The Gifted S02E11 "meMento" Recap

Flashback to 1985 and Andreas Von Strucker is seeking alterations to be made on the music box. After the job is completed, he kills the shop owner that did the job, using a powered sword.

In the present story, Reeva is working to recruit new members to the Inner Circle. However, these newcomers have a highly sadistic past, prompting Lorna to determine that Reeva must be stopped if the Inner Circle is to achieve its mission in the right way.

The Struckers have been hiding away in a small apartment they've rented, pretending to be humans. Lauren has been studied the history of the Von Struckers and has a dream of Andrea's death by way of gunshot and also sees Andrea's power of turning her barriers into cutting disks. Reed and Caitlin do their best to tend to her and keep the landlord from discovering the truth about their identities.

Benedict Ryan orders the Purifiers to raid a youth shelter in search of some mutants. Jace is interrogating one young teen that ran when they arrived when his partner kills a mutant teen in cold blood. He lies about the events to the police and the media hail him on the news as a hero. His ex-wife calls him to commend him for saving the lives of children, and that their daughter would be proud. She asks to meet but he cannot face her given all the guilt he feels for lying.

Police come to try to question them and Caitlin uses her more advanced powers to create a distraction outside to make them leave. Caitlin approves of Lauren's approach while Reed does not, believing that using her powers was too risky. Later on, Lauren intimidates the landlord that had called the police on them using her powers. She also finds hair samples from the Original Fenris hidden in the music box.

Marcos and Clarice visit Erg in search of information to help them in their investigation. He once again invites Clarice to join his community in the sewers but she is still intent on staying above ground fighting the good fight and finding happiness with John. Later while she is talking to John, who is still healing after his time with the Purifiers, Evangeline calls him to say that he needs to gather the Mutant Underground for what's coming next.

Lorna and Marcos reconcile as a romantic couple, despite having many philosophical issues to still work through. When they are later investigating Erg's trip they spy Reeva meeting in secret with Benedict Ryan.

The Gifted S02E10 "eneMy of My eneMy" Recap

In a flashback to three years prior, Marcos, Lorna, and Johnny make a promise to each other to always be there for one another when it matters most.

In the present, Andy visits Lauren in a dream. He wants to talk, feeling saddened and lost after losing Rebecca, but Lauren is reluctant to let him back in after he abandoned their family. Her parents advise her to be strong since this could be the key to getting him to come home. They get a call from Marcos, who tells them that the Purifiers have captured John. They reluctantly decide to call Lorna for help. Marcos tells hero meet him alone in exchange for getting Fade back.

Clarice wants to come with Marcos to the meet, blaming herself for John getting captured since they fought and she left him right before the Purifiers got him. When Marcos tells Lorna about John getting kidnapped, he also reminds her of the promise they made to one another. They know that John will never crack and the Purifiers will ultimately decide to kill him when they're unable to get anything out of him.

Jace leads the interrogation of John at a Purifier compound.  After some time, John decides to tell Jace about the Inner Circle. Jace has never heard of the Inner Circle but is able to deduce that Lorna and Andy were involved with the attack based on the description of their powers. He doesn't believe John, since he has never heard of this new group and doesn't know about the rift in the Underground.

Lorna figures out where the compound is and brings Andy with her to meet with Marcos, Clarice, and the Struckers. Andy is amazed to learn about how his father's powers have been re-manifesting but is saddened to hear about how they've been unstable. Reed uses his new understanding to try to reach out to Andy, and Caitlin also attempts to appeal to him to return but Andy is insistent that they don't ask him that. Lauren however doesn't trust Andy's return so easily.

Clarice snaps at Lorna and Marcos when they're too busy arguing instead of focusing on the mission at hand as they drive to the compound to save John. Jace still doesn't believe John's claims about the Inner Circle. He considers believing John's story about Andy and Lorna leaving the Underground but then the Underground members launch their attack with Lorna and Andy in league with them. When Jace sees Lorna and Marcos attack the compound together, he believes John lied and shoots him multiple times with a shotgun. Jace gets out of the room before Marcos and Lorna get to John and rescue him.

The Struckers have another falling out when Andy gleefully tortures a member of the Purifiers for trying to shoot Lauren. His family is horrified when Andy defends his actions and says that all the Purifiers deserve to be wiped out. Caitlin tells Lauren they will need to destroy the Inner Circle if they're going to get Andy back and Lauren agrees.

Lorna kisses Marcos goodbye but insists that this doesn't change anything between them.

Clarice reaffirms her love for John, who is still badly wounded from Jace's torture and shooting him.

Separately, Lauren and Andy each train to strengthen their powers.

The Gifted S02E09 "gaMe changer" Recap

In a flashback to one year prior, Rebecca's parents call Sentinel Services to take her after her increasing powers nearly kill her teacher. In the present, she has been returned to the Inner Circle. Andy is upset that Reeva has imprisoned Rebecca in a windowless containment unit which is parallel to the way the humans kept her captive.

Marcos is still mourning his separation from Dawn but John reinvigorates him by telling him about the lead regarding the company Regimen that the Inner Circle has been pursuing. Clarice and Marcos go with John to find an analyst, though they are horrified that John intends for them to kidnap him in order to question him.

Lauren tells her parents about Madeline's true intentions to cure every mutant of their abilities and once they are convinced of the truth, Reed is insistent that he is willing to give up the potential cure if it means saving all of the world's mutants. They learn more about the cure being developed and how it will turn off the x-gene. Lauren flirts with Noah, Madeline's assistant, to try to learn where the samples of her blood are being kept.

Clarice confronts John about how his obsession with stopping the Inner Circle has triggered the Purifiers to start up a larger manhunt for all mutants in the area. When they can't come to an agreement, Clarice decides to leave John, who works with Marcos to get information from the analyst. Ultimately, they learn that Regimen controls every mutant prison collar in the entire country.

Madeline reveals to the Struckers that Lauren's DNA carries two versions of the x-gene. She is interested in having Andy be part of the study but they inform her how Andy hasn't been living with them for months. Lauren gets a tour of where the blood samples and research are kept when Noah brings her down to the high-security storage area.

Andy breaks Rebecca out of her storage container with the intention of them going on the run. Rebecca however, wants to stay and kill the entire Inner Circle first. Andy pleads with her to not do this but Rebecca declares her intention to do to the Inner Circle exactly what she did to the people at the bank. Andy uses his powers to send her flying but in the process, she hits her head on a sharp corner of an arch and dies instantly. Andy is distraught, while Reeva assures him that he saved them all. Lorna later visits Andy to comfort him with this trauma.

Fade shows up and kills the analyst under Reeva's orders but John and Marcos fight him, knocking him out in the process. The Purifiers are also closing in on them fast and arrive on the scene. John insists on staying behind so that Marcos and Fade can escape but as a result he is captured by Jace.

Madeline and Noah managed to stop the Struckers from destroying the research by bringing security down. When Madeline says that mutants never should've been born, Noah turns on her. He rips out the implant that suppresses his powers and tells the Struckers to go while he stays behind and destroys the research and blood samples.

Lorna and Andy head to a Regiment facility and destroy their servers, resulting in the shut-down of all the collars keeping all the incarcerated mutants in the country captive.

The Gifted S02E08 "the dreaM" Recap

After Lorna reprimands Rebecca for killing the innocent humans at the bank, Rebecca decides to leave the Inner Circle and runs off much to Andy's horror. John and Clarice try to track the Inner Circle following the events at the bank. They later catch up to Rebecca and she reluctantly tells them what little information she knows about what the Inner Circle is planning before running off again. The inner circle was looking into the company Regimen. After Rebecca runs off, she is captured by Fade.

The remaining Struckers meet Madeline, a scientist who is working on a cure to help stabilise the powers of Mutants who are struggling to control them. She is able to temporarily help Reed with his, and goes on to say that she wants to study Lauren's powers in order to make a cure for any mutants that want to rid themselves of their powers.

Lorna is concerned about the escalating violence and the danger that it could pose for baby Dawn. She speaks with Esme about sending her out of the line of fire and Esme suggests a special mutant school in Switzerland. Flashbacks show a younger Lorna with Marcos while she was newly pregnant and speaking with him about her father. Further flashbacks into Lorna's youth show a young teenage girl lost and confused about herself, her powers, all while living with her aunt. She isn't able to have any conversations about her birth father and the only contact she ever had with him was his leaving a medallion for her as a gift.

Lauren meets Madeline's assistant Noah who had an implant put into him that allowed him to regain control over his destructive vibration powers that nearly killed his younger brother when they were kids.

Lorna brings Dawn to Marcos so he can say goodbye and he does so, but not without repeatedly protesting that he shouldn't have to say goodbye in the first place since he's never been given the opportunity to get to know her in the first place. Ultimately Lorna decides to bring baby Dawn to live with her Aunt, now understanding that her own father must have done the same thing that she is now doing to Dawn as a way of protecting her. Later on, Lorna takes the medallion given to her by her father and turns it into a helmet.

Lauren is horrified to learn that Madeline's true intentions are to cure all mutants, particularly when it's revealed that her brother Matthew was the founder of the Purifiers.

The Gifted S02E07 "no Mercy" Review

An important insight is offered into Reeva's origins and current motivations. Eight years ago she was of the philosophy that mutants and humans sould work together in harmony. But when some humans murdered one of her mutant friends right in front of her, things took a darker turn. Now she has been dating Quinn, an employee of the bank the Inner Circle is set to rob. Though it's all part of the plan she does have genuine feelings for him. It brings a context to her actions and plays right into the nuance that has been one of the strongest aspects of "The Gifted" since it first premiered.

There's also a growing division among the various groups, further enhancing the aforementioned nuance. Rebecca brutally murders the humans at the bank after the mission is completed, shocking everyone else from the Inner Circle, including Reeva. As a powerful, sociopathic child unaware of the larger plans at hand it's an impulsive move that's bound to trigger countless consequences for all parties working to further their own agendas.

Reed is still struggling to get control over his powers but Caitlin and Lauren are unwavering in their support of him. He is brought to abandoned clinic and Caitlin convinces him to visit his father's old assistant Madeline in the hopes of finding answers. It's a refreshing development to see this family unit working together more cohesively after weeks of rough patches caused by the loss and pursuit of Andy.

The philosophical rifts are also kicking off in the Underground, as the others learn about Clarice teaming up with Erg. She makes it clear that she was feeding him information in order to help John but he's still displeased with their collaboration. The evershifting orientations of people working together is another part of what keeps the series fresh and exhilarating to watch. Even Jace is now willing to go against the SS and expose their wrongdoings, all in the hopes of getting his wife back after she filed for divorce. Things are escalating fast and we'll eagerly tune in to see how these things get resolved... or don't.

The Gifted S02E06 "iMprint" Review

Flashbacks on "The Gifted" season two have been effective story-telling devices that enhance the deeper themes and context of the present day character arcs. In episode 6, "iMprint," we're also treated to a well-executed flashback arc that this time explores the origins of the triplets. Meanwhile, Reed's struggles to master his powers escalate, just as the Purifiers further their violent agenda. With more secrets revealed, battles fought, and lives lost, we're going to highlight some of this week's stand-out moments.

Esme and her sisters are finally treated to a back-story exploration, with the greatest revelation being that they weren't triplets but genetically manufactured quintuplet clones. The other two sisters, Celeste and Mindee, died during an escape attempt at age 13 when they worked together to kill their handlers. Her flashback sequences combined with her present-day arc with Lorna and baby Dawn offer a necessary nuance to the story. In order to keep the story from being stale, the writers must work to maintain the moral grey area between the Mutant Underground and the Inner Circle. With the added threat of the Purifiers rising up it adds another dimension to how tragic the inner-Mutant conflict is when there is a far larger threat to their well-being.

If there was ever any question of Jace finding redemption and getting out his downward spiral, they've now been laid to rest and possibly forever. Jace's warped ideology is often painfully hard to watch, not because it's a poorly executed story, but because of how much it resonates with today's society. To the credit of the show's writers, Jace's journey exemplifies how people can weaponise their bigotry once they succumb to scapegoating marginalised groups for circumstantial tragedies. The added layer of introducing Shatter's character-journey before he is tragically shot down by Jace is excellent storytelling. At this rate Jace seems destined to either die a villain or only find redemption if and when he has an epiphany of how far he's fallen and decides to sacrifice himself for a mutant(s) afterwards.

Lauren's trauma from her violent encounter with Andy is on full display when she aggressively pursues a lead with Caitlin to learn more about Rebecca. Her emotionality is truly heart-breaking, as Natalie Alyn Lind beautifully presents Lauren's pain through her expressions. It's understandable that she wouldn't fully communicate her pain through words, as it's a lot to deal with. The question remains as to whether or not these two siblings will be able to find their way back to one another as their respective causes continue to progress down such divulging paths. The dream sequences take on a 'Nightmare on Elm Street' feel as Lauren discovers that an injury in the dream causes her finger to bleed when she wakes. It's yet to be elaborated as to how far this connection will go and whether or not they could go so far as to manifest physically by transporting through one another's dream but it's certainly an intriguing concept to ponder, and the possibilities it offers the story.

The Gifted S02E05 "afterMath" Recap

Twelve years ago, Jace was just starting off as a cop. His partner unlawfully harassed a mutant and Jace disapproved of this. But when the cop explains to Jace about prior incidents with mutants, Jace decides to go along with it.

Lauren is brought back with the other mutants following the hospital conflict. Caitlin wants to stay with Lauren and tend to her but Reed assures her he can look after her and encourages Caitlin to go help the other injured mutants being brought in. She asks John for answers about what went wrong with the plan and he promises that they all did theist they could and that they will continue to work and find a way to save their loved ones.

Andy still feels guilty about injuring Lauren but Lorna assures him that he did what he needed to and that he pushed only as hard as he needed. The mission was a success. The new patient they took is named Rebecca/Twist and she is highly traumatised from her time in the hospital. She is unresponsive to their attempts to interact with her. Andy says it makes sense after how she was treated, and even the Frost sisters shudder at seeing her thoughts. The Inner Circle plans to use Rebecca in the larger plans they have. The group first needs to test her powers but she refuses to do so. Andy is disapproving of how they speak to her, and tells the Frost sisters and Lorna that they're not going to win her over by speaking to her like she's a weapon instead of a person. He gets permission to talk to her, as they have nothing to lose by him doing so.

Marcos and Clarice head into the sewers to meet with Erg in the hopes that he'll take in the new mutants so they can hide with the Morlocks. Erg agrees to take them but only under the condition that they will each bran an "M" mark into their cheeks. Marcos is disgusted by this sentiment.

Caitlin and the other medical staff struggle to treat a patient whose blood and skin are acidic. They need to decompress his lung and John insists on doing it since the other doctors can't press into his skin without permanent injury. John injures his hand but he saves the patient's life. Afterward, Caitlin treats his hand so it can heal properly, aided by his super strength. John admits to her that he feels guilty for failing mutants he was supposed to lead and save. Caitlin assures him that he's done his best  and they're interrupted by the man, Michael, who wakes after his treatments. He and John bond over their shared time in the military. Michael tells them about the patient the Inner Circle took, Rebecca. He's also able to tell that a psychiatrist named Doctor Taylor worked with them and was kinder than the others before passing out from his injuries.

Andy visits Rebecca in her room and speaks to her kindly, explains to her why he likes being in the Inner Circle. He begins to bounce a ball against the wall and she turns it inside out, revealing her power to him. He introduces himself and she does the same.

Jace attends his first meeting with the Purifiers who declare their intention to take to the streets and enact violence. Jace says that fighting pro-mutant protesters will only make themselves look bad. He proposes that they use their man-power to track down the mutant fugitives that had escaped from the mental hospital to legitimise themselves as an organisation and present themselves as part of the solution.

Rebecca goes with Andy walk around the facility and when she observes the window, she says that she's trading one entrapped location for another. He offers to take her outside and she eagerly agrees. Lorna encounters them on the way out and pulls Andy aside to say it's a bad idea to expose her to too much so soon after coming out of the hospital. Andy reminds her that Rebecca needs to feel free if she's going to be part of their cause. Lorna relents and Andy takes Rebecca outside.

The Purifiers attack the clinic that Caitlin is working in, following Jace's suggestion of trying to find where the fugitives may have sought medical treatment. The men, including Jace, barge into the clinic while Caitlin and John have brought many mutants to hide in the basement. Caitlin is shocked to see Jace on the surveillance feed.

Andy and Rebecca are enjoying a lunch out together and Rebecca agrees to join the Inner Circle. She then sneaks with him while she turns a police car inside out. She pushes him to do the same and he uses his powers to further destroy the car. When they return to the Inner Circle, Rebecca kisses Andy in the elevator on the way up. Upon meeting Lorna and the Frost sisters, Rebecca asks them to tell her about the mission she's to be a part of.

Jace notices the gurney that held the acidic man and interrogates the doctor. A Purifier viciously beats the doctor until Jace stops him. The Purifiers are forced to flee when they hear the sounds of sirens coming. John is angry when he learns that Michael and Caitlin conspired to let Michael die when John was insisting on exposing himself to go upstairs to find more supplies to treat Michael.

Erg gives Clarice her name, "Blink," and encourages her to not hide who she is.

Finally, Jace is shown to have taken some documents from the clinic and calling up the Purifiers with the intention of hitting 'them' where they live.

The Gifted S02E04 "outMatched" Recap

Sixteen years ago Caitlin was advised to terminate her pregnancy of Andy at five months due to unfortunate complications that threatened both her and his life. She refused to do so, despite the risks.

In the present, Reed and Caitlin talk to Lauren about her dreams and that Reed intends to reach out to John for guidance regarding his powers. Lauren shares that she believes her dreams are telling her that she needs to be the one to bring Andy home. Marcos advises the Truckers that Andy is a true believer of the philosophies of the Inner Circle and how even Lorna told Marcos to his face that she loved him but that what they were doing is more important. Caitlin still won't give up on her son. The Underground decides to seek out the hacker Wire for help again. Reed pulls John aside and tells him about his powers manifesting again and is worried that the powers are destructive. John warns him that the thing he needs most is training but when Reed learns that his powers are connected to his deepest emotions he seems interested in trying something like anxiety medication as a temporary fix until he can figure out a better solution.

Marcos, Clarice, and John head off in search of Wire again but John gets shot by a mutant inside. His name is Graph and he is Wire's brother. He informs them that Wire was killed so they kidnap Graph as he's the only other hacker they know.

Jace tries and fails to get back in touch with his wife, who isn't speaking to him after he went back on his word and pursued the mutants anyway. He gets a call from a police officer that overheard what Jace was staying at the station. They arrange to meet in person to discuss the mutants.

When Graph wakes from being knocked out he refuses to help the Underground. Caitlin deduces that Graph is addicted to Kick and exports this to force him to help despite the ethical implications of this, shocking Lauren. Graph gives in and helps them learn that the Inner Circle is attacking an old mental hospital that Lorna was held in many years ago. Lauren, Marcos, John, and Clarice leave together to go stop them.

Jace finally manages to reach his wife on the phone and she says that she is leaving him for good, despite his protests for her to stay.

Sage blocks Graph's hacking attempts, prompting Caitlin to dose him with a pharmaceutical equivalent of Kick to get him back on track in his effort. He nearly overdoses as a result. Reed and Caitlin call the team to warn them that Lorna is at the hospital which is attempting to evacuate the staff. John and Clarice go into the hospital and are horrified by the conditions they find the patients in. Outside, Marcos expresses his concerns about Andy's philosophical stance and the magnitude of Reeva's power. Lauren remains certain that she can break through to Andy.

Jace meets with the police officer who confesses that he's in the Purifiers, an anti-mutant hate group. They wants him to join but Jace is reluctant, believing the group to be too extreme for him to be a part of.

John and Clarice finally encounter Lorna, who releases all the patients in order to create chaos so she can escape. Caitlin tells Marcos and Lauren where to find Andy and Lorna since they're heading to a truck around back and loading up a specific patient they were after. Marcos and Lorna get in the path of the oncoming truck and Lauren insists that she do this herself. She uses her powers to stop the car, forcing Andy to get out and confront her directly. She tells him it's not too late and he tells her to get out of the way. She mentions the dreams, and he seems surprised to learn that she's having them too. Andy appears momentarily, secretly conflicted about having to fight his sister but is enraged when she says that he's scared. He uses his powers against Lauren and causes a blast that sends her and Marcos flying back. Lauren is knocked unconscious as a result and though he still seems somewhat conflicted he gets back into the truck and leaves with the Inner Circle.

Reed is shocked by Caitlin going so far with Graph, whom she had to save from a heart attack. Reed pushes Caitlin to accept that the surveillance footage they watched showed Andy smiling and happily working with the Inner Circle. They then learn that the hospital staff have gone on television and confessed to inhumane treatment of their patients. The attack is perceived a rallying point in favour of mutant rights. Reed and Caitlin learn from John of their failure to get Andy back and that Andy injured Lauren in the attack. This causes Reed's powers to aggressively manifest again despite his attempts to take anti-anxiety medication to stop them.

Jace sees the news story about the attack on the hospital and decides to join the Purifiers.

In the truck, the patient that was taken by the Inner Circle slowly sits up.

The Gifted S02E03 "coMplications" Recap

Six years ago Marcos visited his dying father. Marcos makes one last attempt to connect with him but his father rejects him because he is a mutant.

In the present day Lorna is insistent that Marcos is needed to help Dawn's jaundice. All the medical treatments the doctors are trying, it would seem that the only answer is Marcos' powers. The regular light therapy treatments haven't been effective. Marcos has been drinking his sorrows away and John is angry at Marcos for the giant light display he put into the sky for all the city to see. John tells him he needs to stay home and pull himself together while John and Clarice will go out in search of Erg.

Caitlin reaches out to Reed to apologise for how things have gone between them, also expressing a concern for Lauren's well-being. She asks Reed to look in on her and suggesting bringing Lauren along on the supply run he is about to go on. He reluctantly agrees, still stressed about the resurgence of his powers.

Marcos goes out to a diner to clear his head and begins to hear the voices of the Frosts. He follows the voices out back where the sisters tell him he is needed because something is wrong with the baby. He willingly goes with them and even puts the bag over his head so he won't see the location as they drive to it.

Lauren and Reed are on the back from the supply run when Reed's powers fully manifest. He melts the steering wheel and it causes the car to crash. They are relatively unharmed but Reed warns Lauren that they need to get out of there before they are seen. They grab the supplies from the car and  run away from the road. Reed is apologetic, saying he should have pulled over sooner. Lauren asks Reed how long he was going to hide his powers but with the arrival of police cars there's no time to talk.

John and Clarice go into the sewers in search of Erg but struggle to find anything. Clarice suggests they turn back but John gets angry and insists that they stay put since it's the only lead they have. Clarice uses her powers to see past what Erg's group wants to see and she and John jump through a portal. They are immediately surrounded by armed men who order them to come with them.

Jace Turned heads to D.C. in contrast of what he had told his wife about leaving behind his hunt for the mutants. He befriends some local law enforcement and offers up his advice on certain things, including his theory that the recent light display in the sky being the result of Marcos' powers.

Marcos reaches the Inner Circle headquarters and meets Reeva who orders him to help the baby after which he will leave. He is also reunited with Andy, who acts cold and disconnected despite their having once been friends. Marcos is stunned to see Lorna again and overjoyed to meet his daughter, Dawn. He holds her and activates his powers to gently treat her jaundice. Lorna is insistent that he not make the reunion harder than it needs to be and not try to rekindle things between them.

John and Clarice are brought to Erg, who only wants to speak to Clarice alone. He explains that the mutants who live down in the sewer are doing so to stay away from everyone else. Erg is willing to offer them the information they want on the Inner Circle and only trusts Clarice because she is someone who is visibly a mutant (when she's not disguising her distinct features) and that her portal powers are special. The information he's offering will be traded in exchange for Clarice being his spy for what's happening on the surface.

Jace Turner visits the scene of the crash and follows the blood trail. He spots Reed and Lauren right as they're making their getaway in a stolen car but they don't see him running after the car. He is shocked to see them since they had been thought to be dead. Reed says he wants to keep the powers secret from Caitlin until he can figure out what's happening but Lauren says that keeping secrets are what got their family into this state of disarray in the first place. She later admits to an occasion where she accidentally broke some windows when a when a boy tried to assault her. She was going to tell Reed but when he came to pick her up, he mentioned some anti-mutant sentiments and she felt inclined to keep it secret from that point on.

Clarice returns to John and offers up some intel which involves the Frosts being spotted by one of the sewer mutants trying to look into the Health Department.

Marcos cures Dawn and is ordered to give her back to the Inner Circle daughter. Lorna thanks him for curing her and Marcos gifts her a rattle he made specially for Dawn. Marcos makes a heartfelt plea to come home and despite Lorna admitting she loves him too she insists that she and Dawn need to stay so that Lorna can fight for a better future for Dawn. The Frost sisters work to try to overpower Marcos but he is able to break through their abilities, shout out to Lorna that they're lying to her and are in her head and fight his way back. However, Reeva uses her own powers to beat him and instructs Andy to escort him out.

Jace returns to the local law enforcement and tries to give the information he has learned about the Struckers being alive but they won't listen to him as they've learned about his being let go from Sentinel Services.

Clarice and John return home and she doesn't admit about what Erg asked her to do. Clarice pleads with John to open up to her about what's bothering him and he admits that Evangeline said that John failed the people he was supposed to lead, that Lorna and Andy will never get out of the Inner Circle, and that they will have to kill them. She tries to comfort him but the moment is interrupted by the return of an injured Marcos who shares what has happened and swears vengeance on the people trying to take his family away.

Reed and Lauren get back safely. Reed meets with Caitlin privately and admits how his powers are returning and is guilt-ridden over having accidentally destroyed the file department that had information on the Inner Circle as well as his wedding ring. Caitlin is upset at him for not having told her the truth immediately since he first started getting headaches about six months ago when Andy first left. Reed apologises again and Caitlin hugs him while Lauren watches through the window of the room, relieved hat her family is on the mend.

Lorna holds Dawn while shaking the rattle Marcos made. Reeva instructs the Frost Sisters and Lorna that they need to get to work to start a revolution.

The Gifted S02E02 "unMoored" Recap

Tuscon, Arizona. Three years ago. John Proudstar is in a cage fight. Just when it appears as if he might get beat, he taps into his mutant strength and bests his opponents. Afterwards, he is enjoying his earnings when he is approached by Evangeline Whedon. She explains that she is an attorney that used to work with the X-Men before they disappeared. She knows a considerable amount of information about his life and history. She wants to give him an opportunity to make something of his life by leading the Atlanta station for the Mutant Underground. She lost her job when her bosses learned she was a mutant and was considering suicide before the X-Men found her. Though he is reluctant at first he decides to accept the offer.

In the present day, John checks on Marcos who has made a gift for the baby and admits that he's never lost hope that he and Lorna can be together again. John encourages him to keep having hope but Marcos says hope has been killing him and now he doesn't even know if Lorna or the baby are alive. The information they have on the Inner Circle isn't enough for them to track down a precise location and John decides to contact Evangeline in the hopes of her being able to aid their search.

Reeva discusses the electrical surges Lorna caused during childbirth with the Stepford Cuckoos. Reeva orders that all of the humans they've been in contact with for matters during the birth be killed. One of the sisters is reluctant because of the ethical issues of this but eventually all three leave together to begin hunting them down.

Jace Turner is trying to pursue a new career as a lawyer. His obsession with mutants is still present and his wife pushes him to let it go since this is what sent him down such a dark path previously. After speaking with another friend who advises him to let his mutant obsession go, Jace returns home and begins throwing away his old items related to hunting mutants. He makes a promise to his wife to let things go so they can move forward in their life.

Reed and Caitlin argue with one another about her obsession with finding Andy at the cost of neglecting Lauren and him who are still present while she is not. Lauren overhears the entire argument from her room.

Andy is struggling to be focused and present in his training, as he has been having shared dreams with Lauren. Andy later confides in Lorna about his struggles.

The Underground tracks down Evangeline and upon learning that they are trying to take on the Inner Circle, she refuses to get explicitly involved in their fight. The only lead she is willing to give them is another mutant named Erg who may have more information that will help them. She also gives them Reeva's name and the information that she was believed to have taken over the Inner Circle. Evangeline also berates John, blaming him for things going wrong in Atlanta. Later on, Caitlin and Marcos assure him he did the best that he could and that they all worked together but John continues to blame himself.

Reed tries to better understand his re-emerging powers by reading his father's old notes. Lauren comes in and he hides the notes and the two discuss old family moments and reminisce over photos from a happier time. Lauren later chooses to admit that she still has guilt over killing fifteen people back in Atlanta with her shared power with Andy. She wants Andy to come home but she also doesn't want this because of the threat that she and him pose when their powers are combined.

Andy tries to call the clinic in an effort to reach Lauren but when his father takes the call instead, he remains silent on the line before hanging up and destroying the phone. Unbeknownst to him, one of he members of the Inner Circle has been spying on him and calls Reeva to inform her of Andy's attempt to contact his family. When Andy continues to struggle in his training, Reeva considers killing Andy as she doesn't believe he can be let free if he isn't going to be fully committed to their cause. When he is open with her about his struggles regarding his connection to his family she decides to spare his life and gives him a pep-talk to get him re-focused in his training.

Marcos struggles over missing Lorna and the baby but after remembering a happier time with her he shines a beacon in the sky. She sees it, knowing that it's him saying hello, and goes to tell her baby Dawn about it. But upon checking on Dawn, Lorna finds that she has fallen ill.

The Gifted S02E01 "eMergence" Recap

The members to the "Inner Circle" of the Hellfire Club have a discussion about recruiting Lorna Dane/Polaris and Andy Strucker to join. The elder leaders disapprove of Reeva Payne recruiting these new members so she uses her powers to kill them so she can be the new leader and is aided by the Stepford Cuckoos in the coup.

Six mothers later, the Mutant Underground are shown to be working hard to carry on their mission of saving mutants that are being hunted by Sentintinel Services. Marcos Diaz/Eclipse leads much of the action while Reed and Caitlin are mostly focused on finding Andy. Caitlin continues to use her medical training to help mutants injured in attacks.

The Inner Circle purchases a large munitions factory for the sole purpose of Lorna have a secure location to give birth to her baby. When experiencing sensations such as the baby kicking, her powers flair up with little ability to control them. It's unclear how intense an experience childbirth will be for her. Lorna remains suspicious of Reeva, having heard rumours of what actions she took to get to her position of power. Reeva assures her that she will be fine.

John and Clarice are happily coupled up. She expresses concern over the increasing intensity and borderline irrationality Marcos is displaying as the birth date of his child draws nearer. John promises to talk to Marcos to try to keep him focused and stable.

Reed and Caitlin grow concerned over the well-being of Lauren, who has ben greatly upset by the loss of Andy. She has a nightmare of sneaking out one day and reuniting with Andy, noting his changed hair and clothes before Andy grabs her hand and activates their destructive power. Despite her protests, he won't let go of her hand and tells her to stop fighting it. She informs her parents what she has dreamt but doesn't want to go to the location that she met Andy at in the dream.

Andy and Lorna have grown closer. She implores him to promise to put her baby first. Lorna is concerned that if anything goes wrong during the birth that Reeva will prioritise saving Lorna instead of her child. Andy is reluctant at first but Lorna reminds him that he is a von Strucker and has the ability to stop anyone and he agrees to make sure the child's well-being is the first priority.

Marcos and and Caitlin try to gain information on the Inner Circle by visiting a mutant hacker named Wire. Upon using his hacking powers, the only information he is able to give them is the scale of their resources and power. There's nothing specific to be learned that will help them get back Lorna and Andy yet. When Marcos and Caitlin return from the mission injured, the other members of the Underground are alarmed and concerned for their well-being.

Reed is also struggling by the apparent re-manifestation of his mutant powers. He has yet to reveal this to anyone, opting to struggle in secret to keep them under control. Lauren later argues with her mother about her insisting on hunting for Andy to the point of putting her own well-being in danger. Reed later elaborates on Lauren's sentiments regarding Andy choosing to leave, as opposed to being kidnapped against his will.

Lorna goes into labor and this causes her powers to trigger electrical flairs all across the city. Marcos immediately recognises them as Lorna's powers and the Underground tries to follow the origins of them to find Lorna. Meanwhile, Lorna is struggling to give birth due to a psychological block. The Stepford Cuckoos show Lorna a vision they've had of the future in which they achieve great political power and are able to create a better life for mutants. This allows her to give birth and all the electrical disturbances stop. The entire city goes dark and Marcos emotionally breaks down, not knowing if the woman he loves or his child are still alive.

The Gifted S01E13 "X-roads" Recap

Four years ago Polaris was at a mental hospital for being involved in an anti-mutant protest that turned violent but law enforcement don't know that she herself is a mutant. An attorney named Evangeline visits her, knowing about her mutant state, and recruits her to join the underground on behalf of the X-Men. Evangeline reveals herself to also be a mutant.

Esme is enraged when the mutants escape the building without Campbell, caring little that the lives of children were in danger during the fight. They drive away while pursued by local law enforcement but Polaris knocks over a telephone pole to stop them from following her.

Campbell informs Montez about the attack and stresses that now is the time to strike. They decide fly to Washington to set things in motion with expanding the Hound program.

The Reeds argue when Andy says he wants to go out and help the other underground leaders. Lauren points out he is speaking like the infamous Struckers and Reed points out that he himself and Caitlin are humans but they're not going after the mutants so they can't claim that all humans are a threat. Lauren later pleads with Andy to not go down a path of darkness and destruction but the two continue to disagree philosophically about being mutant and how to solve the problem that their kind face.

Esme warns the other underground leaders that if they don't stop Campbell from getting to Washington that the threat against them will be more severe than ever. Eclipse tells Polaris he is worried about her after seeing the ease with which she tore down the telephone pole. Esme continues to convince her to embrace her heritage, as her father had been a member of the Hellfire club.

Turner is tracking the Struckers with a new pair of Hounds and manage to find the underground's headquarters. The underground members are forced to escape, while Eclipse figures out that Polaris has missing. Esme admits that she has convinced Polaris to go after Campbell and take him out. The trio decide to go after her and Eclipse warns her that if she sees Esme's eyes turn blue, he will kill her. Polaris is being driven to the airport by some other Frost sisters.

Though some members of the underground have escaped, including a van full of children, the remaining inhabitants have to retreat back inside since the SS has nearly arrived. Reed leads a defense of the building with Caitlin by his side. Reed leads the remaining fighters while Caitlin continues to help the others escape through a hidden evacuation tunnel. Upon getting everyone out, the Hounds are infiltrating the building and Lauren volunteers to stay behind with Andy so they can use their combined abilities to bring the building to the ground with the hounds still inside of it. While the mutants escape, they manage to briefly look back at the building about to be destroyed before continuing to get away.

Eclipse, Polaris, and Thunderbird arrive and try to reason with Polaris at the airport where Montez and Campbell are in their private plane preparing to leave for Washington. Despite their pleas Polaris will not change her mind so she attacks the plane while it's in the sky and rips off pieces of it until it falls out of the sky, crashes, and explodes on impact. The other mutants are knocked down by the destruction and when they look around, Polaris is already gone.

Turner quits SS when his superiors attempt to set him up as a scapegoat for the botched mission to bring in the members of the underground. The underground regroups in Nashville, Tennessee where Polaris and the Frosts arrive to interrupt their meeting. They are looking for recruits for the new Hellfire Club. Several underground members decide to join them, including Andy.

The Gifted will return for season 2 on FOX.

The Gifted S01E12 "eXtraction" Recap

The Underground leaders form a plan that sends Polaris, Eclipse, Thunderbird, and Clarice out to meet with the Frost sisters at a safe house to regroup before going after SS. The Struckers are having an internal conflict in that Andy and Lauren are disagreeing on whether or not they should go after SS themselves. Andy wants to take action but Lauren doesn't want to do anything too impulsive. But their parents interrupt their discussion by saying that SS will be going after their grandmother Ellen to try to get more information on Otto's research.

The Underground leaders arrive at the safe house, while Reed and Caitlin sneak out to meet with Ellen at her office to warn her that SS will be coming after her. Andy and Lauren wait outside where Andy is still wanting to take a more aggressive approach against SS while Lauren remains weary. Ellen doesn't want to leave her life behind but is shaken by the news that SS killed Otto in their approach against mutants and that Otto himself was a mutant. She knew he had secrets but never had any idea about his being a mutant. Reed shares how the serum Otto used blocked the X-gene in Reed. SS agents arrive outside to try to go after Ellen but Andy uses his powers to knock them back, ordering them to leave their family alone. Lauren uses her powers to try to block Andy from doing any further harm. He retaliates and the two send blasts of their powers against one another, sending them both onto the pavement. Reed and Caitlin run out with Ellen, load up the kids, and escape.

Esme explains to the Underground leaders that when the X-Men established the organisation, their rival group the Brotherhood established the new Hellfire Club before their own disappearance. They go after a prominent leader in the anti-mutant movement and impersonate his security team. Clarice stops Esme from needlessly torturing the man they have kidnapped and brainwashed into helping them infiltrate a conference to go after Campbell.

Campbell approaches the anti-mutant Senator Montez and convinces him to lend his political support to expand the Hound program for use across the country, agreeing with Campbell's efforts to eradicate the X-gene.

Ellen gives the Struckers the name of Otto's research partner, Madeline Risman, someone she had suspected him of having an affair with. She even once came to the house to see Reed. Ellen is emotional and apologetic to Reed, wishing she could've protected him better but Reed tells her she did the best she could. Ellen tells them she will go on the run on her own, saying she has a friend she can stay with but can't go with them to the Underground because she would only hold them back. Before leaving, she gives Andy and Lauren her love, fully accepting them for who they are. Lauren later warns Caitlin that Andy has changed and they need to be careful of him.

At the conference Campbell and Montez are at, the Underground leaders arrive disguised as security. Thunderbird tells Clarice she did the right thing by stopping Esme's torture and tells Clarice she is one of them. Clarice kisses him before opening a portal for her to get into the building with him and Eclipse. They manage to reach Campbell and disarm his security but he gets away by using some children as human shields. More SS forces arrive and open fire on the mutants, with Thunderbird running over to act as a shield for Clarice. Eclipse screams at her to open a portal so they can get out of there.

The Gifted will return for season 2 on FOX.

The Gifted S01E11 "3 X 1" Recap

Two years ago, in Athens, Georgia, Blink and her boyfriend/date head to her car after a movie-date. They are surrounded by a group of Purifiers that vandalise her car before setting fire to it.

Esme and her clones/sisters reach out to the Underground to ask for help in rebuilding the Hellfire Club by dealing with the remaining Hounds but their request is denied. Reed and Caitlin want to get their kids back and leave for Mexico as originally planned, as they feel that the tensions regarding their willingness to talk to Sentinel Services is too much to be able to stay with the Underground. The kids aren't fond of leaving the Underground, as they would rather stay and fight. Still they all leave as a family and stop off at another mutant refugee location where they are reunited with Wes.

Esme and her sisters visits Andy to try to convince him not to leave the fight and then they visit Polaris whom they attempt to manipulate into assisting the Club. Her father was a member so this is a pressure point they hone in on as well as her pregnancy and the consequent desire to make a safer world for her baby.

Polaris argues with the other leaders about what to do, having been convinced to take down the Hounds. Eclipse doesn't want to compromise their integrity. Sentinel Services unleashes an attack on the base the Struckers are at using a set of Hounds that have been enhanced by the experimentation. Polaris, Blink, Eclipse, and Thunderbird make their way to the base, having ben tipped off to the attack by Reed.

Andy is badly injured in the fight and the Underground leaders struggle to fight off Sentinel Services, in particular the hounds, and to help the others get away. It isn't until Esme and her sisters arrive and pick up the slack to disarm the Sentinel Services guards so the group can get away in their vehicles.

Despite the setback of the escaped hostages, Campbell and Jace have a meeting with the director of Sentinel Services and propose an international expansion of the Hound program, believing it to be the most effective way to hunt down mutants.

The Underground decides to go ahead with their partnership with the Hellfire Club, but it's revealed that the sisters were the ones that orchestrated the attack from Sentinel Services.

The Gifted S01E10 "eXploited" Recap

Two months ago, Esme was working on the campaign re-elect Senator Montez, who runs on a campaign that stresses security, human right, and a society with no mutants. Esme was working under the name Stacy. She had just asked to sit in on one of his important meetings and gets permission but is forced to flee when she receives a telepathic warning that Sentinel Services is coming. They raid the area, having been tipped off that Montez's campaign has been infiltrated by mutants but Stacy has already gotten away.

Resuming the present day plot, Polaris wants to go back and attack Sentinel Services but Reed and Caitlin want to form a practical plan that won't risk the lives of their children. John tries to get everyone on the same page but struggles to get things truly cohesive.

The Strucker children consider trying to use their combined power to escape but are still weary about doing so. Meanwhile Turner berates Sonya for manipulating his memories and causing him to forget that his daughter was dead and have to re-experience that trauma. She is apologetic but he doesn't care what she has to say on the matter. He brings the prisoners to Campbell, who wants to test the Strucker kids in particular for their abilities.

Reed and Caitlin, after speaking with Esme, head to Turner's home and hold him and his wife at gunpoint to talk about securing the release of their children. Esme relays the news to the other mutants at Underground and try to form a plan to break the kids out.

Campbell orders the Strucker kids to use their powers for testing. When they refuse, he shoots Sonya dead so they can see the threat he pressing. He then threatens to kill Blink so they relent and join hands to unleash their power for the first time within an adamantium holding cell. The monitoring scientists warns Campbell that the censors in the cell are reaching their limit but Strucker orders that they keep going. They end up causing a bit of an explosion but Campbell is still pleased with the display and orders them to be sent back to their cells and given something nice to eat for their great contribution.

Reed implores Turner to understand what's wrong about his children being tested on. Caitlin apologises for coming into their home, noting how when Turner did that to her in her own home, she was terrified. Turner's wife Paula is shaken by this information, not having realised how unethical her husband was being and horrified to hear what Caitlin shared about the experiments done on mutants that result in them being pumped full of drugs, psychologically tortured into being compliant slaves to Sentinel Services. Reed and Caitlin leave in peace and Paula stops him from calling in the authorities and pushes him to reflect on what exactly he has done in their daughter's name.

Campbell's scientists isolate an important amino acid in the Strucker kids that has been in the other Strucker siblings. Campbell believes it will serve as an important and permanent solution to the 'mutant problem'. Turner arrives at Sentinel Services with other agents and declares he'll be taking back the mutants, also learning of Sonya's death though Campbell merely claims it was an 'incident' that took place during one of the experiments.

The Underground learns that Sentinel Services has shown up to Trask Industries with many transportation vehicles and see it as the opportunity needed to free the mutant prisoners. Esme offers herself up to come along and be a key player in the plan by using her telepathy to monitor the security of the situation.

Jace and Caitlin are shocked when they come back and find out that Esme manipulated the entire situation. Esme was the one that suggested they go convince Turner to release the prisoners and agreed that they wouldn't attack but claimed to Underground that they ran off to force them to release the prisoners. They realise Esme is a danger and it's then that she uses a taser on Marcos, declaring that she has a plan of her own. She uses her telepathic powers to make the various guards kill themselves and Turner is forced to sit back and watch the destruction and horror, having been shot but not killed. Two of the prisoners are shown top e identical to Esme and get off the transport vehicle to join by her side and force the remaining guards to kill each other and themselves. Marcos wakes to see the shoot-out and runs back to the other Underground leaders and warn them what has happened. The other prisoners get off the truck and the Esme-trio tell them it's time to go and that the fun is just starting.

The Gifted S01E09 "outfoX" Recap

One year ago, the Strucker family are out at a park and Andy tries to teach Lauren to skate. When she almost falls, he catches her and their hands glow when they are joined. They are both shaken by the experience but don't say anything further about it, though it's implied that this is the catalyst to their powers being jump-started.

Returning to the present, the Strucker children are shaken to learn about their criminal ancestors and their combined destructive powers. Reed doesn't want to tell Andy and Lauren that they might have the same abilities but Caitlin convinces him that they need to live honestly and without secrets. When they tell them about it, the kids decide to try out the power to see if they really have it and an energy begins to build between them. They go into a sort of trance until Reed disconnects their hands. They explain that if they had gone through with the final push in their energy build, they would have brought down the entire building and kill everyone in it.

Lorna suffers from nightmares that cause her to use her powers while she's sleeping out of fear for Marco and their unborn child.

Esme implores the Underground to orchestrate a plan to rescue her family and other mutants that have been captured by Sentinel Services. Lorna and Sonya are in charge of the first part of the plan, which involves them flirting with knocking out one of the guards working at Trask Industries. Later, Andy, Lauren, Blink, and Sonya break in to knock out the electrical substation that sends all the power throughout the Sentinel Services facility. Thunderbird, Eclipse, Polaris and Esme will then get into the building and destroy all the records and evidence as well as free the prisoners.

Campbell has been hospitalized due to Otto's burst of his powers. Jace uses this opportunity to overexert his authority in order to get more manpower guarding the facility, as he suspects that the Underground will try to attack. Jace becomes even more suspicious when he finds out that the key-card of a guard that had called in sick was used to access the facility. He then orders another team to the facility.

When the Underground infiltrates the facility, they Blink, Sonya, Andy and Lauren run into more of the Sentinel soldiers and an upgraded spider robot that is immune to Andy's powers. They are forced to retreat, under Reed and Caitlin's orders as the couple watch from a surveillance van outside. Blink and Sonya are captured and Andy and Lauren consider using their Fenris ability to break through the building and get away but Andy stops them, believing that their power is too destructive. Andy and Lauren are quickly surrounded by Jace and other soldiers and surrender, while Caitlin and Reed watch distraught from the van.

The Gifted airs on Mondays on FOX at 9/8c.

The Gifted S01E08 "threat of eXtinction" Recap

In a flashback, Andreas and Andrea von Strucker are caught by authorities. They join hands and unleash a blast that kills those attempting to apprehend them.

In present day, Reed informs his family that Sentinel Services have been working with a defense contractor called Trusk Industries, a company that Reed's father worked at. Reed had told his children that his father had disappeared many years ago but in actuality, he has been living just a few hours away. Caitlin knew about all this and states that Reed's father was unkind to him growing up. Reed shares how he got sick as a child and his father didn't even come to visit him in the hospital.

Marcos and Lorna fight over his collaboration with Carmen. Lorna believes that Marcos still enjoys his old ways instead of being truly committed to her.

Reed tells John they need to go to Chattanooga to follow the lead of his father formerly working at Trusk Industries. John says they need to make a run to rescue some Mutant refugees first but they will go to visit Otto Strucker afterwards.

Sonya tries to mend fences with Clarice but she is uninterested in being friends again.

As John and Marcos begin to load up the mutant refugees, Clarice spots a young girl with blue markings on her face and coaches her to come out from her hiding place. A telepath warns John that she's been getting some weird thoughts from a nearby mutant woman and when John approaches her, he spots a tattoo on her wrist indicating that Sentinel Services has had her in captivity. She goes on the attack and only when Clarice, Marcos and John work together with their abilities are they able to render her unconscious and capture her. They bring her back to Underground but first discard a tracking beacon she had in her bag. The Underground must determine what to do with her, while Reed and John head out to visit Otto Strucker.

Caitlin and the Strucker kids help tend to an injured mutant child that was injured during the attack from the mutant sent by Sentinel Services. Caitlin then moves on to the new telepath, Esme. Caitlin asks about her ability and to demonstrate it. Esme determines that Caitlin is concerned about the war between mutants and humans and that Reed will end up on an opposing side to the children.

The Underground leaders try to question the captured mutant who's being kept in a holding cell. Sonya's abilities won't work on her. Lorna wants to torture the information out of her. Marcos stops Lorna from doing so and the two fight once again about his collaboration with Carmen.

Reed arrives with John at the antiques shop Otto Strucker has been running since he retired. Otto initially feigns ignorance about what Trask industries has been up to but appears shaken when he learns that Trask has been reopened and what they've been doing. Reed goes upstairs with Otto and shares a photo of his children and when asked, what their abilities are. Otto is horrified upon hearing this and shares about how Andreas von Strucker was his father and a mutant terrorist alongside his sister Andrea. He ran away from them to get away from their attempts to get him to join their terrorist activities. Otto admits that he himself is a mutant and Andreas and Andrea had the same abilities as Reed's children but when join forces they are a dangerous threat. Otto hid his mutant abilities from everyone, including Reed's mother. He had been working to develop a serum that would suppress the mutant gene and failed but only developed a version that worked on one mutant - Reed. The serum had to be administered before any abilities manifested and Otto held the guilt of this for all these years. He asks again about whether Lauren and Andy have joined hands while using their abilities and Reed says he doesn't believe so. Otto stresses again that they must be stopped.

Clarice discovers that the little girl, Nora, that she bonded with when bringing in the mutants was one of the only survivors of the attack on Clarice's old foster home. Now Nora is haunted by nightmares from the attack.

The Underground discover old records on the captured Mutant. Her name is Chloe. Lauren and Andy work together to hold her still long enough for Caitlin to knock her out with a sedative. Chloe is restrained and Caitlin continues to treat her though her prognosis doesn't look good as she's exhibiting symptoms like a drug addict in withdrawal. Caitlin decides to summon Esme to use her abilities to read Chloe's thoughts since she is struggling to communicate verbally.

Otto shares how Reed's mother ended their relationship because she knew he had secrets though she never knew exactly what they were. Their conversation is interrupted by John who shares that Sentinel Services has arrived. There is no way for them to escape the building without being spotted and Pulse has been brought to suppress abilities. Otto volunteers to go downstairs and apologises to Reed for everything and tells him to protect Lauren and Andy, as well as to protect the world from them. When Otto meets the Sentinel Services agents, he is greeted by Roderick Campbell who admires Strucker's old research which he went through when the company was re-opened. Otto tells them to leave when Roderick says they're looking for Reed. Roderick orders his agents to search the premises but Otto unleashes some powers despite Pulse's efforts to stop them. Otto is shot but still manages to unleash a blast of glowing energy, similar to what Andreas and Andrea did at the episode's beginning when their hands were joined. Roderick and the rest of Sentinel Services retreats while Reed and John go downstairs to find the ruined antique shop and Otto's dead body. John heads outside and finds a dying Pulse, who apologises in his last moments. John promises to make them pay for what they did to him.

Esme reads Chloe's mind and learns that Sentinel Services killed her husband and captured her daughter. Chloe is in a great deal of pain and is fading fast. Esme is able to get a vision of a lab north of Underground that is part of Trask Industries. Esme says she will be able to find the building. Caitlin promises Chloe that she will find her daughter, right before Chloe succumbs to her ailments.

Clarice reaches out to Sonya about Nora, sharing about how she is to blame for what has happened. She wants Sonya to take away the traumatic memory that is giving her nightmares and Sonya agrees to help.

Reed and John bury the bodies of their loved ones and all of the lead characters appear to be more motivated than ever to forward their cause. Reed returns home and his family comfort him in his loss. The final shot is of Lauren and Andy joining hands.

The Gifted S01E07 "eXtreme measures" Recap

In a flashback, John and Lorna meet with Marcos and try to convince him to join the Underground. He is reluctant to do so but displays an immediate attraction to Lorna. They say they know he helped some mutants cross the border to safety and joining the Underground would simply mean doing so full-time.

In the present, Marcos gets a call from Carmen who is cashing in the favour he owes her. He doesn't tell any of the other Underground members that he is going to see her. Lauren continues to grow close to her fellow mutant, Wes. Caitlin works to teach the young mutants about biology using some plants. Reed finds some information that Wes has been involved in criminal activity before he arrived at the Underground. Caitlin warns him to not go on the attack and maintain his sensibility or he'll risk pushing her away.

John tracks down Clarice and asks her to come back to help the Underground. She is determined to find the meaning behind the road that she kept opening a portal to when she was injured. John convinces her to let him help since he has stronger tracking skills than she does.

Jace has begrudgingly partnered with Roderick Campbell but gets more than he bargained for when Roderick shows that he's willing to induce a stroke, through the ability of a mutant whom he controls, in another agent that was threatening to get in the way of their work.

Reed presents Lauren with the information on Wes' past and she is upset when she confronts him about his actions. He explains that he lost his parents and was homeless on the streets. He only got involved with criminal activity to be able to survive. Wes tries to reason with her but Lauren walks away, still upset.

Clarice and John reach her old foster home and find that everyone that was living there is now dead, having been murdered by Sentinel Services. Clarice blames herself for the death of her foster parents that were only trying to protect some of their foster children from Sentinel Services but John assures her that she's not the one that pulled the trigger. She agrees to go back with him to the Underground, as she feels the fight is now personal.

Lorna brings Sonya with her to follow after Marcos, having determined that he's with Carmen. They don't find him, as he's gone out on a mission with Carmen on which he needs to use his ability to take down the security so Carmen can make a power-play to take down a rival criminal organisation. She confronts him about his lies when he returns to Underground and he admits that he only did so out of owing a favour that led to his breaking her out of prison.

Wes mends fences with Lauren but announces he'll be leaving Underground to join another group. Before he leaves, Lauren passionately kisses him goodbye.

Jace launches a special surveillance program as part of his collaboration with Dr. Campbell.

The Gifted S01E05 "boXed in" Recap

Four years ago Turner is having a picnic in Central Park with his wife and daughter when a nearby mutant rights march begins to escalate in tension and violence. One mutant's powers cause a blast that kills Turner's daughter Grace.

In the present, Turner is issuing orders to try to recapture Reed, Lorna, and the mutants that helped to facilitate the escape.

John tells the mutants about how Pulse was present and helping to disrupt the powers. John senses a Sentinel drone coming their way. Marcos and Lorna agree to team up to try to take the drone down while the others continue to get back to the Underground. Diaz and Lorna team up to use their powers to destroy the drone. John and the Struckers arrive at the Underground where Reed is finally reunited with his children. John learns that after this latest confrontation, Sentinel Services invaded every location even slightly suspected of housing or sympathizing with mutants. When Fade sees Reed, he exposes Reed's recent betrayal to all the other mutants, though John intervenes and keeps him from inflicting any further violence against him. The tension is put aside somewhat when Caitlin insists on tending to an injured Trader.

One mutant asks Sonya to consider working on Reed's memories if they decide he can't be trusted with the location of Underground and she seemingly agrees to consider doing so. Clarice asks her about this, forcing Sonya to reveal that she has the ability to manipulate memories.

Reed offers his services to John and the others in charge at Underground to devise a strategy to fight back against the current manhunt Sentinel is working to find and capture them.

Marcos and Lorna reaffirm their love for each other and agree that despite their concerns with the state of the world for mutants that they are excited to have a baby together and begin this chapter of their lives. They encounter a blockade but Lorna easily stops the bullets, knocks the agents out, and then capture Jace Turner. They bring him to a warehouse and Lorna says this is their chance to figure out what Sentinel did to Pulse and reminds Marcos that Sentinel had intended to change her loyalties too. Though Marcos has his moral qualms with torture, he realises this information is important to the larger fight.

Reed offers himself up as bait in order to steer Sentinel Services away from the true location of Underground. Caitlin objects to him putting himself in danger when they only just got him back but he insists that it's necessary for their safety.

Marcos and Luna call Clarice and Sonya to help extract the information from Jace's memories but they are running out of time since some law enforcement have just pulled up outside.

John has Fade drive Reed to an agreed-upon location for him to be spotted by people and surveillance cameras. Fade is also assigned to pick up Reed and bring him back. The plan works, as law enforcement begin to redirect their agents to go to that location and away from where Underground truly is. Meanwhile, Caitlin successfully saves Trader's life with assistance from her children.

Sonya works on extracting information from Jace's memories while Clarice watches closely with Marcos and Lorna. Lorna had shot some metal rods out of the building which forced the officers to stay back. But once they shot some tear gas into the building, the memory-extractions are interrupted. Sonya doesn't want to leave Jace in the middle of her memory-fog but the mutants are forced to flee as the officers raid the building.

Once everyone is reunited at Underground, Sonya shares the information she has acquired. Together, they determine that there is a secret Sentinel facility at the federal building in Baton Rouge. As Reed and the rest of the Struckers have proved their loyalty and worth to the Underground, the mutants now trust them and have no objections to their decision to stay behind and fight alongside them for the mutant cause instead of fleeing to a safer place as they had originally planned.

Clarice confronts Sonya about whether she messed with her head and Sonya admits to doing so. Clarice is angry about this violation, despite Sonya's insistence that it was necessary. Clarice warns her to stay away and never mess with her head again.

Jace Turner returns home where is revealed to now have memories of Grace surviving the attack, which horrifies his wife who has to tell him that she has been dead for years.
