Haven S4E8 - "Crush" Recap

Audrey and Nathan are hiding their love affair reunion. Vince tells Nathan that the Guard is losing patience and to hurry and get Lexie to fall in love with him. Duke tells Jennifer he's leaving town and that she'll need to find somewhere else to live. Duke witnesses a Trouble, from an unknown source, crushing things as if inside a pressure bubble and pulls a young girl away from it just in time. A man is left dead from the encounter and Duke calls the police. The people who are dead had their eardrums burst, as if a few hundred feet under water. Vince and Dave survive the attack but need to be put into a decompression chamber to counter the effects of "coming up too fast."

Jennifer finds she is being followed by a horseshoe crab that has human-looking eyes. Duke comes to apologise to Jennifer and tell her about the Trouble. She tells him he's full of crap for thinking so low of himself despite the fact that he is a hero who has saved many lives.

Jennifer asks if Jack Driscoll is the Troubled one since he is a deep sea diver but the Driscoll family has never had Troubles. The Troubles have never randomly popped up in unaffected families. Eventually, they realise that it is Jack with the Trouble and it activates yet again, wreaking havoc on Nathan, Vince, Dave, and everyone present. Jack asks Nathan to seal him in the decompression chamber and it keeps him under control. The readings show 2000 feet of pressure, ten times deeper than most scuba dives. Jack tells them that he and Aiden woke up in a ditch by the side of the road after drinking too much. Audrey has him take off his shirt and spots a hand print on his back like the one Carrie had. Audrey has Jack employ a scuba breathing technique and it helps him to calm down and the pressure subsides. If he remembers to use the technique, his Trouble will stay under control.

Aiden is going to be a father soon. He is found by an officer in the public park and tries to tell her he and Jack were abducted by two men (the thugs from the barn). When the officer tries to arrest him, his Trouble is triggered and the officer ends up dead. Jack, Audrey, and Nathan show up and try to explain to him about his Trouble. There's no way to get to him without dying so for now, Aiden is as alone as he would be at the bottom of the ocean.

Jennifer is still being followed by the seahorse crab even though she is not next to a body of water.

Jack wants Duke to kill him, thinking it will kill Aiden's trouble. Nathan and Audrey aren't so sure it will work since the Trouble is a new one that has been mysteriously given to them. Meanwhile, Duke is giving a rather unconventional eulogy for his brother where he has secretly buried him. Duke gets called to the scene and refuses for ethnical reasons but also because his Trouble is gone. He punches Nathan in anger, and when Nathan sees that the blood hasn't absorbed, he realises that Duke's trouble is gone.

The pressure bubble keeps growing and will reach the hospital soon if they don't figure something out. Nathan tries to get Audrey to shoot him to fix things but she refuses. Duke shows up with specialised pressure suits that will allow him, Nathan, and Audrey to approach Aiden. Nathan's line begins leaking so Duke has to help him get back. Audrey carries on alone and upon reaching Aiden, she coaches him into using the scuba breathing technique and the pressure bubble dissipates. Duke admits to Nathan that he killed Wade and that he didn't have a choice.

Duke returns to the Grey Gull and hooks up with Jennifer after she has spent the day trying to find a lead on her biological family. Nathan tries again to convince Audrey that killing him is for the greater good of Haven. With someone giving people Troubles, things are only getting worse.

Dave and Vince visit Duke and Jennifer and tell her about a Mikmaq legend about great evil and suffering that occurred when someone opened an otherworldly door. They then mention horseshoe crabs with human eyes and Jennifer tells them that she has seen this. Duke, Jennifer, Vince, and Dave head over to tell Audrey and Nathan what they have learned.

Vince finds a riddle in Cabot's Journal, where they found the legend, "What was once your salvation is now your doom." Duke realises this means that Audrey's killing Nathan will no longer end the Troubles. Problem is, Nathan has been coaxing Audrey into seeing that doing so would be for the greater good. Just as Duke points out this change in what was once a solution, the group hears a gun shot come from Audrey's room.

Haven airs on Fridays on Syfy at 10PM.
