A Warrior's Heart

A Warrior's Heart was finally released on December 2, after sitting on the shelf since 2009, but the movie had an extremely limited release. For me this meant that I had to drive 2 hours to even get a chance to see it, but was it worth the wait, or hell the drive for that matter?

Starring Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene, the story follows Lutz's character, Connor. He's a hot shot star player on the Lacrosse team, with a volatile temper but after losing his father he begins to spiral out of control. Greene's character Brooklyn falls for Connor, but is helpless to get him through his pain. His mother, the lovely Gabrielle Anwar, is utterly unable to get through to him help him off the destructive path he's on barreling down. In steps Sgt. Major Duke Wayne, Adam Beach, who takes him to a wilderness Lacrosse camp and sets him back on the path of righteousness.

The movie is adorable and heartfelt, Connor's path of discovery to find himself isn't magical, it's raw, it's gritty. There was plenty of sweating, and even a hard earned lesson, a team coming together, and a little bit of a love story.

It was far better than I was expecting. The lacrosse scenes were fast paced, and pretty awesome. And Lutz showed a great array of emotions that were very true for his situation. Some of the dialogue was a little cheesy, but Lutz delivered it with zeal. And I have to admit when Connor broke down and cried, I was right there with him.

The low point of the movie, or rather points, where Greene's narration. The voiceovers cheapened the experience instead of enhancing anything for me. It was an overused gimmick that quickly became tiresome.

Bottom line: It's a sweet story. I adored it, but wouldn't have driven so far for it. Perfect for a lazy Sunday though, and well worth the price of admission.

Battleship trailer #2

Battleship has released a new trailer, and dare I say it looks decent. And when I say decent I mean it'll make a crap ton of money like the Transformers movies. Whether people love it or not, they won't be able to keep themselves from going to see it, myself included.

Battleship is an upcoming 2012 epic action-adventure film inspired by Hasbro's popular game "Battleship".

Synopsis:
Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Inspired by Hasbro's classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper's fiancée; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper's older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper's crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone's superior (and Sam's father), Admiral Shane.

Berg directs this epic action-adventure also produced by Scott Stuber (Couples Retreat), Sarah Aubrey (The Kingdom), Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir of Hasbro (the Transformers franchise), along with Duncan Henderson (Master and Commander) and Jeffrey Silver (300). The film is written by Jon Hoeber & Erich Hoeber (Red).
The battle for Earth begins at sea.

The world of the Occultist is a wild one, and although the sword is doing its damnedest to protect Rob, whether he wants it to or not, it doesn’t mean he’s in any less trouble, especially since the lovely Detective is onto him, and in over her head in his world.

His foes are numerous, and his back is against the wall as the bounty hunters close in, each more harrowing than the next. Will Rob survive, and what of his pretty unsuspecting girlfriend? She runs into the fray with nary a second thought, which may be her last.

The action is full kilter in this one, and finally the reason the sword chose Rob is exposed, but that knowledge may not be enough to save him.

Mike Richardson and Tim Seeley deliver another epic  storyline, which shows no signs of slowing as it leads into the final part. And Victor Drujiniu’s art is top notch.

The Evil Dead gets a release date!

Via Movie Web

Evil Dead landed a home at Sony and Film District last month, and now the partners have set a release date of April 12, 2013. Let the rejoicing commence.

A lot of folks are against this remake, admittingly I was among them, but Sam Raimi, Robert G. Tapert and Bruce Campbell, the guys behind the original franchise, are producing, so I'm willing to give it a chance. Directing will be Federico Alvarez who co wrote the script with Rodolfo Sayagues.

Diablo Cody has been working on rewriting the script, and she's been quoted as saying that the remake is "unbelievably violent." The story revolves around a group of friends who venture up to a remote cabin, where they discover the Book of the Dead. They must fight to survive when a demonic force is unleashed after the book is read. Movie Web has been reporting that the lead character is bringing his sister to the cabin to help her kick her drug habit.

Honestly, they had me at Bruce Campbell.

Production is scheduled to begin in early 2012.

The Evil Dead comes to theaters April 12th, 2013.

Directed by J.B Rogers (American Pie 2, Say It Isn’t So) and featuring Playboy’s Jennifer Walcott and Sheena Lee, THE POOL BOYS was released theatrically nationwide in fall 2011 on 70+ screens.
THE POOL BOYS tells the story of Alex Sperling (Brett Davern), Harvard-bound valedictorian, who loses his summer internship and heads to Los Angeles to work for his charming and successful cousin Roger (Lillard). Unfortunately, Roger isn't quite the accomplished businessman he's made himself out to be -- he actually dropped out of Harvard, and now works as a pool boy. After a series of mishaps force Alex and Roger to squat in the mansion of one of Roger's clients, they join forces with Laura, a local escort, to start an escort business. And, as the “business” quickly grows, the boys find themselves trapped in the middle of “how did I get here?” situations -- from showdowns with shotgun-wielding celebrities to bar mitzvahs and sadistic lesbian businesswomen, culminating in a huge party.
