Scream Queens S2E1 - "Scream Again" Review

Following the other shows making their returns this week, Scream Queens returned with plenty of popular characters from season one and some new faces that are already gaining popularity all their own. The Chanels are as irritating as ever but their poor attitudes and incessant whining have been knocked down a peg as they must now fight their way back to the top after losing almost everything in season one. We're not quite sure what to make of the lack of follow-through with them being committed to psychiatric facilities. It all screams a lack of foresight from the writers/producers.

The main new characters that have folks talking are John Stamos' Dr. Brock Holt and Taylor Lautner's Dr. Cassidy Cascade. It would be irresponsible for me to not push the fact that Taylor Lautner is far too young (and young-looking) to be believable as a doctor considering the amount of schooling required to gain a medical degree. It's understandable that the show exists in a heightened reality of sorts but it warranted mention. John Stamos is refreshingly funny as his character uses just the right amount of meta to poke fun at Stamos always being known as the Handsome one. But no one is funnier than Jamie Lee Curtis, whose writing is so outrageous and made all the more brilliant by her spot-on delivery. Our one main gripe thus far is that the show has been back for all of five minutes and already the (white) Chanels are getting loved up with the new 'Hot' Doctors but Zayday, who remains the most interesting, likable and grounded character, shows no sign of getting some loving on. We're not trying to jump to accusations of misogynoir... but once we're a few more episodes in, we'll revisit this issue if the writing hasn't resolved the matter.

Scream Queens airs on Tuesdays on FOX.

Lucifer S2E1 - "Everything's Coming Up Lucifer" Review

The devilishly charming Lucifer (sorry, we had to do it) is back for its second season on FOX and right from the jump we get more of the things viewers loved in season one. Tom Ellis is spot-on in his delivery of the comedic aspects of his character and his chemistry is as strong as ever with Lauren German (Detective Chloe Decker), D. B. Woodside (Amenadiel), and also Rachael Harris (Dr. Linda Martin). But what Lucifer needs to do now is jump into developing more of the serialised plot points and mythology. Season one was a bit shaky in finding the balance between serialised and procedural story-telling. With these cop-shows it's easy for writers to fall into the comfort zone of the crime-of-the-week format. But genre fans have long since established an ability to be invested in longer stories and the writers should explore this more, which it appears they've begun doing with this introduction of Lucifer's mother. One other point that warrants further revision is the show's material for Kevin Alejandro, who has a track record of being criminally under-appreciated in his work. The writers would be better off putting Detective Dan in the know some time around whenever they do the same for Detective Chloe. Then create an ensemble of characters that can band together in fighting the forces of evil, be it supernatural or regular mortal homicide.

Lucifer airs on Mondays on FOX at 9PM.

Sean Pertwee on Performing Alfred's Action: "They let me do as much as I possibly can." ("Gotham" SDCC 2016 Interview)

"I don't bounce like I used to, I sort of splat now."

Sean Pertwee raves about the Emmy-nominated stunt team of FOX's "Gotham", and how they have allowed him the opportunity to do as many of the show's visceral actions sequences as possible. He sees this younger version of Alfred that is more physically capable as a natural fit to having these fighting capabilities because of the mentoring role that Alfred has for Bruce following the death of his parents.

"Being allowed to give Alfred physicality makes so much sense now because you suddenly realise who taught Batman to become Batman. The physicality came from Alfred. It's an honour to not reimagine, but just slightly redefine and give him a history and an edge which enables young Master Bruce to become the man he later becomes: Batman."

Pertwee teases that the communication in Bruce and Alfred's relationship will improve greatly in season three, as the two will begin training for Bruce to become the rich, accomplished playboy Bruce Wayne as well as the masked vigilante Batman. He also teases the possibility of Alfred possibly having a love interest and is eager to play that out should it indeed come to fruition.

Cory Michael Smith: "I don't think Ed sees himself as having done too much horrible stuff." ("Gotham" SDCC 2016 Interview)

Cory Michael Smith has rapidly risen as a fan-favourite for his role as Edward Nygma/"The Riddler" on FOX's "Gotham". In season two, he spiralled further down the path of psychopathic behaviour as he killed Miss Kringle, the woman he had attempted to romance from the show's beginning, and conspired to frame Jim Gordon. In entering season three, Ed will be released from Arkham back into "Gotham" with the opportunity to somewhat start over, though now the world will be aware of his crimes. Smith shares how Ed will be inclined to operate without emotional attachments to others so as to not be susceptible to vulnerability.

"What we're gonna learn about Ed is, this commandment that he gave Oswald which is 'Don't have a connection to anyone, cause if you do, you're liable to be hurt. If you don't, nothing can destroy you.' I don't know if Oswald is capable of that, but I think Ed is."

David Mazouz on Bruce's relationship with Alfred: "It's better than it ever was." ("Gotham" SDCC 2016 Interview)

David Mazouz is eloquent beyond his years, and highly enthusiastic about his job playing young Bruce Wayne on FOX's "Gotham" series, a prequel of sorts to the more frequently seen Batman mythology. Arriving to the show's press room in a "Straight Outta Gotham" t-shirt, he is eager to talk about the upcoming plot points for Bruce, without giving away spoilers of course.

"There are gonna be some major opponents he's gonna take on in season three."

As the show's writers have a wealth of source material and characters to choose from, fans are often clamouring for their favourite heroes and villains to be the next to grace their screens. The Joker has also been teased, though they have yet to make a permanent casting for the role. Still, Mazouz teased of more foes which Bruce will battle that presumably will be favorites from the comics.

"You're definitely gonna see him develop his playboy persona."

One of the decidedly more adult aspects of Bruce Wayne is the facade he uses to hide himself from suspicion of being Batman. The citizens of Gotham won't be inclined to suspect a spoiled, drunken playboy of being a masked, crime-fighting vigilante. Mazouz teases that season three will see Bruce take the first steps towards developing this reputation, thus brining his version of Bruce Wayne that much closer to taking on the responsibilities of Batman.

"A lot of season two you saw Bruce saying 'I promise Alfred, I'm not gonna put myself in danger', and he does."

This version of the Batman mythology has done far more to flush out the relationship between Bruce and Alfred than those set in Bruce's adulthood. Despite the friction between them during season two, Bruce and Alfred are now set to be closer than ever moving forward. Tune in to the full interview with David Mazouz here:

"Gotham" Writer John Stephens: "We Always Had The Intention Of Bringing Fish Mooney Back" (SDCC 2016 Interview)

When "Gotham" first reached the end of its first season, word broke that Jada Pinkett-Smith would not be returning as Fish Mooney. Many fans were left outraged by the news that the show's sole WOC lead character would be gone and that the show had seemingly exemplified Hollywood's tone-deaf approach to representation. But now it would seem that in this instance, there was less foul play than usual regarding diversity in media.

Writer John Stephens spoke about the third season of "Gotham" and how a main theme is transformation. While characters like Bruce, Selena, and Jim will each be embarking down notably darker story lines, Fish Mooney and other characters that weren't specified will be cycled in and out of the show's universe. Sleepy Hollow S3E6 - "This Red Lady from Caribee" Recap

Pandora summons a new big-bad for our Witnesses to face off against. This latest foe is a woman comprised of mystical bees/wasps that has a sting that will induce madness in the victim to the point of death. Abbie and Crane must work together and use the intel from Betsy Ross and Grace Dixon's past encounters with these monsters. But the pressure gets turned up when Abbie's boss Daniel gets stung and starts badgering Abbie to reveal secrets about Jenny and Joe's involvement with his case as well as who Crane really is.

Joe has a sit-down with Atticus Nevins, who is every bit as insidious as what Headless should have been. But while Joe is handing over the shard, Abbie and Ichabod are finally able to track down Pandora's lair where they use the similar method of how to kill bees (destroy the hive) to take down the wasp big-bad. But it's too late; Pandora has all the fear she has been seeking. The tree opens up and closes once more after Pandora has entered into it.

Ichabod has a re-do date with Zoe after their first one didn't go over well. It's the least interesting bit of this episode so we'll spare you the details. He and Abbie later ponder where Pandora might have gone and Ichabod poses that perhaps it was the entrance to the underworld. They know that it's only a matter of time before she returns and have concerns over what she will bring with her. But Abbie is more than ready to take her on, and Ichabod is inspired by her passion.

Finally, Jenny is shown to be exhibiting strange glowing as she dreams of visions related to the shard, which Atticus Nevins had handed over to her personally.

Sleepy Hollow airs on Thursdays on FOX at 9PM.

Sleepy Hollow S3E5 - "Dead Men Tell No Tales" Recap

Pandora raises General William Howe from the dead, a man whom Crane has a messy past with. Washington had sent Crane to kill his former commander and Crane offered to let him live if he'd order his men off the island of Manhattan but Howe refused to retreat. Crane was preparing to kill him but then soldiers burst through the door and completed the task themselves. Turns out Howe swore the oath of the draugour, essentially vowing to be a soldier even beyond the grave. Now he's brought his old army back from the dead to.

Howe brought these men to Sleepy Hollow's mausoleum where they kill a kid in cold blood. Howe's body was supposed to arrive back from the Jeffersonian (as learned in the Bones episode that's part of this crossover). The Witnesses follow the trail of the car that Pandroa ran off the road and end up getting attacked by the dragour in the process. But the soldiers disappear back into the cemetery ground once the sun rises.

The Witnesses must find the original resting place of Howe so they use the bone from Howe's hand that Abbie had shot off and have Dr. Brennan use her forensic expertise to help them trace its origins. In private, Booth has a heart-to-heart with Abbie, as he knows that she's working something off the books but he trusts her judgement. Booth and Brennan join the Witnesses to some underground tunnels to seek out the origin of the bones. Crane's ring unlocks a hidden tomb but when Booth steps on a lever, a walls drops in the middle of the room, leaving Brennan and Ichabod locked in with the coffin and a hot blue flame. Ichabod think it's magical and inextinguishable but Booth refuses to wait to figure out how to unlock a puzzle and shoots it which thankfully works and both pairs are reunited.

Brennan doesn't want to disrupt the archaeologically significant environment so she grabs Booth and drags him off while the Witnesses are left to discuss what they have learned. The dragour has a weakness: fire. But since Greek fire can't be extinguished, if they take down the dragour, the town will be burned down with them. Connect it back to Betsy Ross and how she led Patriot refugees out of Manhattan using a system of hidden tunnels before burning Howe's troops.

With the help of Jenny and Joe who prepare some Greek fire, the Witnesses are able to fight back against Howe and his soldiers. After luring them down into the tunnels, the Witnesses are able to burn the dragour and Howe commits suicide to keep Ichabod from having the satisfaction of killing him himself. The Witnesses later fill Booth and Brennan in via video chat, while leaving out some of the more supernatural details. The Jeffersonian will be taking jurisdiction of Washington's tomb to excavate it. Brennan wants Ichabod to help with it but he is too busy currently with the archives.

Abbie encourages Ichabod to ask Zoe out on a date. Daniel wants Abbie to help coordinate the task force working to take down a local crime ring that's buying items stolen from terrorists but then he sees Jenny and Joe working with one of their top operatives. Daniel is going after Atticus Nevins, the man who sent Sophie Foster to steal the shard. Joe wants to figure out Nevins' connection to his father, which is why he had offered Sophie the shard in exchange for a meeting with Nevins. Now Abbie's going to have to answer to Daniel.

Sleepy Hollow airs on Thursdays on FOX at 9PM.

Sleepy Hollow S3E4 - "The Sisters Mills" Recap

Abbie and Ichabod team up with Jenny to track down the "Tooth Fairy," a monster that has terrorised a local child, and the encounter was witnessed by her sister. The trio is informed about the case by Joe, who works as EMT. Young Jessica falls into a coma after being attacked by the tooth fairy and no one but our heroes believes Jessica's sister Saffron, as the demon is only visible to children. When Saffron draws what she saw, Crane remembers about a sickness that effected many children, including Betsy Ross' niece. The children would fall sick after losing their teeth and would never wake up. Betsy called in Paul Revere, who used his job posing as a dentist to ward off the Tooth Fairy by giving children silver coins after losing their teeth. The Tooth Fairy is actually an Ibizu, an Assyrian demon that eats children's souls. The process takes 48 hours in total to complete so the clock is ticking for our heroes.

Ichabod and Jenny head to the local elementary school to find which children are about to lose their teeth. One of the children, Gregory, is very quiet as Ichabod gives a presentation on all the historical inaccuracies they have been taught. Gregory not only has a loose tooth, he has been stalked at night by the Ibizu, but his mother hasn't believed him since she can't see the monster. Jenny gives Gregory a silver coin to protect himself, sensing that something was off with him. They decide that Ichabod and Joe will keep an eye on another little girl in the class that's about to lose a tooth, while Jenny and Abbie will watch out for Gregory.

Gregory's so busy being ignored by his babysitter that it's up to Jenny and Abbie to come running when Gregory screams after losing his tooth and using the silver coin to ward off the Ibizu. Jenny gets knocked out while using the hose to make the monster visible. Abbie stabs it but then gets thrown against the porch and knocked out too. The Ibizu runs off and Abbie is put in the hospital. Ichabod tells a sleeping Abbie to heal while Jenny assures Saffron that her sister will make it.

Pandora pays a visit to Abbie, waking her from her sleep. Pandora wants to give her backstory: her father beat her till she couldn't speak and then sold her as a slave. She then gained her ability to speak back and promptly convinced her owner to feed her father to a lion. She also talks about how Abbie treats life like a duty.

Ichabod and Jenny have figured out that they need to put a gun together that will be loaded up with silver nitrate because it will make the Tooth Fairy visible. The monster goes after Saffron after she follows an idea planted in her head by Saffron to use a tooth and fight the monster. Ichabod and Jenny save Saffron and chase the monster into the woods and are eventually able to illuminate it so Jenny can stab it through the heart with a fireplace poker. It turns to dust.

Jessica wakes from her coma and Crane visits the dentist for the first time in hundreds of years. He gets high on painkillers and dreams of Betsy. But upon waking he looks up the word Pandora used to describe him and Abbie and finds that it's Sumerian for "destroyers" and the pair realise that Pandora knows something bigger about them than they themselves know.

Sleepy Hollow airs on Thursdays on FOX at 9PM.

Sleepy Hollow S3E3 - “Blood and Fear” Recap

Ichabod decides to apply for American citizenship so he can better navigate his way through the world. But he and Abbie will need to work to stop Pandora's unleashing of the spirit of Jack the Ripper. A dagger has the power to unleash an unquenchable bloodlust in the person who picks it up and Pandora gives it to a "nice guy" named Nelson Meyers who want to impress his co-worker Emily whom he harbours feelings for.

When Nelson can't seem to get on her radar at a club, since Emily is dancing with someone else, Pandora charms Nelson with a dance and then he wakes up the following morning with the dagger on his bedside table. He kills the man whom Emily had danced with and Abbie and Ichabod are called in to examine the body that's been completely drained of blood. Ichabod shares the story of how his best friend in his youth was killed the same way.

Ichabod and Abbie track down Nelson after he doesn't show up for work. At his apartment, they find him more overcome than ever, as the weapon has been magically fused to his arm. Abbie shoots him when he attacks, but he simply walks away after falling through his window onto a car.

Meanwhile, Jenny and Joe are working together to track down the shard that was stolen from them. After tracking down Randall at a motel, they find that it's been absconded by a woman, whom Jenny follows to a diner. Jenny finds the shard hidden in the woman's car battery, a trick that matches August Corbin's teaching, leading Jenny to wonder just how many apprentices he had and what exactly is so important about the Shard.

Abbie and Ichabod are able to determine that the knife can't survive after feeding on infected blood. They learn of Nelson's obsession with Emily after finding photos of her on his hard drive so Abbie orders her to be placed into protective custody but Nelson tracks her down anyway. Ichabod and Abbie end up in a stand-off with Nelson who had Emily captive. They're able to get Emily away and Ichabod fights with Nelson while Abbie runs to get Emily to safety. Ichabod ends up stabbed by Nelson but immediately injects himself with a disease which quickly causes Nelson to drop to the ground and the knife releases its bond with him.

Ichabod is able to recover since he had infected himself with malaria, something he already suffered form as a child and is thus immune to. On Abbie's sofa, he mumbles about his gratitude to her for having his back and that they will defeat Pandora's evil plan once they've figured out what it is. Pandora is shown to be spying on them through her magic pond while her mystical tree of fear keeps growing.

Sleepy Hollow airs on Thursdays on FOX at 9PM.

Sleepy Hollow S3E2 - “Whispers in the Dark” Recap

Abbie and Ichabod are living together and Ichabod take it upon himself to cook and clean, just to get on her good side for her being nice enough to give him a room. His jealousy flares up when the pair are called in on a case of a murder (committed by Pandora and her fear demon), and they meet the new man in charge, Agent Reynolds, a man whom Abbie went to the academy with and possibly was a former flame of hers, though for the time being her lips are sealed. Through the recording of a call the man made right before his death, Abbie and Ichabod are able to hear the whispers of the demon and connect it back to some historical events. A man named Marcus betrayed Carne and Betsy's cause and the wraith killed many of their colleagues.

Jenny gets a call from Joe Corbin, whom she helps to bail out of some trouble. Joe is searching for answers about strange happenings in Sleepy Hollow but Jenny decides to keep things secret from him for the time being. Abbie and Ichabod encounter the wraith, which only stops inducing fear in them when it leaves to chase down a man named Williams, who fatally crashes his car.

Crane admits to Abbie that the creature induced fear in him regarding something he's never talked about. He had been captured and tortured to reveal names of other spies. Though he was able to escape without giving up any of the names, a moment of doubt in his resolve has plagued him with guilt ever since. Abbie assures him that he did the right thing and they determine the wraith's next victim, another agent with a secret.

Joe is taken captive by a man named Randall but Jenny tracks them down in the woods. Joe is shocked that Jenny knows such an unsavoury character. Randall is after an artefact and says that if Jenny hands it over, he'll let Joe live. Jenny unleashes a can of whoop-ass on Randall but when he threatens Joe, Jenny has no choice but to hand over the device. Randall promises to return if what she's given him is a fake. Joe wants more answers, and how his father was involved (a face Randall mentioned) but Jenny is still determined to keep Joe out of these things and wants them to get back to their regular lives.

Ichabod and Abbie have another encounter with the wraith and Abbie tells Ichabod to think back to how Betsy was able to get the wraith away from her. He realises that by calling the wraith by its true name, it will make it back off. By repeatedly uttering "Marcus Collins," the wraith takes on a more solid form which attacks Ichabod but then Abbie comes in and smacks it with a weapon long enough for Ichabod to impale it. It then dissipates, so the threat has seemingly gone.

Finally, Abbie admits to Ichabod that she found her father during the time she was away working for the FBI. Also, Joe decides to go after the shard artefact with Jenny to find answers about what his father was involved with. Ichabod and Abbie later learn about Pandora and realise that she is a threat to the pair of them, pondering all the evils said to be contained within Pandora's box.

Sleepy Hollow airs on Thursdays on FOX at 9PM.

Sleepy Hollow S3E1 - "I, Witness" Recap

Nine months after the events of the season 2 finale, we see a woman named Pandora meet the Headless Horseman in the woods and sings a song to seal him and his horse into a box. In return, she is granted the power of a demon that can kill its victims by inducing extreme fear in them.

Abbie is an FBI agent now and a highly successful one at that. But she's called back by Ichabod who needs her help after he was arrested for smuggling a tablet from his travels into the country. Abbie arranges to have him released and he shows her Katrina's tablet which is linked to Abraham's soul. The energy has been drained completely from it so this means that the second tribulation will now begin.

Abbie is driving Crane away from the prison and though he is determined that the tablet is part of their mission, she is insistent that their mission is over. But they then get a call about two dead bodies (which were earlier killed by Pandora's fear demon). But Crane quickly determines that a demon was responsible for the deaths and informs Abbie that evil has returned to Sleepy Hollow.

Forensics reveal that the victims were literally paralysed with fear before they were killed. Ichabod and Abbie are reunited with Jenny, who shares how she helped Irving disappear in order to protect his family. Their old hideout is in a building set to be demolished but the trio decides to band together to try to track down the murderous demon.

Ichabod shares about the relationship he had with Betsy Ross (which was both professional and personal) and it leads them to a message she had once carried which will help them kill the demon. Ichabod decodes it and learns that the demon is vulnerable to injury when its eyes are whitened and has an attraction to gunpowder. Ichabod and Jenny are able to lure the demon using gun powder while Abbie is on a raid but things go wrong, forcing Abbie to shoot the demon dead as it is attacking Ichabod. The demon turns to dust and the Witnesses share a hug.

Abbie helps Ichabod get his tablet back and she finds that the tablet has a secret double message in it, with a carving that bears much resemblance to her and Ichabod. It refers to them as "Destroyers." While in the bar toasting their success, Abbie steps away from Ichabod momentarily and runs into Pandora, who has just arrived in town and appears to cops out her enemies.

Sleepy Hollow airs on Thursdays on FOX at 9PM.

The Following S3E15 (FINALE) - "The Reckoning" Recap

Theo brings Ryan to an abandoned cabin where an injured Agent Barton is also being held captive. Max is able to determine that Theo has taken Ryan off because he wants to take his time to torture him instead of just killing him quickly. Max is told to head to the hospital because Mike has finally woken up. Eliza calls Theo who informs her that he is refusing to hand over Ryan, despite her wishes and bargaining power. She then threatens him and says that having the FBI as an enemy will be nothing compared to them.

In the hospital, Max admits to Gwen about Ryan being taken by captive, not wanting to lie to her. While looking after Mike, Max gets a call about a potential lead for tracking Theo's location. She asks to get the video so she can work in the hospital and stay with Mike who wakes briefly to see her standing by his bedside.

Theo begins to torture Ryan to get revenge for Penny and then he brings Agent Barton in and kills her in front of Ryan to add yet another death to his list. Eliza then arrives on site and has her men stop Theo from killing Ryan. She says she had placed a tracker on Ryan, who is discretely trying to saw through his restraints with a sharp rock. Max is able to determine Theo's location and tells Lisa who keeps the information to herself, as she is revealed to be a mole for Eliza. Eliza wants to know what Theo is doing and he threatens her that he has a failsafe set up to download all the information on her and who she's been calling to every live newsfeed.

Eliza has her men torture Theo into giving up the code and interrogates Ryan into sharing what he knows about her. She even threatens Ryan by showing him Gwen's ultrasound but Ryan for once, genuinely doesn't have any information that he's sitting on. She doesn't believe him and threatens to kill everyone he knows.

Max and Lisa are following her lead to try to find Theo. Max is able to find the car while Lisa lies and claims she's already called for backup even though she hasn't. Max says they should split up and takes off into the woods.

Ryan breaks free from his restraints and attacks Eliza, telling her that he was telling the truth and didn't know anything about her but now he sure as hell is going to find out. He escapes and so does Theo. Once Theo finds Gwen's ultrasound, he gets determined to enact a whole new type of revenge. Ryan finds Theo and tries to chase after him but Theo then tells Ryan he intends to take Ryan's child and raise it to be abused and neglected just as Theo was.

Theo spots Eliza and Lisa talking and Eliza warns Lisa that everything she's been given can be taken away from her if she doesn't do as she is told. Theo then attacks Lisa and forces her to help him. Ryan finally gets out and is about to be shot by one of Eliza's men but Max shoots him just in time. Ryan calls to say that Gwen is in danger but the superior officer calls Lisa who orders him to prepare Gwen for transportation and not tell her what's going on, saying that Ryan has been compromised by Theo.

Ryan tells Max about the pregnancy and they head off to save Gwen. But as she was being moved by the FBI, Lisa and Theo showed up. Theo shot Lisa and the other agents, and then kidnaps Gwen. Ryan and Max discover the dead agents and find that only Lisa is alive. She tells them about Theo kidnapping her and forcing her to help but of course they don't know yet about her mole-status with Eliza. With the FBI's resources, Ryan is able to chase after Theo. Ryan shoots Theo but of course he survives so Theo ends up falling down a waterfall. Ryan is holding onto the edge and tells Gwen he loves her before also falling.

The FBI searches for Ryan's body but are unable to do so. They also don't find Theo's body and we're not shown Theo's fate either. Eliza is shown to be in touch with her boss(es) and tells them that their team is prepared to move in if necessary. Max lets Mike know that Ryan is apparently dead and comforts Gwen when she comes in.

As it turns out, Ryan has deliberated faked his death, knowing that Gwen and his other loved ones are not safe until he takes out this latest threat. Ryan visits a wounded Lisa in the hospital and says that he knows that she was the one who planted the tracker on him and that she's working for Eliza. He points out that two agents are dead because of her and Lisa warns him that the ultra-wealthy aren't spared the psychopathy gene and their money protects them like nothing else. He kills Lisa after she may or may not have shared information on this organisation. As Ryan leaves, he only spares a brief glance to his loves ones gathered in Mike's hospital room. Max and Mike are promising her thatch won't have to look after the baby alone and that they will help her. In order to be reunited with them, Ryan must taken down Eliza and whatever insidious group she is a part of.

The Following S3E14 - "Dead or Alive" Recap

Mike is brought to the hospital where he must undergo surgery after Mark's brutal attack. An emotional Max waits out in the hallway and Ryan comforts her as Mike's blood is still bright red on her hands. Ryan later has a protection team set up to look after Gwen.

Theo shows up at Eliza's place with Daisy and shoots more of her team dead. Theo knows that Eliza will get in trouble with other higher-ups if she doesn't make this mess go away so he pushes her to come through with a way for him to leave the country once he successfully kills Ryan. He wants her to give him manpower assistance to get the job done.

Ryan knows that Theo and Daisy are together and that there's no way he'll give up his quest for revenge for the smarter option to get away. With Lisa's approval, he makes a public statement that further plasters Theo and Daisy's faces across the news, urging people to call in if they have any information on the two.

Max gets worrying news that Mike's condition is still critical and all they can do is wait and hope for the best. She wants to keep working to help her get through things. They're trying to determine which of Ryan's loved ones Theo will target. Meanwhile, Mendez is shown to be enjoying her time with her family while the FBI team are watching outside. Theo is shown to be attacking the security team before heading inside to kidnap Mendez and her family.

Ryan follows a lead which takes him, Max, and the rest of the FBI to Eliza, not knowing who she is or her involvement with him. She claims her name is Annie and she covers her tracks reasonably well.

Theo forces Mendez to make a call to Ryan and make him think that she's found a lead and ask him to meet her at the safe house. He agrees but still suspects something is wrong so he grabs Max and brings her to Lisa's office. He tells them to remove their SIM-cards from their phones and tells them what he suspects and recommends they keep it quiet and recruit only the best agents that they can trust, no more than a dozen, so they can go after Theo. Theo learns from Daisy that Mendez put the children in the panic room. He tells Mendez not to do anything to tip off Ryan or else she will keep Mendez alive long enough so he can burn the house down.

Eliza becomes paranoid after meeting Ryan so she calls Theo and tells him that they want Ryan alive or else the deal is off. Enraged, Theo prepares to kill Mendez's wife but Mendez tells him that if he hurt her, he won't help him if Ryan should call back. Theo backs off for the time being but warns that he decides when they all die, and no one else.

Ryan and the small FBI team begin to set up a perimeter around the house. Ryan wants ten minutes to go in on his own to make sure that Mendez and her family are safe. Inside, Ryan is able to get the jump on Daisy but then Theo is shown to have his gun pointed at Mendez. Theo's men also come up from behind on Ryan so he has no choice but to lower his weapon. Daisy considers shooting Ryan herself but Theo stops her. Theo then tells Daisy to kill Mendez, her wife, and the children, after which she'll be free. Ryan is able to give a signal of sorts to Mendez before he is escorted away. Daisy begins to undo Mendez and her wife's restraints but then they're able to take off running, though not before Daisy gets a shot off into Mendez's wife. They're able to get upstairs and hide in the panic room which their children open up for them.

The team then arrives and descends upon the house. Daisy attempts to flee into the woods but Max chases after her and guns her down once she catches up to her.

While Ryan is in pursuit of Theo, Gwen leaves him a voicemail saying that she's gone to her first ultrasound and has the first photo as well as the recording of the baby's heartbeat. She also invites him to come to the next ultrasound. Theo shoots and wounds an FBI Agent Barton and Ryan calls for an ambulance and just before he can give the location, Theo is shown to be lying in wait right behind him.

The Following S3E13 - "A Simple Trade" Recap

Mark is furious about Theo seemingly going back on the deal but Theo says that Mike is just bait and once he has his sister back, Mike is none of his concern. Then Mark can enact whatever revenge he likes.

Max and the FBI are able to track Mike's cellphone to the abandoned warehouse where he had been but upon arriving, no one is there. Upon finding Mike's phone next a pile of blood and brain matter, Max fears the worst. She brings the FBI in on what she has found regarding Tom's betrayal. Max goes to Ryan's place and begins banging on the door. Max, Lisa, and other FBI teams are at the door. Ryan has to run to hide Penny and then lets Max and Lisa into his apartment. They spot the bottle of alcohol and Max is highly disappointed. Lisa gets a call that Tom's car has been found. Max wants to press Ryan further for answers so after leaving Ryan's apartment, she sends Lisa off and comes back into Ryan's place with the key she has to his place. She walks in to find him dragging Penny's unconscious body around. Max berates him for his foolish decisions. She wants to call it in but Ryan stops her, saying Theo has Mike and wants to trade Penny for Mike. Max has no choice but to go along with Ryan's irresponsible decisions because they note that Tom may very well have compromised the security so if they get the FBI involved, it could mean the end of Mike.

Theo brings Mike, Daisy, and Mark to a theatre where he intends to make the trade-turned-betrayal which will result in the death of Ryan and the return of his sister. Mark ends up killing the theatre caretaker when Theo had only told him to find him.

Max tells Ryan the drinking needs to stop and makes him dump out the bottle and his flask. They realise they're going to need to steal FBI equipment needed to undermine the surveillance Theo will have set up to rig the meet for the trade. Ryan sneaks back into the FBI, taking a drink once he finds another stash of his from his locker. With Max's help, Ryan is able to distract the guard so he can get the necessary equipment.

Mike talks to Daisy, saying if she lets him go then he will let her run. He warns her that Mark will turn on her the first chance he gets to try to kill Mark, noting how it was the same thing he himself did to Max. He is able to knock Daisy out, grab a knife and use it to cut through his zip-tie restrains. Mike runs off to try to make his escape and it's then that Mark and Theo return to the theatre and wake Daisy up. Theo warns him not to kill Mike and to bring him back to him. Daisy tells Mark in private that he needs to do as Theo says and that if he doesn't, Theo will kill both of them. But Mark says he's already dead without his mother and brother. Mark corners Mike and prepares to shoot him but Daisy sneaks up from behind and shoots Mark in the shoulder. Mark takes off running, and Mike finds himself back in Theo's custody.

Lisa corners Ryan, demanding to know what's in the backpack and rightfully assuming that he's up to something. She searches it but only finds his bottle and he claims that he's been drinking and is a mess so he has to go home and look after himself. It's a good cover and he manages to keep his stolen equipment hidden. He gets a call from Theo with the location of the theatre at which the trade will take place. Ryan brings the signal jammer which keeps Theo from using the cameras he planted. Daisy must now do Mark's job as the field sniper.

Ryan and Theo each have their hostage in hand and meet inside to prepare to make their trade. Theo cuffs Mike to the chair on which the dead caretaker's body is sitting. He orders Ryan to cuff Penny to the seat next to where they're standing. Ryan and Theo are pointing their guns at each other and must move in a circular motion to move towards each other's hostage. Theo taunts Ryan with the knowledge he got from tracking his and Gwen's credit cards. He knows Ryan's been drinking and that Gwen checked into a hotel. Max is able to stop Daisy from shooting at Ryan. Ryan gets Mike free while Theo and Penny take off running. Max and Mike meet up with each other while Ryan takes off after Theo and Penny. Penny doesn't want to leave with Theo without killing Ryan but she ends up shot dead in the back by Ryan for trying to go after him. An enraged Theo is able to make his escape with Daisy.

Ryan gets in trouble for going rogue to save Mike and Lisa says she will be putting him up for review. Ryan spins a story about how Penny attacked him at his apartment and he arrested her but then Theo called to say he had Mike. Lisa wants to get him suspended but Ryan points out that since he's just killed the only person Theo's ever loved so now Theo will go after him with guns blazing.

Theo tells Daisy she had her chance to disappear so now she will be with him until he decides to let her go.

Ryan returns to his apartment and finds that Gwen is there to get the last of her things. Ryan says she was right about everything and that he let Joe get inside of his head and now he's ashamed of what Joe made him admit. The drinking and shutting her out was because he was afraid that she would push him away once she learned everything. He promises that he'll let her go this time and won't call her anymore. Gwen is preparing to leave but then she turns around and tells him that she's pregnant. If he's going to begin the baby's life, he needs to turn things around. This gives Ryan the push he needs to go back to AA meetings and start to put the pieces back together. As Ryan makes his declarations of wanting to be better, the vision of Joe gives a nod of approval and then disappears.

Mike and Max redeclare their feelings for each other, and all signs point to their getting back together. Mike even tells her that she's the love of his life. Max invites him over but then Mark sneaks up from behind and stabs Mike four times in the back. Mark pulls Max out of her car and tries to kill her but then Mike uses his remaining strength to shoot Mark dead. Max then calls in for help as she holds onto a badly wounded Mike.

The Following S3E12 - "The Edge" Recap

Theo is not happy about meeting with Daisy but she says an opportunity has arisen for him to get to Ryan Hardy. Penny retrieves Mark, who had been hiding from a sniper vantage point. Theo considers killing Mark for sassing him but when Daisy reveals that there is a corrupt agent inside the FBI, he decides to hold off on that. For now, it looks like these evil-duos will be teaming up! Theo's willing to work together, but only on his terms.

Ryan goes to visit Gwen at the hospital, wanting to do whatever it takes to patch things up. He just wants another chance. She says that loving her isn't enough. When he makes another emotional plea to meet later to talk, she says maybe.

Tom tries to cover his tracks by coming into Max's apartment and snatching up all of the hidden cameras. He misses one for now since Max came back out so he'll have to try again later to retrieve it.

Theo gets a text from Eliza and tells Mark and Daisy they're going to help him to establish their working-together dynamic. Theo goes to meet with Eliza, rightfully believing that it's a set-up to have him killed. As Theo makes his way to the arranged spot to meet, Mark, Daisy, and Penny take out the hit-men hiding in the field who were meant to go after him. Finally, Theo takes out the last of the men  that are coming after him. He takes the lead-goon's phone in order to hack it to get to Eliza. Next, Theo is able to track down that Tom was the one to use the feed. He knows that Mark wants revenge on Mike and tasks him and Daisy with getting Tom to plug Theo's thumb drive into the FBI database which will get him his access back. Mark plans to kill Theo once he's finished with Mike.

Ryan and the rest of the team get some information that allows them to track Sophia/Penny's information. They also note that Sloan is missing. Max at first thinks she could be the mole but Mike then notes that she said she had questions so perhaps she found something regarding the Mole. As Ryan and Max follow a lead regarding past crimes with Penny's prints that lead them to a drug house. They know about the death of Josh, Penny's old flame, and are able to follow this to another lead to track down a possible location which could be a hiding spot for Theo and Sophia.

Tom returns home after learning that the FBI is looking for Sloan. Her body is still in his bathtub but before he can make any moves to dispose of the body, Mark and Daisy take a photo of him with the body and blackmail him into doing what they want, which means he needs to plug the thumb drive into the FBI server. He does this and Theo gains access. This allows him to find Eliza and he tells Penny that they need to pack up since it's time to leave and get a new identity.

Ryan and Max are staking out the possible location and Ryan heads out for a moment, taking a drink from his flask. He then gets a call from Gwen, who says she'll hang up if he lies. He admits that he's drinking again but promises her he can and will stop. She tells him he needs to not only do that but quit the FBI too. He then spots Penny so he tells Gwen he needs to call her back. Ryan and Max take off after Penny but she runs off and is able to hide. They then get a call from Mike, who tells them that Sloane's dead body has been found in the trunk of a car. Max doesn't want to leave Ryan but he pushes her to go handle things involving Sloan while he will continue his pursuit of Penny. Ryan is then revealed to have found Penny and tied her up to keep her hidden. He wants information on Theo.

Theo goes to meet with Eliza, who lets him in despite all the brutality he has wreaked. She agrees to accept his offer and he shares that he wants him and Penny to be able to disappear and live a life where no law enforcement is hunting them. She says that if anyone knows about her or her organisation's involvement, the deal is off. As Theo is leaving, his phone gets a ping that the FBI has matched her fingerprints and he leaves Penny a message warning her about it.

Ryan brings Penny back to his apartment where she admits that Theo owes her because things were supposed to get better after he had the family killed but each foster home they went to was worse than the last. She's not impressed or intimidated by him and Ryan momentarily leaves her to have a drink. He gets a call from Max who says they're going to retrace Sloan's steps to try to find her killer. At the influence of his visions of Joe, he then decides to torture her.

Tom gets a call from Mark who demands that he bring him Mike. Mike is still working with Max and advises her to go home and get some rest while he'll carry on the investigation when she gets back. She says she's going to check the surveillance footage because of how the signal went dead right as they were on to him, suggesting that perhaps he knew what they were doing.

Theo hacks surveillance footage and discovers that Ryan has Penny. Ryan decides to waterboard Penny since he read that she is terrified of water because she almost drowned when she was seven. She admits that Theo is being helped by Mark and Daisy.

Tom lures Mike away with a false lead regarding Sloan and Max finds on the surveillance footage that Tom was the one who spotted her and Mike working on the laptop feed and realises that he is the one they're after. She tries to call Mike but Tom holds him up at gunpoint before he can answer. Tom admits that he killed Sloan but that it was an accident. Mike is able to guess that Mark is waiting at the place they've driven to. Mike tries to reason with him but Tom is beyond any of that. They head inside and upon arrival, Mark makes Tom think he's going to surrender the phone but instead throws acid on his face after which Daisy shoots him dead. An emotional Mark wants to kill Mark finally, but Theo arrives and tells Mark and Daisy to drop their weapons, as he intends to trade Mike back to Ryan so he can get Penny back.

Ryan is being tormented by his visions of Joe and getting violent with Penny, waterboarding her to try to get her to talk. His torture-session is then interrupted by a call from Theo, who informs him he has Mike.

The Following airs on Mondays on FOX at 9PM.

The Following S3E11 - "Demons" Recap

Ryan wakes up the morning after Joe's execution and must now face the repercussions of the bender he went on, namely that he went home with a random woman and hooked up with her. He goes home to Gwen and confesses what he has done. She is appalled by how far he has gone off the deep end and leaves, saying they are finished. She still hasn't told him that she's pregnant and Ryan continues to have visions of Joe.

Mark is still trying to go after Mike but Daisy stops him from attacking him on the street, as there was a security-detail present. She has another plan that she feels is a more practical approach and he agrees to do it her way. He also acknowledges that he is still Mark but likes to slip back into the Luke character when it is better suited for the situation.

Mike and Max are continuing their investigation into finding the FBI mole and Max receives a call from Gwen who tells her that Ryan is drinking again but she can't be there for him anymore. Max then heads over to check in on Ryan and tells him about a lead they've gotten regarding Theo. They've been able to track down Theo's true origin, Terrence Jackson. Theo's entire family was slaughtered, and Theo/Terrence pointed the blame on an abusive boyfriend of his mother and the boyfriend ended up dead six years later, after which Terrence disappeared.

Theo and Penny head to a wealthy and twisted resort. They must be tricky about getting in and is warned about it not being wise to get involved with these people but Theo says this is exactly what he wants. The resort is run by a woman named Eliza.

Max calls Mike over so they can work with Ryan to work on Theo's case. They're able to figure out that the murder of Theo's family was not committed by the abusive boyfriend, as a broken mirror they find in photos of the crime screen match the M.O. of a serial killer that had been active in the 1990s. The team plots to get this information out there, believing that Theo won't be able to resist going after that serial killer. Ryan later gets in trouble for going after the killer himself but he's been able to better determine the killer's psyche. The killer breaks mirrors because he thinks they will send him back to hell.

Daisy and Mark find a hacker to help track down the person who has the feed that monitors Max and their hacker is able to determine that it's someone inside the FBI but he says hacking the FBI is beyond his capabilities. Daisy says she has someone that can complete the task, thinking of Theo.

Theo and Penny have snuck into the resort and that's where it's revealed that the resort is one where people come and bring a guest they plan to kill. They manoeuvre their way to the back where they meet Eliza. Theo offers to bring her Ryan Hardy, since it's only a matter of time before she'll end up on his radar anyway, in exchange for which he plans to ask her to help his regain his anonymity. But for the time being, he just leaves his card, saying the rest of the discussion will be had another day.

Ryan is working with Agent Lisa Campbell to find the killer of Theo's family and she advises him to walk away from Gwen since their line of work doesn't leave much room for having romantic relationships. When Ryan heads downstairs, he finds the dead body of a hotel staff member killed by the serial killer with whom he'd had a run-in with. The killer makes it into Lisa's room but Ryan comes crashing in just in time to beat him up. He nearly kills the man with his own weapon before Lisa threatens to shoot him if he doesn't stop. When the man is brought in for questioning, Ryan gets him to reveal that Theo and he were friends and that Theo asked him to murder his own family except for his foster-sister Sophia (Penny) who had been taken in just for the money. The man also calls Theo a demon.

Daisy uses a way to get in touch with Theo and before doing so, warns Mark that he is perhaps the scariest man she's ever met. He says she is free to walk away now but she says she owes Mark so she will stay with him.

Tom is questioned by Agent Sloan as part of the mole-investigation and continues to lie to cover his tracks. When there's some discretions in what he says, Agent Sloan comes to his place to question him further and she figures out that he was lying. There is a brief struggle in which she is shot and ends up dead, much to Tom's horror.

Ryan returns home, hoping to find Gwen but instead discovers that she had come back while he was away to clear out her belongings from the apartment. His vision of Joe tells him that he's better off without her and offers Ryan a drink.

The Following airs on Mondays on FOX at 9PM.

The Following S3E10 - "Evermore" Recap

It's Joe Carroll's execution day and the preparations are underway. There's protestors outside the penitentiary and Joe still has his newly fashioned and sharpened weapon from the sunglasses he absconded. As Joe gets moved, he kills some guards and takes three hostages whom he barricades in the execution room with him. He informs the FBI and makes his demands, one of which is for Ryan Hardy to arrive in the next two hours or else everyone will die.

Theo retrieves his sister from a run-down house and kills the man with whom she was keeping company after he tries to stop Theo. Once his sister wakes, Theo fills her in on everything that's happened lately, including his killing Strauss and Ryan being after them. There's a plan but they're interrupted by the news involving Joe Carroll and his hostages.

Gwen calls Ryan before he's going to enter. She doesn't want him to go in and tries to tell him about being pregnant but he tells her to share her news after he's returned. He tells Mike and Max to look after each other if anything should happen to him. Ryan meets Joe at the door of the room he's barricaded in and Joe wants him to cuff himself but Ryan only agrees to do so once Joe has released the hostages. Joe only releases one but it's good enough for Ryan. Joe tazes Ryan once he gets inside.

Theo tells his sister how he needs the code which will give him the name of someone that can give him his anonymity back. She doesn't approve of him going after Ryan, saying it's too dangerous and that he'd be better off just disappearing.

Joe wants to have a conversation with Ryan. Joe is insistent that he and Ryan are soulmates and wants to stage an intervention that will force Ryan to admit some hard truths about himself. Joe threatens to cut out one of the hostage's eyes and Ryan then admits that Joe is in his dreams and in the dreams, they are friends who drink together and Joe teaches him to kill. This makes Joe remove the wire he had secured around Ryan's neck and says he's the only one who knows the real Ryan. Ryan is pushed to admit that he gets satisfaction from the power of killing. Joe uncuffs Ryan, who then punches Joe who places his arms out in surrender to be cuffed.

Theo hacks the prison security network to get a look inside. As Ryan leads Joe and the hostages towards the exit, Theo's sister hacks the system to release the death row inmates. They're trapped, since the FBI team waiting is unable to get inside since the whole system is down. The hostages are overwhelmed by the inmates. One inmates takes Joe off, while the politician-hostage gets stabbed. Two inmates take the female-lawyer-hostage off but Ryan, after overpowering the inmates he was fighting, takes off after them and kills the men and leads the woman back inside.

Joe is fighting his inmate-captor and Ryan arrives as Joe is being overpowered. It's clear that he's considering letting the man kill Joe but eventually, the good in him wins out and he saves Joe. Together, they take out the last inmate. The FBI are finally able to get inside and take control back of the situation.

Theo's sister wants to disappear and for Theo to go with him. Theo says that the only way to disappear is for Ryan to die, saying his death is the key to their future. Ryan calls Gwen to tell her that he needs to stay for Joe's execution and get closure on this. Meanwhile, Theo is finally able to crack the code after his sister gives him some words of guidance. The decrypted message reveals a set of coordinates.

Ryan asks Joe why today had to happen and Joe says that Ryan is his real legacy and Joe says that know he can die knowing he will live on through Ryan, whom he considers a brother. As a parting gift, Joe gives Ryan a cryptic message that is apparently meant to help against Theo. As Joe is about to die, he observes that Ryan is in the viewing gallery. Joe's final words are, "Quoth the Raven, never more." As Joe dies from lethal injection, Ryan appears rather shaken, though perhaps this is also due to the trauma and exhaustion of the day's events. Later, Ryan heads to a bar to grab a drink, and imagines that Joe is there to share a drink with him.

The Following airs on Mondays on FOX at 9PM.

The Following S3E9 - "Kill The Messenger" Recap

Ryan has nightmares about Joe coming into his apartment and helping him prepare to kill Gwen. She comes to wake him and tells him to come to bed and that she doesn't want to fight anymore. Ryan is later attacked by some police officers because their computer had said that his car came up stolen with a suspect matching his description. It seems clear that Theo and his computer-hacking skills are to blame.

Theo is looking for information on Strauss' secrets. He breaks into a woman named Juliana's office, as Juliana was Strauss' go-between. The FBI is still trying to track down Theo and they're determining how he has been hiding his murders behind murder-suicides. Meanwhile, Theo is still hacking Ryan's life to throw him off balance. He even hacks the traffic lights to cause a car crash for Ryan. Theo then calls him and says that he needs to be punished. Theo is just getting started.

When Theo is unable to crack the code he retrieved from Juliana's office, he tracks down a failed Army ranger named Gary, who is also a guard at the penitentiary where Joe is imprisoned. He befriends Gary and takes him out for drinks. Theo is also shown to have been a student of Joe's when he was a professor. Theo also hacks into Gwen's work files to make it look like she's over-prescribing meds. Gwen is now having doubts about whether or not she can keep their relationship going when everything she's worked for is being threatened.

Mike is still on the hunt for Mark Gray and Mark overhears a conversation between Mike and another agent about searching for him so she gets herself assigned to the case. Mike is in Atlantic city and tracks down Daisy, who is hunting, robbing, and killing rich men in order to get by. Mark wants to kill her, except Mark is now claiming that he is Luke, saying that Mark drowned. But he agrees to spare her life for now when she says she has a way to find Mike Weston.

Theo takes Gary to enact revenge on the man who turned Gary down for the ranger program and then kills the man. Gary heads into the prison with Theo in his ear. Theo hacks the system so Gary can get in, and has Gary communicate with Joe on his behalf. Theo wants Joe to give up the key to crack the encrypted information of Strauss' secrets. Theo promises Joe that he'll keep killing in Joe's honour, which will ensure that his name lives on in infamy. But Joe isn't so ready to pass his legacy on just yet so he kills Gary and says he still has a card up his sleeve to play.

Max and Mike track down the laptop that was removed for Mark's safe house after the raid, which was never filed with evidence. Max's boyfriend Tom realises what they're going and takes off running to destroy it before they can find out hat he had it but they're still able to figure out that the laptop was in the building. Now they are under the impression that the FBI has a mole.

But Ryan needs to visit Joe following the murder of Gary. Ryan had been refusing to do so and once Joe slyly mentions Gwen, Ryan attacks him in a fit of rage. Joe is flattered to be the "most important relationship" is Ryan's life. Ryan says that Joe is just a disease that will be cured once he's been executed. When Ryan gets home, he tells Gwen he wants to make things work and reassures her that he loves her, and an emotional Gwen hides out in the bathroom with a pregnancy test that reads positive.

Meanwhile, Joe is shown to be fashioning a weapon/key/tool of some kind from a pair of sunglasses that he stole off of Gary's uniform. Could Joe be making a break for it? We'll have to wait and see!

The Following airs on Mondays on FOX at 9PM.

With the season finale mere weeks away, Gotham sent a handful of cast and crew to WonderCon to tease the plot developments to come, from the Ogre to more darkness, and more!

Executive producer John Stephens gave insight as to how the writers and producers pick from the wealth of source material, previewed the Ogre, and evaded giving too many spoilers away as to the hot Gotham questions about the Joker and other big DC names.

Ben McKenzie was a good sport in discussing Jim Gordon's rather lacking tendencies in regards to self-preservation, the relationships with both Dr. Thompkins and Barbara, getting diversity in his material, and just how dark these last few episodes will be!

Robin Lord Taylor talks us through developing the physicality of Penguin's limp, bringing to life this legendary character and teased more bloodiness in the season finale.

Cory Michael Smith thoughtfully tells us about the decisions he made in Ed Nygma's mannerisms, why those who have been bullied should not look to Ed as a behavioural model, and what Ed will become as the show carries on.
