NETFLIX & CHILLS
Netflix’s mega block of chills, thrills, and everything else of the other-worldly variety moderated by Josh Horowitz featured the casts of The Umbrella Academy, The Haunting of Hill House and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and a first look at The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

The Umbrella Academy Panel:
Panelists (L-R): Ellen Page, Emmy Raver Lampman, David Castañeda, Tom Hopper, Aidan Gallagher, Robert Sheehan, Mary J. Blige, and Cameron Britton.

DATE ANNOUNCEMENT:  It was announced out of NYCC that The Umbrella Academy will launch globally on Netflix on February 15, 2019.

SERIES SYNOPSIS:
On the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his "children" to save the world. But not everything went according to plan. In their teenage years, the family fractured and the team disbanded. Now, the six surviving thirty-something members reunite upon the news of Hargreeves’ passing. Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Vanya, and Number Five work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father's death. But the estranged family once again begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.

The Umbrella Academy is based on the popular, Eisner award-winning comics and graphic novels created and written by Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance), illustrated by Gabriel Bá, and published by Dark Horse Comics. The live-action series stars Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, David Castañeda, Aidan Gallagher, Cameron Britton, and Mary J. Blige, and is produced by Universal Cable Productions for Netflix. Steve Blackman (Fargo, Altered Carbon) will serve as executive producer and showrunner, with additional executive producers Jeff F. King (Hand of God), Bluegrass Television, and Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg from Dark Horse Entertainment. Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá will serve as co-executive producers.

The Haunting of Hill House:
Fans were able to catch the first glimpse of the Bent Neck Lady ghost in the flesh.  We had ten of the Bent Neck Lady ghosts appear in darkness on the stage, gather together before walking-through the audience inviting them to a midnight screening of the first episode tonight at The Highline Hotel’s Hoffman Hall.

Panelists (L-R): Michiel Huisman, Elizabeth Reaser, Carla Gugino, Henry Thomas, Kate Siegel, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Victoria Pedretti

Series Synopsis:
A modern reimagining of Shirley Jackson's iconic novel, The Haunting of Hill House explores a group of siblings who, as children, grew up in what would go on to become the most famous haunted house in the country. Now adults, and forced back together in the face of tragedy, the family must finally confront the ghosts of their past -- some of which still lurk in their minds while others may actually be stalking the shadows of Hill House. Created, directed and executive-produced by horror mastermind Mike Flanagan (Hush, Oculus, Gerald’s Game), The Haunting of Hill House is a complex family drama wrapped in a chilling horror story.

Trevor Macy serves as executive producer alongside Flanagan. Meredith Averill acts as co-showrunner and executive producer. Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank executive produce, as well.  The series debuts on Netflix October 12.

The Dark Crystal: The Age Of Resistance
Fans in attendance got the first look at the prequel series, coming in 2019.
Panelists: Executive Producer Lisa Henson, Director Louis Leterrier

Series Synopsis:
Based on The Dark Crystal, Jim Henson’s groundbreaking 1982 feature film, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance tells a new epic story, set many years before the events of the movie, and realized using classic puppetry with cutting edge visual effects. The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina:
Panelists: (L-R) Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Creator/EP), Kiernan Shipka, Ross Lynch, Lucy Davis, Miranda Otto, Michelle Gomez, Chance Perdomo

The wickedly fun panel featured a surprise “witching hour” drop of the first episode for fans! The series launches October 26.

Series Synopsis:
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, starring Kiernan Shipka, imagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit. Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who also serves as chief creative officer of Archie Comics, penned the script for the series. Aguirre-Sacasa executive produces alongside Riverdale collaborators Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater and Lee Toland Krieger. The drama hails from Warner Bros. Television-based Berlanti Productions.
