Creators of ‘Oh Joy Sex Toy’ Bring You ‘Drawn to Sex’

Creators of Oh Joy Sex Toy Bring You Drawn to Sex
The creators of the popular Oh Joy Sex Toy comics, Erika Moen and Matthew Nolan, have teamed up with Limerence Press once again to create Drawn to Sex, a new series that is specifically geared toward approachable and fun sex education! While previous collections of Oh Joy Sex Toy comics have included toy reviews and short stories, Drawn to Sex exclusively covers sex education, making it ideal for educators, and a handy resource for anyone! The first installment of the three-book series, Drawn to Sex: The Basics is out November 7, 2018.

Erika and Matthew are ready to talk about sex! Have you ever had a question about sex, but didn't know who to ask? Well, Erika and Matthew have spent years learning, talking, and creating informative comics about all aspects of sex. Using comics, jokes, and frank communication, they're here to demystify the world of sex and answer your questions—including ones you might not even know you had!

In this first book of the Drawn to Sex series, they explore the practical side of sex, from the basics of what defines sex, to barriers and testing, masturbation, and the ins-and-outs of having sex with other people.

Pick up this fun book if you’re looking to learn something new, understand sexuality better, or know someone (maybe you!) who might benefit from some judgment-free education. Erika and Matthew are here to help you out!

‘The Tea Dragon Society’ Wins Harvey Award at NYCC 2018

The Tea Dragon Society Wins a Harvey Award at NYCC 2018
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
PORTLAND, OR., Oct. 5, 2018 — Oni Press is proud to announce that celebrated children’s graphic novelist, Katie O’Neill, has won the Harvey award for the Best Children or Young Adult Book for The Tea Dragon Society!

"It is a huge honour to receive the Harvey Award! The Tea Dragon Society is one of many works of children’s media this year that are pushing for LGBT-spectrum characters to be seen just as characters, as people who are a natural, visible part of this world,” said Katie O’Neill. “It makes me excited for the future, and for a generation of kids to grow up with a crucial and often vulnerable aspect of their identity accepted and reflected in the media they see. I’m proud to be a part of this, and I’m extremely thankful for all the support and kindness that has been shown towards my book.”
Prior to the Harvey win, this year alone, The Tea Dragon Society acquired two Eisner Awards for Best Publication for Kids (ages 9-12) and Best Webcomic, won the Dwayne McDuffie Kids Comics award, and made the ALA Rainbow List. In 2017, the title also made the list for Amazon.com’s Best Comics & Graphic Novels as well as School Library Journal's Top 10 Graphic Novels.
The Tea Dragon Society is the follow-up to Katie O’Neill’s first book with Oni Press, Princess Princess Ever After (September 2016), is a gentle fantasy that follows the story of a young blacksmith apprentice, and the people she meets as she becomes entwined in the enchanting world of Tea Dragons. The Tea Dragon Society has also taken on its own franchise with the creation of the much-loved Chamomile Tea Dragon plushie that debuted at NYCC in 2017, The Tea Dragon Society Card Game (Oni Games in conjunction Renegade Studios) in June 2018, and the Chamomile Dragon enamel pin at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
The Harvey Awards are one of the comic industry’s oldest and most prestigious awards. Recognizing outstanding achievement in multiple categories, the Harvey’s have been a fixture of the comic industry since 1988. The awards ceremony made its debut at New York Comic Con this year in celebration of the Harvey’s 30th anniversary.

New York Comic Con 2018 also saw the debut of Katie O’Neill’s latest Oni Press title, Aquicorn Cove, out in bookstores October 16th.

‘Banana Sunday’ Is Back—In Color!

The Color Edition of Banana Sundayis Coming This Month!
Paul Tobin and Colleen Coover Team Up with Colorist Rian Sygh
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
PORTLAND, OR., Oct. 5th, 2018 — Creators Paul Tobin and Colleen Coover (Bandette) have teamed up with colorist Rian Sygh (Backstagers) for an all-new color edition of the beloved all-ages fantasy/humor book, Banana Sunday, available October 24th, only from your friends at Oni Press.
Kirby Steinberg is having a bit of trouble fitting into her new school. Sure, there's the usual problems associated with being from "somewhere else," but this time the new kid also happens to be the guardian for three talking primates. Chuck, the professorial orangutan. Knobby, the love-stricken spider monkey. Go-Go, the befuddled golden gorilla. These primates have learned to speak, thanks to the scientific processes of Kirby's father. Or have they? What's their real story? That's what Nickels—Kirby's new best friend and unfortunately dedicated school reporter—would like to discover. Can Kirby find time to develop a relationship with Martin, the dashing nerd? Steer clear of Skye, the high school's #1 pillar of arrogance? Keep Knobby, Chuck and Go-Go from causing untold catastrophes? And, above all, will Kirby be able to hide the real origin of these three simians from Nickels? Oh, probably not.
Publishers Weekly calls Banana Sunday “...brisk entertainment, not so dissimilar from Archie comics but with a decidedly hip, contemporary edge. [Colleen] Coover is a fine cartoonist — she has a light touch and a pretty line. Her characters have a full range of emotion, but retain a sense of elegance. Her work elevates what could have been a mostly silly story into an affecting, well-crafted comic.”

The color edition of Banana Sunday will feature a brand-new introduction by Paul Tobin, and previously uncollected art from Colleen Coover. You can also find this classic kids comic on October 5th, on our new webcomics hub! Additionally, the dynamic duo will also be signing at Books with Pictures in Portland, OR, on November 3 from 5-7pm.

Comics for All! Oni Press Announces a New Comics Web Hub

Oni Webcomics Are Here!
Oni Press Announces a New Comics Web Hub
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
PORTLAND, OR., Oct. 4, 2017— We love reading comics. So much in fact, we want to share them with everyone! Oni Press is now live with our new free webcomics hub for all ages. Learn something, share something, and be a part of a community that loves reading and sharing comics at webcomics.onipress.com. Available now are Spectacle (Megan Rose Gedris), Kim Reaper (Sarah Graley), and our most recent release, Draw Out the Vote, by a variety of creators handpicked by Oni Press editor, Robin Herrera!

Spectacle (Young Adult)
Fan-favorite webcomic creator Megan Rose Gedris (Yu+Me Dream) crafts a compelling tale of magic, deception, and wonder in this stunningly illustrated graphic novel about the bond between sisters. Pragmatic engineer Anna works as a psychic in the Samson Brothers Circus, but she doesn't believe in anything supernatural—until her twin sister Kat is murdered and comes back as a very demanding ghost. Sharing a room with her sister was hard, but now they're sharing a body while trying to identify the killer. With few leads, a troupe full of secretive folk, and strange paranormal occurrences popping up around the circus, solving the case seems near impossible. But the murderer in their midst may be the least of their problems...
Kim Reaper (Young Adult)
All-star cartoonist Sarah Graley (Our Super Adventure) brings you the supernatural queer rom-com Kim Reaper! Like most university students, Kim works a part-time job to make ends meet. Unlike most university students, Kim's job is pretty cool: she's a grim reaper, tasked with guiding souls into the afterlife. Unaware of the ghoulish drama she's about to step into, Kim’s classmate Becka finally gathers up the courage to ask Kim on a date! But when she falls into a ghostly portal and interrupts Kim at her job, she sets off a chain of events that will pit the two of them against angry cat-dads, vengeful zombies, and perhaps even the underworld itself. But if they work together, they just might make it... and maybe even get a smooch in the bargain.
Draw Out the Vote (Non-fiction)
Voting is our civic duty, and Oni Press wants to make it as easy as possible for people to register and vote in 2018. Fifty-two different artists explore what voting, politics, and living in American mean to them in this collection of black-and-white comics. Cartoonists from each state (plus Washington, DC and Puerto Rico) were invited to contribute to the project, which Oni hopes will increase voter awareness and encourage comics readers to vote in the November midterm elections. Included with each comic are instructions on how to register to vote in each state—as well as what to do to actually vote, and other things to note that may affect your ability to vote.

“Expanding the volume of Oni Press comics available on the web has been a long-held goal of mine,” commented publisher James Lucas Jones. “We see this as just the opening salvo in a campaign to bring the work of our astounding creators to more readers with as few barriers to entry as possible. We can’t wait to add both new titles and new functionality to this evolving platform.”
You will find the release of more comics this week, featuring the classic kids comic Banana Sunday by Paul Tobin and Colleen Coover on October 5th, and the action-packed war story Guerillas by Brahm Revel on October 8th, with even more awesome webcomics to come!

‘Morning in America’ is Coming in 2019!

Morning in America is
Coming in 2019!
Magdalene Visaggio and Claudia Aguirre team up for a whole new Oni Press miniseries!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
PORTLAND, OR., Sept. 28, 2018 — Get ready for some high school horror nostalgia! Oni Press is excited to announce a new miniseries by powerhouse team Magdalene Visaggio (Eternity Girl) and Claudia Aguirre (Kim & Kim), Morning in America, with issue #1 to be released March 6th, 2019.
The year is 1983. A series of disappearances afflicts Tucker, Ohio following the opening of a mysterious new factory. But when the town finds itself under siege from strange monsters, it’s up to intrepid girl gang of no-account teen girl delinquents to try and figure out what’s happening—and save everyone's lives before it's too late.
"Oni has been putting out some of my favorite comics for years, from Scott Pilgrim onward,” said Magdalene Visaggio. “And I'm absolutely thrilled that Morning in America is launching there. This book is extremely close to my heart, and Claudia is one of the dearest people in the world to me, so I hope our excite comes through in this dark, hopefully-funny story about monsters, friendship, and the end of the world."
“Drawing this comic has been a pleasure,” said Claudia Aguirre. “I absolutely adore working with Mags to create truly heart-wrenching yet fun stories, and our lovely friends at Oni Press have always been amazing. I hope everyone loves Morning in America as much as we love making it.”
Magdalene Visaggio will be signing at the Oni Press booth #2028 during New York Comic Con, October 3 to October 6th.
