Sons of Anarchy Season 4 Blu Ray Review

Sons of Anarchy roared into a fourth season, upping the adrenaline and intensity of the previous ones, starting up where it left off with it’s unrelenting tale of motorcycles, power and fast money. The season takes on a Shakespearean twist, with Jax reflecting upon his family legacy and being visited by his father’s ghost.

The cast lead by Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal, Mark Boone Junior, Maggie Siff and Ron Perlman are phenomenal as they find themselves up to their necks in alligators, figuratively speaking of course.  Having just been released from jail following a 14 month stay for Federal weapons charges they’re plunged into a web of misplaced trust, a marriage, cocaine, internal riffs and death threats.

If you’ve never seen it, the show is fantastic, though I suggest starting at season 1. Each episode does reacquaint you with the characters if you haven’t, or if it’s been awhile, but it is definitely worth going back to the beginning for. The writing is exceptional.  It’s not all dramatic intensity, there’s plenty of dark humor to break the tension.  And the acting is relentless and so very believable. The cast really takes the excellent writing and runs with it. Charlie Hunnan’s Jax continues to grow in his position as leader of SAMCRO, and he’s very strong willed. Maggie Siff plays his love interest Tara, who finds herself in danger at every turn. Ron Perlman plays Clay, Jax’s stepfather, advisor, and bulldog, always looking for a fight. And everyone’s favorite, former Bundy, Katey Sagal plays Gemma, the strong willed matriarch. She’s the momma bear, protecting her family, and she is seriously dangerous, which is utterly fantastic.

Sons of Anarchy Season 4 made it’s way to DVD and Blu Ray this week. The transition to disc is flawless, and it’s loaded with special features:

The best special feature is probably Anarchy At House of Blues- In this bonus Katey Sagal takes the stage for a musical number. I’m not sure if I was more surprised by her pipes, or the way she owns the stage.

Another favorite is The Gag Reel- The gag reel is always a highlight of the hilarity, and with such an entertaining number of actors, they don’t disappoint, but be warned, there is a full moon.

There’s also Piney's Farewell- A final goodbye to William Lucking who plays the character Piermont "Piney" Winston. Piney may have been one of the most interesting characters, but when his loyalties changed, there was only one avenue left for him. It’s a tender tribute to a fallen character.

Set your DVRs Season five begins September 11^th with 13 new episodes promised to keep you on the edge of your chair. It’s going to be a fun ride.
