The Flash S1E19 Recap: Who Is Harrison Wells?

Barry is getting faster, faster than he's ever been. He wonders if its because his past is stalking him, if its on the verge of catching up to him. Barry delivers pizza from far away in Coast City Caitlin declines the delicious fare. Joe gives the update. They've had no luck with all the investigation of Dr. Wells. They're thinking to go back to the beginning. Joe and Cisco are heading to the scene of Dr. Wells' accident, since that was when he changed. Caitlin thinks that the loss of the love of his life could have been enough to change him, but Barry thinks its more. He's sure that Wells is the Reverse Flash. Cisco asks her to cover for him while he's away, and that may be too much for her. She doesn't like the lies, the suspicion. Joe isn't sure Caitlin is on board, but Barry is sure she'll come around. He wishes Joe luck , fearful of what he'll find.

Nina is spacey as she lets out her co-worker, and then she gets to work. She goes through a few safe deposit boxes, removing all of the goods. Eddie shows Nina the video. She tells him that it couldn't be her, she left work early.

Eddie tells Barry about the case. Nina has no priors, and everyone who knows her says that she's the nicest person who they would never suspect would do anything like this. Eddie suspects that it could somehow be the work of a metahuman, and Barry agrees. Iris asks where her father is. He's taking some personal days, and she hasn''t been able to reach him. It appears that Iris has been taking some of the same between him and Iris too. Eddie warns Barry that Joe and Cisco had better find something, because he's about done lying to Iris.

A man take some jewelry in to be appraised, and the jeweler takes the diamonds back to take a closer look under his microscope. He calls the police about the stolen gems.
Barry goes to Caitlin to make sure that she's okay with the plan. She isn't. She really doesn't like the lie. Wells has helped him out numerous times, he's saved his life, and he doesn't deserve their suspicions. Wells pokes his head in, asking what they're chatting about. Barry tells him about the current metahuman case he's working, frustrating Caitlin with another lie. He asks about Cisco, and she has to tell him yet another lie about him helping out his cousin. Barry gets a call from Eddie about the diamond thief. He thinks the man has made him, and needs the Flash's help. Barry runs off to help. The man has definitely made Eddie, and Eddie tries to stop him, but he''s a lot more crafty than he looks. He gets away from Eddie, but Flash arrives on scene. He can't' outrun him, but he can outsmart him with his chameleon skills. He changes into the person he touches and continues the game until he loses Barry.

Barry tells Wells and Caitlin about the shapeshifter. They can transform into anyone they're touched. Wells points out that he could even transform into Barry. Caitlin is worried about the exposure of Barry's identity, but Wells isn't sure that the metahuman couldn't also absorb his speed. No touchy the metahuman for Barry. They try to figure out who the shapeshifter could be, and trace the crimes where people swore they were innocent even though they were caught on film. Wells easily traces it back to a month after the particle accelerator exploded. Barry will pass the information along to the police, and Wells is glad he could help.

In Starling City, Joe and Cisco meet with Quentin to get information on the Wells accident. There isn't much, it was cut and dry. Wells and Tess were on a drive, their tire blew, Wells lost control and Tess died. Quentin asks what they''re looking for, but Joe isn't sure. Cisco asks to be taken to crime scene. Its been 15 years, and Quentin thinks the pictures will be a better lead, but he's happy to take them. Laurel comes to pick up some statements, and her father makes some introductions. Recognizing Cisco's name, she asks if she can talk to him alone. He's more than happy to follow Laurel anywhere. Quentin asks after Barry, if he's okay after getting struck by lightening, and Joe says he's fine.

Laurel leads Cisco to a private room, he asks her how she knows Barry. They aren't friends, rather friend adjacent. Cisco doesn't spill Team Arrow's secrets, claiming that the three that she's mentioned have nothing in common, but Laurel is in the know about the secret identities. He asks how she knows, and she reveals that she's Black Canary. Cisco is quite enamored, and suspicious. Laurel has been using Sara's sonic device, and wants to know if he can modify it. He has a few ideas.

Caitlin does a little of her own research on Wells.

Wells arrives home, and dechairs. He pours himself a drink when Caitlin rings his bell. Grumpily he goes back to his chair to answer the door. Barry flashes Caitlin out of there, leaving no trace of her behind. Caitlin wanted to get some answers from Wells directly. Barry tells her that she cannot talk to him. She can't let them destroy him and her over their suspicions. When Barry was in a coma, she experienced the worst time of her life. She lost her fiance, her reputation. Wells stood by her side and told her it was going to be okay. If Wells is who they say he is, then everything she's worked for has been a lie. If Barry is right, and she tells Wells then he'll never be able to get his dad out of prison. Caitlin can't believe he's pulling the dad card, but she's willing to wait until Joe and Cisco get back.

Eddie and Barry go to check out the best friend of the first likely shapeshifter case. Hannibal hasn't been seen in a year, his grandmother filed a missing person for him. She's a little confused when they ask her about it, she forgot she made the filing. She claims her memory is failing, and awkwardly asks to get them some coffee or tea. She insists on it. Eddie and Barry look around while she gets refreshments, but really she's busy making a break for it. They split up to search for granny, who's morphed into a younger form. Barry calls into Wells and Caitlin. They advise him not to let Hannibal see him running at Flash speeds or touch him. He has to give chase like a normal person. Eddie stays hot on the suspect's trail. A patrol car comes to assist, the officers get out asking what Eddie wants them to do. He shoots them, and the camera recording the incident. Barry breaks into Flash speeds. The fake Eddie gets away, while the real Eddie finds the down officers. Barry arrives, and Eddie tells him to call 911, as sirens close in.

DA Cecile and Captain Singh look over the video where it looks like Eddie shot the two officers. Captain Singh knows that his officer is innocent, but it looks bad. All she can do is keep him out of Gen Pop at this point. Captain Singh asks if Barry has any way to explain it all, he doesn't yet, but he will. Iris comes in a panic, she''s heard the news. Barry tells her that she can't see Eddie at the moment, but he'll uncover the truth.

Quentin arrives to the scene of the Wells accident with Joe and Cisco. Cisco has a super metal detector that picks up sound waves. Joe and Quentin bond over their daughters. Joe and Iris have a pretty strong bond he tells him. Quentin and Laurel went through a rough patch, she lied about something pretty big, and they're still working through it. Cisco interrupts. He's found some tacheons, little bits of time travel. Joe asks if he's sure, and Quentin's coffee does a little floaty display confirming Cisco's findings.

DA Cecile questions Eddie who insists that he did not shoot the officers. Barry races in with the test results of Eddie's hand swab. He didn't have any traces of gun residue. DA Cecile points out that it still looks like he fired his gun. Barry insists that it was just someone who looked like Eddie. The DA fires back that he's suppose to be the scientist. Even Eddie has to admit that the video looks damning. Barry is sure that they can convince her. Eddie is sure that they'll put him away. Barry uses his speed to get him out of the building. He tells Eddie to go to STAR Labs, and that they'll set him up with a burner phone. Eddie refuses to run. Barry can't stand by while an innocent man is sent to prison. Eddie tells him that Barry isn't a child, and he's not his father. He has faith that Barry can find Hannibal and clear him. Barry agrees. He takes him back. Eddie tells him to get him out of there the right way.

At home. Barry talks to Iris on the phone. He's just there to shower before he plans to return to his lab and work on clearing Eddie. There's a knock at the door, and its Eddie. Barry is very surprised to see him. Eddie tells him that Captain Singh called in a favor and got him released. He was just on the phone with Iris, and he asks why he didn't call her. He turns his back on Eddie, and Eddie knocks him out. It's Hannibal. He assumes Barry's form. Poor Barry is tired and taped up. Hannibal goes through his wallet when Caitlin arrives. She thinks that she has a way for the shapeshifter to stop shifting. She explains it to the wrong Barry, and immediately sees that something is wrong with him. She knows that it has to be hard for him, with him trying to solve his mother's murder and all. She asks if they can bury the hatchet between and work together to find this “Everyman.” Hannibal likes the nickname she's given.

Cisco gets to digging where the tacheons are and Joe spots a hand. Cisco isn't so excited about the find. Quentin wants to call it in, but Joe doesn't want him to do that just yet. Joe insists. If its who he thinks it is, then anyone who knows about it is in danger, including his daughter.

Caitlin thinks that she's got the concoction completed, she just needs to give the thing a spin. Hannibal Barry continues acting oddly. He asks if the serum will rid him of his powers permanently, or temporarily. It'll only be long enough for them to stop him. Barry bumps into Caitlin and she asks him what he's doing as she heads to her desk. He grabs her, and kisses her. Caitlin knows something is really wrong. He kisses her again, and an alarm sounds. Iris is coming. She's been looking for Iris everywhere. She was thinking that it may have been someone who has done this before. She did the same research that Wells did before. She then hacked into the police footage for Eddie's video. Caitlin stares at Barry, while he acts dismissive of Iris. She tells him to look again. Eddie isn't left handed. Iris knows that Eddie is being framed. She gets all puffed up about it, and Hannibal Barry pulls the gun out of his pocket, but doesn't get a chance to use it as Wells tazes him. Iris is shocked. Wells tells her that her observations were spot on. The man on the floor is left handed as well. Iris wants to take him in. Wells thinks that Caitlin and he should keep the man instead. Caitlin sides with Iris, and offers to help her.

In the car, Iris tells Caitlin about Mason, who kept a file about all of the unexplained events of the city, and how Hannibal belongs in that file. Caitlin jokes that it must be a large file. At the light Iris tells her that in that file was also the burning man. Caitlin gives good poker face, and tells her she thought that was just legend. Hannibal wakes up, transformed into a little girl and screams for help. Some construction workers come to see the commotion. Caitlin tells Iris to drive, but there's no place for her to go. The men open the door, and Hannibal slips from her cuffs, taking off. Caitlin yells that she's dangerous, but the little girl gets far away.

Still all taped up at home, Caitlin finds Barry still unconscious. She slaps him awake. He tells her that smelling salts works just as well. He also tells her that Hannibal was there, but she already knows that.

Joe has found what he was looking for. Quentin thanks him for getting him out of the office for the day. He'd still be a detective if he could, the body just can't take it anymore. Joe sees Laurel. He knows something that could make it better.

Laurel sees Cisco packing up. She asks him if he had a chance to work on her item. He did. He made it smaller and better, with a much larger range. She's surprised that he was able to make it so quickly. He's had some workings with sound waves recently. He thinks she should call it the canary cry, and she likes the name. She gives him an envelope telling him that if he shows it to anyone she'll kill him, and she means it. Inside is a picture of the two of them, her in the full black canary costume. It was worth it.

Wells shows them how Hannibal's powers work. He can look like anyone, but he can't appropriate memories or abilities. Touching is back on the table. And best yet. Caitlin has made a serum that will stop him from changing. Barry thanks Caitlin, and she jumps at his touch. No touching for her. They get a ping Barry's cell phone. Barry heads to the airport. Barry looks around, not recognizing anyone. He notices a woman in the body scanner, and her image jerks on the screen. Barry has found the shapeshifter. Hannibal assumes the form of the security guard as he tries to make a getaway. Barry isn't fooled, and he goes all Flash on him. He corners Hannibal who shifts into Caitlin. She begs not to be hurt as she pepper sprays him. Flash gets back up, knocking Hannibal down, who shifts into Iris. Barry doesn't even pause this time. Hannibal shifts to Eddie next, and then to Flash. It's Flash on Flash, but Hannibal doesn't have Barry's speed. Barry gives him the smack down, and he uses the serum on him. The serum takes hold immediately, and Hannibal shifts through forms. When he turns into Iris he collapses.

Eddie has been released. Captain Singh watches the security camera footage with DA Cecile. This is unlike anything that she's ever seen. She isn't sure that the law can deal with this kind of criminal. Captain Singh is thankful that the Flash is around to handle stuff like this. Barry gives her a list of the other crimes that Hannibal was involved in. It's a very long list with many innocent people to be cleared. The DA admits that she saw the Flash in person once, and it was pretty cool. Eddie tells Iris that the charges have been dropped. She's so happy about it. He has more to confess. He needs to tell her the reason that he's been so distant lately. He reveals that he's been working with the Flash.

Behind his glass case, Hannibal tries to appeal to Barry as Iris, then Caitlin to release him. Caitlin can't believe that anyone would fall for that. Wells has seen Hannibal take many forms, but wonders which is his actual one. Hannibal changes into a bald male, with no eyes, admitting that he cannot remember. It makes them all feel a bit uneasy. They close up shop, and seal the prison. Barry has something to show Caitlin.

Barry takes Caitlin to the remains that Joe and Cisco found. They've run the DNA multiple times, its definitely Wells. There is a reason that Wells completely changed after the accident, because he was a different person.

At the police station, Wells has arrived to give Eddie his regards, when Joe spots him. It was a close call for Eddie. Wells asks Joe if he enjoyed his time in Starling City. Joe tells him that there wasn't much time for sight seeing, he was working on a case. Wells use to work there, but he doesn't go back. There are too many memories of Tess. He points out that Joe knows that kind of loss too. He never talks of Iris's mother. Joe doesn't. Wells thinks that they're both members of an exclusive club, one where the membership is too expensive. He proposes that they have a drink again sometime. Joe thinks that they should.

Cisco flips through some pictures. After the explosion he made a map of STAR labs, but he never when through the schematics to see why the accelerator malfunctioned outside of the tunnel. As he searches he finds a room that should not be there. Cisco, Barry and Caitlin head to the location. Cisco finds tacheons where the room should be. They enter inside and not only find Wells's Reverse Flash suit, but also the newspaper with the headline of the Flash disappearing during the crisis.

Arrow S03E11 Recap: Midnight City

Felicity tries to talk Oliver out of his duel. She isn't worried about that he can't beat him, but that he can't kill him, that it isn't in his make-up anymore. Oliver tells her that he'll stay, and that he loves her. Someone is clearly dreaming. Felicity and Oliver kiss, and she jumps back in horror as blood pours out of his mouth, and a knife is in his gut.

Oliver awakens. Maseo brought Oliver to the cabin. He didn't realize that he and Tatsu were still in contact. She reveals that they haven't been. Maseo comes in and sees Oliver up and about, when he shouldn't be. He helps him back to bed. If Ra's finds out that Maseo helped him, he'll kill him, but Maseo tells him not to worry about that. Maseo warns him that his concern should be for his home, and what its become in his absence.

A girl runs, from her would be attacker. He tells her that had she chosen a different alley she would have been free. Black Canary arrives on the scene and tells the girl to run. The guy meets Black Canary head on, but Laurel is no Sara, and he gets the upper hand on her, telling her that this is Brick's town now. Lucky for Laurel, Arsenal arrives, and takes out the trash. It's time they have a little chat.

Roy patches up Laurel, stitches and all. Dig taught them how to suture, but he's clearly not as talented as Felicity. He tells her that her grief isn't enough to help her out there, he's had a lot of training. Dig is on the same page, she's certifiable if she thinks she can wear her sister's mask. She knows he's right, but Oliver, the Arrow is gone. She thinks that Canary sends the same message, but Diggle points out that they don't fear her, they fear her sister.

Felicity sits at her desk, when Ray comes in. She thought he would be there later, but he had the meeting moved up with the new threat in town. Felicity hopes that he means to help with his money, and not a suit that shoots lasers. Ray makes a joke, and tells her that his suit can't actually fire the beams of light since she won't fix his nanite chip. Felicity isn't interested in assisting him on his suicide mission.

Thea runs into Chase. He's there to get his gear, but she's there to just do her job. He asks if they're okay after their moment, but she claims that he thinks too highly of his kissing skills. He teases that she must have a pretty high opinion of them too, unless she needs a reminder. Merlyn arrives and Thea runs out the meet him. He went by her apartment to see how her packing was going, but she's not packing. She can't leave until she knows what happened to Oliver. Merlyn tells her that they're in danger and she's not ready for the truth. She's just sure she's not ready to leave Starling City. Roy oversees the whole exchange.

Quentin meets with Laurel. He asks if she's heard from her sister. He thinks that Sara is back in town. Before Laurel can stick her foot in her mouth, the meeting begins about Brick. Brick has been a huge problem, and all of the men that were sent after him were taken out. They need more men, which means more money. Ray and Felicity arrive. He's made a large donation, and although that will help, he thinks that the National Guard should be called in. Brick arrives and causes havok. He wants the mayor, and orders the death of everyone else. Ray moves to protect Felicity in the shootout, as he, Quentin and Laurel take out as many guys as possible. After the chaos is over, Ray points out that this is the exact reason he needs a suit.

Back in the cabin, Maseo pours some tea and heads out. Oliver tells Tatsu that she cannot let him go back to Ra's. Maseo blames himself, and sometimes death is preferable to the agony of life.

Hong Kong, five years ago. Maseo and Oliver stake out a club. They think that they know where Tatsu is being held. Oliver asks if he would do anything to get her back, and he would. The pair are disarmed and pulled in by guards. China White is waiting for them, and Maseo had a deal with her, betraying Oliver. He wants to see his wife, but once he does, he'll hand over the thing she desires.

Quentin checks on Felicity, but she's worried about his heart. He's fine he tells her, but he noticed that no one in a hood came to their rescue. Felicity tells him that Oliver is gone, which doesn't make sense to him since Sara is back. That admission confuses Felicity. Someone tell him now. Quentin tells her that a masked blonde has been taking out Brick's men. Felicity admits that she's sort of been out of the loop lately.

Laurel goes to question one of Brick's thugs. He was doing pretty well for himself before joining up with Brick. He refuses to talk, and Laurel playfully warns that she has another heel still. She asks about his role in a death, but he claims to know nothing about it. She tells him his file says otherwise. He's not one for taking the credit for crimes he didn't commit, but Laurel reminds him that she can charge him with whatever she wants, especially after his little stunt, and he would be held until the trial. She would hold him in the same prison of the family of the murder victim. If she does that he won't last a day, but she's willing to take that gamble unless he tells her where she can find Brick. He doesn't want to play, but Laurel is serious and he really has no options, so he tells her what she wants to know.

Merlyn returns home, and Roy has followed him. He's not sure why Merlyn wants Thea to leave, but thinks that he should stay away from her. Merlyn thanks him for his human. Roy wasn't joking. Merlyn is poison, and he put a bullseye on Thea when he had her kill Sara. Merlyn tells him that she will never know about Sara. Roy knows Thea, and he knows that she will not stop until she knows the truth, and when she figures it out, she will leave him. Roy knows from experience. Merlyn points out that its a family matter, and Roy isn't family.

Felicity looks after Ray's wounds. She knows that the fight couldn't be easy for him. Ray admits that it brought back memories of Anna, but then it became about protecting Felicity. He admits that he went about the suit project all wrong. At first it was about avenging Anna, but it became about protecting the people he cares about, namely her. Can we all say awwww together?

Roy and Laurel suit up, and she's taking Sara's weapon. Dig thought that they were on the same page, but Roy tells him that Laurel found out where Brick was with the hostages. They have to move, and do it soon if they plan to save any of them. Dig wants Laurel to talk him and Roy through to the location, but Laurel refuses to back down. She knows she's not her sister, but she's not staying home either. Dig warns Roy to stay close to Laurel.

Brick and his men head to another location. They didn't get their hands on the mayor, as they had planned. Arsenal fires a few arrows, stopping the vehicles. Canary comes from above to rescue the people, as Brick goes after Arsenal. Laurel manages to open the doors for the hostages before Brick double backs. Lucky for her he doesn't like to hit women, so he tosses her aside, and gets the van moving again. Arsenal fires an arrow into Brick, and he retaliates by shooting one of his hostages.

The news reports that Brick is still at large as the Police and Quentin watch. A bruised Laurel arrives, and Quentin pulls his daughter aside as they show footage of what he thinks is Sara. They've been running footage of her and Arsenal all night. He asks if Sara has made contact, and Laurel tells him that she hasn't. Someone let Quentin in on the fact that his other daughter is dead, the fact that he can't tell that Black Canary Laurel isn't Sara is ridiculous. Brick makes a call to the Mayor. He's a little upset over the city vigilante problem. Brick quotes Shakespeare to her. He wants to parlay with her in person. She refuses to negotiate, especially not in person. She's already going to one funeral, and warns her that she'll attend many more if she isn't at their designated meeting place.

Merlyn pays Thea a little visit, and no she isn't packing. He doesn't want to lose her, but telling the truth is a little difficult. Merlyn tell her that they're on the run from Ra's because thinks Merlyn betrayed his code. He joined up with Ra's after the death of his wife, and it lead to the death of his son. Thea is all he has left, and he doesn't want to lose her too.

Laurel listens to more news reports on her laptop about her fallen co-workers. Felicity pays Laurel a visit, and she came to ask her if things are okay. Laurel figures that she came to talk some sense into her, but Laurel isn't sure she has to bother. Brick killed someone in front of her, and she thought that being Sara would make it hurt less, but it didn't. It hurt more. She won't be wearing the mask anymore. She's not strong enough to fight for Sara. Felicity tells her that maybe it isn't about Sara, or Oliver or those they've lost. Maybe they do this for the people who are still there, the ones who need them.

The Mayor prepares for her meeting with Brick. He's cocky and confident driving out into the open with no care that the area is surrounded by the police. His collateral insures that they won't act hasty. He asks Ray why he's there, if its merely to look important. Brick thinks he has the city in the palm of his hand, but the night is still young. Brick tells him that all of his money won't help him, but Ray has a lot of money. Brick wants all of the police presence out of the Glade. It's an absurd request, they can't abandon an entire district.

Quentin calls to Felicity, and tells her Brick's demand. They need all the help they can get immediately. The Arrow may be gone, but she thinks she knows where she can find the Canary.

In the mountains, the storm has passed. Maseo prepares to leave, but Oliver tells him that he doesn't have to leave, he can still have a life. Maseo claims to not want one. Tatsu stops him. She still loves her husband, and she kisses him goodbye. Maseo hesitates to leave, as Ra's men come out of the trees. The jig is up, they've been found. Maseo waits by the fire as the men barge in, Oliver and Tatsu are nowhere in sight. They ask what he's doing there. Maseo tells them that he was told to find and bring back Oliver's body, but he found tracks and followed them to the cabin, where there was no further sign. He makes to leave, when the men hear Tatsu. One goes to look, and she cuts him down with a sword. Maseo springs to action, killing the others as Oliver stays in hiding.

Past. Maseo tells him that Tatsu is the mother of his son, and Oliver shouldn't judge him. Oliver is so judging him. Matseo hands over the item China White wanted, and claims it to be the real deal, but she tests it. She finds it to be a fake, and orders all of them to be killed. Maseo, Oliver and Tatsu spring into action, and get away into the club with Oliver leading the way, grabbing a gun. The trio make it out of the club.

Roy beats himself up over the death. The man died because of decision that he made, but Dig tells him not to blame himself. That death is on Brick. Dig pours them a drink, and shares with him a ritual that he and Oliver use to do when they had a rough night. They take the drinks, and Roy realizes that they can't win this battle without Oliver, that Felicity was right. Felicity and Laurel arrive, and Felicity admits that she was wrong, which doesn't happen often. Laurel tells them that they talked to her father, and the Mayor is going to cave to Brick's. It's up to them to make this right. Oliver's mission may be over, but theirs isn't. This is their home, and they need to protect it.

Quentin argues with the Mayor. He thinks that she's making the wrong decision, and he refuses to be the one to give the order. If she wants to doom a district, she's going to be the one to make the actual call. “Sara” calls her father. Laurel uses a voice machine to apologize to her father. She tells him that she's there to help. She needs to know everything that he has on the hostage, no matter how insignificant. He tells her that he isn't holding back any information, but if they don't move quickly, the one with the pace maker won't make it. That information helps, they may be able to track him that way. Roy tells Laurel to gear up.

Felicity drops in on Ray's meeting, interrupting him. She needs the keys to his helicopter. She promises not to crash it. Ray isn't confident in her aeronautic abilities, since she didn't know that helicopters don't have keys. She asks him if its on the roof, and he admits that it is. She runs off to retrieve the helicopter, and he plans to hold her to the no crash promise.

Diggle flies the helicopter with Canary and Arsenal inside. He hasn't flown for over five years, and Arsenal hopes its like riding a bike, as Felicity plays navigator from their lair. The trio arrive via chopper, and the bad guys get the call that there's a copter in the area when its pretty much too late. Canary and Arsenal spring into action, kicking butt along the way. Laurel's canary is so ungraceful compared to Sara. I get that she's no trained assassin, but still, it's just not pretty to watch. Arsenal and Canary make it to the hostages, and they get them out, but Brick catches up to them and cuts Canary off from the pack. She needs a getaway, and Brick is hot on her trail. He just may make an exception for his dislike of hitting women for her. He thinks that he'll keep the city safe, but Canary isn't buying it. The copter is in place, and Canary leaps from the window, catching the ladder as Diggle flies away.

Maseo returns from burying the bodies, they won't be found. Oliver knows that he plans to return to Ra's but points out that Ra's won't accept him back. Maseo slices his own throat, he'll claim it was inflicted by Oliver when he escaped. Oliver tells him he can just come back to Starling City with him. He turns his back, and prepares to leave his friend and his wife once more. Maseo is clearly torn about it, and he hesitates outside.

Past. Maseo is happy to be home with son and wife. Oliver pulls him aside. If he had a fake virus sample, and planned to use it he should have told him. Maseo admits that he didn't know it was fake. Amanda Waller knew he would try something like that and must have switched out the samples before he took it. Oliver can't believe he was willing to risk so many people dying for his wife. It was for his wife, for his family, and there isn't anything he wouldn't do for them. Tatsu thanks Oliver for helping to save her life.

“Sara” goes to see her father. He tells her that because of her the hostages were saved. The police are being pulled out of the Glades anyways. Brick has the home address of every city council member he revealed, and she caved. “Sara” goes to leave, but Quentin stops her, asking her to join him for dinner at her favorite Chinese restaurant. She tells him that she can't, but he sees it as avoidance. She promises to tell him what's wrong, but not tonight.

Merlyn sits on Thea's balcony. He asks if she's ready to leave, but she's not leaving. He told her they were in danger, and who was after them, but not why. He did, he said that Ra's Al Ghul wanted them dead. He will want them dead anywhere, so why not stay and fight. He taught her to stand her ground, to stay and fight, and Ra's should be the one to fear them. Merlyn agrees to stay.

Felicity tells Ray that his helicopter is back. It wasn't crashed, and it did have keys. She gives him his nanite chip as a peace offering. The reason he couldn't get the chip to function is that he needed a quantum processor. The end result is elegant. He thought she wasn't going to help him on his suicide mission, but she hopes if she does he won't die.

Chase heads into the club and makes another excuse to see Thea. He's cheating on her with another club. He heard a rumor that she was headed out of town, but she has no intention of that. Chase goes to collect his hard drive, and makes a call. He's one of the assassins. He calls Maseo and tells him that Merlyn isn't planning on skipping town. Maseo plans to pass along the message to Ra's.

Arrow S03E04 Recap: The Magician

Nyssa holds Oliver and Roy at arrow point still. She wants to know where Sara is. She can for the league to Starling City a few weeks ago, and she hasn't been heard from since. Oliver barely needs to say anything, Nyssa knows. She asks if it was an arrow, and where the body is before she runs off with barely an explanation and the location of her grave. Oliver knows that she knows something and sends Roy off to follow her discreetly.

Oliver meets up with Thea. He's late as usual, but in decent spirits. Oliver tells her that dinner is on him. Thea thought that he was broke. She isn't exactly anymore. She missed her club, and it turns out that a lot of other people did too, and she has investors. Its great news, but Oliver can't help but notice how different she is now that she's returned. He asks if she's dating someone new, and Thea hopes he's not asking for Roy. She's not dishing, and asks him to just be her big brother.

Past. Oliver trails someone, but he doesn't look like a terrorist. Oliver doesn't like the fact that Amanda is treating him like a gun she can just point whenever she wants.

Laurel gets some company at Sara's grave. Nyssa has come to pay her respects. She gives her condolences to Laurel, but Laurel doesn't want them. Her sister died with arrows in her chest, which would have never happened had she not met Nyssa. Nyssa and her father unleashed a darkness within Sara that she was never able to escape. Sara had darkness inside her long before Nyssa came along, Nyssa found her and protected her. She loved Sara dearly.

Roy reports in on Nyssa's whereabouts. Nyssa looks over the bare room that was Sara's. Oliver surprises her, but Nyssa doesn't want to talk. Oliver could use her help to take down the person who killed Sara, but Nyssa doesn't need his help. The house was Sara's safehouse, and Oliver finds some of her favorite food there. He surmises that her target was likely her killer. Nyssa reveals that Sara came to check out some whispers she'd heard that an enemy of the league was in Starling City, that Malcolm Merlin was still alive. Merlin was a member of the League of Assassins until he was released from his vow so long as he lived by the rules. He did not. The League thought that Arrow had killed him, but then there were rumor's that Moira had helped him fake his death. Now it appears that he has resurfaced. Sara had tracked him to the city, she was going to retrace his steps. Using a flame they find Sara's last note. She may have reached out to her father for help.

Quinton Lance scolds his men, as his chief asked, but rewards his men for a job well done with a round on him. Laurel asks about something Sara had called her about, Jansen. Lance takes a seat to explain a little. Sara had come and asked him to say nothing to Laurel about Jansen. He worries that she's getting in over her head, but she says she isn't. Lance asks about Nyssa, who's just walked into the precinct. Laurel speaks to her in private. Her father doesn't know about Sara yet, he has a heart condition. Nyssa believes he has a right to avenge his daughter. Nyssa is biting her tongue for Sara's sake, both of them are. Lance barely recognizes Nyssa outside her costume, and asks if Sara is in town too. Nyssa lies, telling him she isn't but that she sends her love. Lance gives Laurel the information on Jansen. Sara had promised no assassinating, Nyssa promises only justice.

Team Arrow follows up on Sara's last lead with Nyssa. She goes off before they can get their game plan fully out there. The boys split up to canvass the place, only Diggle is without a cool costume or a quiver of arrows. Arrow thinks that he has eyes on Jansen and Nyssa, but he doesn't have eyes on Jansen at all. Diggle and Roy have found that Jansen is dead. The man that Nyssa has closed in on is Merlin himself. He's prepared for her though, and uses a flash bomb to disappear before she can take him out or Arrow can assist. Arrow manages to nick him as he makes his getaway.

They return to the lair. Laurel wants to know if they found Sara's killer, and Oliver breaks the news that Merlin is still alive, Sara was tracking him, and they think that he caught up to her first. Even though Merlin escaped them, Oliver managed to hit him with an arrow laced with nanites, and they have a program thanks to Felicity to trace him. Laurel is upset that Oliver shot Merlin but didn't kill him. Oliver isn't a killer anymore, he can find Merlin anywhere he goes now. How many more people have to die before Oliver is willing to kill him. Laurel leaves in anger, and Nyssa goes with her. Roy heads to Thea's just in case Merlin contacts her, and Diggle gets to man the idiot-proof tracking program while Oliver hits the streets.

Past. Oliver follows his mark, who isn't as innocent as he appears. Oliver grabs him, stabbing him through the heart. His job is done.

Laurel isn't really in the mood to talk after the bombs that have been dropped. Nyssa understands. She promised Sara and now shes promising Laurel that she will find Merlin. They had Merlin, and Laurel doesn't want him slipping away again. She wants Nyssa to do whatever it takes to put an end to Merlin, once and for all.

Roy heads to the club, but gets an icy welcome from Thea. There is still a lot of stuff to be done before the club reopens. Roy offers to help as just friends, and Thea agrees.

Diggle gives Arrow Merlin's location. They decide to not give Nyssa the information for fear that she kill Merlin before they can get answers. Merlin isn't at the warehouse. He figured out Arrow's little secret, and although he too wants to talk, he'd rather it be on his own terms. He chooses a very public place, and tells Arrow to come alone. Should he have company, Merlin won't show.

Oliver arrives completely alone. Merlin greets him happily, impressed with how far the city has come with Oliver watching over it. Merlin chose the very public place for safety. He knows Sara was murdered, and he knows there's a bounty on his head. Oliver struggles with his whole no kill vow. Ra's Al Ghul placed the blood bounty on his head, there's no reason that Merlin would kill the love of his daughter's life when he was trying to get it lifted. Sara died trailing him, it seems a little too coincidental. Merlin came back for the simplest and nobelist reasons, Thea. Thea was almost killed by Slade's men. Oliver thought that Thea had made it out before the attacks, but she didn't. While he was running around playing hero, it was Merlin that protected her. He plans to stay at a distance from Thea, but he will protect her, since Oliver continues to prove that he cannot. He swears on Thea's life that he is not Sara's killer.

It's a new day, a new meeting with Thea. Oliver looks exhausted. He promised Thea that there will be no more secrets, no more lies, and he wants to open up to her. He thinks he knows what their mother was going to tell them on the night that she died. He asks about the train station. She was attacked by one of Slade's men. She lies that she thinks a police officer shot him. Oliver breaks it to her that it was Merlin, and she looks unhappy about the revelation, as if she wasn't keeping the same secret. Her lying could use a little work, her poker face sucks. Oliver tells her not to worry though, that if he was going to contact her he would have done so by now. Thea excuses herself with a call, and Oliver wonders if she's okay. She tells him she is, but he's not completely buying it.

Nyssa returns looking for Oliver. She isn't happy to hear that they met with Merlin without her. Oliver informs her that Merlin didn't kill Sara. He swore on his daughter's life. The league had heard that he had a child, but didn't know the identity of the child. Oliver confesses that Thea is that child, to Roy's dismay. Thea is the reason that Merlin came to Sterling City, he's there to protect her. In his own twisted way he loves Thea, and he swore on her life that he is not the killer. And Nyssa swore that she would kill Sara's killer, which she still believes is Merlin. Oliver tries to stop her, but Diggle reasons with Oliver. He understands all of the reasons that Oliver can't kill Merlin, but irregardless of whether he killed Sara or not, Merlin is still bad news and the world is better off if he isn't in it. Oliver may have made a no kill vow, but Nyssa did not.

Past. Oliver returns to Maseo's home. His wife isn't there. She isn't happy that Oliver is there, and Oliver isn't happy that he is there either. Oliver had to kill a man that day. Maseo reminds him what's at stake. They don't always need to know why they're carrying out a mission, but sometimes they have to be carried out anyways. Oliver never knew a conscious could be such a burden. Oliver tries to get Maseo's son to let him use his computer. He barters computer time for candy. He gets on the internet for all of a second before demanding a meeting with Amanda Waller.

Roy continues to help out Thea with her club. It gives him something to focus on, and she likes his company, but is a little remiss that he's not still trying to get in her pants. Why are there even pants where Roy is concerned? Nyssa drops in on the couple, all assassin garbed. Roy jumps to protect her, but Nyssa hits him with a tranq dart. Thea steps in as menacing as a kitten. Nyssa didn't come to harm Roy, she came for Thea.

Merlin looks for Thea at her apartment, but she isn't there. He sees some purple smoke signals, and doesn't like it.

Laurel isn't happy to learn that Merlin is back and alive, and that he's Thea's father. Having just been initiated into the circle of trust she isn't pleased to find that there are still secrets. When she struck out looking for Nyssa or Thea, she looked for strange and found that purple smoke bomb. Sara never said much about the League, but she did say their communication system was a little outdated. Oliver springs into action with a plan. Laurel is sorry for sending Nyssa after Merlin, and she reminds him that although he may not be a killer that Merlin is.

Thea hangs upside down, and the look is not a good one on her. Nyssa apologizes for putting her through this, but it is necessary. Being bait sucks. Nyssa is after the Magician, Merlin. Nyssa thinks that he will die when she catches him. Her father may be the demon by Thea's is the devil. An arrow cuts Thea down, and Arrow catches her, sending her off to safety. Arrow and Nyssa go for a little hand to hand when Merlin joins the party. There's a little misunderstanding, but Nyssa is still not listening, willing to take on both men rather than hear what he has to say. Merlin pins Nyssa, and Arrow disarms him. Nyssa calls for Merlin's blood, but he remains adamant that he did not kill Sara. Instead he points that her own father doubted Sara's loyalties the moment she was brought home. She knows what her father is capable of and they both know what he is capable of. Merlin turns his attention to Oliver. If he doesn't believe him, he suggests that he kill him. Merlin turns to walk away, and Oliver raises his arrow. He could have him arrested, but Merlin would get away in no time. There is no prison that could hold him, which only leaves him the option to break his own vow and kill him. Oliver can't kill his sister's father.

Thea is okay. She doesn't know who took her. Nyssa punches Oliver, upset that he let Merlin go. He loved Sara at one time, and he will kill the person who actually killed her. He warns Nyssa that as long as Merlin is in his city, that he is under his protection and that the League will make no move against him. Nyssa is shocked to hear that he would incur the wrath of the League of Assassins and warns that he made an enemy that night. Oliver will do what he has to to find the truth. Laurel makes sure that he's sure, and he is. Felicity arrive as Nyssa leaves, missing all the fun.

Past. Amanda Waller isn't very happy to be summoned by one of her operatives, and she hates Hong Kong. She knows all about his past, and he needs to know more. He asks about the USB drive that the man he murdered killed, who had information about something she'd rather not come to light. Dead men can tell no tales, but Oliver is anything but, and warns her that he can have the information in the hands of every blogger if anything happens to Maseo's family. The world is more complicated though. Waller took out an entire plane to take out one woman, one that he saved. Chen Na Wey is in Hong Kong, and she needs to know why.

Laurel gives a bag a good beating when Nyssa comes to say a goodbye, she felt she owed her that. It pains them both to know that Sara's killer is still out there. Nyssa notices that she's been training. Back the cemetary she would have told her that she wasn't strong enough, but now she sees soemthing different in Laurel.

Quinton leaves his daughter another message. He misses her, and wants to hear her voice. He's worried about her, and he wants her to remember that he loves her.

Oliver goes to check on Thea, but it's not her first time being kidnapped. He tells her that he spoke with Lance, and the woman who kidnapped her won't be bothering her again, that she probably thought that the Queens still had money. She thanks him for checking on her, when Roy arrives. He didn't want to interrupts, but Oliver was leaving anyways. Roy has the same worried look on his face, but she's really fine. Roy apologizes for not being able to protect her. She appreciated his moves. He offers to be a bouncer, but Thea offer him an assistant manager position, and he accepts. Thea leaves to take another call, its Merlin. She assures him that Oliver is still in the dark, and she thanks her father for taking care of her. He promised that no one would ever hurt her, and he intends to keep it.

Nyssa returns home and reports that Merlin is indeed in Starling City. Ra's Al Ghul asks about Sara, and Nyssa informs him that she was killed. She swore a blood oath to avenge her, but he negates it. Sara was never really one of them. He asks Oliver's position, and isn't pleased to hear that he's vowed to protect Merlin, seeing it as a call to war.
