Star-Crossed S1E13 (show finale) - "Passion Lends Them Power" Recap

Being held a foe, he may not have access
To breathe such vows as lovers use to swear,
And she as much in love, her means much less
To meet her new beloved anywhere;
But passion lends them power, time means, to meet,
Temp'ring extremities with extreme sweet.
Romeo and Juliet, Act 2, Prologue, lines 9-14

Emery is trying to figure out how to save Roman, who tells her Castor stabbed him with a poisoned blade. She tells him she will go get some Cyper, and doesn't care about the risk. She only wants to save him.

Drake is giving Taylor some food and when she bends a metal fork, she tells him that all the womyn in his tribe get stronger during pregnancy. He gives her an herb to help with her symptoms and offers to have the baby raised in his Pod. Taylor is also worried about telling her parents.

Taylor gets a phone call from Gloria and Drake delivers the bad news to the others that Grayson and the float never made it back to the school. They let Julia and Eric know about the bomb but Taylor is still out of the loop about the Suvek. Taylor is simply concerned about getting in trouble about losing the float. Eric lets the group know, after calling Grayson, that he was car-jacked. Drake knows that Trags must have attacked him and the Suvek is now MIA.

Teri tells Vega that Roman is dead after Castor stabbed him and Vega tells her that Roman was against their cause and they do not mourn their enemy. Emery gets back into the Sector by telling a guard she left her camera in there. She runs into Teri and tells her about Roman needing the Cyper. She tells him that Cyper won't save him without Atrian blood and insists on coming with her.

Eric and Julia visit Grayson in the hospital and he can't remember who attacked him. They decide against calling Victoria to tell her about the bomb.

Teri and Emery make it back to Roman and Teri uses her blood and the Cyper, telling Emery that they've now done everything they can. All they can do now is wait.

Taylor is meeting with Victoria and when she spots the Atrian in herb, she confronts Taylor about her pregnancy. She warns her she of the dangers of her situation and Taylor admits that she doesn't even know for certain as to whether she will keep it.

Roman begins to wake up and Teri tells Emery to go get him some water. Roman is shocked to see Teri there and she tells him about how Emery came to get the Cyper and begins crying, saying she didn't think she'd ever see him again. Roman tells her this who she really is: a healer. Emery comes back and tells Emery that Roman needs to be back by sundown or there will be even more trouble for all of them.

The float has been found but law enforcement don't find anything on board. The Suvek has already been taken and the police don't take Grayson seriously because of his history. Lucas is able to find trace amounts of a chemical that mean they may be able to track the Suvek. It's up to the gang to find it and save everyone from destruction.

Roman tells Emery that his path always leads him back to her and they consummate their relationship in the shed where they first met.

One of the police officers that had blown off Grayson and the rest of the gang is revealed to be in cahoots with Zoe.

Emery checks her mobile phone and hears Grayson's voicemails about the Suvek at the Mardi Gras parade. Roman assures her that they will not let their loved ones be harmed.

Zoe calls Vega and tells her about Drake, Sophia, and the others being there. Vega orders her and the other Trags to take them out, even if it means slaughtering their own people.

Victoria brings Taylor to a housing complex under construction that is designed to be a community for mixed-race couples for Atrians and humans. As of right now, it's being kept under wraps but it is intended to be revealed once it is finished. She tells Taylor that she deserves to know what her options are so she can make a well-informed decision.

Roman and Emery arrive at the parade and find themselves separated. Roman thinks he spots his father in the crowd and follows after him. It's revealed to be an Atrian named Chester, who is the guard to the gateway to Eljida. Chester tells Roman that Saroya has sent a message about the Suvek and they need to be stopped. The Iksen key being removed from the Suvek may be able to stop it from going off. Roman is doubting his ability to be a leader to his people and seems to want a more simple life with Emery, free from those leadership responsibilities. Chester then introduces Roman to Victoria's son, his half-brother.

Teri asks Vega to spare her friends' lives but Vega is unmoved.

Emery is tracked down by some Trags and try to hurt her but Grayson comes over and offers himself up, providing enough of a distraction for Emery to hit them so they can both get away. They move into the parade near some police officers. Grayson tells Emery that when they were together, she always came first and that she still does.

Roman is still stunned at the revelation of his having a half-brother. Roman tells his little brother that he will see him again and leaves Chester and his brother so they can head back to Eljida. Victoria drops Taylor off at the parade and Taylor thanks her for giving her hope for the first time since finding out she was pregnant. Victoria briefly spots the back of her son in the crowd but is called away.

Lucas tells Sophia he has just picked up a signal and Drake heads over to Taylor, who then reveals that Zoe is back and she has told her about their pregnancy. Taylor heads off to grab some food and Zoe tells Drake that if she doesn't stop the gang from stopping the Suvek, she will kill Taylor and her unborn child. Drake catches up to the group and tells them about the threat against Talyor's life. Taylor is on the roof with Zoe and the other Trags and Zoe reveals the Suvek as well as her being a Trag. Zoe coldly says that the hardest thing about playing human was pretending they were friends and says she is going to fix the abomination growing inside Taylor. Taylor shouts, hits Zoe, and runs off. Zoe sends some Trags after her and then puts the Iksen key into the Suvek, beginning its activation.

Taylor arrives where the rest of the gang is and fills them in on everything they already know. They begin forming a plan but then a Trag arrives, whom Drake quickly takes down. Gloria and law enforcement surround Vega and her other Trags. Vega wants the Trags to go down fighting but Gloria tells them it's better for them to surrender and live. Teri raises her hands in surrender and the others follow suit.

Roman dresses himself in the Trag's outfit and mask and is pretending to hold Emery hostage.

Gloria demands to know where the Suvek is but Vega merely says that she will pay along with the rat that called her. Teri then reveals that she was the one who called and Vega ominously says that her father will not be pleased about this. Teri is confused, having always been told that her father never left Atria. Vega says that she will wish that had been the case, as will everyone.

Lucas grabs a flame-thrower and set fire to a food stand. He and Sophia then begin telling everyone to clear off.

Roman moves Emery away from the elevator and Zoe says she doesn't have any use for Emery, ordering Roman (still disguised as a Trag) to get away. Drake and Grayson jump down, having been hiding in the elevator. They grab some weapons and begin shooting at Zoe and the other Trags while Roman and Emery begin trying to disarm the Suvek. Roman is able to find the Iksen key but then a Trag grabs Emery from behind. Roman tries to help Emery but Grayson jumps in and says he's got this, holding a gun to the Trag who has Emery. Zoe sneaks up and shoots Grayson from behind, Emery gets free from the Trag, Grayson stabs Zoe, and Roman is able to get the Iksen key out of the machine. Zoe then snidely comments that Trags always have a back-up plan and reveals a remote detonator which she uses to set off the Suvek. A blast shoots out and all the humans within the radius are knocked out and Taylor's car flips over and she is trapped inside with a nearby fire closing in.

Emery pleads with Emery to wake up while Drake tries to get Grayson to wake up. Roman looks at the machine and tells Drake that it's not a bomb but a signal instead. They wonder who it is signalling to and we then see an Atrian ship out in space, with a commander (Teri's father perhaps?) ordering the others to signal their warships and head for the planet.

This is the final episode of Star-Crossed.

Star-Crossed S1E12 - "This Trick May Chance to Scathe You" Recap

Go to, go to!
You are a saucy boy. Is't so, indeed?
This trick may chance to scathe you. I know what.
Romeo and Juliet, Act 1, Scene 5, Lines 84-86

Roman and Drake spy on the Trags and discover that the Suvek was not destroyed in the explosion as they had originally thought. They lose track of where it has been moved to so there's no proof they can bring to the Hwatab. Drake decides that they should go to Grayson for help, seeing no other option. Drake and Roman come in to speak with him while Emery is also present. Roman still resents Emery for joining the Red Hawks. They want to steal the Suvek and bring it to Gloria, saying they can't go to the SEU for help because there are spies inside that organisation. Everyone is suspicious of one another but they strike up an alliance, bringing Lukas and Sophia in with them.

Emery comes up with a plan to smuggle the Suvek out on a Human/Atrian unity float that will be in the Mardi Gras parade. Roman pulls Emery aside and expresses his displeasure at the fact that their relationship ending was supposed to keep her out of harm's way and now Grayson is pulling her back into it. She tells him that if they all fight together for unity between their races then he needs to trust Grayson. She still hopes they can be together once more of this has blown over.

Teri is still looking after Castor and he tells her he wants to neutralise the Trags and overthrow the Hwatab. He offers her a pretty bracelet and this poor affection-deprived girl accepts it and seemingly also his offer to join him in his quest to rule the world. Teri presents him with a note from one of his followers that lets him know that Roman will be named the next Iksen and fully support the integration program. They flirt and it's all very creepy. I'm not entirely sure how Atrian ageing works but she is attending high school.

Roman and that whole group head into the Sector with the float. Roman wants to follow the Trags with Emery accompanying him so they can learn where the Suvek is but Grayson insists on going instead. Drake says he will go speak with his mother to try to get more information.

Roman and Grayson follow Sargas, one of the top Trags, after spotting him in the marketplace. Roman also spots Teri and is surprised to see her as she hadn't been seen for the last few days. Roman and Grayson continue to argue while following Sargas to a warehouse where they believe the Suvek has been moved to.

Teri returns to Castor and he throws a tiny tantrum over how Roman can't be the next Iksen since he lacks the vision Castor believes he himself has. He tells Teri he now trusts her and wants to make a move that night. She tells him about the Suvek and he is pleased, saying it is information he can use.

Drake meets with his mother and though she initially agrees to help, she ends up putting him in a chokehold, causing him to pass out. She then ties him to a chair. She doesn't appear to have aligned with the Trags; it appears that in her mind, she is simply trying to keep her baby boy safe.

Sophia informs security that there is a bomb and says she knows where it can be found. It's meant to serve as a distraction. Roman and Grayson head to a rooftop but when Roman spots Teri again, he goes after her. He quickly figures out what she has been up to because of the cuff and the herbs she has been stock piling. She runs off when his back is turned.

Vega gets word that security are on their way and has the Trags move the Suvek and hide it in a dumpster. Grayson calls Emery to let her know it has been moved and she tells the others to prepare the decoy dumpster to make the switch.

Drake wakes up to his mother tending to him. He tells her he needs to get to his friends but she refuses, saying he needs to stay safe. She tells him Vega had her install safeguards and that if the Suvek is taken out of the Sector, it will release an electric pulse that will kill anyone within 30 feet. Roman doesn't want to carry on without Drake but Grayson wants to keep going since he feels this is their only chance. Roman and Grayson continue to argue and it attracts the attention of other Atrians. Roman exchanges knowing looks with Emery when she shows up with Sophia, Lukas, and that dumpster. He then punches Grayson to create a distraction and allow them to get away.

Saroya tells Drake that she knows of a tunnel that they can use to escape the Sector and get to Eljida but Drake tells her that if anything happens to his friends because he wasn't there to help them, she will lose him because he will never forgive her for it. He reminds her that she was the one who taught him that they always go back for their own. She cuts him free from his bonds and says she will remotely disable the security trigger in the Suvek and send him a signal when she's done.

Castor shows Teri phones he plans to plant in the Hwatab pods that have messages about plans to attack humans. Once they are framed for working with Trags, he will call it in to Gloria and they will be thrown in the Crate. Teri points out that the Hwatab pods are the most secure in the Sector but he then shows her the Iksen Key, which is capable of opening any Atrian lock. She speaks out against her mother and how hard she has tried to earn her approval. She then asks Castor if she can be the one to plant the phones and he agrees, giving her the Iksen Key. She asks about Roman on her way out and whether he will be sent to the crate too. Castor merely says that he has other plans for him.

Drake shows up just as the teens are about to drive out of the Sector and tells them about the safeguard and his mother's intent to disable it. They find themselves surrounded by Trags and Drake says his mother needs more time. While Drake begins punching them out, Roman and Grayson join the fight. But then Sargas holds a gun to Emery's head. Saroya successfully disables the security measure, after knocking out a Trag, and sends up a flare. While Sargas is distracted, Emery maces him and then the teens get on board the float, driving out with all the lights on and music playing. The parade is a success.

Grayson tells Roman and Emery that he will bring the Suvek to Gloria. Emery offers to go with him but he turns her down. She compliments the fact that he successfully worked with Roman and perhaps they could be friends, but he politely says that will never happen. Roman and Emery share another romantic moment together and she tells him they're one step closer to being together.

Teri uses the Iksen key to open her own pod, where she meets Vega and gives her the key. Vega commends her for her work with Castor, saying she has more than surpassed her expectations. The nice moment is interrupted by Sargas, who informs her of the Suvek being stolen. Vega is furious, as the key is no good if they don't even have the weapon which it will arm.

Roman heads to a roof and is promptly stabbed by Castor, who twists the blade for good measure. Before Castor can stab him again, Roman rolls off the roof and crawls away. Castor can't pursue him since there is a guard nearby. He then runs into Teri who sees the bloody knife. He tells her he got away but the blade is poisoned so Roman won't have too long. Teri distracts him long enough to use his poisoned knife to stab him and leaves him to die.

Saroya and Drake use that secret tunnel of hers and Saroya is ready for them to go to Eljida. Drake says he can't go with her and tells her about Taylor and her pregnancy. Saroya wants to stay and help him but Drake tells her she has to go because she will be trapped if she doesn't escape now. Drake says he can come and go since he knows about the tunnel now and will come find her someday. She is emotional but agrees, and they say their goodbyes.

Grayson stops and gets out of the truck with the float on it and is knocked out by Zoe. She takes a moment to celebrate before driving off with the float and more importantly, the Suvek.

Emery heads home and finds a blood trail that leads to the shed in which she first met Roman. She finds him bleeding and sick, and he tells her he needed somewhere safe.

Star-Crossed airs on Mondays on the CW at 8PM.

Star-Crossed S1E11 - "Give Me a Torch" Recap

Give me thy torch, boy. Hence, and stand aloof.
Yet put it out, for I would not be seen.
Romeo and Juliet, Act 5, Scene 3, Lines 1-2

Emery runs into Roman in the school hallway and enquires after his well-being. He reminds her that she was the one to break up with him. Julia tells Emery that she should focus on the upcoming school dance. Julia doesn't have a date but then Eric comes over, bluntly asks to go with him, and kisses her before walking off.

Teri tells Roman she wasn't trying to hurt him but he tells her that she needs to tell him what the Trags are building if she really wants to earn his trust back. Drake tells Roman that his mother refused to work with the Trags and they discuss the fact that they need to stay united if they are to win against Castor.

Sophia finds Taylor crying in her car after spotting Drake in the hallway. She gives her a flower to ask her to the dance but then she notices that Taylor's tears are glowing blue. Sophia heads to Emery to tell her what she has just witnessed and explains that glowing tears are a sign of an Atrian pregnancy.

Roman speaks before the leaders regarding Castor's betrayal but Castor feigns ignorance. Saroya is nowhere to be seen and he and Drake need her to back up their story. Castor has taken the flight recorder so there's no proof. The council remains skeptical, saying they want to trust Roman but he had deceived them with his relationship with Emery. The council declares that the accusations are serious enough that they will be making enquiries.

Grayson tells the new Red Hawks that their only focus is the Trags and to sit tight until his Atrian source provides information. Vartan comes to visit, telling Grayson he wants in but Grayson doesn't want him involved since he thinks he is too dangerous. Vartan wants to go after Emery, whom he calls a "race traitor," but Grayson warns him to stay away from her.

Drake sneaks into the Trag base and is caught by his mother. He is angry at her for lying to him about agreeing to build the Suvek. Emery visits Taylor to tell her about her tears glowing and that this means she is pregnant. Drake tells Roman about his mother building the Suvek and that it's not finished yet. Roman is reverse-pick-pocketed and he checks his bag right after and finds a bomb inside. He takes off running, throws it into a dumpster and warns people to take cover as it goes off.

Emery warns Taylor to keep quiet about her pregnancy as she may be in danger from the Red Hawks. Sophia comes over and begins telling her about Atrian pregnancies, including an increased thirst for water, and perhaps consuming less salt as Atrians do not react well with it.

Teri examines the nearly-completed Suvek and Vega tasks her with finding an Iksen key which will be used to control the Suvek. She says Castor is hiding it somewhere and she must find it.

Lukas offers to take Emery to the dance as friends. Emery asks Eric if she has seen Grayson but Eric says he hasn't been speaking to him and has started up with the Red Hawks again. He also tells her to not get him involved as he doesn't want anything to do with the organisation. Emery spots Drake and Roman come in and asks Drake about Roman's injuries but Drake stays quiet about them.

Teri sneaks into Castor's place but is caught by him and his lackies. He tries to manipulate her insecurities regarding her relationship with her mother and offers her an opportunity to work with him. He lets her go and tells her to think about it.

Roman and Drake realise that Castor must have a stash of bombs hidden somewhere, which they could use to blow up the Suvek and frame Castor for it. Roman's mother pleads with Castor not to turn against Roman, saying he needs his guidance. Roman and Drake locate Castor's stash of explosives and abscond with a few of them. Meanwhile, Teri spots them doing this from a surveillance bug she had planted in Castor's place.

Taylor expresses sadness over the fact that not only is this pregnancy dangerous, she really liked (or likes) Drake. Emery admits to Taylor that she and Roman never had sex during their relationship.

Teri listens in on Castor discussing her many strengths, but I can't help but wonder if he knows that she is listening and is doing this just to further manipulate her. He later discovers that someone has been in his stash of explosives. He corners Roman and demands he get his explosives back, not sure why he would even use them since he doesn't believe him capable of taking him out. They get into a scuffle over Roman's bag but when Castor gets it, he finds it is only full of empty cans. Drake successfully plants explosives on the Suvek and blows it up.

Grayson approaches Emery and tells her how he's just trying to go after the Trags and not Atrians as a whole. He also learns of her break-up with Roman. Vartan tells Grayson that Emery is pregnant with Roman's baby as his eavesdropping has led him to come to that conclusion, not realising that Taylor is the one who is actually pregnant. He expresses disdain over race-mixing, saying this is how it all starts. Grayson again warns him to stay away from Emery.

The school dance is underway. Lukas and Emery arrive and meet up with Julia. Eric tells Julia that he's going to go out and drink by the bleachers with some friends. She tells him he's going to miss her song but he tells her he's already heard her practice a million times and that she will do great. Taylor meets up with Sophia and apologises for not actually giving her an answer when she asked her to the dance. Taylor asks how she can like her but Sophia assure her that she has many great qualities.

Grayson asks Emery if she is pregnant and Emery tells him that she's not and even if she was, it's none of her business. She tells him that asking her such a question isn't doing much to prove to her that these new Red Hawks aren't so bad. Emery warns Sophia that they need to keep Taylor out of the spotlight lest she risk exposure. Unfortunately, Taylor then goes up on stage to hype up the students at the dance on the microphone.

Vega is furious about the explosion and believes it to be Castor since he used the same type of explosive device on Roman. Teri tells Vega that it wasn't Castor but refrains from explaining. Vega is furious at Teri for failing at her task and tells the Trags to arm themselves, as Castor will pay for what he has done that night.

Taylor introduces Julia to the stage to sing a song when she spots Drake and Roman walk in. Julia begins to suffer from stage fright and sings timidly. Eric watches from the audience and comes up on stage, joining her in the song. She gets her confidence back as Eric encourages her on the stage.

Vartan sneaks up behind Emery, knife drawn, and warns her not to move. He pulls her outside and is insistent that she is pregnant despite her protests to the contrary. He attempts to put her in his car but then Grayson comes from out of nowhere and attacks him. Vartan gets the upper hand and begins beating Grayson but then the other Red Hawks come over and pull him off of Grayson.

Eric tells Julia he was drinking with his friends but realised he would rather be inside with her. Taylor approaches Drake and tells him she is pregnant. He tries to talk to her but she would rather continue on her path to get over him and walks away.

Grayson apologises to Emery as Vartan is arrested. He says that Vartan had nothing to do with him or the new Red Hawks and she says she believes him. He offers to take her home but she asks him to go inside for a dance instead.

The Trags shot Castor and begin chasing him through the back alleyways of the Sector. Teri intercepts and helps him hide.

Roman assures Drake everything is going to be okay and reminds him of all they have accomplished recently. Drake asks what the point is and Roman tells him that even though being with Emery had its difficulties, he doesn't regret it for a second. Drake heads off to find Taylor. He tells her he only broke up with her because of a bad situation but only ever wanted to be with her. He promises to be there no matter what happens. Taylor becomes emotional and begins shedding glowing tears. They embrace.

Emery tells Grayson she's willing to help him as long as he's not against integration or for hurting Atrians. She wants all Atrians to be free. Grayson insists that they are only focused on going after terrorist Atrians who would want to harm humans. Emery attends a new Red Hawks meeting and Roman spies this from afar, horrified.

Teri is shown to be patching up the injured Castor and we see when he is alone that he is wearing the key around his neck. Roman's mother tells him about Castor's being no longer in power. The Suvek is shown to be fine, as Vega and Saroya had built it to withstand attack. Vega says that it will be introduced to the humans in just a few days.

Star-Crossed airs on the CW on Mondays at 8PM.

"Star-Crossed" Interviews at Wondercon 2014!

On Friday, April 18, the CW's Star-Crossed made an appearance at Wondercon for a panel at which episode 10, "What Storm Is This That Blows," was aired followed by a brief interview. Before their panel, the folks from the show met in a press room where Museled sat down with the cast and show-runners.

Titus Makin Jr. and Brina Palencia talked about the joys of being sci-fi fans on a show that William Shatner has begun to live tweet, representing the LGBT community, and teased about what's to come for the rest of Season 1.

Chelsea Gilligan discussed that epic headbutt as well as the dynamics of Teri's relationship with her mother Vega while Victoria Platt covered the difficulties of shooting with a 2-year-old experiencing separation anxiety and her reaction to learning the identity of Gloria's baby's father.

Greg Finley and Natalie Hall shared their favorite parts of working with each other and their thoughts on "Draylor" fan videos.

Aimee Teegarden and Matt Lanter talked about the difficulties of speaking a new fictional language, shooting underwater, the villainous Castor, and the original fan content inspired by the show.

Malese Jow and Jesse Luken teased at Eric's most difficult scene to film (which hasn't aired yet), the show's ability to explore important social issues, and the joys of filming scenes with more of the cast members present.

Meredith Averill and Adele Lim shared the joys of seeing fans enjoy the scenes and moments that mean a great deal to them, developing Atrian culture, and formally invited William Shatner to appear on Star-Crossed!

Star-Crossed follows an alien species known as the Atrians, who crash-landed on earth and have been forced to live in a place known as The Sector, isolated from humans ever since. 10 years after their arrival, seven young Atrians are given an opportunity to attend high-school as part of a test-run integration program. An Atrian boy named Roman is quite smitten with a human girl named Emery, since she had helped him on Arrival Day and shown him kindness. But the show is more than just a simple love story, as it explores the perils of differing species coming together and the difficulties of forming bonds with others when discrimination and social injustice come into play. The show airs on Mondays on the CW at 8PM.

Star-Crossed S1E10 - "What Storm Is This That Blows So" Recap

What storm is this that blows so contrary?
Is Romeo slaught'red, and is Tybalt dead?
My dearest cousin, and my dearer lord?
Then, dreadful trumpet, sound the general doom!
For who is living, if those two are gone?
Romeo and Juliet, Act 3, Scene 2, Line 64-68

Teri sneaks on board the Atrian ship and knocks out a guard with a kiss and a leaf. She presses some buttons and calls someone to tell them "it's done." At school, Roman spots Teri speaking Sondiv with some unmarked Atrians, saying "We have until sunset. I'll handle the job inside the school myself." He confronts her but she won't tell him what the Trags are planning. He warns her to stay away from Emery, concerned that they might be going after her. Roman pulls Emery into a closet to tell her what he overheard and Julia comes in to tell them that everyone knows about their relationship, as Castor's video was leaked online. They are harassed by some people in the lunchroom but Taylor steps in to defend them and scares them off.

Grayson approaches Drake and is ready to call in his debt. He wants information. Julia catches Eric making a snide comment about Roman and Emery's relationship but he is ashamed to see that she overheard and tries to tell her it was a joke. Teri slips some powder into Roman's drink in the lunchroom which makes him become more paranoid, hostile, impulsive, and erratic. Julia is forced to submit some of her blood to Mr. Burke while Ms. Bennett threatens to harm her family if she does not cooperate.

The school is placed under lockdown as a hurricane has begun. Sophia and Lukas begin investigating the storm, as it has come from out of nowhere and is happening at an unusual time of the year. Roman expresses increasingly erratic concerns to Drake about Teri, the Trags, and a threat against Emery. He ends up attacking Grayson when he attempts to warn Emery to stay away from Roman. Taylor tells Drake that she's interested in going public with their relationship, having been inspired by Roman and Emery's being out in the open. Grayson overhears this conversation.

Drake confronts Teri, listing his symptoms, and says that he knows she has drugged him with Fetal. She won't admit to it but he knows that he is right. Mr. Burke tells Ms. Bennett that he has found that Atrian blood is needed to catalyse Cyper but he'll need a whole lot of it to confirm his findings. Drake tells Grayson about the Trags and that he used to be one and Grayson says that he wants to know about the Trags' plans. He also tells him he has until the end of the day to break up with Taylor, saying he doesn't want her to get hurt.

Emery expresses concerns to Roman about his behaviour and pulls him back into a closet to try to figure out what's happening with him. He repeatedly kisses her but she pushes him off and says that he needs to stay put and cool off. She leaves him in there and is approached by Eric, who asks her to check in on Julia, still feeling bad about what he said. She finds Julia with a needle mark on her arm and tears in her eyes. Julia finally tells her about Ms. Bennet, Cyper, the threat against her family, and the fact that it's only a matter of time before she figures out that Atrian blood is needed to use it.

Drake approaches Taylor and ends things with her, saying that he can't deal with the type of treatment Roman and Emery are now facing. Taylor says that some things are worth fighting for but Drake replies that he doesn't think that they are worth fighting for. Lukas and Sophia are investigating the storm's origins (right above the Atrian ship) and Sophia tells him that the ship's artificial gravity generators could have caused the storm but they don't know how or who could have caused this.

Roman and Emery get into an argument where Roman says that he always chooses her over the good of his people and that it's always the wrong choice, saying that she is his weakness. She tells him to go get his head together before he hurts someone else. Teri overhears this argument. The lights go out at the school and Teri goes after Roman in the broom closet, trying to get him to have sex with her. They kiss for a bit but he's able to snap out of it, saying he doesn't want this. Emery and Julia walk in on the closet to see them topless and walk out. Teri tries to make him stay, but Roman tells her that they were never good together as she brings out the worst in people but with Emery, he's who I want to be.

Roman is trying to find Emery and ends up getting rough with Drake, who keeps his cool since he knows what's going on with Roman. He tells Roman about Teri drugging her and that he needs to stay put till it wears off as he's no help to anyone in this condition. Drake promises to help out. Emery and Julia head into the lab to try to get rid of Julia's blood samples but are forced to hide when Teri comes in. She attempts to steal some supplies but is caught by Mr. Burke who chloroforms her, lays her out on a slab, and begins to drain her blood.

Eric talks to Grayson about rumours of his starting a new Red Hawks group. Eric warns him that it isn't a good idea but Grayson tells him to not try to stop him. Mr. Burke steps out of the room to take a phone call, during which Emery and Julia try to get Teri out. They are attacked by Burke in a stairwell and when Julia calls out for help, Roman comes charging in and begins viciously beating Burke. Emery pulls him off and gets him to stop.

Sophia tells Lukas that it might be one of the Atrian Seven that has caused the hurricane and that they need to figure out what's going on before reporting them since it would halt the integration program. She points out that the storm appears to be winding down and asks him to wait ten more minutes before telling Gloria. Ms. Bennet confronts Julia about the destroyed lab and threatens her again. Gloria comes in with Emery and school guards and reprimands her and Mr. Burke for extortion, kidnapping, attempted murder, and by assaulting an Atrian student, she will now be classified as a national security risk.

The lights come back on. Teri thanks Roman for his help in saving her life but he's still angry about her drugging him. He tells her that they are no longer friends. She then goes into the lab and begins stealing various chemicals. Sophia is still heart-broken over Drake and Sophia approaches her to see if she is okay. Taylor asks her if she thinks she is the kind of girl that's worth fighting for and Sophia tells her she's the kind of girl people go to war for. Taylor kisses Sophia while Drake looks on sadly. Eric approaches Julia and apologises for his earlier comments, saying it was dumb and that some habits are hard to break. He says that the obsessive paranoia regarding Atrians is who he used to be but doesn't want to continue anymore. He tells her she's the kindest person he's ever met and she kisses him. He huckles, saying "For a nice girl, you sure don't kiss like one," and they kiss again. Roman tells Emery about his being drugged and asks for her forgiveness. Emery does forgive him but believes that he was right about her being his weakness and how for the good of his people, they shouldn't be together. He tells her they can get through this but she says that right now, this is how it has to be. He tells her he's not letting go and she tearfully kisses him goodbye.

Back at the Sector, Sophia tells Roman about the storm originating from the Atrian ship. He tries to figure out why the Trags would do this but then spots the unmarked Trags seen speaking with Teri earlier disguised as post-storm relief. Grayson is shown to be leading his first meeting with the new Red Hawks. He tells them they need to be smart and not resort to chaotic violence but do need to not rest until they find stop every Atrian that wishes to do harm to humans. Roman and Drake watch as the unmarked Atrians smuggle in unknown supplies. Drake tells Roman about Vega wanting his mother to build the Suvek, which means "blast" or "flash" and they realise that they need to stop this unknown weapon from starting a war.

Star-Crossed S1E9 - "Some Consequence Yet Hanging in the Stars" Recap

I fear, too early; for my mind misgives
Some consequence yet hanging in the stars
Shall bitterly begin his fearful date
With this night's revels and expire the term
Of a despisèd life, closed in my breast,
By some vile forfeit of untimely death.
Romeo and Juliet, Act 1, Scene 4, Lines 106-111

Taylor has enlisted Grayson to help her plan a party for an upcoming meteor shower. Sophia is excited because she is looking forward to the opportunity to socialise and has never seen a meteor shower before. Roman has watched the footage and tells Emery he wants more time to figure out if there's more to the story than meets the eye. He tells Emery he's happy to finally have her in his life as someone he can actually trust.

Drake is reconnecting with his mother but she becomes uncomfortable with all the staring and tells Drake someone is coming for her. Castor tells Roman that what he saw in the footage was true but it was because the pilots were disobeying orders from Roman's father. Roman's father had said they were not to land on an inhabited island but they wanted to colonise it. The reason why they landed was because Drake's mother fought with Castor and it caused the ship to crash.

Roman tells Emery what he has learned but she is skeptical about the story, saying Roman might not know him well or long enough to trust him. Roman says he has proved he has changed with every day. She encourages him to speak to Saroya, Drake's mother before jumping to any conclusions.

Drake and Taylor resume their physical relationship and she invites him to the party she is throwing for the meteor shower. He says he won't be able to make it but won't offer up more details. Grayson confronts Drake about what he saw on the footage and Drake says that Grayson was black-out drunk and tried to drive off but he and Zoe stopped him and brought him back. Grayson asks why he would bother to help and Drake says he was simply returning the favour after his helping when the Red Hawks captured him at the carnival, intending to feed him to alligators. Grayson asks where Zoe went but Drake says he hasn't seen her since that night.

Roman goes to speak to Saroya but she attacks him before he can say or ask anything. Drake comes in and breaks up the fight and Saroya tells Roman she was trying to get the footage to Roman's father and that Castor was the one who had disobeyed Knox's orders. Roman and Drake end up arguing since Roman wants to believe that his uncle is trying to keep Trags (like Drake) "on a leash."

Roman tells Emery what happened and how he is more confused than ever. It wouldn't make sense for her to try to show the footage if it was going to incriminate her. Roman wants to talk to the Tribal Elders and say what he has seen to figure out where to proceed and makes plans to meet up with Emery after doing so, so they may watch the meteor shower together.

Saroya and Drake are preparing in case they are attacked when Teri visits to tell Drake that her mother has summoned him. Emery helps Taylor set up for the party and Taylor is obviously stressed about her (non-)relationship with Drake. Without explicitly naming names, Emery advises her that you can't get close to anyone until they are completely open with her. Grayson asks Taylor if she has seen Zoe at all and tells him about how Drake tracked her down for him. Grayson says he thinks something else was going on with Zoe and asks for her help. She agrees, under the condition she's back by 8 to get ready for the party.

Drake and Saroya meet with the Trags and Saroya is horrified to learn that her son has joined them. Vega wants Saroya to use her engineering skills to build a weapon called the Suvek but she refuses, saying she'd rather go back into the box than help the Trags. Saroya argues with Drake about his joining the Trags but he points out that she wasn't the one who raised him, as he was alone.

Roman goes to find the Elders but instead finds Castor, who locks him inside the room with him. Castor asks where the flight recorder is and Roman tells him what Saroya said about him being he one to mutiny. Castor says that they had been searching for months to find a habitable planet but Knox wouldn't let them stop on Earth because he didn't want to risk a conflict. Castor says there was no guarantee they'd find another suitable planet and just wanted their species to survive. Roman says that the won't rest until everyone knows about what he has done. Castor strikes him.

Emery tells Sophia about her now being involved with Roman but Sophia says she had already suspected and sympathises with how difficult it must be for them to keep their relationship secret. Emery has Sophia help her sneak into the Sector, disguised as her, and reaches the place where Castor is keeping Roman captive. She doesn't see Roman, but does see Castor when he steps outside. Castor tells Roman he plans to plant an illegal weapon in Roman's things to have him sent to the crate so he can be the next leader of the Atrians and improve their conditions.

Emery heads to Drake's place, where Teri also is, and brings the security footage. She asks for their help, saying that Castor has Roman captive at the House of Cards. Drake says that Roman is his family and needs to go help him and Saroya refuses to let him go alone. Emery implores Teri to help her help them.

Grayson has Taylor help him retrace his steps and says he remembers feeling scared like something bad was going to happen because of Drake. They reach the place where their final showdown took place but Taylor insists on leaving while Grayson decides to stay behind, saying he still doesn't trust Drake and will find his way back to the party himself.

Drake and Saroya break into the House of Cards and fight the guards. They take them down and get Roman free from his restraints but Castor draws his weapon on them. Emery and Teri watch from afar, having formed some plan. Emery approaches them and tells Castor she has the footage and will give it to him if he lets them go. He insists that he take her to it now, threateningly. She brings them to a pod where the Trags are waiting. Vega tells Castor she has seen the footage and tells him to release the hostages if he wants it back. He orders them to be released and Vega hands it over. Castor tells Roman it's only the beginning and Roman tells him he can count on it. Vega tells Saroya that the Trags will escort them back to their pods but unless she helps them, she will be on her own from now on. With Castor gunning for her, it's unlikely she'll have much choice but to team up.

Taylor's party is underway with skin, drinks, music and dancing. Taylor is spending time with Sophia and Sophia kisses her. Taylor apologises, saying she's not particularly into girls and is also interested in someone else.

Roman apologises to Drake about fighting with his mother and Emery thanks Teri for her help. Grayson is still pacing at the scene of the crash and retracing his steps. He begins to remember flashes from the night, including Drake choking Zoe and saying, "We should kill her." drake arrives at Taylor's party and she gets angry, saying she wants more than just sex which is something he doesn't seem able to give. Drake says he couldn't talk about things because it was about his mother who was gone for most of his life and having her back has been difficult. He tells Taylor that she makes him want to be a better man (because we've never heard that line before) and they sit together enjoying the meteor shower. Grayson arrives and tells Drake he knows he killed Zoe and knows this because he retraced his steps and everything came back to him, including the crash, the fight, Roman, and Drake. He also remembers Zoe being on the ground with Drake's hands around her neck. Drake asks Grayson what he wants and Grayson says he'll let him know.

Roman and Emery sit on the roof and watch the meteor shower. She asks what he's going to do about Castor and Roman says he'll tell the Elders the truth, even without the recorder. He tells Emery she was right and that he should have listened to her. They enjoy their time as a couple but are interrupted by Castor showing footage of Roman and Emery together, telling the Atrians that Roman's interests lie elsewhere and therefore make him a less ineffectual leader. Teri asks Vega why she didn't take Castor and his men out and Vega says they need him alive... for now. Saroya visits and says that she was right and offers to build the Suvek if she promises to protect her and Drake. Teri asks Vega what the Suvek is and she says it is the last weapon they will ever need against the humans.

Star-Crossed S1E8 - "An Old Accustom'd Feast" Recap

This night I hold an old accustomed feast,
Whereto I have invited many a guest,
Such as a I love; and you among the store,
One more, most welcome, makes my number more.
Romeo and Juliet, Act 1, Scene 2, Lines 20-23

Roman's uncle Castor visits the school to provide information to Gloria about an upcoming Atrian holiday called Dinaskyu. The Atrian Seven will be permitted to invited humans to the sector for the occasion. Roman pulls Emery into a janitor's space for some making out, to invite her to join him for the holiday, as well as warn her that his mother isn't too happy about humans coming in. Julia has also been invited to attend by Sophia. Ms. Benton asks Julia if she would be interested in an internship, which is clearly a rouse to get closer to her and her cyper-infused blood. Julia advises Emery to get some help from Sophia on Atrian customs.

Roman invites Drake to join him and his family for the Dinaskyu and Drake agrees under the condition that he can bring his favourite herb. Gloria asks Roman to pose for a photo-op with some dignitaries that will be visiting the Sector for Dinaskyu and he refuses. He will no longer be her dancing monkey, regardless of his support for the integration program. Emery breaks up with Grayson and he tells her he knows about her relationship with Roman as well as her part in getting his mother locked up.

Roman and Castor visit Vega to make sure she doesn't harm any humans that will be visiting for Dinaskyu. She says she will declare them off-limits if they do her a yet-to-be-determined favour. Vega asks Teri if she has found Zoe and Teri says that she is missing. Since Zoe is not here to be punished for her failure, Drake will have to pay the price instead.

Sophia tells Emery about Dinaskyu and its origins relate to men being shipped out to fish. The womyn get flowers because they would take care of the men while they were gone. Emery asks if she should bring flowers to her mother and though Sophia hesitates at first, she then says yes. Drake is buying flowers for Maia, Roman's mother, when Vega comes to ask about Zoe. Drake says he thinks she had spent too much time around the humans. Vega invites him to her Dinaskyu celebration so he can receive his new assignment as the new outside operative.

Julia visits Ms. Benton who shows her some DNA with Cyper in it. She then says the sample is from Julia, who claims to not know how it got into her blood. She offers her an opportunity to help with the research and asks her to consider it. She also tells Julia to keep quiet about it so no one will learn about the Cyper being in her system.

Drake tells Roman he's going to have to withdraw from the program, after which he'll have his marks removed and be sent to another city. He tells Roman he would have his throat slit if he doesn't go along with it. Grayson's dad visits him at the diner, trying to convince him to come home. He asks him about Drake and Zoe being with him at the party and how much he'd had to drink that night. They argue some more about their differing beliefs and part ways.

Roman visits Vega and says that Drake sounded strange, sounding like he was saying goodbye. He says he doesn't know what Vega is planning but wants her to release Drake. She says that she wants prisoner 337 released from the Crate and assures him the prisoner is a non-violent, wrongly accused not-Trag. Roman tells Emery about this and he says he can't tell Castor about any of this but he says he has a plan.

Grayson asks Ms. Benton about Zoe and she tells him she hasn't been seen since his parents' fundraiser. Ms. Benton asks Julia if she has changed her mind about helping with the research but Julia says that it's wrong since Ms. Benton wouldn't be so secretive if it wasn't. Roman visits Gloria and offers to help her again under the condition that he release prisoner 337 from the Crate. He tells her releasing a prisoner on Dinaskyu would be a huge gesture to the Atrians and that if his father were alive, he would be asking the same thing.

Emery and Julia arrive at the Sector and Castor advises Emery that the best way to win Roman's mother over is to make him happy. A young Atrian girl approaches Emery with a tangled net and Emery helps untangle it before forming it into a star. Sophia recognises it as similar to what Roman has. Gloria visits prisoner 337 and finds that the prisoners are surrounded by heat panels that keep them weak and dried out. The prisoner is an old woman, who is allowed into a water tank and comes out of it looking several decades younger.

Drake bids his mother good-bye in the hall of the missing. Castor brings a bowl of water in which Emery and Julia both wash their hands. Maia refuses to use the bowl after the humans. Emery tries to give Maia some flowers but she refuses to accept them, even after Roman and Sophia scold her. At Vega's celebration, the Trags bring flowers to Vega, calling her mother. Teri apologises to Drake, saying she wishes she could do something. Vega calls Drake up and tells them he will be leaving them behind, making the biggest sacrifice a Trag can make.

Gloria brings the prisoner Soroi back to her old pod and leaves her to allow her time to prepare for the feast. The woman then climbs through the ceiling, grabs a bag, and leaps out into the Sector. Maia refuses to go the feast because of the humans. Emery stays with Sophia to help her clean while Roman promises to save her a seat. Maia tells her she never understood her husband's desire for peace with humans and that nothing will make up for her father murdering her husband. Sophia interrupts and tells Maia that Emery is the girl that saved Roman's life on Arrival Day. Seeing the star confirmed her suspicions - it is like the one Roman keeps in his room. Emery apologises for making her uncomfortable and says she will leave. Soroi leaves her bag on Roman's door and Emery passes by it. She opens it and finds a silver container. Upon touching it, blue lines come from it, wrap around her arm, and she collapses. We then see Emery as an alien piloting a ship with Soroi as the other pilot. Castor comes in and shoots the version of her in the vision while Soroi cries out in horror.

Gloria nods from afar to Roman to tell him she has held up her end of the bargain. Emery wakes from her vision. Grayson watches footage from the night of the fundraiser and sees himself being returned to the party by Atrians. Ms. Benton approaches Julia in the Sector and threatens to put something in her father's drink that will kill him. Julia tells her she doesn't know how the Cyper got in her blood but offers to tell her where it's growing.

Roman tells Drake he has gotten him released from Vega. Drake asks how he did it but he says he'll tell him later, as he has been summoned for a photo op. Julia finds Emery and tells her she has to leave and that she needs to go with her. Emery is still searching for Roman and finds him with Castor. Grayson calls his father to say he's ready to come home and finds him at a Red Hawk meeting.

Maia and Sophia join Roman and Emery at the feast. Castor addresses the guests, saying Dinaskyu is a celebration of family. Soroi is brought forward with Gloria and asks where Nox is. Gloria tells her that Castor is the new leader after Nox was killed. Emery is shocked upon seeing Soroi, recognising her from the vision. Castor is also shocked to see her and not-exactly-subtly moving away, finishes his speech by telling the crowd that this year will change every Atrian's life for the better. Drake sees Soroi and is thrilled - it's his mother! They hug and cherish the reunion.

Ms. Benton finds the Cyper growing from an arm. She calls Mr. Burke to inform him of this discovery and orders him to bury all the Atrian bodies they have. Emery pulls Roman aside and he thanks her for being there for Dinaskyu. She then shows him the silver device, asking if he knows what it is. He says it's like an Atrian black box. She tells him someone left it outside his pod and when she touched it, she was piloting a ship. He tells her that if you touch the device, you relive the pilot's experience. Emery tells him that someone came onto the bridge of the ship and shot her. He asks who it was and she tells him it was Castor.

Star-Crossed airs on Mondays on the CW at 8PM.

Star-Crossed S1E7 - "To Seek a Foe" Recap

Capulet. What noise is this? Give me my long sword, ho!
Lady Capulet. A crutch, a crutch! Why call you for a sword?
Capulet. My sword, I say! Ol Montague is come
And flourishes his blade in spite of me.
Montague. Thou villain Capulet! --- Hold me not; let me go.
Lady Montague. Thou shalt not stir one foot to seek a foe.
~ Romeo and Juliet, Act 1, Scene 2, Lines 78-83

Grayson has been crashing at Emery's place and he asks her to go with him to confront his mother about what she has done. Zoe is stalking Roman and Drake after promising vengeance on them. Julia and Drake are both telling Emery and Roman they should be confessing their feelings to one another. Also, Sophia's still hung up on Taylor. When Lukas goes to help load some things in Taylor's car, he gets infected with some black cyper that was set by Zoe to infect Taylor. She laughs at the scene and drives off. Emery spots the black cyper and gives it to Roman, who shows it to Drake. They head back to the Sector to get some answers. Drake offers to take Roman to the place where the body was buried but Roman says they need to figure out how to counter the black cyper first.

Emery and Sophia go to visit Lukas in the hospital. Lukas' mother greets Sophia with a hug, saying that Lukas has talked about her a great deal and she appears touched by the gesture. Lukas' lungs and airway have been badly burned. Roman and Drake visit Roman's uncle who tells them about the devastating abilities of the black cyper. The only cure is freshly cut black cyper mixed with Atrian blood. He also gives them a bomb to put in the middle of the plant that will destroy it but only if they get to it in time.

Emery learns from a hospital worked that they found another person with similar symptoms. Drake and Roman return to the site and find that Zoe has moved the body. We then see she has it in a shed somewhere and there are only hours before the plant will be released. Roman and Drake fill Emery in on black cyper. Taylor is panicking about possibly being infected and Drake goes over and tells her nothing is going on between him and Zoe. She is worried about Zoe not calling her back. Drake flirts and gets Zoe's address from Taylor.

Ms. Bennett has swiped some DNA from Emery and Julia and has taken it to a lab where they are trying to determine if either girl was cured by cyper. Roman tells Emery about Zoe being a hidden Atrian and explains to her what Trags are. He also says that one of them had tried to kill her on the night of the carnival but he stopped it. He explains that if he was with her, the Trags would try to kill her. She is glad to finally know the motivation behind his actions.

Drake breaks into Zoe's place and is injured by a booby-trap. Roman and Emery are in the woods, searching for the black cyper. Grayson calls Emery, wanting her to come with him when he talks to his mother, but she apologises and says she has something else to take care of. Drake looks through some of Zoe's photos and is able to track down the location of her Trag hideout and calls Emery and Roman to let them know. All three of them head out for the lake house.

Grayson asks his mother what else she has lied about. She says that they were just trying to protect him. He tells her his dead brother would be ashamed of her. She tells him that Emery was the one responsible for getting her locked up. She tries to get him to think that Emery was just using him to get access to information from the Red Hawks. Grayson doesn't believe her and storms out.

Julia is tutoring Eric and they appear to be getting closer. Emery calls Julia to check in on Lukas and learns that he is running out of time. She and Roman approach the lakehouse and Emery is nearly shot by Zoe's arrow but Roman saves her. Roman and Zoe begin to fight while Emery heads off for the plant with the charge in hand. When she reaches it, is is very much alive, moving like a sinister extension of Poison Ivy. Emery takes a leaf from the plant, sets the charge, and places it in the centre of the plant. Just when Zoe gets the upper hand on Roman, Drake shows up and begins fighting her instead while Roman heads off to help Emery. The plant is growing too quickly and Emery is trapped in the middle of it. Roman tells her to hold her breath, grabs her, and they jump into the lake as the bomb goes off. Roman gives her mouth-to-mouth underwater and it's all very ethereal looking. After they get out o the water, Emery plants a real kiss on Roman and their pent-up feelings are finally released. Drake comes over and tells them he's glad they're both alive and that Zoe was caught in the blast.

Emery still has the leaf and brings it to the hospital. Roman shuts the blinds and prepares to use the black cyper on Lukas. Sophia comes in and asks to be the one to save him, telling Roman he's not the only one with human friends and can't save the world on his own. She sticks the black cyper in her arm and Lukas recovers, with Sophia being the first face he sees when he wakes.

In the lab, Ms. Bennett learns from the scientist running the test that Julia has cyper in her blood. Drake visits Taylor and tells her Zoe's family encountered some money problems and left town. Taylor says that Zoe never even let her in her house, saying she couldn't trust her. Drake assures her that Zoe simply was embarrassed and told him to tell Taylor she was the best friend she ever had. It doesn't really make much sense since modern technology allows people to maintain contact regardless of where they are.

Outside the hospital, Emery tells Roman everything has changed in a good way and that now they know what they're up against. He asks about Grayson and she says she can't keep lying to him and can't stay with him because of how she feels about Roman. They kiss before Sophia comes out. The Atrian siblings have to head back to the sector. Unbeknownst to Emery, Grayson saw Emery and Roman kissing.

Roman thanks his uncle, who says he is glad to have earned his trust. After Roman leaves, we then see that his uncle has a secret cabinet with many more bombs inside.

Star-Crossed airs on Mondays on the CW at 8PM.

Star-Crossed S1E6 - "Stabbed with a White Wench's Black Eye" Recap

Alas, poor Romeo, he is already dead:
stabbed with a white wench's black eye; run through
the ear with a love song; the very pin of his heart
cleft with the blind bow-boy's butt-shaft; and is he
a man to encounter Tybalt?
~ Romeo and Juliet, Act 2, Scene 4, Lines 13-17

Zoe catches some Red Hawks prepping an attack on the Atrian base. She knocks them and tells them to start talking after setting the bomb's timer on. The bomb goes off and the Atrians panic, since it was close enough to hear and feel, but no Atrian is hurt. Emery hears the news about the bomb while on a run and confronts a tabloid reporter named Matt Bendell. He asks about Cyper and even has footage of her talking about it with Julia - surely he can't use footage of underage girls? Emery keeps her cool, playing it off as nothing more than a conspiracy but Matt knows that both her and Julia are now recovered after being sick. She offers to get him a juicier story, which he says he'll publish instead if she can get it to him within 48 hours.

Roman and Drake's relationship is tense. Roman isn't keen on Drake using the memory of Knox to justify murder but Drake doesn't want to be integrated into a society of people that want to annihilate him. The news confirms that the Red Hawks were behind the attack and Emery asks Grayson about it. He says that his parents weren't involved and don't encourage violence. He also asks her about his parent's charity ball (what year do you live in?) and really wants her to be by his side. She'll get back to him about it.

Zoe tells Drake to deliver a message to Vega about Grayson's parents being the head of the Red Hawks. The guards squealed right before she blew up them up with their own bomb. Both Zoe and Drake will be headed to the charity ball, since Drake will have instructions to get to Zoe from Vega. Taylor asks Zoe what the deal is with her and Drake but Zoe tells ther the inter-species thing grosses her out. Taylor says she's over Drake but it's hard to tell if she's just lying to Zoe or also lying to herself.

Julia is worried after Emery tells her about the tabloid reporter. She suggests she reveal that Grayson's parents are the leaders of the Red Hawks and "Hatrians." Emery doesn't want to blow up Grayson's family and is going to try to find another story to run with. Eric tells Grayson he's done with the Red Hawks, having changed his tune after Grayson ending up in jail and the events of the previous night with the bomb. Emery tells Grayson that she'll be his date to the charity ball and Roman watches from afar.

Drake catches his staring and Roman insists that they're just friends. Drake tells Roman that Grayson's parents are the leader of the Red Hawks and that no human, including Emery, is to be trusted. Zoe interrupts their tense moment to give Drake his invitation. Roman tells Drake he'll be his plus one since he's going to be keeping an eye on things in case Vega is planning something for the ball.

The ball is a fancy event and Drake is wearing a bow tie. Seriously. Roman and Drake are met by Montrose, a councilman, who was in the midst of telling the Senator to donate to their scholarship funds. The Senator asks how he can improve the Sector, but just wanted a photo op with some Atrians to boost him images. Ms. Bennett comes by and tells them they look nice. Drake doesn't like being paraded around. He tells Roman to focus less on him and more so on the problem humans. He then begins gawking at Emery, who has just walked in. Grayson's mum spots him staring and rushes Emery off to give her a tour of the house.

Drake delivers a ransom note to Zoe. They've been ordered to kidnap Grayson and leave him in the woods. The ransom is a prisoner release. Zoe wants her dad back and Drake wants his mum. Drake doesn't know how they'll knock Grayson out but Zoe has an idea and tells him to meet her at the bar in an hour.

Grayson's mum talks to Emery about family and says that it's important for her to stick close to "your own" in times of need. She tells Emery she's sweet and is glad that she's been spending time with Grayson and that she shares the same values as them. Emery is just about to tell her what's what but they're interrupted by a servant in the house that tells her about a meeting she has with the Senator. She says she has a "conflict" with that and walks off. Matt approaches Emery and asks if she has a story yet and she says she'll have something soon. Emery finds Julia and she gives Emery something Lukas made that will act like a magnet that will corrupt the video file on Matt's tablet. Emery says that she can also tell Matt about the Red Hawks meeting happening after the party but she needs Julia to find out from Eric where the meeting is.

Drake spots Taylor but after some intense eye contact, she walks past him to flirt with a waiter. Roman wanders the house and Grayson asks him if he's lost. Roman tells Grayson Emery deserves to know the truth about Grayson and his parents. Grayson tells him to get out of his house and he tells her this is really about Roman's feelings for Emery. Things are tense and Emery breaks up the moment. When Roman tells her that Grayson's parents are the leaders of the Red Hawks, she tells him that she already knows. Roman is upset and leaves. She follows him out, trying to say that Grayson isn't a Red Hawk but he lists all the bad things the Red Hawks have done and it's such nonsense that she can't follow facts. She insists that it's not that simple and that she has been fighting for all of them. She knows where she stands with Grayson and is sick of Roman pushing her away. He pleads with her to understand that it kills him to walk away from her but he has to keep her safe. She says she doesn't need protecting but he tells her that he's fighting every day to make sure certain Atrians don't come after her. He says he would give her everything, but he can't right now and it wouldn't be fair to ask her to wait for a day that might never come.

Julia manages to give a bogus story to Eric that gets the name of the bar out of him. Emery tells Grayson he should stand up to his parents. She gets a text from Julia and leaves to go find her. Zoe walks up and offers Grayson a shot, which he takes. He's been drugged. Though he's still awake, it's lights off inside. She tells Drake to handle Taylor while she gets Grayson to her car. He flirts with her and when she offers to go upstairs with him, he rejects her, seeing that Zoe is in clear. Roman is looking for Drake and sees him and Zoe with Grayson from the second story window. He's not able to reach them in time but he finds the ransom note from the Trags, demanding the release of five prisoners or Grayson will be returned one piece at a time. He takes the ransom note and runs off with it.

Emery warns Grayson to not go to the Red Hawk meeting, saying they're going to be hit that night. She asks him to trust and he agrees to not go. Matt tries to tell Ms. Bennett about the Atrians but Emery interrupts.

Zoe tells Drake that if Roman blows her cover, he'll have to eliminate him. She tells him they don't have friends, only the cause.

Emery is in Matt's van and he has drone cameras watching the bar with the Red Hawk meeting. He's thrilled about the information given and she turns down his offer to continue work with them. She discreetly pulls out the magnetic device.

Roman catches up to Zoe and Drake, having swum and Drake asks to talk to him but she wants to run him over instead. Drake swerves the steering wheel and the car flips. Roman helps Grayson out of the car and Drake says that Zoe gave him something. Roman tells him that the humans would punish them but Drake says he's doing this for the Atrians. Zoe hits Drake with a gun and tells Roman to listen or she'll shoot Drake.

Emery knocks something over to cause Matt to get out of the van to fix the feed. She uses the device on the tablet but it's going too slowly for her liking. He gets back in the van and fixes the feed right as Emery finishes corrupting the file. The feed has just come back on and Margaret Montrose, Grayson' mother, comes out, revealing herself as the Grand Matriarch of the Red Hawks. She gives them a speech rallying their efforts and tells them they are amassing more explosives and will soon attack the Pods (where the Atrians sleep). Matt is thrilled by the story and Emery is upset.

Zoe has both Roman and Drake at gunpoint. Drake has betrayed their cause and Roman is a witness. They both have to die. Drake manages to knock her down and begins strangling Zoe, saying he is a warrior and can't let her get away. Roman talks him down but as Zoe walks off, she laughs and says that they have signed their own death sentences. She tells to enjoy their time and that their days are numbered.

Drake tells Roman that he might as well be with Emery, since they'll be dead soon. They prepare to get Grayson back to his place, agreeing to tell him they found him drunk and passed out on the front lawn. Matt brags to Ms. Bennett about the Red Hawks story. He tells her about his corrupted video file and that there were two girls talking about Cyper and she asks which girls it was.

Margaret Montrose is arrested after Matt's story is published. Julia assures Emery that she did the right thing. Emery admits that she doesn't know if she can be with Grayson after she and Roman talked. She says she would rather have "someday" with Roman instead of being Grayson or another boy right now. She hasn't told Roman how she feels yet but Julia pulls her downstairs and tells her she should head to the Sector gate and meet him. But of course, who shows up at her door? Grayson.

Emery apologises about his mother and Grayson is upset about being lied to regarding the violence. His father wanted him to be a part of a press conference and spin the story but he refused. He finally took a stand but now he doesn't know what to do. He has nowhere else to go.

Zoe hitchhikes and tells the driver she doesn't have far to go. She also has her dagger ready, to dispose of him if need be.

Roman walks to Emery's but just as he's about to knock, he sees Grayson putting his head on Emery's shoulder and he leaves with sadness in his eyes.

Star-Crossed S1E5 - "Dreamers Often Lie" Recap

Romeo. I dreamt a dream tonight.
Mercutio. And so did I.
Romeo. Well, what was yours?
Mercutio. That dreamers often lie.
Romeo. In bed asleep, while they do dream things true.
~ Romeo and Juliet, Scene 1, Act 4, Lines 49-53

In the next step of the integration program, the Atrian Seven are being permitted to go into town though they still have to be back in time for their curfew. The guards will be accompanying them. Grayson gets tickets for him and Emery to see a showing of The Omen. Roman checks in with Lukas, who tells him he still hasn't been able to pin-point the location which means the phone must have been turned off.

The Trags Drake with delivering the box to a Trag that's living on the outside after removing her markings. There's a loose slat under a blue bench in the town square in which he must leave a note with a meeting time and place. Teri appears offended that Drake has been given the task instead of her, especially when it's her mother giving out the assignment.

Gloria, her mother and son hide out in their safe room as some Red Hawks attack and vandalise their place. Her mother warns her that she is putting all of them at risk and that the Red Hawks beat a man half to death for supporting the Atrians. Her son is in danger so Gloria decides to take her son to Algeida, as Knox had promised to take him there if things ever got too dangerous. Her mother points out that he had also said that only an Atrian could find it.

Emery and Grayson go on their date. She asks about whether his parents would bring harm to the Atrians and he insists that they only hate them but wouldn't hurt them. Their date is interrupted and Grayson says that Eric needs a ride and that it's an emergency. He asks her to save him a seat while he  goes off. He picks Eric and two other men up and they are chased by the police. Eric doesn't even know who the men are, only that they are Red Hawks. They pull over and the men run out while Grayson is still sitting in his car. The police officer finds the spray cans of red paint in the backseat.

The next day at school, Lucas tells Roman that the phone has been turned back on more than once and it's currently on the third story of the school. Emery asks Eric where Grayson is, as he never made it back to their date and all he will tell her is that he has been arrested. Lucas and Roman find a mobile device and a piece of paper that only Roman can read (Atrians can see farther on the UV spectrum) and finds a strange message in his father's handwriting. He decodes the hidden message within the message: Algeida. He tells Lucas that Algeida is a place where some Atrians live, deep in the bayou, free from humans. Roman used to think it was a fairytale but now he's not so sure. Lucas warns him that this could be a set-up but Roman is determined to get answers regarding his father.

The Atrian Seven head into town. Teri asks Drake for the cube, saying that the guard has a thing for brunettes and never checks her bag. Once off the bus, she says that she'll give it back once he sets up the meeting place and time. She claims that her mother ordered her to help after he left. Sure. Taylor is still crushing on Drake, saying "high schools are boring." She wants to find someone who can help her get Drake and sets her sights on Sophie. She interrupts Lucas' chatting with Sophie to tell Sophie that she will take her out shopping.

Lucas helps Roman to decrypt a line of the message, after which Roman heads off to follow that lead. Taylor takes Sophie into a store in which she is able to virtually try on clothes by standing on a platform and having an image of herself appear wearing various outfits. She then asks about Drake and says that he pretty much keeps to himself. Roman comes across Drake right after he has slipped in the note. Roman asks about Algeida and Drake tells him about a gatekeeper from Atrian legend. Legend has it that it's so deep that not even an Atrian can swim there and the gatekeeper must light three fires. He asks Drake whether he wants to help him find Algeida and Drake declines, mentioning the Red Hawks' attacking him the last time he snuck off. As Roman goes off, Gloria watches him from afar.

Grayson's parents scold him for taking the fall for Eric, not wanting his or the Red Hawks' reputation to be tarnished. They say that they've gotten Eric to confess, they'll get Eric a lawyer, and offer him a job when he gets out. Emery visits Grayson and he tells her how Eric's taking the rap for a hate crime and says that Eric would never be so violent and Emery suggests they go talk to Eric to see if he remembers seeing anything, saying that she's willing to trust Eric if Grayson sees something good in him.

"If you are an Atrian, you will see." Roman follows this message and spots a trail on the spectrum only Atrians can see. He follows it and is watched by someone in the woods. Another Atrian, perhaps?

Drake and Teri head to a club where Drake has set up the meet with his contact. Teri agrees to stay away and come over when he gives the signal. Taylor and Sophie come in, too, and Taylor present Sophie with a gift. Taylor spots Drake, and it's really sad to see Sophie get used like this. Though Taylor's not entirely bad, seeing as how she's not racist (specist?) against Atrians but using a nice person like Sophie is still vile. Lucas comes over and takes Sophie off to hang out and Taylor heads off to Drake. He tells her she can't sit there, as he is waiting for someone, and she says that his wait is over since she is there now. The conversation stays cryptic, as Drake begins to think that she is actually an Atrian and she just wants to get some sex. They head into a restroom and Taylor begins stripping. He's hesitant at first but then she unleashes the dirty talk and they make with the sexual shenanigans.

Eric tells Grayson and Emery that the actual assailants were on motorcycles and one of them had a custom sexy skeleton on his bike tank. Grayson and Emery still want to help him but he doesn't seem confident that they'll make much of a difference. Back at the club, Teri approaches a girl from school, Zoe, and says that she knows that she is the undercover Trag. She denies it at first but eventually whips out a pretty intense looking blade.

Drake begins to realise he has made a mistake and when he grows suspicious, he splashes water on Taylor's face and is upset to learn that she is a human. Zoe insists on speaking with Drake and Teri's attempts to rise up in the ranks is not doing so well. Drake comes out and Zoe scolds them for being amateurs and Drake for not being able to keep it in his pants. She warns him that the Trags will not be happy when they find out but says that there is work to be done. She has Teri hand over the cube, which she puts in her purse, and walks out with Drake. Taylor watches them leave together, looking quite upset.

Roman comes across a building in the middle of the bayou and lights three fires as the next step in finding Algeida. Back at the club, Lucas approaches Sophie, who has changed into her new dress and tells her she looks amazing. She thanks him but being clueless to the fact that he is interested in her, walks off before he can say anything else. Taylor is nursing her bruised ego with liquor and darts. Sophie approaches her and gets brushed off. Teri then comes over and shoots a dart right into the bullseye. She says it's a stupid game and she is terrible at it anyways. Taylor justifies this by saying she is playing with a handicap, waving her flask about. She tries to offer Teri some but Teri says that she does not share with humans. Taylor reminds Teri that she's stuck there until the bus comes and Teri then accepts a drink.

Drake and Zoe head out into the middle of nowhere and when Drake tries to remind her that he thought Taylor was his contact, she says he is stupid if he actually believed that. She reminds him that the Trags give out severe punishments to traitors and that she cannot wait until all the humans are choking on Black Cyper. She orders Drake to begin digging, though we don't know what for just yet.

Grayson and Emery are at a Red Hawks hang-out place and come across a motorcycle with a sexy skeleton on it. Grayson gets the location of the owner, named KP, and tells Emery that he will go in alone to identify whether it was one of the guys who jumped in the back of his truck and that all he needs to do is get a name and then they'll be able to leave and go to the police. But then she insists on going in with him.

Taylor and Teri are bonding over their disdain for men (mostly Drake) and alcohol. "We don't need validation from men or anyone else." Drake asks Zoe if it hurt to get her marks removed and she says nothing has hurt worse but a Trag does what needs to be done. They come across Beaumont's body and Zoe says he will be of more use to them dead than alive. Grayson and Emery are ambushed by KP and another biker and held at gunpoint. He tells KP that his parents are the leaders of the Red Hawks and they don't look too kindly on insubordination. KP decides that he'll kill Grayson to prevent his name from getting back to them and Grayson tries to wrestle gun away but fails to do so. Emery stops KP from pulling the trigger by saying she has just sent his name and photo to Eric and that if they don't check in, his name will still get out.

Zoe reveals to Drake that Black Cyper grows from a dead Atrian's body just like regular Cyper. She places a Cyper plant in the cube, changing it to black, and says that they will plant it in Beaumont's body and when it sprouts, the spores will spread throughout town and kill the humans. She tells Drake that when she was in the sector, the humans sent her father to the crate. She was left alone for several years and was angry and lost until the Trags came and gave her a purpose. Drake admits his mother is in the crate and they bond over the fact that they would visit the wall of the missing just to remember what their loved one's faces look like. She asks if he is willing to pay the price and he takes the cube and plants it on Beaumont's body before filling the hole back up.

Roman sneaks up on Gloria, realising that she was the one who left the message and was communicating with his father. He also knows she's been following him. He demands to know why she keeps lying and she is forced to admit the relationship she had with his father. She says that she needs to know that if the integration program fails, Algeida will be there for all Atrians. She is insistent that he take her to Algeida and he says that it's right there. He lit the three fires and no one came, though he waited for hours. He says that Algeida is a myth, just like his father. Ouch.

Lucas asks Sophie why she changed her dress, saying she was beautiful in it. She tells him that though she likes him, she has a thing for someone else and then looks at Taylor. He follows her gaze and is surprised, to say the least. As are we.

Emery spots Roman in town and he says he went exploring. She asks if he found what he was looking for and he says that freedom isn't all it's cracked up to be. She invites him to go into Lucas' party and he says he can't because of the curfew. She starts to walk away and he tells her it was nice to see her outside of school. She tells him it's his town too before heading inside. Roman spots Teri wobbling out and asks if she is drunk. She tries to make a pass but Roman merely guides her back to the bus. He asks if she's seen Drake and she tells Roman that her mother didn't think she could handle it so she gave the mission to Drake. Uh oh.

Grayson tells Emery that KP confessed and the case against him has been dropped. He and Eric are now free and Grayson commends her for being able to face off against the bikers. He apologises for putting her through all of this but she says that she's not since she was able to get to know him a lot better this way. She says it must be hard for him to be around all those Red Hawks and he says it's been easier since she arrived.

Gloria is still looking for Algeida and as she's about to leave, she finally spots the boatman. She has her mother bring her son out. The boatman is not keen on helping her but she reveals that her son is also the son of Knox's and that he is in danger from the human's. He says that he will be taken care of and have everything he needs. He makes her swear to keep the place secret and she looks on crying as her son calls out for her.

Drake looks at his mother's face on the wall of the missing and Roman approaches him, saying that he believes Drake will see his mother again. Drake says he believes that too after today and Roman asks how she will feel knowing that her son is a Trag. He tells him joining the Trags is not the answer but Drake is not convinced. While Roman is riddled with uncertainty, Drake is not. Drake is fully prepared to "lead the charge."
