Once Upon A Time Recap S3E02: Lost Girl
Gold gives a blade to the shadow to hide where not even he can find.
Hook leads the "heroes" through the jungle, and Snow tries to get Emma to use the "M" word, but she's just not ready to. And I mean can you blame the girl? Just because Snow gave birth to her, they're the same age, and being annoyingly optimistic doesn't make you a mother. Charming tries to forge ahead, but Hook stops his hand at some poisonous vines dripping with the same Dreamshade Hook used against Gold. Charming remains rather distrustful of Hook and his saucy intentions, but Emma points out that Hooks been the villain in all the stories and Pan was always the hero. Some flirty banter between the two, and they find the edge of the jungle, where Hook insists on some rest. As much as they want to go full steam ahead, rest is the best course of action at the moment. Snow tells her that hope is the key.
Flashback to Charming awakening Snow. Regina watches through the mirror as he proposes and hears Snow proclaiming her intent to take back the kingdom. Snow tries to rally villages, and although they agree with her, they aren't willing to take on the queen, who wishes to offer a deal. If Snow will give up her claim to the throne, everyone gets to leave with their lives. Snow fights and a peasant almost loses her life, as Regina easy gets around her telling her while she may be a princess she will never be a queen. Harsh!
Emma sleeps, and is awaken by Pan. He introduces himself, and she turns her sword on him. They do the traditional hero/villain question and answer portion. Seems like Pan wants to play. He offers her a map to find her son, telling her that she's the only one that can find him. The map is blank, but he tells her that she'll be able to read the map when she stops denying who she is. Sounds like he's "fattening" her up for the slaughter. Will her "magic" be what he needs to save Neverland?
Hook doesn't like the sound of the game, and Regina thinks that its a trick, she of course wants to use magic. Hook is being a stickler for the rules, and the Charmings side with him. Snow believes that if its a game, then they can win.
Flashback to the past. Charming is against Snow leaving. She's filled with all kinds off doubt. Grumpy and the rest of the dwarves think Charming is nothing more than a thronedigger, and Charming alone is left to find another way. Enter Gold. He seeks his help to open Snow's eyes.
Gold on the island plays with his doll, which when he hears a noise gets scooped up by a hooded Belle. Belle, who is not suppose to be in Neverland at the moment. He's more than a little bit shocked to see her. She wonders if he can ever really become good, and just before they kiss, he realizes that she shouldn't be here.
Past Gold tells Charming that magic cannot make you believe, but can hide things. Charming, won't take no for an answer though, no matter the price. Charming goes to Snow with his answer: A magical weapon, which will show Regina who she really is.
Emma racks her brain to find the key to Pan's Map. She starts out with broad strokes of who she is, and the one thing that she is reluctant to say, she finally does "she's the savior." But the map remains blank, and Regina gets takes matters into her own hands, and cast a location spell on the map, which floats off to the one place Hook warned them to never go. Prodded on by Regina, Emma leads the way. I don't exactly hate all this camaraderie, but I'll admit I'm not loving it either.
"Belle" leads Gold to the edge. She asks him if he knows why he brought her to the island, and pushes him for the answer. She shows him the good in himself, and finally the truth comes out. He's still wrestling with Pan's offer, life. She tells him letting go of the past is the first step. The sins of the father do not need to be repeated by the Son, and Belle leaves the choice in Gold's hand. The doll he's been weeping over is the last thing he got from his father, and he's finally ready to let it go.
Regina feels Pan, and while Charming and Regina are ready to charge ahead, Hook reminds her that while he looks like a boy, he's a demon.
Past Charmings go on their quest. The weapon was forged by Merlin in Camelot. Excalibur sits within a stone ripe for the taking, though Charming is not the one meant to free the blade. He tells Snow of the legend and urges her to give it a try. She pulls the blade free easily, and just like that her faith is restored.
The group searches, and find nothing at first. Thinking that its Henry they go charging down, and Pan tsks a bit over broken rules before surrounding them with his lost boys. Cheaters may never win, but Pan's playing with a skewed set of rules, that not likely to yield the results Emma desires no matter how they play. Hook cautions the group about Arrows, and Charming comes out of nowhere to save Snow getting himself shot in the process. Hook does battle against the "lead" boy, and name drops Rufio. Anyone else chanting "Rufio Rufio" now? Emma nearly kills another lost boy but can't do it when Pan calls off his hoodlums, and tells her that once she stops denying who she is, she'll be able to find Henry.
Past Regina seeks out Snow for her answer, and Snow draws her line in the sand. Regina goes to kill a dwarf, and Snow draws her blade on her, slicing her cheek. She's ready to fight, really ready now.
Snow checks on Charming, who claims that only his jacket was destroyed. Emma's frustrations grow over the map, and she finally opens up to Snow. She stopped with the boy because she saw herself in him. The scared, lonely self that grew up without her parents, the orphan that wasn't loved, or wanted. With her heartbreaking confession, the map reveals itself.
Past Snow seeks out Gold, she's willing to pay Charming's debt. Gold claims that there was no deal, he gave the prince nothing. Excalibur was a fake. He takes her necklace as payment for his time, and nothing more. Charming gets a begrudging apology from the dwarves, which may have been delivered too soon. An upset Snow confronts Charming, but though the sword was fake, what was inside of Snow, was not.
Emma sounds the horn, the map is working. Charming is ready for a new plan of attack, and although they're ready to turn the tables on Pan, Regina isn't firmly in their corner. Hook is curious as to how the map was unlocked, but Emma isn't ready to spill the beans to him.
Gold stumbles across the doll he tossed away. And ready to continue with the new leaf he turned over he sets fire to it, and even stomps on it, only to find another just up ahead. This one he tucks away though.
Pan comes across Emma picking some berries. He's ready to pour some salt into her open wound. Just as she's not ready to forgive the Charmings, he tells her that Henry isn't ready to forgive her either. That when they finally find him he won't want to come. And furthermore, Pan tells her that she won't just feel like an orphan when he's done with her, she'll be on. Dun dun dun! And then of course tredging through the dark jungle, Charming rips aside his shirt, his side has a long gash on it, from the arrow he save Snow from. So his jacket wasn't the only casualty, if he doesn't speak up soon he'll be one too, unless he turns to Hook and lets him save him.
So next week we finally get to see Tinkerbell! Who's excited? I for one am, and I'm hoping she and Hook cross more than paths.
