Haven S4E4 - "Lost and Found" Recap
A young child named Harper hears laughter after being tucked into bed and when her mother comes back to ask if it was her, Harper says it was her imaginary friend. She follows the laughter and sneaks out of her bedroom. The next morning, her mother finds that she is missing. Nathan and Dwight come in and find a large tower built from children's toys leading up to the bedroom vent. The mother tells them that their family does not have Troubles in it.
William tells Lexie that she must find the true doorway that will lead her out or she will cease to exist. She asks him who he is, and why he didn't disappear with everyone else. He tells her he's only allowed to help her. She begins to see the holes in the walls and ceiling. Jennifer wakes hearing the warning about Audrey ceasing to exist.
Duke brings Jennifer out to where the barn was last seen and Nathan joins them to try to help the process. Nathan leaves after getting a call about another abduction. Duke has Jennifer do some yoga to try to help her relax so she can hear more. Dwight shows Nathan some photos of another tower that the child, Cameron, built in a stock room of a store he was in with his father. They watch the store's security camera and see Cameron being lured away by a creepy laugh. Nathan spots a young boy with sharp teeth on the tape. Back on the boat, Jennifer accidentally drops a bowl and Lexie hears it in the barn. William tells her that her friends are searching for her.
Nathan and Dwight send search parties that head into the woods to search for the abducted children. They discover some footprints, some of which are clawed. Vince shares some findings from the archives. There is a legend on Douens, creatures with claws that use their laugh to lure children away from their parents into the wilderness. Someone's Trouble is creating these creatures. Douens are masters of deception that can steal away even the most protected child.
Another child, Ben, is lured away by the laugh, building a tower and escaping through his window. Nathan and Dwight are trying to find the link between the children since Ben didn't go to the same pre-school as the first two children. They learn from Ben's mother that Ben is the nephew of the principal of the pre-school, Carmen Brock.
Duke has successfully managed to get Jennifer calm with a clear mind through a series of exercises. She begins to hear the conversation between Lexie and William. She learns that there is a door on each side. Both must be open in order for her to get through. Jennifer tells Duke about the door and Lexie and William hear her tell him that she needs to listen. A fog horn breaks Jennifer's concentration before she can hear more. Duke then tells her that he doesn't hear a fog horn so it must be relevant in some other way.
Nathan and Dwight get to Carmen Brock's home. She isn't there but they search her things and find that she and her husband have been trying to have a baby for years and have unsuccessfully used IVF. The husband, Baer Brock, arrives and tells them that Carmen's sister Mallory (Ben's mother) recently became pregnant by accident. This stressor triggered Carmen's trouble.
Carmen is playing ring-around-the-rosy with the missing children and the Douens. Harper falls over, suffering from hypothermia. Carmen initially wants to get her home but the Douens laughter distracts her and the rest of them begin playing again. Baer Brock tells Nathan and Dwight about a clearing in the woods where he proposed to Carmen.
Duke realises that the foghorn must have come through the barn, meaning that the location of the other door is near the foghorn. He decides to look through his charts to track the barn door down. William is coaching Lexie to follow the sound of the foghorn. She approaches a wall and finds that the door is there. When she opens it, Jennifer hears the sound of the door creaking. Lexie only finds a vortex since the other door is not opened. William tells her that she can cross the space if she makes a leap of faith.
Nathan, Dwight, and Baer are able to find Carmen, the children, and the Douens. The Douens attack Dwight when he tries to help Harper and Nathan when he tries to get Kent to safety. Nathan and Dwight back up and when Nathan notes that the Douens didn't attack Baer, he realises that the Trouble is actually his. He feels guilty for not being able to produce children for Carmen. He talks Baer through it and when they see Kent fall down from hypothermia, he is able to come to terms with his grief and guilt. The Douens then disappear and then Nathan and Dwight begin to help the children and call in medical help.
Duke and Jennifer head to a field and when Nathan comes to meet them, Jordan is following after him. Jennifer can see a door in the middle of the field but Duke can't see it. She's trying to open it but the door won't budge. Nathan arrives and can't see it either. Jordan then shows up with the rest of The Guard. Nathan surrenders his gun and Jennifer hears Lexie say, "leap of faith," and the door creaks as she opens it. The door then becomes visible to everyone present. Nathan begins trying to open the door and it still won't budge. Jennifer approaches to try it but then Vince and Dave arrives. Dave has a gun and tells them not to worry it, concerned that evil might be unleashed that they won't be able to control.
William tells Lexie he won't be coming with her and that he's sure they'll meet again. Jordan uses her Trouble to take Dave down. Jennifer opens the door and sees the same open vortex that Lexie saw from the other side. Lexie asks William who she'll be if she makes it to the other side and he tells her she will be who she most wants to be. She then hears Nathan calling "Audrey" repeatedly. She moves forward and a burst of energy explodes, knocking everyone in the field down. Nathan finds Audrey lying down and approaches her. As she slowly gets up, Nathan takes a moment to enjoy looking at her, while everyone else looks on in amazement. Nathan then takes Jordan's gun and brings it back to Audrey, putting it in her hand, and telling her that killing him is the only way to end the Troubles. He kisses her and tries to get her to shoot him. She then says she's not killing anyone and certainly not someone she's never met before. She then says, "And who is Audrey? My name is Lexie."
