Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. S05E16 "Inside Voices" Recap

Hale has Coulson placed into isolation for his refusal to cooperate with her wishes. Hale orders Creel to attempt to absorb the gravitonium and upon being exposed to it he sees flashes of Franklin Hall. He realises that the gravitonium is alive upon being separated from it.

Fitz struggles to come to terms with Deke being his and Simmons' grandson. Deke visits him in his holding cell and says that he understands why he made such a powerfully violent move against Daisy, who has become increasingly tough and no-nonsense since the traumatic encounter. Simmons talks with Deke once more and is reassured that she and Fitz will at least live long enough to get to the Lighthouse and have a child.

Simmons and Daisy disagree on whether or not to release Fitz from his holding cell. Daisy will be leaving on a long mission to try to find Coulson. Yo-yo agrees to team up with Simmons to try to get Fitz out but they will have to get past Mack, who is the one left in charge while Daisy is away and under strict orders not to let Fitz out.

Creel struggles with the turmoil and anguish from being exposed to the gravitonium so he visits Coulson in order to team up to break out. They also team up with Talbot, whose mental state is highly shaken after the extensive torture Hale has ordered on him.

Daisy and May find Robin, who is still a child in this year, and hasn't been drawing her visions ever since she saw her own death in the future. When she sees May again, she resumes drawing since she has had visions of May being an adopted mother of her. One of her drawings shows Coulson and Talbot located up in the mountains where they're being kept.

Back at the Lighthouse, Simmons and Yo-yo come up with a plan to trick Mack into releasing Fitz and locking him up in the cell in his place. They are certain that they need Fitz's intellect in order to pursue leads on Hydra's gravitonium-powered weapon.

As Creel, Coulson, and Talbot being their escape, Hale orders Ruby to go after them with strict orders that Creel needs to stay alive. While Coulson is making his escape, he collapses and Creel has to use his abilities to shock his chest to restart his heart. As the trio are preparing to make their escape, Ruby and some cyborg-soldiers catch up to them and begin to open fire under Ruby's orders. Ruby continues to pursue them and eventually Creel volunteers to stay behind and fight Ruby off which gives Coulson and Talbot the means to escape by using the Confederacy's teleportation device. Ruby declares that she is the Destroyer of Worlds, much to Hale's satisfaction. Hale then tells her to go after Coulson and Talbot.

A flashback to four years ago shows that Raina had tricked Ian Quinn into being absorbed by the gravitonium.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs on Fridays on ABC at 9/8c.

Gotham S04E17 "Mandatory Brunch Meeting" Recap

Bruce arrives at St. Ignatius too late to save a man booby-trapped by Jervis Tetch to blow himself up. But the man stays alive long enough to say that Jerome was looking for someone that graduated from there ten years ago named Xander Wilde. Jim and Harvey arrive at the institute just before the man blows himself up.

Meanwhile, Jerome has assembled the "Legion of Horribles" which consists of himself, Penguin, Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, Firefly, and Mr. Freeze. He shares how they need to find this Wayne Enterprises associate, Xander Wilde. Jerome invades a Wayne Enterprises building and shoots it up with a shotgun but he's forced to escape without getting the information he needs on Xander Wilde because the GCPD show up including Jim and Harvey.

Lee Thompkins challenges Riddler to his game, the Riddle Factory, with a promised wager that she will abolish it if she wins. She is able to outsmart him and figure out the answer to his riddle. Then she needs to come up with a riddle for him to answer and when the answer is "I love you," Riddler refuses to say it because he is concerned it will wake Ed up.

Bruce and Alfred team up with Jim and Harvey in order to track down the location of Xander Wilde. They deduce that he must be hiding from Jerome specifically. What they don't realise is that Xander has kidnapped Jerome and has him trapped in a concrete cell with surveillance cameras to monitor him as well as the surrounding area to the lair. Once Jim and Harvey drive up, Xander spots them on one of his cameras. They speak to Xander through an intercom to say they're there to see him. A woman leads them to Xander's office where they meet him and discover that he is Jerome's twin brother, Jeremiah. He shares how his mother snuck him away from the circus and sent him to St. Ignatius. It was inevitable that some day Jerome would come for him. Jim and Harvey figure out that Jeremiah has kidnapped Jerome. Jeremiah doesn't want to give up the location of Jerome to Jim and Harvey but before they can argue any further about whether he'll release Jerome, Mad Hatter and Scarecrow arrive to break Jerome out. Jeremiah reveals that he designed the place like a maze and he is the only one that can get them out. Echo, Jeremiah's assistant, tries to take Jeremiah captive after being hypnotized by Jervis Tetch. Jim and Harvey are able to knock her out. Jeremiah makes it to the exit only to be cornered by Jerome, Jervis, and Scarecrow. Jerome orders them to find Jim and Harvey and kill them. Jerome and Jeremiah have an argument in which Jeremiah admits that he lied to their mother about him trying to kill him as a boy which lead to him being sent away. Jeremiah insists that he wanted to regardless of whether he had actually tried to do so yet. Jerome is angry that their mother gave up on treating him well after she believed he had tried to kill his brother which lead to him eventually killing her. Jim and Harvey charge after Jim and Scarecrow and they must flee with Jerome without harming Jeremiah.

Oswald convinces Grundy to join the Legion of Horribles as hired muscle in exchange for access to the chemicals that turned him into Grundy. He agrees because he wants to be Butch again so he can be with Tabitha.

Lee confronts Riddler for why he would open a club in the Narrows, pointing out that he clearly wanted her attention. She confronts him for the love he has for her and he responds by holding a knife to her throat. She proposes that they work together and then they kiss.

Jim and Harvey bring Jeremiah back to the station and order he be put into protective custody. Jeremiah thanks Jim for saving his life.

Finally, Scarecrow is shown to have developed a laughing gas that Jerome intends to spread across the city to turn everyone mad.

Krypton S01E03 "The Rankless Initiative" Recap

The Val hologram is connected to the Fortress system and is able to scan Brainiac's probe, informing Seg and Adam that it has carried a sentry to infect a host on Krypton. When they open the probe they find that the sentry has already been released. Three days earlier, the probe was sent out and landed on Krypton.

Seg and Adam set out to search for the probe. While on their respective tasks to find it, Seg confronts Lyta about her recent combat and is more understanding of her killing someone when she explains why she felt the need to take command. The probe was found by a woman named Rhom looking to make money to feed her daughter so she sells it to a merchant on the black market.

The Sagitari are beginning their task of processing the tankless in order to search for Black Zero agents. Lyta orders the members of her squadron to not use excessive force while they begin their work.

Adam discovers the sentry probe and steals it back to bring it back to Seg and Kem. However, the sentry is already gone from inside and has infected Rhom. As the Sagitari have already begun their processing, an infected Rhom begins to attack soldiers after they separate her from her daughter and the infection kicks in within her. While Kem hides Rhom's daughter to keep her safe, Rhom begins killing soldiers.

The Sagitari disregard Lyta's orders and excessive force is used to coerce information about the dead soldiers. Officer Kol-Da kills an unarmed man and Lyta reacts by arresting her. Seg is able to use a shock grenade from Lyta to take down Rhom, who has been fully infected to the point of being unable to be saved or cured. She has been gathering data about Krypton and transmitting it to Brainiac.

Later Seg tells Lyta about Val being right about his theories regarding their not being along in the universe and there being a threat coming for their planet. They agree to work together to defend Krypton without the Council getting in the way of them. Rhom is still barely alive following the shock she was subjected to but Val scans her and determines that Brainiac's modifications are what's keeping her alive. Now she is serving as a tracker that Brainiac is using to come to Krypton.

Krypton airs on Wednesdays on Syfy at 10/9c.

Black Lightning S01E11 "Black Jesus: the Book of Crucifixion" Recap

Black Lightning and Thunder raid another location in the hopes of finding the bodies of the missing children. They are working with Gambi again, who is still on the mend and trying to make amends for his past wrongs.

Vice-Principal Kara Fowdy tells a scientist to keep a careful watch over the stasis pods to keep them stable but one of the teenagers form 30 years ago still dies. Fowdy also gets Deputy Chief Cayman to orchestrate a frame job so Jefferson can get arrested for (false) possession of Greenlight. Fowdy later gets into an online chat with her bosses and is informed that there are federal agents will take Jefferson to the black site in order to test him on whether he is actually Black Lightning.

Lynn heads to the station and tries to see Jefferson but isn't permitted. She briefly encounters Inspector Henderson and implores him to find a way to get Jefferson released. Lynn heads out to try to find a lawyer that can work on Jefferson's case. Henderson acts out an interrogation with Jefferson, secretly warning him that they're being taped so they have to play out a facade. He asks him questions about his daughters being kidnapped by Lala. Their questioning is interrupted by Cayman who says that there's a transfer order from the feds claiming it's a matter of national security so they have to abide by it.

Anissa wants to break Jefferson out but Gambi reminds her that if he wanted to be broken out he is more than capable of doing that himself with his own powers. They must find a way to fool the ASA into thinking Jefferson isn't Black Lightning. Gambi works together with Thunder to run an operation in which Thunder will chase after a remote-controlled car that Gambi is operating alongside a hologram of Black Lightning to make the conspirators believe that Black Lightning is still free and out in the city. After seeing the story of Black Lightning seemingly running around the city, Fowdy requests that Jefferson be released but her boss refuses to give her permission to do anything else but monitor and facilitate.

Henderson is able to use his investigation into the corruption in his department to get one of the officers arrested. He also gets the officer to rat out the others. This allows Henderson to get Jefferson released and Cayman arrested for his many corruptions. Jefferson is fully exonerated from his charges and Henderson is sworn in as the new Deputy Chief of Police. Later, Gambi is invited to join the Pierce family for dinner to celebrate Jefferson's return to freedom.

Black Lightning airs on Tuesdays on the CW at 9/8c.

Shadowhunters S03E03 "What Lies Beneath" Recap

Jace continues to struggle with visions of Jonathan tormenting him. Clary becomes worried by how hard he is pushing himself, even forgoing sleep in the process. Seven mundanes have been killed in the last 48 hours and Jace finally theorises that the so-called owl-faced demon they've spotted on surveillance footage is a glamour being used by Jonathan.

Simon realises that the mark the Seelie Queen marked onto his face has some sort of unknown power so she decides to return to the Seelie Realm to get answers about what it is.

Raphael spends time with Rosa, an elderly woman that is his last remaining relative. When he was alive, he was her older brother. He also struggles to deal with Heidi, a newly turned vampire that is acting up with very little impulse control about her hunger and abilities. She makes demands to be let go and to meet her sire but Raphael gives her a potent sedative to knock her out and keep her under control.

Jace and Clary still disagree about the demon being Jonathan. She believes he is truly dead and Jace decides to finally tell her about the nightmares he's been having. He believes that Jonathan will emerge on an upcoming mission in order to finish what he started.

Raphael gets the news that his sister Rosa has died, leaving him devastated. He won't be able to attend her funeral because it will be happening during the day and Isabelle offers to attend it on his behalf.

Clary confides in Isabelle about her concerns about Jace's lack of sleep and his paranoia about Jonathan. Isabelle decides to come with them on the upcoming mission, leaving Alec and Magnus alone to have dinner with Alec's mother. She reveals that the investigation has been reopened into former Circle members because of Malachi's coup. As a result, the Clave has reclassified her as a traitor. Her runes will be stripped in a few day and then she will be exiled from Alicante. She shares how she was the one to recruit many people because she believed Valentine was the answer and didn't leave until she realised how wrong she was. Despite Alec's outrage at the punishment she is being dealt, she insists that the punishment is just. Alec wants to step down from his position but his mother insists that he stay put and be better than those from her generation were. She apologises to Magnus for her past prejudices against him and asks Alec not to tell Isabelle and Jace, since she wants to tell them herself.

Simon tries to ask Raphael for information about the Daylighter legend but Raphael is too distraught to want to help or talk. The tension escalates until Raphael tries to attack Simon and the mark projects a protective blast that knocks Raphael back. Simon later tries to get into the Seelie Realm but finds that he is locked out, though Maia promises to help him find the answers he is looking for.

Jace is at the club accompanied by Clary and Isabelle. They are all keeping an eye out. Isabelle is momentarily distracted when a hot doctor she previously had a flirtation with approaches her to ask for her number. Jace has a confrontation with Jonathan, though it still remains uncertain if those are just hallucinations. Clary and Isabelle realise that Morgan, the mundane they were supposed to be guarding, has gone missing. They find her phone broken and follow the sounds of her screaming outside where she is being attacked by the owl-faced demon. They are too late to stop Morgan from being possessed. Isabelle takes off chasing her while Clary faces off against the demon. She tells the demon to show their face, calling them Jonathan. The demon appears intrigued by the mention of this name and lets Clary go before flying off.

Luke visits Simon and delivers the bad news that he can no longer stay there because of the recent manifestations of his powers and the harm they caused to the wolves.

Raphael returns to his place and learns that Heidi has attacked another vampire there and escaped.

Morgan is locked up at the Institute to protect herself and others. Isabelle and Clary are uncertain where Jace is since he has been missing since they lost him at the club. Isabelle tells Clary that the demon isn't Jonathan because she got her whip on it and the electrum didn't react. Finally, the owl-faced demon is revealed to be Jace who doesn't seem to be aware while working in a sort of trance. However, the blood is being collected in an effort to revive Jonathan.

Shadowhunters airs on Tuesdays on Freeform at 8/7c.

Renaida's Underdog Success in Melodifestivalen

Photo: Lizel Strömberg (ZEL Photography)

Renaida saw a moderate amount of success on Swedish Idol, after which she debuted in Melodifestivalen with an absolute banger of a song, "All The Feels." With a powerful energy and charisma as a performer, she defied the odds in order to qualify to the Andra Chansen round and then win her duel to make it to the finals. Throughout these competitive efforts, Renaida was also working as 'Jasmine' in a Swedish version of the Aladdin musical. Though she is in many ways a newcomer, she displays all the potential to be one of the biggest, hottest exports from the Swedish pop industry.

Melodifestivalen 2018 Top 28: #23 “Livet på en pinne” — Edward Blom

Photo: Lizel Strömberg (ZEL Photography)

Edward Blom brought an entirely self-aware charm and levity to Melodifestivalen, with a number that channelled his signature love of food and beverage, as well as an old-school style of music more classic than today's radio-pop songs that comprise the majority of the line-up. His own words, "I know some people [like] me but I can't sing" neatly sum up the performance. But the staging and production value, as well as the cohesion between the concept and execution was more effective than some of the more contemporary entries.
