Marvel's Cloak & Dagger S01E10 "Colony Collapse" Recap

Tandy saves Melissa but Greg's killer manages to escape instead of being apprehended. Melissa doesn't understand what's happening or why Tandy needs to leave. But Tandy kisses her mother goodbye and heads out to save the rest of those in need.

Tyrone's father meets with him and tells Tyrone to go on the run and never make contact with him or his mother. Although Tyrone's father believes him and knows he is innocent, he wants Tyrone to be safe. He gives Tyrone his cloak which allows Tyrone to escape using his abilities, which Tyrone's father still doesn't know about.

Tandy heads to Mina's place where she uses her light dagger to stab one of the infected Roxxon workers that was trying to kill her. Tandy is horrified that everything is happening again like when her father died. Tandy runs up to Mina's place and saves Mina from one of the other infected Roxxon workers. Tandy tells Mina about how Scarborough falsified the reports and that everyone had turned psychotic eight years ago that were infected by the gas. Mina is horrified that her design has put even more people at risk, since there are eight more pipes with building pressure across the city. But first they need to get to Roxxon to see if there is a central valve that can shut them all off.

Tyrone hides in a crowded Mardi Gras parade but is nearly apprehended by cops. O'Reilly arrives and tries to help Tyrone escape but they are quickly surrounded by other cops. Tyrone won't use his powers with so many people around to watch him do so in daylight so both he and O'Reilly are arrested.

Evita tells her aunt about how she has discovered the other half of the Divine Pairing. Aunt Chantelle reminds her of her history to better understand how it is that they'll be able to save the city from the impending threat. She coaches Evita so that she will be able to help Tandy and Tyrone fulfill their destiny.

O'Reilly and Tyrone are placed in an unofficial holding cell. They deduce that the corrupt police intend to kill them instead of officially apprehending them. Tyrone struggles to summon his powers without his cloak to help him.

Tandy and Mina make it Roxxon where they confront Scarborough together. Tandy forces him to reveal the location of the core for the city-wide system Mina has designed. Tandy then enters his mind where all of his hopes are. She then removes enough of his hopes to reduce him to a trapped state much like Ivan was in for the past eight years. But as they are leaving, they are attacked by Grey's killer. However, she is then attacked by an an infected person. More and more infected begin to swarm and they retreat into a warehouse but Mina ends up being infected, leaving Tandy vulnerable.

Tyrone and O'Reilly are somewhat spared from the corrupt cops intending to kill them, due to the infection spreading to the precinct. The various officers begin to fight one another instead. Tyrone is able to retrieve his cloak and use it to teleport to Tandy in time to save her from an infected Mina, leaving O'Reilly to fight off various infected folks.

Evita arrives and informs Tandy and Tyrone of their fate as the Divine Pairing. Tyrone then tells Tandy he is concerned he won't be able to use his powers because his cloak was ruined during the fighting at the police station. But she returns his hoodie to him that she had kept after the accident eight years ago. The hoodie was one that belonged to Billy, and Tyrone feels his confidence to use his abilities is renewed, and joins Tandy to set off for the core.

O'Reilly attempts to get to a valve but is confronted by Connors who shoots her. Her body is exposed to some energy from the core in the process, and Connors pushes her seemingly dead body into the ocean. Connors then confronts Tandy and Tyrone outside the building containing the central core. Tyrone tells Connors he isn't afraid of him anymore and teleports Connors to the top of a building. Tyrone releases him without dumping him over the edge, after which Connors tries to draw his gun to kill Tyrone. But the Darkforce shoots out of Tyrone's hoodie and absorbs Connors, much to Tyrone's shock since this is something in his ability he never knew about.

Tyrone tells Tandy he needs to die in order for them to save the city and teleports inside without her to try to shut off the valve and sacrifice himself, believing this is how they will fulfill their destiny as the Divine Pairing. But Tandy forces her way into the building and helps Tyrone by combining their abilities to absorb the leaking energy, which they then shoot up into the sky so it will no longer infect the city.

After this, all the infected are cured and Roxxon is rightfully blamed for what has happened. Tandy decides to move back in with Melissa while Tyrone moves into the church that Tandy used to live in, since he is still wanted for the murder of Fuchs. O'reilly is believed by everyone to be dead but she later emerges from the water due to her exposure to the darkforce matter before Connors had dumped her body.

Marvel's Cloak & Dagger S01E09 "Back Breaker" Recap

Tyrone and his parents are called into the police station where they are officially told that Connors has been arrested and suspended on suspicion of being Billy's killers but they don't display much of a reaction due to how drained they are after all the years of not having justice for Billy's death. Tyrone is upset that they don't have more of a reaction but Tyrone's father merely tells him they will talk about it later.

Tandy begins spiraling due to the revelation of her father being abusive. She begins working on her old businesses of robbing from wealthy marks. But this time she's not stealing monetary items, but their hopes instead. Stealing a person's hopes gives her a high.

Evita becomes concerned when her Aunt Chantelle returns home after wandering around drunk. Her aunt implores her to ask Tyrone if he has met the other half of his Divine Pairing, as she believes that they will need to be ready to stop a great threat coming (Roxxon's upcoming drilling).

Tyrone begins lashing out at school, getting into a fight with one of his classmates. When Father Delgado tries to talk to Tyrone to figure out how to get Tyrone back on track, Tyrone is able to get into his head. Father Delgado suffers from alcoholism and is afraid of this addiction leading to the death of a child, or possible already has harmed a children - the vision isn't clear enough to tell whether Tyrone is only seeing fear or if it's also a memory.

Tandy also begins to lash out, and even steals hope from Mina, who has been reconnecting to her father and even offers Tandy a job at Roxxon. She is reunited with Liam at the station, who is still hurt by Tandy abandoning him. She is prepared to steal hope from him too, but Tyrone stops her from doing so.

O'Reilly is also spiraling as she hasn't been able to get justice for the murdered Fuchs. She attacks Connors at a bar but he beats her viciously while their colleagues watch and do nothing to intervene.

Tandy goes to Tyrone's school to confront him for interfering with her attempts to steal hope but Evita intervenes to defend him. Tandy gets into her head but Evita pushes her out before she can steal her hopes too. Evita is able to determine that Tandy is the other half the Divine Pairing. Tandy tells Tyrone to steal out of her head but Tyrone says that he has no interest in being in hers at all since he is so wrapped up in his own family's traumas.

Mina discovers an energy leak and witnesses it explode out of a pipe and infect some Roxxon workers that chase after her in the woods.

When Tyrone gets home, his mother Adina expresses concerns over what she sees as recklessness on his part in trying to get justice for his brother. She reminds him of the racial inequalities that allow white men to get away with killing black people and assures him she only wants to protect him. The police then arrive, intent on arresting Tyrone who has been framed for Fuchs' murder. Adina instructs him to run away and sneak out before he can be caught.

Tandy learns that Liam has stolen all the money she received from Scarborough and is then confronted by Greg's killer, who holds Tandy's mother Melissa at gunpoint.

The eight-year anniversary arrives of the rig explosion. Tandy visits her mother, expressing a desire to set aside time to remember Nathan together for the occasion. But first Tandy has her own mission to complete about infiltrating Roxxon to find her father's file. To start things off she visits Tyrone, who is remembering the death of Billy with his parents. They are all struggling to deal with the surge of emotions surrounding the tragedy. Before leaving, Tandy invites Tyrone to visit her and her mother later when they'll be remembering her father.

Tandy gets into Roxxon and retrieves Nathan's evidence, which she then uses to confront Scarborough, threatening him with exposure. He attempts to bribe her in exchange for the evidence but she rejects his offer, wanting to use it to legitimately clear her father's name.

Tyrone finishes his work on Billy's cloak, which he is able to use to get a better control over his powers. He orchestrates a plan with O'Reilly in which Tyrone uses the cloak and his powers to 'haunt' Connors in disguise as Billy's ghost. This escalates until Connors confesses to murdering Billy out loud, which allows O'Reilly to arrest him with the help of her boyfriend and fellow officer Fuchs.

Tyrone joins Tandy and Melissa for their memorial for Nathan, following the success of their respective missions. When the trio come together to hold hands, Tandy and Tyrone are able to enter Melissa's memories in which they discover that Nathan was abusive to her. Tandy is devastated by this revelation, and in turn decides to accept Scarborough's bribe and give up the evidence.

Marvel's Cloak & Dagger S01E07 "Lotus Eaters" Recap

Tandy recruits Tyrone to help her enter Ivan's mind in an effort to reach him and free him from his catatonic state. Upon getting inside, they discover he is living in a loop of the final moments leading up to the rig explosion. He is overjoyed to see them since they are something new to his loop, and that they  talk. He doesn't remember his name and seems surprised that they have any names. He also doesn't remember his daughter Mina.

Ivan doesn't have the initiative to try to break the loop but answers Tandy and Tyrone's questions about what transpires within the loop. He also has no sense of how long he has been in the loop. Ivan reveals that the other employees on the rig were infected by the mysterious energy that Roxxon was searching for. These employees take on the form of psychopathic killers in Ivan's mind.

Tandy is overcome with emotion upon learning that the phone ringing in each loop is her father calling Ivan, a phone call that she was present for in the real world that he made right before he crashed the car with her inside into the river. Tandy answers the phone on the next call and talks to this version of her father, saying that she misses him. Tyrone implores Tandy to not get distracted, saying they need to shut off the valves and evacuate everyone, according to Ivan's theory that the explosion can be stopped from the core but wasn't able to do it in real life nor in any of the loops he has lived through since. However, Tandy opts to speak to her father a few more times in the loops while Tyrone tries to complete the job himself.

Although Tyrone is initially successful at shutting off the valves by using his powers but it isn't effective since it's all just a part of Ivan's mind. Tyrone exits Ivan's mind, expecting Tandy to do the same. But when he reaches the real world, he finds that Tandy hasn't come with him. When he re-enters Ivan's mind, he discovers that Tandy has lost herself to Ivan's loop and her grief over her father. Tandy lashes out at Tyrone to try to make him leave her to the loop but Tyrone refuses to abandon her and finally manages to convince her that it's not really her father that is calling in the loop.

Tandy manages to break through to Ivan by making him remember Mina, which gets Ivan to work alongside Tandy and Tyrone to reach the core. Following this success, Ivan wakes from his catatonic state with no memory of Tandy or Tyrone being in his mind and is reunited with Mina.

Some time later, Tandy and Tyrone listen to a recording of Billy together.

Marvel's Cloak & Dagger S01E06 "Funhouse Mirrors" Recap

Auntie Chantelle has Evita help her with channeling in order to study Tyrone and determine the fate of the city. Auntie Chantelle senses that there is disaster coming and that Tyrone's story is central to what will come.

Meanwhile, Tyrone has begun following Duane in order to try to find out the truth regarding the aftermath of his brother's death. He later approaches Duane and asks for a job with him and discovers that one of Duane's associates, Kev, is running drugs for him on the low.

Tandy becomes an intern for Mina in the hopes of getting closer to her and learn more about what their fathers were working on together. Tyrone visits Tandy to tell her about getting threatened by Kev, who had pulled a gun on him. She shares about her own investigations and advises him to steal Kev's bag in order to get his job.

O'Reilly pairs up with Connors for a drug bust in the hopes of learning more about his illicit activities. They end up pursuing Kev and some other locals that take off running during a drug deal. O'Reilly searches for Kev's bag that he had thrown away before running away from Connors but is unable to find it because Tyrone has already snatched it up.

Tandy accompanies Mina on an exploration of a local swamp so they can learn more about the surrounding nature. She learns more about Ivan and Nathan from Mina but their exploration is broken up by a Roxxon employee telling Mina she is needed to repair a pipe. Tandy decides to help her but in the process, Mina is able to deduce whom Tandy really is and leaves due to feeling betrayed by her deception.

Kev catches up to Tyrone and demands his bag back but Tyrone is finally able to access his powers and uses Tyrone's fear against him, causing Kev to run away scared. Tyrone brings the bag back to Duane and asks again for a job and he accepts. Duane takes Tyrone on a drive and says how only white people get justice. He also reveals that he witnessed Billy's death and Tyrone is furious that Duane knew all these years and didn't say anything about it, and even more for working with Connors now.

Tandy follows Mina to a hospital where Ivan is taken care of due to his being in a catatonic state. Tandy apologises to Mina for not telling the truth. Tandy tries to use her powers to access his hope but discovers that she cannot see into his mind due to his condition but is implied to suspect that Tyrone may be able to help him. Auntie Chantelle realises that Tyrone is part of the "Divine Pairing" but does not know whom the other half of it is. According to her, either Tyrone or Tandy will have to die during what is to come.

Connors enters Duane's building and gives him a gun that he demands Duane use to kill O'Reilly whom he plans to lure in. Tyrone is still in the building, hiding, and overhears Connors' plan. However, O'Reilly ends up shooting and killing Duane when she enters, causing Tyrone to cry out. Tyrone runs out of the building and Connors chases after him. He tries to shoot him twice which Tyrone is able to dodge by using his powers, and eventually teleports back to the church where Tandy comforts him as he cries for his dead friend.

Marvel's Cloak & Dagger S01E05 "Princeton Offense" Recap

Tandy goes through the files she retrieved from what was left of Greg's office and begins organising them.

Detective O'Reilly has sex with one of her fellow officers in the back of her squad car before returning to the office to meet with Tyrone, whom Tandy had directed him to as someone he can trust. Tyrone shares how he saw Connors selling drugs he claimed to have lifted from evidence. O'Reilly agrees to help him, saying she isn't sure if she believes him entirely but admits to not trusting Connors. However, she warns Tyrone to stay out of trying to play detective and to leave that to actual police like herself.

Tyrone returns to school and Tandy meets him to apologise for how poorly their last encounter went and reveals that she has learned to control her powers, even manifesting her light dagger in the hallway which he quickly hides using his backpack. She asks Tyrone if the school has a computer lab, wanting to use it to research Roxxon. Tandy prints out some documents, saying there's a hole missing in the middle of the documents she's found which indicate a powerful figure at the center of it all but for now she can only follow the lead of B-list figures in the Roxxon scheme. She shares how she tried to kill herself and it unlocked the key to her not caring about all the other bad things in her life and to instead focus so she can use her powers. She proposes that they use their gifts to try to help right these injustices of their lives. Tyrone is saddened when Evita appears to now only be interested in a platonic relationship with him. Tandy uses her light dagger to break into some cheerleader lockers to steal some clothes in her size.

Tyrone returns home and accidentally teleports to Billy's friend Duane Porter who is now all grown up and runs a home building enterprise. This gives Tyrone the opportunity to catch up with an old friend after he was just thinking about him when looking at an old childhood photo. Duane advises him to look ahead and make the things matter most his priority.

Tandy decides to apply to be an intern at Roxxon Gulf, using a fake name and backstory, in the hopes of getting access to the higher positioned employees of the company. She aces her interviews and is accepted for the position.

Tyrone offers Evita his letterman jacket to wear for the game and reaffirms his interest in a romantic relationship with her. The big game is underway and Tyrone is working hard in the game, while Tandy is at a Roxxon party using her powers to see the hopes of different Roxxon employees.

O'Reilly visits a prisoner in custody and forces him to reveal the contact of someone that supplies cocaine.

Tyrone accidentally teleports the basketball from the game to the party Tandy is at and during halftime he accidentally teleports himself there too. Tandy has been discovering that numerous Roxxon employees hope to overthrow their CEO. Tandy is shocked to see Tyrone at the party and he claims that her using her powers has effected him. Because they are connected, all this extra hope-searching she's been doing has been causing his powers to go haywire during the basketball tournament. With Tyrone's help, Tandy is able to determine that the CEO of Rozon Gulf is Peter Scarborough. Peter had been the one to defame her father's name. When Tyrone struggles to figure out how to get back to the game, she tells him he needs to take a risk and she pushes him over the balcony. He falls into a fountain of water and emerges back at the game in time for the second half to start up.

Tandy meets a woman named Mina Hess at the party whose importance is revealed later...

O'Reilly gets a stash of cocaine from a local dealer who asks her if loose morals is what all cops have in common.

As Tyrone continues to play in the tournament, his abilities allow him to see the fears of the opposing team and how significant this game is for them. As a result, he deliberately (but barely) misses the final shot which causes the opposing team to win instead. He leaves feeling good about the kind deed he has done.

Tandy visits Scarborough at his home, claiming to have a flat tire and wanting to use his phone to call for help but instead he gets out his tools to teach her how to change the tire. During the encounter, she secretly manifests the light dagger and considers killing him with it but instead uses her powers to see into his head, learning that he is motivated by greed and doesn't care who he hurts in the pursuit of profit.

O'Reilly is 'caught' at the station by Connors huffing cocaine, but he is sympathetic to her feigned plight and even sniffs a line from her. The implication with this encounter is that she is attempting to bait him into revealing the supplier he is working with.

Tyrone returns home and finds Evita waiting for him in his room, saying she knows he threw the game to help the other team and admires him for being a good person. They spend the night together and she chooses to sneak out the following morning to spare him the hassle of explaining her presence to his parents. Tyrone then accidentally teleports to Duane's work site and spies Duane arguing with Connors. They've been working together and Duane even knows the truth about Billy's death.

Tandy discovers a diagram with her father's name on it along with "Ivan Hess" who was the father of Mina Hess, the woman she met at the party.

Marvel's Cloak & Dagger S01E03 "Stained Glass" Recap

Tyrone checks on Tandy after her car crash and assures her that the gun in his hand isn't meant for her. Despite her injuries, she gets back into the car and carries on driving out of town.

Detective O'Reilly visits Rick in the ICU to ask about his attack. She notes the scratches on his face that look like defensive wounds and informs him that the paramedics said that his pants were unbuckles when he was brought in. She is able to deduce that he was trying to rape Tandy when he was stabbed.

Tandy's car breaks down so she abandons it and returns home to Melissa and Greg's, heading to the bathroom to wipe the blood off her head injury. Melissa is alarmed to see that her daughter was bleeding but their conversation is interrupted by O'Reilly knocking on the door, asking to see Tandy. Melissa lies, saying that Tandy isn't there. Greg says that O'Reilly can't come in without a warrant. Tandy overhears O'Reilly say that Tandy isn't under arrest and likely a victim in an assault, leaving her card behind to be contacted if they want. When Melissa returns to the bathroom she discovers that Tandy has snuck out through the window. Tandy gets on a bus that night and falls asleep, only to 'wake' in a sort of spirit vision.

Tyrone meets his classmate/love-interest Evita who overhears him pondering if he is cursed. She brings him to her part-time job as a tour guide of New Orleans in order to introduce him to voodoo priestess Auntie Clarisse who can offer him spiritual guidance. After reading some cards on him, she determines he needs a bath and gives him a list of spices and charms to use with his bath. He also enters a spirit vision.

Both Tandy and Tyrone have visions of the other. In Tandy's vision she sees a young Tyrone playing basketball with his brother Billy. Billy rejects his friends offering to go steal a car radio, opting to stay and play with Tyrone instead. The vision shifts to the woods where Tyrone at his present age picks up a gun from the table and shoots Connors to avenge his brother. But then his parents collapse and police officers swarm him. The vision replays with Tyrone trying to kill Connors through different means but the end is always the same. Tandy pleads with Tyrone to try something else and then her light dagger emerges from her hand which she places on the table. Tyrone goes to pick it up and it transforms into a pair of handcuffs. He brings them to Connors who immediately flees.

Tyrone has a vision of a young Tandy doing ballet on the rooftop of a building. He shields her from a puddle of water when a light's electric current begins to run haywire. The vision then changes to Tandy at her current age in the woods watching in horror as a room depicts manifestations of her greatest fears and difficulties in life. Each time, Tandy tries to run away until Tyrone manifests his smoke powers to keep her in place and try something else instead of always running form her problems. She manifests a light dagger and this time the vision changes. Tyrone is alone in the woods and sees a large door which he attempts to open and get inside.

Tandy finds Tyrone as a child locked in a room crying over the loss of his brother, while Tyrone finds a child version of Tandy giving the different men in her life (both good and bad) pills that cause them to drop dead. Both Tandy and Tyrone begin to manifest their powers once more and try to reach out for each before waking with clear consciences and an understanding that they need each other for the journeys they find themselves on.

Connors meets with O'Reilly and informs her that her case on Rick's attack is being closed, claiming that he found Rick's license on a dead drug-dealer and that they were the attacker. She is frustrated by this development since it doesn't match the evidence. O'Reilly then gets a call from Tandy who agrees to meet with her privately to share her story about what happened at the attack. O'Reilly apologises to her for not being able to do more for her and Tandy leaves, despondent.

Tyrone finally initiates a romantic relationship with Evita before leaving to confront Tandy at the abandoned church she has been staying at, wanting to better understand and explore this connection they have.

Marvel's Cloak & Dagger S01E01 "First Light" Recap

A young Tandy Bowen is picked up from ballet late by her her father Nathan after she calls his office to remind him to come get her. A young Tyrone Johnson learns that his older brother Billy and his friends were scammed out of being paid for a job they did installing a car radio. Tyrone steals the car radio back but when his brother Billy finds out he instructs him not to steal and says they will put it back but they end up pursued by cops anyway.

Tandy's father Nathan is driving home in the rain while talking on the phone while the cops pursue Billy and Tyrone to a construction site. The Roxxon Gulf Platform explodes which distracts Nathan and causes him to crash the car and send it over the bridge into the water. The explosion also causes Detective Connors to "accidentally" shoot Billy, sending him falling into the water. Tyrone jumps in after him, desperate to save his brother. A strange energy force shoots out of rig which gifts Tany and Tyrone the powers of light and dark, and the two even join together to hold hands.

Years later, Tandy is involved in schemes with her boyfriend Liam to rob rich people. She goes home with one mark that she chats up at a club and drugs him before letting Liam in so they can steal his various expensive items. Meanwhile Tyrone is playing high school basketball and repeatedly gets knocked down before he punches a player from the opposing team that had been the latest to knock him down. The two get into a fight on the court that ends when one of his teammates pulls him off.

Tandy sneaks back into an abandoned building where she stays instead of living with her mother Melissa. She is revealed to have a habit of snorting prescription medication. Melissa's lawyer boyfriend Greg is working on a case against Roxxon, and is prone to coming home drunk. In a flashback it's revealed that the oil explosion rig was pinned on Nathan, as Roxxon claims that he went rogue on some off-the-books experiment.

Tandy is angry at Liam for getting scammed out a larger profit from their latest robbery and he tells her there's a party happening later in the woods. Meanwhile, Tyrone gets invited to the same party by a girl from school. Tandy later returns home when she knows that her mother is out in order to put some items into a hidden bag where she keeps various items stashed, including a cash stash, prescription drugs, and other important personal items.

Tandy and Tyrone meet at the party in the woods. She spills her drink on his jacket, and the two introduce themselves without knowing that they have met each other before. Tyrone prepares to buy his date a drink when he realises that Tandy stole his wallet. He chases her into the woods and upon catching up to her, he grabs her hand and a beam of light comes out of hers and send them both flying back. Then both stop and stare at their hands, as hers is glowing bright while his has dark smoke coming out of it. Tandy then realises that Tyrone is the boy she met after her childhood accident and the two have an emotional moment but Tandy runs off, afraid and confused by this new manifestation of her powers. She leaves her bag behind and Tyrone picks it up before heading off.

Tyrone returns home and goes to sleep in his room only to wake up the following morning wrapped in his sheet on the roof of a building in the city. In a flashback, Tyrone goes to the police station with his parents where a police chief captain claims that Billy's body was found with drugs in his system and denies there being a cop that shot Billy, even saying that no one works at the station that matches the description Tyrone gave. But Tyrone is caught on camera stealing the car radio and the surveillance footage of it is shown to Tyrone's parents. In the present, Tyrone discovers Detective Connors heading out for a day of work on the force.

Tandy is caught at home by her mother, who returned early after quitting her job. She accidentally cut her hand and has it wrapped in a towel, which her mother wants to look at but when she grabs Tandy's hand, Tandy has a vision of her parents talking about how much they loved each other and watching Tandy dance ballet. When Tandy comes out of the vision, her mother doesn't know what Tandy is talking about when she tries to explain the vision. It's also worth noting that in the commotion, Tandy forgets to put her stash of cash and drugs back in its proper hiding place.

Later that night, Tyrone does some searching online to track down the identity of his brother's killer. His mother reprimands him for missing a day of school and her concerns about the fighting and for the alcohol she smelled on his jacket. He scolds her for putting so much pressure on him to be perfect, believing that they think they'll lose him if he isn't the perfect son but she tells him that she's worried that even if he does everything right that they'll still lose him. Tyrone is sympathetic to her grief and worry, and promises to be better.

Tandy attends a ballet with a ticket to the show that she stole from one of her wealthy marks. However, she opts to watch the show from one of the stage rigs high above the stage instead of in the audience. When she is leaving the show, she is cornered by a man named Rick whom she had robbed earlier who has his friends to back him up. Rick tries to rape Tandy alone but she summons a light dagger and stabs him with it, confused as to how it appeared and then disappeared after she used it.

Tyrone wakes up in the trunk of Connors' car with no idea how he got there and finds a stash of cocaine. Connors is a dirty cop trying to sell some drugs from the police evident locker. While he is at the deal, he opens the trunk to show the buyer some of the supply but Tyrone throws the cocaine and makes a mess of it all over Connors before running off. Connors catches up to Tyrone, whom he grabs by the throat. Tyrone has a flashback to the night Connors killed his brother and is horrified to learn that Connors talked to another cop that was with him after shooting Billy and said that he would call his uncle to cover up the situation. Tyrone gets away, hides under a tarp, and somehow teleports back to his room and finds a bullet that Connors had shot at him has also ended up in his room.

In a flashback, Tandy and Tyrone wake up the morning after the storm, having washed up on the beach and holding each other's hands. Tandy is the first to wake up and she takes Tyrone's hoodie to wear, grabs her bag, and walks off. Tandy is revealed to still have the hoodie and wears it to feel safe, while she tries to figure out how to summon the light dagger again. Tyrone as a child had woken up after Tandy left and found one of her ballet slippers among the debris around him and taken it home. Tyrone also still has the slipper and pulls it out while thinking about the mysterious girl from his childhood.

Clary is still being help captive by the possessed Jace, while Simon must lurk in the shadows of the hospital to see if his sister is okay while his mother is spouting stories of vampires to the police. Simon visits his sister and apologises for attacking her and corrects here misguided theory that she will now turn into a vampire. She is sympathetic upon learning how he had died when he became a vampire and didn't have his family to support him through the process. He shares how he had previously had a vampire hypnotize her and their mother in order to make them forget that he is a vampire. She is apologetic for not having been more supportive in the past and promises to be there for him now. They decide to have their mother hypnotized once more into thinking Simon is dead, while his sister forgives and accepts him completely with every promise to help him in any way that he needs from now on.

Luke is being interrogated about recent suspicious activities and gets suspended when he insists on leaving in order to help Clary. He mets up with Marlyse who informs him of how Lilith used Jace to break Clary out of the guard. It's clear to them that Clary is part of the ritual Lilith is planning and they've been able to detect that Clary is back in the city. While Clary finally comes face-to-face with Lilith, Magnus is reunited with his father.

Luke and Simon team up with the Shadowhunters to launch an attack on Lilith's base of operations. Jace and Alec end up in a personal fight in which Jace viciously breaks Alec's arm. The possessed Jace taunts Alec, saying the real Jace deep inside is begging him not to do this. Alec tells Jace he forgives him, saying it wasn't him and apologizing for not being able to save him. Just as the possessed Jace is preparing to stab and kill Alec, Magnus shows up with the magical power boost he needed from his father in order to blast Jace and free him of his possession. While Jace goes through the pain of being repossessed, Magnus checks on the injured Alec. Jace rushes over to check on Alec and Magnus reveals he can't magically fix Alec's wounds because he traded his magic in order to free Jace of his possession. Magnus promises to take care of Alec while Jace goes to get Clary and stop Lilith once and for all.

Lilith cares a mark onto Clary's chest which triggers the ritual to resurrect Jonathan. Meanwhile, Izzy and Luke are fighting off Lilith's disciples in the lobby of the building. Winged creatures explode out of some of the disciples which Izzy and Luke must continue to fight while Simon gets to Clary and undoes her restraints. Simon wants to get Clary out but she insists that they need to stop the resurrection ritual.

Jace kills the winged creatures and Luke and Izzy tell him Clary is on the top floor. While Jace heads upstairs to save her, Luke and Izzy continue to fight off the disciples. Clary distracts Lilith by threatening to slice her own throat which would prevent the ritual from being completed. Clary unleashes a blast to knock Lilith down which allows Simon to get to the box containing Jonathan which he begins to bang his fists on to try to break the glass. Lilith then tries to attack Simon which triggers the mark of Cain. Simon is sent flying through a glass window and Lilith is blasted back to Edom in a massive explosion just as Jonathan had reached out of the box to grab hold of Clary's wrist. Jace arrives to the rooftop apartment to find it destroyed.

Downstairs, the remaining disciples wake free from their possession. Back on the roof, Simon tells Jace that Clary is dead and that the explosion he caused was what killed her.

Shadowhunters will return to Freeform for the second half of season three.

Shadowhunters S03E09 "Familia Ante Omnia" Recap

Clary is washed and prepped before being dressed in red robes and chains. She is then placed into a holding cell alongside other prisoners set to be executed and watches in horror as one of them is burned alive. While Clary watches more prisoners be burned alive, she learns from another one of them that Jia Penhallow wants to have Valentine temporarily resurrected in order to question him about a demon.

Simon is angry at Jordan for sharing his feelings for Maia as it has caused her significant confusion. He insists that from now on the two of them will only have a professional relationship instead of a personal friendship too, prompting Jordan to share that he has determined that the mark he was branded with the Mark of Cain. This mark causes any that would do harm to him to receive it seven times over. Simon wonders if he can use this mark to rescue Clary but is distracted by his need for blood since it's been a while since he last fed given all the recent distractions. Jordan leaves to find some blood for him.

Magnus visits Alec and Izzy to inform them he has found a way to free Jace of the dark magic Lilith has him imprisoned in. He can break the mental cage Jace is trapped in by blasting him with enough magic to banish Lilith's presence in his mind. But in order to do this he will need to use a powerful spell that will allow him to temporarily channel the magic of other warlocks. But first he will need to get permission from the High Warlock in order to organise all of this.

Jace brings Heidi to Lilith, who plans to manipulate her into being a distraction for Simon to keep him from interfering with her plans.

When it is Clary's turn to be executed, she offers to resurrect Valentine and Jia Penhallow agrees to stay her execution for the time being. After Valentine is resurrected, Jia tries to send Clary back to the courtyard but Valentine refuses to answer anyone's questions besides Clary. He reveals that he summoned Lilith once while alive in order to get a dose of her blood to inject into Jonathan while he was still in the womb so that he would have the strength of angels and demons to do his bidding. In return, Lilith would be able to have the one thing she always wanted but was never able to have -- a child.

Luke tries to get his pack to come with him to go after Clary on a rescue mission but they refuse to put themselves into that level of danger so Luke leaves the pack, prepared to take on the mission alone.

Heidi calls Simon to inform him she is at his family home. He finds that she is holding his mother and sister hostage.

Alec pushes Lorenzo to approve the warlocks to help with Magnus' spell but he instead forbids them from doing so. Magnus is encouraged by a friend to call his father for help but he refuses to go to those lengths.

Jordan visits the Institute to ask Isabelle for help since Heidi is said to have escaped, and all three of her guards were killed. Jordan returned home and found broken glass in the apartment and Simon was gone. He has one of Simon's shirts and asks her to use Shadowhunter magic to find him. Meanwhile, Heidi is forcing Simon to reveal that he is a vampire to his mother and sister by cutting Simon's sites on the neck to force him in his starving state to feed on her. Isabelle and Jordan arrive in time to stop Simon from killing his sister and Simon's mother threatens to kill him if he comes near them again, ordering him to leave and never come back.

Magnus confronts Lorenzo for not granting permission and the two end up in a magical fight. Luke calls Magnus and leaves a voicemail asking for his help in creating a portal to get him where he wants to go. Unfortunately, some officers arrive and order Luke to come in to answer some questions regarding recent suspicious behaviour he's been exhibiting.

Jia's muscle are unable to take Valentine out given the strength of the rune Clary created to resurrect him, so he takes out some of the soldiers and even momentarily gets the upperhand on Clary. Valentine makes it out to the courtyard and kills more of the guards and the executioner while freeing those that were set to be executed from their cage. He tries to rally these former Circle members to join him so he can conquer once more. However, Clary eventually manages to catch up to him and deactivate the resurrection rune, sending Valentine back to his grave for good. A guard catches up to Clary, who implores them to destroy Valentine's body but after the guard puts shackles on Clary's wrists, he's revealed to be Jace who takes a sample of Valentine's flesh to bring back to Lilith. He also says that the other piece Lilith needs for the ritual is Clary's heart, prompting Jace to take her with him.

Shadowhunters S03E08 "A Heart of Darkness" Recap

Clary is interrogated by Jia Penhallow about her visit to the city and a magical lie detector of sorts is used to ensure that they get all the information they're after from her. For starters, she reveals how the team was there to steal the Malachi Configuration.

Magnus tells Alec he is the strongest connection Jace has currently so he is the best chance of saving him. Magnus is worried about the risks of sending Alec into Jace's mind but Alec will not give up on Jace regardless of the risks. Izzy will go into Jace's mind with him and the only way to get Jace out is for all of them to be linked since Magnus will only have one chance to pull them all out.

Ollie reveals to Lilith that Simon has been gifted with the mark of Cain. Lilith sends some of her disciples out to search for Jace while she decides to pay a visit to the Seelie Queen to determine what sort of power has been bestowed upon Simon. Simon is meeting with Maia when Jordan pays them a visit and Maia tells Simon they have talked things out and he will continue to help him since it's what she wants.

As Clary continues to be questioned, she reveals the truth about Jace being possessed as well as using the angel's wish to resurrect him after his death at Lake Lyn. As punishment for breaking this rule Clary is sentenced to death.

Magnus struggles to get Alec and Izzy into Jace's mind until they decide to undo the Malachi Configuration and put him in chains that are strong enough to have held an angel captive for twenty-five years.

Simon, Maia, and Jordan team up to visit the location that Lilith was using as a lair in order to search for clues as to where she is now. Maia struggles with the emotional turmoil of Jordan being back in her life and nearly turns due to the uprising of emotions but Simon manages to calm her down. Maia later decides to leave the city, telling Simon she just needs some time to figure things out.

Lilith invades the Seelie realm and murders many of its inhabitants. The Seelie Queen leverages her knowledge of Jace's location in order to keep Lilith from killing her too.

Inside Jace's mind, Alec and Izzy have accidentally gotten separated. Izzy manages to gain the trust of a child version of Jace while Alec tracks down the adult version of Jace that has been forced to kill Clary over and over again and has even tried to kill himself in the hopes of making Lilith's torture stop. Jace is overcome with emotions upon realizing that Alec is really there in his mind with him and it's then that Izzy manages to find them too. Jace begs them to kill him, as he would rather die than continue to be trapped under Lilith's control but Alec insists that he will find a way to get him out and free. But just as they're preparing to leave Jace's mind together Lilith arrives and interrupts Magnus' work. She spares Magnus from death because she fears starting a war with his father but does threaten him before leaving with Jace back in her custody.

Shadowhunters S03E07 "Salt in the Wound" Recap

Following the reveal of Jace as the Owl demon, Clary follows him up to the roof and the two fight. Clary tries to get the real Jace to break through and tells him she loves him but Jace responds that he doesn't love her anymore and throws Clary off the roof. She falls onto a car below and falls unconscious.

Simon is feeling guilty about turning Heidi in to Praetor Lupus but Kyle assures him that he did the right thing. Maia comes over and is shocked to see Kyle, as he was the werewolf that turned her. Simon is outraged and leaves the apartment intent on following Maia until Clary calls him asking for help since she can't move from where she has fallen onto the roof of the car. Simon gets her back to the Institute where the team is reconvening and she is patched up from her encounter with Jace. The demon is finally identified as Lilith, Queen of Edom, using the Silent City archives and a drawing Clary put together after she faced it. Lilith had been Adam's first wife back in the Garden of Eden and the mother of all demons. Clary finally admits to the group that Jace really did die at the lake and that she made a wish to bring him back. Bringing him back is what made him vulnerable to being preyed upon by Lilith. Clary is prepared to take whatever punishment Alec sees fit but he only hugs her and admits that he would've done the same thing.

Luke calls Ollie's partner and warns her that she needs to go somewhere safe. Ollie is revealed to have killed her mother to fulfill the sacrifice for Lilith. This is the 33rd sacrifice which means that Jonathan should be nourished enough to rise again.

Magnus informs the group that he should be able to reverse Lilith's hold on Jace if they can capture and hold the Owl demon long enough for Magnus to work his magic. Izzy proposes using a piece of Clave technology that never made it into the field called the Malachi configuration. Malachi had invented a type of cage for Greater Demons that can be used to hold him. Magnus blames himself for giving Lilith the elixir and Alec assures him he's not to blame himself and the two resolve their fight, ready to move forward and save Jace.

Simon tracks down Maia and checks to see if she's okay. She is still shaken by seeing Jordan Kyle again and tells him she just wants to be alone for a bit while she works through it. Flashbacks start that show the beginnings and progression of Maia and Jordan's relationship. They met on the beach where he was preparing to go surfing and she was sitting reading Charles Dickens. They had made plans to run away to Fiji together but Kyle got scratched by a werewolf and lost his temper at her when she said she got a scholarship to a university which she wanted to pursue instead of running away with him. Maia broke up with Jordan and he began following her. She ordered him to stay out of her life and shortly thereafter he turned into a wolf, as it was conveniently the night of the full moon, and when he later woke up again as a human he found blood on his hand. Upon following the blood trail he found Maia lying on the ground nearby with a scratch on her neck. She asked Jordan what he was and he proceeded to run away.

Lilith orders Jace to go to Alicante to get to the Cemetery of the Disgraced. She wants a sample of flesh of Valentine, Jonathan's father, for the ritual.

Simon and Luke head out to investigate a lead on where Lilith has set up her lair. Luke also admits that he was the one that sent Praetor Lupus to help Simon though he didn't know they would send Maia's ex that turned her. Jordan Kyle has already made a call in to his superiors asking to be taken off the case despite the fact that leaving his assignment would mean severe punishment.

The shadowhunters head to Alicante to try to find Jace. Clary ponders if Jace would've been better off if he hadn't met her but Izzy assures her that he was happier after he met her than before. The shadowhunters try to warn the inquisitor that Jace has been possessed but Jace is still able to murder her in her office and steal her thumb to get into the Cemetery of the Disgraced. While the inquisitor is dying on the floor, she is able to draw a rune and send it out to Alec so they'll know that Jace is already here.

Simon and Luke make it to Lilith's lair. Luke tries to appeal to Ollie and make her remember who she really is but is unable to break through. Two of Lilith's 'children' try to attack Simon and his mark sends out a blast that disintegrates them into piles of salt.

The shadowhunters manage to trap Jace at the cemetery. When guards are approaching, Clary sends the rest of the group back to Magnus' place through a portal while she will be taken in for questioning at the Gard.

Maia shows up at Jordan's apartment just as he's about to leave with a letter he had written to explain everything to her. He shares how he was scratched on a camping trick and too scared to tell her what was really happening. He was still a new wolf and unable to control his Turns at the time when he scratched her. She is understanding of struggling to control Turns but what she can't fathom is that he would just leave her wounded without staying to check if she was okay. He then joined the Praetor to try to help others as a way of helping others but she still won't forgive him for what he has done. He says that he will be leaving the case but she orders him to stay, saying that he cannot abandon Simon the way he abandoned her.

Lilith learns from Ollie that there is a Daylighter walking around, which is how two of her disciples were turned to salt.

Shadowhunters S03E06 "A Window Into an Empty Room" Recap

Heidi holds a woman captive to feed on her and use her belongings to pamper herself in preparation of meeting Simon, who has been working with Kyle to test out the powers of his mark. When Simon returns to his apartment he finds Heidi waiting for him, saying that they're bonded forever. Simon encourages her to talk to Raphael since he was the one who dug her up, angering Heidi who reminds him that his blood runs through her veins. She tells them that they belong together and that he will see the truth of this eventually.

Alec is struggling about the idea of him growing old and feeble and a burden to Magnus. Magnus tries to reassure him but Alec takes what he's saying as a suggestion that he should have dated someone else before him. Izzy later advises Alec that what he and Magnus has is real and that they will find a way to make it work.

Alec's mother comes to visit him and Izzy and tells them she's found a place. She is also looking for Jace but no one seems to have noticed yet that he is missing since everyone thinks he has gone to get treatment for his mental health. In actuality, Jace is getting orders from Lilith to find the last virtuous mundane to complete the ritual to bring Jonathan back. Lilith says that she knows the real Jace is still buried inside and that when all this is through he will wake to find all his friends dead and his world burning at the hands of Jonathan.

Simon tells Maia about Heidi and she advises him to help Heidi since it can't be easy to be a new vampire without a support system. Simon decides to text Raphael to ask for some tips on how to be a good sire.

Izzy tells her mother to come out with her and Alec for a night out and she agrees on the condition that Izzy bring Charlie, the hot doctor she's been seeing.

Alec runs into Jace on the street and asks why he's back already. Jace claims that he has completed his treatment already and is cleared for duty. He comes back to the Institute and pretends like everything is okay but Clary is suspicious that something is off with him.

Simon goes to meet with Raphael but finds Heidi waiting for him, having catfished him with Raphael's phone. He tries to make amends for being dismissive before and says he's willing to help her as her sire but rejects her advances when she tries to kiss him, saying that he has a girlfriend. She pretends to be accepting of this information but appears to be furious after he leaves.

Clary visits Magnus for help in understanding what happened when the demon touched her before she passed out. He examines her magically and determines that the energy signature is from the same demon that corrupted the ley lines. Magnus magically sends a message to an old contact, Brother Zachariah, that should be able to help him identify the beast. Clary shares how Jace had been acting strange earlier and didn't seem to be happy to see her. Magnus advises her to be patient and then gets a message back form Zachariah that he's willing to meet tonight.

Simon gets back to his place and advises Maia that they need to go into hiding until they can figure out what to do about Heidi. Simon is worried about Maia's safety but she is confident she'll be able to handle any threat that should come for her.

Jace sets his sights on Charlie, the doctor Izzy has been seeing, to be the final victim in Lilith's ritual after meeting him at the family dinner with Izzy, Alec, and Maryse. While at the hunter's moon, Marlyse talks with Luke, who is kind to her about her being excommunicated. It's suggested that there is a flirtation that will blossom into something greater.

Magnus and Clary are waiting for Zachariah and Magnus opens up about the fight he had with Alec. Clary assures him that they will find a way to work it out. Zachariah arrives and Clary is shocked to learn from him that Jace never came to the Silent City for treatment. However, they do receive the information from him to aid in their quest to uncover the identity of the demon that's been threatening them.

Heidi watches Simon from outside the hunter's moon and sees him talking to Izzy, coming to the conclusion that she is his girlfriend instead of Maia. She tries to attack Izzy in a back room but Izzy is able to knock her own. She is prepared to kill Heidi but Simon hears the conflict and steps in to stop the fight. He promises that he will make sure she never hurts anyone again despite Izzy's wishes to turn her in to the Clave. Izzy inadvertently saves Charlie from being taken outside and possessed by Jace.

Simon brings Heidi back to where she's been staying and turns her in to the Praetor Lupus in the hopes that they'll be able to rehabilitate her. He seems saddened to not have been able to be the one to directly help her but Kyle assures him that he's doing the right thing.

Jace spots Ollie, Luke's cop partner, coming in to let him know about a lead she found on the recent murders. Jace follows her outside as she's leaving.

Clary and Magnus teleport back to the city and Magnus deduces that the woman who came to ask for the elixir to make someone fall out of love was the actual demon and they had stolen a sliver of Clary's soul in order to give to Jace.

Jace attacks Ollie as the Owl demon and Clary and Magnus run up on the scene as he's trying to possess her. Luke also arrives and shoots the Owl demon in the back multiple times after he has fought Clary and Magnus. This causes him to uncloak his disguise, showing everyone that the Owl is actually Jace. Jace uses his demonic abilities to escape and Ollie also scurries away, having now been possessed.

Shadowhunters airs on Tuesdays on Freeform at 8/7c.

Shadowhunters S03E05 "Stronger Than Heaven" Recap

Lilian pretends to be a friend of Ragnor Fell in order to gain Magnus' trust. She is searching for help in performing magic to make someone fall out of love. Magnus claims he can do this but recommends against it, saying that it's better to fall in love. She claims that it's for a former lover that's a soldier needing to stay focused on the task at hand. He gives her the elixir and says that it requires a sliver of her soul to be put into it an hour before it is administered as she is the supposed object of affection.

Jace tells Clary he's planning of going to the City of Bones for treatment from the Silent Brothers, as they have a history of helping Shadowhunters with mental health issues. She is concerned that if they can't help him that he is risking losing it all, including being a Shadowhunter. She wants to talk to Angels to ask for help with the situation, as she remains determined to help him no matter how difficult it may seem.

Alec asks Magnus if he can move in to his place. Magnus thinks it's a good idea for the future, saying they've only been dating for two months and that their relationship will change once they move in together. He says that one thing he's learned after being alive so long is to take your time in a relationship.

Simon has one of his gigs cancelled and doesn't know who sabotaged him by pretending to be his manager. Jace decides to help him to keep busy and also because Simon is important to Clary.

Izzy agrees to go on a date with the doctor and Clary encourages her to do so since having a few hours off from the investigation could be good for her well-being.

Clary confides in Luke about Jace dying in the battle against Valentine and using the wish from Raziel to bring him back. She is distraught at having to lie to everyone she loves and now Jace is struggling with something that she can't seem to help him with. She asks Luke to help her contact Cleophas in an effort to contact the angels for help.

Lilith summons a demon to go after Clary and retrieve a sliver of her soul.

Jace tells Simon that none of the werewolves from Luke's pack were the ones to cancel his gig. However, he becomes suspicious of his new place and how perfectly it seems to suit Simon's interests. He decides to snoop through Kyle's room and discovers a wolfsbane plant. When Kyle comes back and confronts them for going through his room, Jace forces him to admit that he's a werewolf. Kyle admits he's part of Praetor Lupus, a secret werewolf organisation that act as guardians. They only intervene in special downworlder cases. Kyle was sent in to assist the investigation into the blast Simon sent out. Simon is hurt at being betrayed and the fact that Kyle cancelled his gig. He is upset at being lied to yet again and says he is leaving.

Alec snoops through a box he had seen Magnus rifling through and discovers a photo of Magnus with an old lover, seemingly from the 1800s.

Clary and Luke visit Cleophas at a remote home in the woods and she finds out she has been unable to contact the angels. She is able to give Clary advice on how to contact Ithuriel herself since she has shown tremendous power and his blood already runs through her veins. Summoning an angel won't be without risks but it's up to Clary to decide if she wants to take it, which she decides to do in order to try to help Jace.

Izzy enjoys her date but has to take off when her amulet bracelet begins to glow. She follows the lead and encounters the demon in the alleyway that Lilith had conjured. When she tries to kill it by cutting it in half, they instead re-form into two that she still struggles to fight but still manages to kill. Lilith senses their demise and flies out, intent on getting the job done herself. Her date finds her in the alleyway and insists that she come to the hospital to get stitches on the cut on her forehead (which she was able to cover for by breaking her heel and pretending she tripped and fell).

Cleophus instructs Clary on how to summon Ithuriel. After the first steps are taken, Cleophus and Luke must leave Clary alone to complete the ritual or they risk being severely injured or even killed by any angels that may appear to her.

Jace tracks Simon down and advises him to accept Kyle's help since it's the best option he has at the moment.

Alec admits to snooping through Magnus' things, though Magnus already knew, and apologises for doing so. Magnus accepts his apology and tells him about George, who he says has been dead for over a century. He says that the rest of the items in the box aren't what belonged to George except for that one photograph. The other mementos are each from a loved one he outlived. Magnus is immortal which means that he is destined to outlive the ones he loves and he wants to be able to cherish the moments he does have with the ones he loves. Alec is more understanding after he gets all of the context, though the revelations are intense for him to process.

Clary successfully summons Ithuriel, who knows she's there because of Jace. She asks if Jace is struggling now because of her resurrecting him. He tells her that's not the reason but returning from death has left him vulnerable against a greater threat than they realise. He goes on to say that a great evil has arrived in the realm of the mundane who is the master of the Owl. But just as he's about to say its name, he is killed by Lilith. As Clary wakes to see the winged demonic creature flying over her, Lilith steals a sliver of her soul before flying away. Clary passes out and wakes in the cabin with Luke and Cleopha watching over her.

Simon agrees to let Kyle help him but only under the condition that he can continue to live his life, including performing at the gig that Kyle tried to cancel from him.

Jace visits Alec and tells him he will be going to get treatment for his mental health at the Silent City. Alec says he wants to come with him but Jace tells him this is a fight he has to face alone. He later meets up with Kyle and Simon at the bar where Simon performs his gig. While there, Lilith spikes Jace's drink with the elixir concocted to strip Jace of all the love he has ever felt for Clary. After he drinks from it, he goes back into his subservient trance.

Shadowhunters S03E04 "Thy Soul Instructed" Recap

Jonathan's mother shares how she was unable to bear a child for thousands of years before she finally had Jonathan. Since Jace was then to kill him, this is the reason she has chosen him to be her puppet to bring forth 33 disciples that will be used to resurrect Jonathan before she will kill Jace to complete her revenge. She commands him to go dispatch of the girl, Morgan, whom he lost while fighting off Isabelle and Clary. Jace heads back to the Institute, still in a trance, and doesn't snap out of it until Clary approaches him to ask where he's been and puts her hand on his shoulder. This breaks him out of his trance and he is shocked and confused to find that he is at the Institute and has no idea where he's been or how he got there. He shares how the last thing he remembers is fighting Jonathan at the club. Clary shares how the Owl can't be Jonathan because of Izzy's whip. Once again, Clary pushes Jace to let her tell others so he can get some help but he continues to refuse, saying it's too dangerous to tell anyone that she used the wish to resurrect him.

Alec has been questioning Morgan and the only thing she has been saying is a demand to be taken to Sarah. Morgan's twin sister is Sarah and based on the previous patterns of the victims, she has presumably been compelled to kill her since all the mundanes that have been possessed have then been compelled to kill a close loved one. Additionally, her cells appear to now be entirely demonic with no trace of being a regular mundane.

Maia argues with Luke over him kicking out Simon, saying that he's abandoning Simon when he's in need and he is playing into the bigotry against him.

Heidi attacks a blood bank truck and steals some bags to feed on before chasing the worker down to feed on him instead.

Simon has been living in his truck and encounters a delivery man named Kyle whom he accidentally causes to crash his bike. He offers to drive him to his next delivery since his bike was broken in the crash. The two get to talking and Kyle happens to be looking for a roommate. Although Simon had been hoping to find a place for himself since he needs his privacy due to being a vampire and a Daylighter with a new protective mark sparking chaos in his life, the offer proves too good to pass up and he agrees to move in.

Alec is still suspicious of what happened when his parabatai rune disappeared and the strange behaviour Jace has been exhibiting ever since he came back. He asks Clary if there's anything he needs to know and she denies anything, wanting to respect Jace's wishes for now. Alec talks to Jace, suggesting that he might have inherited his mother's propensity for mental illness but Jace lashes out, saying he's only trying to solve the case. But later he asks Luke about the symptoms his mother would exhibit before she killed herself and when Luke shares some, Jace appears concerned that it may apply to him. Luke does say how the one thing that tended to keep her steadier was being close to Jace's father. Luke tells Jace to remember to hang on to the good.

Clary and Izzy investigate the attack on the blood bank truck and the worker from it. The body of the worker is nowhere to be found but there are enough clues for them to realise that he must be dead. Meanwhile, Heidi tracks down Simon's old place of residence and enjoy sniffing some of his clothes before Raphael appears and tries to stake her before she uses some of the same sedative he had used on her to knock him out.

Alec expresses his worried about Jace to Magnus, who advises him not to lose hope.

While Clary and Izzy are investigating the vampire attack, Izzy admits that she still has feelings for Raphael but it's complicated for them to try to be together because they felt like they'd be too tempted by their old habits if they were in a relationship. The conversation is interrupted by Clary picking up on a tracking of the victim which means that they are still alive.

Heidi strips Raphael down to his boxers and chains him to a rooftop. She confronts him for resurrecting her just to be her guinea pig. He apologises and she reveals that she intends to keep him chained to the roof so he will burn once the sun rises. He says that he was only experimenting on her to try to give all vampires the power to walk in the sun. She reveals that the mundane she killed she then decided to turn into a vampire just as she was turned.

Jace is momentarily confronted by Jonathan's mother and doesn't recognise her until she retriggers the trance. She asks why he didn't fulfill her order to kill the mundane and he says that Clary and his love for her is what broke him free. She orders him once again to fulfill his mission and declares that she will take care of Clary.

Clary and Izzy find the hole in the basement where Heidi had buried Leo, the blood bank worker. He has already transformed into a vampire and refuses to give up the location of his sire. Clary and Izzy fight him and together are able to kill him.

Raphael is trapped on the rooftop and his foot is already exposed to the sun and as it continues to rise so does the burn up his leg. Clary and Izzy hear Raphael screaming on the roof and manage to get there in time to break him free and out of the sun. He claims to have followed a lead on the vampire and to not know who she is.

Jace, still in his trance, goes back to the Institute and heads to complete his mission of killing Morgan. He knocks out the security power and goes to the cell where Morgan is trapped. He assumes his Owl form and begins reciting a spell in Latin that sends her flying back into the concrete wall.

Clary, Alec, and Magnus head down to check on Morgan and find her lying on the ground. She wakes and is found to be free of all demonic possession.

Isabelle visits Raphael to confront him, having known that he was lying about not knowing who the vampire was. He admits to conducting experiments to be able to make the vampires into Daylighters. He claims he only wanted to be able to be with his family again and have a bit of normalcy back. Isabelle is devastated and promises not to report his crimes to the Clave on the condition that he leave the city that night.

Finally, Simon's new roommate Kyle is revealed to know Luke. They have a private phone call in which Kyle tells him to stay away, claiming that Simon belongs to the "Praetor" now.

Jace wakes in his room, more confused than ever, and clutches onto his family ring. Clary comes in and sees that something is wrong. He says that he was walking back from the Jade Wolf and doesn't know how he got back to the Institute. He admits that he is now worried that he's losing his mind.

Jonathan's mother Lilith visits Magnus, saying she needs his help with something. He lets her in, none the wiser as to who she is or what nefarious deeds she is up to.

Shadowhunters S03E03 "What Lies Beneath" Recap

Jace continues to struggle with visions of Jonathan tormenting him. Clary becomes worried by how hard he is pushing himself, even forgoing sleep in the process. Seven mundanes have been killed in the last 48 hours and Jace finally theorises that the so-called owl-faced demon they've spotted on surveillance footage is a glamour being used by Jonathan.

Simon realises that the mark the Seelie Queen marked onto his face has some sort of unknown power so she decides to return to the Seelie Realm to get answers about what it is.

Raphael spends time with Rosa, an elderly woman that is his last remaining relative. When he was alive, he was her older brother. He also struggles to deal with Heidi, a newly turned vampire that is acting up with very little impulse control about her hunger and abilities. She makes demands to be let go and to meet her sire but Raphael gives her a potent sedative to knock her out and keep her under control.

Jace and Clary still disagree about the demon being Jonathan. She believes he is truly dead and Jace decides to finally tell her about the nightmares he's been having. He believes that Jonathan will emerge on an upcoming mission in order to finish what he started.

Raphael gets the news that his sister Rosa has died, leaving him devastated. He won't be able to attend her funeral because it will be happening during the day and Isabelle offers to attend it on his behalf.

Clary confides in Isabelle about her concerns about Jace's lack of sleep and his paranoia about Jonathan. Isabelle decides to come with them on the upcoming mission, leaving Alec and Magnus alone to have dinner with Alec's mother. She reveals that the investigation has been reopened into former Circle members because of Malachi's coup. As a result, the Clave has reclassified her as a traitor. Her runes will be stripped in a few day and then she will be exiled from Alicante. She shares how she was the one to recruit many people because she believed Valentine was the answer and didn't leave until she realised how wrong she was. Despite Alec's outrage at the punishment she is being dealt, she insists that the punishment is just. Alec wants to step down from his position but his mother insists that he stay put and be better than those from her generation were. She apologises to Magnus for her past prejudices against him and asks Alec not to tell Isabelle and Jace, since she wants to tell them herself.

Simon tries to ask Raphael for information about the Daylighter legend but Raphael is too distraught to want to help or talk. The tension escalates until Raphael tries to attack Simon and the mark projects a protective blast that knocks Raphael back. Simon later tries to get into the Seelie Realm but finds that he is locked out, though Maia promises to help him find the answers he is looking for.

Jace is at the club accompanied by Clary and Isabelle. They are all keeping an eye out. Isabelle is momentarily distracted when a hot doctor she previously had a flirtation with approaches her to ask for her number. Jace has a confrontation with Jonathan, though it still remains uncertain if those are just hallucinations. Clary and Isabelle realise that Morgan, the mundane they were supposed to be guarding, has gone missing. They find her phone broken and follow the sounds of her screaming outside where she is being attacked by the owl-faced demon. They are too late to stop Morgan from being possessed. Isabelle takes off chasing her while Clary faces off against the demon. She tells the demon to show their face, calling them Jonathan. The demon appears intrigued by the mention of this name and lets Clary go before flying off.

Luke visits Simon and delivers the bad news that he can no longer stay there because of the recent manifestations of his powers and the harm they caused to the wolves.

Raphael returns to his place and learns that Heidi has attacked another vampire there and escaped.

Morgan is locked up at the Institute to protect herself and others. Isabelle and Clary are uncertain where Jace is since he has been missing since they lost him at the club. Isabelle tells Clary that the demon isn't Jonathan because she got her whip on it and the electrum didn't react. Finally, the owl-faced demon is revealed to be Jace who doesn't seem to be aware while working in a sort of trance. However, the blood is being collected in an effort to revive Jonathan.

Shadowhunters S03E02 "The Powers That Be" Recap

Magnus brings Ale to a party and a ope of earthquake breaks out, indicating that the leylines have been disrupted since many of the supernatural people in attendance lose control of their magic. The following morning, a warlock leader named Lorenzo visiting Magnus to accuse him of corrupting the leyline underneath his home. Lorenzo suspects that Asmodeus, a user of dark magic that was banished to Edom, is the one whose magic was involved. Lorenzo believes that Magnus used Asmodeus' magic to do this. Alec overhears the conversation from the bathroom. When they talk about it after Lorenzo leaves, Alec is surprised to learn that Asmodeus is Magnus' father. They decide to work together to track Asmodeus down.

Jace asks Clary out for their first proper date but he feels nervous about trying to make it good for her. He even calls Simon for tips on what restaurant to take her to. But since Jace forgets to make a reservation, the only way they can be seated is to be seated at a communal table, coincidentally next to Simon and Maia who are out on a date of their own. Though the foursome try to make the best of an awkward situation, the good vibes are squashed when it's accidentally revealed that Jace and Maia once slept together.

Luke consults with Isabel about the cases that have popped up recently in which good people inexplicably turn bad. They all seem to be supernaturals connected but they have yet to figure out what is causing their violent tendencies to manifest. While Luke and Isabel work on their investigation, he advises her to find time for herself to fall in love.

Alec visits Lorenzo and sneaks Magnus in so he can secretly work to trace the magic that was used to corrupt the ley line beneath Lorenzo's home. Lorenzo rushes back downstairs when he hears a crash caused by Magnus getting thrown into a wall. Magnus is able to hide from Lorenzo catching him but he later tells Alec that the magic he traced was from Edom but it's not his father. It's something much worse and more evil than that.

After the awkward double-date, both Jace and Clary and Simon and Maia reaffirm their feelings for one another. Maia assures Simon that she doesn't want to be with anyone but him and he doesn't resent her for sleeping with Jace before they were together. Jace tells Clary that the only reason why he gets nervous in his approach to dating her is because of the depth of his feelings for her and not wanting to ruin what they have.

Alec brings the issue of the leylines to the Institute and declares that they must solve this problem or else everyone in the city is artist. The first step is to evacuate all the Institute so they can use the angelic core to flood the leylines with angelic energy. Since the Institute isn't built on any leylines, Magnus will need to use his magic to divert it the energy from the core to the leylines. But if something goes wrong, there is a risk of the Institute being blown up.

When Alec and Magnus try to put their plan into action, they struggle to complete it because one of the other Shadowhunters Raj has locked Magnus out of the system. This forces Alec to release the valve manually. The angelic energy is released and the ritual that Jonathan's mother was trying to perform is disrupted though her altar is unharmed. Alec and Magnus know that the threat that disrupted the leylines is still out there and needs to be stopped. Magnus says he hopes that Alec doesn't judge him for who his father is and Alec assures him that he still loves him.

Jace has another nightmare of killing Clary. He goes to meet with Isabel who asks for his help identifying a demon from footage of it possessing an innocent on the streets.

Some werewolves that disapprove of Simon dating Maia try to force him out of the boathouse where he's been living and are intent on killing him if he puts up a fight. When one of the wolves tries to attack him with a bat, a blast of energy shoots out of Simon and sends the wolf flying back. The mark the Seelie Queen gave Simon is shown to start glowing blue when this happens before returning to normal. Maia walks up in time to witness the entire incident.

Shadowhunters S03E01 "On Infernal Ground" Recap

Clary goes through the ceremony to receive the rune of the Angel and become a fully fledged Shadowhunter. She is commended for stopping Valentine from using a wish from the Angel. What everyone except her and Jace don't know is that she used the Angel's wish to resurrect Jace after he was killed in battle. Alec is suspicious of what happened at Lake Lyn because he felt Jace die and his parabatai had disappeared when that happened. He is grateful that Jace is alive but still confronts Clary about the matter after her Shadowhunter ceremony. Jace warns Clary that no one can know what she has done to save him.

Luke's colleague Ollie has been pestering him to give her answers about the strange happenings she has encountered in the city. She has scratches on her arm that are scarred from an attack she experienced over four years ago. It was a wolf but the paramedics claimed it was a dog attack. She began researching and became convinced that was a werewolf. Luke is dismissive of her claims but she won't be swayed from her suspicions of the existence of werewolves.

Jonathan's newly resurrected mother goes to the hospital to look at the newborn babies. She meets a kind doctor whom she later attacks on the street in her demonic form and blows a toxic, supernatural substance into his mouth. When the doctor returns home he viciously slits the throat of his wife when she returns home from a business trip.

Alec is offered a promotion in the Shadowhunters ranking and tells Magnus about this. Alec is torn about whether to accept the job because it would mean moving to Idris where Magnus would be unable to visit him.

Clary gets to choose her signature weapon and decides on a pair of dual kindjals. Jace later has a nightmare of being intimate with Clary before Jonathan appears and tells Jace to stab Clary in the heart. Jace and Clary try to fight Jonathan off but she is stabbed in the struggle. He drops the knife by her body before walking off in the rain.

Simon visits the Seelie Queen at her request and orders her soldiers to hold him still so he can be branded with a make that fades a few seconds after it is placed on his forehead. The Seelie Queen tells him that only a Daylighter would be able to survive the ceremony.

Luke and Ollie are called in to investigate the murder of the doctor's wife. Luke immediately determines that there is something supernatural at play. He heads to meet with the Shadowhunters to get their help in investigating the case.

Raphael visits Magnus and asks for a powerful vampire tranquilizer to help him sleep. He has been struggling to do so ever since he found out his last living relative is dying.

Isabelle meets and flirts with a good-looking doctor named Charlie while she and Chase are at the hospital to investigate the recent murder. Clary is with Luke and tells her that the new weapons she has picked out belonged to her mother and father. Their conversation is interrupted by Ollie calling Luke to say that she's found the doctor wandering the streets. Luke warns her to not approach him but she goes after him anyway right before he's set to meet with his grandfather. The doctor whooshes away using a supernatural speed ability that has manifested since Jonathan's mother started performing a ritual on him. Ollie follows after him but when he starts to move towards her, the bullets she shoots do nothing to stop him.

Luke appears in his werewolf form to try to fight the doctor but he gets thrown away and knocked out before Ollie suffers the same fate. Clary attacks the doctor next but when she tries to use a rune on him, a winged creature bursts out of him and flies off. Clary tries to catch the creature and taunts it into attacking her. When it gets close enough she uses her angelic rune to kill the creature, causing Jonathan's mother to cry out in agony at feeling the loss of her creature.

Simon demands to know what the Seelie Queen has done to him and to be released to go home. She says he's free to leave and gives him an ominous warning that where he goes, darkness will follow even if he is in daylight.

Ollie is brought to the hospital to be tended to. She tells Luke that he was the wolf that saved her and he relents, admitting that everything she saw was real. He apologises for lying, saying that all the legends are true.

Simon meets with Maia and explains that he was missing because he was with the Seelie Queen. He says he had to do it because it was the only way that Maia would be able to leave the realm. He says he did what she wanted because he couldn't live knowing that Maia was in danger. Maia chastises him but is nonetheless grateful.

Alec confronts Magnus for not being forthcoming with his feelings, more specifically that he is upset about the idea of Alec leaving for Idris. Magnus apologises for not being better at communicating his feelings. Magnus admits that he doesn't want Alec to move to Idris. He doesn't want to control Alec's life but wants to be honest about how he feels. Alec assures him that he's not going anywhere.

Jace enjoys an inmate moment with Clary that is eerily similar to his earlier nightmare. He is shaken and asks Clary if he can just hold her.

Jonathan's mother sends one of her creatures to bring forth her other disciples.
