"Emma." Review

Premise: Emma Woodhouse is a spirited, albeit judgmental young woman in high society. Though she is full of love and empathy for those she holds close to her, including her hypochondriac father and her best friend Harriet, she displays a tendency to look down on people who come from lower societal classes and anyone that threatens to bring out the insecurities she has within herself. She must learn to grow and mature in her personal character or risk losing those she loves.

The Good: This is by far the most stylish adaptation of a classic Austen novel as far as filmmaking choices go. There's an energy to the editing and cinematography that hasn't been seen before in the other film adaptations of Austen stories that keep the original time period. The performances are all excellent, and there's so much fun to be had with the characters sassing each other while they go on their personal journeys and character growth.

Who This Film Is For: The more lively filmmaking style of Emma (2020) and the way it more heavily embraces the comedic opportunities of the source material means that this could be the gateway film for those less acclimated to Austen adaptations or other films with a more classic, British delivery.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019) Review

In the ever-expanding landscape of cinematic universes, Warner Bros. is now kick-starting a new Pokémon film series. Pokémon Detective Pikachu may not offer anything groundbreaking as far as story-telling goes but it more than makes up for that with an exquisite visual world-building of many creatures that fans will have grown up adoring and trading. Ryan Reynolds brings an age-appropriate voiceover performance as the titular character which is further enhanced by meticulous work by the animators for this and all the Pokémon. This is a film that hits all the right beats for a family outing of parents and young children.

Justice Smith makes for an endearing lead, Tim Goodman, who is introduced as being in search of his father. Enter Detective Pikachu and shenanigans ensue. The story is strongest when it focuses on the mystery. The emotional beats are stronger than the film's marketing would lead viewers to expect. The expressive range from Pikachu's visage is impressive, as are the most large-scale action sequences. To hear more feedback regarding this film, watch my video review:

Wrath of the Titans Final Trailers and Clips

Wrath of the Titans is set to hit theaters on friday. Check out the latest trailers and featurettes to hold you over for the big release.

Am I the only one that feels mild trepidation for this? Or think that Sam Worthington desperately needs a haircut? Don't get me wrong the movie's effects look good, and I love a good man in a skirt flick more than is really sane, but I have so many complaints about the first one, that the sequel has to be phenomenal to wipe away its bad memory.

Wrath of the Titans hits theaters March 30, 2012.

WRATH OF THE TITANS Synopsis : A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington) --the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson)--is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity's lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus' godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans' strength grows stronger as Zeus' remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon's demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Wrath of the Titans Posters

In all honesty, I'm not impressed yet, because let's face it I was way to excited for Clash of the Titans, and well, I was majorly let down. The Kraken, while awesomely done, barely made a cameo even though there was much talk about him the entire time. Seriously, what was the point of hyping him up? And now Worthington and crew are back, and Worthington is in desperate need of a hair cut. There's a Minotaur, and some pretty kick ass looking monsters, lets hope that they have more than 10 seconds of screen time and don't fall victim to bad CG ala Medusa.

Wrath of the Titans: New Photo of Sam Worthington

Worthington rocks a manly skirt, I'll give him that, but after the disappointment of Clash of the Titans, I 'm not still uneasy about this next installment, because lets face it, it won't be nearly as beautiful as Immortals.

Wrath of the Titans stars Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson, Danny Huston, Edgar Ramiez, Bill Nighy, Toby Kebbell, Rosamund Pike and is directed by Jonathan Liebesman.
