Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. S3E2 - "Purpose in the Machine" Recap

Dr. Andrew Garner does an evaluation of Gutierrez and determines that he is not yet ready to join the Secret Warriors. His ex-wife, May, is still on leave from S.H.I.E.L.D. and is tracked down by Hunter, who is eventually able to convince her to return and help him with his mission. His mission is to hunt down and take out Ward, who has been working to rebuild Hydra from the ground up. Ward sends Werner von Strucker, Strucker's son, to go undercover as a student taking Garner's psychology class.

Meanwhile, Fitz realises that the Monolith can act as a portal and thus reaches out to Asgardian Elliot Randolph to help him.  Elliot takes them to an ancient English castle where a machine had previously been constructed to open the Monolith by using vibrations. With Daisy's Inhuman abilities, he is able to recreate the machine's capabilities, albeit with some injuries received by doing so. Fitz quickly jumps into the portal and is able to find Simmons and bring her back just in time as the Monolith succumbs to Daisy's power.
