Helix S2E1 - "San Jose" Recap

Day 1
The CDC board a ship that has many dead bodies of victims of a new unidentified virus. The team is comprised of Dr. Peter Farragut, Dr. Sarah Jordan, and newcomer Dr. Summer. Peter notes that this feels like it's just the beginning. It doesn't appear to be the Narvik virus but they don't know just yet what they're dealing with. Peter discovers the bodies of two victims who appear to have killed one another, as they are both holding weapons and have stab wounds on their bodies, while Sarah discovers a lone female survivor who tries to attack her until Summer intervenes and injects her with a sedative.

The survivor, Leila, says that people started getting sick two or three days ago, three days after they left an island they had taken on a detour to. She stayed quiet and hid while she heard everyone begin to kill each other and scream. She was too afraid to sleep so when Sarah found her, she didn't know if she was real or just another waking nightmare. They're able to determine that the virus isn't airborne so they don't have to keep their hazmat suits on anymore. They report their findings back, and figure that the virus came from the island that the people had visited, St. Germaine. Peter demands that they be taken to the island and then apologises to the coast guard for being rude. She agrees to drop them off but she cannot go ashore. She has to return their samples so she can't wait around for them. There's limited service for their satellite phones and no landing strip, nor is the island in close proximity for a chopper to retrieve them. They'll have to wait roughly two weeks before another ship can be dispatched to get them. So the three doctors and Leila are dropped off so they can try to determine the source of this virus.

During what could be interpreted as flirting, Summer asks Sarah if she thinks Alan really blew up "that building in Paris." (This is a tie-in to where we last saw Alan during the season one finale, outside a Parisian Ilaria Corp. building). She doesn't offer up much of an answer except the fact that she didn't know Alan as well as she thought. The team then goes to explore the woods, following Leila who is alarmed when she sees a dead rabbit strung up. It appears to be missing its eyes so Peter tells Summer to bag it and bring it with them. Leila is further spooked when she sees (or does she?) a menacing looking person gnashing their teeth at her. The doctor chase after Leila through the woods but Sarah is injured when she falls and has a wooden stake run through her foot.

Summer removes the stake and tends to her wound, also telling her that he recognised her back in Seattle since she has become a bit of a celebrity at the CDC. She has developed a reputation for jumping into every crisis following her time dealing with the Narvik virus and even gained the nickname "Hot Zone." (I still think he's flirting). He begins to stitch up her foot and she relents, admitting that she hasn't seen Alan in a year nor does she care what he is doing.

Peter and Leila return to them and say that the trap she injured her foot on isn't used to catch animals, but humans. Leila becomes alarmed by something smiling at her from the base of the tree. When Peter and Summer go closer to inspect it, they find a human skull. Upon looking around, they find countless more.

Julia arrives on the same island in search of a cure for the virus but is quickly ambushed and taken hostage by a masked man who asks her, "Do you know the way to San Jose?" He brings her to a warehouse/shed of sorts and ties her to a chair. He won't respond to anything she says except to ask again, "Do you know the way to San Jose?" He leaves her alone upon hearing a noise, presumably Leila's screams. Julia is able to break some glass and begin sawing through her restraints but the masked man returns and keeps asking her the same question. When the man reveals an array of tools and weapons, it would appear as if Julia is about to be tortured. In actuality, he is getting some tweezers to remove her contacts and reveal her silver eyes.

Leila runs off again and the doctor follow after her. They come to the same shed Julia is being held in but when they enter, they find it empty. Summer drops his belongings, and the jar with the dead rabbit in it rolls out and we see the "Day 1" fast-forward as the rabbit decays till only its skeleton is left and then we learn that all of Julia's plot thus far in this season is taking place 30 years after the other running plot. The man removes his mask and tells Julia he knew one day she'd come.

Back in the present day, Sarah wants to take off to find Leila again but Summer think she needs to stay put because of her foot. In private, Peter chides her for her newly acquired reckless behaviour that has manifested after she gained an immunity from infection and an extraordinary recovery system. She retorts that its a gift. Summer finds a blood pool in the shed and they look to find that Leila has been strung up and her eyes have been removed (like the earlier rabbit). Peter tells them all to switch off their lights (its night time by now) and they peer out the window to see hooded figures gathering around the shed with torches in their hands.

The doctors step out to identify themselves and share the news of Leila's murder. A woman named Ann steps forward and displays an eerie ability to know when they are lying. She tells them they must come back with the group because the island is dangerous and there is no time to bring Leila's body along. She says everything will be explained at the compound.

Julia asks her captor for his name and he says it is Caleb. He gives her some water and she says she's not there to hurt anyone. There's a new outbreak on the mainland known as TXM7 and they believe the pandemic began due to events that transpired on the island 30 years ago, though he says that no one on the island is sick now. Julia may be able to find a cure but she needs answers first. He doesn't understand why her kind would be interested in saving mortals and she says that they have started dying too. He doesn't believe her until she points him in the direction of her left shoulder, which upon closer inspection shows signs of infection.

The group reaches the compound and the doctors learn that the compound is meant to be a sanctuary for people who wanted to get away from things they left behind. The doctors simply want to inspect things to determine the source of the infection and Leila's murder. The hooded figures speak of a man called Brother Michael, who is their leader. He then steps forward to reveal himself, as he had been hiding behind them and eavesdropping. The doctors want to run tests on the food and water, but Brother Michael tells them they've been growing their own food for years without any problems. He also gives Peter a hug and it's hilariously weird and awkward. Summer asks if there are any other people on the island, wanting to figure out who killed Leila, but Brother Michael doesn't answer. He only says that they will be given rooms to sleep in and they will talk more in the morning. On his way out, he brushes Sarah's shoulder with his hand. Yuck. Summer notes that they have stumbled on a cult but Peter warns him to keep quiet since they don't know who else may be listening in on them and they will figure out what they're dealing with in the morning.

Caleb makes some food and shares it with Julia, who finally shares that she's looking for Alan Farragut. Caleb's face registers recognition and he admits that he is here on the island. He agrees to take her to him but warns that she may not like what she finds. They head out into the night and Caleb leads her to the rundown abandoned compound and finally to a gravestone that has Alan's name written across it. She is saddened but keeps her emotions held in.

Back in the present day, Sarah is brought a tray with some water on it by a hooded figure. She thanks them but they don't respond. As they are leaving, the hooded figure is revealed to be Alan. Finally, we see a woman strapped down to a table in a lab while gloved, hooded figures keep her still as her teeth are removed with pliers and dropped into a jar. A tube is shoved into her mouth and an unknown, thick liquid like substance is pumped down her throat. Behind them, there is a bookshelf that is full of multiple jars (it's hard to tell if they're full of teeth, that same liquid, or something else entirely).

Helix Season 2 interview with Kyra Zagorsky and Steven Weber

Helix is back for a second season on Syfy. Season 1 introduced us to a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention who travel to a research facility in the Arctic to investigate a potential outbreak of disease. While there, they find themselves stuck in a life-or-death situation that could decide the future of humankind.

I was lucky enough to chat with two of the stars from the upcoming season Kyra Zagorsky and Steven Weber.

Kyra Zagorsky plays Dr. Julia Walker. Still reeling from the revelations in Season One that changed her life forever, Dr. Julia Walker is pursuing her own agenda to define her new identity. In league with her captors, the shadowy Ilaria Corporation, she must use her passion, courage and fierce independence to find her moral compass and create purpose in her new existence.

Steven Weber plays Brother Michael. As the head of the enigmatic order living on the island, Brother Michael welcomes the CDC with caution. A student of nature and lover of science, he eschews modern technology and is suspicious of outsiders ... yet he has designs on making an impact that reaches far beyond the Abbey, and he will stop at nothing to preserve his way of life.

Kyra, how different is Julia now that she is aware of her immortality?

Kyra: She's very different. She's basically become a completely different person. She's connected to Ilaria now. She's connected to the immortal population. So she's in a completely different world and she's a survivor still that one thing that's still strong piece of Julia, that's in her character, and now she's just navigating through this as well

Steven, you're new to Helix this season. Tell us a bit about your character.

Steven: Brother Michael is a leader of a fellowship that dates back several generations. People call it a cult, but he doesn't necessarily. He is a botanist, a naturalist, and organic farmer. He is a molecular biologist He has years of knowledge in the field. And he has perpetuated, or helped to perpetuate this fellowship for a long time. He is on intimate terms with many of his followers. He a father to some, a brother to some, in a spiritual sense. But his reign is strengthened by a virus, a disease. So the CDC pokes their noses in as their wanton to do and they come on the island, and start to straighten things out.

What sort of preparation did you do to prepare for playing this character?
Steven: I killed a lot of chickens. (Laughs) No I didn't really have to do anything because it was all written down. The character is really benign when we first see him. He's spoken about as having a lot of charisma and control. I thought, well if they're talking about it I don't have to show it. I don't have to go out of my way to do that. So I didn't really have to do that much preparation.

Kyra, will we get any glimpses into what Julia was up to between the main events of season 1 to the flash forward that showed her as being on the Board of Directors at Ilaria?

Kyra: We will get a glimpse of it. Julia goes through a lot of different obstacles in the second season and she's going to meet a lot of new characters that kind of help her to figure out this new world that she's apart of now. But once she gets reconnected with Alan Farragut again a lot of what happened in between will come up, and there's a lot of fireworks that go on when these two characters come together again, and the politics and the social issues about what immortality is. So it's interesting and its heated.

Can you tease for fans regarding the relationship between Hatake and Julia?

Kyra: It's unresolved. (Laughs) It's definitely that.

Last season there was a lot of action. Steven does your character get to see any action this season?

Steven: Uh, huh. Possibly. The reason I say possibly because the entire tone of the show is amped up from the first season. So there's a lot of everything. There's a higher intensity so there's a lot of action and interaction. It's not like I have fist fights with Billy Campbell or anything.

Awww.

Steven: I know, I know we should be stripped to the waist. You'd like that wouldn't you?

(Kyra Laughs)

Maybe, maybe just a little.

Steven: Yeah. But there's a lot of psychological interplay that gets very dark and extremely frightening. It can really be kind of enjoyably awful if you know what I mean.

Did the two of you get to share some screen time together?

Steven: A little bit. Our characters do intersect along the lines, somewhere along the way in a fairly interesting way, I think. But like I say there's all these concurrences, there are these separate strings of stories that are running concurrently and then they begin to interweave as the season progresses and resolves shockingly.

If you could be on any other show, is there one that maybe you're watching currently that you would like to be a character on?

Kyra: I'm watching a lot of great shows right now. There's so many shows I'd want to be on. Honestly, I've been watching Hannibal, An Honorably Woman, Homeland. I've been watching Master Chef Junior which is my favorite. I would love to be on it, but I'm too big. (Laughs) TV is kind of a great playground for actors right now. All of the characters are fantastic, the story lines are really good, they're being shot well. I think TV is a pretty wonderful place right now, especially for women, well for men too, but its always been the case there.

If you could have anyone guest star on Helix who would you want to bring on?

Steven: Alive or dead?

Sure alive or dead.

Steven: I think Abraham Lincoln would be really cool to have on the show.

Kyra: I think my vote would be Morgan Freeman.

Steven: I would have to agree to disagree with that one.

Helix Season 2 premieres on SyFy, tonight, January 16 at 10/9c.

Helix S1E13 (Finale) - "Dans L'Ombre" Recap

In a flash-forward to Day 235, we see a silver-eyed man being tortured by Alan, demanding to know where "she" is. He threatens to board up the door and the man says he fears who he works for far more than Alan. Alan says he knows all about Illaria. The man taunts him about trying to contact all kinds of people about Illaria but no one believed him. The man tells him to go ahead and that all he has is time.

Go back to Day 13 and Julia is demanding to know where her mother is, threatening to kill the Scythe if he doesn't talk. He merely taunts her and she strikes him out of anger. Alan pulls her out and tells her that they can't act like them or they're no better. Julia says she doesn't want to be better - she only wants her mother back. She heads out and sees Hatake grieving over Daniel's body. She offers to let him be alone but he doesn't want her to be alone. She asks why Daniel sacrificed himself for her and Hatake says that he knew he would have made the same choice. She points out that Daniel grew up there but Hatake barely knew her. He says that she is his daughter, flesh and blood, and nothing will change that. He thinks she hates him but she says that she doesn't. She only wants to understand why he didn't tell her her mother was still alive. He didn't want to give her false hope and put her in danger. He didn't want to fail Julia but he already failed by allowing Illaria to take Julia's mother and use her against him. Julia realises that Hatake created the Narvik virus to keep her alive and had no choice. Illaria would have hunted Julia down and now they certainly will.

Toluk and Anana discover the missing snowmobile and can't find any tracks or clues as to where Balleseros is. Anana says he won't last a day out there. Toluk wants to face reality - he might be dead. Anana wants to keep looking. Balleseros is shown to be walking through the snow, pepping himself to take "just ten more steps."

Sarah tells the people in the bunker that she'll be gone for just an hour, wanting to search for Alan. One of the doctors wants to run a blood test on her, since she's not looking so good. His lab is just upstairs.

Peter wants to torture the Scythe but Alan tells him not to. Alan tells the Scythe to contact Illaria and arrange to have Julia's mother given back to them. The Scythe tells them they've already lost. Alan says they have the virus and the cure but the Scythe tells him to check the newsfeed on his device. Alan and Peter find that there has been an outbreak of a virus people are calling "Black Blood." They're wondering the virus got off the base and Alan simply says, "Balleseros."

Balleseros is show again in the snow. He has collapsed but the base is within sight. Anana and Toluk are still looking for him. Anana still firmly believes he is still alive. She doesn't want to leave him out there and Toluk tells her that he made his choice and she needs to honour that.

Balleseros wakes in the base and is smacked across the face by Blake. She spotted him on the base perimeter cam. She says she was tempted to leave him out there and only brought him in because she needed back-up. He learns that the Scythe is with Alan and Peter and that Blake has the virus and the cure. Julia learns that about the contained outbreak and they realise that it must be Narvik A since there have no reports of vectors.

Peter is tasked with babysitting the Scythe while the others plan an assault on Blake to get Julia's mother. When they get in, they find Balleseros, who has just knocked out Blake with the gun she gave him. They end up in a stand-off. Julia says she just wants the crate and tells Balleseros it is her mother. She is permitted to check on her status. Balleseros didn't know about the breakout and says he just wants the list of the Inuit children. Blake wakes and tells Balleseros he's dead and just doesn't know it. Balleseros shoots Blake when she won't stop talking.

The scientist examines Sarah's blood and when he finds elevated levels indicative of cancer, he turns around and finds that Sarah has run off. Balleseros is still demanding the list and the locations. Alan is horrified and Hatake says he is not that many anymore. Balleseros will surrender the virus and the cure in exchange for the list. Hatake says there is no written list but he has the information memorised and offers to write them down.

Julia helps her mother, who doesn't appear to recognise her. Julia gives her name, and Jade says she has a little girl with the same name. Jade asks to be let go, saying she needs to take care of her daughter. Julia says she will take of her first. Balleseros gets the list and gives up the virus and cure. Hatake hands the tubes to Alan.

Peter visits the Scythe, who begins to taunt him with knowledge of his life and history. Peter says he doesn't know him but the Scythe says he understands him. He says he has made a career following in Alan's footsteps. Peter gets angry and puts a knife to the Scythe's throat. The Scythe tells him to get it over with and instead of killing him, Peter cuts the restraints keeping the Scythe bound to the chair. Peter tells him he has no idea what he's put him through. It turns out Peter was the one who smuggled the virus off the base. The Scythe tells Peter that together, they will shape the future of the world. The Scythe then knocks Peter out, warning him that it might sting a bit.

Julia tells Alan that her mother has all kinds of heavy-duty tranquillisers in her system and still remembers Julia as a little girl. Jade then tells them that her mind is fine but her body is what's weak. They tell her where she is and she remembers it, saying she lived there for nearly six years. She opens her eyes and recognises that Julia is her daughter. She says she is even more beautiful than she imagined. She says she wished she had the courage to take her away much sooner. She wanted to keep the family together and had hoped Hatake would change. He was too ambitious and she was a fool. She apologises, saying not a day went by that she didn't think about her. Julia introduces Jade to Alan. Julia says that they were married and Jade says that she has missed a lot. Hatake comes in and is reunited with Jade. She is amazed that Hatake looks exactly the same. An alarm goes off to indicate a perimeter breach. They're unsure who it is.

Balleseros is out in the snow, fiddling with a snowmobile and sees people approaching on snowmobiles. Alan, Hatake, and Sarah meet Balleseors, Anana, and Toluk, who say that they have come to help, bringing more people on snowmobiles. They learn of Daniel's death and Anana is devastated. An injured Peter comes stumbling out with a bloody head wound. Hatake is concerned that they won't be able to escape the Scythe. Alan says that no one is infallible and Hatake says he has only one weakness. Peter looks worried.

The team is preparing to evacuate on the snowmobiles. Alan hands the viles to Julia and she kisses him godbye. Peter looks on sadly. The scientist approaches Sarah, who says that she doesn't want to hear about her cancer being back. He tells her that it's not cancer; she is pregnant. She'll need a more reliable test back home, but he still congratulates her. The team opens the door and finds the Scythe standing with the detonator. He sets it off and explosions go off all throughout the base. Alan calls out for Julia, and finds her being held at knifepoint by the Scythe (his name is Spencer, by the way). Jade comes out of the wreckage with half her face burned, trying to talk Spencer down and offering to go back in Julia's place. Spencer is angry about being called Spencer and slashes Jade's throat. A helicopter comes down and the Scythe grabs Julia and the viles and pushes her onto it. Alan chases after it and throws something onto it. The Scythe goes to look at it and finds it is his mother's head. Alan grabs onto the helicopter as it rising and grabs a vial before being pushed out. The helicopter flies off as the base burns.

Day 235 - Alan is in France at a cafe and reads about the Narvik virus. He gets an Ilaria card secretly passed to him and he scratches the wall behind him - undoubtedly a message for someone. He gets up and meets with Peter, who asks if he found Julia. Alan says he has and that he thinks she is still alive. Peter is relieved and asks how he found her. Alan tells him he doesn't want to know. Alan tells him that if he's not at the checkpoint, to go on without him. They part ways. Alan heads towards an Ilaria building. Inside, a meeting is about to take place. Julia comes in, silver eyes gleaming, and asks in France, "Shall we begin?"

Helix will return on Syfy in Season 2!

Helix S1E12 - "The Reaping" Recap

The Scythe reports back to his superiors that he has not found Constance Sutton and that the cure does exist. He is given a to-do list of: 1. Deliver Narvik virus and cure. 2. Deliver Hiroshi Hatake -- alive. 3. Terminate all other personnel.

Down in the bunker, Sarah is wearing a cap to hide her now-silver eyes. She and Peter are discussing their next plan of action. Peter says they cannot run and hide. Either Illaria will survive or they will. Julia reassures Hatake about Daniel, who has gone in search of the other scientists. Daniel returns and his stern look is all they need to know that the others are dead. Alan, Peter, and Daniel observe the carnage and Peter is highly emotional upon seeing it. Daniel knows that the Scythe is responsible and Alan wants to lure the intruders out.

Sarah puts some colour contacts in. She thanks Julia for saving her life. They talk about the perks of immortality - looking young and maintaining their health. Sarah thinks that with enough time, they could accomplish anything. Julia warns her that they will have to watch everyone they know die and they must also keep their immortality secret. But these issues will only matter if they survive the next 12 hours.

Balleseros is taking the reigns of helping the tribe members to evacuate. Daniel's brother Toluk is weary of him but Anana points out that he has military experience and leadership abilities. She reminds him that he saved her and all of their lives. She trusts him but if she is wrong, she promises to "gut the son-of-a-bitch" herself.

Alan, Hatake, and Daniel look over security footage of the Scythe. Alan is amazed by how young he is but Hatake warns him not to underestimate him. The Scythe and his sidekicks are watching the footage of them watching the footage and they are interrupted by banging coming from a mysterious black box. Scythe asks for one of them to shut her up and the woman goes over and injects whomever is inside it. The other sidekick shows the Scythe security footage of Hatake murdering Sutton and he vows to avenge his mother's death. Mother??? They then overhear the group talking about how they still have samples of the virus and have developed a cure.

Toluk confronts Balleseros and warns him to keep away from Anana and tells him to leave. Juliet tells Daniel he is free to think of her a sister, and he politely thanks her and says that he already has one. Hatake tells Alan he has worked for many lifetimes to try to bring immortality to the people in the hopes of ending disease, war, and suffering. Alan questions how him immortality has effected his humanity, since he killed Sutton. Hatake tells him he doesn't understand. They head outside to retrieve the virus and are caught by Scythe and his sidekicks. Scythe tells Hatake he will answer to the board for killing his mother. Scythe demands to get the virus and Hatake tells him to come and get it. When Scythe approaches, Hatake tosses it aside. One of the sidekicks, Thea, goes to retrieve it and falls into an icy ditch that opens up beneath her feet.

Hatake and Alan run back in and tell Julia and Daniel that one of the three has been taken out. The Scythe and the remaining sidekick, Blake, go back over the footage and hear Sutton reveal that Hatake has a daughter. The Scythe tasks Blake with finding out everything he can about Hatake's daughter. Sarah speaks with Peter. He shares that Alan was quite a stickler for rules even when they were growing up and that he slept with Julia because he loved her. Alan, Daniel, Hatake, and Julia are in an elevator heading down and the lights go out. When they come back on, they find that Julia has been taken.

The group receives a message in a canister that calls Hatake a traitor and contains one of Julia's fingers. Hatake is being summoned to isolation to go alone otherwise Julia will die. Daniel is against the idea, saying that they will kill Julia anyway.

Anana is furious with Toluk for running Balleseros off. He tells her people don't change but she insists that he is wrong about Balleseros.

Julia wakes to find her finger gone and a collar round her neck. The Scythe warns her that it is armed with explosives and any sudden movements will set it off. He wants revenge for his mother and he's on his way to getting it. Sarah tells Daniel that Hatake is risking his life for Julia and would surely do the same for him. "Even monsters have their reasons."

Alan and Peter go crawling through the vents. Alan spots photos of Julia taped up and Peter claims to not remember doing so while he was infected. Down in the bunker, Sarah tries to maintain order and keep the group calm and then she finds that Daniel has disappeared and taken the virus and cure samples with him. Alan and Peter open some vents and wait for Hatake to release some halothane gas but Hatake decides against it and heads in without doing so.

Hatake tells the Scythe to let Julia go, promising that he can do whatever he wants with him instead. When Hatake begs, the Scythe tells him to do so on his knees. The Scythe then reveals that both Julia and Daniel are in explosive collars and he must choose which ones lives or dies. Hatake refuses to choose and the Scythe gives him 30 seconds to choose or both collars will explode. Daniel speaks up and tells Hatake that he loves him and forgives him before sacrificing himself. Hatake flies into a rage and tackles the Scythe. Alan comes in and lands a kick to his head while Hatake disarms the device just in time. The security cameras come on and the entire group sees Blake open the box to reveal the woman inside - Julia's mother.

Helix S1E11 - "Black Rain" Recap

A woman looks for food on what looks like a hospital wing of the station and spots a live rat in a microwave. She is caught by some Vectors and Peter looks on at the scene and the rat explodes.

Hatake has Sutton's phone and an alert has gone off on it since she has failed to check in. A countdown begins for six hours. Hatake goes to a safe, pulls out a suitcase containing explosives and begins setting them.

Alan visits Julia, who is still recovering from her spinal tap to help Sarah, whose tumour is now shrinking. They can't explain the science behind it just yet and they also know that Illaria still poses a threat to them. Their conversation is interrupted by a man, who tells Alan that people on the base are going missing.

Hatake is going around the base planting explosives and it's unclear what the significance of each location is.

The man brings Alan to the scene of the rat in the microwave and says that Dr. Takedo (the woman from the beginning) had gone out to look for some food. She was warned not to go alone but she wouldn't listen. Alan says that the vectors are back and they are setting traps, knowing that food is scarce and people are desperate. The man says this doesn't make sense but Alan believes that the vectors represent a next step in evolutionary virology. It creates a new organism as part of a viral collective.

Hatake informs Alan about the upcoming strike team from Illaria of 100 mercenaries who will storms the base looking for the virus. Alan says they need to guard the remaining survivors by placing them in a room against a vector attack. Daniel warns them that they have a limited amount of weapons. Hatake reveals that he has planted explosives around the base and hopes to lure the mercenaries into a select area before detonating them. The rest of them could take refuge in the hidden bunker beneath the base. The vectors are revealed to be spying on Peter through the wall outside the room containing the survivors.

Daniel tells Hatake he feels betrayed over his not telling him about the existence of the bunker. Hatake says there is an escape tunnel from the bunker that will take them to the surface following the blast. He tells Daniel he cannot do this without him. Their relationship is still shaky at best. While they prepare their stockpile of weapons, the vectors are seen doing the same.

Julia shows Alan more findings regarding her DNA and the Narvik virus and long story short, they might be able to find a way to re-program the Narvik virus to destroy itself. Alan says this won't work since they don't have the virus, Julia reveals her not having destroyed all the samples. Alan is furious and says that she is like Hatake. She then says that she is like her father. Alan's still not happy but he says that he will help her.

The vectors are then shown to be draining Dr. Takedo of her blood and collecting it into a bowl.

Hatake brings Daniel down to the bunker and reveals that before him, he had a daughter whom he built the place for. He admits that Julia is his daughter and Daniel is infuriated that all the destruction and mayhem was for Julia. When Daniel tells him they are all just an experiment to him, Hatake says that life is an experiment. Daniel angrily says he will check each explosive to ensure that the base gets "blown to hell."

Sarah wants to help Alan and Julia but they want her to rest since it was only yesterday that she was on the brink of death. Sarah proposes that they use croygenic fluid to slow the virus down to help their plan and they are impressed.

The vectors are then shown to be contaminating the water supply with black goo and then setting off the sprinkler system, raining down on the remaining survivors in the locked room.

The group tries to recalibrate their plan and Alan is angry when Hatake tells them that Peter had visited him as a cryptic warning of what was to come and that he should have put Peter down when he had the chance. Julia calms them down and gets them back on track. They go down to the lab and test their cure on the rats. It would prove slower than they would like to have to dose one Vector at a time so they decide to use tanks designed by Daniel named Arcker.

Julia and Hatake encounter Peter, blasting him with the cold air, which slows him down enough to inject him in the stomach. He begins convulsing on the ground and coughs up black bile before some vectors come charging at them after seeing one of their own in danger. When they get close, Hatake steps forward and blasts them with the cold gas and he and Julia begin injecting each of them.

The team begins tending to the recovering patients. Sarah is shown to be getting headaches and alan is concerned about her though she insists that she's fine. Peter is remorseful, feeling he was unworthy of a cure. Alan informs Julia about Sarah's re-occuring symptoms. The alarm is tripped, revealing that Illaria is on its way.

Alan, Hatake, and Daniel head outside and find that the team isn't making a direct approach but then an explosion goes off. They find that it was a diversion and some mercenaries drop down from the sky. Hatake has an arm injury and is brought down to the bunker with the others. He warns them that there is one man on their way, known as "The Scythe." He gets into an elevator with some of the survivors who think that he (and his two masked companions) are from the army. They are relieved, telling him that they have a cure and are glad to be rescued. When the elevator reaches the bottom, everyone except for the three masked men are dead.

Daniel tells the group that if the others aren't down there by now, then they are not coming. Sarah gets another intense migraine and her eyes are shown to be changing to silver. Daniel clicks the button to set off the explosives, since they cannot wait any longer, but none of them go off. The three masked men are actually one young boy ("The Scythe") with silver eyes and two womyn.

Helix S1E10 - "Fushigi" Recap

Sarah wakes to find she is about to be scanned. Alan reassures her that it will be quick. She sees a vector attack and kill the people outside but Alan wakes her and asks her what's wrong, saying she was screaming. Hatake tells Julia that her mother took Julia and left him after she learned about the abducted Inuit children. He says most were given to families who couldn't have children of their own and that he deeply regrets what he has done. He also shows her a book, cataloguing her life events, indicating that he had kept an eye on her. She asks him about the silver eyes and he says it is a rare genetic mutation. She says he is lying and that she deserves to know the truth. He says he's trying to protect her and she tells him that that isn't his job.

Alan tells Sarah that the tumour is spreading to her brain and she says she just wanted to be able to go in the field, and apologises for lying to him. He comforts her and says that he is really glad she's there.

Anana patches up Balleseros and he briefly checks her out. Daniel comes in and tells them that the Illeria bodies are being disposed of. He thanks Balleseros for his help, who then says that Illeria won't stop until they hunt everyone down to keep their secret. Balleseros tells Anana that they should flee if they want to survive.

Julia tells Alan about Hatake. When he confronts Hatake, Hatake informs him about Dr. Adrian's having taken the NARVIK samples and fled the base. Hatake is certain that there is nothing out ther and that Adrian will simply freeze to death. Alan is unconvinced, and shares his concerns with Julia. They find an abandoned station on the map that he has likely fled to and Alan assumes that Adrian either works for Illeria or he intends to. Hatake tries to convince them not to go, but they go anyways.

Hatake visits Sarah in the lab. He admits he feels guilty for doing terrible things in the name of science. She reminds him about Edward Jenner, who had tested on an 8 year old boy and developed a vaccine for smallpox from the experiment. She goes on to say that his misdeeds will be worth it if they're able to stop the Narvik disease.

Alan and Julia reach the station and find Adrian radioing Illeria. They try to convince him to do otherwise and a scuffle ensues. He slashes Julia and grabs the samples. He runs off but Alan catches up to him. They fight and Alan knocks him through a window. He restrains him and Julia says that the radio is broken but she might be able to fix it. Alan goes off in search of another generator.

Anana and the other Inuits are preparing to flee. Daniel won't leave with them, saying he needs to stay behind and give them a fighting chance. They find that a snow mobile is missing and Daniel insists on going after it to find who has escaped, since news of what really happened will put all of them at risk.

Julia attempts to make the radio work while calling out a mayday and Alan attempts to help, while being taunted by Adrian. A sniper then takes out Adrian and the duo get down while keeping the virus samples close. The shooter calls out to them, saying to turn over the virus and they will be let free. Alan theorises that there is only one, since if there were more, they would have stormed in already. A foreign voice calls out to them over the radio responding to their mayday. When Alan tries to reach for it, the sniper shoots it dead.

Back at the base, Hatake returns to his office to find vector-Peter who has been rifling through his belongings. He tells Peter he wants to help but Peter's not having any of it.

Alan and Julia discuss the various things that led to the end of their relationship, including his becoming distant and her infidelity. They then find an opening leading underground.

Sarah logs some findings of Julia's test results. There's something in her DNA that was either the result of her being cured or the cause of it. She plans to use samples of Julia's spinal fluid to inject into her own central nervous system to see if it will cure her cancer.

Alan and Julia get underground and hear someone singing. They head towards the voice and find a hairless man with silver eyes chained up. He asks them to free him and give him some water. He's singing The First Noel and it's all very creepy. He says his name is Gunnar Mikelson and he tells them he remembers being a scientist, a preacher, and a Viking. More singing and another request to be freed. He then says Constance made him choose a side and that's why Hiroshi had him locked up down there. He says there can be no more than 500 and Julia angrily tells him to explain his eyes. He tells her she can survive four minutes without oxygen, four days without water, forty days without food, and says that rebirth feels like dying. He says they thought they had found the ultimate gift of eternal life but to live forever is to die ten thousand times.

Balleseros visits Anana. She says they shouldn't be running from their home and he says he's learned over the years that home is made from people and not places. She thanks him for what he has done to help save her and the others and he says it doesn't excuse what he's done. She tells him it could be a start to his becoming the man he wishes to be and then they kiss.

Alan doesn't believe Gunnar but Julia is more inclined to hear what he has to say after all that has happened to her. They hear a noise and realise that the shooter has found the hatch. Alan says that they need to hide the virus.

Sarah is still working hard in the lab but as she records more of her work, she falls down seizing.

Julia asks Gunnar how long he has been down there and he says 29. When she asks if he means days, he laughs and says he means 29 years. She asks why Hatake chained him down there and he says he has dreamt of his revenge countless times. He knows that she hates him too and asks why but Alan returns and says they need to go. Gunnar pleads to be brought with them but Alan says it's not a good idea. Julia wants answers but when she gets near him with the bolt cutters, he tries to take them from her. She puts them to his neck to try to get him to stop but then he makes a move to try to kill himself. She asks what he is doing and he says that the longer you live, the more you will suffer and that living forever means watching everyone you love die. He then has her clamp the bolt cutters into his jugular, demanding to be freed. Just then, the shooter catches up to them. He tries to beat the location of the virus samples out of Alan and threatens to shoot Julia but Daniel shows up and shoots him dead. They set the station on fire and Julia throws the virus into it.

They return to the base and Alan learns from Hatake that Sarah has suffered multiple seizures. He looks over her and Hatake informs him that he had to put her into a medically induced coma. Julia returns and Hatake asks them where they were. When she tells him and also lets him know they met Gunnar, he tells her that he had betrayed her mother to Sutton. It would have been a death sentence and so he repayed him with a life sentence. Julia deduces that "the 500" are the ones in charge and Hatake says that there are 500 immortals who run Illeria corporation. Sarah then begins to crash and we hear Julia's voice from the messages she had recorded to Alan, saying that she wasn't scared. We then see Alan watching the message and crying.

Hatake tells Alan that Sarah only has a few hours at most to live. If they are going to act, they must do it now. Hatake says that Julia can save Sarah and we see her standing over Sarah's body.

In the vent, we see vector-Peter taping up photos of Julia. Because this show just wasn't creepy enough.

Finally, we see that Julia still has samples of the Narvik virus.

Helix S1E9 - "Level X" Recap

Following the group's escape, they trap some a Vector which they intend to perform research on. Alan questions where the Vectors could have disappeared to and upon reaching an air vent, he comments that there is air coming up from below. Hatake tries to say that they are on the bottom level, but Daniel reveals that there is a level X on which Hatake has kept original core samples of the virus. Alan is furious to learn that the virus was created by Hatake, though he insists he was never going to deliver it. He says that without him, there would be billions of bodies. When they question after Sutton's whereabouts, Hatake says that she is no longer a problem. He warns that what's coming is far worse. Sutton was just the messenger and next up, an army will be sent that will not stop until they have the virus. Alan says they must go down and destroy the virus.

Julia questions Hatake about the photo of her as a young girl with him. Hatake reveals they have met before and that he knew her mother. He says that her mother was a mentor and a dear friend whom he visited several times in Montana. Julia wants to know why Hatake looks the same 30 years later but he merely states that he was a very young man. Clearly, we're not getting the whole story here. Julia says that it can't be a coincidence that she's her now with him at the base but Hatake doesn't offer an explanation.

Daniel pulls up security footage that shows the Vectors have all gathered on Level X. Hatake offers to go down but Alan refuses, saying he doesn't trust him. They notice all the Vectors swarming, exhibiting behaviour like bees. They're drawn to something, or someone. We then see the Vectors all spitting black goo into a cup which they pour into the mouth of the unconscious Peter, who wakes shortly after. He leaps up and the Vectors all stand before him mesmerised. For some reason, he is their fearless leader as a simply movement of his hands makes all of them kneel.

With the trapped Vector in a machine, Dr. Adrian releases some cold gas into it, temporarily paralysing the Vector. Dr. Adrian says that he doesn't have enough gas for Alan to release onto the lower level, but Alan says he won't need it. Dr. Adrian questions how he will lower the temperature enough to slow them down, saying that it needs to hit at least -40 degrees. Alan says it is -50 outside and he will bring some of the outside inside.

While locked up, Balleseros is all snark and cheek until he learns that Sutton has sent a kill squad after Anana. He looks mighty worried now.

Sarah's hands shake, likely as a result of her illness. Hatake gives Alan a gun but says that Julia will not need a weapon. They begin forming their plan to get downstairs and flood the base with outside air to freeze the Vectors. After they shut the power off, Sarah laments her impending death to Hatake and her lack of significant life accomplishments. Hatake appears concerned by her rambling. Alan and Julia keep track of the time before the heat will come back on. He says that if they're unsuccessful, they must burn the place to the ground. It would be a suicide mission. They reach Level X where the Vectors are frozen in place. They make their way through the sea of Vector statues into the vault where the samples are. They alarmed to find that there are far too many to go through with the limited time they have. Alan wants to just find the particular virus they're after but Julia wants to destroy them all, not wanting Illaria to have them in their possession.

Balleseros breaks out of his cell while the power is out.

Julia tells Hatake that death is a bright light of all the things she hasn't done and that she'll never have children. She begins to go into hypothermic shock, and Hatake become alarmed, having no choice but to turn the power back on.

Back in the vault, Alan continues to find every disease possible, including the Plague, and Julia finally finds the correct tube only to find that it is empty. Someone must have gotten to the virus sample before them. Alan's timer goes off and he says they have to go but Julia becomes frantic, wanting to keep looking. Outside, the Vectors are beginning to regain mobility and Alan insists that they have to go.

Balleseros is discovered to have broken out by Daniel, who catches him outside as he is about to escape. Balleseros tells him about the kill squad and when Daniel asks him why he cares, Balleseros says that at some point, it has to stop. He says that Daniel can shoot him, but he'll still go. Daniel teams up with him, and they set off for the village.

Julia tells Alan to keep going, as the Vectors more aggressively pursue him but ignore Julia. On the way out, she finds her initials carved near a vent in front of the door to Level X, which the Vectors are currently pounding on. She tells Alan she has to go down there and that she is starting to regain a repressed memory. He refuses to let her go alone and follows her down the vent. She finds what appears to be an exact replica of her Montana childhood cabin.

Balleseros and Daniel stop when they lose track of the trail. Anana sneaks up on them and they fill her in on the death squad headed for the village. She tells them that she saw five riders on three snowmobiles not long ago and they all set off for the village together.

Alan and Julia are confused as to why there would be an exact replica of the cabin and Julia struggles to decipher the answers to this mystery.

Balleseros, Daniel, and Anana reach the outskirts of the village where they see fifteen civilians being loaded onto a trailer. Anana wants to charge in but Balleseros and Daniel stop her, saying they need to think tactically if they want to be successful, since they are currently outmanned and outgunned. They send Anana in to be "caught" by the guards, and Daniel punches his twin - but it's all part of the plan.

Sarah is rambling and delirious, calling for Alan. She says that the surgery didn't work and that it was too close to the spinal chord. Hatake checks her back, just below her neck and finds a scar. HE carries her out.

Alan and Julia get out of the vent and find that the Vectors, led by Peter, have gotten out. Julia tells Alan to get behind her and stay close, as she stares them all down. She tells him to go upstairs, saying she will hold him back. They're able to get out, and Peter lets out an angry Vector shriek.

The soldiers prepare to light the trailer on fire. They give Daniel a weapon with which to kill his brother but the soldiers tell him not to shoot him in the head, in case the bodies are ever dug up and discovered. That is not what historians meant when advising people to learn from history. But then, Daniel turns and begins shooting soldiers, as do Balleseros and Anana, who had concealed weapons.

Alan asks Julia how she kept them off and she says that she has been different since her recovery but she cannot fully explain it. The vectors appear to have lost interest in her, but Alan replies that it's more so that they are afraid of her. They both have several questions and know that Hatake has the answers. When they reach him, he is still cradling Sarah. Hatake chides Alan for not knowing that she had a Grade 4 spinal tumour. She had a seizure 20 minutes prior. Alan prepares to take her to the ICU and when he tells Hatake that the virus is gone or perhaps was never there to begin with, Hatake says that that's impossible. Sarah rambles to Alan and reveals to Julia, who is present, that she and Alan slept together. Alan tries to apologise, but she say that it's fine since they are not together anymore.

Julia visits Hatake to question him further. He shows her the torn photograph half of her and Hatake which she had seen before and says it was one of the happiest days of his life. He then pulls out the other half of the photograph, which has Sarah's mother in it. When Sarah sees her mother, she realises that her hallucination of the woman who helped her while on the lower level (a few episodes ago), was  a vision of her mother. Hatake says that he has waited for this day for a long time but was afraid of rejection. He says he wanted Julia to know him and that it was never the right time. He says that the cabin was not a replica and that she never lived in Montana. When Julia questions who he is, Hatake removes his contact lenses before turning around to reveal his silver eyes. He then says, "You have your father's eyes." This is an unexpected turn of events, especially since you have an actress who doesn't look Japanese in the slightest playing a half-Japanese woman. (As a half-Japanese woman, I would know).

Daniel begins to bond with his brother and they relive some of the childhood memories they had before they were separated. Anana looks on in delight. Balleseros comes in and tries to warn them what's coming next but Anana notices that he is injured and insists on tending to his wound.

Helix airs on Fridays on Syfy at 10PM.

Helix S1E8 - "Bloodline" Recap

Vectors continue to crawl through the air vents. Julia discusses the disappearance of her symptoms with Alan and Sarah and also reveals that Hatake helped her to get back up to their level. Alarms go off and they're called to a lab where a body has been found. Alan orders that the place be locked down and sterilised. Julia is examined by Sarah and reveals that the only major symptom she's been having is sensitivity to light. When Sarah questions whether she's wearing coloured contacts, Julia reveals her silver eyes in confidence.

Daniel shows Anana around and they begin to bond. Alan questions Hatake as to what he did to Julia. Alan demands for a cure but Hatake says there is none. He also says that she is virus-free, but that only puts her in grave danger. If she's discovered, she'll be experimented on for the rest of her life. Hatake tells Daniel to run to Julia and not leave her side. Meanwhile, Sutton visits Julia and gets rough with her, pulling her from her room and noting her silver eyes.

Alan arrives back at Julia's room, where Sutton is refusing anyone to have access to her. Sutton says that she is now property of the corporation. Alan says that she can't just appropriate a human being, but she says she can. Anana begins patching up Balleseros, who is unhappy about being locked up. He reveals that when he was younger, he was responsible for taking the children she is searching for. Anana leaves with Daniel, angry, and Balleseros is revealed to have stolen a piece of metal with which he can pick the lock on his restraints.

Sutton confronts Hatake and says there will be reckoning for what he has done to Julia. She lays out a tray of torture devices and when he says there's nothing she can do that he can't bear, she says that they're not for him, but for Julia. Meanwhile, Sarah reveals to Alan that she has already run tests on Sarah multiple times, and they show that she's in overly perfect health. They conspire to create an explosion so they can get away and get Julia free.

When Julia hears the commotion coming from the air vents, she is inspired to use them to escape from the room in which she has been locked. Sutton gets the news that Julia has escaped and demands that she be found, and retrieved alive. In the vents, Julia encounters some Vectors but after they look at her (and her eyes) they continue on without bothering her further.

Alan and Sarah get the guards to go to the supply room to get a list of things they ask for. Balleseros breaks out from his restraints. Anana wants Daniel to leave with her but he says he must stay and finish things. She tells him to not forget her and tearfully says goodbye. He appears to have slightly bonded with her but it's not enough for him to agree to leave with her, though he does keep the photo she gives him. She tells him that he has a family now.

Julia manages to get in the air vent above the lab where Alan and Sarah are working. They talk with her but cannot look up, as they are being watched. They tell her of their plan to kill Sutton and they tell each other to be careful. Alan and Sarah fake a discovery and get Sutton to come in and look through a microscope but their suspicious looks alert the guard who tackles Sutton to the ground just in time to avoid an explosion that goes off.

Alan and Sarah escape in the commotion but Sutton addresses them over the intercom and orders them to surrender themselves under the threat that she'll have his brother killed. Alan is prepared to turn himself in but Julia suggests that they create a diversion. She finds a sound canon, the likes of which have been used for crowd control. She also happens to know how to operate it.

Julia breaks into Hatake's office and offers to set him free on the condition that he help Alan. He says he will on the condition that she stay put and hide from Sutton. She's not fond of the idea and Hatake says there's no time to answer her questions. She cuts him loose but continues to demand answers. Hatake injects her with a sedative. How patronising of you, Hatake.

Anana comes across Balleseros preparing to take off and holds him at gunpoint. She asks how he got out and realises that he used her. She offers to give him the key to her sled but when he reaches for it, she tackles him. She strikes him but he gets the upper-hand and now holds her at gunpoint. In a strange move, when guards begin approaching them, he throws the keys back to her and tells her to leave, since they'll kill her but not him.

Julia wakes and exits the secret room in which she's stored. There's a torn photo of Hatake on her but she's then apprehended by guards.

Alan surrenders himself but Sutton tells the guards to kill his brother anyway. The sound canon is used to disarm the guards and Hatake gets Alan out in time. They return to his office and find that Julia is gone, and realise that Sutton has her. Daniel joins them, showing his choice to be a mole for them, and says that Sutton has taken Julia to transport her as cargo off the base.

Later, Sutton and Hatake have a serious conversation in which we learn that they were once involved in a romantic relationship but things soured. Hatake seems to have cared more for others than her and the argument escalates until Hatake tackles Sutton and uses a chord to strangle her to death. He gets on the intercom and tells them that Sutton is no longer in charge and that all her men have been apprehended and put into custody - they've actually been hunted down. He tells them all will return to his normal protocol. Julia is released.

Julia learns about her not having any antibodies and speaks with Alan about the treatment she has endured. She is worried about the endless pursuers she will now have for whatever it is that's different about her. Daniel tells Hatake he doesn't think he'll ever be able to forgive him. Hatake is confident that their relationship will be mended. Sutton's body is lowered into the ground.

Helix airs on Fridays on Syfy at 10PM.

Helix S1E7 - "Survivor Zero" Recap

The Ilaris helicopters have arrived and Sarah and Alan scramble to dress. She says what they did was just biology and he looks a bit uncomfortable with how dismissive she is of it. They meet Hatake and Daniel in time for the "corporate patrons" to come marching in looking like big, scary, military folks. The leader of their group removes their facemask and it's a woman named Constance Sutton. She introduces herself as the CEO of the Ilaria Corporation and says that she's there to help. They have a meeting in which Alan says he needs to communicated with the CDC. She asks if their satellite went down and says she's under the same constraints as they are. The helicopter radios won't even work but they'll be back in two days. Alan says he wants Julia back to help combat the outbreak but Hatake says that this is impossible. Alan admits that she is infected but necessary as she is an expert in RNA structure. Sutton agrees that he should get her out and the group begins to disperse before she asks for a private word with Hatake. Once alone, her friendly demeanour disappears and she grabs Hatake by the throat, pushing him onto a table. She says that two things were needed and when he points out that the virus has been created, she berates him for not having a cure for it. Apparently, Sutton doesn't want to kill everyone, but does want to "thin the herd a bit." Hatake chimes in that she also wants to rule them. She asks about Narvic B, an alternate form the the virus, and admits that she does intend to get Julia out - whatever needs to be done to find the cure is something she will be willing to do. Hatake asks what will happen after that, to which she responds that no one will get out alive. If Hatake isn't with her, he will be part of that group.

Meanwhile, Balleseros is still Anana's prisoner and finds himself handcuffed to the back of her snowmobile and whining, wanting to know how much further till she'll reach her destination.

Alan is suspicious about Sutton. He doesn't trust her and relays this opinion to Sarah. They agree to continue working on the cure but to not give it to Sutton if they find it. Meanwhile, down on level R, Julia is exhibiting some strange symptoms. She draws a blood sample after exhibiting heightened senses but finds it is a normal colour. Her skin blotches are gone, but then her eyes change colour yet again and her head begins to pound.

Sutton approaches Daniel and tells him that technically, Ilaria is the one that pays him. Daniel doesn't want to provide her with insider information but she tells him that Hatake won't always be the one in charge. She also tells him that Hatake destroys everyone close to him and that he may be next. Outside, Anana and Balleseros are at an abandoned military station and after he tries to coax her into untying his hands, she hits him upside the head with a shoe. Back on Level R, Julia blindfolds herself and converses with her hallucination of Peter. She asks about her silver eyes and the entire conversation is highly cryptic.

Hatake looks over surveillance photos of Julia and Daniel comes in to warn him about Sutton. Hatake is neither surprised, nor does he seem worried. He tells Daniel that she destroys those that get in her way and Daniel points out that she said the same about him. All Daniel wants is his trust and Hatake doesn't want Sutton anywhere near Julia. We see Sutton in private, grinding her teeth, and it's all very peculiar. Is she even human?

Anana and Balleseros talks about missing children, she tells a story about a boogeyman, and they appear to bond ever so slightly. Sutton and Alan speak in a corridor. He insists on coming with her team to retrieve Julia and she is forced to let him, though not without a bit of a standoff. Daniel spots Anana and Balleseros outside the base and brings them in. Anana believes Daniel is her brother and hugs him but he pushes her away. She tries to tell him who he really is and shows him a photo of her with her brother, but he claims it's nothing more than Photoshop.

Julia is attempting to learn the layout of the room while still blindfolded. A Vector gets into the room and she hides behind a cabinet. A scream is hear and it runs out after it. When Julia stands, the Vector is still there right in front of her. It would appear that she's done for but then her head begins to pound, her eyes flash silver, and the Vector runs away terrified.

Sutton questions Hatake in his office regarding Julia's importance. She has been going through the files he has on her. He says that Alan wants her back because they used to be married but Sutton isn't buying it. She is now determined to discover the importance (or not) of Julia. Sutton removes some contacts to reveal that she too has silver eyes, and reminds Hatake which side he is on. After she leaves, Hatake heads for his secret passage to level R. It's a safe bet that he's headed after Julia before anyone else can reach her.

Alan tries to attack Balleseros when he spots him, still furious over his killing Doreen. Sutton steps in to mediate the situation but when she and Balleseros end up in a private room, she attacks him. She berates him and we learn that she's paying him to spy on Hatake. She punches him again, before straddling him and making out with him. She tells him he needs to be a prisoner otherwise she won't be able to get Alan to be her ally.

Hatake reaches Julia and she tells him about the Vector. He looks very concerned for her and wants to run some tests. She tells him about her eyes and as he blindfolds her, he begins to cry. Seems like the silver eyes weren't part of his plan. Alan, Sutton, and the rest of the muscle head down the elevator to level R. Hatake warns Julia that Sutton is going to kill her. Julia wants to wait for Alan but he warns her that Alan doesn't know what Sutton is capable of. He begs her to come with him and she agrees.

The commandos get into into a room on level R and open fire. Screams are heard within and one commando is thrown back out of the room with a Vector on top of him. More Vectors come from the room and from behind Alan and Sutton. The team is not able to reach Julia - at this point, their only concern is escape. Alan and Sutton get away from the Vectors with some of the Commandos. Alan is determined to get to Julia, but Sutton holds a gun to his head and insists that he come back, saying he is an important asset and she's rather shoot him now rather than later as an infected man.She also not-so-subtly threatens to shoot Sarah, too. For now, he relents.

Daniel brings Anana to a quiet room where they are alone. She shows him another photo of his twin and he appears to be beginning to believe her. When he mentions Hatake, she says he is evil and tells him about the 31 missing children. He mentions that there were always children around when he was growing up and that he thought it was normal at the time. She asks what happened to them but he says he doesn't know. She hugs him again and this time, he doesn't push her away though he doesn't return the gesture, either.

Hatake brings Julia back up to his office where Daniel and Anana confront him about his past. Daniel has some security men escort Julia back to the lab and Hatake hands her something before she leaves. Contacts, perhaps?

Alan, Sutton, and the few remaining commandos return to level B. When Alan asks about Julia, Sutton coldly replies that she's either "one of those things," or she's dead and that she doesn't know which would be worse.

In the lab, Julia removes her blindfold and finds that Hatake has indeed given her contacts. Alan enters the lab before she has a chance to put them on. He is thrilled to see her and amazed to find that her symptoms are gone. She avoids making eye contact with him. They hug more, which Sarah sees from afar before walking away. Julia finally makes eye contact with Alan, revealing her silver eyes.

In one of the level B hallways, Vectors being crashing down through a ceiling vent. There's at least three for now, and they are out to get their black-oozing chompers on people.
