True Blood Recap: She’s Not There

Season Four finally begins. To check the recap of the first 8 minutes of the recap, please check our other recaps.
Granddaddy Earl  pushes Sookie in as takes a leap go into the portal. They fall back home to the grave yard, its daylight. Bill and Eric both open their eyes. Granddaddy Earl is weak, he’s had the light fruit. He’s aging fast, as he heads to Adele’s grave. He gives Sookie a watch to give to Jason, as he says goodbye, and is gone in a puff of dust.
Sookie heads home to find men working on her house, inside and out. One of the workers tries to stop her, threatening to call the police. Jason comes, dressed as a police officer, overjoyed to see her. She’s been gone twelve and a half months. Jason sold the house. He doesn’t believe her about where she’s been until she gives him the watch.
At dusk Bill arrives promptly. He immediately knows that she was with Claudine, he hadn’t felt her for all the time she was gone. Eric shows up shortly after, he was the only one that never gave up on her. Bill tells him to go, and he does. Another sheriff car comes, this time its Andy Bellefleur. He’s both happy and upset to see her, emphasis on the upset, especially when she says that no one took her. Things have very much changed around Bon Temps. She tells Bill to everyone else she’s been gone a year, but to her, its only been a few minutes since he shattered her heart.
Jason asks if Andy is using again. Andy claims he isn’t, but Jason finds his stash of V and he confiscates it.
Jesus and Lafayette head to a coven meeting. It’s been a few months since his last vision. He’s skeptical to say the least. Holly is there as well. Marnie comes out of her trance, seeing Lafayette, she calls him over. She asks if he knows anyone named Eddie, she offers him an invisible rose, and when he goes to grab it, she grabs his hand, and channeled Eddie. Lafayette freaks out.
Arlene comes in to find her baby with a bunch of headless dolls. Arlene freaks out. Terry tries to explain it away, saying it’s a boy thing. She still worries about the baby being Renee’s and therefore evil.
Tara kicks some butt in the ring.
Jessica watches TV, and Hoyt comes home to an empty fridge. He makes a little comment about her not cooking, but eating him, and she angrily cooks him some eggs. He eats them, though they are clearly not cooked, and her anger melts into giggles, as she takes the plate away before he gets sick.
Jason and Sookie sit on the couch and has a little moment.
Pam sits doing a TV spot, but she’s very droll to Nan’s dislike. Eric delivers a much better, and sexier message. Bill delivers a speech, very politician like, as he praises Portia Bellefleur during the ribbon cutting. Nan is much happier with Eric as spokesman.

Tara takes a smoke break, and kisses the girl she beat in the ring. A drunk propositions the two girls. Tara takes his money, but walks off. The girl, Naomi calls her Toni.
Sookie comes back to work, and finds out that Tara is gone, and Lafayette has no clue where. Sam is very prickly, he lets her come back, but only part time. Jesus comes to visit Lafayette, but Lafayette is still upset thinking he was set up. Jesus wants him to believe in magic, more than anything. Andy comes to see Lafayette for some V, claiming its police business he's on. Jason intervenes, and sends Andy away.
Mrs. Fortenberry come, with Tommy Mickens. He’s walking funny and seems to be changed. Sam is going to anger management and paying for Tommy to go the physical therapy.
Tara and Naomi are having a good roll in bed, when she receives a text from Lafayette. She tells the Naomi that its from her father about her grandmother, and she needs to return home.
Sookie sits down with Portia. She’s tracked down the buyer of her house, and she’s working on getting Sookies house back, and as she talks Sookie hears her thoughts. Seems Portia and Bill have been spending some time together.
Jessica dances at Fangtasia as Hoyt watches on. A human, Matt tries to pick her up, and as she listens to his heartbeat she hesitates for a minute. Hoyt brings Jessica a blood martini and apologizes, she runs off in tears. In the bathroom, she can’t bring herself to take a drink. Pam knocks on the door, and sees its Jessica. She tries to talk some sense into her, saying she’s watched her eyefucking fangbangers the entire night. Jessica leaves in a huff.
Sam discusses Tommy and his feelings in a sort of support group that all happen to be shifters. They change to horses and go for a night time run.
Jason heads to Hotshot, with food and goods for the whole town. Crystal is still gone, and he’s stuck taking care of everyone, but the responsibility looks really good on him. He goes to see whats wrong with the cold box, and someone knocks him out and locks him inside.
The wiccans sit around a circle, summoning a spirit back into Marnie's dead bird. She urges them on with an unfamiliar chant, making Lafayette join anc complete the circle. As he joins hands with everyone, a shiver runs through the circle. She chants in latin, and the bird comes back to life taking flight, it flies towards Lafayette and drops back down dead when it exits the circle.
One of the coven members goes to see the king, which is now Bill.
Sookie exiting her shower and goes to dress, Eric catches her towel. He was able to come in because she no longer owned the house, he owns it, and he lays claim on her, dropping fang.

This Just In: USA Teams with DC Comics for Burn Notice Graphic Novel

USA NETWORK TEAMS WITH DC COMICS TO UNVEIL ITS FIRST DIGITAL INTERACTIVE GRAPHIC NOVEL WITH “Burn Notice”

Debuting with an Impressive 100,000 Page Views, Premiere Issue Offers a
Multi-Platform Interactive Experience

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – June 24, 2011 – USA Network, in partnership with DC Comics, announced its first series of interactive multiplatform comics with a series created to bridge the storylines between seasons four and five of Burn Notice.  The comic, entitled A New Day and written by the creative team behind the show, including series creator Matt Nix, goes beyond the two-dimensional traditional comic by offering enhanced user experiences including interactive games, hidden ciphers, artwork peelaways and more.  Chapter one went live in tandem with the fifth season premiere of Burn Notice last evening on Thursday, June 23. Having garnered 100,000 page views since it launched, A New Day is available on usanetwork.com, Facebook and as a freestanding iOS and Android App on select devices.

“As a life-long graphic novel reader, naturally I was very excited to extend our storyline to this medium because it allows us to expand and develop our Burn Notice universe into an entirely new realm,” said Matt Nix, creator and executive producer, Burn Notice. “In terms of the comic book itself, it’s not like the ones I grew up with. Now we have the opportunity to see the characters and their lives, but from a different perspective, one that fans can interact with, play with and share.”

A New Day, the first-of-its kind interactive comic book, gives fans insight into the series’ first-ever time jump. During last season’s finale, Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) obtained a list of 31 people responsible for “burning” him, but when fans return this season only two will be left. The comic reveals the missing pieces over 12 weeks through an original story.  With custom illustrations from comic book powerhouse DC Comics, the comic book features original video, unique interactive features and gaming content with new chapters launching each week throughout the season.

“Working with innovative partners, we’ve created a dynamic and fun interactive comic book that gives our fans a level of engagement that they’ve never had before,” said Jesse Redniss, vice president of digital, USA. “We are pushing the technology boundaries to enhance the user experience beyond the one-hour telecast and expanding the story arc into new arenas.”

The Burn Notice graphic novel includes the following features:

Each new issue will include new interactive games, ciphers and advice from your friendly spymaster
“Peelaways” revealing the multiple steps of the art process including pencil, ink and color layers
Exclusive video such as preview clips and interviews with Matt Nix
Burn Wire: newsfeed featuring Burn Notice related Facebook and Twitter feeds
Real time connections to Burn Notice Chatter with unprecedented access to communications with other fans and the network
Detailed character profiles and photos of the characters from the show
Share comic book panels and comments via Twitter, Facebook or Chatter

In addition to working with DC Comics, USA teamed with Panelfly, who built the mobile applications, and Glow Interactive who developed the online and Facebook versions, as well as the mobile interactive overlays.
Burn Notice stars Jeffrey Donovan as Michael Westen, a blacklisted spy who finds himself stranded in sun-soaked Miami. This season viewers will find out if Michael has found his way back into the CIA, if he’ll return to Miami and whether or not he and Miami’s new counterintelligence expert, Jesse Garcia (Coby Bell) can co-exist.  Also heating up South Beach are Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar), the beautiful ex-IRA operative and Michael’s ex-girlfriend; Sam (Bruce Campbell), our favorite washed-up military intelligence muscle; and Michael’s mother (Emmy Award-winner Sharon Gless), who is one tough cookie herself.  From Fox Television Studios and Fuse Entertainment, the series is created, written and executive produced by Matt Nix with Mikkel Bondesen and Alfredo Barrios as executive producers.

USA Network is the #1 network in all of basic cable and is seen in over 102 million U.S. homes.  A division of NBCUniversal, USA is the cable television leader in original series and home to the best in blockbuster theatrical films, acquired television series and entertainment events. The award-winning USA website is located at www.usanetwork.com. Characters Welcome.

Crawl to Me takes place in an isolated country town during the frigid winter months. The story centers on a young family as they cope with a series of disturbing events that force them to question their relationship, their faith and their very existence. When husband and wife, Ryan and Jessica, move into their first home together, strange things begin to occur. Half-eaten animals and other remains are found inside the basement’s crawl space. Their family dog disappears within the house.  Distant voices are heard from beneath the floorboards. The couple begins to think that an evil entity is living inside their walls and nothing can prepare them for what they’ll discover. Ryan and Jessica soon realize that they must set aside all they believe to be true, in order to face their inevitable reality.

"I couldn't have been happier to do Wire Hangers with Alan," said Chris Ryall, IDW's Chief Creative Officer, "and to see him stretch in different areas here is even more gratifying. This is a dark, psychologically affecting and surprisingly intimate story that I'm happy to foist on an unsuspecting comic-reading public. Put another way, if you survived Wire Hangers with any part of your psyche intact, Crawl to Me should help finish the job."

In related news, Robert has formed a new film production company, called Wasted Talent Entertainment. The first project in the pipeline is a live-action film adaptation of Robert's own horror/crime graphic novel, Wire Hangers. Robert created, wrote and illustrated the book last year, which was published by award-winning comics publisher, IDW Publishing (30 Days of Night, Locke and Key, Zombies Vs. Robots). IDW's CEO, Ted Adams, is on board as the film's Executive Producer, with Robert and ZAM Entertainment's Jeff Mazzola (Descent, Under New Management, Kiss Me Again) attached as Producers. Teaser poster art for the film reveals Wire Hangers’ main character, Cypra, in full costume designed by Robert Hall of Almost Human FX (The Crazies, Paranormal Activity 2, Devil). Wasted Talent Entertainment is actively pursuing a short list of choice directors and screenwriters for the film. Visit the official movie website, at wirehangersmovie.com.

A double-disc set entitled 20 Years Strong: River Runs Red - Live in Brussels (I Scream Records) is in stores worldwide.

Robert is also wrapping up the writing process for his new Spoiler NYC album, titled Banned in 38 States.  Robert is the lead vocalist/bassist for the New York based, punk-trio. Banned in 38 States will be the sophomore release for Spoiler NYC, following their 2007 debut, Grease Fire in Hell's Kitchen (SOS Records/I Scream Records).  Two new exclusive tracks, produced by Grammy-Award winning producer, Ken Lewis (Lenny Kravitz, Beastie Boys, Fall Out Boy) can be heard online.

True Blood Collectible Entertainment Weekly Covers

We don't usually do this, but these covers are just too hot to not post, plus it's easy to figure out that just like the rest of the world, we here at MuseLed are suffering from a little true blood withdrawl.

As much as I appreciate any opportunity to have a shirtless Joe Manganiello (aka Alcide), he is one sexy beast afterall, but can't we get a shirtless Alexander Skarsgard (Eric) once in a while too. That Swedish God shouldn't be so covered up! Between the shirt, jacket and glasses Stephen Moyer (Bill) and Alex look the part of the farmer, where as Joe just looks like the naughty farm hand. And Anna Paquin (Sookie) is stunning, as always. All three covers hit stands Friday, June 24th!

In Review: Crawl To Me by Alan Robert

The first issue of Crawl To Me  has yet to hit stands, July 13th, but we’ve got an advanced copy for review. It has a creepy but classic premise, a young family moves into a new home, but the house may hold secrets that will shatter their entire existence.
The story takes place during the winter months, the landscape washed in white. In this first installment, we’re introduced to Ryan Shelby and his dog Max. His wife Jessica, and daughter Grace are off screen.
Not all is right in the neighborhood, when Ryan sees the unexpected, but is it real or hallucination? And when Max returns with a grim surprise it just adds to the horror.
This first outing leaves me with mixed feelings. The artwork is gritty, muted colors and splashes of red with the occasional fluorescent for impact, it works for the story, blurring the lines of reality. The creep factor is very high. Fans of Alan Robert will enjoy the twisting dementia of the character, and the curve ball of delusion. And while I have confidence in Alan Robert, I’m not quite sure if the series can live up to the hype and deliver real scares as it progresses. A solid first outing, and  good foundation if he can keep the creep factor high, without making it seem too comical, it'll be another sure-fire fan favorite.
Check your local comic book stores beginning July 13th for this one!

This is a dark, psychologically affecting and surprisingly intimate story that I'm happy to foist on an unsuspecting comic-reading public. Put another way, if you survived Wire Hangers with any part of your psyche intact, Crawl to Me should help finish the job."

“All my life, I’ve been told that I have a warped and twisted imagination. So, with these horror stories, I’m finally putting my morbid thoughts to good use,” says Robert. “When Wire Hangers was received so well by comic and horror fans last year, it really inspired me to continue creating stories in the medium. With Crawl to Me, I wanted to go even darker, but, don’t be fooled. This is not your typical, run-of-the-mill, haunted house story. It’s more of a thriller, filled with a ton of demented mind-games that will keep you guessing. Think of it like a Twilight Zone episode on steroids.”

SUPER 8

Release date: June 10, 2011

Aliens, small town, group of young friends, strange happenings, If you think this sounds like a Steven Spielberg project, you'd be write. Although Super 8 was directed and written by J.J. Abrams, it's easy to see why Spielberg was attracted to it. There were times during the movie that reminded me of Stand By Me and E.T. Even so, Super 8 is neither of these. Glimpses of a reflection in a mud puddle, large trees and buildings flattened, people and animals disappearing, keep one wondering what was in the train wreck. This is a true thriller. No horror, limps flying around, zombies eating people, wait, there actually is a zombie.

Super 8 revolves around a group of school friends that are making a zombie movie for a contest. While filming at night at a train station, they decide to use an incoming train as background for the scene. Then the train crashes into an oncoming truck. Chaos ensues, explosions, scattering kids, and bits of train fly everywhere. The one unbelievable part for me is the man driving the truck survives.

The next day, strange things begin happening. The kids continue filming their movie using the train wreck and military presence as a back drop. The kid directing & writing the zombie film can't believe his good fortune, but soon the military starts evacuating the town. The zombie movie feature is brilliant. It lends just the right amount of comedy to suspense.

The kids finally receive the developed film and just like in past suspense movies, we don't see what climbed out of the train on the screen. We see it when one kid points to the other's stomach who is in front of the screen. As he looks down, we see a dark figure on his shirt that definitely is not human.

There are some common Spielberg elements; kids coming of age, death in the family, parents and kids not seeing eye-to-eye. The young actors are excellent and hold their own against seasoned actors. I especially was impressed with Elle Fanning. There's a scene where she is rehearsing for the zombie movie. I sat there along with the movie cast, just amazed at her 2 minute portrayal of an older married woman not wanting to leave her husband. She can definitely step into a serious dramatic role tomorrow and will probably earn awards in the future.

I wasn't sure what to expect. Horror, sappy, E.T. remake, supernatural forces, but it really is a well done movie. Super 8 is a surprise and I think every age group will enjoy it.

COMING TO A THEATER NEAR YOU

When I was at that movies this weekend, I saw trailers for movies I didn't care about, movies I can't wait for, and those inbetween. Some, I still don't care about, but I was surprised by some that I had written off. So I decided to discuss those that interested me.

Zookeeper
Release Date: July 8th 2011
L
Looks like the classic boy has a shallow girlfriend, boy loses said girl, boy tries to get girl back movie. The difference with this movie? Kevin James and talking animals. Kevin James is a zookeeper who thinks about changing jobs to get his ex-girlfriend back. The animals want him to stay, so they decide to break their silence and help him get her back. The dialogue could make or break this movie, but the animals look freakin’ adorable and Kevin James is hil-ar-i-ous. The more previews I see, the more I want to see this movie. I just hope the studio held back some of the funny scenes for the movie.

Captain America
Release date: July 22nd 2011

So far, I’ve seen all the movies leading up to The Avengers (scheduled for release in 2012).
Hulk - Ok
Iron Man 1 & 2 – Great
Thor – Awesome
Captain America - ???
I’ve seen snippets and I’m not impressed. A soldier in red, white, and blue uniform battles alongside regularly dressed soldiers. Not too amazing.
Today I saw a longer trailer. I have to say, I’m more impressed. Seems Tony Stark’s Father is involved with making Capt. America. A scrawny guy, Steve Rogers, gets turned down for enlistment in the army. He then volunteers for an experiment to make a super soldier. This film just got way more interesting to me. Now the wait is on.

Straw Dogs
Release date: September 16th 2011

Another movie I wasn’t excited about. I always figured I’d see because Alexander Skarsgard (Generation Kill, True Blood) stars in it. I like James Marsden also, but not enough to run to the box office. The synopsis just didn’t grab me. A screenwriter moves with his wife to her hometown in the Deep South. The locals and ex-boyfriend start to stir up trouble and the couple have to fight for their lives. Then I saw the trailer. Wow, the filming, directing, and acting shown appears much better than the written scenario. This is one I definitely will see.

Cowboys and Aliens
Release date: July 29th 2011

What can I say? Director Jon Favreau, Actors Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell, Clancy Brown, Walton Goggins, and Keith Carradine. What could be bad? Well, ok, we’ve seen big budget films with well-known actors flop in the past. I doubt this will be one of them.
Arizona Territory, 1873, a stranger with no memory and an odd wrist shackle stumble into a town that doesn’t welcome him. Then, something about aliens grabbing people and fighting ensues. C’mon, it’s Jon Favreau and Daniel Craig. This promises to be a fun journey discovering who Craig’s character is with lots of action and stuff blowing up. It’s Jon Favreau; there will always be some comedy along with the absurd. That’s what makes his films great.

True Blood Recap: Next Two Minutes of Season Four

True Blood has been teasing its viewers for the past couple of weeks with little snipets of the premier of season four, and this week is no exception, revealing two more minutes of the episode, so let’s dig in.
As all chaos breaks loose, Queen Mab orders to not let Sookie escape, and the “fairies begin throwing microwave bombs. Other fairies say that they can help, even at the risk of their own lives. An all out microwave ball fight starts. The fairy takes her to the edge of a big hole, but only Sookie can go through because she has not eaten the light fruit. Of course she’s feeling less than trusting at the moment. He tells her that his sister is the one that brought her, making him possibly Claude, and that she did so to save her from the crown that wishes to close the portals between the realms, which his side does not want. Earth was once their world too, and it is their right to travel there. Mab spots them on the threshold of the portal, and raises her microwave hands to close it before Sookie can leave. As the portal crumbles, Sookie and looks like Granddaddy both go in.

The fairies are fun and all, and I have no doubt that Ball has some craziness up his sleeve, but seeing Sookie, but no Alcide, Eric, Pam or the rest makes waiting suck just as much.

In Review: Hit List by Laurell K. Hamilton

Published 6/7/11 336 pages
Publisher: Berkley Hardcover
Format: Hardcover
ISBN: 978-0425241134
The latest offering in the Anita Blake series, finds Anita out of town on official Marshal duty trailing a group of killers murdering non-clan tigers. Being on official duty is both a blessing and a curse for the story. It means none of her normal bevy of lovers are surrounding her, big yay and small boo cause that also means basically no Richard, which I know is a good thing, but I can’t help myself I do love him. But on the other hand there is not Nathaniel, Jean-Claude, or Micah, no vampire politics, which is kind of weird and wonderful. Is there no Master of the City here? But it also means we get lots of Edward time, which in turn leads to Bernardo and Olaf time which is always a good time.
The case brings Anita to Seattle, which could be any city really, since we don’t see the city, are only told it is Seattle and that the cops and Marshals on the case are unfamiliar. And as much as I love the Marshal aspect of the story, the pissing contest gets a little old, especially this far into the game. I get it, Anita is pretty and dainty and sleeping with the monsters, but the extreme prejudices and constant little dog syndrome/ Napoleon complexes is tiresome. Even if it is realistic, does so much time and woe is me, I’m a girl but I’m as tough as the guys and have to overcompensate to prove it crap have to take up so much page space? I think not, and really, in the Marshals’s defense there wasn’t a lot of actual case work done on her part because she knew the culprits the entire time, the Harlequin, that super-secret vampire and shifter group that cannot be named, and spent most of her time look for ways to go off and hunt them on her own. And she did bring not 1 but 2 of her lovers out, granted after the accusations had been made, but out with her on the case none the less, which did distract her.
And speaking of the big bad, the Harlequin and Marmee Noir have been built up in the series for a very long time, and here they were such a let down. I mean I’m not completely surprised, because how could she really go up against the legendary and survive but I expected a bigger payout. And since Jake was former Harlequin why was he not there, because wouldn’t that werewolf be a huge asset here? Maybe I missed something.
However a couple of key twists, which were probably the least surprising ever, have set up the next arc and their expected conclusion, which hopefully will have bigger surprises and a better conclusion than this one did.
Relationships have shifted. Anita has always been sort of awkward about sex, even if she does engage in a gratuitous amount, but her relationship with Edward has always been more mentor and ally, but never a hint of sexual. He’s always been the yin to her yang, but never so fiercely protective to the point of obsessive. I love Edward, he has the best toys, and that cold confidence is sexy, he always brings more to the table than the others but not everyone has to fall into bed with Anita, and this one feels more and more inevitable, which is sad. Same with Olaf, creepy, psychotic Olaf seems closer to hoping into bed with Anita than Bernardo ever could every time he steps on the page. And back a few books, I wouldn’t have minded a good tumble with Bernardo. And the new Olaf, may even be creepy than the old Olaf.
There is less arduer which is a blessing, a big huge hallelujah but doesn’t keep Anita from finding a new lover. And I mean seriously, when is enough, enough. She has so many men I lose track, most of which we never see, and many I forgot she slept with, why continue to add more unless they bring something to the story, more than filler, please be more than filler, because I this one doesn’t get on my nerves like some of the others. I feel like I need a spreadsheet to keep track, or a world book, can I get a world book with a neatly laid out sex track record?
Over all, the book was very Obsidian Butterfly, good bordering on great, but not one of the best of the series. For new readers, many of the relationships and some of her powers were explained or touched on so it was easy to catch up, though many may have been confused about  Anita being called Necromancer when no other hint of that ability was shown. And whatever happened to raising the dead? Or the animators of Animators Inc? Larry, anyone? For old readers it was a nice refresher.  The story could have used more action, but what action there is was really good. The plot had a good premise, though the ending ruined it a bit. Hit List by no means redeems the series, but brings back a little of that old Anita-world that many of us are fond of, which makes me more than hopeful for the next book.
