Once Upon A Time S04E17 Recap: Heart of Gold

Emma continues to search for the author, with Snow and David on her heels. They tell her that they know the author, that he manipulated them into causing Maleficent to lose her child. Emma is still upset with them that they turned her completely good at the expense of another's soul. They chose their path, but now they have to find the author before Gold does.

The author tries to carve out a quill from a branch, but Gold tells him it won't work. The kind of quill he needs, has to be made from Enchanted Trees, which Storybrooke has none. That has the author's attention, he breaks his quill. He has to go, but Gold offers him to come with him. The author laughs, he's the biggest pain in the ass that he's ever had the displeasure to write. Gold knows that's true, but he has something the author desires, a new magic quill. In exchange, he wants the author to write him a few new happy endings. The heroes close in, and the author takes him up on his offer.

Regina awakens, shackled, no more magic for her. Gold tells her that she and the author are his prisoner. She asks what about what he said, that he wanted her to find her happiness. He does, but his good will has its limits, and he doesn't want it at his expense. He's found Robin's phone number in Regina's pocket. He thinks that she has reason to fear for him. She asks what happened to Robin, and Gold frees her so she can find out herself.

Nine Weeks ago. Marion and her son pass through the barrier. Robin steals a kiss from Regina before joining them. In the hustle and bustle of the city, the noise bothers them. Robin thinks that they will get use to it. He tries to find Baelfire's apartment on the map, Regina gave him the keys. Marion knows that he came from the Enchanted Forest, and he lived there for many years, it gives her hope that they will be good here. Roland complains that he's tired, Marion lays down her purse to pick up the boy, and it's stolen. Robin runs off after the thief, who jumps on a bike. He steals a horse to continue his pursuit through the streets of New York. Robin tackles the guy, telling him that a thief who steals from those in need has no honor. The thief flees without his goods or bike.

Many years ago in Sherwood Forest. Robin tends bar while Marion serves drinks. Little John sits down, and tries to entice Robin into joining him. Robin hasn't lifted a penny since he and Marion married. The Sheriff arrives, and he's glad to see Robin living the straight and narrow. He tells Robin that his taxes are overdue, and the Sheriff being generous gives him two days. The Sheriff clearly has in intentions on Marion, though she tells him that she would never be with him. When her husband is in debtor's jail and she's on the streets he's sure that she will see his tall, dark and handsome appeal.

Now. Marion patches up Robin at the apartment. New York has lost its appeal. She's fearful, she brought this place on them. Robin tries to console her, she had no choice but to leave Storybrooke, and he chose to come with her and bring Roland. Marion knows that he's very honorable, but also that he chose to be with her rather than his true love. They hear a noise outside, and Robin prepares for whatever comes through the door next. It's Gold, and he's confused as to why they're there. Robin is just as confused. Gold tells him that its none of his concern, but he needs to leave. Robin refuses to leave, its his family's home now. Robin realizes that Gold is after the author. Gold thinks it could be good for Robin too, not so much for Marion. Robin refuses to trust Gold and his games. He has a wife and child, he needs this home and he's keeping it. Gold collapses in what looks like a heart attack.

Past. Robin cleans the floors, glad that he has a customer, that the Sheriff didn't scare everyone off. Rumple isn't looking for ale, but a thief, and everyone has pointed to Robin. He isn't interested, but Rumple points out that his barkeep days may soon be up if that tax notice isn't paid. Robin is willing to listen. Rumple asks for a simple task, to retrieve the Elixir of the Wounded Heart from Oz.

Now, at the hospital, Robin waits for Gold's fate, but he contemplates calling Regina. He's called to Gold's beside before he can call her. Gold did have a heart attack, but he thinks otherwise. His problem isn't physical, but moral. He's done a lot of bad deeds. In Storybrooke he protected his heart with magic, but here, he's almost helpless. They can't make magic here, but they can use items from other places. Gold asks Robin if he remembers the Elixir he asked him to steal. He thinks he may know where some of it exists in New York and he asks Robin to get it for him. Robin asks why he would do that. Gold knows that he's a man with a code, with honor, and that is why despite everything he knows Robin will save him.

Past, Robin stepped through Rumple's portal to Oz. Upon arrival he runs into Will Scarlet. His portal knocked aside a guard that had Will apprehended. Robin reveals why he's in Oz, and Will doesn't think that stealing from the Wicked Witch is a good way to end up dead. He asks for more detail, as saving a bar isn't reason enough, a woman has to be involved. A woman is, Marion. He promised her a good life and he intends to deliver. Will and Robin become fast friends, and Robin enlists his help peeling the guard out of his uniform.

Now, Robin heads to the Wizard of Oak. Clever name. In both worlds, he's not very clever or witty. Zelena sent the wizard to this world to keep an eye on Emma, and Gold warns that he won't be without his potions and charms. Robin breaks in and goes in search of the elixir as the alarm goes off. He digs through drawers, and finds nothing. As the sirens ring, Robin finally finds potion, but the cops are out front. He's forced to throw himself through a window and run for safety to avoid capture.

Marion is upset to hear what Robin has been up to, he could have been arrested or worse. Robin couldn't turn his back on Gold, turning his back on someone helpless goes against his very code. Marion reminds him who Gold is, and tells him to think of the greater good, and let him die. That's not the Marion he knows. She reminds him to look around him, at where they are now.

In Oz, Robin sneaks into the Emerald City in the guard guise. He finds a six leaf clover necklace, but looks on for the elixir. He steals a bit of the Elixir for Gold, and some for Will as well. Zelena walks in as he fills the second vial, catching him in the act. She see through his guise immediately, and wonders why he's stealing from her. He sees a carnival poster, and takes up the bow. Zelena laughs at him, as she splits in three. He's got one shot at her, and she knows that the only person gutsy enough to steal from her is Rumple and she wants to know what he wants. Robin weighs over his option, and when Zelena goes to throw a fireball at him, she condenses back into one person. He fires an arrow as she launches her fireball at him, he doesn't aim directly at her though, but at one of the pillars, throwing up smoke everywhere. The smoke gives Robin a chance to get away. Robin meets back up with Will, but he tells him that he failed. The witch was waiting for him when he got there, and he was unable to steal anything. Will walks away, and Robin didn't tell the whole truth.

Now. Robin arrives at the hospital with the Elixir. Before he hands it over, he wants to strike a deal. Gold will move on, and he will never see him at the apartment again. Gold is happy to give him the apartment. With the delivery, their dealings are done. Gold drinks the potion down, but its not working. Gold throws the bottle across the room, frustrated that it didn't work. Marion arrives, with the real bottle in hand. She tried to convince Robin to let Gold die, but he wouldn't. Gold doesn't understand why she's doing this, he's done her no harm. Marion pulls a necklace out, revealing her true form. Its Zelena. He doesn't understand how its possible. She used the six leaf clover spell from Oz. When he stabbed her in the cell, her essence left her body before it shattered. She had a time to go. She realized what she needed to do. She watched Emma and Hook as they flitted around in the past. When she realized what they had planned, she knew what she had to do. She killed Robin's wife and became her. It wasn't easy not being her, but knowing that she was going to ruin Regina's happiness made it worth it. Gold realizes that Marion never made it to Storybrooke, and Zelena admits its true. No one has been the wiser, not Robin, not even Roland. Marion is as dead as his son. Gold begins to have another heart attack, as she makes him realize he never got the revenge he desired. The sirens go off, and Zelena hears nothing but an echo in his chest. The doctors rush in to try to save Gold.

Gold survives, and he awakens to Zelena wiping at his brow. She silences, marveling over the magic in this world. A tube helps him breathe. There was a time that Zelena would relish in all of this, but she's not done yet. She admits that she was planning to steal Robin's heart, to destroy Regina, but she's been unsuccessful. Something is blocking her, and she knows that if there is anyone that could bend the author to his will, it would be the dark one. She wants her happy ending built into his plan, and for him to stop trying to kill her. She thinks its fair. Her life for his.

Past. Before Robin heads out, Will wants to thank him for trying. Not many would have the courage to try. He's very sorry Robin won't be able to save his tavern. He gives him a big boastful speech, about how Robin gave it his all, and he should be proud. If Marion is half as wonderful as he claims, then she'll see that too. Will once had someone who meant the world to him too, not the Queen of Hearts or Anastasia, but his sister. Are we going to pretend that Once Upon A Time in Wonderland never happened? His sister fell through the ice and drowned. Robin realizes that Will was never going to sell the potion, but to use it on himself. He's out in Oz, because he can't ask someone else for their heart when his is broken. The two embrace, and Will goes off. He tells him goodluck with Rumpelstiltskin, it's not easy to get the best of him. Robin leaves, and Will continues down the yellow brick road. In his pocket he finds the elixir, Robin placed there.

Robin waits outside of the hospital. Gold leaves it. He thought Robin never wanted to see him again. After all the trouble he went through, he wanted to make sure he was well. He also wanted to give him some items that Baelfire left behind. Gold doesn't want them. They're the remnants of Neal, a boy who was in this land alone because his father was too much a coward to hold onto what he had. He doesn't want a reminder of his failures. Robin understands. With Marion, he wished she returned everyday, and when she did, she's like a total stranger. Gold asks why he married her. He loved her, and thought she was his happy ending, but now he isn't so sure. Gold suggests as a man that was never satisfied that he should run towards his happy ending, and never let it go.

Past. Robin shined his glasses in his empty bar. The Sheriff arrived to collect his taxes. With no clients, he had no funds to give. The Sheriff is more than happy to arrest Robin, but he doesn't get the chance. Robin has reassembled his Merry Men. Thieving is in his blood, and he's come to the realization how to do so with honor. He plans to steal from the rich and give to the poor. Marion is proud of him, but reminds him that he will now be the Sheriff's most wanted. He will no longer go by Robin of Locksley, but Robin Hood. Not the most clever of names. Marion asks of Rumple. If he sees him again he will kill him. Robin doesn't plan on letting Rumple see his face again. He stole the six leaf clover of Oz. Marion finds him very clever. He's sorry he didn't tell her what he was doing, and she is willing to hear about it now. Robin confesses that he left to Oz to try to steal to keep his bar, but he's not cut out to be a barkeep. She could have told him that. While in Oz, he realized that his thieving could be put to good use. When yo u steal for yourself that makes you a thief, but when you steal for someone else that makes you a hero. He thinks that's no life for a family, but Marion thinks it is as long as she's with him. She knows that no matter where they are, or what they face, she only wants to be with him.

Robin showers, alone with his thoughts. Marion calls him, asking him why Regina's number is on his phone. He apologizes, he's been thinking about her. She asks if he wants to be with her. He doesn't answer. She realizes that things are hard, but she feels like he's not there. She tells him that she and Roland are fine here, and if he wants to go back to Regina he should. She doesn't want to spend her life worrying if he's going to stay. Robin tells her that he wants to be with her, that he loves her. She once gave up everything to be with him once. She said something to him before, that he should have taken to heart. He asks if she remembers, and she says she does, but she wants to hear him say it. No matter where we are or what we face I want to be with you. Marion meant every word, and now Robin does too. He thought she was dead, and the fact that they're back together is a miracle, and he needs to embrace that. He deletes Regina's number, and Zelena gets her man.

Nine Weeks Later. Regina calls Robin, but its not Robin who answers but Zelena. She admits that she didn't die. Regina asks where Robin is, but Zelena has done nothing to him. Zelena has been completely wifely to Robin. Regina is besides herself with the fact that Gold knew the entire time. He warns her that one wrong move, and Robin will die at Zelena's hand. He and Zelena have an agreement, but he needs Regina to turn Emma dark. Gold may have turned her into a monster, but she will not turn Emma into one.

Once Upon A Time S04E11 Recap: Heroes And Villains

The walls surrounding Storybrooke still stand, but Elsa is ready to take it all down. Using her ice magic, Elsa takes down the line. Anna is ready to go home. Emma warns Anna that the town line is on the other side, and they may not be able to cross the line. Elsa is okay with proceeding with caution, as Arendelle will still be there, and they wouldn't be able to get there by walking anyways. Anna and Kristoff forgot to tell her that Arendelle has been conquered by Hans and his brothers, so it may not be there when they return. Elsa hurries Emma to find them a way home. Hook meanwhile looks queasy.

Rumple is squeezing the hot pirate's heart, everything has been mucked up. If the Snow Queen had succeeded then things would have been easier. Hook tells him that the Arendelle trio are looking for a way home. Rumple wants Anna gone, she knows what he was doing, that he was trying to cleave himself from the dagger. Belle confessed to knowing Anna. Rumple doesn't like the position he's in. Rumple tells Hook to watch Anna, to make sure that she does not come near the shop. When the stars in the sky align with the stars on the hat, he will finally crush Hook's heart. Then Rumple will wake his beautiful wife and give her the life she's always wanted.

Past. Belle looks through items in the library, and Rumple scares her as she pulls a knife from the shelf. He warns her not to cut herself. Her curiosity got the best of her. While he was away, she wanted to look over his things. He's been all over the world, and yet he says nothing. He claims that she's just the help, but she's sure that she's more. She asks about his recent trip to Camelot. It was good for him, bad for them. He brings her a trinket from Camelot to clean, a gauntlet which points out someone's weakness.

Rumple wakes Belle to breakfast in bed, but he has more planned for her. He wants to give her a proper honeymoon. He asks if she would like to see New York. He tells her to pack a suitcase, its time to see the world. Poor naive Belle, she's going to be so heartbroken when she finally opens and realizes what Rumple has done.

The time has come to finally restore Marian, and Robin just doesn't look happy about it. Regina plops Marian's heart back in her unfrozen body and she awakens, throwing herself into Robin's arms. At the dinner, Regina just wants to be alone, but Marian has come to talk. She thanks Regina for saving her life, twice. Regina wants no thanks. Marian can't forget about it because Robin can't forget. For her its only been a short time but for him, its been a lifetime. She thinks that Robin loves Regina, and that she loves him. Regina tells her that Robin is an honorable man and that he'll stay with Marian. But Marian doesn't want him out of obligation, but choice. If his heart leads him to her, she will happily accept him, but it does not as she suspects it won't she'll step out of the way. Regina has a small hope.

The broom walks, and Hook admits that the crocodile may have gotten the best of him in this life, but he'll be waiting in the next. With Rumple's immortality, that may be a long while. Since Hook is resigned to his death, he asks who the house belongs to, and Rumple only admits that it is a powerful sorcerer's. He brought the Snow Queen from Arendelle. He's very powerful, now he only needs to find the portal he used. The portal shows itself in front of Rumple and Hook.

Henry finds Belle trying to stuff her suitcase for her honeymoon trip. He tells her that the spell is still in place, and any who leave will not be able to return. Belle hadn't heard that news, but she's sure that Rumple must have a way around it. Henry looks concerned, and Belle asks what's wrong. He shows her the storybook that has all their stories in it, and tells her that he's concerned about his mother, Regina. She's on a better path though, Belle believes, and there is nothing to worry about. Belle realizes that she needs another suitcase, and sends Henry to help her find one. He climbs on a ladder, telling her about the New York Public library. He finds the suitcase, and drops a pile of items, the gauntlet among them, and that concerns Belle.

Past. Belle realized why Rumple collected so many magical things, because he had a hole in his heart. He tells her what he's missing is clean clothes, and with a snap of his fingers he sends her outside to the laundry line. Belle mutters about being correct in her assumption, and knowing that he can hear her, voices her disdain. The sound of whimpering pulls her from her revelry, and she spots a dalmatian puppy. It runs off, and she chases off it, but it disappears into the trees. Someone grabs her from behind. My money is on Cruella de Vil.

Hook arrives at Granny's. He may not be the savior, but he's saved the day he tells Emma. He shares a drink with Emma, and claims that he's found the portal to Arendelle. Emma doesn't quite believe him, but he goes on that he went to Gold, and he showed him the portal in his mansion. Rumple has turned over a new leaf he says. Dozens of new leafs, but Emma is unsure they can trust him. Talking through Hook using his heart, Rumple has him tell her that he's sure that they can trust Rumple. The portal is the same one that brought the Snow Queen in the first place. They just need to get the Arendelle trio through it and home. Emma is fine with the plan, but when she moves into action Hook makes an excuse as to why he can't go, which raises all sorts of red flags. Emma sees that he's acting strange, and he claims to be fine, giving her a little kiss. He says he'll see her around, but he grabs her before leaving.

Past. Rumple goes looking for Belle, hoping that she hasn't done something so stupid as running away. A bird caws above, dropping a sand dollar down at him. He waves his hand over it, and an image of Belle appears. She's suppose to ask him for the Camelot gauntlet in exchange for her life. There is some wicked laughing as Belle begs for her life. Rumple threatens the bird and its master.

Regina sits on a bench with Robin watching Roland and Marian. Roland looks so happy, and Regina knows that their children come first. Robin tells her that he choses Regina, which Regina finds absurd. She asks what its going to look like to Roland. To Roland it will look messy and complicated, but if he were to go back to Marian he wouldn't be truthful to himself. The best thing he could do for his son is to live truthful. Robin shows her story book page he saved of him kissing Regina. Roland shouts, Marian has fallen. She's succumb to the ice again. There must be some remnant of ice magic on her. Marian's only chance is to leave the town. Robin is ready to take Marian to the world without magic, but Regina warns him that its a one way trip. She tells him that he cannot leave Marian to that world alone, that he and Roland need to go with her. Poor Regina, she's too good for her own well being. Regina sits in the car staring at the city line. Will is outside talking with Robin, Marian and Roland saying their goodbyes. Rumple gets into her car. He's come to say goodbye. He knows that once he leaves he cannot come back, and he's okay there. He wants her to tell Henry goodbye, and before he leaves he wants to know why Henry has been snooping around his shop. She admits that Henry was looking for something, a clue to who the author of his book was. They wanted to find him and make him give Regina a happy ending, since as it stands villains don't get them. In Regina's case that's true, but Rumple think he's different. Regina notices that he and Belle seem content, because he took his happy ending and he thinks that Regina should take hers too. Regina isn't the same person she was before, and she can't sacrifice people like she has. Rumple sounds like his old self, she thought he had changed. He's evolved. He thinks he's above fate, and story books. He tells her that he's about to get what he desires, and he wants the same for her. It's finally time for her to say goodbye to Robin. She's given him a map and money, everything he needs. He thanks her, but Marian is getting worse. She needs to cross and now. Robin pushes Marian towards the line, but he needs one more moment. She and Roland cross the line, and she's instantly restored. On the otherside Marian can no longer see Robin or anyone still in the town. Regina pushes Robin towards his waiting family. He kisses her one last time, and crosses the line, no longer able to see the love of his life. Robin walks with Marian and Roland away. All Regina has left is their storybook page, which she tears apart and leaves it behind.

The crow flies high, and Rumple has brought the gauntlet as he was asked. Belle is brought forward, and Maleficent is ready to trade. Rumple captures her in a spell. She thought that she could steal from the Dark One, but she has another thing coming. Maleficent isn't alone. Ursula wraps Belle up in her tentacles, threatening to crush Belle. Cruella taunts Rumple as well. They seem to have a sorted past. Cruella tells Ursula to crush Belle, and Rumple ponders for just a moment, before handing over the gauntlet. The villainesses have lived too long allowing the heroes to win, and now its time to turn the tides. They can finally find the heroes' weaknesses. Maleficent free, tells them to release the girl, and she makes them all disappear. Belle doesn't know why Rumple would turn over the powerful gauntlet, but he points out that they won't be able to harm her. She asks why he cares, and he claims not to. If anyone is going to crush her heart he claims.

When the stars in the hat align with those in the sky they will begin. Hook points out that he won't begin but end. Rumple is surprise that he's still so spunky in the face of death, he figured he would have crumpled, but Hook has no plans to crumple before a coward. Rumple opens the moon roof to begin.

Henry and the others marvel over the sorcerer's mansion, headed towards the portal. Anna is overjoyed to see the familiarity of the door. Emma offers to open the door, fearful that the magic could be harmful. Anna thanks Emma for taking such good care of her sister, when they return home she plans to knock Hans off the door. Kristoff hopes that he and Anna could be married soon after, which Anna agrees she would like very much. Elsa says her goodbye to Emma, and Emma opens the door of the portal. Elsa takes the lead and heads in, but Anna pauses for a moment, asking about Gold, having never met him. She wishes she had, thinking him to be some sort of fairy godfather. David tells her that Gold was/is Rumpelstiltskin, and Anna knew him well. Emma is shocked as Rumple told her that he knew nothing of Anna. They had many dealings, and Emma realizes that he was playing them the whole time, but not why.

Rumple unleashes the hat as the gears of the clock turn. The hat manifests itself, floating skywards. It disappears, becoming a grand nebula of stars. Rumple is captured in its light, but Snow and Emma stop him. He can't stop. He's too close, and he's waited too long. Emma tries to use her magic, but he freezes
her. Rumple finally has a chance to finish off Hook, but finds that he cannot crush his heart. Belle has his dagger, and she's commanded him not to. She orders him to drop the heart, which he does, and to release everyone. The nebula goes back into the hat, and the hat back into its box. Belle's next order is to the town line, so they can be alone for what comes next. Rumple has no choice but to do as she asks. She backs him towards the line. She's finally faced the truth. She asks him if he remembers the first time that he saved her life. He traded for her, and that was when she thought she saw something good in him, until today. She found the gauntlet, and realized that all the signs she'd been seeing were correct. Rumple never gave up power for her, and he never will. He told her that the gauntlet would lead to the thing that someone loved most. The gauntlet lead her to his real gauntlet. He tells her that he likes the power, and there's nothing wrong with that. They can have it all. All she wanted was him. She chose him. And she wanted him to chose her too. She did everything for him, and she lost her way trying to help him find himself, but no more. He begs her, he can change for her again. It's too late. Once she saw the man behind the beast, and now there is only the beast. She holds the dagger higher, and commands him to leave Storybrooke. Once he leaves he won't be able to come back, and he doesn't want to lose her. She tells him that he already has though as he crosses the line. Belle turns her back on him, shedding tears. He sheds his own, calling for the love he can no longer see.

Anna shows Elsa a painting of her mother, Ingrid and their other aunt that she found in the East Wing. Elsa turns around to see her sister dressed in her wedding dress. She looks picture perfect, except the bruises on her hands from dethroning Hans. Kristoff sounds like he's slightly worse for the wear. Elsa asks her sister why she postponed her wedding to find out the truth. Anna admits that she wanted her sister to be as happy as she was when she walked down the aisle. The sisters both gush about the amazing smell of chocolate, and then hand in hand they head down the aisle, thus ending our frozen chapter.

Emma holds Hook's heart in her hand, literally. He asks her to be gentle, but she shoves it back inside him as she explains she though it would be more like a bandage, and he pulls her in for a steamy kiss. Our sexy Hook is back.

Emma takes a seat next to Regina. She's not in the mood for a rah rah speech of hope, but Emma points out that she isn't her mother, and offers to be Regina's drinking buddy. Regina orders drinks and Emma tells her that she did the right thing today. Regina cuts short the speech, but its a compliment, not a speech. Regina knows she did the right thing since she's miserable, but Emma points out that Gold is miserable now too, which makes her feel a little better. Henry rushes in with something for his mothers to see.

He brings them to the sorcerer's house. After they left he stuck around and found a secret room. It's a library, but Henry points out that it isn't just any library. He pulls from the shelf a book that looks like his, but blank. All of the books are, they're all potential stories, which may mean that they're in the author's house. Regina is overjoyed, hugging her son. Regina fills Emma in on Operation Mongoose, admitting that she was hoping to find the author to have him write her a happier story. Emma jumps onboard as Operation Mongoose's newest member. She intends to help Regina find happiness.

Six Weeks Later. In the city a bus stops. Rumple gets off it, walking with a limp and his cane. In the past he believed that a time would come when the students surpassed the master, but today is not that day he tells Maleficent, Cruella, and Ursula. Maleficent points out that they made a deal, and he always keeps his deals. Its more a death wish that they're making. But Rumple leaves with the gauntlet in hand, and the trio with little more than a pout. Rumple limps into what looks like an aquarium. Past. Cruella points out that the villains never win, and asks him to join them. Rumple always wins, and they've seriously underestimated him if they think otherwise. Now, Rumple passes the jellyfish. Ursula is tending the fish, but not happily. She tells them that if they don't like what she has for them, they should eat each other. Rumple tsks her, telling her that that attitude is frowned on at the aquarium. Ursula is a little too joyful taking in Rumple's current fall from grace, but he has a story for her. He finally understands the heroes and villains roles, and how the villains always lose. But more so, he finally sees that the rules do apply to him. Now he plans to find the author, and change his mind. He's gonna need her help and that of her fellow villainesses.

And that my friends is the winter finale. Are you sad for Frozen to be done? For Robin and Rumple to be in the real world? I for one am glad to be done with Frozen, and if Rumple is working on getting back into Storybrooke it means Robin can sneak back in too. Once Upon A Time Returns March 1, 2015.

Once Upon A Time S04E09 Recap: Fall

The spell of Shattered Sight has been cast, and Ingrid the Snow Queen waits for the devastating results. Gold congratulates her, she's won so far and he wants to make a deal. The spell is to hit at sundown, it'll bring the darkness soon. She gleefully tells him that it will make everyone rip each other apart. She'll have everything she wants, except that he'll be there too, and it'll be his mission to rip her heart out. He wants his grandson and wife free to leave with him. She accepts.

Emma and the others see that the spell of Shattered Sight is upon them. Emma sees only one option, to leave. They head to the ice wall, and David approaches it with his ice ax. When he hits the wall, another icy peak rises. It causes a fissure though, and Anna's necklace is exposed. Elsa finds it. Everyone splits up looking for ways to separate people from their loved ones for their own safety, and to get them out. Regina wants to take Henry with her to Robin's camp, thinking that her magic would make him safer, but Elsa thinks he'd be safer with her and Emma. She believes that the ribbons on their wrists make them immune to the spell. If the Snow Queen wants to make them their sisters then they won't be harmed. Regina wants Henry with her as long as its safe, and Henry is ok with that.

Belle has found nothing in Gold's shop. The spell is pretty much unstoppable, but there may be a way to vaccine people with someone who has been through the spell. Elsa remembers Anna. Ingrid said that Anna put her in the urn, which she didn't think possible, unless she was under the Shattered Sight Spell. Belle said she could do a locator spell on Anna if they had something of hers, and now she does. Belle looks at Anna's necklace. There's actual mirror dust embedded in the metal. If they can find Anna she can save everyone. Belle plans to have the fairies start putting together the counter-spell. Emma reminds Elsa that she was time traveling when she found Elsa's urn, so there's no telling how old Anna is now. Elsa doesn't care how old she is, she's her sister and she plans to find her. Anna may be able to save them.

Anna and Kristoff defrosted to find Ingrid and the urn bound Elsa. She finds a piece of straw and knows that Gold has to have her. He must have followed Anna, since he would never let something he valued really leave his possession. She needs to find him to get Elsa back, and tell her that she didn't mean anything she said, that she was under a spell. Kristoff thinks that she's assuming a lot, but Anna is sure that she's right, and knows that Elsa is the only one who should be ruling Arendelle. Hans arrives with his brothers, he has other ideas. Hans claims that she attacked the Queen, and traded her to another land, which sounds a lot like treason. Hans crowns himself the new King of Arendelle after what he claims to be Elsa's freezing, sure that no one would protest. Kristoff feigns surrender, but moves for his ax. Anna puts up a fight, and ends up with a sword in her hand which brings everyone to a halt, allowing Anna and Kristoff to get away.

Hook looks over the harbor as a wall of ice rises. No fleeing by boat either. Gold remarks how good the Snow Queen is. She's got them all beat so far. Gold invites him to sit, his heart still in Hook's bag. Hook brings out the Sorcerer's hat. It won't be Emma this time. Instead, Gold wants the fairies that are at Granny's at the moment. Gathering them all, will give him enough power to cleave himself from the dagger and keep his powers intact. Hook is unable to say no with his heart in Gold's possession. Unfortunately, Belle plans to be spending time with the fairies, so Hook has to wait until Gold can get his wife away. Hook puts it together that the fairies are working on the cure. He's condemning the entire town and possibly even his grandson to a horrible fate. Well, maybe not Henry. Gold tells him that he's taking Belle and Henry and leaving everyone else. Everyone else though, he's willing to sacrifice. Hook may not like it, but they're in this together.

Regina watches Robin with his son Ronan. She warns him that the spell is happening, and he needs to scatter his men. Robin yells to Will, that its an emergency and they have to break camp. Regina searches his face, and he asks what else is happening. She wants to remember his face as it is now, with love in his eyes. Everyone else in the town looks at her with hatred, and the thought of Robin looking at her the same way may just kill her. Robin assures her that he loves her.

Emma and Elsa begin their quest to find Anna. Emma pours the spell upon Anna's necklace and it begins to glow. Signs point to the library. Elsa has been in the library before and never saw her sister, but Emma points out that the library is special, and has a whole network of tunnels beneath it, large enough to have held a dragon.
Anna and Kristoff ran their way right out of Arendell. Anna still has retrieving Elsa on her mind, but Kristoff isn't sure he's ready to face down an evil wizard. Anna never said Gold was evil though. Anna tells Kristoff that she has a plan. When she was looking through her mother's diary she tells her that she was looking for something called a wishing star. Anna has no clue what it is, but she assumes that you can wish on it, and just maybe they can use it to wish Elsa back. They tracked it to a pirate, Blackbeard, but her parents didn't find it. Dealing with a pirate sounds better than a wizard. At least with the pirate they may be able to bargain their way to the star.

The snowflake continues to glow brighter and brighter. It comes to a dead end. Elsa is sure that Anna is just on the other side of the rocks. Elsa wants to blast her way through, but Emma takes the cautious route. As much as she enjoyed their last cave-in she's sure they can find another way.

Anna and Kristoff arrive on the harbor, and she says that Blackbeard has something that they're willing to pay anything for. Blackbeard overhears, and he likes the sound of that. She tells him that she's looking for the wishing star, and for the right price he'll give it to her. Kristoff wants to know the right price. Blackbeard merely wants his weight in gold. Anna believed that if they kept the faith things would work out. What they hadn't counted on was Hans catching up to them.

Leroy is sure that they can clear the tunnel. Elsa wants to go now. Regina is upset over Snow slacking over her mayor job. Snow points out that if the Mayor only has to worry about one villain and its herself, that tends to free up her time. Leroy says that its going to take a couple of hours, but they don't have that much time. David arrives, Belle thinks they may be able to do the counter-spell even without Anna. If they pull out the mirror dust it could work, but it will take longer to produce, and it will destroy the necklace. So either they can save all of them, or Anna. Elsa thinks they have time for both, Regina though sees that it could take days to explore the tunnels and find Anna.

Gold and Hook head over to Granny's. He sends Hook around back to wait, knowing that he'll know when the time is right. Belle isn't so happy to see her husband has arrived. They're very close to getting the spell done. Gold offers to wait until Belle is finished. Mother Superior doesn't think its such a good idea that the Dark one be around all the Light magic, but he makes it clear he's not leaving.

Regina wants to get the necklace to the fairies immediately. One life isn't worth risking the entire town over. All of their loved ones will be destroyed otherwise. Emma thinks they can save everyone. Regina points out that she's thinking like a hero again. The Charmings are on Regina's side. They have to do what's best to save the most people, they have to turn over the necklace. They leave Emma to break the news to Elsa, who reluctantly turns over her pouch which holds the necklace. As Emma goes back to the Charmings, Elsa heads down the elevator with the necklace still in hand. There was no way she was giving up on her sister.

Emma, Regina and the Charmings rush over to Granny's and deliver the pouch. In the necklace's place are a handful of mine pebbles. Regina should have known better than to have trusted a blonde. Emma thinks she can run to the mine and retrieve it from her, but Belle tells her it would be too late. Without Anna there, they're screwed. Regina snarkily readies for another speech on hope and blind faith, but Snow points out that its Elsa's blind faith that is screwing them at the moment. Regina finds that admittance terrifying. Emma isn't ready to give up yet. She plans to head into the mine and help Elsa find her sister.

Emma makes it to the mine as Elsa is about to blast through the wall. She's sorry, but she had to try. Elsa blasts the rocks, and expose the beach. The map couldn't be any more wrong. Anna is nowhere to be found though. The necklace is still glowing though. Emma tells her that magic isn't always reliable, and thirty years is a long time. Elsa doesn't believe it's all been a mistake.

Anna doesn't understand how Hans keeps finding them. They didn't leave very inconspicuously, and some well paid informants and a fast ship helped. It was all a trap. Anna thought they hayd a deal with Blackbeard, which makes him laugh. He points out how much she looks like her mother. He thought it was funny that they thought he wouldn't recognize royalty. But he liked them, liked them enough to sell them the wishing star at cost. That doesn't make sense to Anna, she thought they would have used it to take away Elsa's powers. Blackbeard points out that they may not have known that the Wishing Star can only be used by someone of pure heart. If there is another star, Anna still wants to buy it, and says that she can pay as much as Hans can. Well, maybe not. Hans has control of the money too. He throws Blackbeard a pouch of money. Where they're going they don't need money, Hans tells her. Death isn't a place, Kristoff is sure, but Hans intends for them to find out. They're over what's called Poseidon's Boneyard, which happens to be where Anna's mother's ship went down. He wants her bones to mingle with her mothers. Blackbeard has other plans though, and brings out a trunk. No mingling of bones, and no mermaid interference. Anna is sure that Elsa will escape the urn, take back the kingdom, and boot his butt back to the Southern Isles. Hans thinks he has everything undercontrol, right down to the Jolly Roger. If Elsa hadn't escaped in the thirty years that they were frozen, Hans isn't sure she ever will. Anna had no clue they were frozen so long, and Kristoff doesn't understand why Ingrid would unfreeze them now. Anna fears Ingrid is about to do something worse. Hans shuts the lid on the overly talkative Anna, and the chest with her and Kristoff is shoved overboard.

Elsa still has faith that they will find Anna when her necklace suddenly stops glowing. She fears that Anna is really gone.

The chess falls to the bottom of the sea. Water is slowly seeping in, but Kristoff feels a nail and may be able to free themselves.

Elsa mourns Anna. The necklace was found among their mother's things, it was her last gift to Anna, for her wedding day. Emma sees the spell cloud on the horizon. She fears that them being immune to the spell isn't going to save them from everyone turning on them. Elsa thinks that she deserves the worst, to be attacked. All she has left of her sister is her necklace.

Anna has lost all hope as the water rises in the chest. Kristoff frees his hands and unties Anna. She thinks its the end, and she wants to marry him before they die, but Kristoff is sure that this isn't their end. He refuses to marry her unless they get out. He tells her to keep her chin up.

Elsa apologizes for not finding Anna where ever she is. She refuses to give up hope. She wishes that wherever Anna is right now she was with her. The necklace flashes. Looks like Elsa found the other wishing star.

Kristoff and Anna continue to hold onto what little hope they can, and eachother, as the water rises around them. The chest begins to spin.

From the beach Elsa spots something in the water rising and glowing. She isn't sure what it is. And the magic suddenly throws Elsa and Emma back. The chest lands on the beach, popping open. Elsa is overjoyed to have found Anna. Anna realizes that her necklace was the wishing star. There may be time to save the town yet, but first Elsa needs to pull her beloved sister into her arms. Their mother's final letter rises to the shore.

Belle has gotten word that Anna is on her way. The fairies may just be able to craft the counter-spell in time and save everyone, but it'll be dangerous. Gold uses that excuse to get Belle out of Granny's. Hook lies in wait.

Emma rushes Anna over to Granny's while Anna and Kristoff are filled in on the details. The spell can't affect Anna again, since she was already hit with it, and Emma and Elsa are immune because of their ribbons. Anna remarks how funny the world looks, and Elsa couldn't agree more.

Mother Superior carefully measures out the ingredients for the counter-spell when Hook arrives, sucking up all of the fairies. She tries to get away, and the poor guy is really sorry, but he has no choice, sucking her inside of the hat as well. Emma and the others arrive to find everyone in Granny's gone and the place destroyed. Emma realizes that they can't protect everyone now.

Gold takes Belle to the shop, and seals her in for her protection. Hook points out that Belle actually loves him, and that he's risking her love for power. Gold still thinks that he can have both, and intends to. Since Hook did his dirty work, he wants to be free, but Gold isn't done with him yet. He tells Hook to enjoy his last day.

Emma heads back to her parents, looking for Plan B. David is happy to see Kristoff and “Joan” again. Anna likes David's new look, and they get a little introduction to everyone else. More explanations will be had once the spell is complete. Emma wants to move onto the plan, which apparently is to just lock themselves in separate cells. As far as plans go, this one sucks. Emma doesn't want to lock them in. She's worried about the length of the curse, of something happening to her and them starving. Snow has faith in them, they both do. They trust that she will save them all. Snow knows that they are special and that both she and Elsa will use their specialness. Snow hands over her baby as Hook arrives. He needs to see Emma one more time. Emma tells him that she's a terrible good bye kiss person, but just once, she needs to do it. Emma pulls Hook into a quick goodbye kiss before he heads off. The spell is just on the horizon. It's one more adventure.

Regina take Henry to her office. She's sorry. She should have been more focused on Operation Mongoose, but she was too wrapped up following her heart to Robin. He understands, and there will be time for that later. Regina plans to seal him in as Gold sealed in Belle to protect him. Regina is headed to her vault and Robin off to chain himself to a tree. Ronan and Marion are safe somewhere he doesn't even know where. He wants to come with her, but its too dangerous. He doesn't fear her, but he really should. Regina makes it to the vault alone, and seals herself in.

David tells Snow not to fear. Nothing can come between two halves of one heart he tells her. Nothing can come between what they have. Everyone awaits the spell to hit as the mirror shards begin to rain down on everyone. Emma braces to protect the baby, as the mirrors invade. The mirror falls into the eyes of Snow and David, and they unhook hands looking at each other like strangers.
