Krypton S01E10 "The Phantom Zone" Recap

Kandor's protective dome has been disabled, which allows Brainiac to summon his ship and begin collecting the city. Zod and Lyta tell Seg to bring them to the Fortress of Solitude. Seg reluctantly agrees, as Zod reveals that Vale is still alive, having been trapped in the Phantom Zone all this time. Zod re-enters the Phantom Zone and is able to retrieve Val, reuniting Seg with his grandfather after all these years.

When the group informs Val of their predicament, he explains that there is no way for them to stop Brainiac's victory. Val also doesn't trust Zod, but is reluctantly accepting of the situation the team finds themselves in involving working with Zod for the time being.

Jax informs Nyssa that she is actually a clone of the original Nyssa and was created using a form immortality for Kandor's elite that was created using Jax's codex technology.

Zod offers up Val and his future knowledge to Brainiac in a trade to spare Kandor from destruction. After Brainiac uses his powers to determine that Zod is honest about this offer, he agrees. Seg is desperate to save Val, who thinks that the only way to stop Brainiac from using his knowledge is for him to die. Val points out that if Brainiac is able to capture him, the entire universe will suffer the same fate as Kandor.

Zod brings Brainiac to the Fortress of Solitude, where Seg threatens to kill Val if Brainiac comes any closer. But Brainiac knows that Seg would never kill his grandfather and also knows that the vision of Val he is watching is just a hologram. But this was all part of a rouse to get Brainiac to a precise location to be sucked into the Phantom Zone. However, Brainiac manages to pull Seg into it with him at the last second using his tentacles. Val tries to keep Seg from getting sucked in but isn't strong enough to save him. All the while, Superman's cape begins to be restored, prompting Seg to allow himself to be pulled in while Vale watches horrified. Kandor is saved from Brainiac's ship and the protective dome is restored.

The restored Superman cape is revealed to now have Zod's crest on it, and Zod destroys the Phantom Zone gateway to prevent the return of Brainiac but also to ensure that the new timelines stays as is. A month later, Zod manages seize control of Kandor as its new ruler along with other Kryptonian city-states. Meanwhile, Val continues to work to repair the gateway to get Seg back from the Phantom Zone and is reunited with Jax. Adam is revealed to be in the altered version of the future, where he sees a giant statue of Zod in the immobilised city on Earth he was transported to. Finally, Doomsday is shown to have awoken and smashed his way out of the container he was kept in.

Krypton will return to Syfy for season 2.

Krypton S01E09 "Hope" Recap

Zod and Lyta resume their affair while they try to find a way to defeat Brainiac. Lyta clashes with her mother once more when she agrees with Zod's plan to use Doomsday against Brainiac while Jayna and Seg disagree with this plan. Jayna finally agrees with Lyta's more compassionate approach and philosophy to life but now Lyta feels more hardened to make the hard choices to do what's necessary.

Jax-Ur, Val's former protégée, beats Daron to interrogate him for the answers she is after. Daron later escapes but crashes his ship due to an electrical implant Jax-Ur had installed which she activates upon learning of his escape.

Seg refuses to use his blood to help Zod open the vault that contains Doomsday. Zod has already deduced that Seg is his father, making him both a Zod and an El. This means that he only requires his own blood to open the vault. However, it is already empty by the time he opens it since Seg and the followers of Cythonna have moved Doomsday's body. Further tension is escalated when it's revealed that the container holding Doomsday's body has been damaged and it's only a matter of time before Doomsday escapes.

The tension in the Zod-clan comes to a boiling point when Zod challenges Jayna to a Kandorian duel to the death, which she accepts. The fight is brutal and Lyta watches, horrified. Jayna gets Zod into a chokehold but Lyta shoots a non-lethal shot to stop the fight, angering both Zod and Jayna who escapes while Lyta and Zod argue. Some time later, Zod claims to Lyta that Val-El didn't really die, while Jayna collapses in the tunnels due to her injuries and is approached by an unknown figure. However, that figure is revealed to be her brother, who was long thought to be dead.

Seg and Nyssa are able to convince Black Zero and the remaining Sagitari to work together in a coordinated attack against Brainiac. Unfortunately, their attack fails. Although Nyssa is able to stop Brainiac from killing Seg by destroying the Voice's body, Brainiac himself survives by manifesting into its own entity in Kandor.

Krypton S01E08 "Savage Night" Recap

Seg and the rest of his team learn that Brainiac goes into a sort of deep trance by draining life force from the Genesis Chamber which contains all the future embryos of the people's planet. They decide that this is their best chance to attack him since there's no other time they know of where he could potentially be vulnerable. Lyta determines that she needs to go find Dev, whom she left for dead, since he was neurally connected to Brainiac.

Brainiac informs Daron that once he has gotten what he wants from Candor, he will leave and Daron will be free to rule and have the power he so desperately wants.

Lyta returns to where she had left Dev for dead and discovers that he is still alive. He begs her to help him before collapsing in the snow. Seg and Nyssa help her load Dev back into their ship, all the while being watched by a hooded figure. They then bring Dev back to be tended to by Val at the Fortress of Solitude.

Zod brings Jayna to meet Jax-Ur, the leader of Black Zero, whom they need to agree to help so they can successfully execute their plan against Brainiac. They tell her about the threat Brainiac poses and she agrees to help them gain access to the Genesis Chamber but in exchange she wants Daron delivered to her. When Nyssa learns of this, even she agrees that this is what needs to be done.

Kem refuses to let Adam near Zod or Seg so Adam decides to get himself captured by guards in order to be brought before Daron to warn him of the impending attack that is being planned against Brainiac. In exchange for this information, he only wants Seg delivered to him so he can transport him out of Candor safely before it is taken.

Val is able to free Dev from Brainiac's control and hack the Sagitari network after patching up his injured arm. Zod tells Jayna more about the origins of Superman and how the yellow sun was what gave him his super abilities. Zod also shares how he was able to survive the destruction of the planet because Jor-El had put him in the Phantom Zone as punishment for attempting a coup.

Daron tries to warn the Voice of Rao in the Genesis Chamber about the impending attack. Seg and his team have infiltrated the building and fight their way past the guards. Jayna is able to inflict a mortal injury to the Voice of Rao but Brainiac remains unharmed and escapes in the Voice's damaged body. Daron is turned over to Jax-Ur, who agrees to let Zod keep using Black Zero until he can confirm that the Voice of Rao is dead.

Jayna speaks to Seg about what Zod has told him and how she suspects that Zod wants to conquer Krypton.

Brainiac sends Ona to Seg as a suicide bomb, but Adam manages to save Seg and Kem using his Zeta Beam device. Adam is then teleported to an unknown location where a mysterious woman stands eerily motionless until only her eyes move to look at him.

Krypton S01E07 "Transformation" Recap

The infected Voice of Rao uses his tentacles to penetrate the skulls of his attackers and enslave them to his bidding. Only Jayna is able to escape the room and the brainwashing. Daron is brought to the Voice of Rao and forced to admit his complicity in the plot to take him out, as the Voice has now fully succumbed to Brainiac. The only way that Daron's life will be spared is if Nyssa is executed with the other conspirators.

Seg and Lyta bring an injured Zod to Kem's bar. They intend to call for medical care to help patch Zod up but Kem tells them they can't use their communications device since they're all being monitored after the coup attempt. Kem informs them of both Jayna and Nyssa being said to be involved with the crime, and that Nyssa has been placed under house arrest.

Lem finds someone to help tend to Zod's wounds while Lyta tries to form a plan to rescue Jayna. Seg doesn't want Nyssa to die either, since she helped him while he was grieving the loss of his parents. Daron visits Nyssa with the intention of killing her but she outsmarts him by using a hologram projection of herself and sneaking up on him from behind in order to put a knife to his throat to maintain the upper hand. Seg arrives and helps Nyssa to escape after he shares information about the Voice and his possession. Nyssa wanted to kill Daron but Seg talks her down, saying he's right about the fact that they will need to use him in order to get past the guards. But when he tries to call for help, they knock him out and fight off the guards that come into the room. This finally gives Seg and Nyssa their open window to escape the palace by wearing the guard uniforms.

Adam is at the Fortress talking with the Val projection, expressing the sentiment of wanting to return home. After talking through his different options, he decides the best course of action is to kill Dru-Zod and stop Seg from saving Kandor.

Dev has also survived the coup and finds Lyta, ready to help her in her search for Jayna. Together they are abel to track down Jayna, who finally tells Lyta how she had joined the coup in order to save Lyta's life. Dev is also revealed to have been brainwashed and enslaved by Brainiac and tells them the Zods must join Brainiac or die. Lyts shoots off Dev's arm and leaves him for dead in the snowstorm.

Seg, Nyssa, and the Zods orchestrate a plan to stage an assassination attempt on Brainiac while he is in public in front of the people. They know that their attempt will not be able to actually kill or even harm him but they hope that by revealing that the Voice is now taken over by an alien entity that it will cause the citizens of Kandor to rally together against him. However, the plan backfires when Brainiac unleashes a fiery display of his power that he manipulates to appear in a manner that resembles Rao, the deity the people worship.

Krypton S01E06 "Civil Wars" Recap

Daron and Nyssa conspire with Jayna on their scheme to assassinate the Voice. Jayna decides to recruit Dev-Em to their conspiracy, despite Daron and Nyssa's initial skepticism about whether he can be trusted to their cause. Dev-Em agrees to back her with whatever she asks of him.

Dru-Zod explains that Brainiac didn't travel through time to destroy Krypton but it was always part of the history that leads to Krypton's eventual demise. Seg feels betrayed since Adam had never told him that Krypton would eventually be destroyed. Adam knows that General Zod is Superman's greatest enemy and implores Seg and Lyta not to trust Zod but Seg tells Lyta to cuff both of them until they can both explain their side of things. Seg confronts Adam about keeping secret further details about the end of Krypton and the lone survivors being General Zod and Superman. Adam now believes that Brainiac should be allowed to take the core of the planet which will lead to Krypton's eventual destruction in order to maintain the timeline but Seg can't fathom the idea of leaving Krypton to stay on a path to demise.

Seg and Lyta decide to free General Zod and head to the vault. Seg learns more about why Zod disapproves of Superman and Zod explains that they are enemies because Superman turned his back on his heritage but also says he never took pleasure in their being enemies. God also says that he was good friends with Seg's son.

A convicted terrorist bomber is released in order to be a scapegoat for the pending attack on the Voice of Rao. Unfortunately, one of the soldiers that serves under Jayna grows suspicious of certain aspect involved in the plot and Jayna is forced to kill him.

Seg and Zod use their co-mingled blood to open the vault, prompting a horrified Adam to explain that the weapon they have found inside is Doomsday, a practically unstoppable humanoid killing machine created long by the Els and the Zods that will destroy whatever gets in its path. They ultimately decide not to release Doomsday but Seg still decides to cut ties with Adam.

The Voice commands Dev to open the Nova Cycle ceremony to the public. Jayna and Daron forbid him from aborting the plot which prompts Dev to evacuate the ceremony and escort the Voice back to his chambers. It's there that various Sagitari are prepared to kill him but the Voice, having been possessed by Brainiac, lashes out with destructive tentacles to fight them off.

Krypton S01E05 "House of Zod" Recap

Seg strugles to find shelter and a communications device to call for help in getting him back home. He discovers a woman, Raika, who promises to bring him to safety if he frees her. She guides him to a value which bears a symbol that combines the crests of houses Zod and El. While Raika has fallen unconscious, the people that Seg meets are alarmed when they learn that Seg is an El and keep their weapons on him.

Daron is enraged to learn that Nyssa has tried to help Lyta and thus exposed their plans to Jayna because Seg wanted her to, despite her claims to have done it to future their plans.

In flashbacks, Jayna is revealed to have had to leave her brother for dead out in the freezing cold as part of her rigorous training to become a great military leader. In the present, Jayna signals to Nyssa that she will cooperate just as Lyta is about to be killed. Daron stays the execution by claiming that Kol-Da has recanted, while in secret viewers learn that he and Kol-Da are lovers. Lyta is shocked and overjoyed to learn that her mother saved her and while Jayna refrains from telling her the details, she says that she loves Lyta but Lyta has also brought dishonor to the House of Zod.

In secret, Kol-Da is killed by unknown parties after the stayed execution of Lyta. Daron orders a full investigation into her death but in a private conversation with Nyssa it's revealed that he was the one that ordered her death as a sacrifice necessary to their larger plan.

Seg learns that the people he has met are exiled believers of the ice goddess Cythonna, and they have guarded this sacred vault for generations. He is able to escape once more but his respirator begins to fail to the point of his oxygen level being completely depleted. He decides to use what's left of the batteries to power his comm device, which he uses to call Adam in the hopes that Lyta can find him.

Ultimately, it is the Commander who finds Seg out in the snowstorm, very near death. He takes him back to the base and explains to Seg after he is well enough to talk that the vault is what holds the key to stopping Brainiac and saving Krypton. Adam and Lyta arrive in order to rescue Seg, after Seg played her a message in which he confessed his love for her (while the entire conversation was overheard by Nyssa). While Seg makes his escape with Adam, Lyta stays to fight the Commander alone. After they battle a bit, the Commander then reveals that he is actually her son, Dru-Zod.

Krypton S01E04 "The Word of Rao" Recap

A new figure emerges called The Commander, who is in the scene of Black Zero and is ordering his men to find Seg.

The failed Initiative to find members of Black Zero has caused discontent among the people. The Voice of Rao requires a scapegoat to appease public opinion and orders Vex to arrest someone of high authority. This leads to Lyta being arrested on charges of treason. When Kem informs Seg of Lyta's arrest, Seg asks Nyssa to save Lyta and admits that he loves her.

The Commander is well aware of the impending threat of Brainiac coming for Krypton but still has his soldiers capture Seg because he needs to dissect the sentry before it is able to find a new host.

Nyssa visits Lyta in her cell to gather information on what happened in the Narrows and realises that her father falsified evidence in the case against Lyta. This jeopardizes the plot they have to overthrow Rao. But Nyssa is able to leverage the situation to her advantage. She visits Jayna and says that if she supports their coup, she and Daron will save Lyta from certain death. Jayna is reluctant to accept this offer as it would compromise her honour, though she also wants to save the daughter that she loves.

Since Seg isn't around to help with the situation, Kem has to break the bad news to Rhom's daughter Ona that Rhom is dying. While the Voice of Rao is visiting the Narrows, Ona decides to give him a statuette of himself to try to save her mother and he offers her the opportunity to become one of his disciples.

At the Fortress, Rhom's last words are to stop Ona, as it's revealed that the statuette contains another sentry of Brainiac's, which proceeds to infect the Voice of Rao.

Seg is finally able to escape his captors but must now face the endless storms of the Badlands.

Krypton S01E03 "The Rankless Initiative" Recap

The Val hologram is connected to the Fortress system and is able to scan Brainiac's probe, informing Seg and Adam that it has carried a sentry to infect a host on Krypton. When they open the probe they find that the sentry has already been released. Three days earlier, the probe was sent out and landed on Krypton.

Seg and Adam set out to search for the probe. While on their respective tasks to find it, Seg confronts Lyta about her recent combat and is more understanding of her killing someone when she explains why she felt the need to take command. The probe was found by a woman named Rhom looking to make money to feed her daughter so she sells it to a merchant on the black market.

The Sagitari are beginning their task of processing the tankless in order to search for Black Zero agents. Lyta orders the members of her squadron to not use excessive force while they begin their work.

Adam discovers the sentry probe and steals it back to bring it back to Seg and Kem. However, the sentry is already gone from inside and has infected Rhom. As the Sagitari have already begun their processing, an infected Rhom begins to attack soldiers after they separate her from her daughter and the infection kicks in within her. While Kem hides Rhom's daughter to keep her safe, Rhom begins killing soldiers.

The Sagitari disregard Lyta's orders and excessive force is used to coerce information about the dead soldiers. Officer Kol-Da kills an unarmed man and Lyta reacts by arresting her. Seg is able to use a shock grenade from Lyta to take down Rhom, who has been fully infected to the point of being unable to be saved or cured. She has been gathering data about Krypton and transmitting it to Brainiac.

Later Seg tells Lyta about Val being right about his theories regarding their not being along in the universe and there being a threat coming for their planet. They agree to work together to defend Krypton without the Council getting in the way of them. Rhom is still barely alive following the shock she was subjected to but Val scans her and determines that Brainiac's modifications are what's keeping her alive. Now she is serving as a tracker that Brainiac is using to come to Krypton.

Krypton S01E02 "House of El" Recap

Despite Adam's warnings, Seg begins to plot a course for vengeance against Daron. Later, Daron tells Seg about the heretical belief Val had in life existing far beyond Krypton, claiming that there was a force consuming planets. This convinces Seg that Adam's warnings are in fact, true. Seg convinces Daron to allow him to resume Val's earlier scientific research with the Science Guild. Seg takes a Science Guild tablet to Adam and Kem to be examined. He demands that Adam prove within two hours that Val's research really did verify the claims Adam has been making.

Things remain tense between Lyta and her mother, after Jayna had killed Seg's parents. Lyta proceeds to challenge her commander Quex-Ul to combat for the right to lead their squad. Her mother warns her doing so is dangerous but Lyta won't be swayed. The Military Guild had been preparing to purge the slums to hunt down Black Zero terrorists and this is something Lyta can't stand by without trying to change. They must fight to the death. Jayna is alarmed by the prospect of losing her daughter but when the time comes, Lyta is able to beat and kill Quex-Ul in combat which promotes her to take command of the squadron.

Upon searching through the tablet, the data doesn't match the Adam's claims about a world-eater. Seg resumes his course for vengeance against Daron. He retrieves a weapons to hide up his sleeve in order to kill Daron. On the way there, he encounters Nyssa who gifts him with the ashes of his parents. She claims it's for him to find some closure but secretly she is also aiming to manipulate his trust.

Adam and Kem use the tablet to further investigate the recent meteorological anomalies and find a lead to verify Adam's claims. But in order for them to get the proof they need, they'll need to bribe some smugglers to get on board a cargo ship to take them where they can check their findings.

Seg visits the Fortress once more and discovers a DNA lock which he is able to open by using his blood. This activates a hologram of Val that convinces him of the truth of Adam's claims about Brainiac, the "world collector" that will someday destroy Krypton. Seg vows to stop Brainiac. Meanwhile Kem and Adam's continued research leads them to discover evidence of a scout probe which means that Brainiac is already coming.

Krypton S01E01 "Pilot" Recap

Seg-El is Superman's grandfather but at this story's beginning he is a mere child witnesses his grandfather, Val-El, being executed for treason. The ones to execute him are the corrupt regime leading the city of Kandor that don't approve of Val-El warning that they aren't alone in the universe and that their people are in danger. See and his parents are stripped of their privileges and banished to the lower class slums.

Fourteen years later, Seg is a misfit prone to getting into fights. He'll use it as a way to make money but possibly also as a means of lashing out over the discontent he feels about his life. His life is modest as he still lives with his parents, all bearing the weight of the shame that was inflicted on their family name.

Chief magistrate Daron-Vex, the same man who ordered the execution and exile of the Els, summons Seg to inform him that he is arranged for a marriage between Seg and his youngest daughter Nyssa. This will reinstate Seg to the upper classes. Secretly, Seg is involved in a relationship with a woman in the military, Lyta-Zod.

Adam Strange, a man from Earth in the future, tracks Seg down and gives him a Sunstone bearing the El symbol and warns him that someone else is coming from the future to try to destroy Krypton and prevent Seg's grandson from ever being born because he will be the greatest hero in the universe. He tells Seg to find the "fortress". Seg brings it to his parents and tells them what he was told. Meg's father takes the stone, saying it's too dangerous to carry it around in the public. Seg is upset when he finds out that his parents won't be able to come with him to the upper class but they insist that he must go and live a better life. Seg takes the stone back in secret. Secretly, Seg's parents discuss whether or not to tell him about a family secret and whether he is ready for it.

Seg is nearly caught by some guards while carrying the Sunstone but manages to run away with it. They continue to search for him until his mother rescues him using a mysterious spaceship she is flying. She brings him to the hidden Fortress of Solitude and shows him Val-El's research hidden within. Val had found an alien threat to Krypton but was killed to keep this secret. Seg's parents weren't able to get back into the Fortress but with this Sunstone being gifted to Seg, this is the first time they've been able to get back in. Charys, Seg's mother, warns him that they will be coming for them and to keep the Sunstone safe to be able to finish Val's work since it's all that matters now. She gives him a way to escape but closes off the way so that she will be arrested without Seg being able to stop her.

Charts is brought before the council and shouts out to the people that her father was right and they aren't alone in the universe. She refuses to acknowledge the existence of the Fortress or to say who was in the ship with her since the scanners picked up two bodies. Seg wants to turn himself in but his father, Ter, turns himself in instead. When Charys draws the weapons Ter had on his body, Jayna-Zod (Lyta's mother) shoots her dead.

Seg is devastated and breaks up with Lyta. He seeks refuge and solitude in the Fortress. Adam assures him that there is a brighter future for him and his offspring to come, but it is fading due to an threat known as Brainiac that moves from world to world devouring them whole and now it is meddling with the timeline in an effort to erase Superman. Adam shows him a cape belonging to Superman that has a strange glowing effect on it that gradually eats away at it. When the cape is gone, time will be up to save Superman and the universe itself.
