Ballroom 20 played host to USA Network’s Covert Affairs for their first Comic Con appearance, and the second panel of Thursday. Oded Fehr moderated the panel featuring Piper Perabo, Christopher Gorham, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Kari Matchett, Peter Gallagher and Anne Dudek, with producers Doug Liman​, David Bartis, Matt Corman and Chris Ord.

The crowd went absolutely crazy for Chris Gorman, practically deafening me, which was nothing compared to the noise when he was shirtless in the extended trailer. Co-creator Matt Corman gave a little insight into Auggie being blind, saying that he based the character on a friend who was in a life altering accident. He developed “levels of complexity” afterwards, and ultimately became a more interesting person. But the downside Gorman says is that he’s stuck in the office while everyone else globe trots.

Kari Marchett may not be as tough as her character, but she definitely has her humor. Anne Dudek has a simple request, probably the same as many of the girls and some of the boys in the audience, she wants to be in a scene with Chris Gorham's abs.

Turns out that Perabo, although extrodinary at picking up languages, isn’t fluent, and has a language teacher, Liman spills. A fan asks about a Burn Notice/Covert Affairs crossover. Gorham would love to see an Auggie/Fi story, and Perabo jumps in suggesting a Burn Notice/Covert Affairs/White Collar crossover. Not sure what the story line would possibly be, but that would be one I wouldn’t be able to miss.

And as for hints, Ramamurthy shares that one of his Heroes buddies was coming, likely Santiago Cabrera whose slated to guest star, and possibly provide some “shenanigans” with Annie. Corman teases that there will be “secrets from the sisters’ past” later revealed.

Attention came back to Gornam and the difficulty of filming action sequences while blind. "The trick is trying to find a way to make it believable," Gorham says. It was written into the script this week that Auggie could never let go of his opponent during their fight.

An audience member asked why Annie doesn't carry a gun. Is it to separate herself from spies who just "bust a cap" in their opponents all the time? Perabo laughs at this, commenting about the lack of show there would be if she could just “bust a cap” in someone, before getting serious. She said that Valerie Plame advised her on the pilot and that CIA operatives don't carry firearms in America.

The last fan question is if there are any plans to "fix" Auggie? Gorham without missing a beat: "Are you talking about, like, castration? I hope not." And the short answer, delivered by Liman is that Auggie being blind is not going away, that to fix it would be cheesy and disrespectful to all that they’ve done but castration is still on that table.

Bruce Campbell was his usual awesome snarky self, coming out on the first day of comic con, to give the audience a little stand-up, oh and the debut of Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe.

It was like a PSA from Bruce, as he elaborated that the showers were FREE at the hotels. I hope everyone was keeping notes.

And Bruce touched on the Evil Dead remake. Saying it’s gonna happen, so get over it. I’m not sure that the crowd will be peaceful about that subject until they see it, and probably not after either. But all I have to say is that whoever takes the roll of Ash, has a big chin to live up to. But Bruce did note that he does appreciate how opinionated and passionate Evil Dead Fans are.

Bruce and Matt Nix traded some good natured barbs, and the preview for the mockumentary  “The Fall of Jeffery Donovan.” As if the movie wasn’t good enough, the hilarity of that preview makes this a must have.

The film follows the Sam Axe, we already love, before he was that guy. He’s disconnected from people, and through the course of the movie he realizes who he is, and does the right thing. It’s also the beginning of Sam’s alter ego Chuck Finley.

Sam gets to step out of the role of side kick, and do the mission his own way, which is hot. Can’t help but love a man who takes charge.

Relativity Media and Atlas Entertainment to Bring Voltron™

to Big  Screen

Studio options feature film rights from World Event Productions

(Beverly Hills, CA) July 21, 2011 – Relativity Media’s President of Worldwide Production Tucker Tooley announced today the studio has optioned the feature film rights for Voltron™  from World Event Productions, and will adapt the live-action big screen version from the 1984 cult-classic animated series Voltron: Defender of the Universe™. The project was brought to Relativity through their deal with Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, whose company will shepherd the project.

In Voltron™, an elite battle force defends the fate of mankind in the spectacular action adventure. Five young warriors are responsible for the future of the galaxy when they become pilots of a battalion of ultra-high-tech Robot Lions, powerful vessels with the ability to join together to form a fearsome mega-weapon known as “Voltron”.

The original series, based on the Japanese anime properties Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV, aired in the United States for two years and has been described as an “international pop-culture hit” that has garnered a large following over the last 25 years. In recent years, the Voltron™ property has sold over 300,000 DVDs, established numerous apparel and consumer product deals and has spawned a highly-successful TV series, Voltron Force™, which became Nicktoon’s highest-rated debut ever on June 16, 2011. Voltron™ will be making its first-ever panel debut at Comic-Con International in San Diego on Thursday, July 21 where they will feature a presentation of all-new and classic Voltron™ content.

The live-action film will be produced by Atlas Entertainment’s Roven (The Dark Knight) and Richard Suckle (The International), along with Kickstart Entertainment’s Jason Netter (Wanted). World Events Productions’ Ted Koplar (Voltron Force) will executive produce. The script is being penned by Thomas Dean Donnelly (Conan the Barbarian) and Joshua Oppenheimer (Sahara).

Tooley said, “For nearly three decades, Voltron™ has captured the minds of a nostalgically loyal and rabid fan base and has long been considered a hotly-pursued project. We are beyond excited World Event Productions and Atlas Entertainment have placed their trust and faith in Relativity to bring this coveted property to the big screen, and usher in a new generation of devoted fans.”  Tooley added, “With Chuck and Richard’s experience producing tentpoles, they are the perfect producers to bring this potential franchise to theaters.” 

Roven, co-founder, Atlas Entertainment said, “It’s incredibly gratifying to officially announce the development of the live-action Voltron™ movie this week, given its recent resurgence and the start of Comic-Con."

Looking ahead, Relativity will release David Ellis’ Shark Night 3D on September 2, 2011, followed by Marc Forster’s Machine Gun Preacher on September 23, 2011, then the highly-anticipated Immortals on November 11, 2011, starring Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Isabel Lucas, Freida Pinto, Luke Evans and Kellan Lutz with John Hurt and Mickey Rourke. Principal Photography on Thriller Began This Week in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA (July 21, 2011) – Filming began this week on Periscope Entertainment’s WOULD YOU RATHER in Los Angeles, starring Brittany Snow (Hairspray) and Jeffrey Combs (House on Haunted Hill).  David Guy Levy, President and CEO of Periscope Entertainment is directing and producing under his banner in association with Zak Kilberg (The Slaughter, Zombie Strippers!) at Social Construct Films, Maura Anderson (Winter’s Bone) and Dreamher Productions.  Brittany Snow and Andre Royo (The Wire) are executive producing.

The film is based on an original script by Steffen Schlachtenhaufen (Emmy-nominated Life After People) and story by Schlachtenhaufen and David Guy Levy.  WOULD YOU RATHER centers on a young woman (Snow) who, in her desperation to help her ailing brother, agrees to compete in a deadly game of “Would You Rather,” hosted by a sadistic aristocrat (Combs).  The film’s cast includes Sasha Grey (Entourage, The Girlfriend Experience), John Heard (Home Alone), Robin Lord Taylor (Another Earth) and Lawrence Gilliard, Jr. (The Wire). 

Listed by Variety as one of 2010’s 10 Producers to Watch, David Guy Levy executive produced the coming of age comedy Terri, starring Oscar-nominated John C. Reilly, which bowed in theaters earlier this month.
