencies in his story.

Alfie and Jing confront Schwimer at recess in front of the pupils about all the lies he has told. Jing calls him a compulsive liar and he admits he just wanted them to like him. Schwimer is dressed in armour to teach a lesson and has old-fashioned weapons. Alfie believes they are more lies and begins waving a gun around. It goes off and Joe ends up shot in the bum. Alfie fires the other gun into the air as a distress signal and ends up shooting Pickwell's hawk. He puts the guns into Schwimer's hands as Pickwell comes running over. She is distraught over the death of her bird and Rosie looks after Joe, asking Alfie what he has done. Schwimer says that he is responsible and admits his lies, saying he has a problem. He then begins changing his accent repeatedly and tells a few more lies. Pickwell threatens to rip his balls off if he ever returns to campus again. Alfie is given his pupils back and they rejoice.

The episode ends with another game of Class Wars.

Bad Education S2E1 - "Swimming Gala" Recap

Joe returns for the new term with a bowl cut performed by his father. Mitchell has gotten a tattoo of Chinese characters up his side that are his order whenever he orders takeout. Alfie comes in and has the same bowl haircut as Joe, also done by his father.

Alfie is under the impression that Rosie is now his girlfriend. With the upcoming swimming gala, Mr. Fraser decides that that they will pay homage to "Splash!" by having the gala end with a synchronised diving competition. Each teacher contributes money to a pot that will be won by whomever coaches their class to victory. Alfie then learns that Rosie is not his girlfriend and has changed her Facebook status to 'In a relationship' after having begun a relationship with a former pupil of hers, Alex, who is a girl.

Alfie has bribed his students with the promise of a trip to Nandos in order to get them to enter the synchronised diving event so he can win the cash prize. Rosie demands that her class be excused from the event and opts to have them participate in non-violent protest against Pickwell's demanding her pupils starve themselves to achieve an Olympic-level body mass. After Mitchell is injured, Alfie determines that Stephen and Joe will dive for his class.

The swimming gala begins and Pickwell's swimmer's sweep the various events while Rosie's class is indeed boycotting the events. When it's time for the synchronised diving event, Pickwell gets a zero when her partner passes out from starvation and falls far before Pickwell. They earn a zero. Alfie gives Joe a pep talk, as he is self-conscious about his body. Stephen's ankle is injured and Alfie opts to dive with Joe, despite having a strong chlorine allergy. Alfie and Joe score low but still gets them a victory. Alfie's eyes swell up to the point of hardly being able to see. Grayson steals his clothes and towel after he showers. He then pushes Alfie out into the lobby where he encounters Rosie and Alex, along with the rest of the pupils and stuff.

Alfie then brings his pupils to Nandos where he has to buy three beers per person as part of his escalating bribes for their participation.

Bad Education S1E6 (Finale) - "Politics" Recap

Alfie's pupils gather around to watch and make fun of a video of him singing when he was 16. He can't take it down because he forgot his password. Another student named David Millbeck comes in to try to get the students to vote for him in the upcoming student election. Mitchell then pulls up a video of a man "singing with his nut sack." Alfie sends it to Fraser, who loves Peter Gabriel, who then accidentally displays it on a screen in front of several more students. Grayson films and posts it. It goes viral and Fraser is suspended from his position.

Pickwell decides to take over the school. She has already expelled a student after planting marijuana in his locker because his parents were wanting compensation after a javelin accident. Alfie and Rosie become competitive towards one another regarding the student election. David is Rosie's candidate so Alfie decides to have Joe run to utilise the sympathy vote. "Everybody loves a chubby virgin." He delegates tasks to his pupils to help Joe's campaign.

Alfie meets with Fraser and agrees to try to help him get his position back. Through some strategic work, David's brother Edmund becomes her class candidate instead of David. Rosie is further perturbed when she sees Pickwell trying to get the tree she planted in the school garden in memoriam of her brother cut down. Mitchell and Rem Dogg end up hacking the FBI's database instead of their given task and as a prank, put Alfie on the Most Wanted list before spotting a man that appears to be the school's P.E. teacher.

The speeches have begun and Alfie introduces Joe before giving him a speech he wrote for him himself. This speech ends up being little more than a message to Rosie expressing displeasure at her treatment of him. Rosie gets up to speak instead of her class candidate and tells Alfie he should be more of a real teacher. They bicker in front of the entire student body and Rosie then threatens Pickwell, telling her not to touch her tree.

Alfie and Rosie are called to Fraser's probationary hearing and Pickwell assures them they will lose their jobs once she is headmaster. Alfie speaks in favour of Fraser and ends up highly amused by the fact that Fraser's actual first name is Shaquille. He then says that Fraser loves the school and would do anything for it. The committee asks Alfie to say even one thing Fraser has accomplished as headmaster and is unable to provide anything useful. It's then Rosie's turn to go in.

Jing shows up and brings Alfie the school's accounts, which show that Pickwell has been stealing money from the school's funds. When Alfie confronts Pickwell with the paper, she tears it up, chews it, and spits it out at Alfie. Ying tells Alfie in Chinese that there are no copies, but Alfie threatens to expose her if she doesn't speak in favour of Fraser and rig the school election in favour of Ben, a candidate dressed up as Spiderman.

The school celebrates with a dance party and Fraser is drunkenly elated to have his job back, having spiked the punch. Chantelle coaches Jing on how to get the attention of David. A slightly intoxicated Rosie snogs Alfie and Mitchell then plays Alfie's horrible song over the speakers.

Bad Education will return on BBC for Series 2.

Bad Education S1E5 - "Football Match" Recap

Fraser comes into Alfie's class to tell them about the upcoming football match between Abbey Grove and Middleton House, the school Alfie attended. He wants Alfie to manage Abbey Grove's team since the gym teacher is currently unavailable and Alfie agrees to do so. Alfie decides to have his pupils be the team after the actual football team, both first and second, ostracises him. They're largely hesitant. Stephen offers up his services but Alfie tells him not to be silly. Grayson comes in and says he wants to be on the team to beat up people from the other school. In the end, his pupils only agree to join the team after he records an embarrassing and inappropriate outgoing message for his phone.

Mistress Pickwell summons Rosie to her office. She's wearing strangely, clownish, overdone makeup. She asks Rosie how attractive she thinks she is because she's heard that Middleton House is looking for a new Deputy Head and wants to be transferred. Rosie lies and says that her make-up is subtle.

The charters from Middleton House arrive and Alfie ends up bullied by the team's coach. There's a bit of a scene in front of Rosie and she's horrified by the outright bullying. Alfie tells her there was a bit of an incident in second year and she assumes he means that the coach molested him. Fraser shows up with cornrows in his hair to try to help make the school seem like it's part of a "thug life."

Pickwell is trying to impress the coach so she can get a job there instead.

The game begins and Alfie is forced to be the goalie since they're one player short. Middleton quickly gets the lead: 6-0. During half time, Alfie is horrified to learn there is a second half. Rosie pulls Alfie out into the hall to give him a pep talk, saying what happened to him wasn't his fault. He returns to the locker room and rallies his pupils into fighting. Since Remmington is injured, Stephen asks if he can play and Alfie agrees. Stephen proves to be an incredible football player and gives Abbey Grove its first goal. With Stephen's help and the team's being inspired to perform better, the game is now tied at 6-6.

Humpitch, Middleton's coach becomes furious and attempts to play in the game against Alfie. Alfie has visions of Humpitch taunting him for quitting. He collapses and an ambulance is called. He apologises to Alfie, saying he only ever wanted the best for him, and Rosie unleashes her temper on him, still believing he molested Alfie. When she calls Humpitch a rapist, Alfie then tells her she has misunderstood and that he quit Humpitch's sports team. It turns out Alfie was an Irish dancer and Humpitch is furious over the fact that he was talented enough to have gone pro. Humpitch asks Alfie to do it one more time. After some hesitation, Alfie shows his dance moves and the game is called as a draw.

Bad Education airs on Tuesdays on BBC Three.

Bad Education S1E3 - "Self Defence" Recap

Alfie has his pupils stand on his desk and say "Oh Captain, my Captain" right as Rosie comes in to tell him about a staff meeting. Fraser tells them he misunderstood a rule about religious symbols and that he'll have to return some pieces he took from students. Rosie tells the staff about a news story regarding a video game called "Tokyo Sin SS" in which children play ninjas that hunt down and murder Nazi prostitutes. It's apparently causing an increase in violence since the children are mimicking the moves. They discuss whether they should ban the game and Fraser suggests that they play it to better understand how to keep kids from being addicted to it.

Alfie returns to his class and finds most of his pupils half-asleep after playing Tokyo Sin. He asks them to bring weapons to lunch to turn in to the Weapons Amnesty event that Rosie will be putting on. The elder art teacher Mrs. Mollinson becomes addicted to the violence of Tokyo Sin. Alfie is annoyed by Ron, the man in charge of the weapons amnesty bin but is forced to back down because he is a police officer. Alfie's students arrive to submit their versions of weapons, such as fingernails, books (knowledge is power), milk (lactose-intolerance), and prove to be little help for the event.

Grayson throws macaroni and cheese on Stephen upon learning of his lactose-intolerance. Stephen responds with a powerfully fierce dance-spin-kick to his face. A food-fight/brawl breaks out, which proves to be bad publicity for the school. Fraser is busy confiscating make-shift ninja masks that several students have been wearing. He proposes they have a self-defence course for the students and Rosie suggests Ron be the one to teach it, much to the displeasure of Alfie.

Alfie tries to tell his pupils they should turn the other cheek when confronted with violence. Fraser calls Alfie out to introduce him to Preet, a man from his gym who will be teaching a course on self-defence. He proves to be wildly inappropriate and rather crazed in his methods. Headmistress Pickwell begins playing Tokyo Sin and becomes addicted to it.

Preet has Alfie be his partner in his demonstration and continues to inflict bodily harm on him, including grabbing onto his bollocks, beating him with a baton, and attempts to tase him before Alfie gets the taser and uses it on Preet himself. Preet ends up arrested by Ron.

Alfie heads to the staff lounge and finds Pickwell wearing a makeshift ninja mask, still playing the game. She hisses at him before he turns the game off and takes the controller from her hands, though she continues her movements as if she is playing the game. Alfie tries to give Joe a copy of the game since he was the only one without it but Joe then tells him the new trendy game is one called Murder Blade.

Bad Education S1E2 - "Sex Education" Recap

Alfie vandalises a bathroom stall in the ladies' room while Joe stands guard. Joe warns him that Pickwell is coming so they hide in a stall. Joe accidentally bangs the wall but Alfie gets him to make a high-pitched noise to cover for them. Pickwell sees the vandalisation: "Pickwells got a wang" and calls it pathetic before using a marker to add the missing apostrophe.

They encounter Grayson in the hallway, who snaps a photo of them leaving the ladies' room. He agrees to do so if they do him a favour, so Alfie buys him a bottle of booze. Abbey Grove is preparing for a French exchange and the parents have come to express their concerns. The previous year, Jean Claude the exchange student had wreaked some sexual havoc. Rosie proposes that they teach some classes on sex education.

Each teacher teaches their pupils in their own way, with Rosie teaching a thorough curriculum, Alfie remaining clueless about how to teach it, Mrs. Mollinson shows a video of dogs having sex, and Pickwell reads passages from the Bible. Joe is unhappy, saying he doesn't want to go to France.

Alfie does some research on how to better teach the information on sex education when Rosie comes in and tells him he should examine his own body and know it well. Fraser becomes embarrassed when the librarian hands him a book on premature ejaculation that he had asked her to order off of Amazon.

Alfie tells his class he needs one of them to pretend to be gay to make him look like a teacher whose sex-ed class inspired a student to come out. He asks Joe to do it, saying he'll get him out of going to France if he does so.

The bus with the French exchange students arrive but the teachers then realise that the students are coming from Holland and Fraser messed up the name of the town, despite his being a geography teacher. The large majority of them end up being attractive blondes, with even Rosie looking charmed by their appeal.

Alfie approaches Fraser to tell him he can't go to Holland. He claims that his struggling with his sexuality will be a bad combination with the marijuana and Red Light district of the country. Fraser says he needs to find another pupil, and Alfie claims that Grayson (the school bully) is interested in the culture. Alfie gloats to Grayson that he will be going to the farm in Holland.

Students and parents have gathered around to hear about the school's sex education classes. Alfie comes in and begins rambling about getting to know his penis before asking students to share, honing in on Joe. Joe backs out and then an attractive Dutch student declares that sex is about enjoying oneself. Things get out of control, with people asking what a "glitorish" is. Joe is pressured to come out as gay but he becomes angry and takes it back, saying "Alfie made me be gay before him." Things continue to escalate, with people beginning to ask Alfie about his last sexual experience and eventually he admits he has never had sex. He had a long-term girlfriend, wanted to save himself, and then it never happened. Both Rosie and Chantel look charmed by his admission.

Afterwards, Rosie commends him for helping the students to understand that it's good not to rush things. Fraser tells him people are demanding he be fired but there is a solution that will allow him to get away for a while without having to actually lose his job. Alfie is sent to Holland and ends up next to Grayson on the coach.

Bad Education S1E1 - "Parents' Evening" Recap

Alfie Vickers arrives to his class hungover and one of his pupils Joe, is teased by his peers when he accidentally calls Alfie "dad." He also fends off another pass from Chantel, another of his pupils. Headmistress Pickwell comes in and asks for his mock exams' papers. She summons him to her office and tells him he needs to give her the results before Parents' Evening. He says he has all the answers in his head and when she begins listing names, he answers "A" to each. She tells him off and warns him he is skating on very thin ice. If he doesn't turn in the papers by 5, they will all fail.

Alfie puts his post into Rosie Gulliver's post hole so he'll talk to her. Rose is the school's biology teacher, whom Alfie also fancies. Alfie tries to put the moves on her and she's not interested in it since her boyfriend just broke up with her. She tells him she doesn't want to date at the moment and would rather throw herself into her job and charity work.

Alfie announces to his class that they will be playing "Class Wars" to learn about Pearl Harbour. He also is forced to tell them that they'll likely all fail their mock exams. School bully Frank Grayson encounters Alfie in the hallway and steals his trainers. Following the theft, Alfie is pulled into Simon Fraser's office. Fraser is the Headmaster at Abbey Grove and tells Alfie that he fancies Rosie. He wants Alfie to be his wingman and coach him on how to get Rosie to go on a date with him. Alfie tells him he should completely ignore her because "womyn love that."

Alfie tries to ask Rosie out again but she tells him he isn't mature enough for her. His moping in class leads his pupils to tell him off and get over it. He then decides to have them all grade each other's mock exams, suing the "pass to the left" method.

Rosie wants to give a speech at Parents' Evening on Palmer's syndrome and Alfie pretends to know about the condition to impress Rosie. He also claims that Joe's mother suffers from the condition.Fraser is annoyed at first, thinking Alfie is trying to cockblock him, but Alfie claims he is only trying to demonstrate how unsuitable of a match he is in comparison to him.

Rosie comes to visit Alfie's class and he has Joe hide in the cupboard before she comes in. She wants to get Joe's mum involved in the campaign and asks to speak to him but Alfie claims that he is sick. After she leaves, Alfie asks Joe to pretend that his mum has a potentially fatal disease so Rosie will go on a date with him and the kind-hearted Joe agrees to do so.

Headmistress Pickwell tells Alfie all his students have failed their mock exams because they graded each others' papers instead of him. During Parents' Evening, Alfie delivers this news to Chantel's mum, who attempts to give him a happy ending with her foot under the table. Pickwell comes over to taunt Alfie about his students' failures. He insists that his students have other talents and begins listing bizarre factoids about them before saying he believes in them.

Joe tells Alfie he thinks the lie has gotten out of control and he accidentally told her that his mum is dead. Fraser calls Rosie up to talk about Palmer's syndrome and she begins her speech, eventually transitioning into talking about Joe's mum, Emma Poulter. Mrs. Poulter then comes forward and identifies herself, very much alive and free from the syndrome.

Mistress Pickwell tries to pull Alfie into her office but Joe steps up and says it's his fault and that he just wanted to show off to him, saying he's the dad he never had. It's then that Joe's real dad comes forward and questions that sentiment and the attempt to smooth things over fall on its face.

Joe comforts Alfie later by offering to shove dog excrements with him into Pickwell's mail slot.
