Brooklyn Nine-Nine S06E01 "Honeymoon" Review
When word got out about the cancellation of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" the internet immediately spun into an uproar with both civilian fans and even big-name celebrity fans of the show expressing their upset over the news. Now that the series has been resurrected by NBC the question remains as to how the show will hold up.
We couldn't be more delighted to share that things are just as charming and hilarious as ever with this season premiere. Jake and Amy are gifted the opportunity to go on a luxurious honeymoon due to the payout from their wedding insurance. But things go awry when Holt is passed over for a promotion and decides to go lick his wounds at the same resort as Jake and Amy are attempting to enjoy their honeymoon bliss.
What Holt's turmoil offers is a more vulnerable side to his character, considering how hilariously stoic he often is, as well as a deeper insight to the connection that has been forged between these lead characters. Jake being so willing to go out of his way to help console Holt and Amy eventually standing up to him for not snapping out of his funk presents character development and evolution for both of them after all these years of working with him.
Additional comedy and quality character insight are presented back at the station when Gina and Boyle have a family conflict in the form of their parents divorcing. When it's finally revealed that Gina pushed her mother to divorce Boyle's father because she knew her mother wasn't being faithful, it offers a more warm-hearted dimension to her character, given that much of her comedic dialogue comes from her being self-absorbed. With only half an hour per episode to incorporate and explore so many character in the ensemble, it's moments like these that offer an important reminder that the characters present, including Gina, are more than their particular flavors of comedy.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine airs on Thursdays on NBC at 9/8c.
