So if you missed the first issue of this arc, go read Angel and Faith #6, because it was a doozy. Drusilla is back, and she’s no longer crazy. Not sure how that’s gonna work out, I really liked her crazy, but let’s dive in.

Dru was once beautiful, innocent, unspoiled, and Angelus couldn’t leave her that way. He tortured her, took everything from her, drove her to madness, then made her immortal. But that’s all in the past, because the vampire before him, isn’t the one he remembers. And quite frankly I liked the old Dru better.

Her little pet Lorophage sucked out all her trauma, and she seems to have turned over a leaf. But it all seems a little suspect. She plans to walk down her “father’s” path, and help the helpless. The people around her who’ve all been helped by the Lorophage aren’t crazy like the ones that Faith and Angel encountered. Angel still tries to dispatch the demon, but it’s a lot harder to kill than Angel would have liked, Faith drags him out. And Dru holds no ill will towards him for all he’s done to her, or for trying to kill her pet.

This time Faith gets a shock of her own, coming face to face with her Father. He’s a changed man too, or so he says, there seems to be a lot of that going round right now. But unlike Dru, Faith wants nothing to do with her father, and she’s unwilling to take family advice from Angel, but his words hit her core.

Dru catches up to Angel, lost in the past. She refuses to force her help upon him, but with a clear mind, her vision is clearer as well, and she sees the danger in what Angel is doing. Pulling Giles into himself will lead to disaster, and he’s on the edge of a cliff of madness. He thinks he has Angelus contained, but he’s always close to the surface, adding another voice inside his head will loosen his control, and he can’t afford that, but he doesn’t have many other choices either.

Faith is finally getting everything that she wanted, but happiness is fleeting, and Faith is about to be crushed.

Another great piece of storytelling. The action story is picking up again, and the developments unfolding are a little shocking but very addicting. Whedon fans should be devouring this series, because it is fantastic.

A new arc of Angel and Faith kicks off this week with Daddy Issues. It starts with Angel stumbling into trouble, not so unusual for him, but it isn’t of the vampire or demon kind, at least not on the surface. He finds a madman cutting up some elderly.

And we get some Giles back story. Looks like Buffy wasn’t the only one that didn’t get a choice in her career plan. Giles’s pops pushed him into the family business, and he had to endure plenty of traumas, nearly lost his life at the hands of a Lorophage demon.

Over on the slayer side, Faith stops one of the slayers from making the same mistake she did, one that sent her spiraling out of control on a dark path. The cause of strife seems to point to Mother Superior, a vampire who is technically playing by the rules, but Faith seems to think is behind something bigger.

Angel and Faith share some intel, and their cases easily become connected, leading to a much bigger threat out there, a pet Lorophage demon is driving people insane from the sound of things and Faith is determined to stop it.

Mother Superior has a thing for churches, and so did Angel long ago. The memories aren’t pleasant ones, they anger him, but the past has come back and it may just bite him in the butt.

This is a great way to kick off a new arch. Old faces in new places. Love it. The issue really builds on the history we already know, and adds a little something more. And the twist at the very end was perfection.

 Harmony. Harmony. Harmony! This issue is all about the buxom blonde vampire and she wouldn’t have it any other way. She’s now a super celebrity in the vampire world and a sex tape on the verge of being released could bring down her empire, so she enlists Angel and Faith’s help.

It takes readers back to Angel’s private eye days, and away from the events of the last comic. I’m hoping in the mean time tensions are building, and it’ll make for a much higher octane next issue.

Angel may be looking for salvation, but not mindless oblivion on Harmony’s level. And honestly, he’s more fun when he’s brooding anyways. So far the pacing of the series has been much steadier and more consistent than Buffy Season 8 was, which makes for a much more enjoyable read.

Last time, we saw Angel he was hell bent on getting Mohra blood and bringing Giles back from the dead, thinking that by fixing his latest debacle he’d be back on the path of righteousness. Angel and Faith had located the last known vials, since the Mohra killed himself, and were in the middle of a drag out brawl to keep their prize.

Now, Pearl and Nash make a mess of the auction, and Angel vamps out, but it’s Faith who has the upper hand and  walks away with the vial of Mohra blood. Even though Faith continues to follow Angel, she has plans of her own. Plans that don’t include taking on half demon spawn, or magic blood, but plans that come closer to normalcy for Angel.

And just before she’s about to make an irrevocable choice, the choice is taken out of her hands, and what they find is the last thing they expected. In a world devoid of magic, seems someone has turned to science, and created their very own Island of Dr Moreau in their basement, without the cute furriness.

Pearl and Nash are up to some tricks, but what they intend is still left to be seen. Which is probably bad, badder, and baddest for our favorite brooding vampire. As Faith delivers good news, she gets bad news in return, maybe some really bad news.

Christos Gage delivers another great chapter to the Angel and Faith saga. His twists are delightful and the remains storytelling is very fluid, this series should not be missed by any fan of the Whedonverse.

Angel continues his quest for Mohra blood, and Faith bangs a few heads together.  Faith contemplates Angel’s worth, and Angel looks to the future, believing redemption is no longer in the cards. In the meantime Angel and Faith track down Fraser’s buyers, and uncover a deceptive scheme. Nothing is adding up where the Mohra blood sales are concerned, and Angel and Faith learn a little more about Mohras.

Meanwhile the slayers are having a rough night, when boredom sets in one goes looking for trouble, and Faith is forced to come to the rescue. The girls look to her for answers, which she doesn’t have.

The blood is tracked to the source, and at the auction nothing goes as planned, and just when it looks like it can’t get any worse it does. When are they going to catch a break?

If Faith has anything to say about it, Angel never will. Poor guy doesn’t have any clue what’s coming. Finally things get more interesting, as a twin disaster rolls in.

In Angel and Faith, Twilight is over, Magic is gone, Giles is dead, and Angel killed him— life basically sucks for Angel as he continues on his quest for redemption like never before, with his only ally being Faith, who’s been less than angelic in her past as well.

One way to undo what he’s done is to bring back the man that may have pushed him over the redeemable line with his death, Giles. Although Faith doesn’t think it’s possible, what with the world being devoid of magic and all, but it’s not going to stop her from helping him, even if she does need a little persuading from him. These two characters have always worked well together, and in comic form it’s much of the same chemistry.

It’s good to see that Angel does remember the time he was human and got to walk in the light with Buffy, no matter how brief that time was, and even though “magic” no longer exist, doesn’t mean that  the things that seem miraculous no longer do. There’s plenty of action in this latest issue, and there may just be a method to Angel’s madness after all, but Faith is hiding things, which may be the downfall of them all.

I adore the humor, and the Twilight jokes. The series isn’t as dark and somber as the Angel television series, being closer to the lighter Buffy series but it remains perfect and complimentary to the series that it sprang from, with the genius of Joss Whedon acting as executive producer.  I can’t wait to see how this series progresses.
