Hannibal makes himself a gourmet breakfast while we see Will served a tray of subpar "food." Hannibal has breakfast with Jack and they discuss Bella's recent suicide attempt. Jack is grateful to Hannibal for saving her and Hannibal says he couldn't let her die, as a doctor.

Freddie heads inside the observatory and holds a gun. She takes photos of what we can assume will be a crime scene. When Jack arrives, Freddie advises him to not go in, saying, "She's one of yours." Jack ignores her and goes up, where he finds Beverly sliced vertically into at least six slices, with each slice being separated between plastic barriers. Jack reports back that Freddie called in after receiving an anonymous tip. He tells his staff about Beverly's murder and informs them that she will be honoured at FBI headquarters.

Alana and Jack visit Will to tell him what has happened and he briefly hallucinates seeing Beverly in the room with them. He tells them he wants to see her. He is strapped into a straitjacket and has a mask put on him before being loaded onto a truck. When he arrives at the death scene, Freddie snaps photos of him from afar. Once Will is brought up to where the pieces of Beverly are, Jack orders everyone to leave them alone. He unstraps Will from the board, pulls him up, removes the straitjacket and finally undoes the face mask, all while holding a gun in his hand. Jack leaves him alone and Will has a vision of Beverly, who tells him to interpret the evidence.

The pieces all move together until a fully-formed Beverly stands before Will. He reaches out to touch her and walks behind her where he begins to strangle her. He says that she knows the killer and the killer knows her, as they look into each other's eyes. she is rendered unconscious and then the body is frozen so she can be cleanly dismantled. The body cuts like stone. She is pulled apart, layer by layer and then the crime scene is established. No useable evidence is left behind, but Beverly found the killer. Whatever she found is gone. The killer has taken something from her.

Jack returns and says it's the Chesapeake River. Will tells him that the Ripper and the Copycat are the same killer. Beverly helped him see it. Will tells Jack that she was looking for a connection between the Ripper and Copycat and that she found something. He asks Jack where he was last night and he says he was the hospital. Will told Beverly to go to him and say what she knew but instead went looking for evidence and this was when she met the Ripper. She will be missing organs that were taken as trophies. Jack asks who he is and Will tells him that Beverly made her connection to the Ripper and now Jack must make his own. Jack asks why he brought Will and Will says it was to say good-bye.

Chilton asks Will if he'd like to talk about what happened and Will scolds him for discussing his therapy session, going against their agreement. Chilton says it was just a peek before he shut the curtain. Chilton asks about Beverly's last visit and Will thinks he just listened in. Will says they talked about the Ripper. Chilton says the Ripper is intelligent with surgical experience. They both think that Gideon knows who the Ripper is and Will comments that it would be interesting if Chilton was the one to catch him.

The examination of the body finds that the kidneys in Beverly were not her own. They actually belong to Gray, the mural killer. If they can find the person who has the kidneys, they will have found their killer. Hannibal has Beverly's kidney and puts it through a meat grinder before cooking it into a meal.

Will is put into a cage next to another that contains Gideon. Will wants to talk about the Chesapeake Ripper and that Gideon is merely pretending to be him. Will tells him he remembers the night he tried to kill him and that Hannibal tried to kill him. He asks why Gideon is trying to protect Hannibal. Gideon says that the Ripper is the devil, smoke, and can't be caught. He tells Will if he wants him, he will have to kill him. Will replies, "Fair enough."

Hannibal and Chilton meet and discuss Gideon. Hannibal reminds Chilton that Gideon disemboweled him. They both have to hide their misdeeds and if either exposed the other, they would both lose. Chilton brought Gideon back because he believed it would help Will's therapy. Chilton wants to rebuild Will's broken brain. Hannibal asks to interview Gideon, seeing as how Chilton is analysing Will, Hannibal's patient.

Hannibal meets the caged Gideon. Gideon tells Hannibal he has never seen his face before and Hannibal introduces himself as Will's psychiatrist. Chilton listens in on the conversation. Gideon tells Hannibal that Will has a bone to pick with him. Hannibal says he wants to help. Freddie snaps photos of Hannibal as he leaves the hospital. He tells her she's being rude and should seek therapy. He asks why she's there and she says Will has requested to be interviewed by her. She is brought in by an orderly and ordered not to pass him anything but soft paper and to not take anything from him.

Will tells Freddie he has an admirer who killed the bailiff and judge in his trial. She asks if this admirer is crazy and Will says he is different. Freddie asks if Will is trying to catch or contact him. Will says he would like to establish a line of communication using her website. She's willing to do so in exchange for exclusive rights to his story. Will agrees and she says that he must send an invitation and pulls out a recorder.

Hannibal listens to the recording on her website. She says that Will believes the man wants to help and killed people in his name. Now he wants to know why. An orderly approaches Will, who figures out that this is the one who killed the bailiff. He tells Will that someone else had killed the judge. He knows that Chilton listens in to everything and turned it off before initiating this contact. Chilton lets Will out of the cage and Will asks him why he's helping him. The orderly says that they are hawks and to imagine how it would be if the hawks started walking together. He chains Will's hands and escorts him back to his cell. He asks why Will wanted to talk to him and Will says he needs a favour. The orderly says he's happy to do a favour for a friend and Will tells him he wants him to kill Hannibal Lecter. The orderly nods and walks off, past Gideon in another cell, who appears to have overheard the conversation.

Will hallucinates horns sprouting from his back that grow into a pair of antlers. He's brought of it by Alan who is visiting to ask why he allowed Freddie to interview him. She's worried and he tells her not to worry about him. She knows he wants to do something about Beverly and that there's no solution. Grief just is. She asks what he has done and he says, "What I had to do." Alan begins to leave and sees Gideon on the security cameras. She encounters Chilton, who grants her permission to see Gideon.

She asks how he knew where she lived the night he came to kill her. She says that someone coordinated it and they are both expendable. She says that Will isn't the Chesapeake Ripper and Gideon says, "Not yet." He goes on to say that Will has changed and wants revenge. He tells her he could have someone killed by whispering in someone's ear and Alana asks who Will would want killed.

Hannibal is swimming laps in a pool and the orderly jumps in to swim in the lane next to him. The orderly gets out and shoots a tranquilliser dart into Hannibal's back. Hannibal tries and fails to get it out, sinking into the pool. Alana and Jack search for Hannibal at his office but he's not there. They get a call about a trace on his cell phone.

Will imagines blood dripping from the sink in his cell. Hannibal is shown to be struggling to keep his balance standing on a bucket, while his arms are taped to a pole and a noose is around his neck. The orderly tells him about the origin of the phrase "kick the bucket." Hannibal has the choice to have the bucket kicked, or he can continue to bleed out. Hannibal tells him Will isn't who he thinks he is. Hannibal says Will is not a murderer and the orderly tells him that he is now, by proxy. Hannibal asks if Will asked him to do this and he says that that's what friends are for. He has some questions, which Hannibal agrees to answer. He asks if Hannibal killed the judge but Hannibal doesn't answer. The orderly then decides to only ask yes or no questions, knowing that if his pupils dilate, the answer is a yes. He first asks if Hannibal is the Chesapeake Ripper and Hannibal's pupil dilates. He asks how many times he's seen someone hanging onto a life worth living and Hannibal says that life is precious.

Jack and Alan arrive at the pool and head down to the basement. The orderly asks what people will call him (like "Chesapeake Ripper"). He says the Iroquois used to eat their enemies to gain their strength and that perhaps he will become the Ripper. Hannibal replies, "Only if you eat me." Hannibal sees Jack approaching. Jack tells the orderly to put his hands up, which he does, but then Hannibal lies and shouts that he has a gun, leading Jack to shoot him. The orderly won't go down without one last move - kicking the bucket out from beneath Hannibal's feet. Jack rushes forward to hold Hannibal up and keep him from suffocating. Alana comes down and Jack tells her to call an ambulance. Will sits in his cell and imagines blood overflowing from his sink.

Hannibal airs on Fridays on NBC at 10PM.

Will sees himself fly-fishing with Abigail, teaching her to tie a knot. Will comes to in his cell and is visited by Beverly. She tells him he was right about the killer being in the centre of the mural. Beverly theorises that James Gray had a partner that sewed him into the mural but Will tells her that Gray worked alone and that the killer would have had to have known him well enough to convince Gray to be part of the mural. Beverly asks who could have done that and Will says it was Hannibal. He says that Hannibal has no reason other than his own amusement and curiosity and asks Beverly to find a hidden clever detail. She says she will look for the detail, but not Hannibal. Will is fine with that as long as she is looking.

A bee flies into a hive that has formed on a corpse in a tree.

Will tells Chilton that he'll give him the same deal he gave Beverly. He knows Chilton has been recording him and that he is a hot topic in psychiatric circles. Will says that he is either a psychopath, delusional, or right about Hannibal Lecter and goads Chilton's curiosity. He is willing to allow Chilton to test him under the condition that he will not share any more information with Hannibal.

Bella has a session with Hannibal. She is sleeping 18 hours a day or not at all and vomiting up her stomach lining. Her best option at this point is pain management. She wants her life to end with dignity and she is considering ending it herself. He asks her how that makes her feel, to which she says, "alive." She asks him the same question and he says that the idea that his life could end at any moment frees him. He tells her that Socrates killed himself with the perspective that death was not defeat, but a cure.

The FBI are looking at the bee hive corpse. Jimmy tells Jack that the body has been there roughly two weeks. The eyes and part of the brain were removed to make room for the hive.

Beverly has Hannibal help her with an autopsy. She needs help figuring out who put Gray in the mural. She also tells him that she's pleased Will is no longer accusing Hannibal of being the murderer. She shares Will's theory that the killer may have hidden something. He takes a magnifying glass and looks over the stitching. He advises her to go deep beneath the skin to the understand the killer's pathology.

Chilton provides Will with a consent form for Will to be injected with sodium pentothal. Will asks him what drug would be used to induce memory loss. Chilton says that protein synthesis may be interrupted, certain skills are required, and a certain level of unorthodoxy. Will asks if Hannibal possesses those skills and tools and Chilton admits that he may be. Will signs the consent form and is injected. Will watches the lights flicker and sees Hannibal telling him to draw a clock. Chilton asks Will questions and Will sees Hannibal ignore the oddly drawn clocks before Hannibal's face becomes distorted. Will comes out of his vision and tells Chilton that Hannibal was inducing seizures and encouraging blackouts. Chilton says that this would only work under certain circumstances and Will mentions his encephalitis. Chilton looks unsettled and says that this would suggest a radically unorthodox therapy. Will agrees with him.

Hannibal visits the hospital and Chilton tells him that his appointment with Will has been cancelled. He says that after doing a narco-analytic interview, his opinion of Will is evolving. He says that he is now thinking Hannibal may have been driving Will to violence and reminds him that he is not the only shrink accused of this and that they have to stick together. I'm sorry, what?

Bella has some marijuana as part of her cancer treatment. Jack asks for some and when Bella asks about whether he will have drug testing, Jack merely says that he is supporting his wife. He tells her about a new treatment he recently read about. She tells him she watched her mother go through lung cancer and the severe pain she experience as the end neared. There will be a time that there will be nothing he can do. He promises to hang on to the good memories of her.

The man with the bee hive was a man named Duncan, who had been missing for six month. His white blood cell count was high when he died and puncture wounds show that he had been lobotomised. The killer appears to be religiously motivated.

An old man with arthritis pain is receiving treatment from a woman who supports the use of bee venom. She gives him small acupuncture treatment. He says that he can't feel anything and she says this is good. She pulls out a long spike and begins hammering it into his eye and then twisting it while smiling the whole while. Later, a little girl encounters the man walking in a park. When he is examined by the FBI medical team, they find he has empty eye sockets, there are lesions in his frontal lobe, and he is covered in bee stings. Beverly comes in and when the team says that the bee stings are hiding acupuncture marks, she has a revelation. She goes back to examine Gray's body and finds that the stitches are hiding stitches. She finds that Gray's kidney is missing.

Will is remembering things from his time with Hannibal. He sees Hannibal telling Dr. Gideon that Will is having a mild seizure. Hannibal asks Gideon if he is the man who claimed to be the Chesapeake Ripper. Hannibal says that he is not the actual killer and when Gideon asks if he is the ripper, Hannibal says that it's a terrible thing to have your identity taken from you. Will watches the entire scene from an outside perspective.

Beverly shows her findings to Will, who tells her he believes Hannibal to also be the Chesapeake Ripper. She tells him that she asked Hannibal to consult on the autopsy and Will warns her not to do that, as it puts herself in great danger. He asks her to bring it to Jack but she says she doesn't have enough to support the theory yet. The Chesapeake Ripper had a habit of taking trophies. Beverly asks Will what Hannibal is doing with them and Will has a realisation: "He's eating them."

The bee lady, named Catherine, is collecting honey when Jack, Jimmy, and Zeller come knocking on her door. They ask about her two former patients (the victims). They question her on what she was treating Duncan for and she says he had several immune deficiencies. She says he couldn't envision a dignified end so dying in a meadow with a head full of bees is nicer. None of them try the honey, including her, as it seems too morbid. She says she only quieted his mind and brought him to the field so he could die in peace. Lloyd had crippling arthritis and afterwards, she saw him walk pain-free for the first time in a long while. She says she protected them from hopelessness.

Bella visits Hannibal and he has to help her walk across the floor. After chemotherapy, she was so weak that Jack had to carry her across the threshold. She has brought Hannibal a gift - it's a special coin. She thanks him for showing her that death is not a defeat, but a cure. He asks what she has taken and she admits to having taken all her morphine. She didn't want to die at home, where Jack would find her and have to make the call, after which he'd have to wait with her body. She is slowly beginning to slip away and Hannibal tells her she has denied him his goodbye. She says she only denied him a painful goodbye and has allowed herself a peaceful one. She tells him to tell Jack that she loves him very much. She says goodbye to Hannibal and tears fall from her eyes as her limbs go limp. "Goodbye, Bella." Hannibal sits back and looks at Bella's body. He picks up the coin she gave him and flips it. When it lands, he stands up and retrieves a syringe from his cabinet. He sticks it in Bella's neck and she wakes. She is upset to find herself alive again.

Beverly is searching for Jack and is informed that he has gone to the hospital to be with his wife. She also learns that Hannibal is in the hospital. Bella wakes and is met by Jack who repeatedly tells her he is there. Hannibal is in the room and Bella asks him what he is doing there. He apologises and says he could not honour what she asked of him. He gives her back the coin and she slaps him, gasping from the exertion. She orders him out and he calmly leaves.

Beverly is searching Hannibal's place. First, she looks in the fridge and then she picks a lock to a room where she finds a meat cutter and a freezer filled with slabs of meat. She finds a kidney and then spots fluid on the floor. She discovers a secret room and upon turning on the light, she is horrified by what she sees. Hannibal is there and she shoots at him. He runs off and we hear more shots fired.

Hannibal airs on Fridays on NBC at 10PM.

Will envisions seeing himself in a chamber and the clock ticks down to his execution. The guard removes a mask from Will's face and Will flips the switch before watching himself fry. He is then woken and prepares for trial. We see Hannibal also dressing for the trial. The prosecutor discusses the Minnesota Shrike case and says that Will killed and ate Abigail, citing the ear. He talks about Will being the smartest one in the room (Hannibal rightfully smirks) and says that Will used his talents to create a profile for a murderer that acts his alibi.

Outside, Kade approaches Jack and tells him that he is not being impartial in regards to Will. She says that the evidence supports Will being a killer and that she understands his wanting to be a bad friend instead of someone who failed to see that killer was right in front of him. He is then brought in to testify. He speaks about how Will came to work for the FBI and that even though he didn't qualify to be an agent, he felt find about bringing him into the field under his supervision. The prosecution tries to say that Will enjoyed using the FBI but Jack says that Will hated working for them and admits that he was warned about the risks of pushing Will and he ignored the warning signs.

After this, Will and his lawyer sit in the courtroom. Will's lawyer tells him Jack helped their case and they need to create a desire to find him not guilty. The lawyer is handed an enveloped and upon opening it, red crumbs and a human ear falls out. He tells Will, "I think I opened your mail."

Hannibal serves Jack a brandy, and has one for himself, telling Jack he did a brave thing. Jack says he hasn't felt better in weeks, regardless of what consequences it may have. Hannibal asks if he intends to resign and Jack says that he has considered it but for now will simply let the chips fall where they may. Jack goes on to talk about his dying wife and how he is considering taking her to Italy where she can die more peacefully. Hannibal tells him that he is not the one who is sick and he doesn't need to go in the ground with her. He is telling Jack to not force an issue for the short-term emotional satisfaction he could have.

Beverly and Jimmy determine that the ear was severed within the last 48 hours and the envelope has no prints. Hannibal says that this must be a reminder from the real killer to show that Will is innocent and Jack notes that though Will had accused Hannibal of being the killer, he was at least partially right. Hannibal visits Will and they discuss the ear. Hannibal says that the ear is an opportunity - demonstrating that someone else wants to be seen for the crime and cares about what happens to Will.

Freddy Lounds (the awful gossipy reporter) is brought forward to testify. She says that she was very close with Abigail and claims that she had said Will wanted to kill and eat her. She says she doesn't blame herself, but blames Will instead. When the defence questions her, they simply ask how many times she has been sued for libel. She says six. He asks her how many times she settled. Again, she says six. That's all he has to ask.

Alana practices her testimony in front of Will's cage with his lawyer to prepare her for the questioning she will face. He brings up her personal relationship with Will and warns her that this will be brought up. She answers that she has no romantic feelings for Will, merely a professional curiosity. The lawyer likes this answer but warns her to not look like she's lying when she says it.

Will's ear is identified as having been cut with Will's knife, matching the cut on Abigail's. However that knife went missing after being turned in. Jack watches as the FBI raid a home in Maryland. When they enter, a fire starts after a booby trap is triggered. The home is of Sikes, the bailiff who stole the knife. When the fire stops, the FBI head in and find that Sikes' charred body impaled on antlers with his ear missing. Hannibal calls the scene an impressive piece of theatre. It matches the same crime that Will has been accused of. Jimmy says that they should have taken a stool sample to check if Will had actually been eating people.

Jack tells Kade that these murders serve as new evidence that must be presented to the judge. Kade is not supportive of this but Jack points out that there are details of the manner of killing that were never made public. The judge allows the evidence to be permitted but the trail will continue. Dr. Chilton testifies that Will appears to be an introvert who claims to possibly have Aspbergers and an empathy disorder. The word "claims" is used because Will has not permitted anyone to formally diagnose him. Chilton says that the murders were controlled and Will is putting on a facade to contradict this. He believes Will would kill again if given the opportunity. Meanwhile, Will imagines himself fishing.

Hannibal visits Will and gives him a file on Sikes, asking if that is his admirer. Will sees himself entering Sikes' place, shooting him once through the heart. Sikes dies believing they are friends before he is thrown onto the antler. The death is impersonal and the ear is cut off. This is a different killer because the mutilation occurred after death. Hannibal says that the crime offer reasonable doubt that could help him be set free. Hannibal says that this killer wrote him a poem and asks if he's going to let his love go to waste.

Alana meets with Will and his lawyer. She's confused that they've decided to change the course of their defence. They say that this new killer is a better approach and that it offers reasonable doubt. Alan would rather they stick with the unconsciousness plea. She is no longer being asked to take the stand. Instead, they call Hannibal. Hannibal says that he failed Will. The judge ends up striking the evidence about the bailiff's death after it is noted that a bullet to the heart is a different COD than mutilation. Later, the judge is found strung up dead with his head cut open, brain removed, and holding the scale of justice with his brain and heart on each side.

The team determines that the judge was killed in his chambers before being strung up. He was also shot in the chest like the bailiff. But the bullet was taken, possibly as a trophy. Jack says that this will cause the trail to start all over again and thinks that the killer wanted a mistrial to keep Will alive for the time being. Hannibal says he's not sure if it's the same killer. Kade tells Jack that the trial is becoming a circus and that he needs to cut Will loose if he wants to save himself.

Will hears a noise. His cell door opens and he walks over to it. He sees a large antlered animal, follows it and sees Hannibal standing next to an open door, gesturing to it. Alana visits Will and he admits he never had faith in legal justice. He talks about how he had a strange feeling that the killer had walked out of the courtroom with him. She asks him what the killer wants and Will says that the killer wants to know him.

Our victim from last episode begins the painful process of trying to remove himself from the massive colour palette of bodies but the adhesive used is no joke. In order to pull himself away from them, pieces of his flesh are torn and after breaking out of the locked door, he encounters his would-be killer as he drives up. He hides and the killer follows after him with a flashlight and a gun. He hides in a car, as there are several abandoned ones there but when the killer reaches it, he has already fled into the nearby cornfield. The chase continues and the victim eventually reaches a cliff over a large body of water. Knowing he has no other option, he leaps down into it. Unfortunately, he strikes his head on the way down and ends up dead anyway.

Hannibal and Alana meet with Will, who says he needs help as he doesn't know who he is anymore. Hannibal offers up his services but after Will is returned to his cell, it's implied that there is a great plan at play. Later, Hannibal tells Dr. Du Maurier that he will be resuming therapy with Will. She informs him that he is ending their professional relationship and will no longer be his therapist. They dance around a lot in their past that we have yet to be filled in on but she has come to the conclusion that Hannibal is dangerous.

The team gathers around the newest body in the morgue and Beverly brings forth the colour palette theory. Jack confronts her, knowing that this idea had to have come from Will. She tells him she visited him because she knew he would have said no but they needed his expert perspective. He warns her that they are all under close investigation and he has been ordered to get a psych evaluation after what happened with Will. However, he then gives her indirect permission to visit Will again but explicitly states that this conversation never took place.

Hannibal has suggested that the team look for evidence in the cracks of the victim's embalming but when their attention is otherwise occupied, he smells the body to get his own clues. He has a vision of himself in a cornfield with body on the slab so it would appear he is on his way to discovering the location of the other victims.

Hannibal visits Will again. Eventually talk shifts to the case and Will thinks the killer see the victims as a human mural, with each victim being like a brushstroke. Beverly also visits Will again and he advises her to ignore all the evidence against him and start over fresh. If he's guilty, she will only see more evidence to support that theory. She agrees to try this and then gives him the file. Using his own methods, he concludes that the victim had a high tolerance for opiates, given Beverly's insight that he had drug problems, and that the victim tore himself free and escaped to the river. He suggest that they look upstream from where he was found for a building from which the killer could work in secrecy. He also questions Beverly as to what Hannibal had said to the team and tells her that he knows more than what he had stated.

Hannibal has found the killer's hideout and pays it a visit draped in a plastic bodysuit. He watches from above and when the killer returns, Hannibal tells him, "I love your work." Later, the FBI descends upon the location and Hannibal has little to contribute to help them in their investigation. He is also skeptical as to whether or not the killer will strike again. At Jack's psych evaluation, he speaks about how he thought that Will would be able to fight his way back through the darkness that Jack put him through but now that he has failed, the world seems a much darker place. He just can't see Will as a killer, which may foreshadow his learning of Will's innocence later on...

There were 47 bodies found and 19 were identified. One body, John Doe 21, has an inexplicable missing leg... that is cooked into a meal by Hannibal!

Dr. Du Maurier speaks with Jack and politely requests that the FBI no longer speak with her about Hannibal. She tells him it would be irresponsible for her to continue helping Hannibal and that she is currently not feeling emotionally secure.

Beverly and Hannibal visit Will to get more help and show him a photo of the eye configuration of the bodies. He sees himself in the killer's mind and finds that the latest body does not belong in the configuration. He also sees the nightmare-stag looking down at him from the same place Hannibal had looked at the layout from his first secret visit. Will tells them that this man is the killer and then we see Hannibal putting the killer into the mural in the same manner as he had done to each of the victims.

Kade Prurnell visits Will to talk about his case. She wants him to plead guilty, promising to make his stay in the facility more comfortable if he does. Will refuses, more determined than ever to prove his innocence. Following this, Du Maurier visits Will. She tells she believe he can survive what has happened to him and when she approaches the bars, whispering to him that she believes him. The guards escort her off after telling her she is required to stay behind the line.

Finally, Hannibal visits Dr Maurier's house and finds the furniture covered in sheets. We are left to assume that she has moved (or run away). A bottle of perfume has been left on a chair and as Hannibal sniffs it, he remembers her words about his being dangerous.

Hannibal is back, everyone! And what better way to begin than with some cooking from our favourite cannibal leading into a fantastically choreographed fight between Hannibal and Jack, who... knows? Just when it seems that Jack has managed to strangle Hannibal to death with his tie, Hannibal takes a shard of glass and stable Jack right in the neck. It appears as though Jack's done for as he scurries back into the wine closet, locking the door behind him. Hannibal begins body-slamming the door repeatedly, ready to finish him off and this is when we learn that this is not a dream - it's a glimpse into the future.

12 weeks earlier, Hannibal has prepared some Kaiseki for Jack. He can't quite place the fish upon tasting it and Hannibal replies, "He was a flounder." I'm sure he was, Hannibal. I'm sure he was. They are mourning Will's being placed behind bars and Jack feels personally responsible. Hannibal says that Jack must investigate Hannibal, for appearances' sake of course, but neither of them appear to be concerned about the outcome of it.

Behind bars, Will has a vision of himself fishing in the forest and sees the swiggity-swag-nightmare-stag. Will is brought out of his daydream where a psychiatrist is questioning him on "how that makes him feel." He is relatively polite but says that he wants to speak to Doctor Lecter.

Alana has filed a report against Jack of misconduct. The FBI admin (Cynthia Nixon) points out that there is a desire to make all of this go away quickly and quietly and tries to get Alana retract her report. Alana and Jack are not on bad terms, as Jack understands her concerns for Will.

At a dam, some public workers stumble across several dead bodies. The poor men look highly traumatised by the experience but this is a welcome moment for the Fannibals who have been counting down for this incredible show to make its return.

Hannibal has a session with Dr. Du Maurier, where he tells her Will has asked to see him. Hannibal is keen on seeing him again and even admits that he misses him. Du Maurier tells Hannibal he is obsessed with Will, and Will will take advantage of that. Hannibal states that Will is his friend and that he admires Will's inability to hide who he is. Hannibal finally visits Will, who promises that he will figure out what he has done to him and that there will be a day or reckoning.

Hannibal surrenders his DNA and suits for the FBI to investigate him. For all intensive purposes, he is the new Will Graham, having taken over Will's responsibility of psychologically profiling murder cases. When visiting the crime scene of the bodies found earlier, Hannibal notes that the bodies have been injected with silicone, among other things, and that the killer was making models. The fact that these bodies were discarded means that these were his imperfect discards.

Hannibal has signed a document allowing Dr. Du Maurier permission to share whatever she wants with the FBI. Hannibal tells her about his visit with Will, saying that he looked into Will's eyes and saw death. She asks why he is inviting the scrutiny of the FBI and points out that he is maintaining an air of transparency while putting her in a position to life for him... again. He replies that she's not just lying for him and they share a knowing look. She asks how far this will go and he says that Jack is not suspicious of him. She replies that Jack doesn't know what he's capable of. Hannibal replies, "Neither do you," and she appears shaken.

Alana has been looking after Will's dogs and visits him when he's locked up. She doesn't believe that the Will Graham before him is capable of such violence and he says he is certain he has heard Hannibal's voice inside his head. His psychiatrist from earlier, Frederick, listens in on their conversation from his office. Will asks for Alan's help in recovering some memories. The treatment involves a lit-up metronome and some hypnosis, where Will sees Alan as covered in black paint before she turns to paint. While under, he sits at a long table covered in a messy feast. At the other end of the table, the Swiggity-Stag sits and in front of him, is a plate with a human ear on it. He jolts awake and says that it isn't working. Alana asks him what he saw but he doesn't share the answer.

Frederick visits Hannibal, who has prepared him a meal without meat (gasp). Apparently Frederick lost a kidney and must now watch his protein intake. They discuss Will and Frederick shares the fact that Will attempted to recover memories. Frederick tells him that Will speaks of him incessantly, saying Hannibal is a monster, and Hannibal jokes to Frederick that he is dining with a psychopathic murderer. Oh hardy har har.

We see from the perspective of this episode's murderer as he stalks his victims before baiting them so they may be captured. He then injects them with dyes, silicones, preservatives, and heroine. The FBI notes that the victims are sealed with a resin shell. The victims appear to be random as they don't have anything in common regarding their ethnicity, gender, location, etc.

The forensics tech Beverly visits Will and brings the file on this episode's killer. She seems to know that Will is still of value in finding this killer and asks for his help. She goes over the killer's method of capturing them but wants to know how the victims are chosen. She has photos of the recovered bodies and spreads them out on the table. Will begins arranging them in a particular order and then shows that the victims comprise a colour palate.

Will is brought his generic dinner, complete with plastic silverware. After taking a bite of the Salisbury steak, he has a memory of Hannibal snaking some plastic tubing down his throat and then sending Abigail's ear down.

Jack visits Will's old home, and Will's dog Winston meets him on the porch. Alana shows up shortly after, as Winston has developed a habit of running back to Will's home. Jack says he understands why Alana filed the report and says that it will help Will's case in the long run since it is now on record. She tells him that Will is fixated on Hannibal's being guilty so he won't have to face the horrors of the crimes he committed. She says that even though Will is terrified, he hasn't stopped trying to find the truth.

Will is visited by Jack. When Will tells him he has recovered a memory, Jack says that it is meaningless. Will says that it's not meaningless to him. Jack says that they have investigated Hannibal thoroughly and have found nothing. Will tells him, "I am not the intelligent psychopath you're looking for." Jack leaves but Will tells him that though he may not believe him now, he will.

Back at the killer's lair, the victim from his episode wakes and finds himself sewn into a mass of dead bodies and lets out a scream.

Hannibal airs on Fridays on NBC at 10PM.
