Twisted Terror Convention Opens Strong
Leave your comic books at home, because as the name implies TWISTED
TERROR CON is all about the screams. A new addition to Sacramento,
this horror infused convention has brought not just current horror
faves, but also our heroes from the past.
For its inaugural convention it boasts a good guest list. There's Gil
Gerard and Erin Gray from BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY, Kevin
Tenney, the director of 80s classics WITCHBOARD and NIGHT OF THE
DEMONS, Sean Whalen of PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS, Josh Stewart from THE
DARK KNIGHT RISES, Nicholas Brendon from BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER,
Kyla Kennedy and Chandler Riggs of THE WALKING DEAD. There are many
more guests scheduled as well, but these just happen to be my
favorites.
In addition, there will of course be dealers galore, as well as a
film festival in the screening room.
Being the first day of the convention, and rainy out it was a pretty
good turn out. The big headliner was obviously Chandler Riggs. He
doesn't come out often, in fact, this was his very first West Coast
appearance, and the girls definitely came out to see him. With
minimal security on hand, he wore a look of concern most of the time,
but was very sweet when posing for pictures and signing autographs.
However, unlike his very chatty co-star Kyla, he remained mostly
tight lipped. He was dressed very Carl, just missing the trademark hat.
Nicholas Brendon is always a stop, when he's in town. As a fan
favorite from Buffy, and a frequent con guest, he's always up for
chatting, hugs, and pictures.
Sean Whalen was remarkably chatty as well, and surprisingly my little
one had to get a picture of him. He's really great with kids, though
I'm not sure how many of them approach him. I remember him most for
his scary turn as Roach in People Under the Stairs, though she knows
him only as Mantooth from Wizards of Waverly Place. He even did the
Ooogy Ooogy Boo for her.
The one guest who may have been the favorite was sweet little Kyla
Kennedy. With her gushing mom by her side, she told the story of her
casting as the ill-fated Mika, and how the part was originally meant
for a boy, but they changed the role after her audition.
Tomorrow marks the close of this con, so if you're in the Sacramento
Area, its definitely one to check out. There's no word yet if they'll
be back for 2015, but its certainly a hope. Also, to close out its
first weekend there will be a raffle. The prize is a Twisted Terror
Con program signed by all of the special guests, as well as a
leather “skeleton” motorcycle jacket signed by horror master and
metal legend Rob Zombie and his beautiful muse and wife Sheri Moon
Zombie!
The Twisted Terror Con takes place March 29th and 30th, 2014 at the
DoubleTree by Hilton in Sacramento, CA.
