MOD Platform to Anchor Three Days of Action in the “MOD Lounge” in and Around the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego

“Conan the Barbarian” Jason Momoa and REELZCHANNEL’s Leonard Maltin to Appear

New York, July 19, 2011 – Across the street from next week’s Comic-Con International in San Diego, the Hard Rock Hotel will be a buzz of celebrity and excitement as one of the core locations for a number of high-profile entertainment outlets. This year a new entrant, Movies On Demand (MOD), the national platform for ordering movies via cable TV, also will make the famed hotel its home base from July 21-23. MOD is a collaboration of major movie studios and cable operators around the country promoting the On Demand platform as the best way to watch the hottest Hollywood hits from home via remote control.

The “MOD Lounge” will house invitation-only celebrity media appearances by Jason Momoa (“Conan the Barbarian”) and renowned movie expert Leonard Maltin (REELZCHANNEL), along with others to be announced.  In addition, contest winners will be invited to the MOD Lounge to attend a special promotional screening of Paramount Pictures’ hit animated blockbuster “Rango,” which premieres on MOD July 29.  Throughout the conference, the lounge also will be a place for movie fans to stop by and learn more about what’s coming up on MOD, enjoy movie-themed giveaways and “green screen” themselves into a movie scene.  The MOD Lounge will also be home base for the launch of @moviesondemand on Twitter and for updates about MOD during Comic-Con and beyond on Facebook.

In addition to the activities taking place in the MOD Lounge, Time Warner Cable cameras will be covering the action-packed convention floor and capturing celebrity interviews that will become available at no additional cost to their digital customers on the Movies On Demand channel.   MOD also will launch a national “Geekstakes,” with the grand prize being a trip to the 2012 Comic-Con, through street teams distributing scratch off cards on the plaza outside the Hard Rock Hotel, as well as online (see info below).

Participants in the Movies On Demand Lounge and surrounding activities include Time Warner Cable, Lionsgate, Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, DreamWorks, Relativity, Warner Bros., REELZCHANNEL and others, including local San Diego cable operator Cox Communications. The MOD Lounge and surrounding promotions are created and managed by iN DEMAND, the nation’s largest distributor of Movies On Demand to cable.

Movies on Demand (MOD) is supported by a national consortium of top movie studios and top cable systems around the country working together to promote MOD on Cable as the simplest and best way to rent the newest and hottest Hollywood movies just by pushing the button on a cable remote. MOD delivers many movies in the earliest post-theatrical windows, often same day as DVD or earlier and often weeks before Netflix and RedboxMOD films are available instantly on digital cable in SD, HD, and 3D (when available), with full DVD functionality and without the hassle of DVDs to return or late-fee worries. Some titles, especially indies, come to cable before or the same day as their theatrical release.

During Comic-Con, the MOD Lounge also will be home to press events, which require an RSVP as space is limited. Additional events will be added daily during Comic-Con. Please contact one of us below to be added to list for the following:

·        Roundtable with “Conan The Barbarian” Jason Momoa, Friday, 7/22 6:30-7:15 PM

·        Happy Hour with Reelz Channel’s Leonard Maltin, Host of “Maltin On Movies” on REELZCHANNEL. Saturday, 7/23 4:30-6PM

And for the ultimate geek who can’t make it to Comic-Con, MOD will take its “Geekstakes” national, with the grand prize being a chance to win a trip to the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Fans can visit www.rentmoviesondemand.com/geekstakes to enter for a chance to win.   Comic Book/Sci-Fi/Fantasy fans also will find great titles on MOD before other platforms, and many cable systems have special themed categories on their menus this month to celebrate Comic-Con.
