Walking Dead S05E16 Recap: Conquer

It's been a long season full of heartbreak, and now the finale is upon us. Rumors have been swirling for weeks that we're going to lose yet another beloved cast member. Fan have feared for Daryl, and personally I've feared for Glenn, those little nods to baseball bats have been almost too much. But I'm really worried about Abraham, he bites the big one in the comics too. Who lives, who dies. Lets find out.

Morgan sleeps in a car that's seen better days. It's been awhile since we've seen Morgan. He looks up at a lucky rabbit's foot and smiles. Around a small fire, Morgan makes his meal. A man approaches with a gun. He thinks Morgan's breakfast looks good. Morgan asks what the W on his forehead means. He gives Morgan a little history lesson. He likes Morgan. He doesn't usually get to chat with the new people he meets. He sees new people often, but its usually when his group is overwhelming another, and not on equal ground. The man wants everything that Morgan has, every last drop. Morgan asks for just a little so that he can survive, but the man is taking everything, Morgan included. He tells him that some of the first tribes thought that people turned into wolves. Morgan doesn't want any ugliness. He can have the supplies, but Morgan just wants him to leave him be. He tells Morgan to just be still, Morgan has cat like reflexes and he uses his bo to take out the guy coming at him from behind. Morgan tries to give the pair of guys a chance to leave in peace, but they refuse. Morgan gives them a beat down. A walker approaches, and Morgan raises the gun of the fallen wolf. It's empty. Morgan dispatches the walker with his staff. He places the pair of men in the car he slept in the night before, honks the horn, takes the rabbit's foot and leaves them behind. They really should have taken him up on his offer to leave in peace.

Daryl and Aaron are back out on their mission of recruitment Aaron is content to let Daryl take the lead as he heads into the woods.

Rick wakes up in a dark room. He's amused, but Michonne isn't so much. He's surprised to see that she was there the whole night. She wants to know what was so funny. His surroundings remind him of the Terminus train car. Deanna asked for him to be placed in the cell like room. Rosita patched him up, Carl came and checked on him before she sent him away. Michonne asks him what he's doing. Pete's been moved, he could have told her what was happening. Rick could have admitted he was thinking with the wrong head, instead he tells her that he couldn't reveal he had a gun, she wanted this place too badly. She points out that they were out there too long, they were changed too much. They're there now, Michonne reminds him he just said he wasn't. Carol asks where he got the gun as she, Glenn, and Abraham arrive. Giving him a cover story that he took it, just in case. Someone is covering their ass big time, considering that she practically goaded Rick into going after Pete and claiming Jessie. There is a meeting planned. Abraham wonders if its to kick Rick out. Glenn tells them that Maggie is trying to find out information, he's unsure the purpose of the meeting. Carol coaches him, that Rick is going to tell them that he took the gun just in case, that he went to talk to the man he knew was abusing Jessie and that man ended up attacking him, that he's to sell the people whatever story they want to hear. It's what she's been doing since she got there. Michonne is shocked. Carol tells them that the people of Alexandria are children, and children like stories. What happens when the nice words are done? They prepare for the worse. If things go badly Rick will give the signal, and then they will spread out, and take key hostages. Michonne thinks that words will be enough. Rick hopes that its enough, but if it isn't they say that they will slit the throats of Deanna, Reg and Spencer. Glenn doesn't like the sound of that reminding him too much of Terminus. Rick hopes it to be an empty threat. Glenn wonders if Rick wanted this. He didn't, but outcome is the same. He excuses himself to get some sleep.

Maggie watches Father Gabriel go about his life as if he didn't have a care in the world as she waits for Deanna. Reg comes to retrieve her. Deanna doesn't seem all too open to her. Maggie's come to talk about the meeting tonight. Deanna wants to talk to everyone about what happened. Maggie is blunt, if it includes sending Rick away, it won't work. Deanna wants clarity. She let Rick in, all of them. She made that decision, and now she wants to let a group of very frightened peopled without the full story to make a decision. It's not leadership. Reg claims that it is a forum. Rick wasn't in his right mind because of the things he's seen, lost, that their whole group has. Deanna is upset that Rick took a gun and pointed it at people, that it was a miracle that he didn't pull the trigger. Reg points out that Michonne stopped him. Deanna tells her that she is going to do what she has to do. Maggie leaves frustrated and Reg heads after her. He tells her that the cavemen who didn't evolve died, and the rest evolved into what they are. Civilization starts when you stop running and live together, when you stop sending people out to die. That's what he's going to tell the people at the forum.

Sasha gathers up bodies of the dead, and dumps them into a grave. She struggles with one on a cart, it's arm coming off and she slides into the hole. She looks at the bodies, and lies atop them.

Daryl and Aaron follow some tracks in the woods. The footsteps are fresh, please let them be Morgan's. Aaron tells him about the people he brought back, that didn't work out. Two men and a woman, he thought that they would be fine. He drove them out, gave them a days worth of food, water and left them. Daryl is surprised to see that they just went. They had their guns, all of their guns. Aaron can't let that same mistake happen again.

Carol wakes Rick. She tells him that what happened last night was good, that it'll make everyone think they have Rick covered now. She gives him another gun, and Rick can't but wonder why she didn't want it revealed to the others they had more guns. Carol points out that Michonne knocked him out. Rick knows he deserved it, but that Michonne is with them. Carol isn't taking any chances.Carol points out that he said that he didn't want to take this place, or leave. He doesn't get both.

Daryl and Aaron watch the single person from a distance, its definitely not Morgan. All they know about him is that he knows how to keep mosquitoes off him. daryl and Aaron go in for a closer look.

Rick emerges from his recovery room. He does the whole man nod thing to a trio outside. He passes Deanna's without a word.

Nicholas spies on Glenn. Maggie gives Glenn the bad news. The forum is what they feared it would be. She wants to go talk to people, to solve this. Glenn is silent on the issue. He doesn't reveal to her the master plan. She has faith it'll be worked out. She heads off, and Glenn spies someone climbing over the wall.

Father Gabriel heads outside for a walk, unprotected.

Rick returns home, to find a relieved Carl. He's sorry for what happened. Carl understands, and he's heard about the meeting. Rick wants Carl to stay home, and this is their home. Carl is glad to hear that because the people of Alexandria need them. He urges Rick to tell them that. Rick isn't sure that the people want to hear that, that they'll be able to. But they need to.

The man give Aaron and Daryl the slip. Sometimes people give you the slip, and sometimes you have to turn back without them. Daryl wants to keep looking, but Aaron points out that they have a lot of good people back home, and the opportunity before them is too good to be true. Daryl gets the attention of the walkers inside the fence. Together he and Aaron kill them all and then head into the cannery. Inside Aaron finds an Alaska license plate. The guy was in a red poncho, they can probably find him again, but if they can come home with a trailer full of cans, consider it a win. Daryl agrees, and goes to open up one of the trailer. It sets off a trap, opening all of the trailers, full of walkers with W on their foreheads. Daryl and Aaron are surrounded, but they're not letting that stop them. They run one way, but there are too many. They head under a trailer, regrouping, looking for a clearing. Daryl heads out first, swinging a chain and taking out a trio of walkers. Aaron is on his heels with a machete. They make their way through the crowd, and into a car. They're safe inside for the moment, but utterly surrounded. Daryl suggests that they figure out a way to black out the windows so that they can't see inside, they'll lose interest and then they can get away. Aaron finds a note telling them to get out, bad people are coming. Well that's less than comforting.

Pete sits in a dark room, probably sleeping off a hangover. Carol is at his door with a casserole, and Pete isn't really happy to see her. She needs him to check on Tara. Pete remains bitter, telling her to get out. She pulls a knife on him. She could kill him, and no one would suspect it was because she didn't like him. They would believe that he tried to hurt her though. She dares him to come after her, but he refuses. Once this is played out he'll have his chance. He's here, and his wife is away from him. He's small and weak, and because of the way that the world is, he's weaker. If he plays his cards right he doesn't have to die. She tells him that she wants her dish back, clean before leaving. Pete drops the dish and its contents before going into the living room the thrash it.

Glenn continues to trail Nicholas, as he runs through the woods. He sees the remains of a zombie. Someone has been playing with the dead again. Glenn is shot, he goes down. Nicholas rushes forward to finish him off, but the body is not where he expects it to be.

Rick heads over to Jessie's. She tells him that he should go. Rick wanted to come and check on her. he asks about her black eye. Pete did it when she was trying to help him up. She thinks that people shouldn't see them talking at the moment. Rick isn't sorry that he and Pete fought, no matter the outcome, or what he has to do. He turns to leave, and Jessie has a confession for him. She asks him not to turn back around. He was right. Rick walks away, but Pete watches from his window.

Daryl and Aaron haven't found a way out, and Daryl laughs. He felt all closed up back at Alexandria, but now he feels more like him. He was a tracker. He hated it. Aaron admits that when he was watching the group, and Daryl went off on his own, but when that storm hit, he lead the group to the barn, to safety. He knew then that he had to bring them back. They should have went after that guy in the poncho. He shouldn't have given up, Daryl didn't. Daryl pulls out a smoke. He'll go, lead them out. Tells Aaron to make a break for the fence. Aaron doesn't like that idea. This was his fault. Daryl isn't assigning blame, he just wants to finish his smoke. Aaron thinks instead that they shouldn't run, they should fight their way out, together. Whether they make it or not, they do it together. Oh please, don't let Aaron die. I've taken a shine to the guy. Daryl agrees. He begins to count it out, when a walker is bashed in the head outside his window. The pair head out of the car, prepared for the worst, and its Morgan, bashing walkers with his bo. Daryl and Aaron get out and beat their way through walkers. All three of them make it to the safety of the gates outside, closing the walkers inside. Aaron is thankful for his help, introducing them. Morgan tells him that all life is precious, which is why he helped. Aaron warns that there is a very bad group coming back who rigged the trap, but they have a safe place. Morgan thanks him, but he's on his way someplace, but he's lost. He asks if they can show him where he is on the map he has. Its the same map Abraham gave Rick. Daryl sees the message.

Gabriel whistles in the woods when he comes across a feeding walker. Rather than turning back, or trying to hide, he heads straight for the thing. Arms spread wide open he calls out to the thing. He's ready. The walker heads away from its meal towards Father Gabriel. Gabriel lets the think get close, and then he has a change of heart, grabbing the noose around its head and popping its head off. Smashes the thing's head before going to take care of his meal. He cries, falling to his knees in misery.

Abraham brings some flowers to Tara. Seeing Eugene, Abraham thinks to leave, but Rosita tells him that he's asleep. Abraham walks softly to avoid waking Eugene so that he can sit with Tara. Rosita knocks a pan off the table, making horrendous noise and waking Eugene. Eugene admits that Tara saved his life, and shook his beliefs with her observations, but he doesn't want to talk about that right now. Eugene admits that Abraham got them there. he just lied ad gave him a heroic reason to spur him into action. He finally apologizes for his deception. Abraham is sorry too. Eugene tells him that it is unnecessary. Abraham nearly killed him.

Father Gabriel returns. Spencer asks if he can makes some confessions to him later. he needs to talk to someone, but doesn't really have anyone. Father Gabriel agrees.

Nicholas runs through the woods looking for Glenn. He finds a walker instead. He hesitates to take aim at it, but as it draws closer, he finally does. Glenn uses that chance to run at Nicholas. The two scuffle in the woods, Nicholas taking advantage of the gunshot wounds he inflicted on Glenn. Walkers approach, and Nicholas abandons Glenn to them. That cannot be the end of Glenn! That would be such a waste.

Michonne goes to see Rick, asking if he's ready. Rick has a confession first. Carol, Daryl and himself worked out a plan to get the guns. Carol still has one. They lied because he wasn't sure how she would take it, what she would do. He offers her the gun he has. She asks if he thought she would try to stop him. He admits that she did hit him over the head. She did that for him, not the people of Alexandria. He was afraid she would talk him out of it. She could have. She tells him that they don't need the guns here, she doesn't need her sword. She thinks he could find a way, they can. If they don't then she's still with him. She knows something is going to happen, but asks that he doesn't make something happen. He offers her the gun again, but she pushes it down, telling him not to be too long.

Rick tries to get his head sorted, remembering a conversation with Bob about the nightmare world they live in, and how Bob reminded him that nightmares end. Rick looks out his window, something gets his attention, and he runs for it. He gets to the wall, finds one of the gates open. Something shoved into the lock, and there's blood. Rick pulls the item from the lock, and locks the gates up tight. Rick runs along the perimeter.

Gabriel returns to his church. Sasha is waiting for him. She came there, because she doesn't know what to do. She asks him to help her, but he refuses.

Night falls, and the forum has gathered. No one is speaking, Deanna wants to start, but Maggie asks if they can wait. Glenn and Rick aren't there. Deanna is going to start and talk about Rick and his actions. Michonne knows that Rick is coming. Even Carol is sure of that , and the fact that they can work it out.

Under the cover of night, Rick continues to run around on alert.

Father Gabriel asks her why she wouldn't want to die. She doesn't deserve to be there. The dead don't have a choice, they don't get to decide to take action. Bob died, he was mutilated because of her actions. He was a part of the madness, he didn't deserve to be there, she doesn't. Sasha loses it, and finally moves to shut Gabriel up.

Rick finds walkers inside Alexandria.

Michonne tells the people about being out there, and now not being out there can drive a person crazy. Rick wants his family to live, himself, and the people here to live. He is what they will turn into if they're lucky.

Rick goes up against the walkers on his own.

Gabriel tries to fight off Sasha.

Nicholas peers around some trees. Glenn knocks him out. He's not out of the game yet folks!

Carol tells how Rick saved her life repeatedly. There are terrifying people out there, and he rescued her. People like her, like all of them, need people like her. She knows that what happened last night was scary, and that he's sorry for it, but she suggests that they listen to what he's saying.

A walker gets Rick down on the ground, and Rick struggles to break the thing's neck with his bare hands.

Glenn beats the downed Nicholas.

Abraham lays down some knowledge that these soft hearted people need to understand. Rick has seen a lot, more than they don't realize, and there are worse people out there

The red poncho man sits outside of the factory. He was a set up, as he tells the walkers to calm down so he can reset the trap. He's killed by two of his companions, well that's one heck of a welcome home.

Maggie tells her own story of her father, and Rick. Rick is a man with a good heart. They were together before this place, and Rick made them a family. They can't stop that, they don't want to. They'll want to be apart of that family. Deanna decides to stop them all, in the spirit of transparency. She confesses that father Gabriel came to see her recently, said that their new arrivals can't be trusted, that they're dangerous, and that they will put themselves before the community. Then not one day later, Rick demonstrated that. She had hoped Gabriel would be there. Jessie points out that she's giving them hearsay. Maggie tells them that they didn't take Gabriel, and Deanna that Rick isn't there either. Maggie excuses herself.

Glenn punches Nicholas again. Noah died because of him, Glenn tried to enlighten him, to help save him and he tried to kill him as thanks. He points a gun to Nicholas's head.

Sasha does the same to father Gabriel.

The walkers are lured back into their trailer traps.

One of the men, Cody admits that he just wants to keep his family safe, but he's unsure if he knows what that means anymore. He's interrupted before he can vote to banish Rick. Rick appears, with a dead walker on his shoulder, dropping the body before the fire. The people are shocked to say the least.

Nicholas cries. he was scared. He doesn't belong he tells Glenn. Glenn just wants his silence, but he doesn't pull the trigger.

Father Gabriel asks for death. Maggie comes in, and pulls her back from the brink, and she lets her. Gabriel tells her that she should have let her, they died, they all died because of him. Maggie holds his hand, but doesn't take his guilt. they did she admits, as she pulls him to his feet.

Rick tells them that there was no guard on the gate. Spencer had asked Father Gabriel to close it. She sends him to check on him. Rick didn't bring the walker in, it got inside on its own, they always will. The dead and the living will come because they're there. The ones out there they'll hunt them, they'll find them, they'll try to use them, and try to kill them. Maggie and Sasha sit and pray with Gabriel. Glenn helps Nicholas home. Tara wakes up as Rosita reads to her. The zombies load up into the trailer. The guys luring the zombies look over Aaron's pictures. Rick promises to kill any one who threatens them. they'll survive and he'll show them how. He was thinking how many does he have to kill to save them. he doesn't have to do that though, because they're going to change. He's not sorry for saying what he did,he's only sorry that he didn't say it sooner. They have to get ready, luck runs out. Pete loses it. Rick isn't one of them. Everyone tries to calms Pete down, but he comes forward. Reg gets in the way, and gets his throat cut as Pete screams, thrown to the ground. Reg dies in Deanna's arms as she cries. Pete tries to blame his actions on Rick. Deanna turns to to Rick, telling him to kill Pete. She should have listened to him sooner. As Rick pulls the trigger, he sees Morgan, Aaron and Daryl.

Walking Dead S05E15 Recap: Try

The walkers have been freshly fed.

It's dark in Deanna's house, candles light the room. She plays her son's awful run mix. The loud beats fill the quiet room as she morns his loss.

Carol makes a casserole and tries to write a note, but can't quite find the words as she watches Judith on the video monitor. Sam peeks in her windows.

Sasha watches from her post. She can't quite concentrate though.

A walker shambles close.

Spencer turns off the noise. There's a knock at the door.

The walker continues its pace.

Carol left the casserole, with a note saying that they're sorry for their loss on Deanna's doorstep. Deanna takes the note, leaves the casserole. She burns the note in front of her husband and son.

The walker makes it to the walls of Alexandria. Sasha finally takes the shot from her tower.

Outside, Daryl uses an arrow and takes out another. Aaron points out that there are more walkers around than there use to be, but no more people. Daryl knows someone lurks out there.

Nicholas goes on camera. Someone fast forwards through the footage, to the part where Nicholas confesses that Aiden was trying to save them from a roamer. He was shooting at it, then Glenn distracted it. Glenn tells that he shot the grenades, trying to stop it. Nicholas claims that he wasn't going to leave Aiden, or Tara. Glenn says that they made Nicholas stay, that they couldn't get Aiden out of there without his help. Nicholas starts to break down as he talks about what happened in the lobby with the walker, saying that they were hitting the glass, pushing his door open. Glenn knows all he had to do was hold it closed, but Nicholas panicked. Nicholas thinks that they were trying to kill him, that they didn't care. Glenn held Noah's hand, he tried as he watched him die he tells Rick. Nicholas lays the blame solely on the others, saying it was there fault, it was them. Deanna points out that he came back with them though. Deanna watches Nicholas's video. She tells him that he's no longer allowed outside of the walls, Glenn either, until she's finished with her investigation. Nicholas thinks that Rick's group needs to go, they're not like them. Deanna isn't giving Nicholas that choice, she sees a whole lot. Glenn confesses to Rick that he nearly left Nicholas out there after what he did to Noah, to him. Rick remains mum, then Glenn wonders if he thinks that he should have left him there. Rick tells him that the Alexandrians don't know what they're doing out there, they're not prepared. Glenn points out that they have to be there. Rick tells him that they don't answer to them. They are them now Glenn tries to explain. Noah believed in this place. They have to make it work. Rick leaves Glenn on the porch.

Jessie sits with her family on the porch while Carol watches. She tells Rick that she sent a casserole to Deanna's family and she's talked to Sam some more. Jessie put a bolt on the inside of his closet. Sometimes she tells him to lock himself inside, and not come out until morning. One night, Sam could hear his dad yelling, his mom crying. His mom got quiet during it, and he went out and found his mother unconscious and bleeding, his father sitting out on the porch. Rick asks why she's telling him this. He knows why, she's pushing him to kill Pete. She knows how he feels about Jessie. Carol points out that if walkers hadn't gotten Ed, she wouldn't be standing there now. Rick tells her that she would as they watch Jessie go inside.

Rick sits in the dark with his gun. Pete stumble out all smiley, calling to Rick. Rick turns around all über serious, which makes Pete a little concerned. He ominously tells Pete to keep walking, which confuses him, but he does it. There's an ugly showdown brewing, and even if Rick wins it, he'll lost it too.

6:30am. Michonne lies awake in her bed. Laundry sits in her basket, and she looks at it like its an alien creature. She pulls out her new uniform, but hesitates to put it on. Rosita comes in. Tara is stable, she'll go check on her again later, but what concerns her is that Sasha didn't come home. She spent the night in the tower. The girls head out to the woods. Rosita saw her headed out with a rifle, even though there was someone already in the tower. The pair are jumpy. It's the first time they've been out since they arrived, it feels different, but Michonne isn't sure that its a good thing. Rosita admits after Eugene she was screwed up because she lost something, but Michonne seems screwed up because she found something. Noah is dead, and Michonne can't sleep in there. She doesn't want to forget. Rosita tells her that she shouldn't, but that she also didn't bring her sword, and that's not nothing either.

Rick visits Deanna at the graveyard. He's sorry for what happened. He asks how she's holding up. Rick tells her that they have a problem with Pete. She knows, she hoped he would get better. Pete is a surgeon, he's saved lives, he may be saving Tara's life. Rick points out that he's beating his wife, and he needs to be stopped. Deanna isn't sure how. Rick wants to tell him to stop, that that will be how it is. Deanna asks what happens when he doesn't listen. She pushes him for an answer. Rick tells her that he'll kill him, they'll kill him. Deanna doesn't think that's civilized, but in the world they live in, that is civilized. They give him the option to stop, if he doesn't, they make him. They can't just let him keep hitting her, or kill her. Deanna thinks that they should just exile him if it comes to that point. Rick points out the danger in that. If they let him go, he could come back, and be a bigger problem, one that they would have to hope that the watchtower took care of. Deanna doesn't want to hear that suggestion again. She would do the same to Rick if he were the problem.

Michonne and Rosita find a walker, shot in the back of the head. It had to be Sasha. They find another, and the destroyed framed photos.

Carl walks in the woods, and Eden calls out. She knows that he's following her again, and points out that he is going the wrong way. She tells him that he should go back, he scares her. It's not safe out there, two people just died. She steps out from her hiding spot, people always die. He asks what she does there anyways, the same thing as him she tells him before she takes off running. Carl runs with her. Eden stops him suddenly when she spots a walker. She throws a kitchen timer at him. It goes to the noise of the timer going off, and Carl and Eden head the other way.

Nicholas cleans the blood out of the van when Glenn approaches. He tells him that the four people that he lost are on him, Noah's death is his fault too. That's five lives he has to carry. People like Nicholas should be dead, but the walls saved him, so he's not. Glenn tells him that he's not to leave the walls, alone or by himself. Nicholas takes affront to that. Glenn knows the type of person he is. Nicholas claims that he's been protecting Alexandria, provide for it, and Glenn just got there. Glenn isn't threatening him, just saving him.

Carl and Eden take a seat, slightly winded. Eden feels like they're suppose to be out there, to feel like this. She doesn't want to forget it, and running makes her feel better. Carl can't forget. He dreams of being in the woods with the walkers. Eden does too. He asks her if her guardian knows that she does this. He's a good guy, he doesn't and she doesn't think he would understand. Eden carves with a knife on a nearby root, it was her mother. He asks what happened to her before she got to Alexandria. She's not ready to open up yet. She tells him that it doesn't matter, but it does. A whole herd gets near, and the pair hide in a tree trunk. As they hide, Eden realizes that Carl is afraid of her too. One of the herd is marked with a W too.

Nicholas heads out into the woods. He digs up his hidden gun.

Sasha is out on foot in the woods. She walks up from behind the walkers, and shoots them all in the head. She picks off a straggler. Michonne and Rosita catch up to Sasha, to see what she's doing. Sasha is tired of playing defense, she wants to go on the offense and takeout walkers. They walk into a large group and Rosita thinks that they should run, but Sasha isn't running anywhere. She opens up fire. Michonne watches her, remembering all her zombie kills, everything back to when she was the badass with her pets. Michonne fires off a few shots, helping out. Sasha doesn't want her help, but its not for Sasha. Michonne is doing this for herself. Rosita uses her blade on a few that stumble close, she goes hand to hand with them. Sasha runs out of ammunition, but there are still more walkers coming. She pulls out her blade, and gets to killing that way. One walker sneaks up on her, taking her down. Michonne is there, blowing its head off. Sasha is upset, she had it. She didn't need their help. She told them to go. She tells Michonne that she can't help her, she needs to work her way through her grief on her own. Noah, she told him that they would make it. The grief washes over Sasha, and she's taking the latest death the hardest. Sasha heads back out, and Rosita is on her tail.

Daryl and Aaron tread softly in the woods. They come across a body ripped apart. It looks a recent thing as well, with the limbs all over the place. Daryl surges forward, Aaron is close behind. They find another body, a woman tired to a tree, her abdomen ripped out, definitely not the work of walkers. Daryl grabs the woman's head, she's marked too. She begins to reanimate before him, and he stabs her, putting her to rest.

Rick finds Jessie in the garage working on her owl. She didn't want her son to know about all this. She tells Rick that Tara is in good hands with Tara. Rick tells her that Pete is hitting her, that he's hurting her, and it has to stop. Jessie tells him that he will. Rick isn't sure how. Jessie confesses that there are things in the past. Rick doesn't care about those things. Pete did this before, and he stopped. She helped him to stop then and she'll do it again. She thinks that she can fix it. Rick tells her that she can't, but he can. Jessie thinks that putting Pete in jail will only make things worse. The only way things get worse is if he kills her, and Rick won't let Pete. Jessie doesn't understand why this is so important to Rick. He has a good home for his kids now. She tells him that she's married, and they have to take care of themselves.

Rick reluctantly leaves, he sees the quiet, the peacefullness of it all. Rick is about to go all Shane, as he watches a kid run with a red balloon. Rick strides back to Jessie's walking through the front door without so much as knocking. He tells her that Sam asked for a gun to protect her. Jessie tells him that he shouldn't be there. He points out that it may look the same out there, but she doesn't just get to live with it. She doesn't have to fight alone. He doesn't want her to die. He can help her, he can keep her and her children safe, all she has to do is say yes. She asks if he would do this for someone else. He doesn't answer, so she asks again. Rick admits that he wouldn't. Jessie gives him the answer that he wants. Pete comes stumbling in, asking Rick what he's doing there. Jessie moves to diffuse the situation, as he tells Rick to leave. Jessie tells Pete that he's the one that needs to leave, to go. Pete wants to know what she's been saying to Rick, to be doing. Rick tells Pete that they need to leave. Pete gets in his face, mocking his status, thinking that he's the law. Pete throws the first punch, and the pair tussle. Pete doesn't appreciate Rick putting his nose into his business, and Rick is really trying not to kill the guy. Jessie yells for them to stop, but neither men pay her any attention, and the fight ends with them flying through the front window.

Sasha watches walkers from her perch. She loos through the site, and sees people running. It's not walkers who are the problem inside the walls. Inside Alexandria, Rick and Pete's fight has hit the streets, sending everyone running towards it. Pete is on top for the moment, before Rick gets the upperhand. Carl tries to stop it, but Rick pushes him aside. Deanna calls for Rick to stop as he puts Pete in a choke hold. Rick pulls his gun on the group as they move to get in. What is Deanna going to do, exile him? He asks. They still don't get it. They do what they have to to live. Sasha takes aim out the walkers on the walls, taking them out one by one. Deanna just sits and plans and hesitates, pretending to know, but she doesn't. If she wants that place to stay standing she has to change her way of thinking. Things don't get better by wishing them. They have to control who lives there. Deanna tells him that that has never been more clear than it is now. Rick goes back on his rant. He's not the problem, and he's not going to stand for it. If you don't fight you die. Her way of thinking is going to get this haven destroyed. A uniform clad Michonne knocks him out. Rick may have been right, but his rant all blood covered probably wasn't the smartest.

There's just one episode left in the season, and Rick looks to be on his way to exile. The only question is will the wolves attack before that happens, and will Rick be able to save Alexandria from destruction?

Walking Dead S05E13 Recap: Forget

Sasha lies awake staring at the pictures on the wall. She can't sleep in the house she now calls homes. Bright and early the next morning she gets to work. One girl takes her into the gun storage. She asks if Sasha bags a boar if she could have a leg to make some prosciutto. Sasha leaves the front gate, going deep into the woods with the photos that she stared at all night. She takes aim, destroying them, shooting out their faces, only pausing to look around the surrounding area between shoots. She needs to get it together.

Daryl, Carol and Rick look around where the missing blender gun should be. They could have been followed on the way in, someone could have taken it. Rick doesn't think that they want the people inside the gates to suspect them. It could have been someone passing though. Rick thinks that the gated group has been all too lucky so far, and now they're even luckier, they have them. Rick wants to keep the incident quiet. He wants the others to try to adjust, for now, they'll keep this between them. A walker comes to crash their pow wow. Carol takes far too many shots to bring it down. They are suppose to be out shooting, so they can't return with full clips she reasons. On the walker's head is a W carved in it.

Michonne tries on her new uniform. She takes a good look at herself in the mirror, and makes some adjustments with her katana, which makes her almost question it. Rick still isn't sure about it all. Neither is Michonne. She's unsure of Deanna, but she seems smart. Rick still isn't buying it all.

In the woods, Daryl raises his bow, hearing someone in the woods. He calls him out. It's Aaron. Aaron is surprised he can tell the difference between people and walkers by the sound of their footsteps. He asks if he can tell a good person from a bad one, Rick doesn't seem to be able to. Daryl wants to know why he's being followed. Aaron wasn't aware that he was following Daryl. He's out hunting. Daryl is still jobless, but he allows Aaron to tagalong with him on his own hunt.

Deanna goes over things with Michonne and Maggie. They're to handle conflicts. Deanna is looking to have the police force restarted. She has big plans for their civilization, and they're the beginnings of it. Rick agrees with the rest, but he wants to see the security. Deanna takes them around. They're not to just look for walkers, but also for signs of entry. Deanna doesn't think that is necessary, or needed. Sasha arrives and she wants to take a shift at the clock tower. Deanna admits that the clock tower is hardly ever manned, its no more than a dummy most of the time, and sometimes its Spencer. The group is horrified. They still remember their other paradise lost at the hands of the Governor. Deanna finally gives into the urging for the tower to be manned on a more full time basis, but Sasha and the others have to attend a welcome party Deanna wishes to throw.

Carol chats with the other homemaker types, as one talks about a delicious protein bar they make. Carol plays up the helpless role, but as soon as she sees Rick, she makes excuses to run off with him. She asks if he's heard about the party, he has. The armoury is next to Deanna's so tonight will be a good chance to get their guns back, but they can't use Daryl, he's on constant surveillance. Carol points out that the good thing about this place is that she's invisible again.

Daryl and Aaron continue through the woods when Daryl spies a horse. Aaron admits that he's been trying to catch the horse for a long time, trying to being him in. The horse is named Buttons, one of the kids saw him awhile back and named him. Aaron hasn't seen him for a while and feared it was too late. The horse won't let him or Eric get close to him, he's always spooked. Daryl takes the rope from Aaron. He understands how it is. Sometimes you stay outside for so long, you forget what you were before. Daryl approaches Buttons, and the horse notices him, but doesn't run off until the walkers make their appearance. Aaron shoots a few, and Daryl beats some back. It's knives and arrows up close, but Buttons is gone. Daryl and Aaron run off after the horse.

Carol heads off to the pantry for supplies. She's making cookies, and needs chocolate. Olivia actually has the chocolate, but she can't give her much. Carol will make it work. Some men come in for supplies. Olivia goes to help Toby and his men and Carol grabs what he needs in the way of guns. Toby asks Carol if guns bother her. She admits that she had a handgun, but nothing more. Toby offers to give her some lessons some time to make her comfortable. Carol unlocks the window behind her while no one is looking and thanks Toby for his kindness as he leaves.

Aaron tries to get to know Daryl a little more. Daryl never really got around by horse, preferring bikes, not the 10 speed kind. Aaron understands that Daryl feels like an outsider, he understands that feeling. He and Eric have been with the group a long time, and they're still outsiders. The more afraid people get, the more stupid. They're scared of both of them for different reasons. They're only less scared of Aaron because they know him. He suggests that Daryl go to Deanna's party, to let people get to know him. Daryl feels like he has nothing to prove. There are a lot of bad people on the outside, a lot of bad stuff, but he fears none of it.

Carol, Rick, Carl and Judith arrive at Deanna's party. She greets them immediately. She never interviewed Judith, but she envys her, she'll get to see what the place will become. Deanna goes to take them around. Abraham and Rosita arrive, and Abraham is apprehensive about the place until Rosita poits out that they have beer. He agrees to try. Deanna introduces Rick to her husband. He's watched all of the tapes, and he's impressed. Everyone in the group had a lot of glowing things to say about Rick. Rick points out that he built the wall, but he thinks that Rick's accomplishments are superior. He offers Rick a drink. Jessie and her family arrives, and Rick notices her immediately.

Daryl and Aaron continue to track Buttons. Daryl races ahead to take out one walker, and Aaron gets tripped up by another. Aaron uses his machete on it, but Daryl is there, smashing its head under his boot, and throwing down another, smashing it too. Aaron takes aim at a walker closing in on them. The pair race forward, but they're too late. They spot Buttons, but he's surrounded by walkers and already in their clutches. They down him, and tear the poor horse apart. Daryl and Aaron surge forward to kill the rest. They dispatch the group of walkers with ease, and Daryl leaves the putting down of Buttons to Aaron. It's like they lost a member of their group. Until now, Buttons always ran. Daryl offers that they were trying to help him.

Noah sits in the corner watching the party, but not taking part. Glenn and Maggie go to check on him. Parties aren't his thing. Glenn and Maggie try to make him feel more a part, telling him that he's there with them now, with family. Daryl watches from outside the window, but doesn't enter. Aaron sees him on the street. He was never going to go to the party because of Eric's ankle. He just suggested that Daryl try, and he did. He offers Daryl to join them for some spaghetti.

Carol checks in with Rick, before disappearing. Jessie introduces Rick to her husband. He offers to give him a check-up, and get him a drink. Jessie points out the great view, the ordinary setting, and full of people. It may not be better on the outside, but its better inside. A lot of things disappeared, but so did a lot of the bullshit. The people in the room come from a diverse background and yet they're all eachother's life now. They all lost something, but they got something back. Rick looks around, sees Carl with boys his own age. She's right. Jessie's younger son, Sam complains about the lack of cookies. Good thing Rick knows the cookie maker. He tells him that he may be able to get her to bake him a batch. He notices Rick is missing a stamp and offers him one. Rick accepts the stamp. Jessie tells him that he's officially one of them now. Sam runs off, and Jessie after him.

Sasha finally makes her appearance at the party, and is greeted by Spencer. He offers to take her around the party, but she decides to make it in on her own.

Daryl slurps down the spaghetti, gulping it down. Eric turns to Daryl, asking him that if he sees a pasta maker on his travels if he wouldn't mind grabbing it to quiet Ms. Needlemeyer. They have plenty of boxed pasta, but that's all she talks about. There's an awkward silence. Aaron seems to have something for Daryl, but has yet to tell him. Aaron takes Daryl to the garage. He admits that when he was given the house, the garage already had bike parts in it. Someone was building a bike. On his travels, when he saw engine pieces he brought them back, and now has a large collection. He wasn't sure what he would need. He always thought that he would learn what he was doing, but he figures that Daryl already knows what to do with them, and he'll need a bike. Aaron told Deanna not to give him a job, because he already had one in mind for him. He wants Daryl to be Alexandria's other recruiter. He no longer wants Eric going out. Daryl doesn't like the sound of Aaron risking his life. Aaron points out that he's good out there. He knows what he's doing. Daryl doesn't belong out there. He has a hard time letting people in, to get to know him, and he needs to be out there sometimes. Aaron understands because he feels the same way. Daryl looks under the sheets. The main reason that he wants Daryl to help him recruit is because he does know the difference between a good person and a bad one. Daryl has nothing else to do. He thanks Aaron, and offers to get him some rabbits.

Abraham finds Michonne on the porch with her little plate of appetizers. He teases her about her new miniature hardware. He hopes that they don't have to use their weapons again, or that they'll remember how to if they do, either way its always on their backs. Michonne wonders how many beers he's had. He's a large man, he's had many, and he's figured out that things have turned out pretty well. He asks her what she's done to adjust. She tells him that she's put on a dress, and he tells her to try again.

Carol is working on her cat burglar skills. She heads after some hand guns, loading them into a bag when Sam asks her what she's doing. He followed her, hoping that she was making more cookies. She offers to make him a batch of cookies just for him. He would like that. She tells him that he would have to keep her sneaking in there a secret. He tells him mother everything though. Carol warns him that if he doesn't keep the secret, then one day he will awaken on the outside of the walls. He will be tied up and the walkers will come after him and rip him apart. No one will be around to help him. Or he will stay quiet and safe, and get lots of cookies.

Rick is taking in the view as Jessie comes in with Judith. She's happy to have the baby in her arms, its been awhile since there was a baby. Rick gets what she's been telling him. She offers him back the baby, and he leans in and kisses her on the cheek. She walks always with a smile on her lips.

Deanna goes to the wallflower, Sasha and tries to get her to join the chatter in the party. Sasha tries. She joins the group, but the horrors of her past are too much. A woman offers to cook Sasha her favorite meal. She's asked all the newcomers. She's worried about cooking something that she doesn't like, and Sasha loses it. Sasha has bigger issues on her mind, life, death and loss issues.

Deanna catches up to Sasha the next day. She's still trying to figure her out. Sasha doesn't think the community, the safety is real. Deanna thinks that opinion is bullshit. She closes the gate as Sasha leaves.

Carol brings out the stash that she's retrieved. Daryl isn't sure that they need them. They asked him to try, and he's trying. He refuses the gun. Rick reluctantly takes one.

Michonne hands up her katana.

Rick, Carol and Daryl return to Alexandria and head their separate ways. Jessie greets Rick on her walk with her husband, and Rick lets is glance linger on her. He definitely sees something he wants. The sun looks a little brighter, and with weapon in hand, or at least in back, Rick seems more self-assured. He hears a walker, but its on the outside, and Rick is now on the inside safely out of reach.

Walking Dead S05E12 Recap: Remember

Aaron has brought them to what could be paradise, or hell. Woodbury and Terminus offered the same safe hope, but turned to utter nightmares. As the group walks up to the gate, they're jumpy and on edge. Daryl even shoots a possum as the gate opens, claiming he's brought dinner. It must be a shock for both parties. The people of this safe zone have no clue what they just let walk into their doors. The gate ominously closes behind them. They're asked to turn over their weapons, if they wish to stay they must release their guns. Rick points out that if they wanted to use them, they would have already done so. Aaron tells Rick that he should speak with Deanna first, before he heads to his interview Sasha takes out a walker sniper style. Good thing they're there.

Rick paces the clean office looking like a caged animal, as a motherly Deanna Monroe introduces herself. She wishes to film their interview. The place is all too clean, unapocalyptic. Rick and his group have been out there since the beginning he tells her, and they didn't know eachother before. Deanna tells him that she was a congress person before hand, and asks what he was. He doesn't want to open up. Deanna discusses the area they're in. It was a self-contained community built and sold before the apocalypse. They were stopped on their way back to Ohio, before they were stopped. They stayed because of the ready supplies, and her husband and sons helped construct the wall that surrounds them. They've been behind the walls since the apocalypse started. Rick and his group is the first they've considered bringing in. Rick tells her that she should have nevered opened her gates. People do what they need to to survive. Deanna wonders if he is telling her that she shouldn't welcome his group in. Aaron doesn't know Rick well, doesn't know what he's had to do to survive. He's killed countless people, all to ensure that his family would survive. Deanna likes the sound of being in his family. She's done bad things too, killed people via exile. She wants to keep this place safe, give the people on this side of the wall the ability to raise their children in peace. She reads people well, always has, and she likes Rick. Rick has every reason to be skeptical, but if he's in charge, now is the time to decide. Rick confesses that he was a sheriff, and Deanna can see that.

The group disarms. Their guns are still theirs, they will just need to be stored while they're inside. Rick is shown two house. Both of the houses are his. Aaron gives him his opinion on the houses. He too knows that the group is still unsure, and Deanna has asked that they be given space to settle in. Aaron tells Rick if he needs anything he's just a few houses down.

Rick and Carl enter one of the houses slowly, looking over everything. They have running water, and Rick takes advantage of it, taking a long hot shower. In front of the mirror, the wild man scruff we've all come to know and love is cut away, and shaved away and utter gone. I was not expecting the loss of that beard so soon. It's like losing a beloved character! A fresh faced Rick emerges from the bathroom at a knock on the door. Jessie brings by a basket full of goodies, and offers to give him a haircut. Rick points out that she doesn't even know him, but she smiles, she can take care of herself.

Jessie takes a pair of scissors to Rick's mane, and he's the smooth sexy Rick of season 1. He's not completely okay with the turn of events. Water, shaving, hair cuts. It's all too normal.

Daryl is in Deanna's office for his own interview. He's pacing worse than Rick did in the office as Deanna asks if he wants to be there. The boy and the baby deserve a roof he figures.

On the porch of the house Daryl skins his possum. He's not exactly house trained anymore it seems, and still has not showered. Carl wants to look over the other house, and Rick tells him to be quick about it.

Carol accompanies him. They look over the clean interior, still unbelieving that the group is giving away mansions. Carol is ready to get back, but Carl lingers.

Outside, Rick and Daryl canvas the area between the two houses. They look clean, they're next to each other, but Rick still wants the group to stay together for the night.

A noise draws Carl upstairs. Knife drawn he heads up but finds nothing more than baseball cards and comics.

That night, hunkered down in the living room of one of the houses, everyone keeps watch. Michonne is gleeful about being able to brush her teeth again. She notices Rick's bald face. She's never seen him clean shaven, and its different, good different. She has a good feeling about the place, and Rick hopes that she's right. Deanna knocks at the door. She's surprised about what was underneath all that hair. She's surprised to see everyone in the same house, in the same room. She never said that they couldn't stay together Rick points out. She's still surprised by how close this group of strangers became, how they're really a close family. Everyone in the group except Rick, Michonne, Sasha and Daryl have been assigned jobs. She has a job in mind for Rick and Michonne, she just hasn't told them yet. She's circling one for Sasha, but Daryl remains a conundrum, but she'll figure it out soon. She leaves the group to get some sleep.

Sleep evades Rick, and he heads to the kitchen to arm himself with a knife.

Michonne sits down for her interview. If the place is what Deanna claims, then its exactly what she and the others have been looking for. She thinks that they're ready for this. Deanna wonders if all of them are, but Michonne is sure.

Deanna told the group to explore their surroundings, and Rick tells Daryl they should, but Daryl isn't ready to. He's holed up on the porch. Laurie and Rick use to drive around neighborhoods like this one before, and think one day they would live in one, and now they are. Rick trails Carl and Judith, but they slip out of sight, and he panics. He crashes into a sculpture, knocking it over and Jessie is there. She thinks that she knows where they went. She takes Rick to an elderly couple, who use to have many children and grandchildren before the apocalypse. The group hasn't seen a baby in awhile, so Judith is going to be a star attraction. Jessie asks if Carl can come over and meet her son, Ron.

Ron takes Carl around telling him about the place. There's school at different times depending on age. He introduces Carl to Mikey and Enid. She too was on the outside, and came recently. They used what's now Carl's house to hang out in. He hands over the comic. It's Enid's. She snatches it with little eye contact. The kids play video games, read comics, and sometimes play pool at Mikey's. All sounds a little too normal. Carl doesn't know what to say. Ron offers to just hang out. It took Enid a long time to adjust too. Carl dives right in, wanting to play video games.

In Carl's interview, Judith sits on his lap. He confesses that this is the sort of place that his mother would have liked. Deanna is sorry for his loss. Carl experienced more than just her loss, he confesses that he killed her, he had to.

Ricks asks Carl how his meeting with Ron went. He likes the place, and the people, but he's worried that they're going to get weak too, he doesn't want them to get weak.

At night, Rick watches as everyone else sleeps. Michonne awakens. She still doesn't have a job. Rick asks if she wants one, and she does. He wants one so that his family can stay too, but if they want to stay, and be apart of this community so bad, why are they both awake. Rick goes out for a walk.

On his walk, Rick runs into Jessie's husband, awake and sitting on the porch. Although he says “Welcome to Alexandria” his tone is plenty ominous. Rick returns home, but he still can't sleep.

Carol's interview is a big fat lie, lie LIE! She speaks about how she was nothing more than a homemaker, which she was back when we saw her in season 1. She claims that she misses her husband Ed, you know the demeaning abusive piece of crap that died in Season 1 when Carol was the meek den mother she's claiming to be. Deanna asks her if she has a job in mind, and Carol asks if they have something like junior league.

Daryl tends to his weapon when Carol steps out in her cardigan, seriously, a freaking cardigan. She's off to make casseroles. Yes, our bad ass Carol, who survived out on her own is off to make Casseroles for the elderly. She asks Daryl if he's showered yet, and you can almost see the stink on him, so no, he has not showered yet. She tells him to do everyone a favor, and take a shower, or she'll hose him down in his sleep.

Glenn's interview is up next. He's determined to make things work. He's worried that the group was almost out there too long.

Rick heads outside of the gates.

Carl sits in his room. He notices Enid walking towards the gate. She's trying to not be noticed, but he watches her as she heads to fence, and goes up and over it.

In town, Glenn, Tara and Noah are greeted by Aiden, and Nicolas, who they met when they first entered on gate duty. Aiden is Deanna's son, and in charge of supply runs. Glenn has some experience in that work. Alexandria has a very stocked pantry, and he's taking the trio out for a dry run. Nicolas gives each of them a single handgun and they set out. Glenn doesn't look very enthusiastic about his weaponry.

Carl trail Enid into the woods. The girl takes off, and Carl loses her trail.

Rick walks about a bit, and comes across a walker. He raises his gun to it, but it poses no threat, so he leaves it. He heads back to the place where he stashed the gun in the blender, but its gone, and Rick is not pleased at all. The walker has brought a few friends. Rick takes off his man purse, and pulls out his knife. Carl finds Rick right before he goes all Rick-a-nator. The pair take out the walkers with ease. One sneak walker grabs Rick's pant cuff, but Carl is there to pick off the walker closing in. Rick picks up a bar to take out the sneak walker, but Carl wants the last kill, and Rick lets him have it.

Aiden goes over their supply run protocol. Multiple groups set out, if any get in trouble they use their flares, and the other groups close in to assist. Tara, Noah and Glenn have been recruited to the group because they lost four recently, but they have one of the walkers responsible. They head to where the walker should be strung up, but he's gone of course. Nicholas whistles, trying to call the thing back, and one comes. Aiden and Nicholas try to work to tie the thing back up, because that's obviously logical, but the thing is all rotting flesh, and they can't get it back in its ropes. Tara steps in to try to help, and gets a handful of dead skin. Glenn and Tara both stab it in the skull, taking it down, and Aiden throws a tantrum because they killed his favorite toy. Glenn is upset because their antics almost got Tara killed, but Aiden pointed out that he told them to stay back. They return to camp. Aiden thinks that they need new gigs, they're obviously not ready for runs. Glenn is sure they have that backwards. Aiden points out that they have a way of doing things. He wants his orders obeyed no questions asked. If they do that, then they're as screwed as his last team. The people in town gather near listening in. Aiden dares Glenn to say it again as he gives him a shove. Noah and Tara try to diffuse the situation with the douchebag, but he shoves Glenn again. Glenn tells him that no one is impressed, and tells him to back away. Deanna comes to see what the issue is. Aiden doesn't understand why she let them in. Glenn points out that unlike him, they actually know what they're doing on the outside. Aiden throws a punch at Glenn, which he ducks, and Aiden a good one. Nicholas jumps into the fray, but Daryl takes him down before he can. Rick grabs Daryl, and Michonne tells Aiden to stand down unless he wants to be on his butt again. Deanna makes an announcement for all to hear, as Enid sneaks through the open front gate. Rick and his people are a part of the group now, and they are equals. She makes sure all of them understand, including her bone headed son. She tells everyone to turn in their weapons, and tells her son and his stupid friend to head to her office. She had a job for Rick, she wants him to be her constable. That's what he was, what he is. She wants Michonne as the law as well. Rick accepts, but Daryl isn't so happy. He takes his bow and goes off. Deanna thanks Glenn for knocking her son on his ass.

A grizzle Rick tells the interview camera that she should keep her gates closed. Because its all about survival at any cost. People out there are always looking for an angle, looking to play on your weakness. People measure others by what they can take, what they can use to live.

Sheriff Rick is back, and uniformed. He heads through his house, with everyone gathered in the living room, out to the porch. He asks Daryl if they're good. Daryl asks if he's a cop again. Cardigan Carol joins them as Rick admits that he's trying things on for size. He thinks that they can settle into their houses. Carol is worried that if they start to settle in they'll get soft. It's the same thing that Carl was worried about. Rick refuses to get weak. It's not in them anymore. They'll make it work. If the people of Alexandria can't make it, then they'll take the place. That perks Daryl right up.
