At this one-of-a-kind panel Sci Fi enthusiasts and film geeks alike will have the opportunity to learn what it takes to get a film into production and how the support of a crowd-funding site like Kick Starter can help surge interest and funds. On Friday July 13 from 8:30-9:30pm the producers of Space Command will present their star-studded panel Space Command: Bold Adventures In The Far Reaches Of Space. The panel will feature Science Fiction Legends Marc Scott Zicree (The Twilight Zone Companion Star Trek: The Next Generation), Doug Drexler (Battlestar Galactica), Neil Johnson (Humanity's End), Michael Reaves (Star Wars, Batman-The Animated Series), and Ian McCaig (The Avengers, Star Wars) where they will premiere original footage from the highly anticipated epic adventure series that spans 200 years of Galactic History. Film stars Doug Jones (Pan's Labyrinth), Katherine McEwan (Humanity's End) Christina Moses (Star Trek New Voyages) and Amber Benson (Buffy) will be on hand to discuss their roles in the film. Special guest Cindy Au, from Kickstarter will also appear on the panel. The visionary team will offer fans a sneak peek at the original Character design, along with producer David Raiklen’s extended version of the existing VFX trailer. The film and its score are inspired by heroic science fiction of the 50s. The film is currently in pre-production where its Award Winning production team is currently crafting original space costumes and space ships. Production will take place in October 2012 and the film will be released in a multi-platform manner: DVD, Bluray, digital download with DVD and Video on Demand.

The credibility of the project itself is resulting in a great deal of support from the Hollywood Community. Leaders in the Sci-Fi genre including Damon Lindelof (Prometheus, Lost) Neil Gaiman (Sandman, American Gods, Dr. Who, Coraline), Glen Mazzara (Waking Dead) , David Brin (leading author), Jane Espenson (Game of Thrones) and Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) have shown their support and have boosted the project into the mainstream media.

Is Prometheus worth the wait?  Does it live up the hype?  This weekend hundreds of thousands of people will crowd theaters for Ridley Scott’s long awaited return to sci-fi with Prometheus.  For over a year fans have been trying to figure out if Prometheus is a prequel to Scott’s 1979 Alien…or not.  So is it, or isn’t it?  The film contains “strands of Alien’s DNA,” hints director Ridley Scott.  Which after seeing the movie, I find it’s the perfect description.
Prometheus is a prequel of sorts.  You don’t need to see Alien to enjoy this masterpiece, but for those fans of Alien, I think watching it again before Prometheus is an added bonus.

Greek legend tells us Prometheus was a God who stole fire from Zeus and gave it to man.  For punishment, he was bound to a rock for eternity.  Everyday an eagle would peck out his liver, and every day it would grow back, just to be pecked at again.  There’s a cycle, just as all things have a cycle.  Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron) states, “A king has his reign and then he dies.”  Again, it’s a cycle.  So, is the cycle of the Human race at an end?

Two scientists, Dr. Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and Dr. Charles Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green), find ancient drawings and carvings across Earth from different millennia and civilizations showing the same message or map.  The scientists take this as an invitation to find the origins of mankind.  A group of biologists, geologists, and others assembled by Weyland industries, which we now know from viral ad campaigns is the creator of the androids seen in all the movies in the Alien franchise, set out to find the “Engineers” of our race and end up finding much much more.

The crew finds large dome shaped caverns complete with a maze like network below.  Chilling events are set in motion after David, the android, played masterfully by Michael Fassbender, starts touching stuff.

David has an almost childlike quality.  He has no fear, no emotions, but has facial expressions are full of wonder and amazement. His mischievous actions could be taken as the inquisitiveness of a child, or programed orders.  Of course, we know the answer, but Scott likes to play with our minds.  Nevertheless, David accelerates things.

Meredith Vickers (Theron) is the company watchdog that actually seems to have a different agenda than the company; something new to the Alien franchise.  She doesn’t believe in sacrificing human life to fulfill someone else’s quest for knowledge.

I don’t think Prometheus lands on LV-426, the planet in Alien.  We do see in the many trailers that there is a ship, a chair, and an alien (affectionately named by fans the “Space Jockey”) that seem identical to the ones found by Dallas and his crew in Alien.  But Prometheus takes place roughly 30 years prior to the events in Alien and the planet just looks completely different to me.

But just like the magic of Alien, we don’t see much at first, but when we do…pooh man.  Scott lets us see ripples and dripping and melting and shadows, but saves the big stuff for later.  He smoothly progresses from tiny to small to large to big.  As David says, “Big things have small beginnings.”  By allowing the story to evolve this way, Scott keeps the main focus on the characters and how they handle evolving situations.  Even the questions constantly evolve, with most being answered with more questions.  It is really a philosophical and psychological thriller.

Scott also gathered a stellar cast (excuse the pun…I couldn’t help myself).  I mainly noticed the chameleon type actors he chose.  Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, and Michael Fassbender have all had recent films released where their characters are completely different from Prometheus’.  I didn’t watch Dr. Shaw and think she’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  It’s the same for Meredith Vickers and David; the actors morph themselves into different people.

Prometheus is beautifully written by Damon Lindelof & Jon Spaihts.  It delves into the quagmire of religious beliefs vs. scientific evidence, and the questions that linger.  Pay close attention to the opening scene, it’s brilliant.  In fact, Lindelof, Spaihts, and Scott ask the question, if was populated by an alien race, where does God fit in if anywhere?  Most questions are not answered.  They leave that up to us.

One such question could be about the beacon in Alien, thought to be an SOS, and the cave drawings in Prometheus, thought to be an invitation to find a civilization.  Some characters later believe they were warnings to stay away, but what if they were an invitation and an SOS to lure us in?  This is a type of the delicious questions you will have leaving the theater.

On Saturday, March 17th at 4 p.m. PST/ 7 p.m. EST, legendary director Ridley Scott premiered the first full trailer for one of 2012's most anticipated films, PROMETHEUS, at the AMC Downtown Disney in Anaheim, CA. This invite-only premiere followed a 30 minutes Q&A session with the iconic director conducted by Prometheus writer/producer Damon Lindelof (Co-creator, Executive Producer and Writer of TV's LOST). You can watch the Q&A on Livestream.

During the Q&A, an audience member asked if there would be a scene like in Alien where the cast didn't know that something was going to pop out of John Hurt's chest. Scott grinned and simply responded, "Oh yeah." Scott also made a point that he doesn't like "Old school" as a term for not using CGI. He commented that CGI is much more expensive than "Sensible school" and "Practical sets," commenting that it takes the actors out of the set, "Actors are in a green or blue vacuumm and everyone is guessing." He also said that there is always a repair bill at the end that is expensive. He feels Prometheus, "... came out rather economical on a seriously good looking film."

There was some discussion on the evolution and scientific tone of the film. Lindelof posed the question "Will there be any scientific discovery in my lifetime that may change my beliefs of God? We don't have the answer to it, but the movie is certainly asking that question."

June 8th can not come soon enough. I lost count how many times I've watched this new trailer, it's that good. All hail the return of Scott to sci-fi. I better start saving up, cause I have a feeling I will see Prometheous multiple times and will discover something new with each viewing.

Sir Ridley and co-screenwriter Damon Lindelof will screen some exclusive footage.

You'll also meet this country's 16th president and first superhero -- Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which explores the secret life of our greatest leader, and the untold story that shaped our nation. The filmmakers will screen special footage, which presents the visionary work of producer Tim Burton and director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted), who bring a fresh and visceral voice to the classic portrayal of the bloodthirsty vampire, while imagining Lincoln as history's greatest hunter of the undead. Ballroom, Third Level 

As awesome as that announcement is, where the heck is Alan Tudyk. Yeah, yeah, I know he's not the actual star of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but he's fantastic on panels. As of right now none of the stars of either movies are set to be there, but there is still time so that could change.

For months, rumors have been flying. Scenes from Prometheus look eerily similar to Alien. The Director, Ridley Scott, has been elusive along with the crew and cast. Is it a sequel or a prequel? Does it have anything to do with Alien or just familiar movie sets from the same mind?

Finally, a Viral marketing campaign reveals a connection between Prometheus and Alien. The TED 2023 Blog reports:

Peter Weyland has been a magnet for controversy since he announced his intent to build the first convincingly humanoid robotic system by the end of the decade.
