"Haven" - Season 4, Episode 10 Recap
"The Trouble With Troubles"
When Audrey wakes up to find a very different Haven, she must quickly learn what has caused the change. Per usual, she is immune to the change which the town has undergone. In this version of Haven, there are no Troubles, Duke is a third-generation Haven cop, and Nathan appears to be MIA... until she finds him as a (sexy) doctor, with the last name of his birth father. As it turns out, William is also in Haven, perfectly aware that things are not right. Just like Aubrey, he is immune to the Troubles. Despite the fact that William is the creepy stalker with delusions of a shared life between them, Aubrey must team up with him to get things back to normal. Though Aubrey appears conflicted, since Nathan appears to be living a happy, domestic life, she decides to warn Duke, since leaving William to his own unsupervised devices would be highly unpredictable and potentially dangerous.
Vince turns up murdered (the first murder in decades in the alternate Haven), and Duke brings Audrey in for questioning after finding a blonde hair on the body, planted by William. She tries to explain to Duke what is going on, but he doesn't believe her. Before long, there's another murder and Duke takes off, leaving Audrey cuffed at the station. William pays her a visit at the station, disguised as her lawyer. He tells her that if she doesn't help him, more people will die, and they will be people that she cares about. We may assume that he is referring to Nathan, Duke, or both. At the crime scene, Duke finds fibre glass beneath the victim's fingernails. Nathan places time of death at four hours prior, when Audrey was still at the station in custody, meaning that she couldn't have been the murderer. Audrey is released from custody, and pays a visit to Nathan, who finds his family missing. William rings him and asks to speak to Audrey. He tells her that she must find the Troubled person or Nathan's family will die.
Audrey figures out that they need to speak to a woman named Susie, and she heads off to an open house with Nathan. As it turns out, a man named Cliff is the cause of the Trouble-free Haven. He had wished the Troubles away after his wife, Susie, died after an accident caused by volcano-Troubles. He has the ability to wish things, but they always come at a price. In this alternate Haven, Susie is alive but she is married to another man and unaware of who Cliff is. Duke shows up, and while he argues with Audrey, Nathan and Cliff drive off. Nathan brings Cliff to William, who insists that he wish for the old Haven back. Cliff refuses to do so, as it means Susie will be dead. Nathan brings his family home, but immediately leaves them to go back for Cliff, since he feels responsible for putting him in danger. Duke teams up with Audrey; he now believes her. In a heated argument, William tells Audrey that she is the one that made the Troubles, and that is the reason she has to repeatedly return to deal with them. William manages to shoot Duke. Nathan sneaks behind him with a gun and tells him to drop his gun, and instead, William shoots Cliff in the head.
Audrey wakes up again in the regular Haven-verse, with Nathan in bed with her. Things are back as they were, though Cliff is still dead. Audrey tells Nathan that they must kill William. Nathan and Duke are filled in on what happened with the alternate Haven. They find William, who tells them that Audrey hasn't told them everything and offers to do, also stating that he and Audrey are connected. He begins moving forward, and Nathan shoots him in the gut. He drops, as does Audrey. Upon closer examination, they realise that the wounds are identical. They are indeed connected. The episode ends with a cliffhanger.
Haven airs on Syfy on Fridays at 10/9c.
