Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. S2E14 - "Love in the Time of Hydra" Recap

Ward and Agent 33 are still teamed up after she saved him in Puerto Rico after Skye had shot him. They hold up a diner to kidnap the man who had created the technology that made the mask that is now stuck on her face to make her look like a (now disfigured) May. He helps repair her mask so she no longer looks disfigured. The mask can't be removed but she can take on the appearance of anyone she likes and it can hold up to 3 faces in its database at a time.

Simmons and Fitz argue over how to proceed with Skye and the arguing makes her shake the plane slightly so she heads back to the cage. May believes that her ex is right and Skye should be pulled from active duty for the time being. Coulson is reluctant but eventually agrees and takes Skye to a safe house. On the way there, Coulson shares the story of how his father had him fix up a car that later became Lola. At the safe house, he gives her some gloves that are designed to help her repress her abilities, and advises her to take some time off to learn to better control her new abilities.

Mack introduces Hunter to Robert Gonzales, the later of the "real S.H.I.E.L.D.", which was founded on the ideal of transparency instead of Fury's mantra of compartmentalisation. They think Fury kept too many secrets. They don't approve of Coulson or his team. Hunter is hurt by the fact that Bobbi is part of this group. This group tries to bring Hunter on board, listing Coulson's many so-called indiscretions and that this alien DNA he's been injected with has only worsened him.

Agent 33 offers herself up to Ward by taking on the appearance of Skye and Ward pushes her off, saying that he has already tried to make it work with Skye but that shot to his torso made it pretty clear that she doesn't feel the same. Ward suggests that maybe he and Agent 33 could have something together but it would need to be as herself. But she becomes upset because Whitehall had tortured everything she knew about herself out of her. They decide to go after Bakshi, who is trapped in Talbot's base, who knows things about Agent 33 from before. They're able to break out Bakshi and have him share what he knows about Agent 33's life before she was brainwashed. Her name is revealed to be Kara. Once Bakshi has been drained of information, they proceed to brainwash him.

Fitz tells Simmons that she is the one that is scared, particularly since both he and Skye have now changed. Coulson's team learns from Talbot about Ward and Agent 33 breaking into the base and taking Bakshi. Coulson promises that they will help to find them. Coulson and May both realise that Mack is up to something and are determined to figure out what it is. Hunter has escaped from this other version of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Bobbi decides to attack Coulson's group immediately.
