"Gotham" Writer John Stephens: "We Always Had The Intention Of Bringing Fish Mooney Back" (SDCC 2016 Interview)

When "Gotham" first reached the end of its first season, word broke that Jada Pinkett-Smith would not be returning as Fish Mooney. Many fans were left outraged by the news that the show's sole WOC lead character would be gone and that the show had seemingly exemplified Hollywood's tone-deaf approach to representation. But now it would seem that in this instance, there was less foul play than usual regarding diversity in media.

Writer John Stephens spoke about the third season of "Gotham" and how a main theme is transformation. While characters like Bruce, Selena, and Jim will each be embarking down notably darker story lines, Fish Mooney and other characters that weren't specified will be cycled in and out of the show's universe. Tune in to the full interview with "Gotham" writer John Stephens here:

Before there was Batman, there was Gotham City. Everyone knows the name of Commissioner Gordon, but what of his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the layers of corruption in Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains? Gotham tells the story of the world’s most iconic DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes from the very beginning, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer Bruno Heller (The Mentalist, Rome), this crime drama follows GCPD Detective James Gordon’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city, while also chronicling the genesis of one of the most popular DC Comics Super Heroes of our time. Although the crime drama follows Gordon’s turbulent and singular career, it also focuses on his unlikely friendship with the young Bruce Wayne – with his mentorship a crucial element in developing the mythology of Gotham City.

“We are thrilled to release Gotham: The Complete First Season on Blu-ray and DVD for fans to explore the unique origin story of Gotham and its characters” said Rosemary Markson, WBHEG Senior Vice President, Television Marketing. “With this release, fans will be able to get acquainted with the early chapters of their favorite Super Hero prior to the premiere of season two.”

Gotham S01E22 Recap: All Happy Families Are Alike

Barbara gets an eyeful of Jim and his new girl Leslie, Nygma embraces his darkside, Barbara falls for a killer, Falcone shows his hand a little to Jim, and Gotham goes to war.

Selena warms her hands on the banks and watches Fish returning home. She's ready to bring on a brand new day, which has Selena curious.

Two weeks later. Bruce paces his study, he smashes a photo of his father. Illusions shattered are painful. Alfred worries about Bruce. There's war in the streets and he's inside worried about his father. There's war in the streets and Bruce is inside worried about what his father may have done. Bruce remembers when his father would be working away in his office, and he tried to sneak in to see him, but the door was locked. He asks Alfred if the door was always locked. It may have been. Bruce is sure that his father's secret is in the office somewhere.

Falcone goes to visit some chickens. He chooses one of his liking when a pair come riding in on a motorcycle. They fire a rocket towards Falcone.

The precinct atmosphere is turning ugly as well. Gordon gives a rookie some advice, not to salute him. Once the war is over he'll likely lose his job, and he doesn't want to take the kid down with him. Jim heads into Leslie's exam room. Barbara is in there. Physically, she's healed, but Leslie thinks she needs some trauma counseling. Barbara doesn't want or need it. She's happy to be alive. She thanks Jim for his help, for saving her. He was happy to help. Leslie pushes the counseling, and Barbara will accept on one condition, Leslie is her doctor. Leslie tries to get her to agree to go somewhere else, but Barbara refuses.

Harvey tells Jim that Falcone just got hit. He's alive but may not be so for long, the city has turned on him. Maroni side is gaining steam, even though he's a hothead. The war is bad for business.

Falcone wakes strapped down to a bed. He's bloodied, and not looking all that well. Penguin heads to the hospital with flowers in hand. Butch accompanies him with a very large gun. Penguin has come to say goodbye to Falcone. He's been playing him from the start, and now its the end game. He started the war, and he plan to take up Falcone's crown and be the King of Gotham. Falcone scoffs, that will never happen. Penguin is going to burn in hell. Penguin is comforted in the knowledge that Falcone will go first, and the scalpel in his hand is surely going to help him along. Jim arrives, and puts Butch under gun point. Penguin tells him to walk away, but Jim Gordon isn't going anywhere. He places both of them under arrest for attempted murder. Gordon has Penguin and Butch handcuffed. Penguin pleads, tells Jim to let him finish the job and get onto the winning side. Jim sees that Maroni in charge will be bad for everyone. Falcone knows that he can turn the tide if he had a couple of days and set things to right, otherwise, it'll be an all out war with everyone clamoring for the top spot. Gordon releases Falcone. He notices that the hospital is empty, completely empty. He calls Harvey, who warns him to get out of there. Maroni is coming to finish him off, but Jim plans to get him out. Harvey thinks that he's nuts. Jim points out that Falcone is a bad man, but he's the best that he has. Gordon is all twisted up over what happened to Barbara, but he's done with Gotham. He has nothing else to lose. Maroni's man is surprised to see Gordon there.

Jim goes back in. Falcone can walk, but not well. Jim makes sure that he's aware that its not love or loyalty that is making to make this decision, but rather the best option for the city. Penguin pleas with him again, to let them go, to not make this decision. Jim is called out into the hallway by the Commissioner. He tells Falcone not to kill Butch or Penguin while he's gone. The Commissioner orders Gordon to go. He hopes to see him behind bars or dead before long. The Commisioner tells him that hope is for losers. The Commissioner offers up Jim, calling it open season on him. Maroni's men open fire, and chase after the Gordon. He has a few guns and tricks up his sleeves. He takes out the pair after him, and nearly shoots Harvey. Harvey has a getaway plan but they have to move fast. Gordon tells him that they have to take Penguin and Butch too. There's no time to argue.

They use an ambulance as a getaway vehicle, and Maroni is not happy to see his prey escape him.

Bruce tears through the study, not really sure what he's looking for, but sure that he'll know when he finds it.

Falcone makes it to his sage house. He thinks that anyone who knew about it is now dead. Selena comes out, asking what's up. The men look a little confused. And they look worse when Fish and her people come out.

Barbara feels like a lot of everything that is happening is a dream. Leslie tells her that its part of the trauma, with her parents being murdered. That part Barbara doesn't feel like a dream. The part where he's dead does. She feels like he's going to come after her.

Fish looks over Butch, she feared he was dead. He looks at her two colored eyes, and isn't sure that she's really there. He sounds like a broken child. Fish asks what they did to him, and he tells her nothing good. Fish calls to Maroni, and tells him that she has something that he wants.

Falcone tells Gordon that they didn't find his knife, and suggests that Gordon take it, and take out a few of the people before they're killed. Selena pokes at the tied up Penguin. She makes small talk with Gordon. He asks what she's doing there, and she plays cool. She's hanging out. He doesn't right out ask for her help, but she doesn't seem to want to be very helpful either. Its a cushy gig, and they only kind of know each other. Fish comes and greets her captives. Maroni gave her a sweet deal. She could have all of her territories, in return for Falcone's head. Butch heads off to lie down. Fish blames Penguin for Butch's current condition, and she plans to take it out on him. Falcone, she'll kill. Jim too, but Harvey, she's okay with him. Selena asks how she's going to kill Jim. Fish likes Selena a whole lot.

Barbara tells Leslie how Jason saw right through her. It was scary and thrilling. She was more scared of Jim than she was of Jason. The first date with Jim he was butch, stern. He never laid a finger on her though. She asks if Jim ever laid a finger on her. Leslie asks her why should ask that. Barbara had heard that Leslie and Jim were dating. Leslie admits that they are, and Barbara tells her that Jim is one of the good guys before offering to get her something to eat. Don't eat anything that crazy offers you!

Maroni arrives, heaping compliments on Fish. He has some love for Fish, but she doesn't look t feel the same. Maroni is happy to see Falcone, he notes that the old man is hard to kill. Falcone is sure that isn't the case, his men are just second rate. Penguin goes back to scheming. He still loves Fish he claims, and he points out that once Falcone is dead there is nothing to keep her alive. Maroni calls her an underboss, but Fish doesn't take orders. Maroni calls her “Babes,” and it rubs Fish the wrong way. Maroni is will to be partners, as long as she makes sure that she understands that she's #2. Maroni goes on to make his big speech. When Falcone is dead they can build their dynasty. He calls Fish “Babes” again, and jokes about it. Fish has had enough, and she shoots Maroni in the head. She's relaxed. All hell is about to break loose. The fighting starts immediately. Harvey frees Gordon and Falcone as the fighting starts, and Penguin frees himself.

Leslie tries to get to the heart of Barbara's trauma. Apparently this is a one day work out all the kinks kinda thing. Barbara tells her that she's a nice person, but she's not sure she wants to go there with her. Leslie is ready. Barbara asks her if Jim has told her that he loves her yet. Leslie doesn't want to talk about this stuff, but Barbara pushes. Of course Jim loves her. She's smart and beautiful. Leslie changes the subject back to Barbara's trauma.

Jim, Harvey and Falcone have gotten away for the moment. If they can evade her a little longer, they may be home free. Jim reminds Falcone that he's the best option for the city. Falcone makes a confession. He's done with this line if he makes it out. He has a place down south. Jim is less than pleased. Harvey decides to go with plan B. They head to a shipping container. Harvey wonders if he has room for a pair of former cops. The sand and sea sound nice. Falcone definitely has use for them. Selena finds them with a bunch of backup and brings them back to Fish. Fish made a rash move, but it may have paid off. Falcone tells her of his retirement plans, and she's almost sad for a moment, but she still plans to kill him. Before she can Penguin returns with some serious fire power, and breaks up the happy killing party. He kills most of her people before going after Fish. Jim and Harvey decide to get out of dodge.

Barbara tells Leslie what happened with Jason. They went out on a road trip. They were half-way to her parent's house before she realized that was where they're heading. He told her to tell them about her childhood issue. Barbara tells Leslie about some of the things she talked about. Her mother called her a little piggy, threw away her posters, did everything they could to whittle away her self-esteem and her soul. Leslie points out that sort of thing isn't regular kid stuff. Barbara tells her that they never understood her, not even while she killed them. Leslie corrects her. She didn't kill them, Jason did. Barbara enlightens her though. She killed her own parents, she stabbed them and slit their throats. Leslie finally realizes the danger she's in, and Barbara grabs a knife. She should be scared.

Leslie runs and locks herself in the bathroom, and Barbara goes all Johnny on her.

Jim, Falcone, and Harvey head into an elevator, and it just happens to look like Barbara's elevator. Exactly why would Jim head to Barbara's with Falcone in tow?

Barbara makes it through the bathroom door. Leslie breaks a mirror to protect herself, wrapping a shard in a towel. She and Barbara fight across the floor, their weapons being knocked away in the tussle. Jim arrives to Leslie banging Barbara's unconscious head on the ground. Leslie rushes into Jim's arms telling him that Barbara just went crazy on her. Poor Barbara.

Penguin makes it to the roof, looking for Fish. She lies in wait for him. She takes a steel pipe to him, beating at him. He manages to get it away from her for a moment. The pair fight, it can go either way. Butch arrives with a gun. He's torn between which side to take. Penguin tells him to shoot her, to follow his training. Fish reminds Butch that she's his girl. Butch shoots them both. He falls to his knees, crying. He's so sorry that he shot her. She doesn't hold it against him. They messed with his head. Penguin bashes Butch in the head, and pushes Fish off the building into the water below. Jada Pinkett-Smith may not be returning as Fish next season, but they've certainly left the door open for her to return. Penguin proclaims himself as the King of Gotham.

Kristin Kringle comes to see Nygma. She noticed something weird about the note that her officer Beau left her saying goodbye. Each line of the letter spells out his name. He claims to know nothing about it, and Kristin doesn't press him. Nygma laughs. His head is a mess. He shouldn't have left a clue. He argues with himself. HE doesn't measure up. Kristin may like him better if she's a little scared of him. Nygma's good nature is slipping away.

Falcone prepares for goodbye. Jim asks if he's sure that he wants to leave, Gotham needs him. Falcone thinks that Gotham needs a good lawman now, and he thinks that Jim is that man. Falcone shows him a nice knife, and gives it to him. It was a gift from Jim's father. He told him to take it, that a knife is a good friend to have. They were close at one time. He was one of the most honest men that he had ever met, but he carried a knife. Falcone leaves him with the gift.

Alfred tells Bruce to call it a night. His father was a good man. A thought comes to Bruce, something that Lucius said to him. He finds the book that may have the key. Its a button of some sort, and Alfred tells him not to press it. Bruce does anyways. The stereo plays, and then the fireplace moves. A secret tunnel is exposed, which leads down to the bat cave. So his dad was setting him up to be batman? Seriously?

That concludes the first season of Gotham. I can't say that its lived to up to the hype, or that I've loved every minute of it. It's been an interesting with some stand out moments, and characters (Nygma anyone?). Gotham has already been renewed for Season 2.

Gotham S01E17 Recap: Red Hood

A van pulls up and its full of trouble. The five get out to rob a bank, all with masks pull up over their faces, except one, who's wearing a red hood. The leader doesn't like it, but they don't really have time to do something different. Mr. Red Hood leaps up on the teller desk and tells the people not to panic, they're not there for their money, but the bank's. The men clear out the cashier drawers, one security officer gets ballsy, and takes aim. Not a single bullet hits the red hood. They knock out the security officer and make their way. The men get away from the bank, removing their hoods, but not Mr. Red. The cop cars close in with their sirens, and rather than running, he jumps on top of a car, calling to the people of Gotham to take back what is theirs, and throws money into the street. The people run to collect it, effectively barring the incoming police, allowing the men to get away.

Jim and Harvey head off to work the bank heist. Jim notices the camera, and takes a look at the footage. Jim studies the video. One of the tellers notes that the man in the hood seemed nice, that he took the money from the bank only and gave some back to the people. Jim points out that he only did it to ensure his escape. He asks about the man in the back checking his watch. The Manager tells him that he was doing it the whole time. He knew the response time, Jim asks if they had their alarm tripped lately. A smoke bomb set off the alarm recently, they thought it was just a kid's prank. Jim asks for that footage.

On a dark and stormy night Alfred answers the door, and sees an old friend. He brings in Reggie, who was recently picked up by the GCPD. He almost didn't believe when he heard where Alfred would be. Alfred thinks this place is good for him, and Reggie can tell. He asks what happened to Reggie. His wife died, he lost his home and moved back to Gotham and never really got back on his feet. It was the drink. Bruce comes in, and Alfred introduces him to Reginald Payne. Bruce invites him to stay for a few days.

Fish is brought upstairs, way upstairs through hospital corridors for her meeting. In various rooms people are in different stages of recovery from removal of various body parts. Finally she is brought before the Manager and told to sit.

Jim watches video footage from the bank. He finally finds the man he thinks is the red hood. Jim takes Harvey's glasses, magnifying the screen. The guy was wearing his work shirt.

Mr. Red Hood is all too happy about his Robin Hood write up in the paper. They're the red hood gang. The rest of the gang doesn't seem so happy. They find his antics dangerous, and rather than rehashing it all, they're planning their next heist. One of the guys thinks that its just a piece of fabric with holes cut out of it, but he thinks that whoever wears the hood should leave. The leader shoots him, and takes the hood. He thinks he's right, and no one is arguing.

The Manager isn't impressed by Fish, her little knife or her antics. She asks if this is his facility, it is. But she wants to know if he owns it. He doesn't the doctor does. She gets up to leave, she wants to talk to the doctor only. The Manager tells her to sit, the Doctor is away on duty but asked him to attend her demands. She wants his name, demands it. Dulmacher. She tells him to tell Dulmacher the basement is hers, and all the people in it. It will remain that way until he sits with her and negotiates terms. He thinks that he may have underestimated her, and offers her a shower and change of clothes before they begin again. And by offer, he pretty much orders her to freshen up.

A comedian fails horribly, stumbling over his jokes on Penguin's stage. People actually get up and leave because of the bad jokes, and three of his bartenders bicker. Penguin goes to see the issue. They're out of booze, the bar is no more than a show, with the real stuff down below. They've ordered more, but Butch lets him in on the secret. It's Maroni's booze, and he's a little grumpy with Penguin these days. Maroni disliked Fish too, but that was business. He can't kill Penguin, but he can destroy his business. There's plenty of places to get booze, but Butch points out that Maroni supplies this side of town, and no one would dare to supply him. Penguin thinks that Butch would love to see him fail. He might, but he actually loves the place. He was with Fish when they took the place, and he helped build it with his blood, sweat and tears. Penguin sets out to find his own booze for their dwindling clientele, and Butch warns him to be careful crossing Maroni again.

Jim and Harvey look over the garage. The crew was there recently, but they aren't there now. Harvey asks Jim for some details about Leslie. Harvey looks in the fridge, and they find their hooded culprit, minus the hood. Harvey racks open a beer, thinking that with the leader dead they've seen the last of the red hood.

Wrong, the four remaining crewmen go in and rob a bank. The huskier leader has more trouble leaping up on a desk than the previous Hood. One of the customers asks if he's going to throw money at them, they could use it. He's reluctant to do so, but ultimately does as the clock winds down. The people are over joyed as he tosses the cash into the air.

Jim and Harvey look over the footage. There are now only four members. Harvey is concerned that the crooks are more liked than the cops. Jim reasons that as long as someone is willing to take up the hood, the gang can go on indefinitely. The guys get a break, when an eye witness comes forward. The Red Hood parked in front of his restaurant. He could ID him. Harvey thinks its time to get a good old fashioned police line up.

At Wayne Mannor, Payne watches Bruce come in. He's training for a fight, and Payne thinks that Alfred is a good choice of teacher. He looks at Bruce's stance, tells him to try to hit him. Alfred watches from the staircase. He knocks Bruce down easily, angering him. Payne teaches him a lesson in control. Tells Bruce to hit him as hard as he can. He takes a few punches from Bruce, and Bruce draws blood. Payne tells Bruce to fight dirty, to take him down, but when he grabs the canes, Alfred puts a stop to it, suggesting that Bruce hit the showers. With Bruce gone, Alfred turns to Reg, asking if he ever raised a child. He hasn't/ Alfred admits that raising a child is the hardest thing he's ever has to do, that knowing Bruce makes him a better person, and suggests that they keep the past in the past.

Penguin watches the newest alcohol shipment come in for Maroni. With only two workers, its an easy target. Before Penguin can launch his attack, the cops roll up. Penguin can't catch a break, first Maroni, now the police. But they're Butch's men. Penguin got the liquor he wanted without going in guns blazing.

Cat picks up a little after Ivy, and spots Barbara looking out over the city. She thanks her for letting them stay, and apologizes for the mess. She was just about to leave. Barbara actually likes having them there. Selina notices the drink in her hand. Barbara murmurs about Selina's beauty. She has an idea. She gives the girls a pile of clothes. She use to go out a lot. As Ivy marvels and tries on one of the shirts, Barbara grabs a dress. She thinks that Selina is a true beauty, that her appearance can be a weapon as powerful as any knife or gun. Selina isn't buying it, pointing out that its never done Barbara any good.

The police line up, is about as far from similar types as possible. Mr. Chang has no problem picking out the Red Hood. Harvey is ready to book him, but Gordon has a better idea. They know that the gang is turning on eachother. If they let their suspect go, then they can potentially catch all of the red hood gang.

Fish is all cleaned up and dressed in white. She's still full of questions. She wants to know what exactly is going on at the facility. The Manager explains that there is the organ harvesting aspect, there is also another personal aspect. One of the guards rattles a jacket, and the Manager explains how things are going to be. She has a great presence. Her eyes are beautiful. They can take what they want and get things back to normal eventually, or they can take her eyes now and see how long a blind girl lasts in the basement. They won't take anything from Fish, she has a third option. She elbows one of the guards, and dives for the spoon, scooping out her own eye and smashing it on the ground under her heel. Fish passes out.

Bruce brings up an old bottle of wine for Alfred and his guest. Bruce brought an old one, thinking it a shame to gather dust down there. Alfred looks over the bottle, recognizing it, as one of Bruce's father's favorites. Alfred finally agrees, opening the bottle. He says the idea is to let it breathe for an hour, but Payne just drinks it down, to Bruce's delight. Payne regales Bruce with stories of Alfred's snake killing, and the awful taste. The good time turns dark as talk turns to the capture of some of their comrades. Alfred fought off many of them before they took them down. Alfred calls it a night. Payne laughs at Alfred's vernacular, and Bruce heads off to bed. Payne wonders why Alfed is hiding who and what he really is from Bruce. He's a cold, bloody, lethal war dog. Alfred tells Reg that he's found him some clothes, and packed him a lunch for his travels. Reg asks him if he's haunted by the faces of people who he's killed, he doesn't look for them, but they find him.

Harvey and Jim stake out their suspect's apartment. He doesn't suspect anything, and heads up to his apartment. When he gets there, one of his men wants the hood to impress his girlfriend. If she sees him in it, she'll come back to him, but Destro tells him no. They have one last job, before they all split up and leave town. The guy pulls a gun on him, and Destro warns that he had better use it. He does. Gordon and Harvey run upstairs, and finds Destro down. He's still alive though. Harvey tries to get the names of his crew out of him, but he won't give them anything. Gordon calls for an ambulance, while they wait, they find loan paperwork, all denied. They have the third target.

Penguin's liquor is brought into the bar, and all is well again. Butch pours them a few drinks, and Penguin is leery. Butch isn't poisoning him. If the club tanks, then neither Penguin nor him will be trusted by Falcone again. They toast, and down their drinks. Butch pours them another. Penguin asks if he misses Fish, Penguin does. Butch thinks she got what she deserved.

Alfred goes downstairs and finds Reg stealing from them. He tells him that he could have just asked for money, but Reg tells him that was much harder. Reg admits that he is in a lot of trouble. If he won't let him help, he tells Reg that he should just put the bag down and leave. Reg can't do that. He asks Alfred if he brought a gun. Alfred didn't. Reg stabs him, apologizing as he steps over his body. Bruce finds Alfred down and bleeding. He calls for an ambulance as he tries to stop the bleeding.

The Red Hood gang looks to strike again. One is worried that there are so few of them, that if someone makes a move they won't be able to handle it, but the Hood is sure that having the hood will be enough. Before the gang even gets into the bank, the cops surround them. He's not giving up just yet though. The cops shoot the Hood's companions first, he's out of ammo in his shotgun, but he's not done yet. He pulls out a pistol, and Gordon and Harvey take him out. The Red Hood gang is no more. Jim unmasks him, then he gets a call and rushes away.

Jim comes to Bruce's side, next to Alfred's hospital bed. He can't loose Alfred too.

Payne gives his report to the Wayne Enterprise board. The boy doesn't have anything concrete yet. They ask about Alfred. If he lives, he'll be out of commission for awhile. Now would be the time to take the kid out. The board pays him off, they don't suspect that they'll be seeing him again. Payne points out that Bruce is just a kid, a good kid.

A bystander walks up to the crime scene, and takes up the red hood.

Gotham S01E16 Recap: The Blind Fortune Teller

Bruce sleeps in the study, which seems to be the only room that he really uses in the house.

Fish's club gets a makeover, and Penguin lets his momma sing onstage.

Fish wakes up in her new underground territory, and wakes everyone else up. She watches as the weak are helped to the water.

Barbara returns home looking a little drunk and finds Cat and Ivy in her house. Cat tells her that Jim dropped off his keys last week. She takes a screw him attitude, not thinking that it was her that left him, and takes a seat before asking about her new house guests.

Jim and Leslie attend the circus and are entertained by the flying Greysons. It's all fun and games until the clowns get a little violent. Jim has to enter the ring to break up the fight.

Momma Penguin finishes her son, with no applause. Penguin comes to his mother's aid, and everyone follow's suit, except one dumb heckler, who tells her to get off stage. Penguin splatters his insides across the bar.

The clowns and the Greysons both remain mum as to the reason that they fought to Jim. Leslie has a little more luck with the younger members that she patches up. Jim wants to call it, since he's getting no where, but Leslie fills him in. The two groups have long been rivals, and not on friendly ground, but this apparent fight was over one of the side dancers, Lila. Jim goes to find Lila, and Leslie wants to come along, he agrees to come along. They get her location from the ring master. He brings them to her trailer. She's not in her trailer, her son, Jerome, tells them that he last saw her early morning. She left without her coat and purse. Her snake is agitated, and her son thinks it has to do with Lila missing. The ringmaster claims that she's a party girl, so running off for a bit isn't unusual. Jim tells Jerome to let out his mother's snake. He does, and they follow the snake to Lila's dead body. After uncovering the body, Jim confronts the Ringmaster. He caves, and admits that she was already dead when they found her.

Fish calls her people to action. They're being used for spare parts, and they need to rise up and fight so that they can get out. Some will die, but if they don't bind together as family, then they will all die. They can die on their knees, or stand up and fight as family. It sounds like they want to fight.

The Ringmaster takes Jim and Leslie out to where they found Lila's body. She was struck down by an act of God. Jim has the Ringmaster and other circus members brought in. At the station Harvey isn't sure whether or not Jim is playing an elaborate joke on him. Jim questions Jerome about his mother. She was distant, even to her lovers, she didn't really have a boyfriend. Jerome was fine with it, sex is a healthy human act. Jerome has no other family.

Jim moves on to question Owen. He tells him about the old family feud, stemming from a wrongful theft accusation. He fully blame's Lila's death on Greyson. And Greyson fully blames Lila's death on Owen. An officer questions the two younger members, and the girl doesn't think her uncle could be guilty, while the boy defends his brother. These two bicker, and its obvious that there's old feelings between the two. The girl can't believe that she ever loved the boy.

Fish gets notice that they're coming. They call out for one person to raise his hand, he does, but before anything happens, Fish raises her hand too. She tells the men that they need to talk. He doesn't want to talk, and tells Fish that she's in violation. He goes to take the man that he came to obtain. Fish asks for blankets, food and supplies in exchange for their specimen. The man doesn't want to play, and he thinks he's the one in charge. He orders her out of his sight. But Fish points out that he's not going to get what he wants either, they'll kill the man that he's come to collect. He needs him alive, but Fish isn't backing down, on her signal she has the killed. That gives the suits something to think about. He tells her that the suits aren't going to be happy, but she figures that he won't be happy with him either. She wants to talk to the manager, but the manager doesn't come downstairs. Fish gives a new proposition that he stay in her place while she goes up and talk with the Manager. The suit decides to go back to the manager himself for now. Fish bestows a kiss on the fallen man's forehead.

Essen is surprised to hear about Gordon's current case, that he released a snake to find the body, and that the current suspects are a clown and an acrobat. Leslie and Nygma give the details on the cause of death, a giant hatchet, and the time, 3 PM. 415PM both were suspects were inside the ring at the matinee. Its possible that they could have killed her, but not very probable. It would have been cutting it pretty close. Essen tells them all to keep looking.

Gordon tells the rest of the carneys that they're being sent home, and the investigation is continuing. He tells them no more fighting, and to see what the feud is doing to them. Leslie likes his authoritarian style, and thinks that their date should continue. She asks who he thinks did it, but he's not taking any guesses. A blind man comes, and tells them that he was a good friend of Lila's and has a message to deliver. Jim isn't all too interested, but Leslie is though. He tells them that “ servant of the devil lies with the Iron Sisters.” He doesn't know the meaning, but with his message delivered he leaves. Leslie scolds Jim for his close mindedness, Jim thinks the old man is working some sort of scam. Leslie isn't so sure, they don't know how messages beyond the grave work. Maybe Lila couldn't right out give them the name of her killer. Jim stops arguing, and starts working.

Bruce continues his studies. He's all set to meet with the board of Wayne Enterprises. Alfred thinks its reckless, premature, and dangerous. Bruce has made up his mind though. Alfred has said his peace, and tells him that if they're both found dead in a ditch, not to blame him.

At Penguin's he takes the stage himself, playing a little piano.

Barbara comes downstairs in blue and black, but the girls give her the thumbs down. Jim loves her in blue she tells them, but Cat thinks she looks like she's trying too hard. She needs to look like she's off on a date with someone else, and wholesome, like she's sailing.

Jim sits at dinner with Leslie. It's very domestic, with her home cooked meal. He gushes over her cooking, and then something jogs her memory. She thinks she knows what Lila's message means, and where it is. Jim thinks its far too impossible, but Leslie knows that there are things that cannot be explained by science. Jim tells her he will look into it, but she wants to come along. She pushes until he agrees to go right this moment.

Jim and Leslie, armed with their flashlights go looking for where Leslie could have been murdered. He tells Leslie not to make a habit of coming with him on investigations. She points out that he claims to want a strong woman, but really he wants her to stay at home and bake cookies. He doesn't want cookies, he jokes, but pie. They find the hatchet that likely killed Lila. It has markings from the Hellfire club, a satanic group that performed ritual sacrifices, but hasn't been active in years. Leslie wonders if they're back. Jim isn't so sure. He calls in for a delicate pick-up.

Jim arrives at the station, the pair he asked to be picked up are there, but neither knows the other was brought in. Jim prepares to do some talking, and Leslie is a little upset that he's now going on without her. He points out that it was her idea to go looking into the case while on their date, not what he wanted to do. She admits that he's right. She tends to get overly enthusiastic about things. She says goodnight, in a bitchy way, and Jim calls her back. He tells her that she was right about what she said about hypocrisy and sharing lives, and invites her along.

He takes Leslie in to question the blind fortuneteller. He greets Leslie without Jim even announcing her. He tells him that he found the weapon where he said that they would find it. Jim knows that it was a clever ruse, he had hoped they would suspect the satanic cult, but he sees through it. Mr. Sicero tells him that its a delusion, he was merely delivering a message, but Jim knows he's covering for someone, making him an accessory. Jim has the second person brought it, Jerome. Jerome asks if there has been anything found in his mother's murder. Jim knows that he killed his mother, and that Mr. Sicero let him clean up in his trailer when he was done. Jerome finds his thoughts absurd and offensive. Jim thinks that the only reason that Mr. Sicero would protect him is because he is his father. Sicero tells him that Jerome breaks down in tears for a moment. He didn't love his mother, she was a cold hearted whore. He smiles all Joker-esque, telling him that his mother would never touch a creep like him. Sicero tells him that if he wasn't his father he would have never helped him. Jerome goes a little off the deep end. So his mother got him with a zinger in the end. He killed his mother he admits. She wasn't just a drunken whore, but a nagging drunken whore.

Leslie sits in the locker room, and Jim comes to check on her after. Things got a little crazy and dark. Leslie liked it, and she thanks him for letting her come along. She asks if they can go home, and Jim is more than ready to. They share a passionate kiss, and Barbara sees it. She flees without them noticing.

A girl plays the violin onstage, as Victor comes to pay him a visit. Falcone is having second thoughts about him running the club, his numbers have slipped. Penguin tries to be all polished, but when he sees Butch, he stumbles in fear. Butch isn't there to pummel him. Victor has trained Butch for the last few weeks, he's a whole new man, and he's there to help Penguin with the club. Penguin doesn't believe his eyes, Butch is loyal to Fish. Not anymore. Butch is his trained puppy. Penguin tells Butch t dance, and Butch does.

Bruce and Alfred prepare for their meeting at Wayne enterprises. He has some questions about their business affairs. He wants to know about underworld involvement in Arkham and chemical weapons manufacturing at WellZyn. The board looks a little nervous.

The young clown and acrobat have come to say thank you to Jim for solving the case. They're now engaged. If it wasn't for him solving the case, and talking sense into them, then they wouldn't be happily engaged. Jim was just doing his job. The boy tells him that if they have a son they'll name him Gordon. He didn't pass that one by the girl, but they're happy none the less. Harvey notices that Jim is happy too, and suspects it has something to do with his appearance. He obviously had a sleep over judging by his lady soap smell, and lack of shave.

Bruce feels that there is no explanation other than Wayne enterprises has been involved in some underhanded acts. They promise to look into these issues, but they say that he has no proof. He hopes that they will look into the matter, because he will bring them up during the share holder meeting, and look for possible legal actions.

The suit comes back. The manager will meet with Fish. He will stay behind, and Fish will go above. She tells Thomas Schmidt to stay and relax, her family will show him a good time. Fish heads up for her meeting.

Gotham S01E15 Recap: The Scarecrow

A man returns home in the middle of a storm, but his light switch isn't working. He finds a lamp that does work. The shutters bang, and he goes to check on them. A figure appears in the hall, Jonathan, and he does not look right. Before he can run, he's cornered by a demonic looking Crane.

Fish awakens in an underground hell hole. There are a pair of men fighting in the distance. A man in a suit chats with Fish. She asks him if she's really in hell. He's not sure. A pair of burly men come up to her, and he warns her that there's usually a fight over new women. She stands up to the men, warning them that the first one that touches her is dead, as is the second. The two men walk away, and the suited guy marvels over the bravado.

Leigh and Gordon have a dinner date that doesn't involve case files. It's their third date, and he realizes that he still hasn't been to the apartment. She asks which room in her apartment he's interested in. Her kitchen is small, living room dank, and he'd like her bedroom, but not tonight. She needs to get a good night's sleep she starts a new job in the morning. She's the new ME, and although Gordon suggested it, he doesn't sound too enthusiastic about it.

Gordon shows up to the newest crime scene. Harvey fills him in on the murdered school teacher. It looks to be the same MO as the previous deaths, and likely that he's missing his adrenal glands too. Gordon wonders what he's doing with them.

He's making a paste of some sort with them. Crane grinds down and mixes up the adrenal gland paste with other things that he puts into a syringe. He walks out into the hall with his concoction and injects himself. His eyes grow big, and he's high off fear. He hallucinates a woman on the staircase, and fire overtaking it. She asks him why he refused to help her as he screams on the ground.

Alfred checks that Bruce has all that he needs. He offers to accompany Bruce, but Bruce refuses to let him, it wouldn't be right. Bruce assures him that he will be fine, and back before dark. Alfred straightens his clothes, telling him that his father would be proud. His father would have spent the night, but Alfred tells him that maybe next year.

Penguin tells Falcone what happened with Maroni. He's worried about retaliation, but Falcone is worried about the club getting a makeover. Penguin worries over his own hide but Falcone is more concerned about getting the club back up and running. Falcone is willing to take his association with Penguin public. He tells him that the club makes a lot of money, and money equals power. Penguin should worry about the club, and Falcone will worry about Maroni.

Harvey looks through the yearbook for anything. The girls are better looking now then when he was attending high school he remarks. Gordon tries to keep him on task. Leigh arrives for her first day and makes a beeline for Gordon. Harvey isn't enthusiastic. Essen moves to make introductions, but Leigh tells her that she already knows Gordon. She thinks its because of their time at Arkham, and Leigh doesn't correct her. Essen steals Leigh away to show her around, and Harvey warns Gordon of the follies of an office romance. He strikes gold when he spots Crane in the year book. Dr. Gerald Crane is a biology teacher.

The man in the suit introduces himself as Kelly, and offers her a drink. She refuses the drink, and fills her in on what he knows which isn't much. Some think where they are is a prison, some hell. Breakfast is delivered in a community bowl, but Kelly cautions her from being first. First honors go to the leader, Mace. Fish sizes him up as everyone scrambles for his left overs.

Bruce make his way through the woods. He grabs a stone as he passes, but has second thoughts and grabs another.

The principal tells Harvey and Gordon that Crane called in a few weeks ago and said he wasn't coming back. It was the same time that neighbors reported that he up and moved without a word. She doesn't have anything bad to say about Crane. He was a good teacher, focused on his son. He was somber at times though, but she thinks it was because of his wife's death. She died of a car accident. Harvey asks if he ever talked about fear or phobias. That makes her nervous. She shows them an academic paper that he wrote about fear and adrenal glands. He wasn't trying to prove he was right about fear, but trying to cure it.

Nygma looks over the paper. Crane was trying to inoculate himself against fear like it was a disease. To do so he needed a condense source. Gordon asks how much adrenal glands he'll need. It would depend how scared he needed to be. Nygma asks if they've seen the new ME, she smells nice. Harvey laughs over Gordon's competition. Gordon notices in the paper that he had two test subjects, himself and another.

Crane deals with the vision of his wife. Looks like she didn't die in a car accident, but a house fire. He watches, and begins to calm. His son comes in to find him staring at the staircase. Crane thinks that the treatment is working. He tells his son that it is almost his turn as well. He will be free of fear forever.

Falcone and Maroni meet together. Maroni offers some advice. They can be chummy take walks together, have lunch, but it won't stop him from killing Penguin. Falcone doesn't try to talk him out of it.

Penguin oversees the renovation of Fish's club, now his club. He doesn't like the way the drapes are being hung, yelling at the crew. Gabe brings in invitations to the newly branded Oswald's. Penguin tells him to deliver all of the invitations, all except for one, one that he plans to deliver himself.

Fish goes to meet Mace, but he orders her to keep a distance. She sweetly asks why he's the boss. There's one blade in the place, and he's holding it. Fish inches closer, she wants to make a deal with him. She has skills that she thinks could be useful. She drops down to his level. She wants protection and she'll show him her value.

Penguin walks into the GCPD and heads straight to Gordon's desk, but he's not there. Penguin spots Nygma, and vice versa. The two men circle each other. Penguin turns to ask if he can help him. Nygma answers with a riddle. Penguin doesn't like riddles, and has no answer for his question. Nygma wants nothing from him. He offers him quirky factoids, which Penguin doesn't appreciate. He tells him that he's standing too close, and shoos Nygma away.

Gordon is looking through phone records, anything for leads on Crane when he spots Penguin. He makes a beeline for him. Penguin greets him fondly, inviting him to a party he's hosting. Gordon turns him down. He offers his help on his case, but Gordon doesn't want his help or friendship. Penguin is sure that one day soon Gordon will need his help. He tells him to reconsider his invitation, but Gordon throws it in the trash when he leaves.

Crane asks his son if he trusts him before he injects him. Jonathan tells him to just get on with it. Crane injects him with a dose of adrenal glands, and Jonathan slips into fear. Crane tries to assure him to let go.

Bruce heads his rock laying spot he shared with his father. He lays one stone on his pile, and one of his father's pile. In quiet contemplation he takes his father's marker stone and tosses it. Falling into a fit, tossing all of his father's stones. With the stones dispersed, he turns to leaves, but takes a big tumble down the hill. Bruce is alone, and injured at the bottom of the hill. His leg looks broken.

Gordon checks on Leigh. She's had a busy first day. She kisses Gordon, and he reminds her that they're working together now, she can't do that. She reminds him that last time he kissed her in the middle of the bull pen, but that was before she was employed there. She fixes his tie, as Harvey comes to interrupt.

Maroni and Falcone continue their little budding bromance. Maroni asks why he's treating him so well just to keep Penguin alive. Penguin is a clever little man, and Falcone likes that. Moreso, he likes that Penguin understands that an odd little man like himself will never be don. Apparently he doesn't understand Penguin so well. Maroni tells him that Penguin isn't a money thing, its personal. He asks him if he knows a certain judge, he does. He's a bulldog, and he's put down many of Maroni's friends. Maroni is willing to accept his head with a cash bonus. Falcone is willing to give him more. He shows him the judge in a room with a dead boy and a dominatrix. The judge's misery will be there's to share. Maroni likes his way of thinking.

Gordon can't help but to think that they've missed something. Harvey wonders if Penguin can be of help. He's been helpful in the past. Gordon doesn't want to go down that route. Harvey thinks that they're going to have to wait for another body then. Gordon ponders another avenue. Crane is being motivated by fear, his wife's death looks to be a starting point. Harvey finds that Crane's wife didn't die as many reported, but in a house fire when he and his son were both downstairs. They take down the address of the Crane residence at the time.

Crane looks at the staircase without fear. Jonathan runs out the front door, and Crane chases after him. Jonathan hasn't finished his fear protocol, which could be disastrous. Jonathan insists that he isn't scared like his father, he doesn't need it, but Crane wants to cleanse his son, and eventually the whole human race of fear. He coaxes his son back to the house, promising that it will all be over soon.

Darkness falls and Bruce still hasn't returned him. Alfred watches the clock and the yard for his ward. Bruce hasn't moved since his fall, but he looks to change that. He makes a brace for his broken ankle and climbs back up the hill.

Mace summons Fish. She calls him Doc, and he corrects her. She likes to make up nick names for her friends. He likes that she's a firecracker. It's her turn to correct him. She's the fourth of July, not a one hit wonder. He pulls her close, calling her baby, but she's got some riders, and that's one of them. She stabs Mace in the throat with his own knife. He should have kept her at a distance. As Mace bleeds out on the ground, Fish Mooney proclaims herself the new boss.

Harvey and Gordon arrive at the Crane manor as Crane is about to inject his son. Jonathan wants to just make a run for it, but Crane wants to finish the protocol. He gathers up his serum and the pair make a run for it before Harvey and Gordon bust down the door. In the field before they can be caught, Crane draws up a super dose. Against his son's wishes, Crane injects his son with the enormous dose. Jonathan goes into fear overload, screaming as he sees the nearby scarecrow, and one of Batman's scariest foes is born. Gordon and Harvey catch up to Crane in the field, but he doesn't fear them or their guns. He opens fire on them, and the pair are forced to shoot Crane. Gordon runs to check on Jonathan who is having a heck of a seizure.

Bruce crawls his way up the hill. He finds Alfred at the top of the hill next to a roaring fire. He's watched him struggle up the hill for the last hour. Bruce is angry that he did nothing to help. He's cold, wet and has a horribly sprained ankle. Alfred lifts him to a seat next to him. They can go home, or they can stay and watch the sunrise, like he use to do with his father. Bruce warms, cheekily telling him they can stay if Alfred can handle it. Alfred has had a colored background, and sitting in the woods is downright homey compared to what he's seen.

Oswald's opens with a new look. Gone is the red, in are blues, along with an umbrella logo in neon lights. On stage is a more punk band, and there's only one person enjoying the show. Maroni makes an appearance, but Penguin can't get away. Maroni is all smiles, he's come a long way since he last saw him, mocking his turnout. Penguin takes it with good graces. He offers him a drink on the house. Maroni reveals that he's had a little chat with Falcone, and everything is good between them for now so long as he doesn't reveal anymore of his secrets. Maroni pours Penguin a drink. Penguin had better hope that Falcone has a long life, because once Falcone is gone, so is he.

Alfred awakens Bruce as the sun begins to rise.

Gordon pays Leigh a visit. She's settling in nicely. He tells her about the closing of his case, and she's interested to hear about Jonathan. She has circus tickets she tells him, and that he should come. Gordon thinks the circus sounds good, but that there will be no more kissing at work. Leigh points out that its good to show your feelings, but Gordon doesn't want to show them at work. Leigh pretends to pout, but she's okay with discretion.

Fish makes some announcements. With her reign things are going to change. There has been no order, and Fish plans for something more structured. A prisoner is brought back. She's freshly missing her eyes, she tells the others that “they” took her eyes.

Gordon goes to check on Jonathan. They found Cortisol, adrenaline and something they've been unable to identify in his system. They've run test to see if the seizures had any lasting effects. Although the drug has worn off, the doctor has found that Jonathan is still in fear, he's in a constant state of terror. Worst of all, they aren't sure it will ever go away. He tells him to imagine the thing he fears most, now imagine that is all that you can see every waking hour. Gordon watches Jonathan writhe on the bed trying to escape something. The scarecrow haunts him, forever.

Gotham S01E14 Recap: The Fearsome Dr. Crane

Dr. Crane prepares his patient by taking the tied up man, and dangling him over the building's edge. He removes his hood as he fastens a noose around his neck. The man is in a panic, but not the Dr. as he checks his vitals before cutting the rope that's preventing him from falling, all while the housekeeper cleans the carpets, unknowing that her boss is hanging outside of the window.

Maroni and Penguin celebrate Fish's fall from grace. Although Penguin did not see her demise, he assumes that she's worse for the wear. Maroni thinks that its the prime time to strike, and strike, Penguin has. He tells him that he has already claimed her nightclub for Maroni, of course. Fish calls to Maroni, and tells him that Penguin played both of them. Maroni is skeptical, but she makes the point that Penguin has likely done something to make him doubt him. He's had a few slip ups, its true, and the doubt is enough for Maroni to suggest he and Penguin take a trip upstate.

Another day, and another crime. Harvey is the lucky guy to get the strangulation case. Captain Essen is on scene as Harvey gives her the lowdown. Looks like the Dr. used his little pulley to retrieve his chair bound patient after he died. Nygma is on the case too, where still, no one appreciates his riddles. His riddle does pertain to the crime. There is a hole in the victim that he cannot explain, and wants to look at it back at the lab. He's so unappreciated there too. The Captain reminds him that its not his job, but the ME's to examine the bodies, and she's gotten complaints. She can't cover for him any longer. Nygma is on the verge of cracking as he puts on a happy understanding face. Gordon isn't on the scene, he's out with personal stuff. Captain Essen worries about Harvey being too close to the edge. Det. Flask had a lot of friends, and accidents happen. Harvey reminds her that she put the cuffs on him, they should all be careful. But Harvey goes back to doing his job.

Cat is making herself at home when Gordon returns. She hides, but he sees the signs that someone has been there. He catches her, and she claims that she was only there one night, and his girlfriend hasn't been there. Plus she heard that he was stuck guarding the looney bin. Gordon doesn't want Cat to be on the streets, but she's not staying at Barbara's place, neither is he. He was returning some keys. Cat reminds him that his last safe place wasn't so safe. Cat tells him that she didn't actually see who murdered the Waynes, and as he's distracted she slips out of the balcony before he can stop her.

Gordon pays Bruce a visit. Bruce hesitates to shake his hand. He's been away for awhile. Gordon tells him what Selena said and its the same story that she told him. Gordon thinks that she lied because she was scared, but Bruce isn't so sure. Cat doesn't scare easily. He tells Gordon that he doesn't have to worry about finding who murdered his parents, not because he's giving up but because Gordon hasn't had much luck so far. Gordon tells him that these cases take time, and Bruce understands that, but he released Gordon from his vow, thinking the man won't be able to deliver on his promise. Alfred agrees, and offers to show Gordon the door.

Maroni awakens a sleeping Penguin. They're in the country, and Maroni is hungry. Penguin isn't enthusiastic about his surroundings, but he follows. Sitting at the table, Penguin asks where's the guy they were to meet. Maroni likes it outside of the city, it gives him time to think, open and honesty. Penguin asks again about the guy. Maroni reminiscences about how he traded away a piece of Arkham to Falcone for Penguin, a piece that was supposedly worthless, but Falcone snapped it up. Or how Frankie died from knife wounds in a gun fight. Penguin is on edge, but both remain pretty cool Maroni leaves Penguin with his thoughts.

Scottie Mullens pays Harvey a visit. She was the victim's sponsor. She puts it together quickly that he's dead. Her number was in his pocket when his body was found. They're in a support group about phobias. Before Harvey can make a wise crack, Scottie puts him in his place. She reveals that he was scared of heights. Scottie cannot believe that he died that way. Harvey asks if she's Irish, thinking she could be, Scottie is taken aback by his question. But he smoothly asks about the length of the meetings, and concludes that she could have dinner after. Scottie, is a bit confused, but she goes with it. Gordon has had a chance to look over the crime scene, and its pulley system. Harvey is a little distracted. He's traced the chair though, and Harvey is ready to grab his coat and go.

Dr. Crane has his next victim. He scares the man, while he pets his tiny piglet. When the man turns to get away, another uses a taser on him, and loads him into a nearby car.

Nygma gets his hands on the body literally. He wants to know what the perpetrator was after. He sticks his hands into the hole that he found earlier, and finds something. He's caught with his hands in the corpse. The ME comes in with Captain Essen, and it looks bad. Nygma bumbles, and the ME pouts. Captain Essen has no choice but to suspend Nygma, before he has a chance to tell them that he's found something.

Harvey and Gordon head over to where the chair is likely to come from. Harvey asks about Gordon's love life. Gordon tells him that he has a thing with the Dr, and he's returned Barbara's key, even though she wasn't there. Harvey gives him some good advice about not screwing things up, after taking a little Harvey detail. There's some screaming and squealing, and the men rush towards the sound. A man in a pig head comes charging towards them with a machete, and they have no choice but to shoot him. Looks like Gordon's thin lead paid off.

Fish awakens on a boat. Things have been to her satisfaction so far. He tells her if she wants to say goodbye to Gotham she can, but she plans to be back soon.

Harvey and Gordon give their report to Captain Essen. The latest victim was lucky to survive. He's a Gotham general that had to be sedated when he was recovered. The man with the machete hasn't been identified yet. Harvey believes that wackos work alone, and that the case is closed, he heads off to report the good news to the support group. Gordon isn't so sure, the side incision on the first victime strikes him as odd. He wants to speak with Nygma about it. Captain Essen tells him to use the ME's report, but Gordon doesn't trust him. The man is incompetent. Captain Essen reminds him that Nygma is not the medical examiner. She likes him too, but there's nothing she can do about it. They're being scrutinized after their last take down.

Nygma pays Christine a visit. She's been crying, he notices. He tells her that he's been suspended and to return her pencil, though it's quite shorter than before. She's surprised by him. He's an odd man, but she wishes something could be done for him. He's pleased with her response.

Penquin is cooped up in the house, and going a bit stir crazy with Maroni outside. He runs to find the duffle bag under the sink, and slides a gun down his pants. He doesn't check to make sure that its loaded in his haste. He saunters back to his seat as Maroni comes back in with firewood. Maroni tells him to take a seat, that they need to talk. Maroni wants to have trust, real trust between them he claims. Penguin wants the same. Maroni confesses that there is no guy. Penguin was beginning to suspect the same. Maroni wants a secret from him. Penguin claims to keep nothing from Maroni, but Maroni presses. He tells him that he doesn't actually like oatmeal. Maroni continues by dropping the bomb that Fish Mooney is alive, and that he talked to her. Penguin wants to know what Fish said, but he needs a secret first. Penguin doesn't like coffee. Maroni tells him what Fish said. That he and Falcone have been working together, and playing Maroni for a chump. Penguin asks if he believes her, since she does have more to gain from their falling out. She did put some incidents to question. Maroni wants another secret. He tells him that he took his gun, and he shows it to him. He took it because he knew that Mooney would call him somehow, and that he might believe her. He points the gun at Maroni, asking him to tell him another secret. Maroni calls him a dirt bag. He treated him like a friend. But Penguin tells him that he treated him like a monkey. Maroni gives him another secret, the gun is loaded with blanks. Penguin doesn't believe him, and shoots the gun. Maroni was telling the truth, and Penguin is shocked. Maroni, doesn't hesitate to give Penguin a beat down, knocking him out.

Gordon meets with the good doctor for some drinks. He's asked her out for a case. He wants her professional opinion since their medical examiner is a bit of a clown. She's a little disappointed. The last time they were together, he was a bit passionate, and she's unsure about his mixed signals. She points out that she even put on lipstick. He was using the case as an excuse to see Leigh Thompson, but he really did want to see her. He's just a bit rusty on the dating stuff. That's something she can respect. She's ready to help him out with his case, insists on it. He gets a call. The second victim woke up, and he was grabbed by two people. There is someone still out there, and Harvey isn't answering his phone.

Harvey is busy with Scottie. He's come to tell the group that they're safe, but its a bit premature. He plays the confident stud, but he finally admits that he has fears too. He's scared all the time. He offers to talk to the group about it if she thinks it would be helpful. She does. She heads into the meeting, as Harvey grabs some coffee, and is greeted by Dr. Crane, a regular at the scare club.

Maroni has a proposition for Penguin. He gets into the car, gets squeezed and the remains get sent to Falcone. Penguin offers some suggestions instead. Dead he's useless, and possibly the reason for Falcone to retaliate. He admits that there is more to India Hill, but he doesn't know it. Maroni is done listening. He and Frankie went way back, and Penguin killed him. He drags Penguin into the crusher, and tells him to say hello to Frankie for him.

Nygma sneaks into the locker room, and prepares to pick a locker's lock.

Harvey tells the group of his fears. His fear of being killed on the job and dying alone in the gutter. He doesn't want to die that way, he wants to die in a warm bed in the arms of a love one. Dr. Crane, Todd, speaks up for the first time in the group. He fears being a failure, the same fear that his father had. The story becomes too much for him and he walks out of the meeting. Scottie walks out after him.

The car Penguin is in is about to be crushed, but that doesn't mean that Penguin is giving up. He calls to Maroni. He may not know why India Hill is important, but he knows he who controls Arkham controls Gotham. Maroni doesn't want to hear anything that Penguin has to say and hangs up on him. Penguin is in a dire situation. He notices the phone number on the sign and places a call to the man operating the crusher. He warns him that he's called Falcone, and that Falcone isn't going to be pleased that he crushed his right hand man. In fact, Falcone would send people to kill him and his family. The crusher operator has a change of heart, stops the machine before its fully crushed the car and makes a run for it. Maroni's fun is ruined, and the man gets away before Maroni can shoot him or make him finish the job. Worse for him, his distraction allows Penguin to slip away.

Harvey becomes suspicious that Scottie is still gone. He has a bad feeling and heads out after her, but its too late. Scottie is unconscious and tossed in the back of a van.

The crappy ME heads to the locker that Nygma had been picking the lock on. He unlocks it and severed extremities pour out of it surprising him. As he scrambles to collect them a pair of officers comes in and sees him with the body parts.

Gordon reports to Essen. The Dr. has been coming in over the last couple of months, his appearance there wasn't' odd. His name is Todd, but group protocol allowed them to remain anonymous, so there is no ID on him. Essen thinks he must be crazy to grab the girl with a cop at the meeting. Harvey gets off the phone with Scottie's mother. When she was a child she almost drowned in a pool across town. Harvey is sure that's where he took her. A detective comes by with an arm, and Essen hopes its not what it looks like.

Dr. Crane tells Scottie how brave she is. She's an 8, 12 is top. He's surprised that she's only an 8. He warns her that he plans to really drown her as he takes her blood. Her fear level goes up to a 10. His son Jonathan comes in to tell him that the parking meter has run out, and he's taken aback a bit seeing Scottie. Dr. Crane assures him that its what is best for humanity, and gives his son money to feed the meter. Jonathan does as he's told. Dr. Crane asks that she not think bad of him as he tosses her in bound up into the pool. Scottie struggles, but ultimately sinks to the bottom. Gordon and Harvey arrive, and Dr. Crane opens fire on the pair. Gordon chases after him through a boiler room as Harvey leaps in to save Scottie. He cuts her binds and brings her to the surface. Dr. Crane manages to get away, and Harvey gives Scottie CPR saving her life.

Penguin is awaken by a group of ladies in his bed of leaves. They hoped he was alive. He tells them that he's a fallen prodigal son. He asks if they are headed to Gotham, and they are. He boards the bus of the church ladies.

Leigh pays Gordon a visit. She's found that the Dr. removed the adrenal glands of the victims. There really isn't a market adrenal glands on the black market. She thinks that by making the victims hit their peak scared level they would produce an abundance of cortisol. He notices that she enjoys this line of work, and lets her know that there may be more available, as the ME was caught stealing body parts. He offers to talk shop over dinner. She thinks his segway is cute. Mocking his crud dating skills. He has the urge to kiss her, but refrains since he's at work and has a reputation to maintain. Leigh coaxes him to do so, threatening to cancel their dinner plans if he won't atleast kiss her on the cheek. She even does a little count down, and Gordon kisses her with passion that everyone in the office including Nygma sees. It brings a smile to Nygma's face. Nygma heads to Christine's office to let her know the good news. He's staying and the ME is leaving. She plays nonchalant, but remarks that he owes her a new pencil. It's a start.

Fish's ship is taken over. There's shooting, and the Captain comes to warn her of imminent danger. He claims he can hide her, just as he's shot. She comes face to face with a uniformed man, and does not look pleased about it. She rushes to attack.
