Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. S1E17 - "Turn, Turn, Turn" Recap
Agent Garrett is flying over the clouds and is flanked by two other aircrafts. He radios to check that they are friendly but instead, they fire missiles at them. He's able to employ evasive maneuvers that make the missiles hit each other but he then rises up to see that the two aircrafts are S.H.I.E.L.D. drones.
The team is still holding May at gunpoint and she reveals that the line went direct to Nick Fury, who she has been reporting to but can't reveal more under his orders. Fitz tells him he was trying to find an encrypted line of his own so he could talk to Simmons at the Hub. Coulson has May begin looking into the system to try to find where the plane is headed and who Simmons is talking to - if it's not someone they trust, she may be in serious danger.
Agent Triplett visits Simmons in the Hub lab she is working in. Triplett asks what she's working on but Simmons is evasive about what she is doing. He tells her Agent Blake was crushed by Deathlok and that she didn't mention GH 325. Blood is on her hands if she chose to hide it. She closes the door and says that people died to keep the secret and that's why she's trying to keep the research quiet. She wants to upload Skye's scans and contact Agent Weaver at S.H.I.E.L.D. academy for help. He says his level six clearance will get her access to a secure line and that if they are questioned, they should let him do the talking because she is a bad liar.
Skye tells the team there is noise across all S.H.I.E.L.D. channels. Garret's voice comes through the come and telsl them about the drones. Coulson tranquillises May, has Fitz get to work on rewiring the Bus' weapons and asks Skye to decode the signal. Coulson puts May in cuffs and into the holding room with Ward, telling him she is a sleeper. Fitz gets the weapons live and Coulson gets a shot out that takes out a drone. He's then able to take out the other drone.
Garrett boards the Bus. Hand plans to kill him with the rest of Coulson's team when they land. skye decrypts the code and finds that the message says, "Out of the shadows, into the light. Hydra." They realise that Hand must be working for Hydra and are amazed that it has been able to infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D. Hand is trying to find Triplett and Simmons but they're trying to establish communication with Weaver. Weaver is panicking and tells Simmons to get to safety and that Hydra has taken over. She also advises her not to trust anyone. Triplett locks the door and gives her a knife, saying that if she tries to kill him, it will mean he can't trust her.
May wakes and tells Ward that she can't tell him anything until Fury gives her permission. They argue about killing innocent people and when she brings up the false-Clairvoyant. He says it was to protect Skye and it would have been right were it not for the fact that it was the wrong person. Coulson comes in and says they've fixed May's line. May is brought to the cockpit and calls Fury, but a different person answers and says that Fury is dead. It's then that bullets begin firing into the Bus.
Coulson patches up a wound in May and she admits she knew about Tahiti. She also reveals that she was the one who assembled their team by determining what was needed and giving the assessment to Fury. She tells him she did it to protect him and that he means a lot to her. She assures him she has nothing to do with Hydra or the Clairvoyant. The firing stops but Hydra will send a strike team to get the Bus.
Ward brings up all the potentially dangerous information they've collected and stored on the hard drive. They back it up and wipe the hard drive clean. Soldiers burst in on Triplett and Simmons and hold them at gunpoint. The strike team boards the bus but Coulson and his team have already escaped through the bottom. Skye gives Ward the backup drive to Ward so he can protect it. They split off from the team while May remains cuffed.
Hand explain Hydra's infiltration of S.H.I.E.L.D. and tells them to swear loyalty to Hydra or die like Fury. Triplett attacks a soldier and Hand tells him that was the right answer. Her team drops their guns; they were testing Simmons and Triplett to make sure they were loyal to S.H.I.E.L.D. However, Hand believes Coulson is part of Hydra.
Coulson and May appear to have been captured but Garrett brings them into the Hub security room and they take out the men. Fitz gets to work on finding Simmons. Hand says that Blake was suspicious of Coulson and other level 8 agents were part of a conspiracy and then he ended up dead on the op Coulson sent him on. She lists all his crimes and says that S.H.I.E.L.D. must be as ruthless as Hydra and learn to strike first.
Ward and Skye are hiding out. Ward needs to clear the pathway for her to get to the computer and he very well may die when doing so. He says he may deserve it for killing an innocent man, though he did it for her. He asks her to get a drink with him if they both survive, wanting to take her up on her offer of talking. She admits she knew about his relationship with May and agrees to get a drink with him. she kisses him before he heads out and unleashes all his Wardly abilities to take out the men. He comes back in and asks Skye if she's ready to hack the system. She then reveals she has a bomb. "Who said anything about hacking?"
Garrett is telling Coulson he wants to kill Hand without questioning her but Coulson doesn't agree with this plan. Garrett lists everything she did as the Clairvoyant, including brainwashing like the girl in the flower dress. Coulson says he never told anyone about Raina being in the machine. He realises that Garrett showed up right after Skye was shot, so he was leading the Clairvoyant to the cure. Garrett is the Clairvoyant. Soldier burst in and Coulson tells them to arrest Garrett. Garrett says that Agent Sitwell filled the soldiers' ranks so some of them should know what to do. Four of the soldiers kill the rest of them. Garrett shouts "Hail Hydra" and the remaining soldiers repeat it back.
Coulson notes that Garrett's dead men must have asked the wrong (or right) questions. Garrett says that he sense a changing tide and wanted to be on the right side. Garrett tells his men to shoot Coulson and his team but it's then that the lights begin to flicker. Skye's explosion goes off and the power goes out. May takes on the soldiers and Coulson fights Garrett. One soldier pulls his gun on May but Fitz shoots him from under a table. Garrett gets the upper hand on Coulson but Fitz slides him a device that takes Garrett down. Hand bursts in with her men and she tells Coulson they heard everything so they know Coulson and his team are not Hydra.
S.H.I.E.L.D. arrests Garrett and Triplett screams at him for his dead comrades. Ward is shocked and Coulson informs him of this new development. Hand tells Coulson about the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Hand says she will be going to the Fridge, as it is still secure. Garrett will be put in an Icebox cell there and Ward says he wants to go with her and "turn the key." He wants to see Garrett suffer for what he has done. Hand agrees to let him come along. She says to Coulson that they might be the highest ranking agents left and gives him a communicator with which they will stay in touch.
Hand and Ward lead Garrett off. Coulson gets back to the Bus and tells the team to begin patching up the Bus. May asks if she's still wanted on board and he tells her that although she's not a friend, she is an ally. On board the aircraft, Hand is considering shooting Garrett or perhaps having Ward do it. He stands up, loads his weapon, pauses, and then shoots the guards and then Agent Hand. Garrett smirks at Ward, who merely nods. At the episode's end, instead of the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo, the Hydra logo flashes instead.
Finally, we see Garrett recapping old battle tales and Ward stares at Hand's body, saying nothing.
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs on Tuesdays on ABC at 8PM.
It appears you strictly give a recap with no personal opinions or thoughts included. I'm starting to feel like the only person who can't comprehend Garrett being the Clairvoyant. I’m catching up…watched S1E17 “Turn, Turn, Turn” a few days ago…two months after seeing Captain America 2: Winter Soldier…and I am still trying to wrap my mind around Garrett being the Clairvoyant. I’m looking for an article or blog that talks about him more. I feel the need to rewatch older episodes. How on earth could he have known all that “The Clairvoyant” knew earlier in the season??) Great recap. I’m going to watch S1E18 “Providence” and S1E19 “Only Light In The Darkness” later tonight.
